Abstract:
Under the conditions of the formation of the civil society, the social significance of archival institutions is increasing. The archives perform a number of important functions to store the documentary memory of the state and society. The development of modern historical science is characterized by the study of the mass sources. The parish registers play an important role as a type of the mass sources. The identification and usage of the informational potential of the parish registers and the storage of this historical source is becoming extremely urgent today. Moreover, there is an urgent need to systematize the parish registers that are stored in the local state archives, to protect metrics from damage and loss as well as to guarantee the proper storage for both modern researchers and descendants can use them. The archivists work actively to improve the scientific reference system for the parish registers, to establish catalogues and to publish information on the official sites of the institutions. An important trend in ensuring the storage of the archival documents is the digitization. The digital archives and parish registers are available on the official websites of the archival institutions. The archival institutions of Ukraine within the framework of international activities carry out activities in the usage of the information presented in the parish registers. The archival institutions actively collaborate with the genealogical societies and organizations. The parish registers, as a source with enormous informative potential, are of a high interest to the researchers. It should be noted about the necessity of the further usage of the parish registers and the proper storage of these historical sources.

Dębno Królewskie parish in the ligh of canonical visitation in pre-partition era Canonical visitations of a parish are a specific source describing the state of a basic administrative unit in the Roman-Catholic Church at a specific time. These sources are mainly rich in descriptions of churches, their equipment and the standard of pastoral duties performed by priests. The paper presents the history of DębnoKrólewskie parish in the light of such specific sources as canonical visitations. It gives however quite static picture of functioning of the parish in pre-partition era, but that is imposed by the type of the source. Abstract:
On the worldwide scale Africa is the least-known continent demographically. Until the mid-twentieth century not even the size of the population was precisely known in many areas of sub-Saharan Africa. The major problems in African historical demography have either been the almost total lack of relevant sources or, if some have been available, they have been fragmentary and non-systematic. The reliability of the most commonly-used sources in African historical demography—population counts and early censuses—remained questionable until the 1960s. However, fairly far-reaching conclusions and estimations based on these sources using indirect methods have been drawn. Despite the development of methods in historical demography, the questionable source materials have naturally provided serious grounds for argumentation. An excellent example is the debate between the natalistic and antinatalistic school over changes in fertility and mortality in sub-Saharan African societies during the precolonial and early colonial period. The fragmentary nature of the available sources has offered a firm basis for the disagreement. The objective of this paper is to discuss limitations, pitfalls, and opportunities related to sources used in African historical demography. The paper first reviews the conventional sources—population counts, censuses, and surveys—and then presents an old but seldom-used group of sources, Christian parish registers. The usability of parish registers is discussed through a concrete research project based on data produced since the late nineteenth century in the parishes of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN). Finally, attention is paid on widening the range of disciplines where African parish registers could be utilized.

Abstract:
Abstract Southern forest products industries planted 329,000 acres of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda)from fusiform rust-resistant geographic seed sources during the period 1971-1980, according to a survey conducted in 1981. This amounted to about 20% of the total acreage planted to loblolly by the reporting industries. Of the rust-resistant stock, 93% came from Livingston Parish, Louisiana. Two experiments indicate that the Livingston Parish trees will have about 50% less rust than would have been the case had susceptible local seed sources been used. Livingston Parish loblolly appears to be adapted as far north as Dooly County in the coastal plain of Georgia, and Coosa County in central Alabama. Less than 100 miles farther north, however, its form has been noticeably poorer and late mortality has been excessive.

Abstract:
The article considers the achievements of modern Russian historiography in the field of compiling documents for demographic census registration by the parish Orthodox clergy in the synodic period of the Russian Orthodox Church. Among the problems that have been the most reflected, especially in the regional historiography of recent decades are the external features of confessional statements, changes in their forms during the XVIII–XIX centuries, the estates groups and strata represented in them, changes in the composition of parish families over several years, the gender and age composition of parishioners, migration processes within a one particular locality. The greatest value undoubtedly is the statistical data on the performance of Christian sacraments of confession and communion by parishioners. The works of researchers who analyze and use ecclesiastical signed documents, note a huge information potential of this type of historical sources. Ecclesiastical signed documents reveal not only the peculiarities in the social structure of an individual parish, diocese or eparchy as a whole. They are a fairly reliable indicator of the population’s introduction to the Orthodox faith and rites, especially beginning from the early XIX century, when the possibilities of data falsification by the parish clergy were minimized. This type of mass sources, such as signed documents, makes it possible to consider the history of everyday life, household and housing conditions, the distance of the village to the temple. The revealed shortcomings in ecclesiastical signed documents include the following: fixing the population only present in the parish, giving amorphous reasons for non-fulfillment of the sacraments such as «failure», «negligence», inaccurate determination of parishioners’ age in remote parish villages, real attitude of believers to the church and dogmas.

