Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractDeveloping algorithms for distributed systems is an error-prone task. Formal models like Petri nets with transits and Petri games can prevent errors when developing such algorithms. Petri nets with transits allow us to follow the data flow between components in a distributed system. They can be model checked against specifications in LTL on both the local data flow and the global behavior. Petri games allow the synthesis of local controllers for distributed systems from safety specifications. Modeling problems in these formalisms requires defining extended Petri nets which can be cumbersome when performed textually. In this paper, we present a web interface (The web interface is deployed at http://adam.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de.) that allows an intuitive, visual definition of Petri nets with transits and Petri games. The corresponding model checking and synthesis problems are solved directly on a server. In the interface, implementations, counterexamples, and all intermediate steps can be analyzed and simulated. Stepwise simulations and interactive state space generation support the user in detecting modeling errors.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents numerical simulations of slug flow in multiphase pipeline systems using a novel simulation tool PeTra. The slug tracking scheme in PeTra is described. A major feature in PeTra is a moving grid together with a fully integrated front tracking scheme. The slug tracking model enables tracking of slug fronts with limited numerical diffusion. PeTra has been implemented in C++ using object-oriented methods resulting in a flexible and dynamic code. The numerical simulations are compared with experimental data and field data.

Abstract:
A new approach to Vulnerability, Uncertainty and Probability (VUP) quantification procedure using Stochastic Petri Nets within a network of interacting satellites is presented. A Stochastic Petri Net based model is developed to quantify VUP in a network of interacting satellites. Three indicators are proposed to determine the VUP definitions in interacting network of satellites. The proposed VUP quantification scheme addresses a methodology which employs a Stochastic Petri Net for quantitative analysis of the behavior of the network. With the random variables associated with the Petri Net transitions, the dynamic behavior of the cooperating satellites in a SPN model can be mapped onto a time-continuous Markov chain with discrete state space. After generating a Markov Stochastic Petri Net model, the probability of a given condition in the network at a specified time can be computed and quantified as well as the vulnerability and uncertainty of the system using the identified indicators.

Abstract:
Abstract The integrated model of an enterprise can be built by making use of the CIMOSA modeling framework and modeling language. The behaviour analysis of the CIMOSA enterprise model can be made by the sets of procedural rules. In order to make further performance analysis of the CIMOSA enterprise model, this paper presents a systematic approach to transform the CIMOSA enterprise model into a equivalent stochastic Petri net model. The systematic approach is a hybrid Petri nets synthesis technology which integrates the “bottom-up” and “top-down” modeling approaches. The resulting Petri net obtained from this approach preserve the same qualitative properties of its original Petri net.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract A method for robustness optimization of flexible manufacturing systems is presented which undergoes forecasted product plan variations. A configuration of an FMS is modeled by a colored Petri net and the associated transition firing sequence. The robustness optimization of the colored Petri net model is formulated as an multi-objective optimization problem which minimizes production costs under multiple production plans, and reconfiguration cost due to production plan changes. As a first attempt, machines with limited flexibility are considered, and a genetic algorithm, coupled with a simple FIFO dispatching rule, is used to simultaneously find an semi-optimal resource allocation and event-driven schedule of a colored Petri net. The resulting Petri nets are then compared with the Petri nets optimized for a particular production plan in order to address the effectiveness of the robustness optimization for simultaneous production of products with different similarities. The simulation results suggest that the robustness optimization should be considered when the products are moderately different in their manufacturing processes.

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper, FMS scheduling problems are modeled by timed Petri nets. The timed Petri nets can model the important characteristics of FMSs such as routing flexibility, shared resources, precedence relationships among operations, concurrency, synchronization and lot sizes. So the Petri net model of an FMS scheduling problem which reflects the given constraints would limit the search within the feasible schedule space. By making use of a heuristic scheduling algorithm which satisfies the lower bound condition of the algorithm A*, the search space can be further reduced and an optimal path can be found. This new scheduling approach which combines Petri net modeling with heuristic search can effectively handle with the structural complexity and computational complexity of FMS scheduling problems.

Machine Structure configuration approach is used to find the machine configuration required for the machining operations of any given part. This paper presents a Petri-net model for the approach. This model not only simplifies the approach, the Petri-net model of the given part remains simplified even if the number of machining features is high. A case study is taken as an example, the model is applied on it and the results are then compared with the available data. Conclusions are drawn after the application of both the conventional and the Petri-net model on the part. After that the applicability of the Petri-net model of machine structure configuration approach on different part families is discussed. In the end the suggestions for future trend are presented.

