Abstract:
This article investigates the aesthetic conclusions that the Canadian artists Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller draw from the basic phenomenon of listening—such as the “horizon of simultaneity” of sound and vision—in their own creation of their audio- and video-walks. It describes how their work functions as social experiments in the public sphere. The thesis is that their works “vampirize” sounds and actively assimilate them to natural acoustic tracks and traces, thus becoming affective traps for their pursuers. Cardiff and Miller lead the participants astray in their desire to actually “see” what is “only” to be heard. Thus an uncanny criminology of artificially laid traces is to be predicated on the seductiveness of the disembodied human voice as guiding narrative. Cardiff’s and Miller’s intriguing art form improvises a new way across the ravages of time by inventing new vestiges of the past.

Afonso, Catarina Inês, and Luisa D’ESPINEY. Reconstruction of Daily life: The Lived experience of the Family post-caregiver. Ludomedia, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.36367/ntqr.11.2022.e541.

Full text
Abstract:
Contextualization/Justification: Thinking about the family post-caregiver is recognizing the complexity inherent to the trajectory of care. Although the experience of caring has been widely explored, little is known about the experience of the post-caregiver, the reconstruction of their daily life is essential to understand the resumption of life of the family’s post-caregiver. Goal: This investigation started from the question: What is the post-caregivers’ experience in the reconstruction of their daily life? It aims to understand the post-caregivers' experience in the reconstruction of their daily life. This study is based on a phenomenological methodology with an interpretive design embedded in the Interpretative Phenomenological Approach. The eleven participants had been previously accompanied by an Integrated Continuous Care Team. Organization: An in-depth, unstructured interview was conducted, enabling participants to share significant moments after the decease of the person they had taken care of and to share how they reconstruct their daily life. The phenomenon of reconstruction daily life of this participants' is revealed in the dynamic of the simultaneous relationship: with the past, recalling what was experienced, with the present, in the recognition of the self as well as in their continuous response as they return to the world and to life and, with the future, envisioning an imaginary of challenges and uncertainties. It is in everyday life that participants are reconnected with themselves, with others and with the world. Final Considerations: Through this study, nurses will be able to access the lived experience of these post-caregivers and to challenge themselves in the way they provide care, valuing the expertise to pay attention, improving their intervention in presence. The Integrated Continuous Care Teams in the Community Care Units could be challenged to strengthen support networks for family’s post-caregivers in cooperation with other partners and social resources.

Abstract:
The modernisation of contemporary Russian higher pedagogical education places special demands on training of a competent specialist having outspoken professional position, well-formed readiness to adapt to the labour market, capable of self-development and educating learners in the conditions of rapidly changing reality. The formation of such personality is possible in the educational space of a university, being characterised by the unity of learners’ classroom and extracurricular activities, coordinated interaction of all participants of pedagogical process aimed at solving the common goal and specific tasks focused on high-quality training of future specialists. The formation of student’s personality as a future teacher has a number of stages coordinated with the process of learning at the university, in particular, with formation of certain knowledge base within the framework of academic discipline studies, acquisition of professional experience in the process of pedagogical training, study of perspective practices and experience of pedagogical activity. The proper attitude to accumulation, generalisation and popularisation of advanced pedagogical experience contributes to formation and development of professional mastery of both students of pedagogical profile and young teachers. The advanced pedagogical experience of winners and laureates of the national pedagogical mastership contests in the Russian Federation and CIS countries requires special research. An attempt of large-scale research of this unique practical experience and its implantation into the training process at pedagogical universities was undertaken by the Russian State Pedagogical University. The research results were tested at the All-Russian applied research conference with international participation “International Best Practices in Pedagogical Activity: Experience, Risks, Prospects”. The conference was presented with 102 papers by representatives of educational organisations from Russia and foreign countries, including Latvia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan. The aim of the conference was to discuss efficient practices of transformation of modern education aimed at updating its content by strengthening practical orientation and integration of higher and general education, exchange of experience among educators actively using modern educational technologies. The conference was held along the following directions: – Practical application of results of efficient pedagogical solutions and advantages of promising practices of pedagogical excellence aimed to improve the quality of education. – The system of young educators support: ideas and practices. – Digital learning environment: pedagogue’s new tools. – The teacher’s personality in innovative educational space. – Trends in pedagogical education development. – Learner’s individual trajectory as a resource for future teacher formation. – Best teaching practices: international and national experience. The conference participants discussed the pressing issues of organising the teaching process in general-education organisations and vocational guidance in higher education. The participants noted that such pedagogical transfer in modern conditions is one of the important and productive directions of searching for the ways to improve pedagogical mastery.

Ruck Keene, Hermione, and Lucy Green. Amateur and Professional Music Making at Dartington International Summer School. Edited by Roger Mantie and Gareth Dylan Smith. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780190244705.013.16.

Full text
Abstract:
Music summer schools in the United Kingdom offer a holiday context for “serious leisure” for amateurs, and high-level tuition for aspiring professionals. The majority exist in distinct spaces for either the vocational or avocational musician; Dartington International Summer School is anomalous in that it is attended by amateur, aspiring professional and professional musicians. Theories of leisure as symbol, play, and the other, and Bahktin’s theory of the “carnivalesque” are used in this chapter as lenses to view participant experience. Mantie’s concept of the learner-participant dichotomy sheds light on the clashes and complementarity arising from the differing intentions of the participants. The chapter discusses how the leisure-learning context of the summer school impacts on participants’ musical identity, and can serve both to challenge and reinforce hierarchical status relationships between vocational and avocational musicians.

Lucas, Glaura. Drums in the Experience of Black Catholicism in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Edited by Jonathan Dueck and Suzel Ana Reily. Oxford University Press, 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199859993.013.11.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter examines the role of the drums and their music in the formation and development of an Afro-Christian ritual called congado, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Being the main means for social interactions, music is viewed as a privileged context for the protection, reconstruction, performance, and transmission of spiritual and other cultural knowledge among Africans and their descendants since colonial times, and thus for the reinterpretation of the Catholic faith. Historical and contemporary forms of the congado ritual are discussed, based on ethnographic research of present-day rituals, on a study of the literature on Bantu cultures and on slavery in Brazil, and on analysis of the drums’ performances. The main argument is that music has been used by participants as a conscious means of cultural resistance and survival, being a strategic context for keeping interactions and exchanges with their ancestors as well as for intra-group communication and social relations.
