Full textIn this work, we give a general framework of Riemannian surfaces that can degenerate on metric graphs and that we call surfaces made from cylinders and connecting pieces. The latter depend on a parameter t that describes the degeneration. When t goes to 0, the waists of the cylinders go to 0 but their lengths stay fixed. We thus obtain the edges of the limiting graph. The connecting pieces are squeezed in all directions and degenerate on the vertices of the limiting graph. We then study the asymptotic behaviour of the spectrum of these surfaces when t varies from two different points of view, considering the spectrum either as a sequence of ordered eigenvalues or as a collection of analytic eigenbranches. In the case of ordered eigenvalues, we recover a rather classical statement, and prove that the spectrum converges to the spectrum of the limiting object. The study of the analytic eigenbranches is more original. We prove that any such eigenbranch converges and we give a characterisation of the possible limits. These results apply to translation surfaces on which there is a completely periodic direction

Full textThis study on the locomotion of C. Elegans aims at a better understanding of its nervous system and at giving birth to news ideas concerning the conception of new biometics models or objects. We first gave a description of the worm, of its physiology, and of its main modes of locomotion, that is to say the swimming - in liquid medium, and the crawling - on gel substract. When swimming, we analyzed how the dissymmetry pf the movement is necessary for the worm to move on when in viscous medium. Thanks to the analysis of the velocity of the local displacements and by supposing that the forces are viscous, we balanced the forces. We thus demonstrated that transversal and longitudinal friction coefficients could be compared to the coefficients obtained theoretically from an oblong ellipsoïd. When crawling, we were able to observe a diminution of the amplitude from the head to the tail. We first studied the worm-substract interaction theorically - lubrification hypothesis, but the friction coefficients predicted were in contradiction with experimental results. This difference, according to our experiments, was due to static friction. We also measured the rigidity of the worm. By confining the worm vertically in liquid medium, we observed a continuous transition from swimming to — crawling. We proved that the movement of the tail, in comparison with the movement of the head, was more and more delayed as the confinement increased. In these conditions, the global movement of the worm got slower. On substract, we were able to constrain the amplitude thanks to a horizontal confinement; we observed that wavelength decreased with amplitude

Full textAquatic ecosystems constitute the chemicals’ final destination. Among the xenobiotics, endocrine disruptors (ED) are compounds of major concern. In this context, ED pesticides effects were investigated in the widespread copepod Eurytemora Affinis using ecotoxicogenomics technics. In response to PE pesticides, focus was made on reproduction, growth and development. In order to evaluate the endocrine activity, in vitro tests (YES/YAS/anti-YES/anti-YAS and S2 EcR) were used to screen the compounds alone and in mixtures. These results were discussed to evaluate the “cut off criterion” used in European assessment. This work presents for the first time, transcriptomes and proteomes of E. affinis after PXF and CLD –alone and in binary mixture- exposure. A sex dependent effect was observed by the two “omics” approaches. Male copepods were more impacted by contaminants than female copepods. Genes and proteins (e.g. chitin deacetylase, kelch protein) were identified as candidates for the development of ED molecular biomarkers. In vitro tests highlighted binding of pesticides with both vertebrate and invertebrate receptors. However, a toxicity for the highest concentrations tested and some limits for the interpretation of mixtures results were limiting in YES/YAS/anti-YES/anti-YAS assays. The last observation represents particularly a major concern for interpretation of the ED mode of action of environmental matrix. S2 EcR highlighted some complementary results about the mode of action of chemicals alone and in binary mixtures. These results accentuate the need to combine vertebrate specific test and invertebrate specific test in ED risk assessment