Abstract:
A review of evidence on infant mortality derived from the London bills of mortality and parish registers indicates that there were major registration problems throughout the whole of the parish register period. One way of addressing these problems is to carry out reconstitution studies of individual London parishes, but there are a number of problems with reconstitution methodology, including the traffic in corpses between parishes both inside and outside of London and the negligence of clergymen in registering both baptisms and burials. In this paper the triangulation of sources has been employed to measure the adequacy of burial registration, including the comparison of data from bills of mortality, parish registers and probate returns, as well as the use of the same-name technique. This research indicates that between 20 and 40 per cent of burials went unregistered in London during the parish register period.

Abstract A greenhouse inoculation study compared resistance to fusiform rust (Cronartium quercuum (Berk.) Miyabe ex Shirai f. sp. fusiforme) of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) seedlings derived from bulk seed produced in 4 rust-resistant seed orchards, 1 rust-resistant geographic seed source (Livingston Parish, LA), and a control treatment of improved loblolly from a first-generation production orchard. The rust-resistant orchards included 2 forest industry orchards developed from the most rust-resistant clones available within a tree improvement cooperative (1st generation), and both a clonal and a seedling seed orchard from the Georgia Forestry Commission-USDA Forest Service (GFC-USFS) program (2nd generation). The most resistant seedlings (61% rust free) were from the GFC-USFS seedling orchard. The Livingston Parish seedlings and those from the GFC-USFS clonal orchard had significant resistance, both groups being 44% rust free. One forest industry orchard was intermediate in resistance (34% rust free), whereas the second industry orchard was not significantly different from the controls, with 19 and 13% of the seedlings rust free, respectively. The results emphasize the value of increased selection pressure in the future production of highly rust-resistant seedlings with a broad genetic base, and demonstrates the gains that can be achieved in advanced generations. Abstract:
This article presents a basic research scope of the social importance of microtoponyms and topographical features of villages and their precincts, which in the Middle Ages were organized as parish communities. The social space of the rural environment is segmented by different entities important for the social and religious life of the local community, such as a parish church with its yard, a cemetery, other churches and chapels in the fields and groves, freestanding crosses, certain bodies of water or some marked trees, typically the oak. The issue of the methods of analysing medieval sources of different provenience and fragmented data is of major importance. In order to understand the sources properly, we have to be aware of the social segmentation of a medieval society, from which diverse interpretation and functions of the cultural artefacts and performances (rituals, festivities) originated.

This article uses a combination of sources, ranging from statistical material calculated from parish records, through oral history interviews and autobiographies, to letters sent by parish priests to their bishop, to illuminate the spaces between law, marriage and the church in the Gurk valley of southern Austria. It argues that local patterns and trends of illegitimacy were tolerated by the Catholic clergy, and that the relationships concerned were understood both as marriage without ceremonialization, and as stable unions where marriage was impeded by poverty. These attitudes hardened in the state legal practices that formed part of Nazi family policy and reduced rural illegitimacy.

Abstract:
This article fills an historiographical and methodological gap in our knowledge of the lived experience of the process of rural industrialisation. It uses a microhistorical study of a rapidly developing parish in the Somerset coalfield to question notions current in the historiography of rural class structures and community identity. It employs a variety of sources, including extracts from a particularly detailed early nineteenth-century journal, to demonstrate that the growing proportion of coal miners in the parish population from the late eighteenth century was well integrated, economically and culturally, into the local community. This argument runs counter to the stereotype that coal miners tended to form a ‘breed apart’ from the wider population. It is further argued that parish-based definitions of community, which have been emphasised in some of the most recent historiography, are less relevant in regions experiencing significant economic growth and structural change.

