Abstract:

The persona is an essential part of personality development that allows individuals to exhibit conventionally acceptable behaviors and to adapt them as necessary in social situations. The Jungian concept of the persona is underrepresented in depth psychological studies and so merits more development. This research aims to answer how the persona affects character development and individuation journeys through the narratives of Japanese anime. Also included was the exploration of the archetypal presence of Dionysus. Using a hermeneutic analysis of four anime series, both the protagonists and antagonists were explored at length. Additionally, pivotal fighting scenes were considered to demonstrate persona development or dissolution. Through the process of the research, I found that analysis of villains yielded more results in regard to the persona. Findings indicate that Dionysian myth is often apparent within anime, despite its cultural dissonance. A broader understanding of the persona could have an influence on the field of media studies as a way of exploring narrative within and outside a specific tradition. Findings also indicate that the depth psychology concept of the persona may also be more complex than initially thought; specifically, it may be a multilayered structure, rather than a singular one. Persona identification turns individual characters into a vessel for unconscious contents. Further analysis of persona identification can be a tool to help make inferences about the personal and collective unconscious. Abstract:
This practice-led PhD research is an in-depth exploration into the field of theatre directing. The thesis is presented in three components: an exegesis and a two-part original creative work. Conducted over three phases, the study investigated how a culturally displaced individual (a product of the Armenian diaspora) may find a sense of identity through theatre directing and address the internal struggles of belonging, acceptance and self that are often experienced by those who have confronted cultural unhoming. Embarking on a career in theatre directing, while exciting, can often be a daunting and experimental vocation. Renowned Australian director Gale Edwards (as cited in P. Ward, 1988) suggested that being a director can often be a very difficult job. It is lonely, isolating, you are attacked by critics, and you are responsible if anything goes wrong and forgotten when everything goes right. In contradiction to Edward’s thoughts, evidence shows that within the past decade there has been a growing interest in the vocation of theatre directing. I asked, in a competitive artistic profession that is rapidly developing, what attracts an individual to the authoritative role of the director and what are the underlying motivations of this attraction? The first two stages of the study probed into my incentives as a Persian-Armenian-Australian actor turned director, and then queried the provocations of other theatre directors in a similar predicament. Initial interviews with the directors provided detailed accounts of how they embarked on the profession of theatre directing and insight into their motivations for doing so. The second phase of interviews investigated the director’s role more deeply, focusing primarily and acutely on the activity of directing. The purpose of this phase was to uncover whether, consciously or unconsciously, the activity of directing is a reflection of the individual’s sense of self. The final stage of the study is a creative project that is presented in two parts: a children’s book and an immersive Theatre in Education performance, titled The Special Team Elite. Utilising my creativity as a director and storyteller, these components explored my personal familiarities with cultural prejudice. The significance of this research lies in its innovative approach to the field of theatre directing that addresses cultural effects relating to individuals who have struggled with ethnic identity and displacement. By uncovering that there is more to the role of the director than the mere finality of a production, we can observe that the theatre is a promising setting for cultural exchanges in dialogue and for personal development. Theatre directing as the vehicle for these expansions and progressions of self can potentially address the internal struggles of identity often experienced by those who, in some form, have encountered cultural displacement.

In the ensuing dissertation I explore the extent to which a coherent praeceptor persona may be found in Horace's Ars Poetica. In the first chapter, 'Interpreting the Ars Poetica', I commence by reviewing and commenting upon previous critical attempts to explain Horace's poem. This I have divided into three main sections: 'Interpretations of Incoherence', 'Interpretations of Coherence', and 'Authorial Personae'. In the first of these I explore how some critics have denied the possibility of arriving at a coherent interpretation of the poem, which they regard as an unfinished hotchpotch effort. Most notably in this section I illustrate how the Ars Poetica fails to conform to the expected form of any one particular literary genre. In the second section, 'Interpretations of Coherence', I examine attempts, particularly Brink's in his Prolegomena, to structure the poem into certain fixed aesthetic units, and I then explore some of the difficulties of utilizing such rigorous and tendentious rubrics in a flexible and free-flowing poem. Lastly, in the third section, 'Authorial Personae', I review more modern attempts to explain Horace's poem through the identification of an authorial persona within the text. I proceed to justify my preference for this interpretative method by explaining it both with reference to modern literary theory and ancient poetic and dramatic practice. Lastly, in this chapter I briefly introduce the character of the authorial persona whom I shall endeavour to locate in the Ars Poetica – the teacher or praeceptor persona. In the second chapter, 'The Praeceptor Persona in Play', I commence by trying to build a characteristically Horatian concept of the teacher figure in the Ars Poetica, in my section, 'The Horatian Concept of the Praeceptor'. To this end I turn to the Satires of Horace, particularly, 1.1, 1.4, and 1.10, where I show that the Horatian model of a praeceptor can be explained through three conceptual criteria – 'instruction ', 'demonstration', and 'play'. Applying in turn each of these three conceptual criteria to the text of the Ars Poetica I illustrate how the very language of the authorial persona of the poem fulfils these criteria. In the third chapter, 'The Teacher of Satire 1.4 ', having established the presence of a Praeceptor persona in the Ars Poetica, I turn my attention to the Satires of Horace where the most extensive critical work has been undertaken with respect to the character of the authorial persona; particularly, since it has informed my concept of the Horatian praeceptor, I examine the teacher figure of Satire 1.4. In the first section, 'Interpretations of the Teacher Persona', I examine and criticise four scholarly attempts to explain the character of the teacher figure in the sermo. I identify the mixture of instruction and humour in the language as the key critical concern of these critics. In the final section, 'The Playful Satirist' I then apply my conceptual criterion of 'play' to the discourse of the teacher of 1.4, suggesting that his humour is not incompatible with instruction, but is actually a vital constituent of his role as a praeceptor. Finally, I give a brief 'Epilogue', summarising my analysis and, more importantly, emphasising the importance of identifying a characteristically Horatian model of a praeceptor. A detailed bibliography is then given of the source material consulted and references used through the dissertation.

