Full textPatients with different diseases may faint or lose consciousness and require emergency assistance. They cannot know in advance that they will need help. Today, there are security alarms but communication and technology of these alarms have very limited functions. This report describes a final year project where we developed a prototype of a product, GSM- personal alarm. The prototype continuously monitors the patient's pulse and if the pulse is greater than or less than the threshold values specified by the doctor, the alarm system will send an SMS message to an alarm help receiver. The system works equally well at home or outdoors. It uses the GSM network and thus increases the communication range.

It is about application of so-called recognition method to the foreign legal situations that haven’t been enacted in court. The purpose is to conceptualise this new method and to determine its scope and its modalities. Given the particularity of the task, the study necessarily bears on several pivotal topics of private international law but also of European law, general private law and jurisprudence

Full textObesity has become the most significant noninfectious health risk in the United States, and the major causes of death and disability are shifting to chronic, non-communicable health conditions that are largely attributable to physical inactivity, overweight and obesity, and other diet-related factors. Among children and adolescents, the overweight/obesity rate is approaching 32%, with 17.9% of adolescents becoming obese. While the obesity rate has doubled in all age groups in the United States, it has tripled among young adults aged 18 to 28 years, and 70% of adolescents who are at a healthy weight will become overweight or obese as adults. At particular risk for rapid weight gain are college freshmen; the rate of weight gain in the first semester of college is twice that of same-age peers, and 77% of all college freshmen gain weight. The purpose of this descriptive study was to explore the personal, interpersonal, and situational factors that influenced weight change in freshmen. Seventy-six college freshman completed measures of demographics, height and weight, physical activity, sedentary behavior, nutritional intake, beverage and snack intake, alcohol consumption, stress management, interpersonal relations, spiritual growth, and health responsibility at baseline and 15 weeks later during their first semester of college. Participants gained a mean of 2.3 pounds, with 43% gaining clinically significant weight (≥ 3.5 pounds); 33% of the participants gained over five pounds. Two variables predicted 12% of this weight gain: a low level of health responsibility and having an underweight/normal BMI upon entrance to college. Identification of participants in the underweight/normal BMI category as the group at most risk for significant weight gain was an unexpected finding that merits further exploration. In addition, findings indicate that strategies are needed to create stronger support systems, to increase the level of health responsibility, and to encourage college freshmen to regularly perform behaviors to attain, or maintain, a healthy weight throughout the first year of college.
Loué, Christophe. "Analyse cognitive de situations professionnelles." Nancy 2, 2000. http://www.theses.fr/2000NAN21029.
Full textThis research is based on the acknowledgement of the profound transformations in production and organization within enterprises. Economical globalisation and exchange liberalization have, indeed, induced constant requirements in flexibility and adaptability. Massive use of New Information and Communication Technologies (N. T. I. C. ) constitute one of the most convincing effects of it. Before these postulates, another one emerges : low qualified labour force seem to be the less prepared to face these evolutions. Stakes in training appear to be imperative. In this perspective, we propose a cognitive analytical method of the task, where concepts are inspired by methodological principles of the analysis of the task in cognitive ergonomics, by Jean Piaget's operating theory of intelligence as well as Pierre Higelé's work in this field. This methodology of analysis is centred : - on one hand, on the formalization of the outlines of task stipulated in terms of operations and intellectual level required, - on the other hand, on the precise location of the cognitive progress of the operator in working situation. Taking into account the principle of measure of distances between the ordered and the real task, we propose - every time it is justified - a training centred on the reduction of these distances. In this field, we were inspired by works in cognitive remediation, and particulary on the ARL (Work-groups of Logical Reasoning)

Full textThis survey presents four situations of change in french hospitals and health clinics'professionnal techniques. These situations take place in inhouse training and developement interventions aimed at change, considering the money invested in them. Two method are used to identify a communicative structure, as well as to build a communicative analysis based on the four situations : - the method of phenomeno-structural analysis, inspired by levis strauss's structural analysis and phenomenology by husserl, modeled by alex mucchielli. Thanks to this method, a communication structure, result of the play played by the actors, has been brought out from situations of change. The logice behind the play is to make the change impossible. - the method of communicative analysis we have created using the six communicative process that take place in situation of communication,as identified by alex mucchielli. This method has helped us understand the different communicative phenomena which make change impossible. This survey has demonstrated that communicative analysis allows to model situations and, therefore, to compare their architecture. The analysis refines the comprehension of these phenomena and their possible treatment. We have come to the conclusion that current training and development techniques nourish the play of impossible change implicitly played by the actors. We suggest new training and development tehniques that take into account the elements of the situation and use the information and communication science concepts and tools render change possible with the actors

