Abstract:
A Knaresborough Passion is a reworking of the Crucifixio Christi pageant from the medieval York Cycle of Corpus Christi Plays. The chamber opera is a deconstructive displacement of the previously held assumptions in the original play and in the succeeding canonical tradition. The libretto, borrowing text from Tony Harrison's The Mysteries and Paul Corcoran's Four Knights at Knaresborough presents the characters in inversion to each other in a constantly shifting dialogic that cuts across temporal divisions. The displaced hierarchical structure then allows the characters to break free from otherwise closed ideological interpretations, allowing them to hint at other contexts and meanings.

PLIGHT AND PASSION By Lisa B. Williams A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Fine Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University. Virginia Commonwealth University, 2014. Major Director: Dr. John McCown, Professor of English, English Department. The goal of this thesis is to bring to life the countless stories of oppression, perseverance, and hope of African-Americans during the early twentieth century. I used two settings, the rural South and the industrialized North, to reflect the different challenges of surviving and thriving during times of segregation. Buck Carrington, in Part I of the novel that is set in Virginia, is forced to confront not only his own personal demons of lust and intemperance, but also the vices of hatred and racism. In the end, he loses everything. His wife, Helen, decides to leave Buck, and she ventures to the city, to Harlem, which is the setting for Part II of this novel. As a woman with no education, she must forge a path to independence by working hard and attaining an education, and incidentally, she finds love and self-confidence in the process. I used dialect and vivid description to characterize each protagonist, Buck as wild and hot-tempered, and Helen as reserved and shy, but strong-willed. I also used historical references and allusions to place the reader in the time period and to bring the many facets of African American culture and values to life.

Abstract:
Syftet med föreliggande uppsats var att studera vilka motivationsfaktorer, passionsfaktorer samt vilken grad av självförtroende som uppvisas hos ungdomslandslagsspelare i fotboll. Vidare undersöktes samband mellan passion och självförtroende samt hur motivation var relaterat till passion och självförtroende. I studien deltog 288 manliga och kvinnliga fotbollspelare i åldrarna 15-17 år (M=16,02, Sd=1,06) från svenska ungdomslandslaget i fotboll. I studien användes Vealeys Sportconfidence Scale (VSS), Sport Motivation Scale (SMS) och The Passion Scale (PS). Resultatet visade att det fanns statistiska signifikanta samband mellan de tre variablerna passion, motivation och självförtroende. Vidare påvisades att inre motivationsfaktorer var främst förekommande bland ungdomslandslagsfotbollspelare samt att individerna med harmonisk passion uppvisade starkare samband med självförtroende än individer med tvångsmässig passion. Studieresultaten har analyserats och diskuterats i förhållande till teorier och tidigare forskning. Likt alla forskningsområden behövs ytterligare forskning med slumpmässigt urval för att kunna fastställa några säkra slutsatser gällande huruvida resultaten går att generalisera på den stora populationen.
The purpose of the study was to investigate motivationalfactors, passionfactors and level of confidence players among the youth Swedish nationalteam in soccer. Furthermore the relationship between passion and confidence was investigated and also how motiovation is related to passion and confidence. 288 male and female soocer players aged between 15-17 (M=16.02, Sd=1.06) took part of the study. Vealey Sportconfidence Scale (VSS), Sport Motivation Scale (SMS) andThe Passion Scale (PS) was used in the study. The results showed statistically significant relationships between passion, motivation and confidence. The results showed that internal motivational factors was most common in youth national team players and that harmonic passion showed a more significant relationship with confidence than obsessive passion did. Further the results were analyzed and discussed in relation theories and earilier findings. Like all fields of research, further research on a wider population and with larger sample is needed in order to establish any form of conclusions.

I dagens Sverige tillkommer det i snitt ett nytt mikrobryggeri i veckan. Det finns nu ett ungefärligt  antal på 250 stycken mikrobryggerier i Sverige och dessa vill hitta en position  på ölmarknaden. Då alternativen för marknadskommunikation är begränsade för alko- holhaltiga produkter på grund av den svenska lagstiftningen får förpackningen en större roll som identitetskommunikatör. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur fem svenska mikrobryggerier använder förpackningsdesign för att visuellt kommunicera det lokala till sin målgrupp. För att besvara syftet har i studien semiotisk analys, samtalsintervjuer och kvalitativ enkätundersökning valts som metod. Frågorna och analysen har fokuserats kring förpackningsdesignen. I resultatet framkom det att användning av neolokalism  syns i samtliga studerade förpackningar. De utvalda  bryggerierna vill framhäva en lokal förankring och gör detta genom förpackningarna, flera av respondenterna i undersökningen bekräftade en välvilja till det lokala.

A Newfound Passion- Choreography analyzes the artistic process and life journey of creating choreography for musical theatre. My training as a dance minor at East Tennessee State University from 2011-2015 culminated in my final senior capstone experience as a choreographer for the ETSU Division of Theatre and Dance’s production of Oklahoma!. Composing a new musical theatre dance and analyzing the original choreography of Oklahoma! (and the art of choreography more generally) provided significant material for analysis, and the following research reflects what I learned and experienced. Overall, the experience of choreographing has changed the way I see myself as a dancer and has instilled in me a new sense of respect for choreographers around the world.