Abstract:
The subject of the study is the study of the history of Arseniev-Komelsky parish in 1920-1930. The object of the study is the situation of the rural parish of the Russian Orthodox Church in the first decades of the existence of the Soviet state. Special attention is paid to the specifics of the creation of the parish, the manifestation of the main directions of the state's policy towards religion and the church on the example of the history of the parish, the reasons and the process of its closure. The choice of the subject of the study is largely connected with an attempt to reveal the subsequent fate of the Arseniev Komel Monastery of the Gryazovets district of the Vologda province, which was closed in 1920. The source base of the research consists of legal acts of the Soviet state, archival documents (the State Archive of the Vologda Region, the Vologda Regional Archive of Modern Political History, the Archive of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Vologda Region, the Vologda Diocesan Ancient Repository) materials of the periodical press. The novelty of the research lies in the study of a parish not mentioned in the literature; in the introduction of new historical sources (archival materials) and historical facts into scientific circulation. The main results of the authors' research are: the conclusion about the connection between the opening of the Arseniev-Komelsky parish and the closure of the Arseniev Komelsky monastery; the identification of the peculiarities of the anti-church and anti-religious policy of the state in 1920-1930 in relation to the rural parish (its tightening in the conditions of collectivization and dispossession), the combination of state policy and the interests of local authorities among the reasons for the closure of the parish. The article outlines for the first time the fate of the priest and some of the inhabitants of the closed monastery. It is shown that, despite the anti-church policy of the state, the religious consciousness of the peasantry (at least part of it) preserved.

Abstract:
The great majority of late-medieval lay people encountered the Universal Church most directly, and in some cases exclusively, through their local parish church. The parish has therefore been at the heart of research into lay piety, as witnessed in a range of detailed studies of pre-Reformation beliefs, rituals, rites of passage, clergy, episcopal oversight, parochial administration and social organization. Until recently, however, the ‘soundscape’ of the pre-Reformation parish has received less exhaustive attention, perhaps because the parish has been seen as peripheral or subordinate to the mainstream of musicological research (few first-rank composers are known to have worked within English parish churches), but also because the documentary sources are more disparate and often less complete and informative than the archives of more superficially prestigious institutions. Nevertheless, if the widespread cultivation of polyphonic singing within divine worship was one of the seminal cultural achievements of late-medieval England, what contribution did the parish make towards this revolution? How many parishes maintained polyphonic choirs? What role did the laity play in promoting liturgical polyphony? And what might such initiatives reveal concerning lay attitudes towards liturgical music? Studies of Bristol, London, Louth, Ludlow and York have highlighted the potential of the parish as a focus for musicological research, and have begun to answer some of these questions. The following handlist, an earlier form of which was prepared for the 2002 Harlaxton Medieval Symposium, is intended to serve as a springboard for further research in this field. Although neither complete nor definitive, its aims are to bring together, as comprehensively as possible, the available evidence concerning the singing of liturgical polyphony before 1559, and to provide an overview of the contextual factors which have informed the underlying methodology: to this end, the list itself is preceded by an extended commentary.

The research subject is closed religious community that has existed in the Perm region (Russia) for over thirty years. The community has evolved from a typical Orthodox parish to a modern-type spiritual group that used non-Orthodox sources of information and devotion, and was led by a woman. The study identifies most effective social instruments for the consolidation of those type of religious community. The research includes reconstruction of the history of the community and the analysis of the materials of spiritual seminars held there, reflecting gradual transformation of the teachings and change of the leader’s status. Abstract:
AbstractImproving knowledge about African historical demography is essential to addressing current population trends and achieving deeper understanding of social, economic, and political change in the past and present. I use census and parish register data from Tanganyika to address the origins of twentieth-century population growth, to describe how major changes in fertility and child mortality began in the 1940s, and to emphasise the significance of the large rise in fertility between the 1940s and 1970s. Through this work and my wider survey of parish registers in Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia, I consider the relationships between power, evidence, and meaning in these data sources. Alongside the macro gaps in Africa's population history are significant microsilences — lacunae in the sources and data which reflect the hegemonic structures within which they were produced. I suggest a moral demography approach to their analysis, borrowing from the reflexive and dialectic method found in studies of moral economy.