Partant du constat de l’extraordinaire pérennité de Katharine Hepburn en tant que star hollywoodienne de premier plan, ce travail se propose d’élucider les raisons de ce succès durable en examinant la réception dont l’actrice a fait l’objet aux États-Unis tout au long de sa carrière. À la croisée des star studies et des études de réception, cette étude articule analyse de sa persona (rôles interprétés à l’écran et à la scène, jeu d’actrice et image médiatique) et des traces de sa réception auprès du public états-unien (critiques de professionnels, courriers de fans, sondages, données de box-office, etc.). Grâce à une approche diachronique, les évolutions de son image et de sa réception sont réinscrites dans un contexte socio-historique en perpétuelle évolution, auquel la star a tenté de s’adapter avec plus ou moins de succès suivant les périodes. L’examen des matériaux extra-filmiques participant à la construction de son image ou témoignant de sa réception permettent d’éclairer sous un nouveau jour les performances de Hepburn, analysées dans leur dimension socio-culturelle, esthétique et actorale. Une attention particulière est portée aux dimensions de genre, de classe et de génération de sa persona
Acknowledging the extraordinary longevity of Katharine Hepburn as a high-profile Hollywood star, this study seeks to shed light on the reasons behind this lasting success by examining her reception in the United States throughout her career. Combining both star studies and reception studies, this thesis articulates the analysis of her persona (her theater and film roles, her acting and media image) with evidence of her reception by the United States audience (critics, fan letters, polls, box-office figures, etc.). Using a diachronic approach, the evolutions of her image and its reception are incorporated within the framework of a socio-historical context in constant evolution, to which Hepburn tried to adapt with differing success depending on the period. The examination of the extra-filmic materials that contribute to her image or testify to her reception allow us to shed new light on Hepburn’s performances, analyzed from a socio-cultural, aesthetic and acting perspective. Special attention is given to the gender, class and age-related dimensions of her persona

Sociala medier, och särskilt Facebook, skiljer sig mycket från de äldre medierna (tidningar, radio, TV etc.) då det är plattformar där “vanliga människor”, utan journalistisk skolning, har möjlighet att uttrycka sig inför stora publiker. Det sker en form av paradigmskifte i vad som anses retoriskt effektivt och därmed hur vi ska presentera oss själva. Jag ser att rollen en administratör tar på en Facebooksida skiljer sig mycket från rollen en journalist på en tidning får när de skriver. De presenterar sig på skilda sätt och Facebookadministratören håller sig i regel mer personlig och nära sina läsare. Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur retoriska strategier för självpresentation, ethos och persona används idag inom Facebook som är ett relativt modernt medium. Det är en casestudy med den statliga myndigheten Livrustkammarens Facebooksida som exempel. Detta för att de skapat ett rykte kring sig om att vara roliga och effektiva i sin kommunikation.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the contribution made by the U.S. print media to the development of Nelson Mandela's public persona. The period studied is from 1985 to June, 1990. This thesis explores the following questions: 1) How did the public persona of Nelson Mandela evolve in the dominant U.S. print media; 2) How do these stories, in content and form, serve to establish Nelson Mandela as a public hero; 3) What cultural myths structure the news stories of Nelson Mandela that serve as the interpretative framework for public belief and action? Data for analysis were drawn from The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Each newspaper has a daily circulation of over 1 million. It was found that during the period studied, the development of Mandela's public persona occurred in two distinct phases: 1985 to mid-1989 and late 1989 to June, 1990. Analysis reveals that the media relied on narrative form to create an image of Mandela which invites the reader to accept, believe in, and support Mandela and his cause. During these phases the media established Nelson Mandela as a hero and celebrity for their reader audience via a number of rhetorical practices. These include: the introduction of Mandela as a legend and hero among black South Africans; the practice of surrounding Mandela with mythical reference; establishing Mandela as an individual who subscribes to many traditional American values and; the serial reporting of pseudo-events. Implications of the study and suggestions for further research in the areas of textual analysis, policy analysis, and audience analysis are discussed.

Abstract:
This project provides rhetorical and sonic exploration of listening practices, musical song, crowded subject formations and multimodal composition pedagogy. Conceptually drawing from rhetorical studies, sound studies, queer and women of color (Q/WOC) feminisms, cultural studies, affect studies, and composition pedagogies, the project maintains commitments to multiply situated knowledge production. The project's sonic inquiries and cross-disciplinary interests offer scholarly interventions primarily aimed at improving rhetoric and composition studies analytical and affective responsiveness to sonority. Secondarily, the project is aimed at increasing sound studies rhetorical responsivity and attention to personified performance techniques. The project’s first chapter argues that disciplinary distancing between rhetorical, compositional and sonic arts can be lessened through the temporal principle of kairos. This chapter also overviews key methodological concepts, offers working definitions of key terms, and glosses the project's chapter progression. The second chapter is a multi-faceted literature review that surveys the ways listening is rhetorically emplaced and affectively confined within classical and contemporary discussions of Aristotelian epideixis. This chapter notes the limits of commonly accepted and received feminist rhetorical "recovery" projects that frequently place listening in service to logos; highlights the ways listening can act as a generative method of performative "respond-ability" through certain positions; and resonantly attunes listening to two audio-visual materials: timbral tonality and rhythmic temporality. Chapters three and four analytically train listening practices on two specific genres of musical sound: protest song and EDM-pop musical productions. The third chapter analyzes singer-songwriter-activist Nina Simone’s early 1960's protest song "Mississippi Goddam" while the fourth chapter focuses on contemporary singer-songwriter Sia's EDM-pop productions for "Chandelier." Treated as case studies, these songs and artists exemplify body-subject impressionability, political disaffection from historically dominant forms of whitened, hetero-patriarchal, liberalized ideology, and the performative possibilities of crossing and crowding subject-hood through persona crafting. Following these case studies, the project concludes by offering conceptual im/possibilities and pedagogical materials for rhetorically teaching composition as a sonic art. The fifth and final chapter conceptually intervenes in rhetoric and composition's pedagogical tendencies toward elevating and espousing notions of the minimally affected, individual, authorial, agentive rhetor/writer by developing a series of activities designed to give instructional supports for scaffolding student learning and composing specific to vocalic sound and the sorts of affects engendered in listening.

Kita Morio has been one of the most successful humorists of Japan's postwar period, but his work has received little attention from scholars. The intent of this study is to provide an introduction to the humorous essays of Kita Morio. In particular, after the principles of the humor mechanism are established, the nature of the essays as a type of I-novel is examined. The focus is then turned to the authorial persona that Kita uses in his humorous essays, and an overview of that manufactured fictional character and the world he inhabits is created. Finally, five individual essays are examined in the context created by the preceding chapters, with particular attention given to the manner in which humor functions in the essays, as well as the manner in which the reader can find comfort in them. Translations of the five essays examined in the final chapter are provided in the Appendix.