The world values are changing at a fast pace and a recent sociological trend reflects the emergence of freedom in making life choices with the aim of achieving self-expression and well-being in the most economically developed countries (Inglehart & Welzel, 2005). Passion, as an expression of life satisfaction and self-realization, is becoming an important driver in determining life activity choices. Being the first study to apply the dualistic model of passion (Vallerand et al., 2003) in Italy, the present research addresses the inadequacy of managerial literature to deal with the increasing role of passion for activities by bridging psychological and managerial theories. The first exploratory case study builds on theory by proposing a new industry model, named “high passion intensity industries”. Passion as a main determinant of choices and authenticity are its main characteristics. The second study enriches the tribal marketing perspective (Cova and Cova, 2002) by introducing a new “tribal subject” in the theory: the “tribes of professionals”. The third article departs from the conclusions of the previous articles and analyzes managerial implications.
I valori stanno cambiando ad un ritmo crescente nel mondo e un recente trend sociologico evidenzia come nei paesi più economicamente sviluppati si stia affermando una maggiore libertà nelle scelte che mirano sempre più al benessere e all’espressione della propria personalità (Inglehart e Welzel, 2005). La passione come via per l’autorealizzazione e la life satisfaction sta diventando una determinante fondamentale nella scelta delle attività da compiere. Il presente lavoro, avvalendosi per la prima volta in Italia del modello dualistico della passione (Vallerand et al., 2003), affronta l’inadeguatezza della letteratura in materia economico aziendale nel trattare il ruolo crescente della passione per le attività, sfruttando contributi teorici in materia psicologica e manageriale. Il primo studio di casi di tipo esplorativo contribuisce all’estensione della teoria proponendo un nuovo modello di settore: “i settori ad alta intensità di passione”, caratterizzati dalla passione come determinante fondamentale delle scelte e dall’autenticità dei comportamenti. Il secondo studio espande l’approccio di marketing tribale (Cova e Cova, 2002) introducendo un nuovo “soggetto tribale”: le “tribù di professionisti”. Il terzo articolo, partendo dai risultati dei primi due, ne analizza le ricadute manageriali.

Abstract:
The dissertation provides a critical study of the five surviving Passion-works associated with the Kapellmeisters of the court of Zerbst within the context of the unique tradition of Passiontide oratorio performances in this centre between 1720 and 1767. To provide a necessary context to the principal topic, the dissertation commences with a survey of the 18th- century oratorio Passion giving a discussion of the centres that supported performances of liturgical Passions, their repertoire and how the works concerned reflected local liturgical requirements. Addressing in turn texts, singing characters, allocation of vocal soloists, instrumentation, musical structures and style, the first chapter examines the development of the form and the conventions of the period, highlighting departures from accepted norms. The chapter ends with two case studies (Telemann's 1744 St Luke Passion and Homilius's St Mark Passion), to provide contrasting examples of mid-century works. Chapter 2 surveys the development of the Zerbst Hofkapelle in the 18th century: the players and the repertoire. Chapters provides biographies of the three full-time Kapellmeisters (Johann Baptiste Kuch, Johann Friedrich Fasch and Johann Georg Rollig) together with a greatly extended work-list for Rollig. Chapter 4 discusses the evidence provided by the scores and surviving records of services in the Zerbst SchloBkirche from which it is possible to build up a picture of the context of the Passion performances in the Zerbst liturgy and the contents of the Passiontide services. It has also been possible to make an assessment of the number of works that were composed for this centre in the 18th century. Chapters 5 provides a survey of the principal sources of hymns in the Court (the various Zerbstisches Gesangbucher and Cantional) and discusses the relationships of the surviving works with these two sources. The remaining chapters each deal with one of the surviving works: Fasch's Mich vom Stricke meiner Sunden, Rollig's St Matthew Passion, the anonymous four-Part St Luke and seven-Part St John Passions and Rollig's St Mark Passion (Die betrubte und getrostete Geistliche Sulamith ). In the light of the evidence presented, the concluding chapter provides tentative suggestions regarding the authorship of the anonymous works.

