Abstract:
SummaryThis study has proposed to highlight the relevant aspects related to attitude, how to interpret and understanding sport performance and spiritual performance and values around them. The overall objective of the survey was to obtain data on people's perceptions of the spiritual and athletic performance and to formulate some conclusions. The specific objectives were: Identification of key elements of people's attitudes towards the researched topic. Identifying key issues about performance and image in the two areas. Study the quality of perceptions. Identification of indicators on educational features. In conclusion we have identified some key points about the image of athletic performance and spiritual performance. Most cognitive values and perceptions are dominated by visualization and verbalization attributes. We identified educational characteristics - perceptual experiences are formed, influenced and directed educational environments: family, community, school, church and media. Spiritual and sports performance have multiple implications, individual and social, which go beyond the strict environment in which the case and their perception may be a means of education and training. Trouble perception moral responsibility must be attributed primarily to educational environments and not as individuals.

Abstract:
Abstract The distinction between positive and negative perceptions is fundamental in perception models. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between field perceptions of table tennis players and the outcome (net result) during the matches in a competition. Experimental data were collected from 10 elite table tennis players and analysed. The results addressed the following three competition field perceptions: (1) before the service, the player’s positive perceptions had significant effect on the positive outcome (winning rate) of that service; (2) the perception after the net result of the previous service increased the positive outcome of the next service, and (3) the player’s positive/negative perception during the matches affected the win/loss outcome of that competition. In conclusion, the player’s positive perceptions enhanced their winning rate during table tennis competitions. Therefore, during the training program, coaches need to develop positive perceptions and strengthen the psychological quality of table tennis players.

Abstract:
The paper presents a review of the literature and advances a set of propositions concerning the employees’ perceptions on the relationship between human resource management and organizational performance. The study is aimed at filling the gap in the literature on the employees’ perception regarding human resource policies and the relationship to organizational performance. Social information processing theory is used to advance the insights on how employees’ performance about human resource policies may influence the organizational performance. The review indicated that there is a positive relationship between the employees’ perceptions of human resource policies and overall performance of a given organization. A positive perception of the implemented policies influences various individual outcomes such as commitment, engagement, and satisfaction, amongst others. Shared perceptions among the employees are also considered to have a considerable impact on the organizational performance. Nevertheless, there is a need for further research to explore the relationship between human resource management and organizational performance in more detail.

Abstract:
OBK is the company's acquisition in 2013. This acquisition led to a change in the managerial rank that influence new policies were implemented company. New policy of employee development as an effort to increase the performance of the company. This study aimed to analyze the perception of Workshop division employee of accomplished trainings at OBK Company and their improved performance after the training. This study analyze the relationship between the respondents perceptions towards accomplished training activities and the perceptions towards performance after the training. The perception data were processed using an average test score, the correlation using Pearson’s rank test and training Need Assessment Tool (TNA-T) to analyze the employee training needed. The results showed that the perception of production and PPIC subdivisions are satisfied with the training organized by the company and the perception of Maintenance and QC subdivision are quite satisfied. Perception on the improved performance of Production, QC and PPIC subdivisions after the training is increased on the average. Meanwhile the performance of Maintenance subdivision is enough. The relationship between the variables of training and improved performance in Production, PPIC, QC and Maintenance subdivision has a positive direction. This shows that the higher the perception of the training, the higher the perception of improved performance. A strong and significant relationship between training and improved performance are on Production, QC and PPIC subdivisions. Respondent perceptions on these subdivisions are high on the average. On the Maintenance subdivision, the relationship is low and not significant between training and performance. Low relationship is assumed to occur because the assessments of respondents tend to vary on the training variable. The result of TNA tools that training is required by all respondents but not urgent.

Abstract:
PurposeA perception gap refers to the differences in perception among the stakeholders regarding any aspect of the supply chain relationship. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the perception gap among service supply chain partners relating to the relative importance of key performance indicators (KPIs) and the association of this gap with service performance.Design/methodology/approachThis paper presents an integrative framework that combines statistical methods and data envelopment analysis for computing perception and performance gaps, and for identifying the association between the gaps. The study follows a middle-range theorizing research approach where general inferences are induced from instances, and a theory can be developed from the observation of empirical reality.FindingsAnalysis of data from a leading global insurance service supply chain suggests that perception gap exists and can be recognised as a factor associated with performance gaps. The results suggest that the perception gap not only affects performance but can also be tracked as a meta-KPI to improve performance throughout the service supply chain.Practical implicationsThe key implication of the presented research is that service companies can identify and resolve the differences in perceptions regarding the importance of the KPIs, by methodologically computing the gaps and tracking them as meta-KPIs.Originality/valueThe study extends the theoretical boundary of supply chain performance management by introducing the perception and performance gaps as novel meta-KPIs. These meta-KPIs can be computed through the integrative framework developed in the study.

