Three treatments were used in two-year (2014–2015) field experiments with broccoli cv. Bejo 2914 F1: (1) untreated control; (2) Zn<sub>0.75</sub> – Zinkuran SC as foliar fertiliser at the rate of 0.75 L/ha (375 g Zn/ha); (3) Zn<sub>1.50</sub> – Zinkuran SC as foliar fertiliser at the rate of 1.50 L/ha (750 g Zn/ha). The statistically significant differences of individual broccoli parameters were found after zinc applications. In both experimental years the yield of broccoli with additional zinc fertilisation was significantly higher by about 8.2–14.4% (Zn<sub>0.75</sub>) and 12.5–17.5% (Zn<sub>1.50</sub>), respectively, than in the control. Foliar zinc application significantly increased the sulforaphane content in broccoli florets by about 19.8–32.9% (Zn<sub>0.75</sub>) and 37.2–49.3% (Zn<sub>1.50</sub>), respectively, compared to the control. By contrast, the content of total polyphenolics (of about 9.0–12.5% (Zn<sub>0.75</sub>) and 33.9–35.2% (Zn<sub>1.50</sub>)) and antioxidant activity (Zn<sub>0.75</sub> (3.7–4.2%) and Zn<sub>1.50</sub> (5.3–7.0)) decreased as a result of zinc fertilisation. The investigations pointed to zinc as a very important micronutrient with strong influence on the yield and chosen qualitative, health promoting parameters of broccoli.

Abstract: An analysis on psycholinguistics field has been conducted by the writer to find out the speech produced by the 5 years old ’native bilingual’ child namely Helga Claresta Raudina. Descriptive qualitative is used as the method of the research, the data required are obtained by interviewing the respondent. The lexical and grammatical types of speech produced by the respondent are analysed based on the psycholinguistics theories. This research is done to give valuable information and description of how the five years old child produces their languages. Abstrak: Analisis psikolinguistik telah dilakukan oleh penulis untuk mengetahui kemampuan berbicara bilingual anak 5 tahun, yaitu Helga Claresta Raudina. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh dengan mewawancarai responden. Jenis leksikal dan gramatikal berbicara dihasilkan oleh responden dianalisis berdasarkan teori psikolinguistik. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk memberikan informasi yang berharga dan deskripsi tentang bagaimana seorang anak berusia lima tahun memproduksi bahasa.

Abstrak: Penelitian skripsi ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan gambaran dan informasi tentang penerapan pembelajaran pendidikan perdamaian yang dilakukan di komunitas Sekolah Perempuan Pondok Bambu, Jakarta Timur.Pembelajaran merupakan hal penting untuk membangun mental spiritual perempuan di Lapas Perempuan Pondok Bambu.Masalahnya adalah hasil pembelajaran di Pondok Bambu ini masih belum begitu jelas hususnya dalam membangun mental spiritual perempuan di Lapas Bambu ini. Diperlukan upaya untuk membangun pembelajaran yang lebih berkualitas yang mampu membangun wawasan,msikap mental dan keterampilan para warga binaan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif (qualitative research) dengan desain penelitian paradigma sederhana. Penentuan sampel menggunakan teknik Purposive Sampling ditentukan informan sebanyak 20 orang. Tekhnik pengumpulan data menggunakan instrument berupa pedoman wawancara dengan informan dan pihak ketiga untuk menambah data dan mengkonfirmasikan data serta observasi langsung. Temuan peneliti dilapangan menunjukkan kegiatan pembelajaran pendidikan perdamain di Sekolah Perempuan Pondok Bambu merupakan kegiatan yang dilakukan dalam menjawab kebutuhan akan rasa damai dalam kehidupan berkeluarga dan bermasyarakat. Terdapat perubahan-perubahan positif yang menunjukkan nilai-nilai perdamaian yang terjadi pada komunitas Sekolah Perempuan Pondok Bambu.Pembelajaran yang diarahkan menumbuhkan tiga aspek utama pada komunitas ini yaitu pengetahuan, keterampilan dan sikap untuk mengembangkan budaya damai secara global. Pengetahun, sikap dan keterampilan komunitas mencerminkan kebudayaan dan nilai-nilai perdamaian yang ada pada pendidikan perdamaian.

