Abstract:
Karakter warna menunjukkan seluruh set persilangan menghasilkan warna coklat muda.

Dansk Universitetspædagogisk Tidsskrift 8, no. 15 (September 1, 2013): 17–35. http://dx.doi.org/10.7146/dut.v8i15.8810.

Abstract:
In an alignment perspective, PhD thesis examination reports contain valuable information and implications for PhD thesis writing and supervision. The basis of this article is an analysis of a total of 41 PhD examination reports from one humanities department, identifying criteria for positive and negative evaluative comments. The method of analysis is adapted from methods of examination report analysis developed primarily by the Australian SORTI group of examination report researchers. Our analysis shows a pattern: While analysis and empirical work are positively evaluated with few critical comments from examiners, negative comments centre on the PhD candidates’ depiction of ”The big picture” of their research: literature review and critical appraisal and discussion where results are placed, positioned and contextualised within the field. We conclude with pedagogical recommendations for PhD-students, supervisors and –educators, examiners and graduate schools.

Abstract:
In order to know the life expectations related to a doctoral degree, this study examined the factors that change PhD holders’ life expectations from Northeast Normal University after completion of a PhD degree. The data was collected using interviews with a sample size of three PhD holders from Northeast Normal University which is located in Northern part of China. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to narrate their life experiences concerning how the doctoral degree changed their expectations. The purpose of this qualitative study was to gauge to extent PhD holders personal satisfaction, research skills, and expertise in their field. Additionally, opportunity, networking and recognition, and intellectual growth are the factors that were found to be involved in life expectations related to the doctoral degree. Also, this study describes the career and academic goals of PhD holders and their beliefs were the main factors that change the individual life expectations related to a doctoral degree. Drawing on the PhD holder’s life expectations related to PhD degree, this study suggests that pursuing a PhD degree can be a transformative experience that reshapes Ph.D. holders' life expectations, including their personal experiences, goals, beliefs, and values.

Abstract:
The highest formal academic qualification is the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Currently, in US alone, 1.77% of its population has doctorates or its equivalent degree holders. It differs in every country depending on the quality of education system that it has. As it is the highest recognition for academic performance, a lot have dreamt to hold the revered scroll. However, quite a number have failed trying. There are a lot of descriptions for the acronym PhD; the most frightening one, Permanent Head Damage. Upon reflection, one description fits well. The formula of success for obtaining PhD consists of the elements known as strategical Plan (P), the rich health (H) and the awesome determination (D). This paper is elaborating these three elements and more, required for a person who is attempting to acquire the degree based on a review of literature and my personal experiences. Hopefully, it will be able to help those who are still fighting their way through their journey.

Abstract:
Findings are reported for a development program for PhD students that took place in 2012/2013 at four Danish universities. The focus of the program was doctoral students’ work and career development. To date PhD students’ work environments have not been documented in detail, however, analysis of data collected during the program revealed four areas of concern to doctoral students: Challenges relating to work-life balance, uncertainty over identity relating to status as student and employee, risks associated with the work and uncertainty over career paths. The problems are primarily rooted in collegiate, managerial and organizational issues. In order to identify areas for improvement in the PhD students’ learning process, it is proposed that a situated learning perspective on the PhD programme be adopted.

Riddell, Richard Rodford. "PhD by publication." Thesis, Bath Spa University, 2012. http://researchspace.bathspa.ac.uk/1578/.

Full text
Abstract:
This submission provides a commentary on thirteen of Richard Riddell's publications between 1999 and 2010. It explains the professional and policy contexts from the early 1990s onwards, when the author was a senior Local Authority officer, which gave rise to the thinking behind the first phase of his publications. These included the development of a bespoke school improvement process, deeply rooted in the context of the communities served by a school, and involving the development of an urban pedagogy and curricula. The centre piece of this phase was Schools for Our Cities (Riddell, 2003b). Attention then moved for phase 2 of the publications towards the social processes outside school that advantage middle class children within it. Research for this phase identified a managed model of social reproduction being operated by middle class families with children at independent schools, and an independent school/prestigious university nexus. Policy interventions of the 2000s might have begun to create analogous kinds of social processes for working class children, but they are no longer in place. The central piece for phase 2 was Aspiration, Identity and Self-Belief (Riddell, 2010).

Abstract:
The theme of the works in this portfolio is the creation of an original and distinctive personal language through the use of traditional methods of composition and means of performance. The works have therefore had to rely on their musical argument alone. There is a common strand running through the three works, which is the use of the organ as an essential part of the ensemble. This instrument is used in a variety of guises across the works, including as a largely accompanimental force, as part of an ensemble, and as a 'sound source'. The works show a variety of approaches to structure, including pure musical structure along traditional lines, dramatic structure in accordance with textural considerations, and a more rhapsodic approach to structure in which the piece must achieve its argument through use of the material and the strength of each musical moment. The works are as follows: Trio for Clarinet, Bassoon and Organ - a large-scale suite in three movements; Welcome All Wonders - A Christmas Cantata - a 78-minute work scored for Choir, Trumpet, and Organ; The Phoenix - a rhapsodic work for violin and organ, which features a much freer approach to ensemble, necessitated by considerations of instrumental placing. Within the parameters of conventional instrumental use, I have explored issues of harmony, rhythm, form, and layering, and worked on aspects of drama and musical narrative. Contents: v.1. Composition portfolio (Trio for bassoon, clarinet and organ, Welcome all wonders : a Christmas cantata, The pheonix) -- v.2. composition commentary.

The thesis explores the complex relationship between modern audio technologies and the art of popular music through close scrutiny specific artefacts, a largely neglected area of musicological research. The detailed analyses presented here reveal the ways in which particular analogue and digital audio technologies are used, and how these have tended to shape and inform the musical and sonic characteristics of popular music recordings and related artefacts.
