Full textConventional agriculture is facing increasing criticism from the public opinion both due to the environmental impact of high input production systems and to food safety concerns related to the use of synthetic agrochemicals. Minimizing both issues, while maintaining a high level of crop productivity is a primary objective for the agribusiness companies and for the agricultural sector as a whole. The seed industry is in turn touched by this tendency as it faces a decrease in the tools available for controlling the most important field adversities and new challenges generated by a constantly evolving scenario, both in terms of environmental and regulatory conditions. The knowledge about root microbiota as a factor affecting plants growth and health is constantly revealing new aspects about the role that beneficial microorganisms play. In this study, soil microorganisms have been studied as related to their biodiversity and potential applications in order to better understand their role on determining crops yield and quality and to pave the way for future applications in seed corn field production. This was mainly pursued through two complementary approaches: - The testing of useful microorganisms on seed corn inbred lines, through a series of greenhouse and field trials, conducted during 2019 and 2020 growing seasons. Two species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) have been tested in order to evaluate their potential to colonize maize roots and their effect on plants phenotype and production parameters. - The complete characterization of soil and rhizosphere microbiota (bacteria and fungi) from 20 different production fields across Northern Italy. This was done thanks to the collaboration with BiomeMakers, a provider of high throughput microbiome characterization. Both approaches allowed to underline the role of soil microbiota in seed production success and to define strategies for improving seed production reliability through field selection and application of microbiobial inocula.

Full textGerman doctor of Jewish origin Alfred Döblin, young Spanish resistance fighter and communist Jorge Semprún, and writer-publisher Vercors (Jean Bruller) did not know each other and have nothing in common. However, all three went through the Second World war, through exile, clandestinity, or the concentration camp experience. Each contributed to the fight against Nazism but also paid the price. Among these three men, only Döblin was already a confirmed writer. However, they all produced works from 1945 onwards that were marked, if not deeply influenced, by these events. Thus, historical events present to us an exile, a deportee, and a spokesman for ghosts. Following these experiences, the stories studied here, although diverse in their conception, scenario, narrative, and style, are nevertheless marked by the same trauma of displacement, both in their journey and in their attempt to return. How could the outward journey be transcribed? Is there a possibility of returning to the life they once knew? Traditional values, identity quest, ontological questioning, subversion of discourse and myths: these are the paths explored in these texts, which are disturbingly topical

Full textThis doctoral research aim was to study hydrodynamic processes in a semi-enclosed bay such as the Toulon bay and their importance for the dispersion of dissolved contaminants. For this study, a YfilY high resolution (100 m spatial resolution) configuration named TBAY100, based on the MITgcm ocean circulation model, was implemented. A multi-model nesting was carried out ta work at such a resolution, starting from a 1.3 km NEMO-GLAZUR64 configuration of the North-Western Mediterranean then a 400 m NEMO-NIDOR configuration of the Var coastline ta correctly force the TBAY100 boundaries. Firstly, a mathematical analysis aimed to guantify energy exchanges for a simplified system then this analysis has been extended ta the Toulon bay to better understand the exchanges at the domain open boundaries. This configuration was then validated with various observations inoludin ADCP data and driftin eolocalisable
