Abstract:
Parametric design, driven by digital technology, has sparked extensive research and debate in the domains of architecture and urban planning, offering a new approach to issue solving. Architecture and landscape architecture, like architecture and urban planning, are disciplines that are part of the artificial environment. Architectural landscape design has begun to be influenced by parametric design. This study presents a more technical parametric design technique of architectural landscape design that involves artificial intelligence parametric analysis and proposes an architectural landscape planning and design method that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) parametric analysis. This is a new discipline of concurrent design that complements and expands architectural landscape design methodologies and is based on artificial intelligence methods. This study integrates artificial intelligence parametric design theory and methodology into architectural landscape design and presents a parametric method appropriate for landscape architecture design based on architectural landscape architecture characteristics.

Abstract:
<p>Deep learning neural networks based on the manual design for image classification tasks usually require a large amount of a priori knowledge and experience from experts; thus, research on designing neural network architectures automatically has been widely performed. The neural architecture search (NAS) method based on the differentiable architecture search (DARTS) ignores the interrelationships within the searched network architecture cells. The optional operations in the architecture search space lack diversity, and the large parametric and non-parametric operations in the search space make the search process inefficient. We propose a NAS method based on a dual attention mechanism (DAM-DARTS). An improved attention mechanism module is introduced to the cell of the network architecture to deepen the interrelationships between the important layers within the architecture by enhancing the attention between them, which improves the accuracy of the architecture and reduces the architecture search time. We also propose a more efficient architecture search space by adding attention operations to increase the complex diversity of the searched network architectures and reduce the computational cost consumed in the search process by reducing non-parametric operations. Based on this, we further analyze the impact of changing some operations in the architecture search space on the accuracy of the architectures. Through extensive experiments on several open datasets, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed search strategy, which is highly competitive with other existing neural network architecture search methods.</p>

Abstract:
In the past fifteen years avant-garde architectural practice has been developing in the field of parametric design at the phenomenal speed. This success can be attributed to the development of advanced computer software, previously used for animation and rendering. The parametric design method uses advanced computer scripts which transforms mathematic algorithms of relations between parameters into creations of complex geometries, which were almost impossible to produce and even imagine without it.Question remains will these mathematical equations inputed thru scripting language as algorithms will add additional value to the design, or traditional, intuitive way of designing still can be relevant enough in 21st century. There are doubts that without deep intellectual background parametric design process can play for the play’s sake with the shapes of objects, buildings and urban structures.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Augmented Reality (AR) represents a growing communication channel, responding to the need to expand reality with additional information, offering easy and engaging access to digital data. AR for architectural representation allows a simple interaction with 3D models, facilitating spatial understanding of complex volumes and topological relationships between parts, overcoming some limitations related to Virtual Reality. In the last decade different developments in the pipeline process have seen a significant advancement in technological and algorithmic aspects, paying less attention to 3D modeling generation. For this, the article explores the construction of basic geometries for 3D model’s generation, highlighting the relationship between geometry and topology, basic for a consistent normal distribution. Moreover, a critical evaluation about corrective paths of existing 3D models is presented, analysing a complex architectural case study, the virtual model of Villa del Verginese, an emblematic example for topological emerged problems. The final aim of the paper is to refocus attention on 3D model construction, suggesting some "good practices" useful for preventing, minimizing or correcting topological problems, extending the accessibility of AR to people engaged in architectural representation.</p>

Abstract:
In recent decades, the search for new geometrical innovations has been of great interest for contemporary architects artists, trying to escape the repetitive use of historical ornamental details of architectural styles orders or the absence of such ornaments in the modern style. This paper aims to lay down the basis for generating new muqarnas elements based on the cosmological nature of Islamic Architecture, but still preserving its concepts. The muqarnas was chosen because it is one of most original inventions of Islamic architecture and one of its most effective and widespread applications. Innovation in its design requires freedom of expression that can be limited by design software. Furthermore, the process of testing ideas can be tedious and time-consuming. Parametric and generative design, using Grasshopper, is used to reformulate the muqarnas generation process using visual programming. Parametric design and hypothetical geometric patterns in a linear or polar arraying direction produce a clearly defined muqarnas.

