Abstract:
The objective of the study was to determine how visitors perceive park management method alternatives to preserve scenic beauty in Mounds State Park, and how other factors, such asvisitor characteristics and primary purpose for visiting the state park affected their preferences. Additionally, this study has presented a comparison of preferences for park management approaches between park managers and visitors, and a relationship between visitors' perceptions of scenic beauty and other factors. Furthermore, this study explored the contribution of a qualitative analysis. The result showed that visitor preferences for some park management approaches were influenced by sociodemographic characteristics, while visitor preferences for other park management approaches were influenced by the current state of scenic conditions in the park. Differences were observed between park manager's perceptions and visitors' perceptions. Visitors' perceptions of scenic beauty were related to whether or not they had visited the park in the past. Finally, it was clear that qualitative analysis was worthwhile for obtaining information that quantitative data could not provide.

Abstract:
This research has focussed on the development of a commercial business model (CBM) for providing tourism and support service based commercial activities in Victoria's national parks which also allowed for the protection of the parks natural values. National parks are vital if we as a nation are to retain our natural heritage - but the public sector land stewards of these important assets are facing increasing funding and user pressures. The result is a growing focus on the commercialisation of our national parks to provide services and generate the revenue required to maintain these assets. However, this has resulted in the exacerbation of a long existing conflict - these commercial operators are primarily focus on the achievement of a commercial return, while the land stewards' main responsibility is in the protection of the natural values of these assets. In completing this project an abductive research approach (using grounded theory) has been adopted. Specifically, the research activities undertaken included data collection via a number of techniques including stakeholder interviews, detailed examination of existing commercial arrangements, literature research on international approaches and models, development of a suggested commercial business model based on a synthesise of the research outcomes and, finally, obtaining user feedback. The use of the various data sources, and subsequent sourcing of user feedback facilitated the triangulation of the research results. The findings from this research challenge a number of the practices currently adopted in the structuring of commercial activities suggesting that these practices are inhibiting the quality of the service being provided to the national park visitor along with the level of protection being afforded to the parks natural values. The resulting CBM provides park managers with a framework for identification and structuring of commercial business activities, practical guidance on the actions required in the completion of a concession process and identification of a number of the relevant issues which need to be considered and addressed in establishing and managing a national park concession. The CBM has been developed specifically for application within Victoria's national parks (based on a public/private sector relationship). The output will also provide guidance on methods for embedding natural values on public/private sector relationships in other settings.

Master´s degree work which identifies some survival strategies and work maintenance used by the middle management of three corporations installed in Brazil, one of high North-American technology, other of telecommunication based on Portuguese, Spanish and Brazilian investment and the last one a national corporation with family control. The study reaches to context the growing importance of the middle gerency for contemporary organizations, to characterize this group of intermediary workers, delineate and differentiate some of their possible roles and show some their vulnerabilities. After that, it presents ten identified strategies which are a result of the analysis of fifteen managers´ interviews from those companies. While comparing the main identified strategies of the Brazilian professionals, it seems like there are patterns in their answers to changes in their professional environments which are related to the company structure level, to the position they occupy, to their work time inside the company and their networking, both inside and outside the company.
Trabalho de dissertação de mestrado que identifica algumas das estratégias de sobrevivência e de manutenção do trabalho utilizadas pela média gerência de três empresas instaladas no Brasil, uma de alta tecnologia de origem norte-americana, outra de telecomunicação de capital luso-espanhol-brasileiro e a última uma empresa nacional com controle familiar. O estudo busca contextualizar a crescente importância da média gerência para as organizações contemporâneas, caracterizar este grupo de trabalhadores intermediários, delinear e diferenciar alguns de seus possíveis papéis e apresentar algumas de suas vulnerabilidades. Em seguida apresenta dez estratégias identificadas resultantes da análise das entrevistas de quinze gerentes destas empresas. Ao comparar os principais conceitos apresentados por diversos autores sobre a média gerência com as estratégias identificadas dos profissionais brasileiros, percebe-se que há padrões em suas respostas às mudanças em seus ambientes profissionais e que estão relacionados às características do negócio, ao grau de estruturação da organização, à posição que ocupam, ao seu tempo de trabalho e em sua rede de relacionamentos dentro e fora da organização.

For protected areas worldwide, commercial tour operators are increasingly providing the services and products desired and needed by visitors to these areas. Given the engagement of both protected area managers and tour operators in protected areas, and inevitably with each other, it is critical that their relationship and its complexities are clearly understood. As such, the interests of managers and operators overlap insofar as that they work in the same locales, share some of the burden of service provision, and aim to offer a quality product. However, this study shows that they diverge in other ways, particularly given the commercial imperative that necessarily strongly influences the activities of their business, irrespective of its location. This thesis seeks to unpack the complexities of a relationship that is critically important both in terms of the quality of the tourism experiences offered by protected areas, and the conservation of such areas in the longer term. In order to obtain an understanding of the complexity of the interactions between protected area managers and tour operators, qualitative research methods were used, in which in-depth interviews provided a rich picture of the important diverse aspects and facets impacting on their relationships. This study found that both managers and operators considered the purpose of protected areas to be the conservation of biodiversity and their recreational use and enjoyment. Surprisingly, their similar values were unknown to them. A major influence on their relationships was their perceptions of power, with 'dominant' power largely based on legislative and regulatory mandates, perceived to rest with the protected area managers. In contrast, this study also found evidence of 'resistant' power. This form of Foucauldian power was held particularly by operators in one geographic locale, and was associated with the concepts of cultural groupings and groupthink. The underlying public policy context influenced the effectiveness of the collaborative efforts of managers and operators. Interwoven with these differences were variable expectations regarding the nature and purpose of communication and what collaboration might 'mean'. These findings importantly suggest several future directions for both practice and research. First, managers and operators share values and hold both similar and different expectations and perceptions, similarities and differences which are significant. Secondly, understanding the importance of power and how it is exercised is critical if successful relationships between managers and operators are to be fostered. Finally, further unpackaging of the meaning of communication and collaboration for managers and operators, a process initiated in this study, is essential if relationships between these groups involved in conservation and recreation in protected areas are to be improved. Therefore, this study suggests that their collaboration can be enhanced at individual, organisational/locale and policy levels, by adopting and implementing an action research framework.

Abstract:
This thesis concerns the relatively recent phenomenon of part-time managers and professionals. The focus is the part-time working arrangement (PTWA) and specifically the process by which it emerges and develops, building on existing literature on working-hours preferences, the role of the organization in part-time working and alternative work organization for temporal flexibility. Two large private-sector organizations, each operating in the UK and the Netherlands, provided four different research sites for narrative interviews with 39 part-time managers and professionals. The key contribution to knowledge is to identify the process of developing a PTWA as a combination of the formal negotiation of a flexibility task i-deal and an informal process of job crafting. In a situation of high constraint – where the individual’s goals conflict with organizational norms and expectations – the tensions between ‘being part-time’ and ‘being professional’ necessitated identity work at each stage, as individuals constructed a ‘provisional self’ which in turn enclosed each stage of the development of the PTWA. The four stages were: first, evaluation of alternative options, including postponing the transition to part- time until more appropriate circumstances arise; secondly, preparation of the individual business case for part-time; thirdly, formal negotiation of a flexibility task i-deal; and finally an informal, unauthorized adaptation of the arrangement over time. Collaborative crafting of working practices (predictability, substitutability, knowledge management) provided greater opportunities for adaptation than individual activities. This study’s contribution to theory in the nascent field of part-time managers and professionals is a process model which suggests how three sets of discourses act as generative mechanisms at each stage of the emergence and development of the PTWA, creating or destroying ‘action spaces’. These discourses are: the perceived ‘nature’ of managerial and professional work, the perception of part-time as a personal lifestyle choice, and the understanding of part-timers as either ‘other’ or the ‘new normal’.

Abstract:
Objectives – The purpose of this research was to gain insight into the information behaviour of health service managers as they informed critical decisions unrelated to individual patient care. Methods – This research used two series of qualitative interviews, documentary analysis (a calendar study), a card sorting exercise and a demographic questionnaire to explore the workplace information practices of health service managers. Thirty-six managers were interviewed. Both interview studies used the critical incident technique and cross case analysis. Results are reported with observations and conclusions supported with interview content. The Second Interview Study also used within case analysis in the form of information transaction mapping. Information transactions, calendar study and card sorting exercise data were reported quantitatively. Results – Findings included that these health service managers practiced satisficing, integrating and balancing multiple types of information from multiple sources to inform their decisions until they reached the point of information saturation. After this point, additional information would not make a difference to their decision. Their dominant means of acquiring information was oral information sharing over information seeking. Conclusions – Healthcare services managers support decisions with both facts and value-based information. Lower levels of managers and hybrid managers might benefit from library and information services designed to support them as information gatekeepers. The findings may also encourage health researchers and health research funders to make sure their research informs information sources that health service managers find most convenient to use. These include explicit information such as professional standards, and interpersonal sources such as positional information gatekeepers, experts and conferences.

El presente plan de negocio de negocio propone y evalúa el desarrollo y viabilidad del proyecto de Work Media, una agencia de Community Manager que ofrece las facilidades a profesionales independientes en distintas zonas de Lima. La propuesta de valor de este plan de negocio gira en torno a dos aspectos fundamentales, el enfoque al profesional independiente que no tiene tiempo de manejar sus redes sociales y sacarle provecho a estas mismas, para atraer a más clientes. Debido a la evolución digital que constantemente avanza, las redes sociales son un medio indispensable para las personas hoy en día. En la actualidad, las profesiones independientes suelen ofrecer sus servicios por Instagram, Facebook o LinkedIn. Pero hemos evidenciado que estas no les resultan como ellos querían debido a falta de tiempo de poder interactuar con las consultas por estas redes o por no saber exactamente que postear. En este sentido, surge el concepto del Community Manager como propuesta enfocada hacia profesionales independientes. En el Perú según RCR (2020) “900 mil profesionales que prestan servicios emitiendo recibos por honorarios”. Mediante nuestro plan de negocio, Work Media se propone la idea de una agencia de Community Manager donde nuestro mercado objetivo son los profesionales independientes, cuyas edades están comprendidas entre 25 y 60 años, que tiene una carrera profesional y están dentro de un nivel socioeconómico A y B, que radica en la provincia de Lima y que se sientan atraídos por hacer impulsar sus servicios como profesionales a través de las redes sociales.
This business plan proposes and evaluates the development and viability of Word Media project, a Community Manager agency that offers facilities to independent professionals who lives in different areas of Lima. The business plan value proposition revolves two fundamental aspects, the first one is focus on independent professionals who does not have time to manage their social networks and, the other one is taking advantage of them, to attract more clients. Due to constantly digital evolution advancing, in these days, Social Media is an indispensable medium for people. Nowadays, freelancers often offer their services on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn. But we have shown that these do not turn out as they wanted due to a lack of time to interact with the queries on these networks or because they do not know exactly what to post. In this sense, the Community Manager concept arises as a proposal focused on independent professionals. In Peru according to RCR (2020) there are “900 thousand professionals who provide services by issuing receipts for fees”. Through our business word, Work Media proposes the idea of ​​a Community Manager agency where our target market is independent professionals, the ages are between 25 and 60 years old, who have a professional career and are within a socioeconomic level A y B, who lives in the province of Lima and are attracted to promoting their services as professionals through social networks.

