Abstract:
This article reports findings from a process and impact study of a residential early parenting centre programme in Australia. The programme supports parents with young children under the age of three, referred from health and child protection services. Multiple sources of data were used from interviews, focus groups, direct observations, observer notes and a parenting sense of competence questionnaire. Qualitative data were analysed using thematic analyses, and paired t-tests were used to test data from the questionnaire. Three themes emerged from thematic analysis of the qualitative data: engaging families, building parenting capacity and transitioning back to the community. Parents’ perceptions of parent competence improved significantly between admission and discharge for participating families. Detailed accounts of the way in which nurses work to achieve positive outcomes in relation to parenting confidence and satisfaction in the short term have provided useful insights into often taken-for-granted support processes in working with referred parents. The complexity of the nurses’ role and implications for nursing practice in residential parenting centres are discussed. Future research is warranted to determine longer-term benefits of this programme being delivered in a residential early parenting centre.

Parenting education is carried out in various forms of routine and incidental activities. Supporting factors are the commitment of educators and parents in running the program, the availability of adequate facilities and infrastructure. Inhibiting factors are low parenting awareness and busy working parents resulting in low involvement in activities. Parenting education is very important for a better child’s life, for that there needs to be good management in every early childhood education.

Abstract:
Children need education to increase their roles in society. Children education through formal, non-formal, and/or informal education is held to improve the quality of children's skills. Given the huge and importance of the process of parenting education, hence this study aims to determine the influence of parenting on children. Children are great blessings people must be grateful for, hence they deserve the best parenting by their parents. However, parents still treat their children differently. This discussion aims to identify various styles or methods of parenting and their impacts on children. This discussion consisted of four types of parenting proposed by Eisenburg et al. These parenting types are more specific and focused on children’s gender development than other parenting styles that are more general. The four types of parenting are channeling/shaping, direct introduction, differential treatment, and models. There are four types of parenting model according to some psychologists, which are authoritative parenting, neglectful parenting, permissive parenting, and democratic parenting. These four types have their own impacts. While some other opinions believe that authoritative parenting style has 6 (six) parenting styles, which are: Accept children's opinion, Ask about children's mistakes without accusing them, Give advice upon their mistakes, Give appreciation, Give presents, and Facilitate their hobbies.

Abstract:
The research was organized with an aim to determine whether there is a correlation between sexual education in a family and parenting styles. Understanding a parenting style, we started from the theoretical concept of D. Baumrind. The research used the following instruments: The Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ) Robinson, CC, Mandleco, B., Olsen, SF, & Hart, CH (2001), Parent / Adolescent Communication (PAC-J / M) James Jaccard, Patricia J. Dittus and Vivian V. Gordon (2000) & Miller (1998). Factor analysis showed that a dominant feeling among adolescents was shame to talk with parents about sex and contraception. We found statistically significant positive correlation between adolescent embarrassment and authoritarian parental style from a mother 0.546, and authoritarian parental style from a father 0.276, both significant at the level of 0.01, which confirms the hypothesis that the authoritarian style is associated with inadequate sexual education. The research results indicate the need for awareness of parents about the importance of sexual education because inadequate sexual education in family is a predictor for future risky sexual behavior. The results also point to the role of schools in educating parents in the context of a parenting style and sexual education.

Although teachers work constantly with parents, discussions concerning parental roles in children’s music learning are often left at the margins in music teacher training programs. The aim of this article is to offer a review of musical parenting research from an ecological perspective. Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory of human development is used as a lens to examine musical parenting research concerning infants, school-aged children, and adolescents. Issues pertaining to contemporary parenting in the Western world such as intensive parenting and concerted cultivation are also considered as they relate to parental music cognitions and behaviors. Implications for research and practice in music education are outlined at the end.