Based on a study of leader communication effectiveness conducted in a large human resource outsourcing firm, this article reports how virtual team members’ perceptions of their leaders’ effective use of communication tools and techniques affect team performance outcomes. The study also investigates the role that trust plays in moderating the relationship between virtual team members’ perceptions of their leaders’ effective use of communication and team performance. Analysis of 458 responses from 68 teams found a positive relationship between virtual team members’ perceptions of leaders’ effective use of communications and team members’ perception of their team’s performance. The study also found that trust strengthens the relationship between perceived leader communication effectiveness and team performance results. Last, the study also revealed serious organizational alignment issues between what team members perceived to be effective leader communication, their perception of team performance outcomes, and the organizations performance measured by a balanced scorecard.

Abstract:
People are known to naturally segment meaningful units of activity into individual events. Though an influential body of work demonstrating the relationship between event perception and human performance in daily tasks does exist, less consideration has been given to ideas that event perception can shape driving performance. This paper offers an introduction to event perception for the transportation community with a study measuring drivers’ perceptions for events in simulated driving scenes. The results demonstrate consistency in drivers’ perceptions of events and that specific features of a driving scene can predict event boundaries. This study also provides some evidence for a relationship between event perception and driving skill as measured by driving frequency. Discussed are the study’s implications to predict and shape the cognitive performance of drivers, along with potential benefits for driver training programs.

Energy demand in buildings can be reduced by improving energy efficiency. MS1525 has recommended that energy efficiency for Non-Residential Buildings in Malaysia to be not more than 135kWh/m²/year. A school building is a non-residential building and has major social responsibilities. Based on the theory of building energy-efficiency, energy efficiency can be achieved through three main factors: a) design of buildings; b) design of services; and c) user behavior. This study aims to investigate the user perceptions in High-Performance Schools. The questionnaire viewed three main perceptions of users: perception of user behavior, the perception of building design and perception of services design.© 2016. The Authors. Abstract:
This study analyses the risk-taking propensity of male and female entrepreneurs. Primary data were collected from a sample of 400 randomly selected from among the small and medium scale entrepreneurs in Roodepoort and two structured questionnaires were used. The results showed the existence of differences among male and female entrepreneurs’ risk-taking perceptions. However, no significant differences in the mean scores between males and females in the financial and social domains of risk taking perception were found. The results further indicate that there is a significant difference in the means of the entrepreneurs with regard to their overall risk-taking perception in the ethical domain of risk-taking perception, health and safety risk-taking perception, recreational risk-taking perception as well as their business performance perceptions. The study also suggests that there is no correlation between business performance and risk-taking in entrepreneurs. The study highlights that there is no evidence to suggest that risk-taking in different genders plays a role as an indicator in business performance.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop a model in which leadership styles (transformational or transactional leadership) directly and indirectly (through occupation perception) affect teacher performance (in-role performance and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB)). Design/methodology/approach The research hypothesis holds that the leadership style (transformational or transactional) has a direct and indirect effect on teacher performance (through occupation perception). These hypotheses have been tested on data collected from 630 Arab Israeli teachers. Findings Teachers’ in-role performance increases as they perceive their principals’ leadership style as more transformational and less transactional. In addition, the results reveal that the effect of transformational principals’ leadership style on OCB is expressed only by indirect effect (through occupational perception). Originality/value The results of the study contribute to the understanding of the way leadership style and performance interact in schools, and the importance of teachers’ occupational perception in explaining this relationship. Future research should further investigate the teachers’ occupational perceptions and its effect on their performance as little research has been conducted to date.