Abstract:
The article investigates the specific features in the territorial structure of the church parish on the Andoma pogost district of the Olonets uyezd during the first half of the 18th century. The set problem has not been the subject of close analysis in the historiography yet. Approving the idea that the parish on the North-West of Russia was coherent with the small district (volost’) in 17—18th centuries, emphasizing the unity of the parish, scientists mainly focused on the problem of identifying the general features of the parish and on classification of parishes. The study is based on a comparative analysis of data that were fixed in the reports of the local priests in 1708 and confessional records in 1769. The reconstruction of the grid of all mentioned in the sources villages were used for visualizing the groups of villages, inhabitants of which belonged to different parts of the parish. The revealing data as well as the reconstruction of peculiarities how the clergy was attached to one or another church and how the staff of the clergy was divided into two parts allow us to conclude that the church parish of the Andoma pogost district had significantly more complicated structure, especially in comparative with the structure of church parishes of not very vast districts (volosts). According to tradition the parish was divided into two parts for regulating mechanism of material support of the clergy, distributing obligations among them and satisfaction spiritual needs of the laity. Both parts of the parish had a significant degree of self-dependence: each had its own church, own clergy that was included in the common clergy staff (shtat), and the strictly geographically localized group of villages. The stable using of archaic practices in the territorial organization of the parish during the first half of the 18th century suggests that the local community managed to adapt them to the newly approved legislative principles, aimed at unifying and enlarging church parishes. This was largely possible as the state and church policy took into account archaic traditions of local communities and was aimed on results in the long term.

Abstract:
The anniversary album of A. Sheptytsky belongs to the unique historical sources of 1930–1931. There are almost 150 seals in the album. This seals are represented by Ukrainian sphragistics of the end of the 19th – the first third of the 20th centuries. The album contains church deanery and parish seals of the Stryi Protopresbytery of the Lviv Diocese, which included the Bolehivskyi, Dolynskyi, Zhydachivskyi, Zhuravenskyi, Lyubinetskyi, Mykolaivskyi, Peregyn- s- kyi, Rozhnyativskyi, Skolivskyi, Stryiskyi, Tukhlyanskyi deaneries. During the study, the methods of comparison, classification and reconstruction of seals were used. Due to the comparison of seals, it was concluded that some seals were replaced. There are statistics on the authenticity of this sphragistic source in the conclusions. These seals can be a valuable source for special historical disciplines, as well as for research into the development of the Ukrainian language, local and church history, and other aspects of the social life of Galicia in the XIX–XX centuries. But there are 9 % of undefined images of parish seals in the album. About 4 % of the seals are errors or substitutions. However, these shortcomings also contain some information about the attitude of seal owners to their use. There are four types of seals in the album: emblematic, hagiographic, titular, onomastic. The most common symbol on seals is the cross. There are four ver-sions of the cross on deanery seals (mostly accompanied by a hat with tassels), and there are eleven versions on parish seals. Hagiographic images on the seals most often reflect the name of the church, although there are cases in the album of inconsistencies between the image on the seal and the name of the church. Keywords: sphragistics, parish seals, Galicia, A. Sheptytsky, anniversary album, critique of sphragistic sources.

Poos and Smith, in an earlier issue of the Law and History Review, have undertaken such a task when they thoroughly examined my use of manorial court rolls' data for demographic analysis of a medieval English parish.

Abstract:
The article researches the history of the Orthodox parish of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the mountain village of Lisri. In late 19th/early 20th century . Russian Orthodox Church was very active in terms of missionary, cultural and educational work in the mountain parishes of Ossetia. For well-known reasons, this activity and its results had not been investigated for a while, resulting in a gap in the historiography of the region, and now it is crucial to fill it in. The novelty of the study consists in the wording of the problem: the object of the study is an Orthodox parish as a grass-roots structural unit of the church, while clergymen’s personalities are reserarched through the prism of the history of the parish they served in. In addition, the fact of the existence of the Lisri parish has not been reflected in any scientific work on the history of Christianity in Ossetia and has been traced back basing on documents that had not been researched for a long time. The objective of the work was to study the history of the development of one of the major Orthodox parishes in the mountainous part of Ossetia. The identities of priests and church servants from the parish of the Uspensky church at different times were identified based on on archive materials, and their activity aimed at the promotion of the Lisri parish was shown. It is the first time a foreign source containing data on the life of the parish of Lysr in 1909 is mentioned by the reaserchers. The tolerant character of interaction between the Orthodox Church and the traditional Ossetian community is noted. After analyzing a number of sources the authors conclude that the subtle missionary work and respectful attitude towards Ossetian culture that was noted in clergy of all levels (including the bishop) in many ways determined the success of Orthodoxy in the Lisri parish, which in just 10 years since being inaugurated had become one of the most significant church parishes in the mountainous part of Ossetia.