A new revolution is happening: the Internet of Things, a new wave of technologies where it is possible to connect everyday objects to the Internet. Among these technologies, one of the most criticai is the Wireless Sensor Networks. A Wireless Sensor Network consists of several elements called Sensor Nodes, which collect environmental information such as light, temperature and air quality, providing data to applications on the Internet, usually through an intermediate element called the Gateway. For a Wireless Sensor Network to work properly, it is essential that the elements that make it are managed efficiently. However, there is a shortage of available management solutions, especially when these Wireless Sensor Networks are installed in known environments, such as office buildings, factories, homes and cities. The lack of management tools is one of the main factors that hinder the deployment of Wireless Sensor Networks and consequently the Internet of Things. The purpose of this work is to provide a centralized management platform for Wireless Sensor Networks installed in known environments. Conceptually, this platform is called the Proxy Manager, hosted by the network gateway. The platform is able to communicate with a Network Manager and other applications located on the Internet through web services, receiving management parameters and providing summarized data. The Proxy Manager functionalities are split into two management categories: network infrastructure and application, which in turn are divided into Configuration, Performance and Fault management. In this work, the implemented functionalities relating to the network infrastructure management are: Proxy Manager and Sensor Node configuration; route finding through RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) and number of hops to the Sensor Node; performance monitoring via PER (Packet Error Rate); fault recovery using alternative routes and the generation of alerts to the network administrator. Regarding the application management, the functionality implemented is the sensor configuration, since this will effectively collect the data. Tests of the features implemented were done, involving the establishment of routes, performance monitoring, disaster recovery, data collection and platform performance. The tests showed that the proposed solution is functional. Finally, it is anticipated that this work will contribute to the study and implementation of new management functionalities and Wireless Sensor Networks interconnection.

Uma Rede de Sensores sem Fio consiste em v?rios elementos denominados N?s Sensores, os quais coletam grandezas do meio ambiente, tais como luz, temperatura e qualidade do ar, disponibilizando as mesmas para aplica??es na Internet, normalmente atrav?s de um elemento intermedi?rio denominado gateway. Para o bom funcionamento de uma Rede de Sensores sem Fio, ? imprescind?vel que os elementos que a comp?em sejam gerenciados de maneira eficiente. No entanto, h? uma escassez de solu??es de ger?ncia dispon?veis, principalmente quando estas s?o voltadas para ambientes previamente conhecidos, como pr?dios comerciais, ind?strias, resid?ncias e cidades. Esta escassez de ferramentas de ger?ncia ? um dos principais fatores que dificultam a implanta??o maci?a de Redes de Sensores sem Fio e, consequentemente, da Internet das Coisas. Sendo assim, a proposta deste trabalho ? apresentar uma plataforma de gerenciamento centralizado para Redes de Sensores sem Fio, instaladas em ambientes conhecidos. Conceitualmente, esta plataforma se denomina Proxy Manager, e ficar? hospedada no gateway da rede. A mesma ? capaz de se comunicar com um Gerente de Rede e outras aplica??es localizadas na Internet atrav?s de web services, recebendo par?metros de ger?ncia e disponibilizando dados sumarizados. As funcionalidades do Proxy Manager s?o divididas em dois focos de ger?ncia: da infraestrutura da rede e da aplica??o, as quais s?o subdivididas nas ?reas de ger?ncia de Configura??o, Desempenho e Falhas. No trabalho em quest?o, as funcionalidades implementadas referentes ? ger?ncia da infraestrutura da rede foram: configura??o do Proxy Manager e dos N?s Sensores; estabelecimento de rotas para os mesmos tendo como base a RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) e o n?mero de saltos para os N?s Sensores; monitoramento de desempenho atrav?s da PER (Packet Error Rate); e recupera??o de falhas, atrav?s do estabelecimento de rotas alternativas e gera??o de alertas para o administrador da rede. Abstract:
MBA type programmes have grown apace in the U.K. since the 1960s. As demand for full-time MBA courses begins to level off, part-time executive masters courses are the fastest growing form of masters programme in business schools. The participants on such courses are in both worlds of academia and business and might be thought to bridge the gap between both these worlds, which are often said to be too far apart. The purpose of this thesis is to report the experience of part-time management education at masters level from the manager-learners' point of view. Longitudinal field research was carried out over a two year period with a group of part-time MBA students. While they were concerned to learn accountancy, marketing, finance, strategy, organisational behaviour, statistics and more, the researcher was concerned to learn how they socially constructed this learning experience. The perspectives of symbolic interactionism end ethnomethodology inform the analysis which examines member's interactional practices for managing to survive the course. Part I outlines the history of management education and development in the U.K. focussing upon the debate Over the MBA qualification. It also reviews some of the work in the fields of educational research, evaluation research and the sociology of education, which indicates the need for basic ethnographic research in the field of management education. Part II discusses the methodology and perspective of the field research including the researcher's autobiographical reasons for adopting the approach used. Part III contains the substantive chapters which describe and analyses the part-timers' experience of the programme. The first two chapters in this section broadly set the scene, aspects of which are examined in closer detail in subsequent chapters. Throughout, the perspectives of symbolic interactionism and athnomethodology are drawn upon for the purpose of enriching the insights into and analysis of the manager-learners' experience. Part IV concludes by discussing some of the methodological issues arising from the field research - from the practical to the perspectival - and some of the substantive issues concerning the members' social constitution of everyday life on the course. Este estudo teve por objectivo compreender e avaliar em que medida a composição dos corpos dirigentes do sector público administrativo espelha, no que respeita às suas habilitações literárias, uma mudança no seu perfil, em resultado da adopção, nas últimas décadas, em Portugal, de uma reforma administrativa de pendor gestionário. Visou-se caracterizar a Administração Portuguesa ao nível da gestão de recursos humanos; identificar e analisar o enquadramento legal relacionado com os perfis de direcção na Administração Pública Central do Estado; descrever as políticas de reforma administrativa em Portugal; comparar os perfis dos dirigentes actuais com os dos dirigentes dos anos 80 do século passado; e, por último, avaliar as possíveis alterações registadas em tais perfis. Para tal, criou-se uma base de dados, procurando dar resposta às questões supracitadas, sustentada nas nomeações dos dirigentes da Administração Pública Central do Estado, através da consulta e análise do Diário da República no período de 2007 a 2014. Os dados foram sujeitos a uma análise qualitativa da informação, com enfoque nos seguintes elementos: habilitações literárias na área genérica de formação; formação específica (gestionária ou não); valorização profissional; idade e, por fim, género.
The purpose of this study is to understand and evaluate how the composition of the managing body of the administrative public sector mirrors, considering academic qualifications, a change in profile resulting from an adoption of an administrative management reform in Portugal, in the previous decades. The aim is to define the Portuguese Administration on a human resources management level, to identify and analyse the legal framework related to management level profiles in State Central Public Administration, to describe administrative reform policies in Portugal, to compare profiles of current senior managers with those from the nineteen-eighties, and lastly, to evaluate the possible changes registered in those profiles. To carry this out, a data base was created to research the above-mentioned questions based on the nomination of managers for the State Central Public Administration, through research and analysis of the Diário da República (Official Gazette) from 2007 to 2014. The data was subjected to a qualitative analysis of information with emphasis on the following elements: academic qualifications in the generic field of training, specific training (managerial or not), professional enhancement, age and lastly, gender.

A Iluminação Pública (IP) está num momento de profundas mudanças, principalmente com a popularização da tecnologia LED e dos sistemas de controle a distância. O gestor de serviços públicos precisa conhecer a complexidade do uso final da IP para que possa gerir esse ativo direcionado às necessidades dos usuários, tendo em vista o dinamismo de evolução diária dos centros urbanos. Este estudo tem por objetivo desenvolver uma metodologia que permite levantar, cadastrar, diagnosticar e avaliar, o parque de IP existente em ambientes urbanos. Tem como questão de pesquisa: Como prover os gestores de serviços públicos de conhecimento da situação dos ativos de IP? Trata-se de uma pesquisa observacional e descritiva, desenvolvida em uma região que compreende uma área de 26,5 km², com uma população de 344.632 habitantes, localizada em uma região metropolitana brasileira. A metodologia aplicada divide-se em dois momentos: pesquisa documental e de campo. Inicia-se com um levantamento de documentações a respeito da vida pregressa do acervo, disponíveis nos escritórios da Concessionária de Energia local e da Prefeitura Municipal. Posteriormente procede-se uma identificação do perfil da cidade, onde o sistema de iluminação está inserido, buscando compreender como o sistema de IP instalado está integrado às necessidades da população. Essas primeiras ações visam recolher subsídios para a etapa seguinte, de levantamento técnico em campo, que buscou identificar não só os atributos de IP existentes para atualização cadastral, como também identificou anomalias que estavam atrapalhando o desempenho do sistema e a influência provocada pelo meio onde está inserido. A metodologia pode ser uma ferramenta que contribui para a gestão do serviço de IP inserida dentro dos centros urbanos, possibilitando a adoção de medidas de ajustes que visem dotar o acervo de IP de uma estrutura de manutenção direcionada para cada região da cidade, considerando sua especificidade e perfil dos usuários. Antes de qualquer adoção de novas tecnologias, como por exemplo lâmpadas LED, telecomando, etc., é imprescindível que se tenha um diagnóstico do acervo existente e a identificação do uso final da IP no meio em que se encontra.
Public lighting is in a moment of deep changes, especially with the popularization of LED technology and distance control systems. The public manager must know the complexity of the final use of public lighting that can then manage those assets directed to the needs of users, given the dynamism of daily evolution of urban centers. This study aims to develop a methodology that allowed: to collect data, to register, to diagnose and evaluate the existing street lighting park in urban environments. It had as research issue: How to provide public service managers knowledge concerning to public lighting of the current situation? This is an observational and descriptive research, developed in a region that covers an area of 26.5 km², with a population of 344,632 inhabitants located at a Brazilian region metropolitan. The method used is divided into two stages: the documentary and field research. It begins with a survey of documentation regarding the early life of the acquis in order, available at the offices of the local Power Concessionaire and Municipal Government. Later there shall be an identification of the city profile, where the lighting system is inserted, seeking to understand how is the installed street lighting system integrated into the population\'s needs. These first actions aimed at garnering information for the next stage, technical field survey, which sought to identify not only the existing street lighting attributes for the database update, as well as to identify anomalies that were hindering the system performance and the influence caused by the means in which it operates. The questionnaire presented in this study, can be a tool that contributes to the management of public lighting inserted in urban centers, allowing the adoption of adjustment measures to provide the public lighting acquis of a maintenance structure directed to each region of the city, considering its specificity and user profiles. Before any adoption of new technologies, such as LED lamps, remote control, etc., it is essential to have a diagnosis of the existing acquis and the identification of the end-use of public lighting in the environment in which it is located.

Research question: How has the presence of PT employees affected the role of managers in the Swedish food retail business? Research purpose: The purpose of this paper was to describe the change that accompanies part-time employment from a management perspective, and particularly, describe how the presence of part-time employment has influenced the role of the manager within the Swedish food retail business. Conceptual framework: The main focused in this chapter is directed towards the role of managers. The basis of the conceptual framework consist of the model developed by Mintzberg including the ten managerial roles and Quinn's eight leadership roles and how the presence of PT employments might affect these roles. Methodology: In this paper, the authors adopted a qualitative design and used narrative inquiry as a research strategy in order to gain a deep understanding of the context. Semi- structured interviews have been collected through a self-selection sampling and the total number of participants was ten. Conclusions: Based on the findings of this paper the presence of PT employees have not influenced and changed the role of managers. The changes that have influenced and caused the change of the role of the managers constitutes of the increased workload, the delegations of tasks and responsibilities, changed positions, the change of the organisational structure of the individual store, and the increased workforce.

