Abstract:
Analyzing and understanding the performance behavior of parallel applicationson various compute infrastructures is a long-standing concern in the HighPerformance Computing community. When the targeted execution environments arenot available, simulation is a reasonable approach to obtain objectiveperformance indicators and explore various ''what-if?'' scenarios. In thiswork we present a framework for the off-line simulation of MPIapplications. The main originality of our work with regard to the literature is to rely on\tit execution traces. This allows for an extreme scalability as heterogeneousand distributed resources can be used to acquire a trace. We propose a formatwhere for each event that occurs during the execution of an application we logthe volume of instructions for a computation phase or the bytes and the type ofa communication. To acquire time-independent traces of the execution of MPI applications, wehave to instrument them to log the required data. There exist many profilingtools which can instrument an application. We propose a scoring system thatcorresponds to our framework specific requirements and evaluate the mostwell-known and open source profiling tools according to it. Furthermore weintroduce an original tool called Minimal Instrumentation that was designed tofulfill the requirements of our framework. We study different instrumentationmethods and we also investigate several acquisition strategies. We detail thetools that extract the \tit traces from the instrumentation traces of somewell-known profiling tools. Finally we evaluate the whole acquisition procedureand we present the acquisition of large scale instances. We describe in detail the procedure to provide a realistic simulated platformfile to our trace replay tool taking under consideration the topology of thereal platform and the calibration procedure with regard to the application thatis going to be simulated. Moreover we present the implemented trace replaytools that we used during this work. We show that our simulator can predictthe performance of some MPI benchmarks with less than 11\% relativeerror between the real execution and simulation for the cases that there is noperformance issue. Finally, we identify the reasons of the performance issuesand we propose solutions.

Abstract:
This research tests for correlation between corporate performance and use of financial measures, nonfinancial measures, and number of balanced scorecard categories used. Literature notes a preference for managing by nonfinancial measures because financial measures are lagging indicators, but little empirical evidence is available on the relationship between nonfinancial measures and financial performance, and few companies are found to realize the benefits of nonfinancial measurements. The balanced scorecard has been studied to find the impact of diversity of performance measures, and anecdotal improvements have been reported, but there is a paucity of empirical evidence regarding how the use of a balanced scorecard impacts organizational performance. These issues are investigated in this research with a web based survey distributed to a sample of publicly traded companies using a systematic selection process based on randomly selected numbers generated for each 3-digit NAICS category. The dependent variable is a rank of high, medium or low performance based on 12-month rolling average stock price comparisons from January 2005 to January 2009. These averages are analyzed as a percent change for each company, with performance standardized by 3-digit NAICS category to eliminate cross industry variance in performance ranking. Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA is used to test for correlation. High performers show greatest utilization of both financial and nonfinancial measures, followed by medium performers, with low performers utilizing both measures the least. Nonfinancial performance measures are more correlated to firm value than financial measures with the high performers' mean score for nonfinancial measures being higher than for financial measures. By contrast, medium and low performers exhibit the opposite: higher mean scores for financial measures than for nonfinancial measures [p ≤ 0.05 for nonfinancial measures and p ≤ 0.1 for financial measures]. Correlation is found to be borderline significant (p = 0.06) for the number of balanced scorecard categories used with high performers utilizing the highest number of categories and low performers utilizing the lowest number of categories [p = 0.009 with inclusion of two respondents reporting no usage of balanced scorecard categories].

Abstract:

Prediction is an interesting research topic. It is not only to predict the future result, but also to predict the past, often called validation. Applying prediction techniques to observed system behavior has always been extremely useful to understand the internals of the elements under analysis.

We have started this work to analyze the influence of several message passing application when running in parallel. The original objective was to find and propose a process scheduling algorithm that maximizes the system throughput, fair, proper system utilization.

In order to evaluate properly the different schedulers, it is necessary to use some tools. Dimemas and Paraver, conform the core of DiP environment. These tools has been designed ten years ago, but still valid and extensible.

Dimemas is a performance prediction tool. Using a single models, it capable to predict execution time for message passing applications, considering few system parameters for the system. It is useful not only to predict the result of an execution, but to understand the influence of the system parameters in the execution time of the application.

Paraver is the analysis tool of DiP environment. It allows the analysis of applications and system from several points of view: analyzing messages, contention in the interconnection network, processor scheduling.