Abstract:
This article argues for a more holistic approach to understanding the Old Poor Law. Using three detailed case studies from southern England, it focuses on the dynamics of differing social groups within the parish. It also looks at the role of the law, looking beyond the statutes to the parts played by King's Bench, Quarter Sessions and individual justices and petty sessions in creating a diversity of experiences for the poor. However, it also stresses the differential access to charitable funds, common rights, and poor relief in individual communities, and the ways in which parish elites attempted to put the total available resources to what they saw as the best uses. From 1650 to 1780 these combined resources allowed a generally humane approach to the treatment of poverty and misfortune, and maintained the independence of the cottager and labourer in southern England. Only after 1780 when population rose sharply and rural employment shrank did the flexibility of combined charitable and rate-based relief founder and more drastic devices were employed to cope with basic needs. In this process the independence of the labourer and cottager was undermined, charitable sources were marginalized, and the seeds were sown for the acceptance of the New Poor Law.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article explores the changing relationship between paupers and the parish authorities in Tongue, in the far north of Scotland, between the passing of the Scottish New Poor Law in 1845 and the end of the nineteenth century. It does so by focusing on Scottish pauper letters and petitions for relief. Such sources, though relatively abundant in the archives, have so far been ignored by welfare historians. The article begins with a discussion of the trials of Tongue's poor crofting community in the early years of the century, the impact of widespread land clearance, and the dislocation of long-established communities. Following on from this, through a close reading of pauper appeals alongside other official sources the authors demonstrate that, despite persistent hardship and inadequate resources, the relationship between paupers and the parish authorities changed markedly over the period. An attitude of supplication and entreaty, rooted in Highland traditions of deference and reflective of a rigid social hierarchy, gave way to a clear sense of entitlement and an expectation that paupers' appeals would—indeed, must—be heard toward the end of the century. This fundamental shift mirrored, and was profoundly influenced by, wider agitation among crofting communities for change.

This article demonstrates empirically how triangulation with other sources can alter the interpretation of oral histories of family strategies. While the interests of oral historians have shifted to postpositivist approaches, basic facts about material context and family events still tend to be drawn from the same narratives. Oral histories of two worker households in early twentieth-century Helsinki are linked with detailed Finnish tax, parish, and poor relief records. The findings point to a number of significant omissions, turn seemingly innocuous factual statements into meaningful strategic representations, and suggest systematic biases in describing livelihoods and sources of income.

The rural areas of Abdón Calderón Parish are sites that today their population does not receive an adequate consumption of energy, first because the communities are far from the generation center and second because of the difficult access conditions of the territory studied. The power lines have installed next to the ravines where most of the population crosses rivers and streams, which cause difficulties mainly of humidity, falling poles among others, causing poor quality of service to consumers. Renewable sources of energy have distributed in the territory; one of the most prominent sources is solar energy, where solar radiation levels are high. The solution to the problems of the quality of energy in a first stage can have solved with small microgrids implementing photovoltaic systems, for this, we have been working on knowing the levels of penetration that can have assumed by the electrical system. The objective of the research is to be able to demonstrate the elements that conspire with the poor quality of the energy and propose in first stage microgrids that take advantage of solar radiation with the implementation of photovoltaic systems.

THE INFLUENCE OF LAW REGULATIONS ‘‘THE TEACHER’S CHART” ON THE SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF PARISHES — BASED ON THE EXAMPLE OF MIRSK PARISHThe following article is atrial to reflect upon the way the legal regulations — the Teacher’s Chart frames the budget of local territorial governments, in this case the parish of Mirsk, and in particular influences the dynamics of capital investments. These in turn has amajor impact on the social–economic development. In the initial considerations, Iconducted adetailed analysis of the teacher’s wages broken down accordingly to the teacher’s qualifications and main components of the pension. Ialso analyzed the origin of entitlements that derive form the above mentioned act. Next, Ipointed out the sources of financing education, both from the state budget and the local governments. Ipresented examples of schools of adifferent status than state schools together with motivating and determining factors that led the local governments to such decisions quoting the court and administrative judicial decisions. In the subsequent part of the article which is dedicated to the analysis of the budget’s incomes and expenses connected with education in Mirsk parish, in charts I enclosed detailed actual state of education in this parish. The data depicts the state of affairs both from the organizational and finical side, in 2012 and 2013. This comparison shows that the Mirsk parish in year 2013 alloted 1,375,837 zł 7,93% of the total income from its own funds, to finance the current functioning of education basic wages and several entitlements listed at the beginning of this article. This sum decreased the sum for capital investments in the infrastructure area in Mirsk parish, such as building of roads, water-supply network or the sewage system. These factors have amajor impact on the social–economic development of the parish. The following article recommends several propositions of reconstruction of school network on the parish territory together with enlisting potential savings deriving from these propositions. The summary of the article encloses the criticism of the existing normative solutions together with the final conclusion that for the last 25 years there has been aconstant lack of political possibility to actually improve and modernize this provision of the law.

