Abstract:
An important issue in human resources is the procedure of the employees’ performance evaluation. The appraisal is essential in the sense of employee appreciation and motivation. Most employers use a subjective performance evaluation of a single superior or a group of persons involved in the employee’s working processes. The subjective evaluation of a group or one person is often questioned about being appropriate. An often-named solution for a more objective criteria could be data driven performance measures. Professional sport provides a unique opportunity to compare objective and subjective performance evaluation measures. A data set of the German Bundesliga was used to test if the two different performance measure come to equal results. It is shown that differences in means exist but equivalence tests support the hypothesis that both measures could be treated as equal. In toto, it seems that in an environment where performance is relatively good to measure objective and subjective performance evaluations lead to equivalent results.

Abstract:
Lectures that use probability or statistics often appear complex to students, sometimes because the underlying stochastic models are not explicited. Writing a stochastic simulation program is a common exercise in a performance evaluation course, and we can view a simulation program as an implementation of a stochastic model. Thus, students who took such a course are trained to fully specify stochastic models, and this can help them fully understand probabilistic statements. We give examples in the context of random graphs as well as in the interpretation of residual scores in machine learning. Last we observe that Palm calculus, which is at the heart of classical queuing theory, can be used to provide important insights into sampling problems encountered in data collection tasks.

Abstract:
The goal of this research was to obtain feedback and perspectives from human resource experts regarding the applicability of a newly created performance evaluation document. Reviewed literature includes sources indicating the documentation for employee performance evaluations have not been revised in decades. No recent literature was found regarding updating performance evaluations. Through an exploratory case study, human resource experts helped discern the need to update performance evaluation documents, including the 11 most recognized organizational citizenship behaviors. Purposive and snowball participant selection comprised five qualifying human resources subject matter experts representing healthcare, business, retail, manufacturing, and education from various cities in the United States. Findings revealed the need for organizations to update performance evaluations from the current antiquated and generic documents that only measure basic job-task performance. The outcome was agreement that human resource leaders should update their performance evaluation document to Exhibit B. Results empirically confirmed human resource leaders would support an updated performance evaluation document, substantiating my argument that the newly created performance evaluation document would be beneficial to everyone by fully recognizing and measuring the value of all employee contributions in the workplace.

Abstract:
Motivated by the growing attraction of the mutual fund industry worldwide, this research seeks to explore the economic benefits contributed by the South African equity unit trust managers over the period from 6 January 2002 to 2 September 2012. The performance statistics of selected equity unit trusts are examined for the overall examination period and two sub-periods: 6 January 2002 to 6 May 2007 and 7 May 2007 to 2 September 2012. The first sub-period captures the bullish performance of the unit trusts before the 2008 global financial crisis. The second sub-period captures the global financial crisis and the European debt crisis before the European Central Bank (ECB) subsequently implemented the outright monetary transactions (OMT) to curb the yields in Eurozone. The risk-adjusted performance measures employed by this study include the Sharpe ratio, M-squared, Treynor measure and Jensen’s alpha. Regardless of the different applications of risk-return parameters employed to evaluate fund performance, the results reveal that, on average, most of the equity unit trust managers in South Africa do not outperform the market proxy on a consistent basis. The majority of the unit trust managers show good performance before the crisis, with subsequent inferiority in performance in turbulent times. Keywords: unit trusts, active portfolio management, passive portfolio management, performance evaluation, efficient market hypothesis (EMH). JEL Classification: G11, G12, G14, G15

Abstract:
We study optimal incentive contracts with multiple agents when performance is evaluated by a reviewer. The reviewer may be biased in favor of the agents, but the degree of bias is unknown to the principal. We show that a contest, which is a contract in which the principal fixes a set of prizes to be allocated to the agents, is optimal. By using a contest, the principal can commit to sustaining incentives despite the reviewer's potential leniency bias. The optimal effort profile can be uniquely implemented by an all‐pay auction with a cap. Our analysis has implications for various applications, such as the design of worker compensation or the allocation of research grants.

Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to examine (a) whether grade-level differences exist on self-evaluation tendencies over time, (b) if grade-level differences and evaluator differences exist, alone and in combination, on music performance evaluation, (c) if relationships exist between student self-evaluation and expert evaluations of music performance by grade level, and (d) whether differences exist between grade level and music performance subarea (tone, intonation, melody, etc.) on self-evaluation accuracy. Middle ( N=92) and high school ( N=51) instrumentalists participating in two summer music programs self-evaluated their performances during rehearsals, while expert evaluators judged an individual final performance. Results indicated differences between grade levels on performance self-evaluation as the week progressed for some subareas. High school students were more accurate in their self-evaluations than were middle school musicians for all subareas except melody and rhythm. Middle school students' scores showed greater correlation with experts than did those of high school musicians. Both groups were most accurate in their evaluation of melody and least accurate in evaluation of technique/articulation. January 3, 2005 May 11, 2005.

Abstract:
Introduction: Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is considered a useful method of assessing clinical skills besides Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and clinical evaluations. Aim: To explore the acceptance of medical students to this assessment tool in medical education and to determine whether the assessment results of MCQs and faculty clinical evaluations agree with the respective OSCE scores of 4th year medical students (Med IV). Methods: performance of a total of 223 Med IV students distributed on academic years 2006-2007, 2007-2008, and 2008-2009 in OSCE, MCQs and faculty evaluations were compared. Out of the total 93 students were asked randomly to fill a questionnaire about their attitudes and acceptance of this tool. The OSCE was conducted every two months for two different groups of medical students who had completed their family medicine rotation, while faculty evaluation based on observation by assessors was submitted on a monthly basis upon the completion of the rotation. The final exam for the family medicine clerkship was performed at the end of the 4thacademic year, and it consisted of MCQsResults: Students highly commended the OSCE as a tool of evaluation by faculty members as it provides a true measure of required clinical skills and communication skills compared to MCQs and faculty evaluation. The study showed a significant positive correlation between the OSCE scores and the clinical evaluation scores while there was no association between the OSCE score and the final exam scores. Conclusion: Student showed high appreciation and acceptance of this type of clinical skills testing. Despite the fact that OSCEs make them more stressed than other modalities of assessment, it remained the preferred one.

Abstract:
This project analyses vehicle behavior from measurements of air pollutants (CO2) sound pollution levels, measured in ppm and decibels respectively. Such measurements are taken by a wireless sensor network mounted in the Baghdad Dora Express way, Iraq. Four sensor nodes and a coordinator form the wireless network based on the Zig bee norm. The sensor nodes wirelessly send the data to the coordinator, who displays the actions defined by the measurement curves through a graphic interface built in JAVA and store the data on a MySQL web server. The analysis of vehicle behavior considers noise levels and carbon dioxide concentration higher than their base reference value, measured in a certain period of time. Comparative and individual graphs of noise and carbon dioxide concentration taken in two days of measurement, belonging to the nodes, show greater vehicular activity in peak hours that are reduced at the end of the day and at midnight, in addition to the individual performance of the nodes within the network, which depends on the infrastructure of the Integrated Security System ECU911.

Abstract:
This paper presents the performance evaluation of a passive solar dryer. The Dryer was designed and constructed at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Caritas University, Amorji-Nike, and Enugu, Nigeria. The Dryer was constructed using locally sourced materials from Ogbete main market, Enugu. Experimentation was carried out using samples of 20mm and 40mm sliced cassava chips weighing 46g and 80g respectively in the month of November, 2020.Temperature readings of the ambient air, the drying chamber and the collector chamber were recorded and tabulated for the hours of 10.00am to 5.00pm for the first day and 9.00am to 4.00pm for the second day. The moisture content and drying rates were evaluated for both samples using both dry and wet basis. Plots were made on the variation of temperature with time as well as moisture content with time for both dry and wet basis for the two days. Results show that the mass of the water removed were 112g and 105g for the first and second day respectively. Results also show the collector efficiency as 37.9% while the dryer efficiency was evaluated to be 37.6%. The moisture content of the 20mm samples of cassava slices were evaluated to be 53.03% and 38.8% for the first and second day respectively, while of the 40mm sample were evaluated as 112.9% and 64.6% respectively for the first and second day. The moisture loss or drying rate for the respective samples of 20mm and 40mm were evaluated to be 27.0g/hr and 34.0g/hr, showing percentage drying rates of 62.1% and 68% for the first and second day respectively. The equipment and the test therefrom have shown tremendous improvement on crop drying over the conventional open air drying method used in the region/location under study. It also provided a veritable tool for training students on heat and mass transfer analysis.