Promenvir/ST-ORM is a stochastic analysis tool. It incorporates facilities to analyze the influence of any parameter in the system, as well as to tune the simulation parameters, so the prediction is close to reality.

The methodology on how to use these tools as a group to analyze the whole environment, and the fact that all those tools are State of the Art, demonstrates the quality of the decisions we made some years ago.

This work includes description of the different tools, from its internal design to some external utilization, the validation of Dimemas, the concept design of Promenvir, the architecture for Promenvir, the presentation of the methodology used with these tools (for simple application analysis to complex system analysis), and some of our first analyses on processor scheduling policies.

Traffic anomaly detection in backbone networks has received increased at-tention from the research community over the last years. A variety of tech-niques and implementations has been proposed in this area, some which hasbecome commercial products. However, studies have revealed that theseproducts are hardly used, mainly because of high false-positive rates andthe fact that manual inspection of alarms is a time consuming task for thenetwork administrator.Senatus is a recently proposed technique for combined anomaly detectionand root-cause analysis, originally proposed by Atef Abdelkefi. In this the-sis, we provide a complete high-performance implementation of Senatus, including a web Dashboard with overview of anomalies and the possibil-ity for manual fine-tuning of parameters. Furthermore, we have verifiedSenatus performance by comparing Senatus with a implementation of awell-known histogram-based anomaly detection technique. Our results show that Senatus performs very well for detection scans, andthat it matches the histogram-based anomaly detector for Denial of Service-attacks.

Abstract:
Context. There have been a lot of progress made in the field of pathfinding. One of the most used algorithms is A*, which over the years has had a lot of variations. There have been a number of papers written about the variations of A* and in what way they specifically improve A*. However, few papers have been written comparing A* with several different variations of A*. Objectives. The objectives of this thesis is to find how Dijkstra's algorithm, IDA*, Theta* and HPA* compare against A* based on the variables computation time, number of opened nodes, path length as well as number of path nodes. Methods. To find the answers to the question in Objectives, an experiment was set up where all the algorithms were implemented and tested over a number of maps with varying attributes. Results. The experimental data is compiled in a table showing the result of the tested algorithms for computation time, number of opened nodes, path length and number of path nodes over a number of different maps as well as the average performance over all maps. Conclusions. A* is shown to perform well overall, with Dijkstra's algorithm trailing shortly behind in computation time and expanded nodes. Theta* finds the best path, with overall good computation time marred by a few spikes on large, open maps. HPA* performs poorly overall when fully computed, but has by far the best computation time and node expansion when partially pre-computed. IDA* finds the same paths as A* and Dijkstra's algorithm but has a notably worse computation time than the other algorithms and should generally be avoided on octile grid maps.

Abstract:
Nowadays most Desktop based softwares, operating system (OS) and applications features are being adapted to Smartphones (SMPs). The simplicity and mobility of SMPs are some of the qualities which make them interesting to run different network applications. In order to develop mobile applications with efficient functionality and competitive in marketability, application developers need to have knowledge on network performance of SMPs. In this thesis, an experimental based methodology is provided to evaluate the effect of transmission patterns on One Way Delay (OWD), throughput and packet loss across designed setup for different SMPs. Based on these metrics the SMPs have been compared with each other under the same experimental setting with relatively higher accuracy of measurement techniques. For accurate measurement DAG 3.6E card together with GPS for synchronization is used to capture traffic for further analysis. To avoid undeterministic inputs in the network, the experiment is made to be in a controlled and continuously monitored wireless local area network. Moreover the nodes or sub networks constituting the entire network are evaluated to conceive the effects on the estimated output. From this work application developers will have the opportunity to design their application according to the network performance of SMPs and users are also able to select suitable applications and SMPs.

The design of spanning systems is a common task that structural engineers perform, and beam theory is one of the first things taught in a mechanics course. This thesis studies a range of spanning systems, and evaluates their performance in a systematic way. The systems considered are beams, trusses, funicular structures, and cable-stayed systems. The first part of the thesis examines system selection by evaluating the limits to each structural system and the relative efficiency of structural systems at different spans, depths, and loading constraints. In the second part, dynamic performance and global buckling are investigated to determine their influence on the performance of beams and trusses. These failure mechanisms should be examined early in the design process, but similar types of studies rely only on static behavior to evaluate performance. The third part analyzes the effect of the length-to-depth ratio on the performance of beams and trusses. In conceptual design, rules of thumb for this ratio are used as a starting point, but may not always be appropriate depending on the situation. Finally, the effect of design constraints on the performance of beams and trusses are studied. Depending on the situation, these design constraints may negatively affect the spanning system's performance. Specifically, the constraints of deflection, local buckling, uniform sizing of truss members, and support conditions are explored.