Th e study aims is to systematize and analyze the publications about church-parochial schooling in the Uman district, which were found in the provincial newspapers «Kievskoe Slovo», «Kievlyanin», «Life and Art» in order to fi nd out the nature of the coverage of the topic by the secular press within the limits of the micro-historical approach. Th e research methodolo- gy involved the use of the principles of historicism, scientifi c objectivity, systematicity and com plexity. Th e article uses such methods as problem-chronological, descriptive, systematization, heuristic-search. Th e scientifi c novelty lies in the fact that the used sources not only expand the range of knowledge about church-parish schooling, but also convey information about critical aspects of the overall positive assessment of this link of education. Having a secular character, the examined provincial newspapers published information from correspondents, which combined offi cial data and echoes of public opinion. Conclusions. In the years of the rise of church-parish schooling, the secular press of the Kyiv province paid attention to this important matter. Th is was due to the improvement of the informational and legal basis of the functioning of this link of the education of the people, the parish schools of the end of the 19th – beginning of the 19th century. 20th century one and a half dozen publications were devoted to only one Uman district. Th eir thematic direction in a generalized form can be defi ned as follows: statistics of the school network, reports on the state of schools based on the results of visits by offi cials, criticism of the methods of auditing schools, the results of student examinations, the care of Orthodox clergy by schools. Abstract To what extent do Norwegian ministers deal with social-ethical issues in their sermons? While we examine the frequency of such topics in this article, we primarily explore the potential determinants of their priorities in discussing these issues: their individual backgrounds, their ethical and political orientations, the local parish characteristics and the ministers’ sources of inspiration in preparing sermons. The results shows that different ethical orientations appear to be largely unrelated to the frequency of addressing social-ethical issues. Experiences in nature are the most important source of inspiration. The school at which the minister was trained has a significant impact on frequency, while political orientation has a very weak influence. Different parish characteristics—affluence and level of social challenges—and the age and marital status of the clergy do have an impact on which issues are given priority. The minister’s gender and geographical location both have no effect.

Abstract:
Historical and ecclesiastical issues occupy an increasing place in the mass media and in the life of Russian society, since the Orthodox Church, along with other confessions, acts not only as a social institution, but also as a guardian of the material and spiritual culture of the past. In this regard, the history of the Orthodox confession in the country as a whole and in individual regions is of genuine interest. Various problems of the history of Orthodoxy are increasingly reflected in scientific research. Among the most pressing problems are aspects of the social and mental history of society, which caused the need to study historical sources, which previously, due to their vastness or dryness, had no major significance. The article presents an overview of the historical literature on the clerics statements, which were the material for accounting for the parish clergy and the Orthodox population of the Russian Empire since 1769. Introduced into scientific circulation more recently, the clerics statements are a specific historical source about the parish life of Russia during the imperial period. The article presents a historiographical review of the literature on clerics statements and focuses on works in which researchers, one way or another, using the materials of church records of the population, revealed various aspects of the functioning of an Orthodox parish. In general, historical literature can be divided into several blocks. Among them, scientific publications devoted directly to the social status of the parish clergy, their origin, education, moral character, and the practical activities of clerics occupy a leading position. A number of works reveal the state of the flock, its social structure, attitude towards the church and the Orthodox faith in general. Clerics statements are a unique source about the history of a particular parish, locality, diocese, and church art. Of separate note are the works in which the genesis and further changes in the structure and form of the document are considered. In general, the clerics statements have a huge information potential in the study of social history and confessional policy of the state.