AbstractThis research examined the validity of Performance Environment Perception Scales (PEPS), a new instrument designed to assess performance-relevant aspects of the work environment. A sample of 156 employees of an Australian university completed PEPS and their supervisors rated their task and citizenship performance. Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed PEPS to have a valid factor structure, and PEPS were found to be significantly correlated with citizenship performance, but not with task performance. Although this finding is consistent with theoretical predictions, PEPS are apparently the first measures of work environment perceptions that have confirmed this. Thus PEPS show promise as measures for use in future research and organizational development projects that focus on relationships between the work environment and performance. Abstract:
Previous studies support the relevance of students' perception of positive and negative school climate to learning processes and adolescents' adjustment. School climate is affected by both the interactions that are established within the classroom, and by the teachers' behaviors. This study has the overall objective of investigating the relationship between the perception of positive and negative school climate and students' (mal)adjustment during adolescence. Participants were 105 Italian adolescents (52.5% boys, mean age = 15.56,SD = .77) who responded for 15 consecutive days (ecological momentary assessment) to questions related to their perception of positive and negative school climate (Time 1). After one year (Time 2), students' academic performance reported by mothers and fathers and adolescents' self-reported propensity to engage in risk behaviors were examined. Four hierarchical regression models were implemented considering the mean and the instability levels (RMSSD) of the perception of positive and negative school climate as independent variables and, respectively, academic performance and risk behaviors as dependent variables. Results suggest that a higher perception of positive school climate and its instability predict higher academic performance one year later, while a higher perception of negative school climate and its instability predict higher risk behaviors. This study provides an innovative perspective to reflect on the relationship between students' perceptions of school climate and adolescents' (mal)adjustment.

Abstract:
When perceiving the visual environment, people simultaneously perceive their own direction and position in the environment (i.e., egocentric spatial perception). This study investigated what visual information in a scene is necessary for egocentric spatial perceptions. In two perception tasks (the egocentric direction and position perception tasks), observers viewed two static road images presented sequentially. In Experiment 1, the critical manipulation involved an occluded region in the road image, an extrapersonal region (far-occlusion) and a peripersonal region (near-occlusion). Egocentric direction perception was worse in the far-occlusion condition than in the no-occlusion condition, and egocentric position perceptions were worse in the far- and near-occlusion conditions than in the no-occlusion condition. In Experiment 2, we conducted the same tasks manipulating the observers’ gaze location in a scene—an extrapersonal region (far-gaze), a peripersonal region (near-gaze) and the intermediate region between the former two (middle-gaze). Egocentric direction perception performance was the best in the far-gaze condition, and egocentric position perception performances were not different among gaze location conditions. These results suggest that egocentric direction perception is based on fine visual information about the extrapersonal region in a road landscape, and egocentric position perception is based on information about the entire visual scene.

Abstract:
Purpose – Concerns about the effectiveness of performance management systems (PMS) have long-driven researchers and practitioners to explore ways of measuring it. It is imperative for organizations to understand, how employees perceive the effectiveness of their PMS, for positive employee outcomes. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to explore the operationalization of the construct “employee perception of PMS effectiveness” (PMSE). An evidence of construct validity for the “two-factor PMS effectiveness” measure with perceived “PMS accuracy” and “PMS fairness” as its two factors is provided. In addition, a scale to measure “employee perception of PMS accuracy” is developed. Design/methodology/approach – Mixed-methods research methodology. Findings – Findings confirmed the possible existence of the two-factor PMSE construct, with PMS accuracy and fairness as its factors. Construct validity is established through its correlations with important outcome variables. The development of a valid and reliable 12-item scale for perceived PMS accuracy (Cronbach α value=0.83) is an additional key contribution. Research limitations/implications – The research presents opportunities for future empirical studies to examine the influence of PMS accuracy and effectiveness on employee outcomes (engagement, retention, etc.). Researchers may also cross-validate the PMSE measure in different socio-cultural contexts. Practical implications – The perceived PMS accuracy and effectiveness measures can serve as powerful investigative tools to measure employee perceptions regarding PMS. It can help organizations identify and correct the shortcomings in their existing PMS. Originality/value – This is the first paper to offer a cogent conceptualization and operationalization of employee perceptions of PMS accuracy and effectiveness. Hence, it has key implications for academics and practitioners.