Abstract:
Blockchain is a distributed ledger with records of transactions made between accounts stored in it through blocks. This type of technology is becoming a part of our daily lives, due to its secure, immutable, verifiable and transparent nature. One relevant aspect of blockchain is that of smart contracts, these are very important and useful because they can automatically carry out certain actions based on what was written in its code. Transactions which should be carried out under specific conditions can be done more effectively by using a smart contract, which explicitly incorporates those conditions in its code. Since smart contracts are so critical, it is very important to make the correct decision when choosing a high-level language to use to code these agreements. Different languages that essentially do the same thing, can compile to a completely different set of instructions. The objective of this dissertation is to compare the performance of different smart contract high-level languages, set to carry out the same goal. We will compare languages from the Tezos and Ethereum blockchains. Different languages will produce different low-level code, some of which will be more efficient, as they will require less resources such as gas; Sumário: Avaliação do Desempenho de Smart Contracts Blockchain é um registo distribuído com documentações das transações feitas entre contas guardadas nele através de blocos.

Kaminski, Nicholas James. "Performance Evaluation of Cognitive Radios." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/32092.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents a performance evaluation system for cognitive radio. It considers per- formance as a complex, multi-dimensional function. Typically such a function would take some record of actions as an argument; however, a key contribution of this work is the addition of background information to the domain of the performance function. Including this information generalizes the performance function across many radios and applications, with the additional cost of complicating the domain. Thus the presented evaluation system organizes the domain information into sets. These sets are divided into two categories, one capturing necessary information that is external to the radio and on capturing necessary information that internal to the radio. These categories highlight the fact that neither the true actions nor the true performance is directly observable at the onset of evaluation. This arises because a cognitive radio can only express its actions in terms of the available knobs and meters, which together form the radioâ s language. Some understanding of this language and its limitations is required to fully understand the radioâ s expression of its actions. This parallelism of actions and performance suggests implementing the evaluation method as a composite form of the performance function. The composite performance function is made up of two sub-functions, one of which producing action information and one of which pro- ducing performance information. Specifically, the first sub-function is used to determine general measures of the actionsâ influence on performance; these are labeled Measures of Effectiveness. The second sub-function uses these Measures of Effectiveness to determine application specific performance values, called Measures of Performance. This work covers both these measures in detail. Each measure is determined as the result of a neural network based interpolation. This thesis also provides an examination of artificial neural networks in the scope of performance evaluation. Once these concepts are explored, a walk-through evaluation is presented. The four phases are the Setup Phase, the Logging Phase, the Train- ing Phase, and the Evaluation Phase. Each phase is structured to provide the information necessary to determine the final performance. These phases detail the process of evaluation and discuss the realization of concepts explored earlier. This work concludes with a compar- ative evaluation example that proves the worth of the presented approach. A full evaluation system is outlined by this thesis and the foundational details for the system are explored in detail.

Chan, Joshua. "PV array simulator performance evaluation." Thesis, Chan, Joshua (2011) PV array simulator performance evaluation. Other thesis, Murdoch University, 2011. https://researchrepository.murdoch.edu.au/id/eprint/6843/.

Abstract:
This dissertation evaluates the performance of a 25kW PV Array Simulator based on a design from Prof. Heinrich Haberlin and his staff from the PV laboratory of the Berne University of Applied Sciences, in Burgdorf, Switzerland. The simulator was set up and is operated by ResLab, based at Murdoch University. The device has a power rating of 25kW, an open circuit voltage of up to 750V, and a short circuit current of up to 40A. The design and concept of the simulator replicates the operations of an actual PV array. Incorporated in its controls are eight IV curves of different fill factors that were configured to portray different cell technologies. The development of such a test device was initiated when PV applications such as inverters required a device that could repeatedly produce consistent testing conditions, as well as a platform that could perform precise MPPT measurements. First the study goes into understanding the control options of the simulator in terms of its IV curve production abilities. The initial familiarization stage was conducted with technical manuals and a brief session with Andrew Ruscoe who was involved in the development of the simulator. Through that and further research, it was comprehended that the Main Control, which is the control responsible for all IV curve generations, is designed electronically to follow the single diode model circuit of the PV array. A mathematical aspect has been included in the thesis to confirm the operation of Main Control. Designers of the simulator expanded on this theory by utilising individual sets of diode strings with different configurations, which developed certain fill factors when a voltage is applied. Operation of the PV Array Simulator commenced after the understanding of the controls was established. The eight IV curves of varying fill factors were captured and observed. As part of the study, the curves were classified against the three most common cell technologies. The performance of the simulator was evaluated using different test conditions to observe its stability. It was proven through these tests, as well as documentations from past tests that the simulator was very stable even when it was made to operate at its threshold limit. As the varying fill factors were obtained by the different configuration of diode strings, a study was focused on developing a basis or pattern associated with the formation of different classifications of diodes in series. The diode strings found in the simulator were replicated and reverse engineered.