Abstract:
The role of preparations supporting plant growth is mainly to reduce the harmful effects of various stress factors on plants and to ensure high yields of good quality. This experiment compared the effect of the mineral stimulator Tytanit® and the biological preparation Effective Microorganisms (EM) on the physiological and biochemical activity, as well as the yield of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). The photosynthetic pigments, free proline and malondialdehyde were assayed and compared at three phenological phases of the bean: 15 BBCH, 24 BBCH, 65 BBCH. The yield parameters included the average number of pods per plant, as well as their fresh and dry mass. Additionally, the nutrient content in the pods was determined according to the atomic absorption spectrometry method. The study revealed a positive effect of both preparations on increasing the content of chlorophyll a, b, and the carotenoids in the bean leaves. Plants treated with Tytanit® were characterised by the highest content of malondialdehyde and proline, while EM maintained the aldehyde content on a similar level compared to the untreated plants and significantly reduced the proline content. Both preparations significantly decreased the Mn, Mg, P, and Ca content in the pods and did not have a substantial impact on the yield.

Because of the volunteer difficult to communicated with them, because One of the students still difficult to understand what he is talking about. He jus Said with duplicated what Hie friend Said. But, the attitude intensity decline like suddenly running to teacher who explaining a subject in front of the class. This indicates a successfull Action which is given to student with autism. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah dengan diterapkannya ‘peer mediated buddy program’ kepada siswa dengan autisme disekolah inklusi akan dapat meningkatkan kompetensi sosial siswa dengan autisme. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teman sebaya yang sudah dilatih dan sengaja dipasangkan untuk membantu siswa dengan autisme bersosialisasi baik di dalam maupun di luar kelas. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan selama tindakan berlangsung, tampak terlihat bahwa sukarelawan masih agak kebingungan pada awalnya ketika berinteraksi dengan siswa dengan autisme. Hal ini dikarenakan kendala komunikasi diantara mereka, salah satu siswa dengan autisme dalam penelitian ini memang cara berkomunikasinya masih sulit dipahami. dia berkomunikasi seperti membeo hanya menirukan kata-kata yang diucapkan oleh teman sukarelawannya. Namun ada penurunan intensitas perilaku yang kurang menyenangkan seperti berlari secara tiba-tiba ke arah guru yang sedang menerangkan pelajaran di depan kelas. Hal ini menunjukkan adanya keberhasilan tindakan yang diberikan kepada siswa dengan autisme tersebut.

This paper concerns the bifurcation properties of a model of a frequency modulated CO 2 laser in the form of a two-dimensional ordinary differential equation with a parametric periodic excitation. These properties are related to the bifurcation curves organization (structure) in a parameter plane (amplitude, frequency of the modulation). Two basic bifurcation structures appear, one concerning the higher harmonic solutions, the other the subharmonic solutions. Qualitative changes of these structures are considered when a third parameter (pump parameter) is varied.

Untuk itu, kemandirian belajar perlu tumbuh dalam diri mahasiswa agar dapat mengembangkan ide-ide kreatif tanpa bantuan dosen secara penuh. Kemandirian belajar sangat menentukan media maupun model pembelajaran yang dapat diterapkan. Untuk itu, perlu dilakukan analisis profil kemandirian belajar mahasiswa di perguruan tinggi sebagai landasan dalam mempertimbangkan penggunaan model atau media pembelajaran tertentu. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu kuesioner. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kampus E PGSD FIP UNJ selama tahun 2019. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif sederhana dan analisis kualitatif. Hasil penelitian berupa profil kemandirian belajar yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa PGSD FIP UNJ angkatan tahun 2017. Rekomendasi untuk penelitian masa depan diperlukan model pembelajaran yang melibatkan unsur teknologi di dalamnya sehingga dapat meningkatkan kemandirian belajar mahasiswa melalui pola pembelajaran yang mengaktifkan mahasiswa di perguruan tinggi. Kata-kata kunci: kemandirian belajar, mahasiswa, pembelajaran ABSTRACT Students at the university have learning patterns that should be different from students at the school level. For this reason, learning independence needs to grow within students at the university in order to develop creative ideas without the full assistance of lecturers. Learning independence determines the media and instructional models that can be applied. For this reason, it is necessary to analyze the profile of students' learning independence in higher education as a basis for considering the use of certain instructional models or media. Data collection techniques used were questionnaires. The study was conducted at Campus E PGSD FIP UNJ during 2019. Data analysis techniques used simple descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis. The results of the study are in the form of learning independence that is owned by PGSD FIP UNJ students in 2017. Recommendations for future research require learning models that involve elements of technology in order to increase student learning independence through learning patterns that enable students in higher education. Abstract:
The general purpose of this paper is to develop new aspects of bifurcation structures in a 3D parametric space. Identification of generic bifurcation structures in former studies was based on the arrangement of bifurcation curves in the parameter plane. So by analogy to such studies, we define the bifurcation surface in 3D parameter space as the main feature of the said generic structures. The implementation of this idea is made on the permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) whose speed is regulated with a field-oriented control (FOC). Sufficient conditions are given for the existence of three main bifurcations: limit point (LP), Hopf (H) and Bogdanov–Takens (BT). Starting from bifurcation curves traced in a parameter plane and changing a third parameter, a qualitative bifurcation surface is constructed in a 3D parametric space. This led to underline the increasing complexity of the bifurcation structures when dealing with more than two parameters. This study put into evidence not only the complex behavior of PMSM, but stands as a starting point for a new formalism on the bifurcation structures in a 3D parametric space.