Este estudo situa-se na linha de pesquisa de gestão de pessoas e práticas gerenciais com o propósito de analisar os requisitos de habilidades gerenciais para o cargo de primeira liderança dentro da área financeira nas organizações. Identifica-se como gestor de primeira liderança, o funcionário que não contribui sozinho para o resultado da organização e possui o gerenciamento de equipe como uma de suas atribuições, geralmente, aquele que detém o cargo de coordenador ou supervisor nas empresas. Neste sentido, esta pesquisa encontra-se fundamentada em referências bibliográficas e estudos já desenvolvidos sobre as competências gerenciais e liderança. Para atingir os objetivos desta investigação, foi realizada uma pesquisa qualitativa em três fases: (i) definição do modelo de habilidades gerenciais a partir da revisão bibliográfica e do mapeamento para coleta de dados; (ii) aplicação de entrevistas com apoio de roteiro semiestruturado aos gestores que exercem o cargo de primeira liderança na área financeira em organizações utilizando-se de amostragem por conveniência, a fim de aprofundar e capturar as percepções destes gestores de primeira liderança e; (iii) na última etapa, foi desenvolvido o mapa de requisitos de habilidades gerenciais para o cargo de primeira liderança. Como conclusão deste trabalho, espera-se agregar conhecimento para o desenvolvimento de líderes iniciantes, oferecer insights para treinamentos e identificar os gaps de habilidades gerenciais entre o esperado dos gestores que exercem o cargo de primeira liderança e o efetivamente observado por eles. Ademais, há potencial de aplicação prática com a introdução deste tema nas grades curriculares dos cursos de pós-graduação voltados aos gestores da área financeira. O acesso aos profissionais à realização das entrevistas e o tempo despendido na análise dos dados coletados destacaram-se como fatores críticos no sucesso desta pesquisa.
This study is in the research line of people management and managerial practices with the purpose of analyzing the managerial skills requirements for the position of first line manager within the financial area in organizations. It is identified as a first line manager, an employee who does not contribute to the organization's results alone and has team management as one of his duties, usually holds the position of coordinator or supervisor in companies. In this sense, this research is based on bibliographical references and already developed studies on management skills and leadership. To achieve the objectives of this research, a qualitative research was carried out in three phases: (i) definition of the managerial skills model from the bibliographic review and the mapping for data collection; (ii) application of interviews with semi-structured script support to managers who hold the position of first line manager in the financial area in organizations with use of convenience sampling, in order to deepen and capture the perceptions of these managers of first line manager and; (iii) in the last step, the map of managerial skills requirements for the position of first line manager was developed. As a conclusion of this work, it is hoped to aggregate knowledge for the development of beginning leaders, to offer training insights and to identify managerial skill gaps between what is expected of managers who hold the position of first line manager and what is effectively observed by them. In addition, there is potential of practical application with the introduction of this theme in the curricular grades of the postgraduate courses directed to the managers of the financial area. The access to the professionals to the interviews and the time spent in the analysis of the collected data stood out as critical factors in the success of this research.

This study examines how public management practitioners in small and medium-sized Florida cities perceive globalization and its impact on public management practice. Using qualitative analysis, descriptive statistics and factor analysis methods, data obtained from a survey and semi-structured interviews were studied to comprehend how public managers view the management and control of their municipalities in a time of globalization. The study shows that the public managers’ perceptions of globalization and its impact on public management in Florida’s small-medium cities are nuanced. Whereas some public managers feel that globalization has significant impacts on municipalities’ viability, others opine that globalization has no local impact. The study further finds that globalization processes are perceived as altering the public management functions of decision-making, economic development and service delivery in some small-medium cities in Florida as a result of transnational shifts, rapidly changing technologies, and municipalities’ heightened involvement in the global economy. The study concludes that the globalization discourse does not resonate among some public managers in Florida’s small-medium cities in ways implied in extant literature.

The present study aimed to seize and analyze narratives that reflect managerial concerns with the development of competence and ethical values in their daily management, identifying experiences that materialize such purposes into competent actions. The theoretical framework of interpretative skills left from the perspective offered by Sandberg and Tamarga (2007), Le Boterf (2003) and Zarifian (2001). A review of national and international literature on skills beyond the maximization of profits associated the term to a set of constructs such as ethics, values, social responsibility, environment, social justice, among others. This search revealed that these studies focus mainly on the environment of the classroom courses in business administration at the expense of organizational field and theoretical work. With the aim of contributing to an empirical study in this field, a survey of seven executives of different areas of five companies in the retail segment was developed. The study was supported by the proposed thematic analysis of narratives Riessman (2008). The results showed not only a difficulty for managers in dealing with the issue and telling stories that relate to examples of materialization of the skills that were not aimed at making a profit for shareholders and performance, as the examples outsourced were mostly negative, illustrating, above all, the lack of ethical competence. Skills and ethical values were associated, especially: to the company's ability to maintain a coherent attitude on unethical behavior by imposing consequences for deviations; respect to others; coherence between discourse and practice, the sense of justice, the ability to cope and assume errors, the achievement of organizational ethical standards, honesty and transparency. The narratives revealed the belief that ethical competence and values are inherent to human beings, and because of that, it is not up to them reinforcing that they encourage their development. There are few indications in their speeches of the existence of stimulus for reflection on this kind of organizational competence in the universe, which imposes clear limits to its development. At the end, the narratives give us clues about the relevance and urgency of discussing ethics and values in studies of human competence at work.
O presente trabalho teve por objetivo apreender e analisar narrativas gerenciais que refletem preocupações com o desenvolvimento das competências éticas e de valores no cotidiano de sua gestão, identificando experiências que materializam tais propósitos em ações competentes. O arcabouço teórico de competências partiu da perspectiva interpretativa oferecida por Sandberg e Tamarga (2007), Le Boterf (2003) e Zarifian (2001). A revisão da literatura nacional e internacional sobre competências para além da maximização de lucros associou o termo a um conjunto de construtos como ética, valores, responsabilidade social, meio ambiente, justiça social entre outros. Esta busca revelou que esses estudos se concentram, sobretudo, no ambiente das salas de aulas dos cursos de administração de empresas, em detrimento do campo organizacional, e trabalhos de natureza teórica. Com o propósito de contribuir com um estudo empírico nesse campo, desenvolveu-se uma pesquisa com sete executivos de diferentes áreas de atuação de cinco empresas do segmento varejista. O estudo baseou-se na proposta de análise temática de narrativas de Riessman (2008). Os resultados revelaram não só uma dificuldade dos gestores em tratar do tema e contar histórias que remetessem a exemplos de materialização de competências que não fossem as voltadas para obtenção de lucro para acionistas e desempenho, como os exemplos externalizados foram em sua maioria negativos, ilustrando, sobretudo, a falta de competência ética. Competências éticas e de valores foram associadas, especialmente: à capacidade da empresa manter uma postura coerente diante de comportamentos antiéticos, impondo consequências aos desvios; ao respeito ao próximo; à coerência entre o discurso e a prática; ao senso de justiça; à capacidade de lidar e assumir erros; ao cumprimento dos padrões éticos organizacionais, à honestidade e transparência. As narrativas revelaram a crença de que competência ética e de valores são inerentes ao ser humano e, em virtude disso, reforçam que não cabe a eles fomentarem o seu desenvolvimento. Há poucas indicações em seus discursos da existência de estímulos para a reflexão sobre esta natureza de competência no universo organizacional, o que impõe claros limites ao seu desenvolvimento. Ao final, as narrativas nos dão pistas sobre a pertinência e urgência de se discutirem éticas e valores em estudos sobre a competência humana no trabalho.

Esse trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar um estudo sobre a viabilidade de implementação do VMI - Vendor Managed Inventory considerando-se que, nos dias atuais, um dos principais desafios logísticos das empresas se relaciona à cadeia de suprimentos, seja ela direcionada para o gerenciamento, para o planejamento ou até mesmo para o controle. Considerou-se na pesquisa o estoque gerenciado pelo fornecedor uma ferramenta de abastecimento e reabastecimento da cadeia de suprimentos e para essa tecnologia torna-se necessário, uma total parceria entre fornecedor e cliente, aprimorando-se assim, os rendimentos operacionais e a qualidade da prestação de serviços, com a minimização de prazos e aumento da competitividade. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória através da coleta de dados junto a Associação Brasileira de e-business, Panorama do cenário do Supply chain e ações colaborativas nas empresas brasileiras, realizada com 36 empresas em Novembro de 2005 e uma pesquisa composta de 10 (dez) clientes de distribuição de autopeças do mercado de reposição de borrachas, buchas e coxins automotivos representando 47 filiais no território brasileiro. Dentre os resultados obtidos, destaca-se que para se obter a eficácia dos recursos sistêmicos no setor da cadeia de abastecimento de uma empresa no mercado de reposição, é importante a integração para a cadeia de abastecimento, descrevendo de forma integrada, os níveis competitivos e os ambientes em que a empresa está inserida e se conclui que a VMI - Vendor Managed Inventory é uma aplicabilidade que está em evidência conforme mostrado na pesquisa exploratória e determinante na redução dos atrasos e melhoria ao atendimento no mercado que está inserido.
This work aims to present a study on the feasibility of implementing VMI - Vendor Managed Inventory - considering that, today, a major logistical challenges of companies relates to the supply chain, whether it is directed to the management, for planning or even control. It was considered in the survey vendor managed inventory tool supply and replenishment supply chain and this technology becomes necessary, a full partnership between supplier and customer, thus improving the operating income and the quality of provision services, with the minimization of time and increased competitiveness. This is an exploratory research by collecting data from the Brazilian Association of e-business, "Panorama scene of Supply chain and collaborative actions in Brazilian companies," with 36 companies in November 2005 and a survey consisting of 10 (ten) distribution customers of auto parts aftermarket rubber, automotive bushings and cushions representing 47 branches in Brazil. Among the results, it is noteworthy that to obtain the effectiveness of systemic industry supply chain of a company in the aftermarket, it is important for integrating the supply chain, describing in an integrated, competitive levels and the environments in which the company operates and concludes that VMI - Vendor Managed Inventory is an applicability that is in evidence as shown in exploratory and instrumental in reducing delays and improving service to the market that is inserted.

The aim of the study was to describe how managers at the eldercare system especially in nursing homes work to ensure high quality care. For this purpose, a qualitative method was used in this study and four managers at nursing home have been interviewed. Previous studies have shown that managers in some cases are restricted in their actions and that this may slow down the improvement of the care. At the same time the managers describe their work as demanding and diverse. They have a significant staff responsibility, meaning that they have to ensure the quality of care.  In this study, some previous results have been confirmed for example that the managers feel that they have an impact on the quality of care, that managers value their contacts with staff, patients and relative highly and that their main purpose is the quality of care. The data was analyzed using one of many role theories and with different descriptions of leadership. The results show that the managers are working to ensure that the quality of the care is high by ensuring that the staff is competent, participating in development meetings, maintaining good contact with serval actors like staff, patients and relative, providing staff training courses and involving the staff in developing a more productive environment. Therefore, the managers have more impact on how good the quality of the care is than one might think.

Após o estabelecimento do modelo conceitual do Método, e dos passos para sua aplicação, Método é testado em uma Instituição de Ensino Superior real, e um perfil profissiográfico é obtido para esta instituição. The study develops a Method to the elaboration of the professional profile of the egress of Management Undergraduate courses, as a didactic planning tool. After establishing the Methods conceptual model, as well as the steps of its implementation, the Method is tested in a real Management Undergraduate Institution, and a professional profile is accomplished for this institution. Then the profile is validated by the criteria established in the conceptual model: comparisons with profiles obtained by other researches, comparison with profiles from other institutions, and experts opinions.