La critique simonienne s’est déjà penchée sur les rapports de l’œuvre de Claude Simon à l’image, peinture ou photographie, mais le lien au cinéma n’a jamais donné lieu à une étude approfondie. Ma recherche met donc au jour les liens complexes de Claude Simon à l’image cinématographique et je fais porter mon effort d’analyse sur ce dialogue toujours renouvelé entre écriture et réalisation filmique, afin de montrer dans quelle mesure le passage d’un langage à une autre influence notablement le processus créatif chez Claude Simon. L’écrivain a commencé, on le sait, à écrire un découpage pour l’adaptation de La Route des Flandres dès 1961, mais le projet a échoué. Ce que, dès lors, je tente de mettre en évidence, c’est l’histoire d’un rendez-vous manqué dont la dynamique va pourtant enrichir toute une œuvre littéraire. J’étudie ainsi, dans un premier temps, comment l’influence du dispositif cinématographique transparaît dans bien des aspects de l’écriture simonienne : importance de la vision, cadre, lumière ou montage, qui ont tous marqué cette écriture, l’ont inspirée, modifiée, structurée ou déconstruite. Puis, un voyage, opéré dans la géographie cinématographique du spectateur-Claude Simon, met en évidence un auteur imprégné de cinéma, un véritable « enfant de cinéma ». J’ai pu déceler dans l’œuvre la trace des expériences de l’écrivain en tant que spectateur. Ainsi a-t-il été marqué par les débuts du cinéma, le burlesque, les films surréalistes, la mythologie hollywoodienne, la dynamique pornographique et le western. Enfin, l’observation des deux seules tentatives concrètes d’adaptation cinématographique par l’écrivain, le découpage de La Route des Flandres et le court-métrage inspiré de Triptyque, pleines à la fois d’enthousiasme et de déception, permettent d’éclairer les relations ambiguës qu’entretient Claude Simon avec cet art et ses choix en tant que réalisateur potentiel. . .
Critics of Claude Simon have already studied the relation of his work to the image, whether photographic or pictorial, but the links with cinema have never been seriously studied. This is why my own research intends to explore the complex links between his work and the cinematographic image, and why I focus my analysis on the endlessly recycled dialogue between writing and film production, in order to show how the transition from one medium to another influences in particular Claude Simon’s creative procedures. It is well known that the writer started to devise a film scenario for his novel La route des Flandres as early as 1961, but that this project floundered. What I hope to demonstrate is that this failed encounter did however engender and enrich the dynamics of a whole literary enterprise. I also undertake in the first instance a study of the way in which the machinery of the cinema sometimes quite transparently influences several aspects of the style of Simon’s writing : notably in terms of viewing, framing, lighting and montage, which have all left their mark on his writing, and have indeed inspired, inflected, structured or deconstructed it. I then proceed to explore the cinematographic geography of Claude Simon, seen as spectator, in order to throw new light on an author born and bathed in the cinema. I follow the author’s progress as writer and cinema viewer. I show how he was marked by encounters with cinema, from the birth of the movies, the burlesque and surrealist film, to the mythical age of Hollywood, including the Western, through to the explosion of porn. And finally, observing the writer’s two concrete proposals for film adaptation of his novels, the montage for La route des Flandres and the documentary inspired by Triptyique, both brimming with enthusiasm and disappointment, I am able to throw new light on the ambiguous relations elaborated between Claude Simon as writer and artist and Claude Simon faced with the choices of a potential film director

Die Oper „Ariane et Barbe-Bleue“ (Uraufführung 7. Mai 1907 in der Opéra-Comique Paris) von Maurice Maeterlinck und Paul Dukas weist mit der Protagonistin Ariane eine ungewöhnlich starke und selbstbewusste Frauenfigur auf, die entgegen allen Erwartungen und Konventionen gegen Verbote handelt, um die fünf gefangenen Ehefrauen Blaubarts zu befreien. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Frauenfiguren auf der Opernbühne des Fin de Siècle, wie beispielsweise Mélisande oder Salomé, wird sie nicht mit dem Tode bestraft, sondern geht nach ihrer Mission unversehrt von dannen. Maurice Maeterlinck gelang mit diesem Libretto und vor allem der Frauenfigur Ariane die Wende vom symbolistischen zum realistischen Theater. Paul Dukas sicherte sich die Vertonungsrechte für seine erste und einzige Oper, drängte Maeterlinck aber zu umfangreichen Änderungen am Libretto, die hier nachgezeichnet werden. Diese Arbeit untersucht den Entstehungsprozess des Librettos von den ersten Skizzen Maeterlincks 1898/1899 bis zur Endfassung des Textes der Orchesterpartitur (1907) und zeichnet den Einfluss Dukas’ auf die Konzeption des Librettos nach. Gleichzeitig werden die vorgenommenen Änderungen in Beziehung gesetzt zu Maeterlincks Dramenschaffen der Jahre 1890 bis 1902, die sowohl eine Entwicklung der Frauenfiguren als auch der Dramenkonzeption im allgemeinen aufweisen. Georgette Leblanc, Schauspielerin und Sängerin als auch Lebensgefährtin des Schriftstellers Maeterlinck, hatte einen nicht unerheblichen Einfluss auf die Entwicklung von Maeterlincks Frauenbild, dessen Entwicklung exemplarisch an den Dramen „Princesse Maleine“, „Aglavaine et Sélysette“ und „Monna Vanna“ nachgezeichnet wird. Die philosophischen Werke Maeterlincks („Le Trésor des Humbles“, „La Sagesse et la destinée“ und „Le Double Jardin“) bilden die theoretischen Grundlagen für Maeterlincks Werke und erlauben eine konkrete Verortung der Figur der Ariane innerhalb der Entwicklung des Frauenbildes Maeterlincks.
The opera “Ariane et Barbe-Bleue“ (première May 7, 1907 at Opéra-Comique in Paris) by Maurice Maeterlinck and Paul Dukas features the protagonist Ariane, a very unusual strong and self-conscious figure of a woman that acts against all kinds of expectations and limitations to free the five captured wives of Bluebeard. Unlike other figures of women of fin de siècle opera like Mélisande (‘femme fatal’) or Salomé (‘femme fragile’) Ariane is not punished for disobedience, after she accomplished her mission she walks away. With the libretto of “Ariane et Barbe-Bleue” Maeterlinck managed to change his dramatic technique from symbolistic to realistic theatre. Paul Dukas acquired the rights to set the libretto to music for his one and only opera and urged Maeterlinck to change important parts of the piece. This dissertation in on the one hand side uncovering Dukas’ participation on Maeterlinck’s libretto that can be traced in the three different stages of the libretto from the first version (preserved only in German) in 1899 through the published ‘Theatre’ version (1901) to the printed text in the score of 1907. This changes will be put in relation to the development of Maeterlinck’s dramatic changes of the years 1890 to 1902, which include also the development of the figure of women in his dramas in general. Georgette Leblanc, singer, actress and 23 years companion of Maeterlinck had a great impact of Maeterlinck’s picture of women and its’ development that are examined in the theatre plays “Princesse Maleine”, “Aglavaine et Sélysette” and “Monna Vanna”. The theoretical basis of his theatre works can be found in Maeterlinck’s philosophical works (“Le Trésor des humbles”, “La Sagesse et la destine” and “La Doube Jardin”) that also places the figure of Ariane in the context of the development of his image of women.