Abstract:
Transit agencies aim to allocate limited resources properly and maximise ridership. Measuring the performance of individual transit routes within a transit system plays a critical role in identifying operational issues and increasing transit ridership. Addressing this need, this research develops a framework to evaluate operational effectiveness and spatial and temporal performance of individual bus routes within a transit network. With case study on Brisbane a network Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model is adopted for efficiency analysis, and the double bootstrap model is applied for sensitivity analysis of DEA efficiency scores obtained to external factors. The developed framework enables transit agencies to evaluate and rank the performance of given bus routes, and then identify both internal and external sources of inefficiency. This should lead to better public transport design and operations.

In our three years of work, we have achieved the realization of a Firing unit board with the GaN and driver in a system in package. Three different boards were realized: A first board with only the resistor, the second one with the resistor and a shunt resistor and a third board with the laser diode and a shunt resistor. A DC-DC was realized for the supply while a control unit was realized for the control of the input signals of the driver.Unfortunately, no measurements of the firing unit have been done yet as we are still waiting for the chip to be completed. The DC-DC and the control unit board have been measured and tested. LIDAR application is the most attractive and efficient solution for this market. The challenges of LIDAR application consist in the development of the electronics generating a current pulse of 50A that lasts for less than 5ns. The technical area of this activity is fully autonomous self-driving car, and in particular what helps an autonomous vehicle to understand the world around it.

Performance evaluation of Globe’s location service is becoming necessary in order to help steer development in the right direction. In this paper I put the current implementation of the location service to work and design and setup a number of tests with input data from a mobile phone environment provided by the Stanford University Mobile Activity Traces (SUMATRA). It turns out that the implementation is not ready for performance evaluation of this scale after all, and that no performance evaluation can be done with SUMATRA since too many inconsistencies are to be found in that data.

Abstract:
In this thesis, a queuing model for an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) based Multiplexing node is developed. In this model, it is assumed that no cell queuing is done within the multiplexer for the purpose of transmission at a later time. This introduces higher cell loss but simplifies the multiplexing (switching) algorithm which is key to ATM. This also gives constant cell delays per network node. The total network delay suffered by a cell is the sum of propagation delay, and cell transmission and buffering delay within each node the cell traverses. A closed form analytical solution is derived for the above described model and ATM cell loss probabilities (or cell blocking probabilities) are computed for a multiplexer assuming identical sources at the input. This enables us to estimate the bandwidth gain for various levels of cell loss probabilities. The model is also extended to include non-identical traffic sources and multimedia sources at the input of the multiplexer. The cell loss probabilities are studied for these cases as well. Abstract:
Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is special kind of wireless network which does not have any fixed structure. They are paired for specific purpose within some concise time period. As the concept of “Micro Products” with a feature of “Mobility” has gain popularity, the MANET has benefited the mankind in many ways and in number of situations such as Natural Disaster, War Zone, and Medical Camp in far-flung Earthquake hit areas etc. In every situation mobile nodes organized themselves on temporary bases in network topology. Autonomous nodes having wireless infrastructure are interconnected to form an autonomous network and easily establish a connection from one place to another. These mobile nodes act either as routers or as a host. These nodes have routing capabilities for multi hop paths through which these are interconnected. The mobility of nodes needs efficient routing for MANET. So therewith, Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) enhances routing with respect to path and packet forwarding. In our thesis we try to analyze the various effects of MPLS on MANET protocols when integrated with MPLS. Simulations were carried out using OPNET modeler 14.5 for analyzing the MPLS effects on the metrics like route discovery time, packet end-to-end delay and throughput. Moreover case study is also included to present a conceptual model for integrating MPLS with MANET protocols.

