Abstract:
This chapter adopts an individual-level approach to reducing workplace discrimination with a focus on the actions of its targets. We consider the intersection of two dimensions of stigmatized attributes—their visibility and perceived controllability—as factors that directly influence the likely effectiveness of a range of remediation strategies. Through this lens and the evidence we synthesize, we build enhanced understanding of why there is a variance in the effectiveness of coping strategies and insight into what, when, and why certain strategies might be most effective. Finally, we articulate that the influence of stigma visibility and perceived controllability—and the remediation strategies that are likely to be most effective—should be considered in light of the stigma’s fluid course.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter considers non-legislative pressures in mental health community treatment, reviews the current body of evidence, and offers recommendations for future research. It attempts to clarify terminology on treatment pressures including different forms of ‘leverage’ such as housing, financial, criminal justice, childcare leverages, and perceived coercion. Based on a scoping review the chapter portrays current international evidence on prevalence, predictors, and outcomes of informal coercion (for example persuasion, interpersonal leverage, inducement, threats, and force) in both quantitative and qualitative studies with patients, with attention to the issues of the perception of fairness and the effectiveness of treatment, financial incentives to improve adherence, and sources of informal coercion. It also discusses common limitations and recommendations for future research.

Abstract:
This article discusses the social and psychological cases for gender equity and for policies and practices to support the integration of work and non-work life. As the implementation of flexible working arrangements (FWAs) is influenced by public policy provisions, it considers the regulatory background from a European/UK perspective before going on to consider the types of “work–life” policies or FWAs introduced in organizations. Furthermore, the article discusses the impact and effectiveness of these policies and residual barriers to their success. Such outcomes include wellbeing and perceived organizational justice, as well as organizational learning and other organizational issues. The article finally demonstrates the interrelationships between individual and workplace outcomes, emphasizing the limitations of policy alone and the importance of implementation and practice.

Ciorciari, John D. Sovereignty Sharing in Fragile States. Stanford University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.11126/stanford/9781503613669.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
This book examines “sovereignty-sharing” in fragile states, focusing on ventures in which domestic and international actors share authority to provide basic public services and build the rule of law. It examines how and why these ventures are created, designed, and implemented and what determines their perceived legitimacy and effectiveness. The book shows that sovereignty sharing can help address governance gaps under certain conditions, but that apportioning core sovereign functions remains difficult, as national and international partners bring different capacities, norms, and policy priorities. It demonstrates that the political foundations of sovereignty-sharing arrangements are crucial for effective performance, which in turn drives popular support. The book considers case studies of hybrid tribunals in Sierra Leone, Cambodia, and Lebanon; joint policing in Timor-Leste; and anti-corruption initiatives in Guatemala and Liberia. It offers the first comparative assessment of these remarkable efforts to repair ruptures in the rule of law.

Abstract:
The present research constitutes as a research-intervention carried out with Control Agents of Zoonoses (CCZ) - Dengue Control Program. The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention of the Dialogical Conversation Wheels for refinement of the perception of Quality of Life of these workers. In the midst of this, the variations of the perception of the Quality of Life by the participants when inserted in the Wheels are identified. For that, the WHOQOL-bref instrument is used to collect quantitative data related to the Quality of Life of the research subjects, and the Dialogical Conversation Wheels as a tool for collecting qualitative data and also as a mediating space between the questionnaire and the workers. The methodology used thus involves both the quantitative and content analysis of these data, as well as an analysis of the workers' discourse from their speeches in the Dialogical Conversation Wheels, in which the researcher appropriates a Freirean look to carry out the discussion, which presents the speech of the participants of the Wheels itself in an elucidatory and explanatory way. . From the analysis of the four domains evaluated by the WHOQOL-breaf: Physical, Psychological, Social and Environmental, what can be perceived about the differences of scores (percentage) between the moments of the research, is, firstly, that there is a significant change in the perception of QV between at least two of the moments, which is expressed between moments 0 and 1, with the realization of five wheels between them. The main result that can be perceived concerns the fact that the Dialogical Conversation Wheel fulfills its objective, as the aspects related to quality of life are discussed, the return to the questionnaire is carried out in a more reflective way, in which the instrument itself can approach the reality of these people. It is also explicit that it is not any group that allows us to refine the perception about quality of life, since the Wheel of Dialogic Conversation is organized in such a way as to provide reception, encounters / confrontations of the subjects with the other, in a singular way, with himself, facing the stagnation and the massification of his daily life to denaturalize what is constructed as his life.
