Rèbre, Isabelle. "Figures du deuil et du photographique. Formes du film-essai chez Naomi Kawase, Alain Cavalier et David Perlov." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Paris 8, 2021. http://www.theses.fr/2021PA080044.
This dissertation is a consideration of the photographic in its relation to memory and mourning in both their personal and historical forms. It demonstrates how photography is a figure of mourning; how it is at once a means of connecting and a means of cutting off. Figures of mourning and filmmakers’ unique formal gestures are analyzed through a pared-down corpus of three essay films. In Letter From a Yellow Cherry Blossom (2002), Naomi Kawase is personally confronted with death. Her use of photographic stills provokes an interruption that reverses a seemingly fatal trajectory. Photography is a connecting figure that brings together the living and the dead. In Alain Cavalier’s This Answering Service Takes No Messages (1978), the filmmaker embodies a man in mourning. He uses a number of photographic stills from his personal archives, including newspaper clippings showing cadavers from the Second World War. This gesture of reuse brings out the historical dimension of the issues investigated in this dissertation. Photography becomes a figure of cutting off: the film deploys a number of figures through which rupture is insistent and participates in a process of mourning. In David Perlov’s Diary (1973-1982), a project bookended by two wars, these issues take on a political dimension. The Israeli filmmaker and photographer makes use of a number of photographic formats. Through reuse and repetition, the photographic allows for a transformation of the figure that breaks off from a traumatic past
This thesis is based on a qualitative and reflexive analysis in order to interpret the narrative, visual and sound resources that articulate the cinematographic essays “Diary” (1973-1983), “Updated Diary” (1990-1999) and “My Stills” (1952-2002). These operations seek to describe the poetics of the interval that its author, Brazilian-Israeli filmmaker, photographer and visual artist, David Perlov (Rio de Janeiro, 1930 - Tel Aviv, 2003), displays to represent his uprooting. The set of these diaries forms a unique cinematographic corpus; a filme-fleuve of around ten hours that shapes the daily experience of Perlov throughout fifty years of his life, and becomes a monumental passage that connects the different spheres in which his reality oscillates: his affective and personal intimacy, his identity as a nomad and the crises and wars in which Israel was involved during the second half of the 20th century. In order to depict a fractured and “in transit” subjectivity, Perlov convenes diverse essayistic self-representation strategies that operate on a discursive, aesthetic and political level, and which travers the various artistic manifestations he developed throughout his life. The expressive searches set out by his diaries gather together elements not only from the cinematographic arts, but also from photography, painting, literature and music. Hence, Perlov’s documentary gaze holds a great audiovisual complexity, rich in intertextual winks, gestures, faces, bodies, trajectories, spaces, objects, houses, sounds, voices and reflections that imbricate to shape an open, fluid and interstitial filmic weave. This research aims to interrogate this multiplicity of resources from an inter-relational approach, able to examine those interstitial practices that formulate an aesthetic of the interval, characteristic in Perlov’s diaries. Based on this scheme and as a result of the correspondence between theory and analysis, the thesis proposes to delimit the concept of “hinge image” to symbolize the passages, relations and tensions between life and art; the private and the public; interior and exterior; inside and outside —metaphorized in the home and the street—; between domestic and political; microhistory and macrohistory; past and present; between the universe of the living and the realm of the dead; between the self and the others; between exile and returns; between nomadism, borders, homelands and cities (Tel Aviv, Sâo Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Paris); belonging and uprooting, between the still and the moving image; between analogue technologies —celluloid— and electromagnetic devices —video—; between sound and sense; voice and word, just to mention some of the multiple transits through the thresholds offered by Perlov’s ouvre. Among other elements, the interstitial poetic of the hinge image visually decodes into a persistent presence of windows, doors and archways, as mechanisms of fluctuation that regulate both the flows between the different universes of representation intertwined in Perlov’s diaries, and the relations that operate in the problematization of his substantial uprooting and foreignness.