La vie de Colette peut être comparée à un chemin pour conquérir concrètement sa liberté, et son œuvre peut se résumer comme un témoignage précisant l'importance de la liberté. Nous voulons comprendre la place de Colette qui est à la fois en retard et en avance sur le féminisme, en analysant l'image de la femme colettienne qui s'obstine à être féminine jusqu'au bout et qui souligne en même temps sa virilité mentale. La première partie est consacrée à l'auteur qui, tout en acceptant d'être une femme passive, ne se décourage pas de se réaliser comme femme amoureuse et libre tout au long de sa vie réelle. Dans la deuxième partie, nous démontrons que l'écriture elle-même est pour l'auteur un but à atteindre pour obtenir la liberté et l'égalité, en assumant sa différence et en rétablissant sa féminité. A partir de la troisième partie, nous abordons des sujets liés à l'émancipation féminine en soulevant le problème de la conciliation de la liberté et de l'amour grâce à la dualité propre de la femme et par le conflit entre les deux sexes, et en examinant le point de vue de l'auteur à propos de la sexualité et de la sensualité de la femme. Colette’s life can be compared with a way to gain concretely her freedom, and her works can summarize itself as evidence specifying the importance of the freedom. We want understand the position of Colette, who is at once late and in advance of the feminism, analyzing in Colette’s works the image of the woman, who persist in being woman to the end, and who emphasize her mental virility at the same time. The first part is dedicated to the author who, accepting to be a passive woman, dont’t loses heart fulfilling herself as a woman in love and free all her real life long. In the second part, we demonstrate that writing itself is for the author a target to reach to obtain freedom and equality, assuming her difference and restoring her femininity. From the third part, we approach subjects connected with feminine emancipation, raising the problem of conciliation of freedom and love thanks to the own woman's duality and owing to the conflict between the two sexes, and considering author's point of view on the subject of woman's sexuality and sensuality. We understand finally that all the components of the duality that oppose and substitute themselves alternately, make woman's equilibrium and give to her the strength to be a woman. Therefore, it is in androgyny that the author finds the true realization of freedom and woman's autonomy without denying man's need, and vice versa, that we show in the last part

Syftet med den aktuella studien var att undersöka hur variablerna passion och ångest förhåller sig till varandra samt undersöka om situationen idrottare befinner sig i (träning eller match) har betydelse för dessa samband. I studien deltog 112 idrottare i åldrarna 15–34 år (M=20.2, SD=4.3) från tio olika idrottsföreningar i Halland. Deltagarna mättes en gång inför träning och en gång inför match. Resultatet visade att det förelåg ett negativt signifikant samband mellan harmonisk passion och ångest inför träning (r = -.19, p <.05) och match (r = -.32, p <.01) samt att det inte förelåg ett positivt signifikant samband mellan tvångsmässig passion och ångest inför träning (r = .16, p >.05) och match (r = .07, p >.05). Resultatet visade även att situationen hade en signifikant effekt på deltagarnas upplevda ångest (p <.01). Vidare visade resultatet att det fanns en signifikant skillnad i upplevd ångest mellan de två formerna av passion (p <.01). Däremot förelåg det ingen signifikant interaktionseffekt mellan de två olika formerna av passion och de två olika situationerna i upplevd ångest (p >.05). Baserat på studiens resultat, framhävs vikten av en harmonisk passion då denna verkar vara en mer hälsosam väg till idrottslig prestation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how the variables passion and anxiety relate to each other, as well as investigate if the type of situation athletes are exposed to (practice vs. game) is of significance for this relation. In the study, 112 athletes between 15-34 years of age (M=20.2, SD=4.3) from ten different sports associations in Halland participated. The participants were measured once right before a practice and once right before a game. The results showed that there was a negative significant correlation between harmonious passion and anxiety prior to practice (r = -.19, p <.05) and game situation (r = -32, p <.01), but showed no positive significant correlation between obsessive passion and anxiety prior to practice (r = .16, p >.05) and game situation (r = .07, p >.05). Furthermore, the results showed that the type of situation had a significant effect on the level of anxiety among the participants (p <.01). The results also showed that there was a significant difference in levels of anxiety depending on the type of passion (p <.01). However, there appeared to be no significant interaction effect between the two groups of passion and the level of anxiety depending on the situation (p >.05). Based on the results of the study, a harmonious passion is desirable, since this seems to be a healthier road toward athletic performance.