Syftet med denna kandidatuppsats i retorik är att söka svar på hur svenska UNICEF kommunicerar på det sociala mediet Facebook för att påverka människor till att skänka pengar och skapa identifikation med mottagarna. Uppsatsen använder sig av en neo-aristotelisk analysmetod för att analysera hur mottagare påverkas att bidra till organisationens verksamhet. Appels föreslagna identifikationsmetodansats tillämpas för att analysera vilken publik som kan antas skapa identifikation med UNICEF Sverige. Analysen genomfördes på fyra slumpvist utvalda inlägg innehållande text och bild, vilka publicerades på  organisationens Facebook-sida i februari 2017. Resultaten visar att UNICEF Sverige uppmanar till handling eller kommunicerar med mottagarna, vilka påverkas främst genom att inläggen talar till förnuftet. Organisation vänder sig främst till en publik som värdesätter och prioriterar barns välmående. Detta visades vara den publik som främst kan tilltalas av inläggen och som främst kan skapa identifikation med UNICEF Sverige för att bidra ekonomiskt till organisationen.

Aim: The aim of the study is to analyze ten different columns written by Linda Skugge, in order to see what kind of rhetorical means she uses to get her message across. It is also to examine if, and to what extent, these means are of female nature, and to see what kind of persona Skugge uses in order to be trustworthy.

Method: Rhetorical analysis of ten columns written by Linda Skugge

Main results: The study has shown that Skugge´s rhetorical strategies differ from the ones recommended in theories about female speech. Skugge writes with a lot of character and emotionally based arguments, which, according to the theories, is more of a male way of speaking. Skugge gives an impression of being strong, competitive and offensive in her character, but also reveals that her role is consciously chosen in order to receive respect and to gain power.

Gibson is credited with hitting over 800 home runs in his career and was the first Negro League Baseball Player to be inducted into Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame without ever playing an inning of Major League Baseball.

Abstract:
Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka psykosocial arbetsmiljö inom vikariepoolen. Min avsikt var att undersöka hur anställda inom handikappomsorg upplever sin psykosociala arbetsmiljö . För att få en bättre förståelse betraktas problem från medarbetarnas perspektiv. I studien deltog 65 anställda inom vikariepoolen. Den empiriska undersökningen bygger på kvantitativ enkät undersökning som genomfördes på en vikariepool  i en av största kommuner i Stockholms län. Studierna utgår från den teoretiska bakgrunden samt tidigare forskning. Den teoretiska referensramen består av Maslows behovsteori, Herzbergs tvåfaktorsteori samt Deci & Ryans definition av inre och yttre motivation. Den tidigare forskningen behandlar vikariepoolens psykosociala arbetsmiljö bland förskolelärare och arbetsförhållanden bland personalen anställd genom uthyrningsföretag. I fortsättningen i mina studier stödjer jag mig med tidigare forskning som handlar om diskriminering och segmentering av vissa grupper på arbetsmarknaden.   Resultatet visar att majoriteten av vikariepoolenspersonal mår bra och trivs på arbetsplatsen. I analysen framkom att upplevelser av  psykosocial arbetsmiljö är varierade i samband med bakgrundsfaktorer sådana som till exempel anställnings form eller utbildning. Anställningsformen spelar en ledande roll när det gäller möjligheten till utveckling och påverkar i stort sätt känslor av trygghet och självförverkligande . Personer med en annan anställnings form än fastanställda känner mindre samhörighet med andra personalen  på arbetsplatsen. Orsaken till detta är att de ständigt är tvungna till miljöombyte. Det är en faktor som påverkar personalens engagemang och motivation till att utföra sina arbetsuppgifter och ibland kan  ha konsekvenser för arbetens kvalitet.

Known to be one of the most important resources, but also one of the most difficult ones to obtain, the workforce constitutes (consistence) the core of any organization. To find the right person for a particular position is not a trivial task. The recruitment of new staff members is important for any organization in general, but for treating organizations in particular. In order to provide the best service for its clients, it is, for a treating organization, vital to recruit nothing but highly qualified personnel. A well educated workforce can more easily stick to the treatment program and thus maintain treatment integrity. The purpose of this study is to examine how the recruitment process is executed by three treating organizations situated in the municipality of Örebro. Moreover the purpose is to evaluate the process in terms of strengths and weaknesses with the objective of pinpointing parts in the recruitment process in need of improvment. A theoretical framework capturing definitions and theories; treatment conditions, organization theory and the recruitment process. In order to answer the research questions, according to the study’s purpose, a qualitative method was adopted. The data sample ecompassed six personers: two managers and four group officers. The results in brief: The recruitment process of “Ungdoms- och familjeenheten” (the study’s delimit of treating organizations) in the municipality of Örebro has strengths as well as weaknesses. The major strength is the recruiter’s unanimous understanding for the importance of hiring a workforce holding a suitable education fulfilling all requirements. This thesis looks to two traditions in research into language teaching, teacher beliefs and classroom interaction, in order to investigate the question: Do teachers of ESOL have an identifiable and coherent system of beliefs about teaching and learning that may account for different approaches to teaching? A qualitative approach to research is taken, following a case study tradition, in order to carry out an in-depth study into the beliefs of six ESOL teachers. Five teachers participated in an initial pilot study and two subsequently became the main case studies for the research. The beliefs of a sixth teacher were then investigated to verify the findings. Semi-structured interviews and classroom observations were carried out with all the teachers. The teachers in the study were found to have personal belief systems that cohere around two orientations to teaching and learning - a person orientation and a process orientation. Moreover, the findings suggest that underlying the orientations is the perception that teachers have of their teacher identity, in terms of whether this is seen as a separate identity or as part of their personality. It is suggested that the two orientations may offer a powerful tool for teacher education as it is increasingly recognised that, in order to be effective, teacher educators must take into account the beliefs that teachers bring with them to training and development programmes. An initial investigations into the teachers’ classroom behaviour suggests that while their methodologies approach may be very similar there are fundamental differences in their interactions patterns and these differences may be a result of their own orientation. However, while teachers’ personal belief systems undoubtedly underlie their approach to teaching, further research is needed to establish the extent and the nature of the relationship between orientation and classroom interaction.