In today's world, having a pet is very common in every home. In Metropolitan Lima, 1.37 million households have a pet at home, this represents 55% of Lima households, and it is estimated that by 2021 the figure will reach 1.45 million (Ipsos, 2016). Our research allows us to know that people who have a dog, generally consider the dog as another member of the household, however care for pets sometimes cannot be given due to the lack of time that their owners present and that they even prevent them from being able to walk their pets at least once a day. Therefore, if this does not happen, dogs suffer from stress and somatic diseases that are triggered, in addition to behavior problems that in the long run cause problems for the owners and their homes (Mármol, 2016). This situation gives rise to the creation of "Safe Barks", a project that seeks to formalize a service for dog walkers, relying on state-of-the-art technological tools such as an application that provides pet owners with a safe and good quality service. In addition, a training will be developed that allows the canines to obtain all the exercise and care they require during the time they are away from home.

Vitamin K-dependent protein (VKDPs) is a family of proteins known for their involvement in the regulation of blood coagulation. Their activity depends on post-translational modification, the γ-carboxylation, witch is inhibited by warfarin. Two VKDPs, protein S and Gas6 have been identified as ligands of TAM receptor tyrosine kinase family. The study lead in mice invalidated for these receptors suggests the involvement of VKDPs in neurogenesis. In rodents, neurogenesis provided by neural stem cells (NSC) persists into adulthood in several brain regions including the subventricular zone (SVZ). My thesis had the main objective to understand the effect of VKDPs on NSC activity of the SVZ but also the involvement of Gas6 protein in retinogenesis. Our results show that the inhibition of VKDPs secretion by warfarin stimulates NSC proliferation. In addition, we show that TAM receptors and their ligands are expressed by NSC and in CSF, that exogenous protein S reverses the warfarin effects and that absence of Gas6 protein in Gas6-/ - mice induced a reduction of NSC proliferation. All these results revealed the involvement of VKDPs in the regulation of NSC proliferation. The second part of this work shows that NSC have a basal phagocytosis activity that is stimulated by protein S. The third part of this work shows that Gas6-/- mice subject to a retinal lesion, cell proliferation to repair the damage is less important than in wild mice

The purpose with this study is to achieve a deeper knowledge and understanding for the perceived importance of using a Person-Organization fit in recruitment. The study also aims to investigate a possible existing organizational culture in an industrial company, and how concistent this culture seems to be throughout the organization. The authors have also tried to gain knowledge on how new employees are indroduced into this culture. The results are based on three group interviews with operational personnel, interviews with two persons from the manegerial group, and interviews with two recruitment firms. The results indicate that a Person-Organization fit is perceived to be important when it comes to some basic values. However, different personalities are more desirable within the investigated organization concerning recruits. Results also indicate that the socialization process, rather than an applied Person-Organization fit, might have a larger significance for a perceived congruence between personal and organizational values.
Sourdis, Carolina. Doctoral thesis, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/461008.
This PhD dissertation approaches the film-essay as dialectics of film creation, understood as a method to link both film theory and practice. Based on the studies of the essay as form proposed in the field of film studies, the thesis formulates the conceptualization of the essay film from its particularities as a creative process and traces its genealogy to Walter Benjamin’s methodological approach in The Arcades Project. This research conceives filmic practices as a way of thinking cinema theoretically and understands the figure of the filmmaker as a craftsman, who appropriates the production norms to inscribe his presence in the image. This study takes as the main core the methods of creation exposed by Jean-Luc Godard and Anne-Marie Miéville, David Perlov and Jonas Mekas where the essay film is not revealed as a form but as a discovery experience in and for creation.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze P2P lending, its formation and development and evaluate how it has worked for small businesses and start-ups. Problem statement: The study examines how person-to-person lending through the Internet has emerged. Furthermore, the study examines the development of the P2P platform Lending Club since its inception in 2007 until 2011. Finally, the study examines the characteristics of the borrowers at Lending Club who are applying for loans to small businesses and start-ups, as well as how they perform in terms of their ability to repay their loans. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework consists mainly of scientific articles regarding the financial gap, information asymmetries and credit rating. Furthermore, studies on social lending and P2P-lending are presented in a background chapter. Conclusions: The study concludes that P2P lending through the Internet has its origins in social lending and made possible by foremost technological development of rating tools. The development of Lending Club has shifted from more of a social network to more of a financial intermediary with creditworthy borrowers and institutional investors. Members on Lending Club that borrow to small businesses and start-ups are characterized by having a higher credit rating compared to other borrowers, while they perform less well in terms of ability to repay.