Abstract In this paper a generic dynamic model for process planning is presented, based on Petri net technology. The proposed Petri net model 1) represents manufacturing knowledge of the type of precedence relations constraints 2) represents dynamically the process planning procedure itself, and 3) encapsulates all possible process planning solutions (process plans). Furthermore, process planning simulation can be performed directly on the Petri net and reachability analysis of the model gives the complete set of solutions (process plans). Then, optimum solutions can be found by using a method based on heuristics.

Abstract:
Abstract Due to skyrocketing fuel price and demand, engine manufacturers and researchers have been thriving to find alternative sources of fuel for internal combustion engines. Biodiesel and vegetable-based fuels are prospective substitutes for petro-diesel fuel for compressions ignition (CI) or diesel engines, and favourable over petro-diesel fuel in terms of sustainability and environmental friendliness. It is found from the literatures that higher viscous fuels (HVFs) and biodiesel fuels have substandard engine performance and emissions especially in the case of brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), torque and NOx emissions compared to those of the engines using petro-diesel. This is mainly due to their higher viscosity and density as well as lower volatility and calorific value and thus, they are termed as higher viscous fuels. Furthermore, the higher viscosity and density of HVFs retard the combustion efficiency since HVFs are less prone to evaporate, diffuse and mix properly with the in-cylinder air. Based on these findings, researchers have put effort into improving the performance of CI engines running with HVFs. Generally, three techniques are very popular by the researchers, namely, blending the HVFs with petro-diesel (known as fuel blend), preheating the HVFs, and altering the injection strategy from the original engine-settings for petro-diesel operation. In this paper, a comprehensive review is presented on these techniques to improve the performance of CI engines run on HVFs.

Abstract:
Abstract The problem under consideration is the modeling of manufacturing resources like machine tools, setups and tools which affect the cost and batch delivery time estimation of machined parts. The proposed resource models are built upon Petri net models for process planning and scheduling with three methods: (i) an implicit modeling method where resources are modeled as a data structure which acts on a specific Process Planning Petri net (PP-net), (ii) a first explicit modeling method where resources, are modeled as separated Petri nets whose places are connected to PP-net transitions with adequate arcs and form a Process Planning Cost System (PPC-system) and (iii) a second explicit modeling method where a two-level Petri net model is proposed which allows the modular modeling of process plans and resources. In the later case, integration is achieved through an synchronization mechanism. The first two methods are used for the cost estimation of process plans of unique parts while the third one is used for delivery time and cost estimation of a batch of machined parts.

The purpose of the publication is to trace the path of Petro Volyniak from a writer to a literary critic, journalist and publisher. This trend is reproduced in chronological order. Peter Volyniak as a writer is informed in the article «Literary Evening of P. Volyniak» (author – M. Ch-ka). O. Satsyuk’s literary-critical article is devoted to the coverage of ideological and artistic aspects of Petro Volyniak’s collection «The Earth Calls» (Salzburg, 1947). Petro Volyniak as a literary critic is presented in an article devoted to a collection of literary tales by A. Kolomiyets (Salzburg, 1946), which was published by «New Days». Petro Volyniak as a journalist presents the essay «This is our song…». With the help of content analysis it was observed that the text is divided into two parts: the first contains the author’s reflections on the Ukrainian song, its role in the life of the Ukrainian people; in the second, main, Peter Okopny’s activity abroad is presented. The publisher Petro Volyniak in 1947 in a separate publication of the February issue of the weekly summarizes the third year of activity, providing statistics on the publication of periodicals, books, postcards, calendars, various small format materials. The analyzed material demonstrated the experience of combining creative work and commercial activity.

Abstract:
The National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA) established the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), which requires federal agencies to address their cultural resources, defined as any prehistoric or historic district, site, building, structure, or object. NHPA section 110 requires federal agencies to inventory and evaluate their cultural resources. Section 106 requires them to determine the effect of federal undertakings on properties deemed eligible or potentially eligible for the NRHP. Camp Perry Joint Training Center (Camp Perry) is located near Port Clinton, Ohio, and serves as an Ohio Army National Guard (OHARNG) training site. It served as an induction center during federal draft periods and as a prisoner of war camp during World War II. Previous work established boundaries for an historic district and recommended the district eligible for the NRHP. This project inventoried and evaluated Camp Perry’s historic cultural landscape and outlined approaches and recommendations for treatment by Camp Perry cultural resources management. Based on the landscape evaluation, recommendations of a historic district boundary change were made based on the small number of contributing resources to aid future Section 106 processes and/or development of a programmatic agreement in consultation with the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).