Abstract:
Parenting education programs aim to teach parents, often low-income mothers, a set of skills, behaviors, and attitudes believed to promote improved opportunities for their children. Parenting programs are often offered in schools, with instructors teaching pregnant or parenting teens about child development, attachment, and discipline strategies. Despite the large numbers of participants and significant public and private funding going to parenting education, sociologists of education in the United States have paid little attention to the topic. Existing research, by scholars in other disciplines, has found parenting education to be a relatively weak intervention. Yet this research focuses exclusively on individual-level processes, paying little attention to social context or other factors. This study uses extensive observational and interview data from parenting education programs in two schools and one social service organization to examine what is taught, what is not, and the intersections between program content and the structural realities shaping parents’ lives. The results show that although they were designed for low-income mothers, the classes were silent on the issue of poverty, treating poverty-related concerns as irrelevant to the task of parenting. Furthermore, when such topics did emerge, instructors redirected the conversations to personal behaviors and characteristics. Thus, the ‘‘hidden curriculum’’ of parenting education conveyed the message that good parenting should be unaffected by the challenges of poverty. The mothers, however, struggled to provide for their children in conditions of extreme scarcity, making it difficult for them to focus on other parenting issues.

Abstract:
This curriculum framework was developed based on the assumed ability of expectant parents to comprehend early parenting information. The Parenting in Pregnancy curriculum is designed to integrate parenting information into an existing traditional childbirth education program in a framework that strengthens both types of preparation because it assists parents to generalize the use of the coping skills they are learning. This curriculum encourages childbirth educators to “insert” efficiently and effectively parenting materials into their current curricula. This parenting information provides parents with the coping mechanisms they need to attach to their newborn children and raise them in a non-judgmental environment. In the same way, childbirth education provides the opportunity for parents to problem-solve before labor and delivery. The author theorizes that the captivated childbirth education parents learning labor and delivery techniques can reuse these same techniques for effective postpartum parenting. In part II (Journal of Perinatal Education, 8(1), a study on the use of this curriculum with parents will be reported.

Abstract:
Because parents of children with cerebral palsy encounter many challenges, the quality of their parenting varies substantially across time. To understand how and why their parenting behaviors change across time, we examined the contributions of child behavior and parents’ psychological needs to explanations of yearly variation in responsive, autonomy-supportive, and psychologically controlling parenting. We also explored whether parents’ motivation to take care of their child explained why some parents engage in better-quality parenting than others. Parents ( N = 117) of children with cerebral palsy ( Mage = 10.98 years) participated in a three-wave longitudinal study. Multilevel analyses indicated that yearly variations in parents’ need satisfaction and frustration related to yearly fluctuations in, respectively, autonomy-supportive and psychologically controlling parenting. Child behaviors had few unique effects on parenting. Parents’ autonomous motivation was associated with better overall quality of parenting. We discuss implications for practice and directions for future research.

Abstract:
The present study examined the relationship between parenting styles and the psychosocial adjustment of 48 children aged 7 to 11 years, each of whom had been identified as gifted on the basis of a score of 130 or above on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children–Fourth Edition. Parenting styles and child psychosocial adjustment were measured using self-report questionnaires. Nineteen of the 48 gifted children in the sample (39.6%) were described by their parents as having peer social problems, descriptions that were not consistent with results obtained from the children and their teachers. Mothers also reported more child conduct problems than did the teachers. No associations were found between parenting styles and social problems with peers. Although the findings supported existing research on fathers’ parenting styles, some of the relationships between mothers’ parenting style and gifted child outcomes were not consistent with previous studies on parenting styles.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have developmental problems that can be a source of stress for parents. This study aimed to measures the parenting stress experienced by parents of ASD children in relation to social support and parental characteristics, namely education level and income. This study involved 50 parents of ASD children who send their children to several special schools in Lampung, Indonesia. Research data were obtained using the parenting stress index, social support scale, and parental characteristics data. The collected data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results of the study found that parents of ASD children experienced moderate parenting stress. Social support and a high level of education were found to have a significant effect on parenting stress, while income did not. Social support was found to be the strongest predictor of parenting stress. The results of the study illustrate that the parenting stress experienced by parents of ASD children in Indonesia is not as high as found in other countries. This study has implications on the emphasis of social support as an interventions to deal with parenting stress in parents of ASD children in Indonesia.