A computa??o em nuvem pode ser definida como um modelo computacional distribu?do atrav?s do qual s?o compartilhados recursos (hardware, armazenamento, plataformas de desenvolvimento e comunica??o) na forma de servi?os pagos e acess?veis com um esfor?o m?nimo de gest?o e intera??o. Um grande benef?cio desse modelo ? possibilitar a utiliza??o de variados provedores (i.e. uma arquitetura multiplataforma) para compor um conjunto de servi?os no intuito de obter uma configura??o ?tima em desempenho e custo. Entretanto, a utiliza??o multiplataforma ? impossibilitada pelo problema de cloud lock-in. O cloud lock-in ? a depend?ncia entre uma aplica??o e uma plataforma de nuvem. Ele ? comumente endere?ado por tr?s estrat?gias: (i) uso de camada intermedi?ria que se interp?e aos consumidores de servi?os de nuvem e o provedor, (ii) uso de interfaces padronizadas para acesso a nuvem, ou ainda (iii) uso de modelos com especifica??es abertas. Este trabalho define uma abordagem para avaliar estas estrat?gias. Tal abordagem foi executada e observou-se que apesar dos avan?os conseguidos por estas estrat?gias, nenhuma delas resolve efetivamente o problema do cloud lock-in. Neste sentido, esse trabalho prop?e o uso de Web Sem?ntica para evitar o cloud lock-in, onde modelos em RDF s?o usados para especificar os recursos de uma nuvem, que s?o gerenciados via consultas SPARQL. Nessa dire??o, esse trabalho: (i) apresenta um modelo avaliativo que quantifica o problema do cloud lock-in, (ii) avalia o cloud lock-in entre tr?s solu??es multi-cloud e tr?s plataformas de nuvem, (iii) prop?e utilizar RDF e SPARQL na ger?ncia de recursos de nuvem, (iv) apresenta o Cloud Query Manager (CQM), um servidor SPARQL que implementa a proposta, e (v) compara tr?s solu??es multi-cloud em rela??o ao CQM quanto ao tempo de resposta e a efetividade na resolu??o do cloud lock-in.
Cloud computing can be defined as a distributed computational model by through resources (hardware, storage, development platforms and communication) are shared, as paid services accessible with minimal management effort and interaction. A great benefit of this model is to enable the use of various providers (e.g a multi-cloud architecture) to compose a set of services in order to obtain an optimal configuration for performance and cost. However, the multi-cloud use is precluded by the problem of cloud lock-in. The cloud lock-in is the dependency between an application and a cloud platform. It is commonly addressed by three strategies: (i) use of intermediate layer that stands to consumers of cloud services and the provider, (ii) use of standardized interfaces to access the cloud, or (iii) use of models with open specifications. This paper outlines an approach to evaluate these strategies. This approach was performed and it was found that despite the advances made by these strategies, none of them actually solves the problem of lock-in cloud. In this sense, this work proposes the use of Semantic Web to avoid cloud lock-in, where RDF models are used to specify the features of a cloud, which are managed by SPARQL queries. In this direction, this work: (i) presents an evaluation model that quantifies the problem of cloud lock-in, (ii) evaluates the cloud lock-in from three multi-cloud solutions and three cloud platforms, (iii) proposes using RDF and SPARQL on management of cloud resources, (iv) presents the cloud Query Manager (CQM), an SPARQL server that implements the proposal, and (v) comparing three multi-cloud solutions in relation to CQM on the response time and the effectiveness in the resolution of cloud lock-in.

A recente evolução da tecnologia permitiu que uma enorme quantidade e variedade de dados ficassem disponíveis para as empresas a uma velocidade cada vez maior. Assim, as empresas passam a poder usufruir de mais informação para tomar decisões. Mas o Big Data, o Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) e os sistemas utilizados para trabalhar essas tecnologias, ainda são recentes e as empresas ainda procuram compreender de que forma é que os dados podem contribuir para reais ganhos de valor. Dada a variedade dos dados, foi escolhida a profissão de Gestor de Produto para ser estudada pois este interage com várias áreas da empresa, sendo considerado um mini-CEO. Assim, a questão de investigação é "De que forma é que o Big Data e o CRM influenciam a tomada de decisão do Gestor de Produto?", tendo este trabalho como objetivo compreender a importância que dois sistemas de dados, o Big Data e o CRM, têm para o Gestor de Produto e de que forma é que esses sistemas contribuem para as funções do mesmo. Para o efeito, foram realizadas entrevistas a peritos visando a compreensão do contexto da pesquisa e dos processos que estão a ser desenvolvidos. Por fim, os principais resultados indicam a importância da utilização de sistemas de CRM e da utilização do Big Data pelas empresas. Os resultados evidenciam que os dados contribuem para uma tomada de decisão mais informada, permitindo assim o Gestor de Produto tomar melhores decisões.
The recent evolution in technology has allowed an enormous amount and variety of data to be available for companies at a growing pace. Within this context, companies are capable of enjoying more information to allow them to reach decisions. However, Big Data and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and the systems that can be used to work this data are still fairly recent and therefore companies are still trying to understand in which way these figures can contribute can add real value. Considering the variety of data, the profession of Product Manager was chosen to be analysed as it mingles with different areas across the firm as well as being considered a mini CEO. Consequently, the question under focus here is "In what way does Big Data and CRM influence the decision-making process for the Product Manager?" This study aims to comprehend how important two data systems, Big Data and CRM, are to a product manager and how they impact its actions. Hence, an investigation has been conducted to comprehend the background of studies and methods being developed. This was achieved through qualitative research based on primary data obtained from semi structured interviews with experienced professionals within the industry. Finally, the main results indicate the importance of using CRM systems and the use of Big Data by the companies. The results show that data contribute to more informed decision making, thus allowing the Product Manager to make better decisions.

Abstract:
The Eden To Addo Corridor Initiative aims to connect formally protected areas in a conservation corridor from the coastal area of the Eden District near Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape, South Africa to the Addo National Elephant Park, Eastern Cape, South Africa. The corridor will incorporate government and privately owned land, and will be an attempt to maintain ecological processes at a range of spatial and temporal scales. The Langkloof Valley lies between the Baviaanskloof World Heritage Area and the Tstitsikamma National Park; two formally protected areas that will be incorporated into the Eden To Addo Corridor. Spatial prioritization analyses allow conservation planners to select areas that should be targeted for conservation action based on a range of criteria. Historically, ecological criteria have been included mostly alone in spatial prioritization. Recently, the idea of ‘conservation opportunity’ has emerged in the field of conservation planning; the notion suggests that a range of different types of data should be included in processes to spatially prioritise for conservation. By including those data defined as ‘human’ and ‘social’ data into prioritising activities, the feasibility of conservation plans can be accounted for, but historically conservation planners have failed to do so. I conducted a literature review that demonstrated that although the importance of human and social data are acknowledged in the conservation planning literature, these data that define opportunity are rarely actually included in spatial prioritisation analyses. I then carried out a social assessment that allowed me to define the social and human context of our study area and, specifically, what stewardship instruments land managers in the Langkloof would be prepared to engage. We found that land managers were generally willing to engage, but lacked the financial capacity to adopt conservation methods. Using a subset of the social and human data that were collected in the social assessment, I trialled a new Decision Support Software to fuse those data with ecological data in a novel attempt to identify priority areas for conservation action based on ecological integrity and feasibility. We also scheduled (ranked) land managers to approach for conservation action with a focus on local champions and clusters of land managers displaying strong conservation characteristics. Two corridors were identified; a major corridor in the western region of the valley and a secondary corridor closer to the middle. The members of the Initiative have been briefed on the outcomes, which provided them an opportunity to provide feedback; it is hoped that the framework of this study can be used for planning future connections. The Eden To Addo Corridor Initiative sent out a stewardship extension officer in February 2011 to approach those land managers areas that were identified. This planning exercise is a good demonstration of how, by collaborating effectively, academic conservation planners can contribute to supporting decision making by organizations that are implementing conservation action.

Por ser atual e emergente, o termo “Policy Advocacy” desperta a atenção das universidades, da sociedade civil e de esferas do poder público. Definida como um conjunto de estratégias de intervenção e mobilização para as demandas sociais preteridas, encobertas ou que contrariam interesses econômicos, a policy advocacy deve ser pensada como uma atuação de modo planejado e estratégico para alcançar os resultados e para fortalecer o processo de busca de mudanças e soluções para um problema público, para uma demanda ou para uma causa social. O presente estudo buscou investigar o uso de ferramentas para gerir uma mobilização social. A partir de metodologia com abordagem qualitativa, realizou um Estudo de Caso no curso de Graduação Tecnológica em Gestão Pública e Gestão Social da UFBA, a partir da experiência pedagógica “Um Dia de Civilidade no Trânsito”. Como resultado, apresenta-se cinco demandas necessárias para o desenvolvimento da ação/mobilização social como uma ferramenta de aprendizagem, com vistas a fortalecer e qualificar a participação nos espaços públicos de decisão e a consolidação da democracia participativa, além de um roteiro de boa prática para gerir ações de mobilizações sociais, com a descrição da estrutura inicialmente necessária e a organização das cinco frentes de trabalho. Being current and emerging, the term "Policy Advocacy" awakens attention from universities, civil society and spheres of power public. Defined as a set of intervention strategies and mobilization for the rejected or covert social demands or that are counter to economic interests, policy advocacy should be thought acting as a planned and strategic manner to achieve the results and to strengthen the search process of change and solutions to a public problem, or a demand for a social cause. This study investigates the use of tools to manage a social mobilization. From a qualitative methodology approach, it held a Case Study on Undergraduate course Technology in Public Management and Social Management Federal University of Bahia, from the pedagogical experience "A Day of Civility in Traffic ". As result, we present five demands required for development of action / social obilization as a tool learning, in order to strengthen and qualify the participation in public spaces of decision and the consolidation of democracy participatory, and a roadmap of best practice for managing actions of social mobilization, with the description of the structure initially necessary and the organization of the five topics.

A finalidade deste estudo é analisar a implementação do Programa Escola Integrada (PEI) pelo gestor escolar em duas escolas da Rede Municipal de Educação de Belo Horizonte e, a partir dessa análise, propor um Plano de Ação Educacional visando aprimorar esse processo. O Programa Escola Integrada (PEI), implantado em 2007 pela Prefeitura de Belo Horizonte, tem como objetivo melhorar a qualidade da educação a partir da ampliação da jornada escolar. A implantação do Programa Escola Integrada ocorre de forma vertical (Top/Down) e agrega novos atores ao processo de formação do aluno, gerando, no contexto da prática, alienação e críticas por parte dos diferentes profissionais que atuam no ensino regular. Nesse contexto, o processo de implementação torna-se um grande desafio para a gestão escolar no sentido de garantir a concretização dos objetivos propostos pela política. Para a realização do presente estudo, adotou-se a metodologia de estudo de caso de cunho qualitativo, com a coleta de dados realizada por meio de pesquisas documentais e entrevistas semiestruturadas com os educadores que atuam no processo de implementação do Programa e, também, com os gestores e docentes do ensino regular das escolas pesquisadas. O aporte teórico se deu por meio do diálogo com a produção acadêmica sobre o tema abordado. A análise das pesquisas realizadas nas Escolas A e B revelou que a implementação do Programa Escola Integrada foi dificultada por diversos fatores, entre eles: falhas no processo seletivo dos agentes culturais; desconhecimento dos objetivos do Programa por parte dos implementadores; falta de articulação do Programa com o ensino regular e o Projeto Político-Pedagógico da escola; e desconhecimento do Programa pelos usuários. Sendo assim, foi apresentado um Plano de Ação Educacional com ações a serem colocadas em prática pelo gestor escolar, visando o aprimoramento do processo de implementação do Programa Escola Integrada.
The purpose of this study is to assess the implementation of the Integrated School Program (IEP) at school manager in two schools of the Municipal Education of Belo Horizonte, and propose an Action Plan aimed Educational enhance this process. The Integrated School Program (IEP), established in 2007 by the city of Belo Horizonte, aims to improve the quality of education from the extension of the school day. The implementation of the program in schools occurs vertically (Top / Down), and from the role of new actors in the process of training the student in the context of generating practical alienation and resistance from various professionals working in the school. In this context the implementation process becomes a challenge for the school management to ensure the achievement of the objectives proposed by the policy. For this study, we adopted the methodology of case study with qualitative approach to data collection made from documentary research and semi-structured interviews with educators who work in the process of implementing the program, the managers and the mainstream education teachers of the schools surveyed. The theoretical approach was through a dialogue with the academic production about the topic. The analysis of research conducted in schools A and B revealed that the process of implementing the program is hampered by flaws in the selection process of cultural agents working in the implementation, the difficulty of linking the program with regular education, the ignorance of the aims by the implementers, lack of conjunction with the Politic Pedagogical School Project and the lack Program by users. Thus, we presented a Plan of Action with Educational actions to be put into practice by school management, aiming an improving process of implementing the program.