This thesis considers the films of Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar as postmodern melodramas. The crux of my argument is that melodrama is known for its expressiveness and its attempt to restore a spiritual element to a post-sacred world, and is used by Almodóvar to make clear the problems and contradictions inherent in the destabilized world of postmodernity. This definition of melodrama draws primarily on the work of Peter Brooks, Christine Gledhill and Linda Williams; it is modified to apply to postmodernism as defined by Jean Baudrillard and Frederic Jameson. The conclusion reached is that Almodóvar is deeply ambivalent about postmodernity. Chapter 2 considers the twin issues of representation and sexuality in Almodóvar’s first six films: Pepi, Luci, Born (Pepi, Luci Born y otras chicas del montón, 1980), Labyrinth of Passions (Laberinto de pasiones, 1982), Dark Habits (Entre tinieblas, 1983), What Have I Done To Deserve This? (Qué he hecho yopor merecer esto!, 1984), Matador (1986), and Law ofDesire (Le ley del deseo, 1987); with a special eye to the representation of sexual violence, it establishes how Almodóvar develops his ambivalent melodramatic imagination. Chapter 3 considers fashion as a discourse and argues that Almodóvar’s next four films use clothing to place different versions of femininity in dialogue, and uses this as a springboard to consider Women on the Verge ofa Nervous Breakdown (Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, 1988), Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (I Atame!, 1990), High Heels (Tacones lejanos, 1991), and Kika (1993) as postmodern “women’s pictures.” Chapter 4 considers the appearance of the explicitly political along with the symbolism of the image of the map in The Flower of My Secret (Laflor de rni secreto, 1995), Live Flesh (Came trémula, 1997), and All About My Mother (Todo sobre mi madre, 1999). Pour en mesurer la portée, il faut suivre les désespoirs et les conquêtes de ce voyage-passion en terrain antique. Si Flaubert repousse d'abord l’Antiquité morale et rhétorique que lui fournit le collège, il y revient vite, fasciné par le pouvoir des langues mortes. Il se construit un modèle antique, personnel et romantique, littéraire et historique, dont les "colosses" s'appellent Alexandre, Néron, Homère, Hérodote, Tacite, Pétrone, Apulée. Cette recherche exploratoire porte sur la passion sportive des entraineurs de niveau universitaire. Les objectifs de l’étude consistent à comprendre un peu mieux les perceptions qu’ont les entraineurs par rapport à la passion sportive et à découvrir comment se développe et se maintient cette même passion sportive. L’auteur se base sur le modèle dualiste de la passion proposé par Vallerand (Vallerand, Blanchard, Mageau, Koestner, Ratelle et al., 2003). La méthodologie utilisée est de type qualitatif/interprétatif. La technique d’entrevue semi-structurée a été utilisée. Une analyse inductive des données découlant du modèle de Blais et Martineau (2006) a été effectuée. En fonction des résultats obtenus, il semble que la perception de la passion sportive des entraineurs consiste principalement à : «redonner au sport ce que le sport a donné à l’entraineur en s’impliquant à fond, entre autres en y consacrant énormément de temps, ainsi qu’en faisant profiter les autres de son expérience et de ses connaissances». Ce que l’ensemble des entraineurs universitaires semblent vouloir dire par l’expression «redonner au sport ce que le sport a donné aux entraineurs», c’est de faire profiter aux athlètes universitaires de l’expérience que les entraineurs ont acquise avec le temps. Certains facteurs, dont les liens sociaux, semblent pouvoir influencer le développement et le maintien de ladite passion.

Researchers have noted the important role which passion plays in people's lives. This study investigated an existing theoretical framework of passion and suggests an additional construct, inhibition, to this framework in regards to sexual passion. Additionally, this study investigated the constructs of passion and how they relate to sexual and relationship satisfaction. A sample of 1,429 men and women completed the Sexual Passion Scale, the Sexual Satisfaction Scale, and the Relationship Satisfaction Scale. Confirmatory factor analyses revealed that sexual passion may represent three distinct approaches (harmonious, obsessive, inhibited). In terms of sexual and relationship satisfaction, data analyses revealed that the harmonious passion scale is the best predictor. Overall, these findings may further the discussion in understanding the complex nature of sexual passion in committed, long-term relationships.

The purpose of this phenomenological case study was to understand how passion is used by participating teachers at Hugo High School and if its use is intentional in the classroom. A qualitative research design was used for this study. The case study was determined to be the most appropriate method for this research because it provided an opportunity to get a deeper understanding of the research topic. This study used Fried’s definition of passion as one who is “in love with a field of knowledge, deeply stirred by issues and ideas that challenge our world, drawn to the dilemmas and potentials of the young people who come into class each day – or captivated by all of these” (Fried, 2001, p. 1). The research data were collected from nine teachers about their use of passion in the classroom. The constant comparative method is an important tool to sort data in the coding process; it was used to take information from the data, compare it to previous data, and sort it into six themes. The findings indicate that teachers used passion as a teaching tool and that passionate teaching was used by all teachers in the study. Passion was experienced through the care that teachers felt for their students. Teachers who did not plan to use passion used passion when the opportunity was present and realized by the teacher. Using passion was a positive experience for teachers. Teachers who did not plan to use passion recognized changes in their behavior and felt good about themselves as teachers. Teachers who intended to use passion planned many of their own behaviors and felt good about themselves as teachers when experiencing passionate lessons. Teachers’ feelings were fueled by positive student feedback and perpetuated passionate teaching moments.

