Abstract:
Objectives: There are increasing demands for personal assistance services which help the disabled to carry out their daily life. To use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) approaches more effectively in daily communication, it is essential to include the appropriate core and fringe vocabulary in the AAC system. Considering the fact that there are few studies in Korea which have reported fringe vocabulary compared to core vocabulary, this study is aimed to develop a noun list that can be used to promote interactive communication between the disabled and their assistants in each communication situation. Methods: A literature review was conducted to elicit frequently used nouns in each communication situation. Then, a survey was carried out to identify nouns with high word commonality across 105 personal assistants. Results: Sixty-three nouns with more than 50% of word commonality across personal assistants were identified from the 244 fringe vocabulary; consisting of 112 nouns in the area of going out, 29 in cleaning, 27 in personal hygiene, 26 in cooking, 20 in meal supporting, 20 in other service areas, and 10 in commuting. Conclusion: The identified nouns are expected to help people with complex communication needs to express their needs and wants more clearly and effectively using those nouns embedded in their AAC systems. The list of nouns can be used not only for people who receive personal assistance services, but also for people who rely on AAC systems to express their daily needs.

Abstract:
Mobile health (m-Health) scenarios and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies form an important direction for enhancing medical systems for Ambient Assisted Living (AAL). Yet current development meets with two challenges: 1) use of patient's health data with strong security guarantees in mobile network and resource-constrained assumptions and in emergency situations, 2) inclusion of personal data to the entire system for “smart” service construction and delivery. This paper presents a smart space based architectural model that adopts emerging IoT technologies to enable security of personal mobile data and their intelligent utilization in health services. To support the service intelligence, the authors employ the smart spaces approach with its prominent technologies adopted from IoT and Semantic Web. The intelligence and security solutions are considered symbiotic to present better user-experience, security level, and utility of a system.

Abstract:
The Covid 19 challenge, the increased aging population, and the modern way of living are increasing the need for health monitoring communications services. Healthcare monitoring is a very important research field of study. This is related in finding new, more efficient ways in health data communications with three main quality of service requirements: low delay, high security, high quality data transmission. Considering these requirements and recent developments in domestical health monitoring services, it is important not only the equipment used for health monitoring sensing but also the communication protocol used to access the data center. In this paper we develop a new communication protocol for ad-hoc wireless network created by the sensors used for personal health monitoring systems installed in patient wrists. This is a hierarchical protocol where the sensors communicate through a virtual infrastructure that helps to collect the data from the personal health monitoring equipments in an efficient way even in the areas with no wireless infrastructure. The communication scheme ensures a hierarchy of nodes that gets translated to hierarchy of costs as only a few nodes need to have a larger processing power resulting in a lower battery consumption for most of the patients. The neighbourhood area is divided into virtual cells where each cell is represented from one node center that holds the communication for all the surrounded nodes and forwards its information towards the next cell center found in the direction of the sink. As a result the information collected even in the fields without any wireless infrastructure might be carried towards the cells that are in a communication distance with the sink. The updated information data is forwarded toward the data centers to be analysed by the specialists. Taking in consideration that even in the urban areas the elderly population doesn’t have internet services, this ad-hoc communication protocol represents a good solution for health monitoring equipments. Moreover, the same communication protocol can be used for signaling life signs in war areas.

Abstract:
A personal mobility service (PMS) is developed to support personalized travel options for users in autonomous transportation systems (ATS), based on a macro-system state and micro-user behavior. However, this functionality necessitates processing and transmitting vast amounts of data, raising concerns about user privacy protection during data processing and transmission within the PMS. Furthermore, the PMS must be maintained and perform well, while preserving privacy. Therefore, we propose a novel federated PMS, denoted as a FPMS. Specifically, the FPMS can serve users’ personal mobility needs by facilitating the collaboration between the physical and information domains. Then, a common framework for FPMS architectures, which captures the features of ATSs, is proposed and discussed from both physical and logical perspectives, which include both the logical architecture and physical architecture; and we present the key algorithms for the FPMS, in conjunction with a artificial neural network (ANN). Additionally, in static estimation scenarios, the FPMS demonstrated a similar accuracy for three different models compared to the traditional PMS, while reducing the computing time by approximately 60% and communication resource consumption by approximately 85%.