The aim of this study is to distinguish and analyze educational actions that contribute to the development of competencies in managers related to sustainability, considering learning as an underlying intrinsic process. To sustain this objective, a theoretical reason was sought which could explain the concepts of sustainability, education for sustainability, learning and competencies in the organizations. The investigation is a qualitative study proved by a case study. The strategy adopted for building the data was of semi-structured interviews, carried out with 15 managers, field observation and documentary analysis. The results showed that educational actions, of whose focus and methodological approach are related to sustainability, favor the development of specific competencies in managers, from the individual learning processes, although they are not determinant. Besides that, the results also evidenced that take part in corporate educational actions related to this subject increase and improve the speech of the managers, but it is not necessary showed in the daily activities of management.
O presente trabalho tem como objetivo conhecer e analisar ações educativas que contribuam para o desenvolvimento nos gestores de competências voltadas à sustentabilidade, considerando a aprendizagem como um processo subjacente intrínseco. Para embasar este objetivo, buscou-se um arcabouço teórico que levasse à compreensão dos conceitos de sustentabilidade, educação para sustentabilidade, aprendizagem e competências nas organizações. A investigação pode ser identificada como um estudo qualitativo, fundamentado em um estudo de caso. A estratégia adotada para a construção dos dados foi a de entrevistas semi-estruturadas realizadas com 15 gestores, observação de campo e análise documental. Os resultados demonstraram que ações educativas, cujo enfoque e abordagem metodológica sejam voltados ao tema da sustentabilidade, favorecem o desenvolvimento de competências específicas nos gestores, a partir das aprendizagens individuais ocorridas, embora não sejam determinantes. Também pode ser evidenciado que participar de ações educativas corporativas sobre este tema, amplia o discurso dos gestores, mas não necessariamente isto se reflete na prática diária de gestão.

The primary objective of the project was to survey audiologists in clinical practice setting to determine the amount of time taken to perform various audiologic tests using Current Procedural Terminology, (CPT) codes to define these tests and if these CPT codes were felt to be adequate. Audiologists were also asked to respond regarding possible impact and reimbursement changes in their clinical practices related to managed care. Responses of audiologists were analyzed to determine: a) adequacy of CPT codes; b)average time to perform various audiologic tests; c) impact managed care onclinical practice; and d) changes in reimbursement as a result of managed care. The survey was designed to determine the type of work setting, typical job duty, average monthly caseload and hours per day spent on patient care for each respondent. The survey with a cover letter explaining the purpose was mailed to 93 audiologists in clinical setting in the state of Florida. Five were returned undeliverable, and 39 of the remaining 88 were returned either completed or partially completed. The survey results revealed over 71% of the audiologists felt the current CPT codes were adequate. Time spent performing traditional audiologic tests, such as comprehensive audiometric evaluations and impedance testing, was fairly consistent. Greater time variability occurred in tests used to determine vestibular function. Over three-quarters of the respondents believed managed care has had a negative impact on their clinical practices, while 11% believe they have been positively impacted. Approximately 82% of the audiologists have had reductions in reimbursement as a result of managed care, while 10% have seen no change and 5% have enjoyed slightly greater reimbursement.

This is intended to raise the issues that have created an obstacle to the lawyer’s actions in order to avoid judicial litigation. The analysis begins by describing the position that the lawyer holds in accordance with the Constitution and the possible tools to face the matter of conflicts jurisdictionalization and therefore search for a more efficient justice, not only for the interest of its constituency, but also to satisfy the interests of society itself. The use of alternative dispute resolution means, when the controversy has already been installed, and acting as a hermeneutist to avoid litigation, are tools that should be handled by the lawyer either as a container or as a conflicts manager, always imbued with ethical behavior. The survey used the inductive method as well as bibliographic research.
O presente visa levantar as questões que têm servido de obstáculo para que o advogado atue na contenção da litigação judicial. Inicia-se a análise descrevendo a posição que o advogado ocupa de acordo com a Constituição Federal e quais as ferramentas possíveis para enfrentar essa questão da jurisdicionalização dos conflitos e consequentemente buscar uma justiça mais eficiente, não só para o interesse de seu constituinte, mas para satisfazer o interesse da própria sociedade. A utilização de meios alternativos de solução de conflitos, quando já instalada a controvérsia e a atuação como hermeneuta para evitar a litigiosidade são instrumentos que devem ser manejados pelo advogado como contentor ou gestor de conflitos, sempre imbuído de um comportamento ético. A pesquisa realizada utilizou-se do método indutivo e como técnica de pesquisa a bibliográfica.

The main objective that guided the development of the study it was to verify the necessary competences for a manager of higher teaching, the way for which he can manage this level of education rightly. The secondary objectives involve to identify knowledge, ability and attitude of managers of the kind of institution focused; also to observe the competences that are the most present in these professionals and to know the manager profile to suggest what could be the ideal portrait of a manager. This empirical research focuses on the following typologies: descriptive, bibliographic and fieldwork, its character is quali-quantitative, based on the idea of management competences and attributes: knowledge, ability and attitude. Concerning the results, this research reached the proposed objectives and it is possible to say that the managers know what is required for directing a higher teaching institution, information proved by the level of agreement of these professionals with the competence attributes: knowledge, ability and attitude, but are few the managers with specific capacities to conduct the institutions. Thus, we realize that there is little experience but inappropriate formation for the studied role, although these managers are successful in their action field. This study, related to the essential competences that take to the profile of the strategic manager in higher teaching institutions, suggests the model of management by competence in the same institutions.
O objetivo principal que norteou o desenvolvimento deste estudo foi verificar quais as competências necessárias para que um gestor de uma instituição de ensino superior possa administrá-la adequadamente. Os objetivos secundários implicam identificar os conhecimentos, habilidades e atitudes dos gestores das instituições de ensino superior pesquisadas; observar quais as competências que estão mais presentes nos gestores; conhecer o perfil dos gestores e sugerir qual seria o perfil ideal de um gestor. A pesquisa, de característica empírica, enfoca as tipologias: descritiva, bibliográfica e de campo, é de natureza quali-quantitativa e está fundamentada no conceito de gestão por competência e seus atributos: conhecimentos, habilidades e atitudes. Quanto aos resultados, a pesquisa alcançou seus objetivos propostos e é possível afirmar que embora os gestores saibam o que é necessário para gerir uma instituição de ensino superior, comprovado no nível de concordância destes com os atributos da competência conhecimentos, habilidades e atitudes, são poucos os gestores que possuem competências específicas para gerirem estas instituições. O que se percebe é que há pouca experiência e formação inadequada para o exercício da função, embora, esses gestores sejam bem sucedidos em suas áreas de formação. O estudo, referente às competências essenciais norteadoras para o perfil do gestor estratégico em instituições de ensino superior, sugere o modelo de gestão por competência nas instituições de ensino superior.

Os recursos tecnológicos, por si só, não satisfazem boa parte das necessidades de informação para a decisão no âmbito das organizações modernas, pois precisam cada vez mais de informações subjectivas como input do trabalho da transformação de dados e informações em conhecimento estratégico. O ambiente globalizado e competitivo está ávido por sistemas de inteligência que, mesmo sustentados por processos tecnológicos vigorosos, tendentes a uma dinâmica de reunião quantitativa de informações, também sejam eficazes na recolha, no processamento e na disseminação de informações oriundas de fontes humanas, atendendo satisfatoriamente a uma procura qualitativa, em decorrência da criação e exploração de redes de relacionamento social. Este estudo mostra, sob diversos ângulos, a dinâmica do tratamento das informações estratégicas, como uma função organizada e metodológica de inteligência, aplicada às organizações do conhecimento. Apresenta, também, a importância do processo de Inteligência Competitiva como uma ferramenta estratégica para os gestores na tomada de decisões. A pesquisa de campo, foi realizada em Instituições de Ensino Superior, a qual evidencia que os gestores não utilizam as informações de forma eficiente, mas vêem-na como fundamental auxiliar na administração da organização. Finalmente, a pesquisa mostra, ainda, que as Instituições de Ensino Superior estão interessadas em saber mais sobre o processo de inteligência Competitiva como auxiliar na gestão da organização, uma vez conscientes de que a informação é um elemento, de suporte ao processo decisório.
Technological resources, on their own, do not fulfill in great part the need of information for decision in the scope of modern organizations. These organizations require more and more subjective information as input for the work of transforming data and information in strategic knowledge. Global competition environment is eager for intelligence systems that, despite being supported by strong technologic processes which tend to a dynamic quantitative gathering of information, are also efficient in the assembling, processing and dissemination of information derived from human sources, answering satisfactorily qualitative demands due to the creation and exploitation of social relationship nets. This study, show in diverse angles the dynamics of the treatment of the strategical information, as a function organized and methodological of intelligence, applied the organizations of the knowledge. It shows the importance of the Competitive Intelligence as a strategical tool for the managers in the taking of decisions. The field research that was carried through together with the Institutions of Superior Education, it shows that the managers are not using the information in a efficient form, but it comes as basic importance to assist in the administration of the organization. Finally, still shows, that they are interested to know more abaut Competitive Intelligence to assist in the management of the organization, still considering that they are conscientious that the information is an element, of support to the power to decide process.

En esta tesis se evalúa la implementación en Chile del negocio de Money Manager de productos derivados. Este negocio es común en el mundo desarrollado y presenta altos niveles de crecimiento año a año. El negocio consiste en manejar cuentas de terceros en brokers de Forex y Contratos por Diferencia, haciendo uso del alto apalancamiento disponible en esos instrumentos, para sacar provecho de oportunidades de muy corto plazo. Para validar lo atractivo del negocio para el medio nacional, se analizó las principales alternativas de inversión existentes en chile, las cuales son competencia de este negocio. Mediante un análisis FODA se verifica que el negocio propuesto es ventajoso en comparación con las alternativas existentes, destacándose como fortalezas altas utilidades potenciales y la posibilidad de obtener utilidades en cualquier condición de mercado. Esta última fortaleza genera la oportunidad de capitalizar la crisis actual, captando dinero que se esté desinvirtiendo de instrumentos tradicionales. Adicionalmente, se analiza cada uno de los componentes del modelo de negocios a aplicar, de tal manera de poder explotar las fortalezas del negocio y disminuir el impacto de sus puntos débiles. El negocio analizado en esta tesis requiere de muy poca inversión inicial ($2.500.000), siendo los factores determinantes del éxito la captación de clientes y la capacidad del Money Manager de generar utilidades. Para mostrar que ambos factores se pueden obtener, se realizan dos tareas, una encuesta para obtener intención de inversión en el negocio (se obtiene una inversión potencial de $133 millones para el primer año) y simulación con datos históricos del rendimiento de una de las estrategias de inversión a aplicar (rentabilidad obtenida: 4% mensual). Utilizando los resultados obtenidos, se verifica que el negocio es rentable, mediante la realización de flujo de caja y estado de resultados para los primeros cinco años del negocio, obteniéndose utilidades desde $16,8 millones el primer año hasta $230 millones el año 5.