In Ecuador, agriculture has an important role to play in its economic development. This, however, is closely related to the change in the production system and consequently its production chains. This fact has made agriculture one of the main sources of income for rural populations in the country. The Altar is a rural parish of Ecuador which belongs to the Penipe canton of the province of Chimborazo due to its geographical location. It has several climates that facilitate the development of agriculture, and a big part of its population is dedicated to the cultivation of Blackberry. Thus, based on the current territorial model, created from a production approach, a proposal for a management model was designed. This proposal aims to improve agricultural production, generate added value, and introduce new agricultural products into the Markets for marketing. In conclusion, the proposed management model is a tool that can be applied to the producers and marketers of the Altar parish, with the purpose of generating greater economic income.

Abstract:
The right of patronage in Church law was understood as a set of rights and responsibilities with regard to a benefice. As benefices were mostly located on the founder’s estate, it became customary that the owner (or owners) of the locality where the parish church was situated was the parish patron. A major visible element of exercising the right of patronage was presentation to the bishop of clergymen to be considered for granting vacant benefices. Of the 19 parishes existing in Szadek decanate in the first half of the 16th century, two churches had royal patronage, six – ecclesiastical, and the most of them (11) had noblemen as patrons. In the second half of the 18th century the number of parishes in the decanate reached 27 as a result of further foundations by members of the nobility. The article presents, on the basis of available sources, the patrons of the parishes as in the second half of the 18th century.

Abstract:
This article presents architectural transformations in the parish church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (originally the Blessed Virgin Mary) in Żary. The church is one of themost interesting brick churches in the borderland between Silesia and Lusatia. Unfortunately, the church has featured very little in the literature, and only its non-extant Romanesque west arm is discussed. Based on the scant written sources, and the results of architectural researchand archaeological excavations, the author discusses the formation and transformation of the parish church from the 13th century to the end of the 17th century. The Romanesque chancel and choir were built in the 13th century. The Gothic reconstruction of the choir was completed in 1309 and of the western arm in 1401. The next significant construction took place in the second half of the 17th century, when the Promnitz funeral chapel was built next to the choir and galleries were built in the aisles.

Abstract:
The main aim of the paper is to discuss the scale and nature of the practice of transmitting Holy Mass by parishes of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland through online live-streaming in spring 2020. The authors analyse these issues in a multifaceted and interdisciplinary way, mainly within the framework of communication and media studies and theology. The methodology of the paper combines practical theology (its four stages: “see-judge-act-review”), scientific methods applicable to social studies (especially social communication and media studies and sociological studies), and the technical aspect of communication activities (in the form of live video streaming) performed by parishes on the Internet. As it turns out, 40.8% of Polish parishes carried out online Mass broadcasts. In most cases, the main sources of broadcast signal were YouTube (18.9%) and Facebook (18.7%), while less than 5% of the parishes conducted technically independent broadcasts. The research showed a statistically significant correlation between online Mass broadcasting and the region of Poland. There was a statistically significant difference between the parish size and Mass broadcasting—the larger the parish, the more often such activities were performed; a similar correlation was observed between urban and rural parishes. Research has shown that in the dioceses where bishops directly encouraged parish priests to broadcast from their parishes, the average percentage of broadcasts was higher (46%) than in those in which there were no such incentives (38%). There was a statistically significant relationship between having a website and conducting online Mass broadcasting. Similarly, there was a statistically significant relationship between the type of parish (conventual–diocesan) and online Mass broadcasting. Conventual parishes did this much more often than diocesan ones (68.6% and 38.9% respectively).

Abstract:
This paper starts by describing Roger Schofield's work on the measurement of literacy, and especially his use of the proportion of brides and grooms who could sign the marriage register to quantify the extent of illiteracy among different sections of society. The paper then discusses other potential sources of data on illiteracy. Frequently these sources describe local social events, in which the politics of the parish intersect the history of the nation, and social, cultural, and political history come together. Work using these sources can expose some of the intangibles of ideology, religion, and morality to which literacy only gestures. Linking these records to other local sources may reveal how kinship, neighbourliness, or economic associations drove participation in ritual, cultural, and quasi-political activities. The final part of the paper illustrates this using an extended example of the response of the local population to the wreck of a ship off the coast of Dorset in 1641.