Abstract:
A global phenomenon of population ageing and an increasing number of patients with chronic diseases place substantial additional pressure on healthcare systems. A possible solution for this problem is a new emerging sort of pervasive personal healthcare service that is focused on the patient and allows the patient to be actively involved in his or her own health care. In this paper, we propose the architecture of the pervasive personal healthcare service which is based on the existing technologies available to almost everyone. Along with the conventional request-response synchronous communication, the proposed system features asynchronous communication based on publish-subscribe-notify model. In order to perform asynchronous communication, a web application server is integrated with the Google Cloud Messaging service. The communication between mobile device and servers is carried out through the available Wi-Fi or mobile networks, whereas Bluetooth protocol is conventional for Body Sensor Networks consisting of wearable sensor devices. We also present a mobile application which has been developed with use-case driven approach for both patients and medical personnel. The introduced application has a form of a nonintrusive customized mobile social network. We explain usage scenarios that clarify the required functions and present conclusions based on the system test.

Abstract:
Many financial institutions interact with their customers via short message services (SMS), which is today one of the fastest and most powerful means of communicating information around the world. This information can sometimes be an access code such as the unique password (OTP) for two-factor authentication (2FA) or banking information and personal identities. All this data is confidential, and it is a major disadvantage to send them since an SMS service does not provide data encryption during network transmission and on mobile. Recently, OTPs via SMS have suffered from strong attacks that intercept messages. In order to avoid attacks and offer effective content security to 2FA credentials sent via SMS, the authors propose an SMS encryption mechanism using a post quantic cryptosystem quasi-cyclic MDPC and an electronic signature of the OTPs. Finally, this article performs an implementation and a security analysis of the proposal.

Abstract:
Parallel and distributed simulation is recognized as a viable method for the modeling of complex dynamic systems. The main benefits of using a parallel versus a sequential technique in solving these problems are decreasing execution time and distributing the memory used in the simulation over a number of processors.
Parallel simulation techniques have successfully been applied to the modeling of cellular communication services. They focus on defining efficient models for simulation, on the study of protocols or on the performance analysis of resource allocation algorithms. In this thesis, we continue the research in this domain by defining a model focusing on simulation accuracy. We will also test the limits on the size of the application model that can be simulated. Two channel allocation techniques are implemented. The first is based on fixed channel allocation and the second on a technique known as channel segregation. The latter technique requires that interference data be computed. For this purpose, we describe a brute force interference calculation algorithm. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

Abstract:
Today's and tomorrow's secret data exchange relies heavily on cryptography. Cryptographic applications offer a secure communication channel for safely transferring data. It provides individuals, groups, and organizations with greater privacy and access to communication and other information, as well as the opportunity to restore personal privacy. Nowadays, online users desire to create an account in order to get access to certain websites, such as online tutorials, online purchases, online resource access, hosting services, social networking sites, and so on. However, unless the service provider or authority person ensures that the registration and login processes are genuine, there is a potential that the account might be hacked by a third party using the ordinary user access method. With the growing usage of cloud emails and frequent reports of large-scale leakage occurrences, a security attribute known as forward secrecy becomes desired and necessary for both users and cloud service providers to improve the security of cloud email systems.