While there are a number of focus collections under evaluation, the Rhododendron collection is one of the central features of the program. This report offers performance data for more than 100 specimens grown at the Lyle E. Littletield Ornamentals Trial Garden on the campus of the Univ. of Maine. Winter survival, folk disease rating, fall foliage color and effectiveness, and flowering dates are included.

Abstract:
This study extends prior research on general Balanced Scorecard (BSC) evaluation tendencies (e.g., Lipe and Salterio 2000; Ittner et al. 2003; Banker et al. 2004) by documenting that patterns in BSC evaluations vary with a quality of the evaluator. Specifically, using data from an experimental performance assessment exercise, we find that evaluators' “ambiguity intolerance” (Budner 1962) influences their reaction to variation among performance measures within a BSC category. Further, we find that increased variation within a BSC category causes ambiguity-intolerant evaluators to give lower performance evaluation scores when the BSC category indicates relatively strong performance, but has no significant effect when the BSC category indicates relatively weak performance. These results are consistent with the argument that ambiguity-intolerant individuals are more likely to discount or ignore ambiguous information when the ambiguity relates to positive information. Our findings have significant practical implications regarding the accuracy and consistency of BSC evaluations.

Abstract:
Reactions from individuals having high (>50%) and low (<50%) evaluations of their relative ability on a task are compared. Low evaluation individuals had lower self-esteem as compared to the high evaluation group. The low evaluation group also had lower self-efficacy on the task, set lower goals, and had a lower expectation that they would attain the goal than the high evaluation group. In addition, the low evaluation group had less positive attitudes and lower commitment toward attaining the goal. Perhaps as a consequence of the poor evaluations, the low evaluation group had lower task performance and continued to have lower self-esteem subsequent to task performance.

Abstract:
Accurate assessment of team performance in complex, dynamic systems is difficult, particularly teamwork such as Crew Resource Management (CRM) in aircraft. Seventy pilots from two fleets were evaluated as two-person crews by a Maneuver Validation (MV), which focused on proficiency on separate maneuvers, and by a Line Operational Evaluation (LOE), which focused on the crew flying a simulated line flight. Instructor/Evaluator (I/E) pilots helped design LOE content and a structured evaluation worksheet. I/E reliability training resulted in high evaluator agreement (average rwg = .80) and acceptable inter-rater correlations (average r = .54). Path analysis supported the assessment flow from Observable Behaviors to Technical and CRM performance to Captain (PIC), First Officer (SIC), and Crew evaluations for each event set. Fleet evaluations were different on the LOE assessment, but equivalent on the MV assessment. Detailed analysis of assessments also indicated a different role of the SIC across fleets. One fleet assessed SIC more on CRM performance and weighted SIC performance more in evaluating Crew performance. The other fleet assessed SIC on technical performance and weighted SIC performance less in evaluating Crew performance.

Abstract:
While achieving economic growth anddevelopment are dependent on the performance of the bureaucracy, there is a growing inability in Pakistan to objectivelyevaluate this performance. In this article, we examine performance evaluations systems that can be applied to developingcountry bureaucracies and find that the best system in the Pakistani context is the SMART performance evaluation system. We then analyze the present Pakistani system and compare it to an example of a SMART system and find that the disconnect between the actual performance of the civil service and the measurement of this performance by the performance evaluation report (PER) in Pakistan, has discouraged optimal performance. The article also looks at the perceptions of senior civil servants themselves on what they perceive as the shortcomings of the performance evaluation management system in Pakistan as well as their opinions on a potential SMART performance evaluations system. The article recommends an immediate re-evaluation of the present performance management where the re-evaluation initiatives must be tempered with the realization that the present system has been established not to optimize bureaucratic performance but rather to sustain the present system of patronage and power.