This study aimed to develop a model to assess the impact of funded training to technical administrative staff of IFAM / Campus of Manaus downtown and Rectory, in the years 2010 and 2011. Therefore, the research set up in a case study, qualitative and quantitative scope. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire applied to 42 technicians and 15 managers. The data collected were subjected to statistical treatment which involved measures of mean, standard deviation and relative frequency, in order to compare the perceptions of the groups evaluated; and, from the collection instrument there was built the model proposed on the hereby research. The theoretical work included nine models of training evaluation. Among them, the most suitable for the development of the model presented in the work were the studies of Kirkpatrick (1976) and Hamblin (1978), Borges-Andrade (MAIS model) developed in 1982 and Abbad (IMPACT model) in 1999. The criteria used to assess the impact of the training were: behavior in office, learning, performance, support to learning and work transfer. The results obtained showed that the requirement better assessed by technicians was the impact of training on performance in office, while for the head offices it referred to the impact of training on the job. There were noted some difficulties pointed out by technicians for participating in training at IFAM/CMC namely: supply, release, unavailability, quality and knowledge transfer. Results also allowed the verifying of the effectiveness of the training which the technicians took part.
Este estudo teve como objetivo principal desenvolver um modelo para avaliar o impacto dos treinamentos custeados aos técnico-administrativos ativos do IFAM/Campus Manaus-Centro e Reitoria, nos anos de 2010 e 2011. Para tanto, a pesquisa configurou-se em um estudo de caso, de natureza qualitativa e quantitativa e a coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de um questionário aplicado junto a 42 técnicos e 15 chefias. Os dados coletados foram submetidos a tratamento estatístico o qual envolveu as medidas de média, desvio padrão e frequência relativa, para comparar a percepção dos grupos avaliados e a partir do instrumento de coleta foi construído o modelo proposto na pesquisa. O referencial teórico do trabalho contemplou nove modelos de avaliação de treinamento. Dentre eles, os mais apropriados para o desenvolvimento do modelo apresentado no trabalho, foram os estudos de Kirkpatrick (1976) e Hamblin (1978), Borges-Andrade (Modelo MAIS) elaborado em 1982 e Abbad (Modelo IMPACT) em 1999, dos quais, os requisitos utilizados para avaliar o impacto do treinamento foram: comportamento no cargo, aprendizagem, desempenho, suporte à transferência da aprendizagem e trabalho. Os resultados alcançados demonstraram que o requisito mais bem avaliado pelos técnicos tratou-se do impacto do treinamento no comportamento no cargo, enquanto que para as chefias referiu-se ao impacto do treinamento no trabalho. Foram contatadas algumas dificuldades apontadas pelos técnicos para participarem de treinamentos no IFAM/CMC quais sejam: oferta, liberação, indisponibilidade, qualidade e transferência do conhecimento. Os resultados permitiram também a verificação da eficácia dos treinamentos dos quais os técnicos fizeram parte.

O bibliotecário exerce papéis técnicos e gerenciais e no exercício de atividades ligadas à gerência desenvolve um perfil profissional, conhecimentos e habilidades que podem influenciar na sua contribuição para a gestão de pessoas da organização como um todo. Com o objetivo de analisar essa contribuição, foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa qualitativa com uma etapa exploratória, onde foram entrevistados três bibliotecários gerentes de bibliotecas localizadas em empresas em Porto Alegre, capital do Rio Grande do Sul, no Brasil, e a etapa nuclear da pesquisa, denominada estudo do caso da Biblioteca Setorial da Escola de Administração da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), também em Porto Alegre, onde foram entrevistados a bibliotecária-chefe, quatro subordinados e três usuários da Biblioteca, sendo que todas as entrevistas foram guiadas por um roteiro. A análise interpretativa dos resultados foi feita com orientação na fundamentação teórica de acordo com a categorização de Ulrich (1998) e Gil (1994, 2001) para os papéis de gestor de pessoas, sob a perspectiva téorica da Administração, e a categorização de A. Oliveira e co-autores (2000), da Classificação Brasileira de Ocupações (BRASIL, [200-]) e S. Oliveira (2000) para as características pessoais, perfil profissional, conhecimentos e habilidades do bibliotecário enquanto gestor de pessoas, sob a perspectiva teórica da Biblioteconomia. Os achados mostraram que a bibliotecária-chefe da Escola de Administração foi considerada parceira estratégica por quase todos os sujeitos selecionados para o estudo de caso e o papel de comunicador do gestor de pessoas foi considerado o mais importante para o gerente de biblioteca pelos entrevistados das duas etapas. A comunicação, a negociação e a parceria estratégica receberam destaque pelo conjunto de entrevistados e também pelo conjunto de autores que forneceram suporte teórico para o estudo. As respostas mostraram que o bibliotecário tem procurado acompanhar as evoluções tecnológicas e gerenciais, aparentemente sem o descuido de suas funções técnicas. A atualização contínua, a especialização na área de conhecimento da biblioteca, a receptividade e aproximação do profissional aos usuários, a divulgação dos serviços, as competências gerenciais e técnicas apontadas pelos estudiosos das áreas biblioteconômica e administrativa e também pelas pessoas entrevistadas parecem contribuir para que o bibliotecário seja percebido como parceiro estratégico dentro da organização.
The librarian plays technical and managerial roles, and when performing the managerial functions, he or she displays a professional profile, as well as knowledge and abilities that can influence his or her contribution towards the overall personnel management of the organization. Aiming at analyzing this contribution, a qualitative research has been done with an exploratory stage, where three library directors from companies located in Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul, (southern Brazil), were interviewed, and the nuclear stage of the research, called case study of the Business Administration library at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS), also located in Porto Alegre, where the library director, four employees and three library patrons, with all interviews being guided by a syllabus. The interpretive analysis of the results has been done based on a theoretical foundation according to Ulrich’s (1998) and Gil’s (1994, 2001) categories for the role of personnel manager based on the Business Administration theories, and A. Oliveira’s (2000) categories, the Brazilian Classification of professional positions – CBO (Brazil, [200-]) and S. Oliveira (2000) for the personal characteristics, professional profile, the librarian’s knowledge and abilities as a personnel manager, based on the library and information science’s theories. The results showed that the library director of the Business Administration Library at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS, southern Brazil) is considered a strategic partner by almost all selected subjects for the case study, and the personnel manager’s effective communication was considered the most important role for a library director according to the interviewees on both stages. Effective communication, negotiation and strategic partnership were considered very prominent according to the interviewees and the authors that offered theoretical support for the study. The answers showed that the librarian has tried to keep up with the technological and managerial evolutions, apparently without neglecting her or his technical functions. The librarian’s continuous updates and specialization in the field of library and information science, receptiveness and easy approach with the patrons, advertising of the library services, and his or her managerial and technical competence cited by scholars in library and information science and in the administrative area as well as by the interviewees seems to contribute to the librarian being considered as a strategic partner inside the organization.

The aim of the thesis is to contribute to the CCT research field on social identity, by placing a focus on power from a customer perspective and studying how power can be accentuated within social identity. Theory from CCT with a focus on social identity has been used in combination with extensive literature on power and authority from a sociological perspective and literature from Fashion-Studies focusing on power-dressing, conspicuous consumption and luxury. The research question is: How is power-dressing and consumption of high-end luxury fashion brands used by female executives/senior managers in an attempt to accentuate power as a part of their social identity? In-depth semi-structured interviews where used as the main data collection method interviewing five female senior managers/female executives working in Stockholm; using the fashion consumption of female senior managers as its empirical sample. The main conclusion on this thesis is the creation of the concept of power-coded-dressing.This thesis implications are that it develops the CCT field slightly by adding a consumer-power perspective into the theoretical discourse. Its practical and social implications help women accentuate their power through, power-coded-dressing.

The purpose of this dissertation is to study the National School of Basic Education Managers Program (PNEGEB). PNEGEB integrates the policy of training school managers and is based on the principles of democratic management, with the school as a space for social inclusion and human emancipation. The purpose of this research was to analyze the effectiveness of the program, considering their execution conditions, analyzing their applicability and evaluating their execution, from the point of view of the executing institution, Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). And the partner agencies, the National Union of Municipal Officials (UNDIME) and the Paraíba State Secretariat of Education (SEE / PB). For the study, the chosen methodological option was a descriptive and exploratory research. From the point of view of the instruments and procedures, a bibliographical study and the documentary research were made, having as sources the regulatory documents of the program, the Basic Project of the Specialization Course of the School of Managers Program, the Work Plan and the Execution Reports, among others. For the development of the discussion, the theoretical frameworks of Aguiar, Cury, Dourado, Ferreira, Freire, Paro and Lück were used. In evaluating the execution of the Program, the research concluded that, in the case of Paraíba, the implementation of the Program was successful, especially with regard to the aspect of federative cooperation and the possibilities of knowledge and deepening of learning that the training proposal brought to the School managers. These elements refer to the positive contributions of the Program and its unfolding in the management practice and favor the strengthening of the national policy of formation of education professionals.
A presente dissertação tem por objeto de estudo o Programa Nacional Escola de Gestores da Educação Básica (PNEGEB). O PNEGEB integra a política de formação de gestores escolares, e fundamenta-se nos princípios da gestão democrática, tendo como eixo a escola como espaço de inclusão social e da emancipação humana. A proposta deste trabalho de pesquisa foi analisar a efetividade do Programa Escola de Gestores da Educação Básica, considerando suas condições de realização, analisando sua aplicabilidade e avaliando sua execução, sob o ponto de vista da instituição executora, Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB), e dos órgãos parceiros, União Nacional de Dirigentes Municipais (UNDIME) e Secretaria de Estado da Educação da Paraíba (SEE/PB). Para o estudo, fez-se opção metodológica pela pesquisa descritiva e exploratória. Do ponto de vista dos instrumentos e procedimentos, utilizamos o estudo bibliográfico e a pesquisa documental, tendo como fontes os documentos reguladores do programa, o Projeto Básico do Curso de Especialização do Programa Escola de Gestores, o Plano de Trabalho e os Relatórios de execução, entre outros. Para o desenvolvimento da discussão foram utilizados os marcos teóricos de Aguiar, Cury, Dourado, Ferreira, Freire, Paro e Lück. Ao avaliar a execução do Programa, a pesquisa concluiu que, no caso da Paraíba, a implementação do Programa foi exitosa, sobretudo no que concerne ao aspecto da cooperação federativa e às possibilidades de conhecimento e aprofundamento de aprendizagens que a proposta da formação trouxe para os gestores escolares. Estes elementos referenciam as contribuições positivas do Programa e os seus desdobramentos na prática gestora e favorecem o fortalecimento da política nacional de formação dos profissionais da educação.