Abstract:
Modern architecture is parametric architecture. Parametric entered our life not only through architecture, but also through design, fashion, industry, art. Zaha Hadid’s leading architects for many years successfully working in the style of parametric. Although parametric is rooted in digital animation techniques of the mid-1990s, it only became fully apparent in recent years with the development of advanced parametric computer programs. The so-called digital architecture, closely associated with programming, automatically converts volume, making it technically and economically feasible. Using computer programs, we can create a “thinking” building. Using the morphogenesis algorithm applied to different situations, we get unique buildings that are members of the same “population”. The most modern example of analysis allows us to determine the patterns of regional development by 25 parameters. Programmers have developed various scripts that form blocks around the perimeter, depending on the size of the land, proportion and orientation. These scripts are used in their work by leading architects in the field of parametric. This is best seen in the master plans of Zaha Hadid. Thus, the dynamic parametric architecture doesn’t create a separate building, but integrates it into the structure of space, linking modern architecture with the historical development of the city.

Abstract. This paper proposes a design for libraries of European Classical architectural elements based on shape grammars. This design is based on a workflow which develops library objects from 3D CAD primitives using architectural rules to construct parametric representations of architectural elements. In the case of Classical architecture, the design and detail for the parametric objects are based on manuscripts ranging from Vitruvius to Palladio to the architectural pattern books of the eighteenth century. The generation of 3D objects for virtual reconstruction necessitates the application of computer algorithms and rules introduced by the user to generate objects, buildings and spaces from a grammar and vocabulary of shapes. Both the use of graphicly constructed and coded parametric libraries in formal and open-source platforms will be considered here.

Abstract:
With computer technology contentiously improving, parametric design has been playing much more important role in architectural design. Parametric Design, as a design method and a tool arisen with information age, is the most recent trend in architecture. Parametric design tool improvements and wide application options has undoubtedly motivated building structural design and brought up more complex architectural works, especially on nonlinear structures. Sports buildings, due to their special functions, it calls for structures that provide large span. Therefore, there are many technical requirements in the design of sports buildings. Traditionally, sports building form is limited by structural calculation. With improved computer technology, especially parametric design tools, sports building forms become more diversified, complex and nonlinear. Parametric design helps with the dynamic interaction between architects and heir work, consequently achieves quick design and dynamic adjustments of complex structures, simplifies the design process, and finally provides more efficient and direct design method for sports building design.

Abstract:
Parametric design has been perceived as a highly sophisticated set of procedures requiring complex specialized softwares, making its introduction as part of undergraduate architectural education difficult. The aim of this study is to explore the possibility of introducing parametric thinking to novice architectural design students, using a purpose-designed non-CAD method. After a detailed lecture, students were asked to use the method to perform a design task based on parametric design principles and inspired by elements from vernacular architecture. Students’ feedback was obtained in regard to three learning domains: Intellectual Skills, Cognitive Strategies, and Affective; and the effects of previous knowledge of CAD and gender were explored. The data was analysed statistically. Results showed that the method has managed to successfully address the three learning domains, with most of the students expressing a strong intention to learn more about Parametricism. Both genders were found to be equally prepared to receive and accept information about parametric design through our method. Students with previous CAD training showed better control over the method, whereas the other group showed better appreciation of the concept. It is concluded that when parametric thinking is seen as a pedagogic intention and not as a design tool, it can be effectively introduced to novice design students, in order to prepare them to meet the demand in practice for graduates who are aware of the recent trends in architectural design and form generation processes, and who are prepared to use the latest digital tools efficiently.

Modern trends in parametric architecture take us away from the use of static surfaces, pushing the dynamics to the first place. A new approach to architecture is opened, based on the dynamic development of shaping. The desire to develop the most optimal ratio of strength and expended material leads to an assessment of the prospects for the use of minimal and one-sided surfaces. Using the example of varying the parameters of a onesided Klein surface, the evolution of a parametric object from a simple Mobius strip to a complex dynamic form is demonstrated. The formation of the analytical surface in various software packages was studied. The sphere of applicability of various stages of form evolution to architectural objects is established.

Abstract:
With the flexibility and modularity of the construction system, the ancient Chinese architecture was a configurative system until the modern time when it became figurative with nationalistic symbolism, and lost its flexibility to adapt in different functions. Through this study, the researchers try to exploit and release the powerful adaptation of this configurative system by using the method of parametric design. First of all, according to the modern parametric theory, the logic of the traditional structural system is found out by abandoning the feudal social hierarchical factors. And then, a 3D model of parametric structure with wide adaptability is established in Rhino by using its parametric design plug-in Grasshopper. Finally, on the basis of the modern parametric skin theory, two skin systems are attached to this new structure separately, in order to prove the feasibility of the new skin idea to this structure. Through the introduction of parametric modeling steps, this paper focuses on mining the modern adaptability of Chinese traditional architecture.