Det svenska flygvapnet kommer inom en relativt snar framtid införskaffa nya flygplan och samtidigt utöka sin verksamhet från tre till fyra flottiljer vilket innebär att antalet divisioner ökar från sex till åtta. Expansionen kräver stora personella resurser, resurser som kanske inte finns i framtiden. Med anledning av stora pensionsavgångar inom den närmsta 10 års-perioden kombinerat med en svårighet för flygvapnet att utbilda i tillräcklig omfattning, kommer det råda brist på stridspiloter i framtiden. Studien har ett behållarperspektiv och fokuserar på vilka drivkrafter som får Försvarsmaktens stridspiloter att stanna kvar i yrket samt vad som kan få dem att tveka i sin anställning. Målet med studien är att de svar samt de slutsatser som dras kan ge flygvapnet en inblick i hur enskilda stridspiloter ser på sin arbetssituation. Studien fokuserar på en verksamhetsort, F17 Kallinge och deras två divisioner. Fallstudien har en induktiv ansats och inhämtar empirin från djupintervjuer av stridspiloter tillhörande F17. Empirin analyseras mot framtagen teoretisk referensram. Den använda referensramen utgörs av Ryan & Deci inre och yttre faktorer, HeinMotivation av högspecialiserade kreativa medarbetare, Herzbergs tvåfaktorteori, Vallerand passion, Locke & Latham målsättningsteori samt Flower & Hughes employee retention. Studien visar att de primära drivkrafterna att stanna kvar som stridspilot på F17 är identitet, självförverkligande och arbetsglädje. Stridspiloterna stimuleras av spänningen, flygningen och själva jobbet i sig. Passionen till yrket är många gånger så stark och känslan av att vara del i en spetsverksamhet samt känslan av att vara unik gör att de identifierar sig med yrket och det blir som ett kall. Personlig utveckling är en av de viktigaste drivkrafterna, de vill hela tiden ha nya utmaningar och utveckling, personlig som förbandets. När så sker upplever piloterna en känsla av självförverkligande. Viktiga faktorer för att skapa förutsättningar för detta och verkar som en basplatta är ledning, gemenskap och trygghet. Det finns behov av en god gemenskap och ett starkt behov av att känna tillhörighet till divisionen. Basplattan utgörs även av tryggheten en anställning i Försvarsmakten innebär samt den unika kompetensen en stridspilot innehar. De viktigaste faktorerna som får piloterna på F17 att tveka i sin anställning är stagnation, yrkeslivet efter åren på operativ stridsflygdivision och obalans i familjelivet. Känner stridspiloterna att utvecklingen stannar av, både individens och förbandets utveckling, blir de omotiverade och känner en anledning att tveka. De känner även att lönen har stagnerat samt att pensionsåldern förändrats vilket leder till en minskad motivation. Vad som händer efter livet på divisionen oroar piloterna kopplat till identiteten, gemenskapen samt passionen i flygningen. Familjen är högst prioriterad och det måste finnas en balans mellan yrkesliv och familjeliv för att de ska stanna kvar i Försvarsmakten. För att hantera drivkrafterna och orsakande faktorer att sluta krävs en lyhörd och flexibel ledning som även leder, uppmuntrar, sätter tydliga mål och förstärker den goda gemenskapen.
The Swedish air force will in a near future obtain new airplanes and expand its function from three to four wings which imply that the number of squadrons increases from six to eight. The expansion demands large numbers of personnel, personnel that maybe not will exist in the future. The amount of fighter pilots connected to the role is dangerously close to critical mass if not below and that is if no one quits before retention. This study has its perspective on keeping the personnel and focusing on which driving forces makes the armed forces fighter pilots stay in their employment. The objective with this study is that the answer and the conclusions drawn will give the air force an insight in how individual fighter pilots consider their work situation. The study has focus on one working place, F17 Kallinge and its two squadrons. The case study has an inductive approach and collects the empiricism from depth interviews of fighter pilots belonging to F17. The empiricism analyzed against the forthcoming theoretical reference. The reference used are Herzberg two factor theory, Ryan & Deci intrinsic and extrinsic factors, Locke & Latham goal setting theory, Flower & Hughes employee retention, Hein Motivation: motivation theory & practical application and Vallerand passion. The study concludes that identity, fulfillment and job satisfaction is factors that motivates the fighter pilots to stay in the armed forces and factors like stagnation, work life post squadron and a life imbalance between the job and the private life makes them hesitate.

Vi vill även utforska vad det är som motiverar dessa personer till att lägga ned den tid och kraft som krävs för kunna arbeta med passionen. Vi har genomfört nio kvalitativa intervjuer med personer som antingen helt, eller till viss del, försörjer sig på sin passion. Respondenternas yrken är: Cellist, Författare, Vinimportör, Projektledare/Idrottschef, Hudterapeut, Fotograf, Musikproducent, Glaskonstnär och Musikalartist. Vi har gjort urval efter vår teoretiska referensram för att kunna svara på våra frågeställningar. Urvalet är på så sätt ett målstyrt urval men vi har även till viss del gjort ett fåtal bekvämlighetsurval. Bekvämlighetsurvalen gjordes till följd av covid-19. Som grund till vår uppsats har vi valt teorier om passion, motivation, självledarskap, work-life balance samt roll och identitet. Dessa används för att analysera den insamlade empirin från intervjuerna. Resultatet visar att oberoende på vilket yrke respondenterna har känner de alla samma glädje och tacksamhet över att kunna ha sin passion som yrke. Deras motivation kommer inifrån då glädjen över själva utövandet och önskan om att hela tiden utvecklas är det som dagligen driver dem till att fortsätta. Studien visar även att det finns utmaningar med dessa yrken. En av dessa är att respondenterna kan känna en så stark dragningskraft till deras passion att de andra delarna i livet hamnar i konflikt med passionen.