Sammanfattning Bakgrund: I Sverige finns 30 000 – 40 000 personer med psykosdiagnos. Dessa är en utsatt grupp avseende metabola riskfaktorer, dels utifrån konsekvenser av sjukdomen, men också med anledning av den antipsykotiska medicineringen. Därför rekommenderas screening för metabola riskfaktorer i förebyggande syfte och för tidig upptäckt.Syfte: Syftet med studien var att undersöka personals erfarenheter av hinder och framgångsfaktorer i screeningarbetet. Metod: Semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med 7 personal som arbetade med metabol screening på en psykiatrisk öppenvårdsmottagning. Data analyserades via kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat: Resultatet visade att personalens engagemang och intresse var mycket viktigt för att screening skulle prioriteras. Vårdrelationen beskrevs som betydelsefull för motivationsarbetet. Tankar framfördes om möjliga förbättringar såsom att koncentrera arbetet med screening till en bestämd tidsperiod varje år för ökat fokus. Att skapa en påminnelsefunktion i det befintliga datajournalsystemet var en annan tanke. Slutsats: Studien visade att ökad tidspress och låg efterfrågan av resultatet krävde högt engagemang och intresse hos personalen för genomförande av screening. Därmed står dagens privata organisationer inför utmaningen att rekrytera och behålla kompetent personal i organisationen. Även den offentliga sektorn blir alltmer kunskapsintensiv och således föddes vårt intresse för att göra en jämförelse mellan offentlig och privat sektor vad gäller styrning

för att behålla sina anställda. Studien utgår ifrån fem styrningsverktyg som är centrala för att behålla anställda i organisationen. Styrningsverktygen är: rekrytering, lön och

belöningssystem, arbetsutformning och arbetsinnehåll, karriär samt lojalitet.

Syfte: Vi ämnar beskriva hur ledningen samt de anställda i kunskapsintensiva organisationer använder samt uppfattar styrningsverktyg för att behålla kompetent personal i organisationen.

Vår avsikt är sedan att beskriva om, och i så fall vilka, skillnader som föreligger mellan offentliga och privata organisationer.

Genomförande: Studien är av kvalitativ art och 15 intervjuer har genomförts på två revisionsbyråer samt Skatteverket. Vi har även deltagit vid två informationsträffar, en för vardera sektor.

Resultat: Alla valda styrningsverktyg används inom båda sektorerna, men de används på olika sätt. Styrningsverktyget karriär är mer framträdande inom den privata sektorn och här är även de anställda mer intresserade av att göra karriär än inom den offentliga sektorn. Även lön används som styrningsverktyg på olika sätt. Här är det den offentliga sektorn som använder styrningsverktyget mer, då de är noga med att skapa en lönestruktur för de anställda. Ett annat sätt att styra för att behålla sina anställda är friheten. Här har det under studien framkommit att de anställda inom den offentliga sektorn har stor frihet vad gäller sitt arbete och de menar att de inte har några problem med att kombinera sitt arbete med privatliv. Även på revisionsbyråerna anser de att friheten är stor, men under årets första månader kan det vara svårt att kombinera sitt arbete med privatlivet då arbetsbelastningen är stor.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A persona is a definable literary technique that all authors necessarily use. This thesis tries to show how Catullus, with the use of six personae (amator acceptus, amator reiectus, hospes urbanus, poeta doctus, fabulator en sacerdos), persuades the reader of the emotional “authenticity” and the accessibility of his poems. This is done firstly by investigating the literary process of which a persona forms part. By comparing this process with the three phases of a conversation (thought, expression and utterance), it is possible to see how a persona can be “discovered”. The thought represents the historical author and his literary context. The expression represents the literary persona itself. The utterance represents the unemotional, “unloaded” elements of the text manifested as the collective function of characters, speakers and narrators. By identifying this process in Catullus’ poetry, the relevant personae are illuminated. Catullus, as a Latin poet who was familiar with “Roman performance poetry” and the ancient theatre mask, also understood this complex process. This thesis argues that Catullus used the persona – like a theatre mask – as a so-called “totem of perspective”. The careful use of persuasive techniques that provide the momentum, are analysed in some of his poems, keeping the function of this “totem of perspective” in mind. The result is that the poet succeeds in creating sophisticated, diverse and accessible personae, which readers through the ages readily accept as “authentic”.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: ’n Persona is ’n definieerbare literêre tegniek wat alle outeurs noodwendig gebruik. Idag har personer med lindrig utvecklingsstörning helt andra förutsättningar att utveckla förmågor hos sig själva än vad tidigare generationer har haft. Många personer med lindrig utvecklingsstörning klarar av mycket självständigt men på grund av deras funktionshinder är de i olika grad beroende av hjälp och stöd för att klara sig i sin vardag. Det innebär att de behöver professionellt stöd från personal, något som kan vara uppskattat men samtidigt upplevas vara jobbigt och kontrollerande.   Den här studien utgår från kvalitativ metod för att genom intervjuer med både brukare och personal studera hur de ser på stödet som ges på serviceboenden. Syftet med studien är således att få mer kunskap och ökad förståelse om hur personer med lindrig utvecklingsstörning ser på det stöd som personalen ger, samt hur personalen ser på sitt sätt att möta deras behov. Studien omfattar fyra brukarintervjuer och fem personalintervjuer.   Resultatet visar på positiva sidor av stödet, där personalen ser en glädje i att ge stöd till brukarna. Dock uttrycker både brukare och personal att de upplever att brist på tid påverkar det stöd som ges. Personalen uttrycker även att en viss kontroll från deras sida ibland behövs. Samtidigt upplever brukarna att de inte alltid får vara delaktiga och bestämma kring beslut som tas om dem och deras stöd. Studiens slutsatser visar att trots att personal vill att brukarna ska må och ha det så bra som möjligt, har de en syn som styrs av egna uppfattningar om hur ett vardagsliv ska se ut. De strukturella förutsättningarna som har framkommit i resultatet, bidrar även till att serviceboendena får institutionella drag och det påverkar stödet som brukarna får.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att analysera och undersöka hur motivationsarbetet ser ut inom företag

med anknytning till turismbranschen. Undersökningen har genomförts genom att studera relevanta

teorier inom området och sedan kopplat dem till en empirisk studie som har innefattat företag med

olika kopplingar till turismbranschen. Undersökningen är genomförd med en kvalitativ metod där

fokus har legat på att undersöka hur motivationsarbetet ser ut inom turismbranschen. Jag har varit i

kontakt med både anställda och chefer för att undersöka om motivationsarbetet ser ut som de

anställda önskar att det ska. Använder cheferna sig av de motivationsverktyg som de anställda

uppfattar som viktiga eller råder det skilda åsikter om verktygens betydelse. Undersökningen

behandlar också belöningar av monetär och icke-monetär karaktär som kan användas inom

turismbranschen och även hur de uppfattas av inblandade parter. I diskussions delen av uppsatsen

har jag sedan försökt att finna gemensamma och övergripande mönster som verkar finnas inom

turismbranschens motivationsarbete.