Abstract:
Tree-like architectures and branching structures are one of the analogical designs that are among the nature inspired structures arousing attention of the designers, inspiring them and that are frequently confronted throughout the history of architecture. Likewise, trees are structural models for designers beyond the plant and branching patterns that are used as architectural ornamentation. Trees have the characteristics of being mentors for architects and engineers concerning how the vertical and the horizontal loads are transmitted through the trunks, branches, and leaves and how the balance is provided. Within this context, it is possible to claim that a quite wide and intuitively developed structural knowledge is acquired with the tree analogies throughout the history of architecture. By the development of computational design technologies, there have been significant developments in the design and the building of tree-like structures. Especially the number of branching, angles of dendroids, lengths, and the other parameters can be defined by using algorithms and can be optimized also by the help of computational tools. In this paper, the historical development and classification of the tree-like structures have been carried out and Frei Otto who is the pioneer to pave the way for innovative structures related to this field has been selected to revisit the efficiency of lightweight columns inspired by nature. One of the experimental studies of Otto in which he called as “minimum path system” has been determined as the case study; the parametric design behind the structure has been analyzed and reproduced by using a parametric software. The structural effectiveness has been determined and discussed by testing the obtained models using a FEM program under horizontal and vertical loads. Consequently, the structural effectiveness of today’s computational technologies and the branching structures that Otto built intuitively and by natural analogies have been able to be tested and the possible potentials that can be leading for today’s architects have been demonstrated.

Abstract:
The aim of the work is to study the ways to strengthen the elements of the parametric architecture object framework based on the use of the new materials. The problem of strengthening the elements of the building frame is particularly relevant in connection with the development of the parametric architecture. Unlike the traditional methods of regulation and amplification, composite materials allow to change the stress-strain state and improve the dynamic characteristics of the parametric architecture object without increasing its own structures weight. The studies were performed using numerical simulation by the finite element method. Recommendations are given on the use of the physical and mechanical properties of the composite materials when strengthening the building framework.

Abstract:
Designing with biological materials as a burgeoning approach in the architecture field requires the development of new design strategies and fabrication methods. In this paper, we question if designers can use a parametric design approach while working with living materials. The research uses fungi as a biomaterial probe to experiment with the parametric behavior of living systems. Running design experiments using fungi helps to understand the extent to which biological systems can be considered parametric and, if so, what kind of parametric systems they are. Answering these questions provides a method to work with complex biological systems and may lead to new approaches of fabricating materials by tuning the environmental parameters of biological growth.

Abstract:
Background Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide. Currently, convolution neural networks (CNNs) are achieving remarkable success in various computer vision tasks, and in medical imaging research. Various CNN architectures and methodologies have been applied in the field of prostate cancer diagnosis. In this work, we evaluate the impact of the adaptation of a state-of-the-art CNN architecture on domain knowledge related to problems in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. The architecture of the final CNN model was optimised on the basis of the Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) standard, which is currently the best available indicator in the acquisition, interpretation, and reporting of prostate multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) examinations. Methods A dataset containing 330 suspicious findings identified using mpMRI was used. Two CNN models were subjected to comparative analysis. Both implement the concept of decision-level fusion for mpMRI data, providing a separate network for each multi-parametric series. The first model implements a simple fusion of multi-parametric features to formulate the final decision. The architecture of the second model reflects the diagnostic pathway of PI-RADS methodology, using information about a lesion’s primary anatomic location within the prostate gland. Both networks were experimentally tuned to successfully classify prostate cancer changes. Results The optimised knowledge-encoded model achieved slightly better classification results compared with the traditional model architecture (AUC = 0.84 vs. AUC = 0.82). We found the proposed model to achieve convergence significantly faster. Conclusions The final knowledge-encoded CNN model provided more stable learning performance and faster convergence to optimal diagnostic accuracy. The results fail to demonstrate that PI-RADS-based modelling of CNN architecture can significantly improve performance of prostate cancer recognition using mpMRI.