The internal factors, which are able to affect entrepreneur’s behaviors during the whole entrepreneurship life cycle, are gradually becoming a hot topic in both practical and academic research fields. Especially for some of the famous researchers, such as Melissa Cardon and Mitchell, J.R. are leading the academic research of the relation between entrepreneurial emotions (e.g., passion and fear) and behaviors. In this study, our objective is to understand how passion and fear effect student entrepreneur’s behaviors when they are running their businesses at the early stage of entrepreneurship. Moreover, semi structured interview has been chosen to collect qualitative materials for this Master thesis paper. In this case, eight student entrepreneurs from Linnaeus University in Vaxjo, Sweden who are studying and running their business at the same time, or have finished their study already but started their business while they were students are selected by us for doing the interview. Furthermore, we broadly discussed about different stages of entrepreneurship, also entrepreneurial passion and fear along with entrepreneurial internal emotions such as cognition, self-regulation, self-efficacy, persistence, which could influence student entrepreneurs’ behaviors to start up their business and afterwards. Finally, after empirical analyzing we found that the bright side of passion and fear have positive effects on student entrepreneurs’ behaviors, whilst the negative effects of passion and fear can hinder their behaviors during the early entrepreneurial process.

Mais si l'epistemocritique reussit a donner a voir le reseau, a pointer vers les modeles, elle le fait souvent au detriment de l'integrite de son objet, par quoi nous entendons sa textualite, sa litteralite, sa litterarite. Gardant le souci epistemocritique de mettre a jour le savoir qui informe telle ou telle representation, nous nous proposons, tout a la fois, et sans rien ceder ni sur l'un ni sur l'autre, de poser la question de la subjectivite a l'oeuvre dans l'ecriture. Tabulaire, le modele serresien qui est notre est topologique, qui permet la mise en place d'une serie de figures organisee autour du principe d'isomorphie. D'ou l'hypothese suivante: sous-tendue par le pathos, la saisie diderotienne du monde et du sujet s'elabore dans une pratique discursive qui manifeste, dans sa propre economie, le regime pathique qui l'informe. Convoquant successivement les figures de l'interference, du nuage, de la fievre, des vapeurs, et du bruit, qui sont autant de meteores, respectivement des systemes du savoir, du monde, du corps, de la femme, et du sujet comme communication, nous nous proposons de mettre en evidence l'economie taraxique de chacun des systemes convoques
Pathos speaks the turbulent episteme of the world, as well as the turbulence of the body. A structure emerges, mathematical, that is, arbitrary and complex, a structure which contemporary science sees as problematizing the simple passage from local to global phenomena. Outside of the ordered space of classical geometry; outside of the legal determinism of newtonian physics which ignores singularity; outside, as well, of the restrictive rules of a former poetics, diderot's works demonstrate a genuine passion for complexity -- for a universe invested of relations, in which the classical metaphysics of substance is abolished. Recent works, such as diderot. Le labyrinthe de la relation by pierre saint-amand (1984) and nature et liberte chez diderot apres l'encyclopedie by gerhardt stenger (1994), applying a heuristic method inspired by the works of michel serres to the works of diderot, insist on the importance of epistemological reflexion in diderot's writings in areas as diverse as music, painting, history, politics and, of course, literature. But if epistemocriticism -- for this is also the subject of this thesis -- succeeds in revealing relational networks and models, it often does so to the detriment of the integrity of its object, by which we mean its textuality, its literality, its literarity. By keeping in the forefront of our own reflexion serres' insistance on the literarity of the text, where knowledge and subjectivity coincide, we have attempted to expose, on the one hand, the knowledge which informs particular representations, and on the other hand, to pose the question of the effect of subjectivity in writing, without reducing the importance of one or the other. Serres' model, which we have adopted, being tabular in nature, is also topological, permitting the organization of series of isomorphic figures (interferences, clouds, fever, vapors, noise). This model inspires our hypothesis: underwritten by pathos, diderot's understanding of the world, and of the subject, is materialist in nature, allowing him to conceive simultaneously of the aleatory and the predictable, of order and chaos. La passion amoureuse définie comme une histoire d'Amour interdit ou impossible entre deux êtres, ou d'un être pour un autre, et qui se termine mal, sera ici approchée comme un mythe identitaire moderne. Il s'agira d'étudier ses récits à partir de la littérature principalement (de Tristan et Iseult à Belle du Seigneur), mais aussi à partir de quelques adaptations cinématographiques et d'entretiens. Nous verrons que ce récit se compose sous le schème de la renaissance. Ses trois mythèmes correspondent en fait aux trois étapes des rites de passage tels que définis par Van Gennep, et ses différentes « figures » relèvent de l'archétype de la renaissance. Le vécu amoureux comme expérience initiatique est alors ce qui peut donner sens à la vie. Cette étude met aussi en évidence l'importance des mythes et de l'imaginaire dans notre société et interroge le discours amoureux actuel
The passionate love defined as a banned or impossible love story between two individuals, or by an individual for another, which end badly, will here be covered like a modern identity myth. The love stories will be looked at through the angle of literature (from Tristan et Iseult to Belle du Seigneur), but also through movies and interviews. We will see that this story will be covered under the theme of the birth. Its three themes correspond to the three transition rituals as defined by Van Gennep, and its "characters" are the archetype of the birth. The lived love as an initiatory experience may be what gives a meaning to the life. This study highlights the importance of myths and imaginary in our society and raises questions on today's love speeches