Full textCould we consider that solutions to upgrade the skills of employees lacking 3RS'; (Reading, wRiting, aRithmetics) be considered as a source of competitive advantage for the companies and organizations? What are the conditions for economic and social performance of those preventive actions? This dissertation proposes to address this issue. Based on the hypothesis that performance of enterprises is hindered by poor knowledge management within the companies and that illeteracy tends to create many dysfunctions, the first part presents an analysis of basic skills in literacy. It draws the attention on psychological, sociological and managerial factors of the illeteracy phenomenon while enhancing the strategies of the actors within organization to conceal the probem, as if it were a taboo. This thesis strives to analyse the dysfunctions costs through five intervention-research processes. The analysis of the flaws of traditional forms of training methods, the hidden costs of non-action to cope with this phenomenon or of making redundant these low skilled workers brings evidence of the possible performance of preventive actions. Based on those results as well as in five other case studies of enterprises which have undertaken successful actions, this thesis proposes, in a second part, an internal and external intervention cooperation to foster the sustainability of the actions aimed at enhancing the skills of illeterate employees. It deals of engineering, contents and organisation of retraining schemes in the companies and organizations in order to enhance the potential gains stemming from such actions. Our approach to fix illeteracy dysfunctions depends on the willingness of enterprises to learn how to cope with it, either alone or through cooperation with partners. This thesis proposes a course of action that consists of a remedy to illeteracy, integrating the efforts of individual actors, collective actors and actors in the environment of companies and organizations

Full textOur research focuses on the confrontation and the evolution of individual moral judgements in the business context. We attempt to theorize ethics in relation to what managers actually do in their daily activities. We develop a conceptualization of ethical judgment as negotiated order (Strauss et al. , 1963). In the light of this perspective, ethical judgment is considered as a negotiation process over moral choices involving various actors who have competing definitions of the situations in which they are engaged. The legitimatization tactics used by the individuals in order to justify their ethical judgment are analysed through the typology developed by Boltanski and Thevenot (1991). Our empirical work is based on a three-year participant observation in a French software company. This study enables us to confirm our conceptualization of ethics as negotiated order. Our longitudinal analysis also highlights the instrumentalization of ethics by employees in order to serve their personal interests

Full textIn line with a “cross-cultural” research work on ageing in a migratory context, this thesis is a primary investigation on the role that the following play: culture, the migratory process (through induced identity readjustments), and the relationship between the subject and ageing. While we agree with Freud (1915) that we cannot represent our own death in our subconscious, it appears that only culture can enable the subject to give meaning to live and face death by accepting his/her mortal status (Govindama, 2000, 2006). As for the migrant subject, while there is refusal of death in his/her host society, there rather seems to be death celebration in his/her home society. We are all the more interested in the migrant subject’s case because of his/her double cultural identity, which implies that he/she has to refer to a cultural, symbolic environment to be determined. Following a clarification of the concept of ageing, some illustration from our field research work at the Rouen-based Foyers SONACOTRA will enable us to access the link between psyche and culture that is being developed among our ageing subjects

Full textThis research is about the professional gestures of tutors accompanying newly appointed teachers. In the interview that follows the observation of a class, which we based our study on, the tutor’s activity is analysed through the lens of professional gestures, mobilised in their operating and symbolic dimensions, and enriched by the notion of professional amplitude. This last one supposes that the professional gesture does not have an axiological dimension in itself, but that it strongly depends on the accompanying relation built between the two partners of the interview. In the continuity of works concerning professional gestures, Jorro (1998, 2002, 2006, 2011), Alin (2006, 2010) and Bucheton (2008, 2009), this thesis studies the professional gestures of the tutor during the interview post class observation and makes possible a reading of a situated professional acting. The professional gesture, seen as a body movement towards the other, is redefined as a verbal and/or corporeal interaction, intended and conscientised by the tutor, of variable amplitude. The results allow us to highlight seven professional gestures from the tutors

Full textThis is a qualitative interview study researching the experience engine room personnel have with using headset communication in their work onboard. A total of six crewmembers were interviewed about their experiences and how headset communication had affected their ability to perform their work, personal safety and time efficiency. The results showed that communication had improved with the use of headsets and that speech communication where no longer limited by high noise levels which in turn leads to less strain on the voice. The interviewed crew members testified that the improved communication facilitated their work and enhanced the personal safety by decreasing the risk for misunderstandings and increasing their situational awareness. Increased ergonomics in situations with difficult working postures and limited space in comparison with hand held radios were also observed as an advantage with headset communication. Time efficiency was perceived to improve since the availability of other crewmembers on the radio increased and decreased the need for moving to another area to communicate which at the same time lead to faster response times. Increased availability of crewmembers on the radio could also shorten the time before an accident in the engine room is detected since a failure to answer a radio call would be seen as irregular behavior.