Resultatet av undersökningen visar på att motivationsarbetet är en viktig del av arbetet på

arbetsplatsen. Det råder dock skilda åsikter om vad det är som motiverar till arbete och även ger

glädje i samband med det. Anställda inom turismorganisationer framhåller främst

motivationsfaktorer av ekonomisk karaktär när de beskriver vad det är som motiverar dem och även

skulle få dem än mer motiverade. Cheferna försöker istället framhålla motivationsfaktorer som inte

sätts i förhållande till något ekonomiskt. De anser att faktorer som personlig utveckling, karriär och

intressanta arbetsuppgifter fungerar lika bra för att motivera personalen. Trots att det råde skilda

åsikter om vad det är som bäst motiverar till arbete är det ett viktigt område att arbeta med.

Branding of people is a relatively new concept within the branding area. This concept has grown rapidly and its importance is increasing. Our purpose of this thesis is to describe how a strong personal brand is developed and how it is sustained. We also want to highlight what factors that determine who will succeed to develop a strong personal brand and who will not and if the associations that other people have of you can be determined by the brand owner.

We have chosen to do a qualitative method by conducting interviews with five wellknown Swedish persons that we argue have or are beginning to develop strong personal brands within different areas.

The frame of reference consists of some concepts on traditional branding and models within the personal branding area. We found that the existing literature within personal branding was not sufficient to fulfil our purpose and therefore we have created a research model. The empirical findings are applied to the research model in the analysis.

We argue that the base to develop a strong personal brand is to truly know who you are and what you stand for. When you have a clear understanding about who you are, it is important to be consistent in the messages that you communicate in order to avoid confusion among other people. To have a strong personal brand, you also need to be well-known among more people than just your family and friends.

Personal branding is to a large extent about how other people perceive you and we argue that you can to some extent affect this image by being consistent and clear about who you are and what you stand for. People cannot see your thoughts, only your actions.

All people have a personal brand but we believe that the process to develop your personal brand depends on what goals you have with it and what you want to accomplish. All people do not gain anything by having a strong personal brand but we believe that all people can use some parts of the concept in order to know who you are and what you stand for.

Childbirth is a life changing experience for women, yet most women feel anxious with regard to this event. Research has shown that support from family or friends can help to reduce anxiety intrapartum, however, the standard procedure at most maternity centres in Indonesia is to not allow any person in the birthing room except midwives. This study investigated the impact of the presence of a support person on the anxiety of women giving birth in Surabaya, Indonesia. The originality of this study is in trying to understand the whole picture about support during labour and childbirth by listening to women, their support persons, and midwives who care for them during this episode. Most studies have looked at perceptions only, however, it is important to hear from caregivers as well in order to understand the phenomenon fully. The findings provide the basis of recommendations about for Indonesian maternity care, particularly those within the Javanese culture. A qualitative approach, specifically narrative inquiry, was used to answer the following research questions: How do childbearing women birthing in an Indonesian (Surabaya) maternity centre interpret the presence of a known, trusted support person and experience their impact on their birth-related anxiety? How do support persons experience their role during labour and childbirth? How do midwives experience the support during labour and childbirth? Twenty-one women, their support persons, and midwives who provide intrapartum care participated in this study. Data were collected from March to December 2016. The major finding of this study was that the key factor in whether women felt supported or not during labour and childbirth depended on how well prepared, their support persons was. Well prepared, emotionally support persons were perceived as trustworthy by the women. When supported by this type of support person, the participant women had positive experiences of labour and childbirth. In contrast, unengaged support persons who were perceived as not trustworthy by the women. As a consequence of having this type of support person with them intrapartum, the women had a negative experience of labour and childbirth. Therefore, this study recommends preparation classes for potential support persons so they can provide effective support for women during labour and childbirth. This study has the potential to contribute to improvements in maternity care services for childbearing women, support persons, and midwives in Indonesia, particularly those within the Javanese culture, and other countries with a similar birthing culture.

This essay is a case study of internally displaced persons in camps in the district of Vavunyia in northern Sri Lanka. The main question was; Why do some internally displaced persons remain in camps when many displaced people already have settled elsewhere? The aim of this study was to examine why some people stay in camps even after a ceasefire agreement has been signed and though many people already have settled. The literature on solutions of conflict-induced displacement is not conceptually rich or theoretically exact. Therefore this study also tried to make a model for analysing why some individuals remain in camps. The model is based on the political scientist Robert Dahl theories on “political resources”. The concept used in this essay is “personal resources”. The personal resources examined were social situations and land and property ownerships and political and legal rights. The study assumes from the hypothesis that the remaining people in camps lack these personal resources which are of importance for their ability and motivation to settle outside the camps. The personal resources have been divided into structural and agential factors.

The result of this study suggests that the given hypothesis was right; the remaining displaced persons lack most of the examined personal resources. Their social situation was characterised by low status, small social network in the place they fled from, low education and unskilled work. A majority of the displaced who remained in the camps were landless. Until recently their legal right to choose settlement was restricted. The only personal resource that the majority of the displaced possessed was the political right to vote. The lack of personal resources affects both the displaced persons’ ability and motivation to find a durable solution.

Worthy to note is that it is impossible to draw clear distinctions between what is to be seen as agential and structural factors. Landlessness which in the introduction was categorised as a structural factor was proved to also constitute an agential factor as it affects people’s motivation to return.

The study shows that the circumstances surrounding internally displaced persons are complex and constitute many obstacles to their possibility to find permanent settlements. The most obvious factors, like not having any place to return to and deprivation of the legal rights of choice of settlement, can be the most important explanations.

Current trends continue to move toward more inclusion of previously excluded cultures, religions, and experiences, as well as a more student-centered curriculum. This has not been a smooth transition, however, as some attempts continue to seem inadequate and others are met with continued conservative backlash. This thesis examines this shifting curriculum through the lens of well-remembered events from time spent as a student and a student teacher in social studies classrooms. An analysis of these experiences and related literature leads to an investigation of the possible implications for teachers and teacher education programs.