Considerando a saúde numa dimensão biopsicossocial, pode-se afirmar que o homem apresenta um conjunto de fatores que, interligados, o situa no tempo e no espaço e, quando sobrecarregado, desencadeia uma série de reações negativas que afetam de modo geral a sua saúde e o seu bem-estar. O presente estudo visou investigar o nível de estresse e as estratégias de enfrentamento adotadas pelos gestores de escolas públicas na cidade de Belém, Estado do Pará. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva com abordagem quantitativa, desenvolvida por meio do delineamento de levantamento, cuja amostra foi composta por 193 gestores. Foram utilizadas a Escala de Toulousaine de Estresse ETS para avaliar o nível de estresse e a Escala Toulousaine de Coping ETC para identificar as estratégias de enfrentamento. Resultados revelaram que os sujeitos deste estudo apresentam médias de estresse inferiores à média nacional. Entretanto, apesar das médias inferiores à média brasileira, deve se destacar que foi identificado que um grande número de sujeitos apresenta estresse físico, psicológico, psico-fisiológico e de temporalidade. Segundo a visão dos gestores os principais fatores desencadeadores do estresse são a sobrecarga de trabalho, a falta de valorização profissional, os problemas administrativos, pedagógicos e de infra-estrutura da escola, os problemas financeiros, a situação de violência, indisciplina e desrespeito. As estratégias de enfrentamento mais utilizadas são a recusa e o isolamento, ou seja, de fuga e não enfrentamento do problema. Pode se concluir que há necessidade de desenvolvimento de programas voltados ao gerenciamento do estresse, especialmente visando à orientação para a adoção dos mecanismos de controle e apoio social no enfrentamento das situações estressoras, no trabalho ou fora dele. Para tanto, as políticas públicas que orientam a formação e desenvolvimento dos gestores escolares deveriam incluir em seu bojo elementos capazes de atender a tal demanda.
Considering the health in a biosychosocial dimension, it is possible do affirm that the human being presents a set of factors which, interconnected, locates in time and space and, when overloaded, triggers a series of negative reactions affecting in general way its health e welfare. The following study intends to explore the stress level e which coping strategies should be taken by the public schools managers in Belém City, Pará State. It is about a descriptive research with quantitative approach, developed by randomized waiver, which pattern was composed by 193 managers. It was used the Toulousaine Stress Scale to balance the stress level and the Toulousaine Coping Scale to identify coping strategies. Results showed that the subjects studied presents lower incomes than the national average. However, in spite of the one lower than the national, it must be detach that it was identified a great number of people with phisycal, psychological, psycho-physiological and temporary stress. According to the managers vision the most important factors that initiate stress are workload; missing professional recovering; problems with managing, teaching and infrastructure of schools; financial problems; violence, indiscipline and disrespect situation. The most used coping strategies are denial and retirement, which are, escape and not dealing the issue. In conclusion there is a need of development and training programs turning to deal with stress, especially seeking for orientation to adopt the control and support mechanisms in dealing with unease situations in and out of the work environment. In this proposal, public policies that order formation and development of scholar managers should include in their context element able to attend that demand.

Growing evidence suggests many widely distributed low-density tropical species are declining, but whether protected areas and the increasingly promoted multi-use community-managed wildlife areas mitigate causal threats is poorly studied. Lack of monitoring data and poorly understood species ecology limit knowledge of patterns, causal mechanisms and degree of abundance or range declines. Working in an African savanna, where bushmeat hunting and cattle-grazing are considered the greatest threats to wildlife, this thesis combined three approaches to study the conservation ecology of widely distributed wildlife at three spatial scales (continent-wide; landscape; home range). The continent-wide conservation status of Kori Bustard Ardeotis kori was assessed by reviewing occurrence records (1863–2009) across its range (14 countries). Range contraction was quantified by examining the proportion of historical records (pre-1970) falling within the area delineated by recent records (1970–2009), finding 8% (southern) and 21% (East Africa) declines in 146 years. In contrast, qualitative evidence from historical published accounts and contemporary expert assessments suggested widespread declines in abundance; thus numbers have declined considerably but without commensurate range contraction. Examination of seasonal home range use using satellite telemetry showed that female Kori are sedentary in central Botswana,with strong site-fidelity to dry-season home ranges associated with resource-rich pan habitats; the species appears sensitive to localised habitat conditions and resource availability. However, an assessment of the differential response of Kori and 20 other large-bodied vertebrates to protected areas, wildlife management areas and unprotected areas showed most species’ abundance was driven by proximity to human settlement,interpreted as sensitivity to unregulated hunting, with no effect of differential cattle stocking densities. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that cattle can affect habitat structure, but their effects on Kalahari wildlife were not perceptible, suggesting that conservationists’ preoccupation in African savannas with cattle and their perceived impacts rather than unregulated hunting may be misplaced.

Durante muito tempo, as organizações restringiram os seus dados e serviços a certas unidades dentro das próprias organizações. A procura por novas formas de negócio e otimização de recursos levaram as organizações a integrarem os seus sistemas e a disponibilizar os dados e serviços a terceiros, através de APIs. As APIs têm vindo a ter uma importância acrescida ao longo dos anos, ao ponto de terem assumido um papel fulcral no sucesso de diversas organizações de renome mundial. A esta tendência não é alheio o surgimento das APIs RESTful, que, derivado das suas vantagens, vieram responder a algumas das necessidades veementes das organizações. Este trabalho surge numa colaboração entre a Universidade de Aveiro e a Nokia Networks e visa o desenvolvimento de uma API RESTful para o Performance Manager. O Performance Manager é uma aplicação de gestão de desempenho de uma rede de telecomunicações, desenvolvida pela Nokia.
For a long time, organizations have confined their data and services only to some departments inside the organizations themselves. The quest for new business opportunities and resources optimization led organizations to integrate their systems and make the data and services available to third parties, through APIs. The importance of APIs has been rising to the point that they played a key role in the success of some renowned organizations. The emergence of RESTful APIs contributed to a higher use of APIs inside the organizations, and due to their advantages, they brought answers to some important needs in the organizations. This work arises from a collaboration between the University of Aveiro and Nokia Networks, and it aims for the development of a RESTful API for Performance Manager. Performance Manager is an application, developed by Nokia, for the management of the performance of a telecommunications network.

Este trabalho apresenta os mecanismos de gerencia de configurações para o ambiente STAR. STAR é uma plataforma para o desenvolvimento de ambientes para projetos de circuitos e sistemas eletrônicos que está sendo desenvolvido na Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul em cooperação com o Centro Científico da IBM no Rio de Janeiro. Seus objetos de projeto caracterizam-se como sistemas complexos e são representados através de um modelo de dados hierárquico, que tem por base a composição de objetos. Para expressar a evolução dos objetos de projeto no tempo utiliza-se versões, que mantêm as descrições dos objetos num determinado instante de tempo. O mecanismo de gerência de versões é fortemente relacionado à representação dos dados, suportando as diferentes dimensões que essa representação permite: visões, alternativas e revisões. A utilização de versões associada à composição de objetos faz com que se possa ter diversas possibilidades de descrição para um mesmo sistema complexo, em função da combinação das versões. Para que se possa submeter um objeto de projeto a uma ferramenta, como um simulador, épreciso selecionar versões de modo a obter uma descrição única, que é a sua configuração. A existência de um gerente de configurações dá agilidade a essa tarefa, pois ele oferece recursos para facilitar e tornar mais rápida a construção de configurações, através de manipulação e consultas a informações obtidas junto ao ambiente sobre os objetos de projeto. As configurações no STAR são determinadas a partir do atributo de referência dos componentes ou através da definição de um objeto - configuração. O gerente de configurações proposto para o ambiente neste trabalho suporta o estabelecimento de configurações estáticas, dinâmicas e abertas. Elas podem ser estabelecidas manualmente, através de escolhas do usuário, automaticamente, através da escolha entre um dos critérios pré-estabelecidos, ou de modo semi-automático, através da definição de uma expressão de configuração. Os critérios pré-estabelecidos têm por base a versão corrente e a versão mais recente. A utilização de expressões de configuração permite que se selecione versões com mais objetividade, uma vez que sua construção é feita a partir de características dos objetos, dadas por seus atributos, que permitem restringir as versões selecionadas àquelas cujas características são desejadas. A linguagem que permite a definição de expressões de configuração é um dos recursos estabelecidos que facilitam a tarefa do usuário. Outro recurso provido é a possibilidade de armazenar configurações. Isso torna possível sua reutilização em outros momentos e também por outros objetos, e preserva a flexibilidade de mantê-las como dinâmicas, ou abertas, apesar de já ter-se escolhido versões para complementá-las. Para tanto, tem-se como parte do modelo de dados os objetos-configuração, sobre os quais foram estabelecidas operações de criação, alteração, cópia, remoção, consulta e escolha de objetos. O funcionamento destas operações é a base do processo de configuração.
This work presents the mechanisms for configuration management in the STAR framework. STAR is an electronic design automation framework, under development at the University of Rio Grande do Sul in cooperation with the IBM Rio Scientific Center at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The design objects supported are complex systems and they are represented through a hierarchical data model. Versions are used to express the evolution process of design objects. The version management mechanism developed is strongly related with the data representation, and it supports the different dimensions of versions: views, alternatives and revisions. The use of versions associated with composite objects allows the existence of many possibilities of description for the same complex system, as a consequence of different versions combination. When submitting a design object to a design tool, like a simulator, it is necessary to select versions for components in order to obtain a single object description, called the object configuration. A configuration manager offers resources, as manipulation and query on design objects in the framework, to make version selection in configuration construction easy and fast. STAR configurations are established through component reference attributes or through a configuration object definition. The configuration management mechanism developed for the STAR framework in this work supports static, dynamic and open configurations. They are established in a manual, automatic or semi-automatic way. In the manual way, the user is responsible for choosing the selected versions. In the automatic way, it is possible to choose between the current version and the most recent version, which are pre-defined criteria. The user can define and use configuration expressions in a semi-automatic way. These expressions make the version selection objective, due to use of objects attributes, representing objects characteristics in the expression. The use of configuration expressions allows the selection of versions with specific characteristics. A language is available for the definition of configuration expressions. The possibility to store configurations is provided. Configurations may be reused in another time and by other objects. The possibility to store configurations allows them remain either dynamic or open, even if the choose of versions to complement them had been done. To make this possible, configuration objects are integrated in the data model. Operations on configuration objects are: create, update, copy, delete, query and select. These operations are the basis of the configuration process.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi fazer um levantamento bibliográfico das produções dos últimos anos com a intenção de apresentar como o constructo de sentido do trabalho tem sido abordado no campo da Psicologia. Two studies are presented in this paper with the intent to deepen the knowledge on the work of school managers as well as the subject of the meaning of work. The first one is a theoretical study entitled: State of the Art of the Meaning of Work. The objective of this research was to make a bibliographical survey of the productions of the last years to check how the meaning of work has been boarded in the field of Psychology. Different databases were consultations and congregate national and international publications. Considering the national and international researches the general results had shown that the majority of the studies used the qualitative research method (21), in detriment of the theoretician (10), quantitative (2) and mixing (2). O processo decisório nas instituições de saúde acontece cotidianamente e suas repercussões podem causar impactos positivos ou negativos para aqueles que as vivenciam. As ações de decisão habitualmente estão centralizadas no corpo de gestores da instituição e, portanto, compete a eles a responsabilidade de criar estratégias para que escolhas realizadas tenham o propósito de levar a instituição a atingir seus melhores resultados. Nesse sentido, esta pesquisa tem como objetivo apreender as repercussões profissionais e pessoais para os trabalhadores de uma instituição pública de saúde, decorrentes do processo decisório da gestão. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo realizado em um Hospital Público de referência em ensino do estado de São Paulo, após aprovação do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa sob n. CAAE: 47979115.0.0000.5411. Participaram deste estudo 25 trabalhadores do quadro efetivo institucional, pertencentes a diferentes categorias da equipe administrativa e equipe de saúde. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, previamente agendadas, realizadas em locais escolhidos pelos participantes e gravadas em aparelho digital. O tratamento dos dados foi realizado segundo a Análise de Conteúdo e os resultados emergentes apontam para três categorias de análise que emergiram dos discursos dos sujeitos da pesquisa: “O conhecimento dos trabalhadores sobre o organograma institucional está focado na proximidade com os cargos”; “O sistema decisório da gestão influencia na vida profissional do trabalhador de saúde” e “O sistema decisório da gestão exerce influência na vida pessoal do trabalhador”. Os discursos foram analisados com base na literatura e documentos oficiais sobre o tema envolvendo Processo Decisório. Assim, esse estudo implementa ações de mudança no processo tradicional “centralizado” das instituições de saúde, no sentido de propor a ruptura de ações dominantes e decisões autônomas da gestão. Neste sentido, como produto dessa pesquisa foi elaborado um vídeo que constitui um canal de comunicação no processo admissional, visando acolhimento, inclusão nos processos hierárquicos e à integração entre os gestores e seus liderados no sentido de possibilitar novos olhares e viabilização de parcerias para um melhor convívio no ambiente profissional.