With the dawn of interactive Web Applications the face of the Web was changed forever. Web sites are no longer the lifeless, static pages of the past, thanks to Javascript they became full-fledged interactive applications, now competing with their desktop counterparts. Thus, for a privacy-oriented architecture proposed for service sharing, it was decided to design them as Web applications, naturally using Javascript. However, this language presents some serious security issues, and since the architecture should tolerate the inclusion of untrusted third-party Web applications, allowing an unconstrained use of Javascript in those applications is unacceptable. Since removing all Javascript is not an option when it comes to build interactive, modern, Web applications, we need somehow to use controlled Javascript. Many solutions were developed in the past that try to isolate trusted Javascript and sensitive information on a Web page with unstrusted Javascript. Our approach is different because we do not analyse existing Javascript code deployed within Web Applications, as others did. Instead, we completely filter out any Javascript used by our applications, and we use special annotations in Web pages to inject our own, risk-free Javascript code. Thus, we designed and developed a system able to parse certain keywords (or annotations) that translate into safe Javascript code, which allows us to have a complete control over the Javascript code running on an application plugged into this architecture. For asserting a minimum set of annotations necessary to build an appealing and reactive Web application, we developed three different applications that use them: a photo sharing gallery, a text chat and a voice chat.

The RADAR is already relatively old for military purposes that underwent a major development during World War II. Nowadays there is a strong development in RADAR in navigation or surveillance/security applications. This dissertation follows on from these new applications, which aim to develop a low cost RADAR that allows the user to detect people as well as their movements through walls or opaque objects. The development of this RADAR has relied on emerging technologies such as adaptive antennas and SDR that allow for great versatility and adaptation in terms of applications. The use of a MIMO RADAR provides a greater diversity of information that guarantees more probabilities of detection and the application of digital techniques of beamforming, allows to know the position and the movement of the person. With the implementation of these techniques a prototype capable of detecting people and their movements through walls and bricks was successfully developed solving the initial problem. In the RADAR design phase it was necessary to characterize the propagation of radio waves in building materials, such as bricks and wood, by measuring their attenuation. In this way it was possible to perform the power balance for several scenarios.

This bachelor thesis examines the potential risks of face to face communication that may occur during the use of modern technology and social media. The aim is to find out what kind of impact may occur when people over consume modern technology and various types of social media (e.g. Facebook, twitter, Instagram and Myspace). The study will then form a base for a digital game witch will focus on finding a way technology can improve communication face to face. The game will introduce the players to a problem that only can be solved by working and communicate with each other.

The neosporosis is an emergent disease, considered important cause of abortion in the cattle and serious neuromuscular disease in dogs. The aim of the present study was to determine the seroprevalencia of Neospora caninum in dogs of dairy farms of the left basin of the Valley of Mantaro. 124 serum of dogs were evaluated of 24 dairy farms of the provinces: Huancayo, Jauja and Concepcion. A prevalencia of antibodies against N. caninum dectect was 19.35 ± 6.95 % (24/124), in a dilution of 1:50, by means of the indirect inmunofluorescense test. The percentage of stables that possessed at least an infected dog was 62.5 % (15/24). Association were not situated between the rate of infection and the variables geographical location, age, gender, and origin (of the stable or of around). This result shows, at dogs in the Valley of the Mantaro, a seroprevalence of N. caninum moderate, by what there is recommended the control of the aproach of the dogs for the dairy establishments, moreover that infection is present in the majority of stables in the Valley of the Mantaro.

