A Bacia Hidrográfica do Arroio Pelotas, localiza-se na região Sul do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil entre os municípios de Pelotas, Canguçu, Arroio do Padre e Capão do Leão. Trata-se de um recurso hídrico utilizado pelo ser humano para diversas atividades, como por exemplo, lazer, irrigação para agricultura, bem como para abastecimento doméstico. Os recursos hídricos superficiais desta bacia hidrográfica estão expostos a diversa sejam de natureza geológica, como rochas de diferentes litologias e seus produtos (sedimentos), sejam de fontes antropogênicas, oriundas de atividades agropecuárias e urbanização. Com o intuito de identificar possíveis fontes naturais/ou antropogênicas que possam interferir na potabilidade das águas superficiais do Arroio Pelotas foram analisados os íons maiores fosfato, cloreto, fluoreto, nitrato, nitrito e sulfato, amônio, cálcio, magnésio, potássio e sódio a partir da cromatografia iônica, bem como pH e condutividade elétrica. Estes parâmetros foram analisados em 9 pontos de coleta, distribuídos da nascente à foz do Arroio Pelotas. As coletas foram realizadas no período de outono de 2009 até o verão de 2010, com amostragem 4 amostragens de cada ponto, uma em cada estação, a partir das quais foi possível observar a influência das ações humanas sobre este ambiente, bem como foi possível observar a influência de processos naturais na composição da água superficial deste curso d’água. A partir destes resultados foi possível observar a influência da pluviometria no acréscimo de compostos à base de nitrogênio nas estações chuvosas, bem como a influência de íons de origem marinha, como por exemplo, potássio, magnésio, cálcio, cloreto e sódio nas proximidades da foz do Arroio Pelotas em tempos de estiagem.
The Arroio Pelotas Watershed is located at the southern region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, among the towns of Pelotas, Canguçu, Arroio do Padre and Capão do Leão. It’s a hydric resource which is used by human being for several activities, such as leisure, irrigation for agriculture, as well as domestic supply. The superficial hydric resources of this watershed are exposed to many different substances, from geological nature as different kinds of lithological rocks and their products (sediments), to anthropogenic sources, arising from agriculture and cattle raising activities and urbanization. With the purpose of identifying possible natural or anthropogenic sources that may interfere in the potability of the superficial waters of Arroio Pelotas, bigger ions were analyzed: phosphate, chloride, fluoride, nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium through ion chromatography, pH and electrical conductivity. These were observed in 9 different collecting places distributed from the rising to the outfall of Arroio Pelotas, from which the collecting happened through the fall 2009 until summer 2010, with four collectings in each place, once every season. From this data it was possible to observe the influence of human actions on this environment, as well as the influence of natural processes in the water composition in this watercourse. From the results, we observed the rainfall influence in the adding of nitrogen-based composes in rainy seasons as well as the influence of sea-originated ions in the proximities of the outfall of Arroio Pelotas in dry periods.

A urbanização de um determinado território, por conseqüência do modelo de desenvolvimento urbano implantado, pode trazer consigo efeitos indesejáveis, considerados extremamente prejudiciais à população, quando associados às alterações sofridas pelo ciclo hidrológico. Neste sentido, pode-se verificar que a intensidade dos riscos de inundações está diretamente relacionada à maneira como é ocupado o território: maior o risco de ocorrência quanto maiores forem as modificações das características naturais da bacia hidrográfica, onde alterações da geometria e da permeabilidade do solo são parâmetros essenciais que devem ser observados. Neste trabalho são apresentadas as relações entre a urbanização e a ocorrência de inundações, visando destacar aspectos que contribuam para a adoção de medidas que possam minimizar os graves impactos da ação das águas nas cidades, decorrentes do processo de ocupação do território. A realização de obras de drenagem dissociadas das características naturais do meio físico causam as inundações que trazem prejuízos materiais e humanos para população. Identificamos, através de estudo de caso realizado em Pelotas, RS os aspectos que aumentam a suscetibilidade a inundações. Como exemplo de destinação de usos inadequados para estas áreas de risco citamos a estação rodoviária, o hospital universitário e o aterro sanitário municipal, implantados onde já houve ocorrência de inundações. Considerando a catástrofe como um prejuízo de alto custo, concluímos que são necessários investimentos bem maiores nas soluções corretivas dos danos do que na adoção de medidas preventivas de controle das inundações. Portanto, a abordagem adotada permitiu destacar algumas soluções relacionadas à drenagem, a serem consideradas na construção das cidades como alternativas para minimizar os riscos. Como contribuição ao tema, identificamos estratégias para uso e ocupação do solo a serem incorporadas na elaboração de planos diretores e indicamos o uso do geoprocessamento como ferramenta de agilização do mapeamento da situação existente, na identificação de conflitos e na adoção de medidas preventivas que consideram os aspectos paisagísticos e ambientais na solução do problema das inundações, não somente em Pelotas como em outros municípios. The urbanization of one determined territory, in consequence of the model of the urban development implanted, can bring undesirable effects, considered extremely harmful to the population, when associated to the alterations suffered by the hydrologic cycle. In this direction, it can be verified that the intensity of flooding risks is directly related to the way a territory is occupied: the greater the risks, the bigger will be the modifications of natural characteristics of the hydrographic basins, where alterations of the geometry and the permeability of the ground are essential parameters that must be observed. In this work, the relations between urbanization and floodings are presented, pointing out aspects that contribute for the adoption of measures that can minimize the serious impacts of water actions in the cities, due to the process of occupation of the territory. The accomplishment of the drainage workmanships, disregarding the environment's natural characteristics, cause floodings that bring material and human damages to the population. In a case study in Pelotas, RS, we identified aspects that increase the floodings susceptibility. As an example of inadequate use of risk areas, we cite the bus station, the university hospital and municipal sanitary landfills, constructed where previous floodings had occurred. Considering the disaster as high cost damage, we conclude that it is necessary to make bigger investments in corrective solutions of the damages than to adopt preventive writs to control the floodings. Therefore, the adopted approach allowed to point out some solutions related to drainage to be considered in the construction of the cities as an alternative to minimize risks. In contribution to the project, we have identified strategies on the use and occupation of territories to be incorporated in the elaboration of master plans and indicate the use of geoprocessing as a tool to accelerate the mapping of the existing situation, in the identification of conflicts and the adoption preventive writs that consider the landscape architecture and environmental aspects in the solution of the flooding problems, not only in Pelotas but in other cities as well.