The decision making is normally centralized in the managers of the institution, thus, they being responsible for creating strategies for the institution reaching the best result. The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of the management on the personal and professional repercussions of the employees in a public health institution. The study design is a qualitative study, being realized in a public health teaching hospital in the State of São Paulo-Brazil. The study was approved by the local Ethic commission (protocol CAAE: 47979115.0.0000.5411); all participants signed a written consent. 25 employees of different areas of the administration and of the health care team were invited. Data were achieved by semi-structured interviews, previously scheduled, at a place of choice of the interviewer. All interviews were recorded. The analyses of the data were based on the principles of the analysis of context. Results pointed out three categories of analysis “ The knowledge of the employees about the institucional organogram is focused on the approach of the positions”; “The system of decision making in management influences the professional life of the health worker” and “ The system of decision making in management influences the personal life of the health worker”. The analyses of the interviews were based on literature and documents about the thematic of Process of decision making. Thus, this study implements action for changing the traditional centralizing process in health institutes and proposes the break of dominant actions and autonomous actions of management. As part of the results, a video was produced, as an instrument of communication during the admission process which focuses on hosting, inclusion in the hierarchical processes and on the integration between employees and managers. These action will bring new insights and possibilities of partnerships for a better professional environment.

The democratic management is a challenge for education, on the one hand for its actualization needs a link between the government and the educational institution. From that, research aims to understand the main challenges faced by the school administration to consolidate the management of public schools in Natal/RN. Against this context the methodology used was multiple cases, qualitative approach in which respondent were manager (director, deputy director and coordinator) of the four municipal schools and two representatives of the Democratic Management Commission of a Government departament of Education, Natal/RN. The analysis was made by peers, between schools that had grade superior IDEB that average stipulated by the federal government and two that had grade lower and between managers and representatives of the Secretary. Were used techniques of categorization and content analysis of the speeches of respondents. Was note that managers understand the importance of the participation about whole community in the democratic management, however only one school highlighted means of attracting the parents against to the difficulty of representing these. The lack of knowledge about the democratic management is evident mainly in the pair of schools with lower IDEB. That schools with a lower IDEB adhere to this management as a way to meet rules. So unanimous, the broad role of director hampers knowledge about the legislation. About relationship of the Government department with managers, there are some contradictions between the understanding of the role of the coordinator by managers and representatives of the Government department. It was perceptible the no uniformity about a good relationship between managers and Government department. It was notable features of democratic management in all school units, well as the efforts of the Government department in this scope. However there are also undemocratic features that deserve further study
A gest?o democr?tica constitui um desafio para educa??o. Se, por um lado, para sua efetiva??o ? preciso uma articula??o entre o governo e a escola, por outro, a import?ncia e o significado de seu uso s?o conferidos pela pr?pria institui??o de ensino. Diante disso, a presente pesquisa objetiva compreender os principais desafios enfrentados pela dire??o escolar, para a consolida??o da gest?o nas escolas municipais de Natal/RN. Para tanto, a metodologia utilizada foi de casos m?ltiplos, abordagem qualitativa que teve como entrevistados tr?s componentes do grupo gestor (diretor, vice-diretor e coordenador) de quatro escolas municipais e dois representantes da Comiss?o de Gest?o Democr?tica da Secretaria Municipal de Educa??o, Natal/RN. A an?lise foi realizada entre partes distintas, sendo uma composta pelas escolas que obtiveram nota do IDEB (?ndice de Desenvolvimento da Educa??o B?sica) superior a m?dia estipulada pelo governo federal, e aquelas que alcan?aram nota inferior, e outra formada por os gestores e representantes da referida secretaria. Foram empregadas, tamb?m, t?cnicas de categoriza??o e an?lise de conte?do dos discursos dos respondentes. Assim, notou-se que os gestores entendem a import?ncia da participa??o de toda comunidade na pr?tica da gest?o democr?tica, embora apenas uma escola tenha ressaltado meios poss?veis para atrair os pais diante da dificuldade da representa??o destes. A falta de conhecimento sobre a gest?o democr?tica pelos profissionais ? evidente, principalmente, das escolas com IDEB menor. As escolas possuidoras desse ?ndice aderem a essa modalidade de gest?o apenas como forma de cumprir regras. This research presents an analysis of the trajectory of the election for school administrators in the municipal network of Am?lia Rodrigues from the official documents from 2000 to 2010. The year 2000 was the initial milestone of the regulation and the year 2010 was published the first public notice after change of government. In this sense, this research has as object of study the conceptions about school management evidenced in the trajectory of the election for school managers in the city of Am?lia Rodrigues-BA, and as a guiding question: How are the conceptions about school management evidenced in the trajectory of the election for school managers in the municipality of Am?lia Rodrigues from 2000 to 2010? The general objective was to analyze the conceptions about school management evidenced in the trajectory of the election for school managers in the municipality of Am?lia Rodrigues-BA. Thus, the research refers to school management based on a democratic perspective, committed to the promotion of citizenship, and social emancipation, as opposed to the managerial aspect of public administration. With regard to the research instruments, the analysis of the documents that regulated the election for municipal school managers and semi-structured interviews was used. In order to do so, it sought to know in the municipal scope the guiding documents that directly related to the school management, the instruments and instances that operationalize the democratic management in the schools of the municipal network, as well as the characteristics and conceptions evidenced in the legal documents. The analysis of the data, gathered in the documents and the interviews, was based on the approach of the Policy Cycle (context of influence and practice) based on the work of Stephen Ball and Richard Bowe, English researchers in the area of educational policy. Thus, we adopt a theoretical basis based on the studies of authors such as: Bobbio (2000); Coutinho (2002); Paro (1998); Frigotto, Ciavatta (2003); Cury (2002); Sander (2005); Luck (2006) among others. The data of this investigation revealed that there are many barriers regarding the true participation of the different segments in the management of the school. Therefore, although there is considerable progress regarding collective participation in school units with the election of school administrators, there is still a lot to be done, so that school democratization becomes a reality in the municipality of Am?lia Rodrigues.
Esta pesquisa apresenta uma an?lise da trajet?ria da elei??o para gestores escolares na rede municipal de Am?lia Rodrigues, a partir de documentos oficiais, no per?odo de 2000 a 2010. O ano de 2000 foi o marco inicial da regulamenta??o e em 2010, publicou-se o primeiro edital, ap?s mudan?a de governo. Nesse sentido, esta pesquisa tem como objeto de estudo as concep??es sobre gest?o escolar evidenciadas na trajet?ria da elei??o para gestores escolares no munic?pio de Am?lia Rodrigues-BA e, como quest?o norteadora: Como se caracterizam as concep??es sobre gest?o escolar evidenciadas na trajet?ria da elei??o para gestores escolares no munic?pio de Am?lia Rodrigues no per?odo de 2000 a 2010? Como objetivo geral buscou-se analisar as concep??es sobre gest?o escolar evidenciadas na trajet?ria da elei??o para a escolha dos dirigentes das escolas municipais de Am?lia Rodrigues-BA, estabelecendo o tipo de gest?o que, na percep??o da comunidade e com base nos documentos institucionais, foi implementada ao longo de uma d?cada, 2000 a 2010. Assim, a pesquisa se refere ? gest?o escolar, pautada em uma perspectiva democr?tica, comprometida com a promo??o da cidadania e a emancipa??o social, em oposi??o ? vertente gerencial da administra??o p?blica. Abstract:
One of the greatest proximate threats facing biodiversity is habitat change as a result of the combined effects of agricultural development and livestock grazing. Extensive livestock systems are increasingly competing with wildlife for access to land and natural resources in African rangelands. Ethiopia has the highest numbers of livestock in Africa with most livestock production taking place in highland systems. The Bale Mountains contain the largest extent of afroalpine habitat in Africa and are the most important conservation area in Ethiopia as one of thirty-four Conservation International Biodiversity Hotspots. The Bale Mountains National Park was established forty years ago to protect the endemic, and rodent-specialist Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis) and the afroalpine habitats upon which they depend. I use a 21 year time-series of livestock counts in the park to detect changes in the Oromo traditional livestock production system or godantu. I show that a seasonal transhumant livestock production regime, akin to godantu, only appears to persist in the Web valley today and I also find some evidence that the type of livestock is changing with smaller stock, such as sheep and goats, being more frequently kept. Despite reportedly growing numbers of households in the Web valley, I do not detect an overall increase in livestock numbers, suggesting that the area may have reached its carrying capacity in terms of livestock. In contrast, the number of livestock on the Sanetti Plateau increased over the monitoring period, including the remote and inhospitable western section of the plateau. Furthermore, I detect an increase in the risk of contact and disease transmission between Ethiopian wolves and free-roaming dogs in wolf optimal habitats. I subsequently estimate, through the use of transects, the densities of livestock in the Web valley, Morebawa and Sanetti and calculate the ratio of observed to maximum sustainable livestock density (based on rainfall and vegetation productivity). The conservative results suggest that the Web valley and Morebawa are overstocked given the rangeland predicted productivity for those areas, and that the problem of overstocking is at its worst during the dry season. I then establish critical relationships between vegetation conditions, livestock grazing pressure and rodent populations (Tachyoryctes macrocephalus, Lophuromys melanonyx and Arvicanthis blicki) in the afroalpine, under both natural and controlled experimental conditions. Rodent biomass declines as the livestock index increases along a natural grazing gradient, but rodents‟ body condition, use of the habitat or breeding ecology and most vegetation variables measured do not significantly vary across the livestock grazing gradient. Rodent populations do respond to the experimental removal of livestock inside exclosures, although this response is site and species-specific, and I find some evidence that these responses are concurrent with changes in the vegetation. Grazed plots have higher plant species richness and diversity compared to the exclosure sites which harbour reduced bareground cover and taller vegetation. Differences among rodent species in their responses to grazing may be mediated by interaction between the direct effects of grazing on habitat quality and species-specific habitat requirements, although the specific mechanism of this interaction could not be tested. Livestock may negatively affect rodents by increasing their predation risk (through removing vegetation cover), by reducing the soil suitability for maintaining burrow systems (through trampling) or, less likely, by competing for food resources. A series of simple dynamic food chain models are developed to explore the interactions between Ethiopian wolves, rodents and vegetation and how they may be affected by increasing levels of livestock grazing. I also explore how predictions made about these trophic dynamics are affected by the type of functional response linking the different levels. The models suggest that the pastures of the Web valley and Morebawa are likely to be incapable of maintaining wolves at current livestock densities, while the Sanetti plateau may be able to sustain only slight increases in livestock density before tipping into a trophic configuration unable to sustain wolves. This model is a first step in assessing the seriousness of conflict between pastoralists and wildlife in BMNP. Resource selection functions are developed and validated for cattle and sheep/goats grazing in the Bale afroalpine in an attempt to understand some of the drivers behind the heterogeneous use of the landscape by livestock. Habitat use by livestock is focused on lower-lying pastures in the vicinity of water sources (rivers or mineral springs). Only cattle strongly select for/against particular vegetation types. The probability of habitat use is also linked to the distance from the nearest villages. The models developed highlight a strong association between livestock use and rodent biomass in Morebawa and Eastern Sanetti, suggesting that livestock grazing poses a threat to Ethiopian wolves‟ persistence in marginal habitats in which rodent availability is already limited. Furthermore, the concentration of livestock around water sources has serious implications for the degradation of the park‟s hydrological system and the livelihoods and food security of the millions of people living in the dependent lowlands. Integrating research and practice is a fundamental challenge for conservation. I discuss how the methodological tools developed and the insights gained into the dynamics of the afroalpine system can contribute to the management of livestock grazing pressure in Bale Mountains National Park and highlight gaps in the knowledge of the afroalpine ecosystem where more research is needed.