A firm’s ability to survive and prosper is often a function of its ability to design and develop new products that meet the needs of heterogeneous markets. The way in which a product is designed can have profound implications for product market structure and who is able to profit from an innovation, but despite this few industry studies have examined how and why product and industry architectures co-evolve and correspond across time. Notions of architectural co-evolution and correspondence are grounded in the modularity literature and assume a path towards increasing product modularity and industry specialisation. However, scholars have recently hinted that a reverse path towards increasing product and industry integration may be equally feasible. This research study contributes to the literature by proposing three stylised hybrid product and industry reintegration types that enhance our understanding of how and why reintegration may occur in product markets. Furthermore, the presence of a correspondence in the design characteristics between architectural layers (the so-called ‘mirroring hypothesis’) has also been suggested in the literature, such that product component design is often a blueprint for the way task, knowledge and firm boundaries are partitioned within a given product market. This research study finds that architectural correspondence is hard to sustain over time as firms often maintain a broader knowledge than task boundary for strategically important product components that offer differentiation opportunities or competitive advantage, contributing to the literature on contingencies that ‘mist the mirror’. Of particular interest to this research study is the UK personal pensions sector, a non-physical product, largely under-explored in the product modularity literature. By analysing the co-evolution and correspondence of a non-manufactured product over a 30-year period this research study breaks new ground. The research study makes use of a retrospective longitudinal research design, based upon semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of 31 key personnel. The interview data was subject to a combination of matrix and template analysis.

In Madagascar, the barriers to persons with disabilities’ employability are multifaceted and relate to accessibility, funding, attitudes, and policies. Managers lack knowledge on disability and still perceive disabled persons as incompetent and associate them with costly accommodation needs. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to examine the management strategies and leadership styles that managers could use to enhance the employability chances of persons with disabilities. The conceptual framework featured the concepts of empowerment, employability, disability identity, and relevant transformational leadership theories. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 28 managers in private companies, institutions, cooperatives, and organizations in 3 regions of Madagascar. Data analysis was done with open hand coding and using NVivo 12 software. Key findings related to enabling management strategies that included promoting fair recruitment, tailoring jobs to disabled workers’ competences and health conditions, ensuring communication and reasonable accommodation. The study revealed the merit of an inclusive transformational leadership in fostering the employability of persons with disabilities, through coaching, in-training supports, compassion and kinship, motivation, and trust building. The study benefits managers who could better attend to disabled workers’ vocational needs. The study contributes to positive changes by influencing attitude change within the workplace and the community that could pave the way to an inclusive society in which disabled people could enjoy their rights to work.

Abstract:
Due to the current competition in the labour market, organizations are forced to take actions if they are to stay competitive. Employer branding is a competitive strategy that have skyrocketed in practice in recent years. In the academic literature, the concept of employer branding is also fairly new which explains the lack of research on the subject. With empirical support, we have studied an overlooked aspect of the recruitment process that we think is important from the basis of the employer branding activities that organizations today are involved in. Failed recruitments are today a growing matter of concern for organizations and one of the underlying reasons for this can be how organizations work with their employer brand. Because of this, we have looked closer on employer branding from the perspective of organizations, and the effect it might have on failed recruitments. The empirical results from this study shows that the image that organizations mediate during their employer branding activities is of great importance for recruiting the right kind of employees into the organization. These results find theoretical support that stresses the weight of congruence between the individual and the organization, because there is a major risk of non-congruence if the wrong image of the organisation has been mediated. The result of this study contributes to an understanding of how employer branding can reduce the risk of failed recruitments.
Den konkurrens om arbetskraft som idag råder på arbetsmarknaden tvingar organisationer till åtgärder för att bättre matcha sina konkurrenter. Employer branding är en sådan åtgärd som under de senaste åren har skjutit i höjden sett till praktisk tillämpning. Inom den akademiska litteraturen är begreppet employer branding relativt nytt, vilket torde vara orsaken till den brist på forskning som finns inom ämnet. Med stöd i empiri har vi studerat och diskuterat en bortglömd aspekt av rekryteringsprocessen som vi bedömer viktig sett utifrån det employer branding arbete som organisationer idag gör. Felrekryteringar utgör idag ett stort problem för organisationer och en bakomliggande orsaken till detta kan vara hur organisationer arbetar med sitt employer brand. Vi har därför tittat närmare på employer branding utifrån organisationernas perspektiv och den påverkan det i slutändan har på felrekryteringar. Det empiriska materialet från denna studie visar på att den bild som organisationer förmedlar i sitt arbete med employer branding är av stor vikt för huruvida rätt personer kommer in i organisationen. Detta resultat finner även stöd i teorin som hävdar vikten av överensstämmelse mellan individ och organisation på flera olika plan, eftersom det är stor risk att denna överensstämmelse uteblir om fel bild av organisationen förmedlas. Studien bidrar därmed till en förståelse för hur employer branding kan minska risken för felrekryteringar.

Abstract:

Antalet personer med demenssjukdomar ökar i takt med att befolkningen blir allt äldre och en stor del av vården av personer med demenssjukdom utförs av anhöriga. För att kunna stödja anhörigvårdare är det viktigt att sjuksköterskor har kunskap om hur anhöriga upplever sin situation. Syftet med studien var att beskriva anhörigas upplevelse av att vårda personer med demenssjukdom. För att besvara syftet har en litteraturstudie genomförts där 12 kvalitativa artiklar analyserats. Ur analysen framkom sju teman: Upplevelse av stress, svårigheter och otillräcklighet, Upplevelse av sorg och förlust, Upplevelse av förändrade relationer och roller, Upplevelse av förpliktelse, Upplevelse av välbefinnande, Upplevelse av stöd, samt Upplevelse av att bemästra och skapa mening i sin situation. Resultatet i denna studie kan bidra till en ökad förståelse för hur anhörigvårdare upplever sin situation, något som erfordras för att sjukvården skall kunna erbjuda anhöriga som vårdar personer med demenssjukdom ett adekvat stöd.


The number of people with dementia is increasing whilst the population gets older.  A great part of the care is provided by relatives. In order to support family caregivers’ nurses are required to obtain knowledge about how relatives perceive their situation. The purpose of this study was to describe the experience of relatives providing care for persons with dementia. To answer the purpose a literature study was made where 12 qualitative articles were analyzed.  Findings illustrates seven themes: The experience of stress, difficulties and inadequacy, The experience of grief and loss, The experience of changing relationships and roles, The experience of obligation, The experience of wellbeing, The experience of support, and finally The experience of coping and making sense of the situation. The result of this study could contribute to an increased understanding of how family caregiver’s experience their situation. This is required in order to offer relatives who provide care for a person with dementia an adequate support.