Full textResearch and development on vehicle safety has lately started to direct its focus towards how to actively support the driver and make it easier for her to drive safely through letting Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have effect on how the driver interacts with the vehicle and the surrounding traffic. This requires research on both how the driver and vehicle perform in different situations, in terms of psychology, cognition and individual differences. In addition, physical limitations and requirements of the driver and the vehicle must be taken into account. Therefore scenarios for evaluation of these systems are required. In the area of user-centered design a rather new method, Personas, is being adopted. This thesis tries to explore if the Persona method is a viable tool for creating scenarios for such evaluations. Experiences after completing this work imply that personas indeed is a viable way to include aspects and raise issues concerning individual variability and situational context in ADAS scenarios.

Full textIn general, having a job is a satisfactory factor for the majority of persons. However, most of the employees are stress-prone, which has an important effect both on individuals and on structures. Those structures often do not possess relevant standards to thoroughly evaluate this phenomenon. The lack of precise knowledge about stress at work and its origins, especially the two dimensions of personal status and professional status in France, has led us to conduct a thorough diagnosis for several years on several plants of a large industrial company. The chosen company is emblematic of the industrial labour organization in France. The mapping of stress at work, with the identification of mainly exposed populations, should be applicable to other organizations to quickly set an anti-stress action plan, without first making a detailed inventory; for the greatest benefit of employees and the work environment and production. The different stakeholders interested in deploying a policy against stress, the employees, the hierarchy, Human Resources Departments, occupational psychologists, occupational doctors have been solicited as part of this research. After a general diagnosis, facing the large number of possible research topics and because of the lack of studies on the relationship between staff’s personal status and "professional situation" with the other factors already integrated within conventional models about stress at work, we focused on this issue by defining a theoretical model to be validated experimentally through questionnaires. In this research we explain how we found that among the factors related to stress at work, the category "professional situation" influenced this phenomenon more than the "personal status" category.Among the factors in the category "professional situation", the most important in decreasing order are: socio-professional category, English practice, and seniority. Among the factors in the "personal status" category, the most important in decreasing order are: the level of education, gender and age. This finding is rather good news for companies because they will be able to reduce stress at work by acting on the "professional situation", knowing that they cannot interfere with the personal status of employees. This contribution should be supplemented by other researches to enhance the completeness of the diagnosis about stress at work and to conduct complete actions plans covering all topics

Full textIntroduction: War, weaponry and armour are constantly evolving. This results in variations in types of injuries occurring. Previous reviews show an incidence of head, face, and neck injuries (HFNI) during the 20th century ranging from 16% to 43% in war and war type situations but, anatomically, the head, face, and neck accounts for approximately 9% of the total body area. In recent years the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) in terrorist conflict has risen and this has been shown to give a rise in the prevalence of HFNI.Aim: To examine the proportion of HFNI in the total injury panorama of soldiers and civilians wounded in war type situations from 2000 to 2010. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted according to Goodman. Results: Ten articles concerning conflicts and attacks in Afghanistan, Israel, Iraq and London were included and presented an incidence of HFNI on 25% (mean, range 6.4-39.4%).The wide spread in results is caused of different anatomical exclusions and inclusions but also because of the difficulties in comparing different conflicts to each other. The real mean incidence is therefore, most likely, higher. Common and particular maxillofacial war injuries are also discussed. Conclusion: Explosive devices account for the bulk of injury mechanism. Facial lacerations are the most common HFNI and the majority of fractures occur in the lower third of the face. A rise in the use of IED will mostly likely cause an increase in the prevalence of HFNI in the future.
Silva, José Luis da. "Le rôle du droit dans la situation des victimes face à la responsabilité médicale." Paris 8, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003PA082241.
Full textVictims have long been the cast offs from the law; in fact law institutions have never really minded about their lot. The mere reading of Article 1382 of the French Civil Code highlights the fact that our legislative system is based only on the person responsible and does not take victims into consideration. This elision undoubtedly impairs the laws of responsibility in the medical field. This lack of consideration from the law may account for the altruism expressed by the magistrates faced with the precarious situation of the victims and that can de felt as well during the procedure (First part) as during the trial itself (Second part) and the process of compensation (Third part). Even if the study of the different compensatory phases clearly shows that the magistrates think carefully about the victims' viewpoint, the law nonetheless lacks of consideration for the victim whose situation stills bears the traces of instability and iniquity