Abstract:
Solar energy is today one of the most important sources of renewable energy, it is an environmentally friendly and unlimited source that can be used anywhere in the world. There are several different types of solar collectors and methods to harness solar energy, however this project focuses on flat plate collectors used for water heating systems.   This project aims to evaluate how the operational parameters, mass flow rate and tilt angle, affect the thermal efficiency of a flat plate solar collector. A theoretical model has been concluded in Microsoft Excel 2011 in order to determine the performance of the collector. Furthermore a minor field study has been conducted in Sri Lanka, where a simple solar water system has been built. This consisted of a flat plate collector without an absorber plate and glazing. From this warm water system, experimental measurements have been extracted and employed in the theoretical model.   The result of the project shows that the mass flow rate had a large impact on the collector’s efficiency, however the tilt angle did not. After comparing the results with existing studies on collector performances it was discovered that the tilt angle should affect the efficiency to a greater extent. It was discussed that the result of this project may show a false representation of the tilt angle because of too small changes being made when taking the readings. The average efficiency of the studied collector was 35%, which is considerable less than the average efficiency of a typical flat plate collector. It has been acknowledged, however, that the studied flat plate collector has all the thermal losses, convection, conduction and radiation, as it lacks absorber plate, glazing material and insulation, thus the low average efficiency value.   The influencing parameters have been studied in relation to the global irradiance and it has been concluded that the global irradiance has a direct impact on both the mass flow rate and the tilt angle. Since historical averaged data has been used for the global irradiance it is not possible to obtain exact values for the efficiency, hence causing uncertainties in the results.

Abstract:
Today, some kind of laboratory results is required for around 70% of the diagnostics and follow-ups for diseases. In many of the cases the time from sampling to a result is very critical. Therefore the discussion of how to improve this situation has begun. For many analyses serum has been the routine choice for a long time but now it is disputed. After blood collection in a serum tube it is essential to wait 30-60 minutes before centrifugation and analysis of the sample, a long time for someone in an acute state. Other problems like post centrifugation clots of fibrin causing false results or time-consuming reruns of the sample have also been reported. These problems have initiated the laboratory in Hudiksvall’s hospital to find out an alternative to the common serum sampling. In this report, the differences between serum and lithium heparin plasma for 31 analyses has been evaluated. Paired blood samples, one serum and one plasma, were collected for routine, hormonal and for tumor markers analyses and analyzed in a Cobas c501, e411 or e601 (ROCHE). The results of the analyzed samples were compared to each other by statistical analysis. The results prove that serum and lithium heparin plasma is equal for ALT, GGT, NT-proBNP, FT3, FT4, cobalamin, LH, prolactin, TSH, CA19-9, CEA and PSA. The results also prove that serum and lithium heparin plasma is not equal for 19 other analyses. Therefore, a shift between different types of sampling is not to be recommended without further evaluations.

Ward, Errolinda A. "Linking trust and performance evaluation style." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2011. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/2674/.

Full text
Abstract:
Researchers have long called for broader perspectives of performance evaluation style (Ferreira and Otley, 2009; Noeverman and Koene, 2005; Hartmann, 2000; Vagneur and Peiperl, 2000). Trust is relevant to performance evaluation and meaningful to other aspects of management control. However, little research exists on the relationship between trust and aspects of management control (Hartmann & Slapnicar, 2009; Noeverman, 2007). The primary purpose of this thesis is to explore the linkage between trust and performance evaluation style from a multidimensional perspective. Evaluation style encompasses perceptions of use at three stages of the evaluation process (i.e. target-setting, evaluating, and rewarding). Similarly, trust encompasses perceptions of beliefs about self, beliefs about other, and behavioural outcomes in the superior-subordinate relationship. This thesis reports on a field study conducted within subsidiaries of two multinational firms in the financial services industry. The study of trust and performance evaluation style followed an innovative middle range research approach. Using vignettes and probing questions in semi-structured in-depth interviews, meanings around the constructs of trust and performance evaluation style were elicited. Such a multidimensional context-specific perspective answers calls for further development within both literatures, and therefore contributes to a better theoretical understanding of how evaluation style is linked to trust. The results of the research project reveal a bi-directional association between trust and performance evaluation style. In so doing, it highlights contributions towards further theory development through relating performance evaluation style as influential to trust, and likewise, trust as influential to performance evaluation style. Moreover, trust and performance evaluation style can be both complements and substitutes. A theoretical matrix is also developed which provides useful insight into the potential linkages. Additionally, this thesis shows the importance of context and functional role in defining individual perceptions on trust and evaluation style.