Ce travail envisage une relecture du stoïcisme d’Épictète par une interprétation qui distingue deux manières d’aborder le concept de pathos. En utilisant la distinction entre passion et émotion, puis en la recoupant avec celle qu’Épictète propose entre « gémir » et « gémir intérieurement », l’auteur tente de répondre à quelques difficultés classiques que le Stoïcisme laisse en suspens et espère ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives de lecture des sentences d’Épictète. Sont ainsi réévaluées les questions du critère de la vérité (contre l’insuffisance de la phantasia kataleptiké), celle de la guérison des passions et celle de la relation que le philosophe Épictète lui-même entretient avec ses propres émotions. L’auteur propose, par le biais du questionnement sur les émotions, une interprétation du concept de prohairésis qui met au cœur de la pensée d’Épictète les notions d’oubli et de souvenir. La réflexion débouche alors sur une vision non stoïque du stoïcisme et sur une réhabilitation des émotions au sein de la pensée stoïcienne, concomitante à une conception intuitive de la vérité et une approche renouvelée de la question de la responsabilité dans un univers gouverné par le destin
The aim of this work is to give a new perspective on the stoicism of Epicetus. The author distinguishes two meanings of the word pathos, using the words emotions and passions. By the same time, the study of the difference beetween “to moan” and “to moan from within”, that Epictetus provides, brings new answers to some of the classical questions about stoicism, such as the problem of the criterion of the truth (because of the weaknesses of the theory of the phantasia kataleptike), the question of healing from passions, and the one of the relation that Epictetus himself has with his own feelings. While thinking on the emotions inside Epictetus system, an interpretation of the concept of prohairesis is also provided, that puts the ideas of forgetting and remembering in the center of Epictetus’ philosophy. It ends with a flexible and non rigid conception of the stoicism that accepts emotions in itself, and that provides a intuitive conception of the truth which goes together with a new approach of the question of responsibility in a world governed by the fate

Nous souhaitons ainsi mettre en évidence l'aspect plus positif de celle-ci au sens où elle peut être stimulante, motivante pour chacun d'entre nous. Il s'agit donc de faire sortir la passion amoureuse de son contexte pathologique et d'élaborer la quête passionnelle de chacun. Pour se faire, nous avons dégagé des hypothèses théoriques concernant son étiologie à travers l'analyse clinique des personnages des oeuvres littéraires mythiques telles que Tristan et Iseut, Roméo et Juliette, Les Liaisons dangereuses. La passion condense les thèmes suivants : passivité, destruction, transgression, manque, culpabilité, mort. . . La passion réactive des processus primaires de la relation archaïque autour de laquelle s'articulent des sentiments de toute-puissance et d'impuissance. Le sujet passionné vit momentanément un narcissisme par procuration, une quête fusionnelle, une omnipotence. . . De là nous avons mis en évidence au moyen d'entretiens et de tests de personnalité passés auprès de sept sujets, l'enjeu d'une passion amoureuse dans la réalité, les fantasmes, les pensées de l'être humain. Certains sujets l'acceptent, d'autres la réfutent pour diverses raisons que nous explorons (crainte de la dépendance, de la perte de contrôle de soi. . . ). Cependant, même si certains sujets n'osent pas s'engager dans une passion amoureuse, ils en ont besoin comme mobilisation d'énergie pulsionnelle et, projettent ce besoin à distance sur des personnages littéraires, cinématographiques. La fascination pour les oeuvres exposant une grande passion amoureuse s'explique par la recherche de perfection absolue, de limites, de désir impossible, d'émergence de phénomènes inconscients. .
Our work consists in studying the function of love passion in the everyday life and reality of individual. . . We would like to show the positive aspect of it, as it can be stimulating, motivating for all of us. So, it is necessary to wander passion from its pathological context, and to elaborate everyone's search of passion. To do so, we had to express theoretical assumptions concerning its etiology, through clinical analysis of characters in mythical work as : Tristan et Iseult, Roméo et Juliette, Les Liaisons dangereuses. Passion condenses these topics : possivity, destruction, transgression, lack, guiltiness, death. . . Passion reactivate primary processes in archaïc relation concerning feelings of potency and impotence. The passionate subject lives for a while in a narcissism by procuration, a fusional search, an omnipotence. From that, we showed, by means of interviews and personality tests on seven individuals, passion stake in reality, phantasm, human thoughts. Some subjects accept it, some do not for different reasons like fear of dependance, loss of self-control. Nevertheless, even if some subjects do not dose to involve themselves in passion, they need it as mobilization of pulsional energy and stand out that need on literary or cinematographic characters. Fascination for works relating strong passions can be explained by search of absolute perfection, limits, impossible desire, emergence of unconscious phenomenons