Abstract:
The Swedish school has been faced with a bad reputation the last decades. There are growing concerns regarding that the quality of the education has gone downhill, and reports are frequently made, stating a strain work environment for the school personnel, specifically the teachers. In combination with debates and reports, concerning the relatively low teacher wages and the notion that the status for the teacher profession, is lower today than before; have ultimately created a notion that teachers leave their occupation on these factors. The teacher turnover in Sweden is higher than their Nordic neighbours, but there are signs that the reasons regarding the turnover rate, are not fully understood. This study will try to give an insight on the factors behind the relatively high turnover rate in the teacher occupation. This study is based on a deductive approach where we have gathered empirical evidence, using semi-structured interviews. The candidates for the interviews were selected through a stratified sample, to examine why the turnover rate of the teacher occupation is high through motivational and institutional theories. The results of this paper contribute to a broader knowledge on the factors regarding the teacher turnover rate. Our theories about motivation- and institutional theory, have proven relevant to map the factors behind the turnover rate. Although our factors are significant for the subject, further extensive research will be needed on the matter, to give a more complete picture of the issue. This paper is written in Swedish.
Den svenska skolan har fått ett dåligt anseende de sista decennierna. Det finns en växande oro angående att kvaliteten på undervisningen har varit fallande, och frekventa rapporter görs, som påstår att skolmiljön är ansträngd för skolans personal, specifikt lärare. I kombination med debatter och rapporter, beträffande de relativt låga lärarlönerna och uppfattningen om att statusen på läraryrket skulle vara lägre idag än förut; har skapat uppfattningen att lärare lämnar yrket av dessa faktorer. Läraromsättningen i Sverige är högre än våra nordiska grannländer, men det finns tecken på att anledningarna bakom den höga personalomsättningen, är inte fullt förstådda. Denna studie kommer försöka ge en insikt av de faktorer som ligger till grund för den relativt höga personalomsättningen bland lärare. Studien är baserad på en deduktiv ansats där vi har samlat empiriskt material, genom semi-strukturerade intervjuer. Intervjukandidaterna valdes genom ett stratifierat urval, för att undersöka varför personalomsättningen bland lärare är hög, genom motivationsteorier och institutionella teorier. Undersökningens resultat bidrar till en bredare kunskap angående faktorerna bakom den höga läraromsättningen. Våra använda teorier om motivation-och institutionsteori, har visat sig relevant för att kartlägga väsentliga faktorer bakom personalomsättningen. Trots att våra faktorer är signifikanta för ämnet, kommer det krävas ytterligare betydande forskning på området för att ge en mer komplett bild om ämnet.

Abstract:
Syftet är att undersöka hur kunskapsintensiva enheter kan behålla personalen längre. Ju längre Försvarsmakten behåller en individ desto mer erfarenhet kommer denna individ att alstra. En erfarenhet som Försvarsmakten kan dra nytta av i utvecklingen av metoder, tekniker och materiel. Genom effektiv kompetensförsörjning minskar risken för reducerad operativ förmåga. Forskningsfrågan tar avstamp i egna observationer och erfarenheter vid de kunskapsintensiva förband där författarna tjänstgjort. Studien är genomförd vid ett av dessa – Röjdykardivisionen. Forskningsansatsen är induktiv och uppsatsen är skriven efter en kvalitativ fallstudie. Empirin i studien består av fyra semistrukturerade intervjuer samt sex mejlintervjuer. Empirin har analyserats mot referensramen som omfattar tidigare forskning inom främst Employer Branding (EB) men även personalförsörjning och generation Y & Z. Slutsatsen är att kunskapsintensiva enheter kan arbeta med EB i syfte att behålla rätt personal längre. Ur empirin framkommer kategorier specifika för vår fallstudie och som har en direkt koppling till varför individer söker, stannar eller slutar vid enheten. Det som fått respondenterna att Söka är kategorierna; Kamratskap, kvalitet på medarbetarna, upplevelser och Arbetsuppgifter. Det är således dessa egenskaper den här enheten kommunicerat ut som erbjudande till sin resurspool i marknadsföringen. Majoriteten av kategorierna som varit avgörande för respondenterna i att Söka är lika viktiga i att Stanna. Här handlar det om att tillfredsställa de anställdas “krav”. I Stanna fasen tillkommer kategorierna; Utveckling och-/eller Karriär, Livsbalans, Ekonomi samt Ledarskap som alla påverkar benägenheten att stanna. Analyserar enheten kategorierna under både Söka och Stanna skulle erbjudandet kunna bygga på fler kategorier i marknadsföringen framöver. Det är också möjligt för enheten att fortsätta att arbeta med EVP gentemot befintlig personal för att få dem at stanna längre. En arbetsmetod för detta presenteras i appendix 1, Processmodell, ATR.

Abstract:
This research project attempted to identify and describe the essence of the experience of being an out lesbian in elite coaching. Through the use of a feminist epistemology, a phenomenological methodology, and in-depth interviews with eight high performance coaches who identify as lesbian, it was possible to identify and describe the essence of their experiences being out lesbians in elite coaching. The data were analyzed using an inductive phenomenological analysis procedure. The six themes that emerged from the data were: sexism, lesbophobia, the old boys' club, acknowledgement and positive reinforcement, the supportive feminist network, and the nature of the job. Sport was identified as a domain rife with sexism, lesbophobia, and dominated by the old boys' club all of which negatively impacted the lesbian coaches' experiences and career advancement. However, with positive reinforcement of their lesbian identity and the supportive feminist network, the participants nevertheless experienced great personal and professional success.

Abstract:
This dissertation analyzes the personal computer's (PC) domestication during the 1970s and 1980s in the U. S. I argue that in adopting the PC Americans debated and asserted ideas of technology, race, family, and gender. Revising previous explanations that situated the home computer as the natural development of mainframe machines, This dissertation argues that the device emerged from American amateur electronics culture. Furthermore, the new discourses of the personal computer centered the home as its material center that inflected and challenged the PC's other environments, such as schools, public entertainment venues, and civil institutions. While journalistic accounts of personal computing have relied on technical details and hagiography, I uncover the computer's impact on the family circle through analysis of films, newspaper articles, marketing materials, and hobbyist literature. This dissertation reads "against the grain" to recover the voices of makers and users outside the dominant culture and to understand how the home computers' emergence contributed to their marginalization. in doing so, it portrays the computer less as a force for social liberation and more as a reactionary and conservative force used to curtail and reverse 1960s civil and political flux. in short, it finds discourses around personal computers contested and fostered 1.) assertions of its technology as particularly suited for a patriarchal heteronormative family; 2.) parental worries about creativity and education that perpetuated racial inequalities in schools and 3.) threats to masculinity in public entertainment venues, such as the arcade.