Abstract:
This report covers results of experiments conducted to obtain data on the fire and deflagration hazards from thermal runaway and its propagation through energy storage systems (ESS). The UL 9540A test standard provides a systematic evaluation of thermal runaway and propagation in energy storage system at cell, module, unit, and installation levels. The data from this testing may be used to design fire and explosion protection systems needed for safe siting and installation of ESS. In addition to temperature, pressure, and gas measurement instruments installed inside of the container, fire service portable gas monitors were placed at locations inside and outside the storage container during the experiments to assess their ability to detect products of thermal runaway and inform fire service size-up decisions. Review section 2.2.3 Fire Service Size-up Equipment to learn more. This research demonstrates a clear need for responding firefighters to have early access to data from instrumentation installed within an ESS, particularly gas measurement instrumentation, available through a monitoring panel. Additionally, it highlights the importance of communication between responding firefighters and personnel responsible for management of the ESS, who can aid in complete evaluation of system data to develop a more clear picture of system status and potential hazards.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the state of development of Ukrainian advertising in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Studying the work of Ukrainian advertising agencies during the war is a unique experience of Ukrainian specialists during the war. The article emphasizes that Ukrainian advertising agencies have become an example for global corporations with their resilience and courage. The study of the place of Ukrainian advertising agencies in the world system made it possible to state that the domestic industry is developing in step with the world one. This was facilitated by the fact that Ukrainians quickly adapt to modern technologies and catch global trends. In some areas of advertising, Ukrainian agencies are one step ahead of European and American ones. Communication with Ukrainian heads of advertising campaigns, marketers and target specialists, who were directly involved in the “rescue” of companies at the beginning of the war, made it possible to find out how the business development strategy changed, what tactical solutions they used at the beginning of the war, and how they optimized the work of the team. The results of the research give grounds for asserting that in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, many brands have developed new rules for content and communication in social networks. The content strategy of brands needs maximum adaptation to new realities. The traditional division of content into branded, selling, fan and interactive content is losing its relevance. This market niche is occupied by social, supportive and useful content. In particular, as an example of social brand content, we can name: the national position of an advertising agency, support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, assistance to consumers, new adapted services, HR information about agency support, assistance to temporarily displaced persons, volunteering. Ukrainian advertising agencies were able to quickly adapt to the conditions of the war, entered international markets, took care of their employees and continue their work. Keywords: advertising, agencies, Russian-Ukrainian war, social networks, work with clients, personnel problems.

Lindberg, Lars. Personalised Support and Services for Persons with Disabilities – mapping of Nordic models. Nordens välfärdscenter, November 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.52746/nqrb1733.

Full text
Abstract:
In what way and how can models for personalised support such as personal budgeting strengthen the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities? Personal budgeting refers to a sum of money that is granted to the individual on the basis of an assessment of the need for service and calculation of a budget for this purpose. The individual can buy the service he needs for his budget. Personal budgeting is in use in social and health care in several countries. In the Nordic region, personal assistance is the main example of such solutions, but other models have also been tried and adopted in social and health care, such as systems of freedom of choice and increased opportunities for users to choose a provider. The report presents a number of personalised systems for support for people with disabilities that have been implemented in the Nordic countries and their experiences. The mapping was carried out jointly by the Nordic Welfare Center and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). The report will be considered when forming a proposal for a future reform of support and services for people with disabilities in Finland.

van Unen, Izzy. Research Brief: Insider Mediators and Trust Building. Trust After Betrayal, April 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.59498/52693.

Full text
Abstract:
This research brief examines the crucial role of insider mediators, individuals with authoritative personal connections to violence-affected communities, in conflict resolution. They establish trust through pre-existing relationships and are perceived as impartial and trustworthy by conflicting parties. Insider mediators navigate complex social dynamics, identifying culturally appropriate solutions acceptable to all sides. By promoting communication and dialogue, they create safe spaces for discussions, reduce tensions, and foster understanding between conflicting parties. Their involvement in drafting peace agreements ensures proposals align with ground realities, enhancing their implementability and long-term sustainability. Moreover, insider mediators contribute to their viability by fostering ongoing communication and cooperation, identifying potential conflicts, and acting as early warning systems. Recognising and supporting the role of insider mediators is essential for inclusive and effective conflict resolution, promoting healing and reconciliation within conflict-affected societies.