Abstract:
In this paper, a mathematical model is developed to qualitatively simulate the progressive time-evolution of a blast from a simple firework. Estimates are made for the blast radius that one can expect for a given amount of detonation energy and pyrotechnic display material. The model balances the released energy from the initial blast pulse with the subsequent kinetic energy and then computes the trajectory of the material under the influence of the drag from the surrounding air, gravity and possible buoyancy. Under certain simplifying assumptions, the model can be solved for analytically. The solution serves as a guide to identifying key parameters that control the evolving blast envelope. Three-dimensional examples are given.

The aging population is a phenomenon that will occur in 2020-2060 due to a decrease in the number of births and an increase in life expectancy. Jakarta as the capital city of Indonesia is predicted to have an increase in the elderly population from 8.47% (2015) to 21.79% (2045). This leads to speculation that senior- friendly housing complexes will emerge in the next 20-30 years. Ichariba Chode Park is designed to keep Elderly active and productive, so they can enjoy retirement with Independence. Because upon entering senior years, people experience a decrease in physical abilities. It may lead to isolation, even loneliness from the surrounding communities. The data collection method is both Qualitative & Quantitative Observation of Longevity-related Documentaries and Journal. Data Procession Method based on Problem Seeking: An Architectural Programming Primer then designed into form With Parametric Design Method; As a result, Ichariba Chode Park emerges as a Leisure Park designed with the following stages: 1. Floor plan designed to accommodate Movement for Elderly, 2. Zoning designed to be Intergeneration Friendly, 3. Solid Void of the massing is designed to incorporate Light, Water, and Nature, 4. The facade is designed regarding color, mass composition, and material. In conclusion, within an urban scale Ichariba Chode Park serves as a Leisure Park that promotes dwelling for elderly. Using Data Procession Method, the designer seek Building Function, Site Location, and Program. While using Parametric Design Method helps the designer to apply design parameters into Floor plan, Section Plan, and Facade. Sehingga akan muncul kompleks-kompleks perumahan ramah lansia dalam kurun waktu 20 sampai 30 tahun ke depan. Abstract: This study aims to develop a learning model of Self-Care skills for mentally retarded early age children in North Sulawesi. The research was conducted in five exceptional schools in North Sulawesi which includes 10 teachers and 22 mentally retarded early age children. This study used a qualitative approach while methods of research include research and development (R&D) procedures. This Self-Building learning model were developed in four phases, which are (1) requirements analysis, (2) designing model based on the results of requirements analysis, (3) implementation of the learning model, and (4) assess the effectiveness of learning models in accordance with the teaching process. The evaluation process consist of expert matters validation, which are early age education and mentally retarded children experts, and making revision. Validation was implemented by the teachers of mentally retarded exceptional schools before making a revise, first field trials, second field trials and field tests. The trial results used to revise the product. This research resulted in RPP (Learning Implementation Plan) and a handbook for teachers. Conclusions from the study were: Implementation of the resulting learning model was effective to improve the mastery of skills to take off and put on shoes, socks, a shirt, t-shirt, short, skirt for the mentally retarded early age; The substance of the content and design flexibility of the structure of the model are included in the category of effective and the application of teaching learning model will be able to facilitate the teachers of mentally retarded exceptional School Learning Implementation Plan, carry outa learningand undertake an evaluation of learning. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model pembelajaran keterampilan bina diri untuk keterbelakangan mandiri pada anak usia dini di Sulawesi Utara. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di sekolah luar biasa di Sulawesi Utara dengan melibatkan 10 orang guru dan 22 anak usia dini dengan keterbelakangan mental. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode Research and Development (RnD). Model pembelajaran dilakukan dalam empat asa, yaitu (1) analisis kebutuhan, (2) mendisain model pembelajaran berdasarkan hasil analisis kebutuhan, (3) menerapkan model pembelajaran, dan (4) menilai keefektifan model pembelajaran sesuai dengan proses mengajar. Proses evaluasi berisi validasi meteri oleh ahli, oleh pendidik anak usia dini dan ahli keterbelakangan mental pada anak, dan membuat revisi. Validasi diterapkan oleh guru keterbelakangan mental di sekolah luar biasa sebelum membuat perbaikan, uji coba lapangan pertama, uji coba lapangan kedua, dan uji lapangan. Uji tersebut digunakan untuk memperbaik produk. Penelitian ini menghasilkan RPP (Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran) dan handbook untuk guru. Kesimpulannya dari penelitian ini adalah: penerapan menghasilkan model pembelajaran yang efektif untuk menghasilkan keterampilan dalam melepaskan dan memakai sepatu, kaus kaki, baju, kaus, dan senda untuk anak keterbelakangan mental. The effect of fertilisation with fermented pig slurry on the quantitative and qualitative parameters of two kinds of tomatoes was assessed by means of pot trials. These trials were carried out between the years 2005 and 2008. Each trial involved four treatments, namely (a) control without fertilisation, (b) fertilisation with mineral fertilisers, (c) 50% nutrients in mineral fertilisers and 50% in fermented pig slurry, and (d) fertilisation with fermented pig slurry only. Besides the yield parameters, the following characteristics were monitored: dry matter content, vitamin C content, titratable acidity, nitrogen compounds, nitrates and selected elements (Pb, Cd, As, Zn and Hg) contents. The fertilisation method showed no statistically significant influence on many parameters (titratable acidity, Hg, As, dry matter, vitamin C and nitrates contents). These results showed that anaerobically fermented pig slurry can be a suitable alternative to the use of mineral fertiliser. They also showed that its use as an organic fertiliser did not impair the hygienic quality and safety of the vegetable products grown, as all tomato samples fulfilled the tested heavy metals and nitrates legislation limits. The fertilisation method showed a statistically significant influence on the yield. Diffe-rences occurred between the organic and mineral methods in the case of Cd, and between non-fertilised and organic methods in the case of Zn. The fertilisation method also significantly influenced N-compounds content in tomatoes. A statistically significant influence of the year was found with all parameters except zinc and vitamin C contents. The influence of cultivar was also found, but only in the case of zinc and dry matter contents.