ABSTRACT The construction of public works is the foundation of national economy development and the sign of social progress. Beyond lead the sustained economics growth, also could to lift the quality of life. Therefore, the quality of execution and management of public construction affects not only the success of construction project, but also the performance and image of the government. According the information from Executive Yuan, it is generally recognized that most of the major constructions involve common denominators such as budget overrun, delayed completion and poor quality. And the lack of effective tool for performance appraisal in prevalent approach of project management generates some more difficulties to the implementation of public construction. In view of the reason, this study is based upon the theory of performance evaluation, through questionnaire and the twelve construction project case studies. focused on the characteristic of public construction and implementation performance evaluation fact require, fabrication a performance evaluation model which including the following major parameters: the cost/schedule control system criteria ,executive process, environment impact, as well as the construction quality assessment. The Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to grow in the upcoming years. LoRaWAN is one promising Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) standard proposed for IoT widely adopted across the world. It runs on unlicensed spectrum and was designed to carry sporadic traffic. This dissertation analyses the performance of LoRaWAN in extreme conditions, where peak traffic loads occur in the network. It starts by evaluating the Network Simulator 3 (ns- 3) LoRaWAN module, identifying and correcting their implementation. In a second phase, it evaluates the limitations of the class A LoRaWAN access protocol during synchronized peaks of traffic, and proposes a new access algorithm to improve the reliability and reduce the latency.

Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (MOSFET) has been widely used in ULSI semiconductor technology. The major advantages of MOSFET are high yield, low cost, dense packing, and low power consumption. The carrier mobility in the inversion charge layer of MOSFET has become increasingly important as device scale down to deep submicron due to its deterministic property in drain current. Therefore, the inversion-layer mobility is a vital important parameter to understand the mechanisms of charge transport in the surface inversion layer. In this thesis, we measure the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of n-MOSFET with the gate lengths of 10μm and 4μm. A simple model is used to extract the effective carrier mobility (μeff) with respect to the gate voltage (VG). Our results show that the change of the mobility is strongly dependent on the gate bias, and its trend agrees well in comparison to other theoretical and experimental works. In the region of small VG, the mobility is mainly determined by impurity scattering, but the increase of surface roughness scattering in high field region instead of the role of impurity becomes a deterministic factor in mobility degradation. The fitting model proposed in the thesis enables reliable values in the changes of mobility, effective oxide capacitance, doping concentration, and threshold voltage with respect to the gate bias.

In this paper , we measure the I-V characteristics of the p-MOSFETs with the gate lengths of 4μm and 10μm, and apply a simple model to extract the change of mobility with respect to the gate voltage. Our results show that the changes of the mobility for both p-MOSFETs are strongly dependent on the gate bias due to the interplay of interface roughness scattering, ionized impurity scattering, and the change of density-of-state. The strength of the impurity scattering is reduced by increasing VG due to the decrease of density of state, and the screening effect in increasing the carrier density, which results to the increase of mobility. However, the increasing VG enhances the interface roughness scattering, and results to the mobility degradation. Moreover, an anomaly around VG ~ 1.1V is observed in the plot of the mobility with respect to the gate bias. It is mainly attributed to the change of the oxide charge as the gate bias crossover 1.1V.

Gandra, Ana Filipa Neto. "The performance of dominant companies : portfolio performance evaluation." Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.14/31878.

Abstract:
Several studies look at the relationship between market share and rate of return, but there isn’t a consensus about the topic. I studied the particular case of companies that dominate their sector, with the goal of discovering if they outperformed the market. If these companies actually performed better than the market, I would have discovered a good investment strategy. I used OLS regression and Newey-West standard errors to find out the abnormal returns of the portfolios of dominant companies I constructed. The results using OLS regression were, in general, statistically non-significant, which indicated that investing in dominant companies doesn’t seem to be a good investment strategy, as it doesn’t have any advantage when compared to investing in the market. However, I obtained significant results by using Newey-West standard errors. The alphas’ estimations were positive, but very low, indicating that investing in dominant companies is only slightly better than investing in the market portfolio. Nevertheless, I think it is important to conduct more studies about this matter, as it is possible to obtain a better sample and look at the problem from various angles.