Abstract:
The present study intended to investigate the perception of teacher educators about professional conduct and ethics and its relationship with the academic performance of the students. There were 29 government colleges for elementary teachers. 90 teacher educators and 220 students were selected using a convenient sampling technique.Data was collected from teacher educators with the help of a questionnaire having five points rating scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree. To investigate the perceptions of teacher educators, measures of central tendency were used. To analyze perceptions of teacher educators on a gender basis, a t-test was applied. To find out the relationship between the perception of teacher educators about professional conduct and ethics and students' academic performance, a coefficient of correlation was applied using a statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Findings demonstrated that teacher educators showed their agreement towards professional conduct and ethics. There was found significant difference between the perception of male and female teacher educators about professional conduct and ethics. The relationship between teacher educators' perception of professional conduct and ethics and students' academic performance was found statistically significant.

Abstract:
This study aims to discuss the perceptions of auditors and auditees on public sector performance audits. This study analyzes how social processes and interactions are both in the performance audit process. They are in case of changes in the auditor's role in the future, which have the potential to cause problems of independence. The other is that the benefits and impacts of performance audit results have not been felt significantly. By using a qualitative approach, this study analyzes how the perceptions and relations of the two actors in the performance audit. In-depth and structured interview techniques are used as data collection methods from participants from auditors and auditees. Auditee's response was also analyzed to determine the extent of their resistance to the actions of auditors and their perception of the benefits of performance audits. The results of the study show that performance audits have not given a significant impact on policy performance improvements. There are differences in perceptions about expectations for the role of the auditor and the provision of recommendations that are more solutive. A significant difference in perception is also shown in the auditor's understanding of the auditee's business processes. It is due to the issues in the auditor's qualifications and experience that are influenced by their educational background. Other findings are the potential disruption of auditor independence due to lack of operationalization of the concept of independence and the amount of pressure from the auditee.

Abstract:
Purpose The literature so far has shown that perceptions of managerial interventions matter for motivation and performance. However, how these perceptions are formed and develop over time is less clear. The purpose of this paper is to fill part of this gap. Design/methodology/approach The paper uses a panel case study to investigate how perceptions of a managerial intervention are formed and developed over time among daycare workers in a Danish municipality. Findings The paper reveals the dynamic nature of preferences and the centrality of the local manager in perception formation, illustrating that it is not necessarily the implementation style (soft/hard) that is important as much as the managerial involvement in the initiative. Practical implications Whereas managers are still well advised to consider the pros and cons of a hard vs a soft implementation approach, this paper also underlines the importance of constant managerial involvement not only to ensure implementation but also to continuously impact the way managerial interventions are perceived. Originality/value The paper adds to the existing knowledge about perception formation by using a panel case study, hence illustrating the dynamic character of perception formation.

Abstract:
The perception of organizational politics seriously affects working people, and it is an unavoidable detrimental aspect of an organization. Prior studies are focused on the detrimental consequences of perceived organizational politics and not paid attention to its remedial actions. Therefore, proper intervention as a corrective action for the harmful effect of organizational politics perception was essential. Hence, this study was motivated to know: (a) the effect of the perception of organizational politics on employees’ performance, and (b) the mitigating role of impression management (self-promotion and ingratiation) for the detrimental effect of perception of organizational politics on work performance. Perceptual cross-sectional data was taken from 725 employees working in Nepalese banks. Quantitative data analysis revealed that perception of organizational politics has a detrimental impact on employee performance; impression management (self-promotion and ingratiation) worked as an antidote for such effects. The study’s unique findings were a different form of association of perception of organizational politics with work performance under the different situations of impression management (self-promotion and ingratiation). Moreover, those employees were less suffered from the perceived organizational politics who were good in impression management (self-promotion and ingratiation). Impression management (self-promotion and ingratiation) is controlled, as an antidote, comparatively more effectively for the high poli-tics perceiver than the low perceiver. Numbers of theoretical and practical implications are suggested to cure perceived organizational politics’ detrimental outcomes on employee performance. Abstract. In this study, we investigated the interaction effects between honesty-humility and two contextual perception variables (perceptions of organizational politics and perceptions of interactional justice) on two dimensions of job performance (task performance and organizational citizenship behavior). In a multiple rater design, we dissociated the assessments of the contextual perception variables (rated by target employees), personality traits (rated by colleagues), and job performance (rated by supervisors) from each other. We expected employees lower in honesty-humility to adapt their behavior according to the perceived context, whereas employees higher in honesty-humility were expected to perform equally well irrespective of the perceived environment. Results supported the hypothesized interactions in general.