Abstract:
Abstract Just as the capabilities of machine tool design influenced the aesthetic form of streamlined industrial design products during the mechanical age, the embedded curves and splines of digital software employed by architects today originated in the offices of automobile and aeroplane manufacturers from the post-war era. The use and reproduction of smooth, curvilinear forms would not appear in the field of architecture until many decades after their development within industrial design. The current relationship between architecture and industrial design is forged through the innovative use of Computer Numerical Control fabrication and the parametric procedures and software invented for its use. This article investigates the history of designing and fabricating complex, curved surfaces in industrial design and architecture in order to establish the technological and theoretical links between these two fields. It involves the transfer of technological knowledge amongst a diverse cast of designers, engineers and architects from multiple continents that took place over a period of 40 years. Moreover, this research claims that the origins of parametric architectural design can be found in this moment of developing and programming numerically controlled machines.

The purpose of this research is to investigate general workflow of parametric architecture design basing on building physical performance. Earlier study on parametric design have shown that this method can effectively improve quality and diversity in terms of architecture appearance. In addition, design time could also be saved in this way. Nevertheless, research about parametric design on building configuration basing on building physical performance is still insufficient. Hence, this study investigates the specific workflow of parametric design in the basis of building performance. The result show that whole workflow can be divided into three steps:1) variables input 2) objective function determination 3) optimization operation. Combination of different component conducts in every step and realize final optimal scheme.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to define and characterize design and composite solutions of objects of parametric design, their adaptation to the formation of tectonic structure of clothing models and the development of a fashionable costume collection. In the study of basic concepts of parametric design, a comparative analysis was conducted, visual-graphic means of artistic and stylistic generalization and interpretation in various fields ofdesign and architecture were applied. The analysis of collections of designer brands' clothing was carried out by using composite analysis and method of systems design. The system-structural approach and graphical modeling of the form were applied to determine the conceptual decisions, to form the project image of the costume collection and to develop clothing models. The principles and peculiarities of shaping in parametric design, as well as the means of their implementation in the objects of architecture, sculpture, in the design of costume and accessories, are investigated. The development of parametric design in the formation of actual models of clothing, taking into account world trends in the modern market is investigated in the paper. The design and compositional means and structural elements of the parametric design in the project image creating and the development of the clothing collection are characterized. Theoretical substantiation of artistic and stylistic modifications of the project image with the use of parametric elements of forms determined the ways of their transfer and transformation in the development of fashionable clothing of mass demand. Based on the analysis of the creativity of fashion designers in this area, the relevance of the costume design on the basis of parametric characteristics of architectural objects has been revealed. It describes 3D printing tools, sophisticated articulation and repetition of form elements as the guiding principles of parametric design embodied in clothing design. The study for the first time comprehensively considered the means of adapting the features of parametric design objects in the formation of tectonic structure of actual costume models.

Abstract:
Aims of research. Due to the growing interest in the design, calculation and application of architectural structures and structures in the form of a variety of smooth and composite surfaces, it is interesting to illustrate the use of analytical surfaces, i.e. surfaces that can be defined by vector, parametric or explicit equations, in parametric architecture. Methods. Parametric design unlike other styles has a relationship with mathematics. This article continues the author’s series of works devoted to the application of analytical surfaces in architecture and engineering structures, the study of the influence of studies on the geometric of ruled surfaces on the creation of unique projects of large-span shell structures and buildings. The article provides a list of known analytical surfaces, and each surface is illustrated by a photo of only one real structure, outlined on this surface. Results. It turned out that only degenerate unfolding surfaces described in the scientific literature found application in the world. For those who are interested in the mathematical side of the design of analytical surfaces, their computer modeling, or more detailed information about the real structures in the form of the surfaces under consideration is a bibliography of 20 items.

The author's 2005 Leonardo publication documented a biology-based procedure for generating experimental digital architecture. The text evolved out of Louis Sullivan's morphological lexicon and design process as articulated in A System of Architectural Ornament. The present article is rooted in that paper but here infused with theoretical ideas from Leibniz, Deleuze, Rajchman and Dawkins emphasizing biodesign and bioarchitecture's role as part of nature. In addition, new projects and digitally grown tree/truss experiments illustrate generative, digital-botanic designs integrating biological simulation and/or 3D parametric components inspired by nature.