Valverde, Alvaro. Information and communication technologies for improving investment readiness of small and medium agribusinesses. Commercial Agriculture for Smallholders and Agribusiness (CASA), 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.1079/20240191164.

Full text
Abstract:
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are increasingly seen as an enabler to improve and promote efficiencies in global food market systems, and the high penetration rate of mobile phones is playing a catalytic role in developing countries. Mobile-based agriculture-value-added services (agri-VAS) aim to mitigate the information, financial and market access gaps faced by smallholder farmers and agribusinesses in developing countries. Over the last two decades, the number and variety of agri-VAS has been continuously increasing, and their landscape has been evolving. However, many agri-VAS never reach financial sustainability or scale and are discontinued after a few years. Increasing efforts are being made to map the landscape of agri-VAS targeted at smallholder farmers across Africa and Asia. However, insufficient attention has been paid to exploring successful agri-VAS that have small and medium (SME) agribusinesses as their main clients and that source from smallholder farmers. Areas with potential for further study include the following: (a) agribusinesses operating in value chains that are digitized by others (e.g. mobile network operators); (b) agribusinesses that are developing and deploying agri-VAS in-house; (c) agribusinesses using services provided by third-party agri-VAS providers within their value chains; and (d) agribusinesses that develop partnerships with agri-VAS providers to co-develop solutions. This study aims to address the following question: What are the factors behind successful deployment of mobile technologies to improve agribusiness productivity and investment readiness? It aims to analyse agri-VAS that have SME agribusinesses as their main clients, as they are more likely to positively impact the investment readiness of SME agribusinesses than agri-VAS with smallholder farmers as their only clients, which are also the most evaluated type of agri-VAS. The study consists of a combination of secondary and primary research, resulting in: (a) a set of investment-policy and service-design recommendations, based on high-impact, sustainable agribusiness-focused VAS; (b) recommendations on how to improve the body of impact evidence; and (c) the identification of investment opportunities at the agribusiness and agri-VAS levels.

Abstract:
Objectives. To assess how to provide telehealth care by identifying characteristics of telehealth delivery, patient populations, settings, benefits and harms, and implementation strategies during the COVID-19 era. Data sources. PubMed®, CINAHL®, PsycINFO®, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched from March 2020 to May 2022. Additional studies were identified from reference lists and experts. Review methods. We included studies that reported characteristics of telehealth use; benefits and harms of telehealth; factors impacting the success of telehealth, including satisfaction/dissatisfaction and barriers/facilitators; and implementation outcomes. We conducted a mixed-methods review, synthesizing quantitative and qualitative studies. Two reviewers independently screened search results for eligibility, serially extracted data, and independently assessed risk of bias of included studies. Results. We included 764 studies; 310 studies were included in our syntheses. Patients using telehealth were more likely to be people who are young to middle-aged, female, White, of higher socioeconomic status, and living in urban settings. Visits for mental and behavioral health conditions were more frequent than visits for other conditions, and mental or behavioral care was also more likely to be delivered via telehealth than care for other conditions. Across a variety of conditions, telehealth produced similar clinical outcomes as compared with in-person care. Telehealth care is appropriate for some patients, but more information is necessary to determine the suitability of telehealth for specific patient populations; patients and providers felt that telehealth may be less suitable and less desirable for patients with complex clinical conditions; and some patients perceive telehealth as a barrier to improved health outcomes owing to the absence of a physical exam and challenges in developing rapport and communicating with their care team. There was a lack of evidence addressing implementation cost, penetration, and sustainability of telehealth, and about telehealth implementation at the health system level. Conclusions. Whereas telehealth use spiked after the beginning of the pandemic, the characteristics of patients using telehealth follow a pattern similar to that for other healthcare and digital health services. We found that the use of telehealth may be comparable to in-person care across different clinical and process outcomes. Telehealth implementation has addressed the needs of both patients and providers to some extent, even as clinical conditions, patient and provider characteristics, and type of assessment varied. Telehealth has provided a viable alternative mode of care delivery during the pandemic and holds promise for the future.