Abstract:
For well over a century scholars with a variety of concerns have inquired into the level of literacy in pre-Petrine Russia with mixed success at best. The problem is well known: The array of sources upon which historians of other cultures typically rely to estimate levels of literacy–parish records, wills, service records, and tax lists–either do not exist for pre–Petrine Russia or do not provide the volume of data necessary for computing literacy in a statistically meaningful way.

Abstract:
Omawia on lokalizację i wezwanie kościołów w Grzegorzewie oraz inkorporację kościoła parafialnego do kanonii kapituły uniejowskiej dokonaną w XVI w. W sposób szczegółowy traktuje stan kościoła parafialnego św. Stanisława i św. Mikołaja, a w XVII w. św. Piotra i Pawła również wpływającego na rekonstrukcję sytuacji Kościoła w Grzegorzewie. Abstract:
Traditionally, studies of historical mortality have focused on the national, regional, or local levels. Currently, the creation of individual level databases has made it possible to study mortality at the individual and family levels, also following people over generations. However, this research rarely considered non-family relations; at the same time, rapid urbanisation during the late nineteenth century severed many family ties and hindered the transmission of traditional models for demographic behaviour. Thus, the role of non-family factors increased, the main of which was the church parish, which since the end of the nineteenth century gradually transformed into a neighborhood community — the prototype of the urban microdistrict. This research aims to study the mortality of the adult population of Ekaterinburg during the decades around 1900, differentiating between the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church. The sources consist of official statistics and the Ural Population Project database, which was created based on the metric (church) books. The authors reconstruct the full development of mortality for each parish and for Ekaterinburg as a whole; map the structure of mortality, calculate the average age at death, as well as analyse the causes of death and its seasonality. As a result, it may be concluded that each of the five Orthodox parishes indeed had a certain demographic specificity. Mortality was influenced by the economic profile of the area and the trend of urban development, where the location of social facilities on the territory of each parish was of great importance.

Abstract:
This study examines demographic trends within the micro unit Veljaci in the municipality of Ljubuški. The sources of primary data were the oldest registers of births from the turn of the 19th century in the area encompassed in the parish Veljaci. The data were analysed using historical and demographic, microhistorical and comparative-historical methodological approach. The research goalis to present former demographic reality of this micro-space at the empire border describe its demographic indicators and their dynamics, especially those related to the birth rate, and pinpoint any trends that would indicate demographic trends of the surrounding area, that is, former parish Ljubuški as a whole. With limited research and analysis of data collected in heuristic procedures for a broader and more comprehensive study of Ljubuški population, we gained an insight into demographic reality of this area from the extreme periphery of the Ottoman Empire at the turn of the 19th century. Comparative-historical approach showed that the characteristics fit into the regularity established by various studies, of geographically closer, but also more remote areas. The analysis of the anthrophonymy corpus also proved similar facts. The analysis of the data from parish registers provided the first, preliminary insight into the demographic image of one section of Ljubuški, and we hope that further research of the entire micro-unit of Ljubuški will significantly complement it and at least partially reconstruct its entire demographic development.

Abstract:
Due to the teacher shortage in the U.S., an automatic toolbox with secondary development based on the ArcPy package was created to explore the spatial imbalance of the pupil–teacher ratio. It consists of four tools (or toolsets) for multi-scale spatial visualization, a sensitivity analysis with a heat map, the ordinary least squares regression with spatial autocorrelation, and the random forest tree regression. This study demonstrated the application of the toolset in the evaluation of educational resource spatial misallocation. Firstly, multi-scale analysis results showed that, the loss of teachers was mainly distributed in Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and California from the state level, while it focused on such counties as Terrebonne Parish, Concordia Parish, and Bienville Parish in Louisiana in the county level. Secondly, it was found through heatmap sensitivity analysis that pupil–teacher ratios were highly related to low levels of student support services staff, free lunch programs, and low levels of local education agency (LEA) administrators. Then, the OLS tool was used to automatically calculate the spatial weighted matrix, the Moran I, R2, and AICC indices, AdjR2, F-Stat, F-Prob, and the Wald statistic, which showed whether the model was significant or not. This was followed by random forest tree regression modeling, which found that the LEA administrative support staff and the totally free lunch number highly impacted pupil–teacher ratios. Besides, the designed tool provided ribbons for the Common Core of Data (CCD) to link to other data sources.