In an increasingly complex world where people routinely handle large amounts of information, individuals are constantly challenged to manage and effectively use the information that they are responsible for. While email is the canonical example of an information overloading application, other well known PIM applications and tasks cited in earlier chapters of this book include maintaining addresses and contacts, scheduling, and organizing the various documents and bookmarks that one is interested in. Not surprisingly, there are individual differences (ID) in how, and how well, people cope with the challenge of personal information management. This greatly complicates any scientific analysis of PIM behavior. Thus, in addition to the evaluation methods discussed in the previous chapter, researchers and designers need to consider when and how individual differences should be included within parsimonious interpretations and explanations of PIM behavior. In this chapter we propose an approach where differences between individuals are considered last, after the influences of the environment and the task context have first been considered, and after group difference (e.g., between job classifications) have been investigated. We believe that this is a logical way to proceed, since like observing an ant walking over sand-dunes (cf. Simon, 1996) we should not ascribe complexities to an individual if they can instead be explained as due to properties of the environment. The goal of this chapter will be to review and synthesize some of the key findings in how PIM behavior differs between individuals. Some of the reasons why these differences occur and what can be done about them will also be discussed.

Abstract:

This study examined if diagnostic overshadowing occurred with lay people in regard to individuals with an intellectual disability, as well as investigating how lay people essentialize different categories. It was hypothesized that essentialistic thinking could be offered as a partial explanation for diagnostic overshadowing because certain mental health disorders would be categorized as having a strong, unchangeable biological component to them. Three hundred and thirty undergraduate general psychology students from the University of Central Arkansas completed the Essentialism Belief Scale on nine different concepts, read different case descriptions of an individual with or without an intellectual disorder, and gave their impressions of the individual as experiencing anxiety, depression, and if the person had an intellectual disability. Contrary to expectation, lay people did not demonstrate diagnostic overshadowing. Therefore, the relationship between essentialistic thinking and diagnostic overshadowing could not be confirmed and suggests that diagnostic overshadowing may occur for reasons other than essentialistic thinking. Interestingly, when essentialistic thinking was analyzed using a principal components analysis, a three-factor solution for essentialistic thinking was found, accounting for 72.22% of the variance, with the three factors appearing to demonstrate a biological, non-biological, and mental health grouping.

Abstract:

Syfte:            Syftet med denna uppsats är att få en inblick i hur företag ser på rekrytering via bemanningsföretag. Vilka är de bakomliggande motiven till att hyra personal istället för att anställa och dess fördelar/nackdelar?

Metod:          En förstudie följd av en kvalitativ undersökning med intervjuer. Intervjumetoden blev i ostrukturerad form där respondenterna fritt fick tala utifrån den egna referensramen. En telefonteknik användes vid bokning av intervjuer.

Problem:      För att uppnå en maximal lönsamhet och samtidigt behålla kvalitet och ha snabba leveranser till kund, försöker företagen att minska på det bundna kapitalet. Vid en fastanställning kan det bli problematiskt ur denna aspekt då företaget efter en period inte längre är i behov av den fastanställda personalens kompetens. Trenden att hyra personal istället för att anställa har därför ökat. Vad blir effekterna av detta? 

Målgrupp:   Denna studie vänder sig till företag som är intresserade av att hyra personal eller som redan hyr personal. Men även för bemanningsföretag, blivande konsulter samt övriga intressenter som har en direkt eller indirekt anknytning till detta ämne.

Slutsatser:    Genom studien har vi, utifrån våra respondenter, fått reda på bakomliggande motiven till inhyrning av personal samt de fördelar och nackdelar detta innebär. Fördelar: flexibilitet, produktiv personal, undvika personalbrist, kompetens samt nytänkande. Nackdelar: motivationsbrist, illojalitet, urholkning av företagskultur, stämning på arbetsplatsen samt att företag kan hamna i en beroendeställning. Baserat på vår undersökning har vi kunnat dra slutsats om att personalinhyrning även är en konkurrensfördel. Det är viktigt för företag att integrera konsulter i företaget med de fastanställda för att skapa en starkare gemenskapskänsla. Det är även viktigt med tydlighet när konsulter ska rekryteras.


Purpose:       The purpose of this essay is to gain insight into how companies look at recruiting through employment agencies – which the underlying rationale is to hire staff instead of employing and its advantages and disadvantages.

Method:       A feasibility study followed by a qualitative study with interviews. The interview method was in unstructured form in which respondents were free to speak from their own frame of reference. A phone method was used in the booking of interviews.

Problem:      In order to achieve maximum profitability, while maintaining quality and have fast delivery to the customers, companies are trying to reduce the part of capital that is tied up. It can therefore be a problem for companies when they employ someone permanently and after a period of time realizing that they no longer are in need of this person’s skills. The trend to hire staff instead of recruiting has because of this reason increased. What are the effects of this?

Audience:     This study is aimed to companies who are interested in hiring staff or companies that hire staff already. But even for workers, prospective consultants and other stakeholders who are directly or indirectly related to this subject.

 

 

Results:        Through this study, we have, based on our respondents, found out the underlying reasons for hiring of personnel and the advantages and disadvantages that entails. Advantages: flexibility, productive staff, avoiding staff shortages, competence and innovations. Disadvantages: lack of motivation, disloyalty, erosion of the corporate culture, morale, and that company could be in a position of dependence. Based on the survey, we have been able to draw conclusions that staff hiring also is a competitive advantage. It is important for companies to integrate consultants into the company with the staff to create a stronger sense of community. It is also important to have clarity on consultants to be recruited.

This thesis investigated the use of consumer wearable devices to gather large quantities of data in naturalistic settings and enable large-scale sleep studies. By exploiting the massive uptake of mobile phones and wearable devices and using the data they produce for large-scale sleep monitoring, this research opens the way for a better understanding of sleep dynamics which, in turn, are known to play a crucial role in health.