The objective of this study was to determine the frequency monthly, seasonal and annual cases of bacterial otitis in the period 2001-2006 in the bacteriology laboratory of the FMV-UNMSM. Also, identify bacterial species involved and the most common bacterial susceptibility to antibiotics. The results of this study indicate 429 cases, decreasing gradually since 2001 with 183 cases until 2006 with 26 cases. Moreover, the ear infections were mostly caused by one agent being the most frequently agent isolated the Staphylococcus intermedius, with 27.72%. However, we must take in account important agents as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus sp. and Staphylococcus sp.. In susceptibility testing by the Kirby-Bauer method, we found the highest level of bacterial susceptibility to quinolones, aminoglycosides, cephalosporins and penicillins combined with inhibitors of betalactamics. Meanwhile, penicillins, sulfas, tetracyclines, macrolides and lincosamides were less effective in inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. Key Words: Otitis, susceptibility, bacteria.

This investigation has been focused on the needs of independence and safety of the visually impaired. The study of these individuals’ daily routine reveals if the solution we are suggesting, we have come to think it is best, fits with the problem we detected. Using tools such as the Business Model Canvas and the Experiment Board, together with a suitable Marketing Plan and Operations Plan, we would determine if the solution solves the problem that our potential client faces every day. In Peru, according to INEI last report, there are 600,000 people with visual impairment. From this total, 160,000 suffer from total blindness and 440,000 have some visual related disease. The suggested business model has its roots in the motivation of helping assist these people properly by offering a sustainable service to solve their problems as we observed these are being neglected. As in today, consciousness on the needs for the visual impaired in the country have not been taken nor offered help in the proper scale as needed.

The main issue of this thesis is concerned to the listening and it's compositions in view of the experimental ways of frequentation of the architecture person-to-person in the internet. They will be approached, as empirical corpus, practices of sonorous compositions spread through site-programs like soulseek.org and known as bootleg mash ups. The research tries to demonstrate the difficulties coming from the specutations of the thought when dealing with the investigation how the sensations in the listening, make some contagious, encouraged by collective affects linked to the temporalities of the technology and the musical creation. The conceptual basis of this thesis leans on the approximation among the echoing ideas of F. Nietzsche, Gabriel Tarde, Henri Bergson, F. Pessoa, Gilles Deleuze and F. Guattari. The purpposal is to discuss, from the conceptions that these authors brought to the problem of the imagem in the thought, what changes about the sensation of listening when the image of the thought changes. In such a way this work adopts the contribution of the "thought of the haecceitas", trying to re-imagine the creative virtualities of the Time in the composition of the musical listening. Accorded to this conception, instead of abiding by the practice of cutting and pastting sonorous elements, the desktop's composer will need to invest previously in an experimental economy of rhythms and images of the Time to potencialize the sensations in the listening. From this premise, it is asserted that the creative performances of musical listening, stimulated by the ways of conviviality into the sites peer-to-peer, need to interfere in the regimes of perception, sense and the image that the subjectivity aquires in the stereotyped cadences of the internet. Such practices present themselves as an heteronymic poetical activity, with an invenctive resistence to the recent technological processes of subjectivation. To achieve this level, the compositional listening needs to go beyond the reccuring stable regimes of the sound, the sign, the space, the phenomenon, the sense, the techinque and the musical logos in the transcndentalimage of thought. From this creative battle in a saturated enviroment of axioms, the musical composition faces up the problem of retitute singular in the sensation, to transduce the wills and to make a contagious of the sensivity virtualities into the thought of the listening