Abstract:
Governmental performance is important for maintaining the public’s political trust. This article examines the moderating role of the popular perceptions of democracy on the effect of governmental performance on political trust in authoritarian regimes by studying the case of China. The popular perceptions of democracy affect the evaluations of governmental performance, and the effects of governmental performance on political trust are contingent on particular democratic perception. The results reveal that a better government’s social performance particularly increases political trust among people who view elections as an essential component of democracy. However, such a positive effect is significantly reduced among people who consider political rights to be a key component of democracy. Regardless of how Chinese people view democracy, government’s poor political performance reduces people’s political trust in the government. However, the negative effect is most significant among people who prioritize political rights in their perception of democracy. For those who view economic security as an essential component of democracy, the negative effect of the government’s poor political performance on political trust is substantially attenuated.

In this study, we empirically examined the following three relationships through quantitative analysis of web-based survey data collected from managers of Japanese firms. First, we examined the relationship between managers’ perceptions of controllability and budget use. Second, we examined the relationship between budget use and altruistic behavior. Third, based on managers’ perceptions of controllability, we examined the relationship between altruistic behavior and managerial performance. Structural equation modeling revealed that not only did perception of low controllability by managers promoted the use of budgeting, it also promoted organizational citizenship behavior through increased trust in superiors, which subsequently enhanced managerial performance. Abstract:
Users and food marketers alike would share images of food in the hopes that viewers would be able to capture the emotion/sensation presented by the food. This is a form of food digitization, shifting away from the mechanical aspect of taste stimulation to the use of digitized visuals. This paper aim to evaluate the performance of taste perception made by users by just looking at food image. Using food images as a medium of taste stimulation, this paper reports international users’ perception of the taste of Malaysian local food through an online channel. By applying SPSS analysis, the author studied the patterns of similarity and dissimilarity of users’ perception of food images that have been compiled using an online survey. Interestingly observed, the results of the analysis enable the author to assess how close user perceptions were akin to the real taste. The author found that most user perceptions are closely matched with the food’s real taste which allows the author to conclude that visual media is possible in stimulating food taste experience. It is good news for food marketers and food tourism. Nevertheless, more samples of food images are required to further attest these findings.

Abstract:
Improving the quality of human resources can be done through the utilization of various functions and personnel activities to ensure that they will be absorbed in the world of hospitality. Employee performance is influenced by various factors including individual characters and their perception of fairness in working. The purpose of this research is to examine the influence of individual characters and perceptions of fairness on employee performance as well as to identify the state of individual characters and the perception of fairness to employee performance at the hotel in Denpasar. The results showed that individual character, and perception of fairness simultaneously have a significant effect on the performance of Hotel employees in Denpasar. Furthermore, partially individual characters, and the perception of fairness affect the performance of hotel employees in Denpasar. Because the perception of fairness has a dominant effect on employee performance, the management is expected to give sufficient attention to the amount of rewards received by the employee so that they are always motivated in doing every job that has become their duty. Giving authority in decisions, responses and good attention from superiors and the existence of a system of fair division of tasks should be maintained by the management in order to maintain the company performance.

Abstract:
Understanding the perception that students have about their own cognitive processes is a key aspect that allows for a deeper assimilation of the different factors that affect school performance. However, there is limited evidence explaining the link between students’ perception of their own cognitive functions and their academic performance. The objective of this study was to analyze the association between perception of cognitive functions, such as memory, processing speed, attention, execution of complex tasks and nervousness, and academic performance in Chilean schoolchildren from the province of Biobio. A cross-sectional analytic design was conducted. The sample consisted of 590 elementary school students (12 ± 1.3 years old; 48.3% female) from Chilean public schools. The academic performance was measured by means of the accumulated final grades in the language, mathematics, physical education and health subjects, and the grade point average (GPA) of each student. Moreover, a survey to measure the cognitive functions of the participants was applied. The results show that 20.3% of the students perceived themselves as very nervous and 16.8% felt distracted. Differences in marks were observed in all the measured subjects, as well as in GPAs, depending on the perception of cognitive functions. Thus, the students with low to moderate perceptions of their cognitive functions received lower marks than those who reported a high perception. These results were consistent after a multivariate analysis adjusted for a socio-educational variables model. In conclusion, one in five public school students in the Biobío Region of Chile expressed a low perception of their cognitive functions, which is consistent with their weaker school performance. Therefore, it is believed that integrating curricular activity and cognitive work could potentially boost the perception of said functions, and thus reduce the risk of poor academic performance.