Stochastic modelling of gene regulatory networks provides an indispensable tool for understanding how random events at the molecular level influence cellular functions. A common challenge of stochastic models is to calibrate a large number of model parameters against the experimental data. Another difficulty is to study how the behaviour of a stochastic model depends on its parameters, i.e. whether a change in model parameters can lead to a significant qualitative change in model behaviour (bifurcation). In this paper, tensor-structured parametric analysis (TPA) is developed to address these computational challenges. It is based on recently proposed low-parametric tensor-structured representations of classical matrices and vectors. This approach enables simultaneous computation of the model properties for all parameter values within a parameter space. The TPA is illustrated by studying the parameter estimation, robustness, sensitivity and bifurcation structure in stochastic models of biochemical networks. A Matlab implementation of the TPA is available at http://www.stobifan.org .

Abstrak This study aims to obtain in-depth data and information based on facts and data regarding the family assistance model based on assessment, counseling, home visit and intervention to reconstruct street children's learning motivation organized by Rumah Kita Foundation (eRKa) in Cipinang, DKI Jakarta. This research method is qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection uses field notes, observations, interviews, and documentation. Interviews were conducted with 3 street children, 3 street child parents and 2 street child companions from Rumah Kita Foundation (eRKa) in Cipinang. The results of data processing showed that the implementation of assessment activities, counseling and home visits, as well as interventions, carried out as a model of assistance to the family. Showed good results, namely the emergence of motivation to learn street children so that there is a desire to learn. The conclusion from the results of this study is the process of family assistance based on assessment, counseling and home visits and interventions has been carried out well by facilitators from the Rumah Kita Foundation (eRKa). This family assistance starts after the assistant conducts an assessment to examine the background of street children and their families. The companion can guide the role of parents as primary educators, exemplary examples of worship and obedience to God, good lifestyle, good attitudes and behavior, good relationships with others, and the importance of good education for the future. The counselor also counseled the importance of providing the right motivation, so that the motivation to learn of street children can grow and develop properly. Counseling conducted by eRKa has also helped the learning difficulties of street children. Likewise, home visits and interventions have been carried out well by the facilitator so that optimal learning outcomes can be achieved by street children. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan data dan informasi yang mendalam berdasarkan fakta dan data mengenai model pendampingan keluarga berbasis asesmen, konseling, home visit dan intervensi untuk melakukan rekonstruksi motivasi belajar anak jalanan yang diselenggarakan oleh Yayasan Rumah Kita (eRKa) di Cipinang, DKI Jakarta. Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Pengumpulan data menggunakan catatan lapangan, observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Wawancara dilakukan kepada 3 orang anak jalanan, 3 orang tua anak jalanan dan 2 orang pendamping anak jalanan dari Yayasan Rumah Kita (eRKa) di Cipinang. Hasil pengolahan data menunjukan bahwa implementasi aktivitas asesmen, konseling dan home visit serta intervensi yang dilakukan sebagai model pendampingan terhadap keluarga.menunjukan hasil yang baik, yakni munculnya motivasi belajar anak jalanan sehingga terdapat keinginan untuk belajar. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah proses pendampingan keluarga berbasis asesmen, konseling dan home visit dan intervensi telah dilakukan dengan baik oleh pendamping dari Yayasan Rumah Kita (eRKa). Pendampingan keluarga ini dimulai setelah pendamping melakukan asesmen untuk mencermati latar belakang anak jalanan dan keluarganya. Pendamping telah terbukti mampu memberi arahan tentang peran orang tua sebagai pendidik utama, pemberi contoh teladan tentang ibadah dan ketaatan pada Allah, pola hidup yang baik, sikap dan perilaku yang baik, hubungan pergaulan yang baik dengan sesama, dan pentingnya pendidikan yang baik untuk masa depan mereka. Pendamping juga melakukan konseling tentang pentingnya memberikan motivasi yang baik, sehingga motivasi belajar anak jalanan dapat tumbuh dan berkembang dengan baik. Konseling yang dilakukan eRKa juga telah membantu kesulitan belajar anak-anak jalanan. Demikian pula home visit dan intervensi telah dilakukan dengan baik oleh pendamping sehingga hasil belajar yang optimal dapat dicapai oleh anak-anak jalanan. The study includes parametric analysis of special spatial rod grids called tensegrity plate-like structures. Tensegrity structures consist of only compression and tension components arranged in a system, whose unique mechanical and mathematical properties distinguish them from conventional cable–strut frameworks. Complete analysis of tensegrity structures is a two-stage process. The first stage includes the identification of self-stress states and infinitesimal mechanisms (qualitative analysis). The second stage focuses on the behaviour of tensegrities under external loads (quantitative analysis). In the paper, a qualitative analysis of tensegrity plate-like structures built with modified Quartex modules was conducted. Starting from a single-module structure, more complex cases were sequentially analysed. The different ways of plate support were considered. To carry out a qualitative assessment, a spectral analysis of the truss matrices and singular value decomposition of the compatibility matrix were used. The characteristic features of tensegrity structures were identified. On this basis, the plates were classified into one of the four groups defined in the paper, i.e., ideal tensegrity, “pure” tensegrity and structures with tensegrity features of class 1 or class 2. This classification is important due to different behaviours of the structure under external actions. The qualitative analysis carried out in the paper is the basis for a quantitative analysis.

A framework IPD (Iterative Parametric Design) is proposed to assist the iterative parametric mechanical design process. To effectively find a set of satisfiable values for the design parameters the key is to find good heuristics to adjust or tune the parametric values resulting from previous design iterations. We propose that heuristics can come from two aspects by both qualitative and quantitative reasoning. Qualitative reasoning, based on confluences, provides global control over the feasible directions of variable adjustments, while quantitative reasoning, based on the dependency network and perturbation analysis, can be used to propose actual quantity of local variable adjustments. We used the design of a helical compression spring as an example to illustrate the performance of IPD system. We show that IPD can often find a solution faster than those without guidance of qualitative and quantitative reasoning.

When a compression system becomes unstable, the mode of response depends on the operating and system parameters, such as throttle setting and B parameter. Previous numerical work on the model developed by Moore and Greitzer has provided a limited picture of the parametric effects. Applying bifurcation theory to a single-harmonic version of the model has supplied much more complete information, defining the boundaries of each mode of response in the parameter space. Specifically this is shown in a plot of B versus throttle setting, which compares well with the corresponding map produced experimentally. We stress the importance of the shape of the rotating stall characteristic. The analysis shows the qualitative difference between classic surge and deep surge.

In the paper, we study a dynamic model of interacting populations of the type “predator-two prey”. A detailed parametric analysis of the equilibrium modes arising in the system is carried out. In zones of the bifurcation parameter, where the coexistence of several equilibrium regimes is found, separable surfaces are constructed. Those surfaces are the boundaries of the attraction basins of different equilibria. It is shown that the effect of an external random disturbance can destroy the equilibrium mode of coexistence of three populations and lead to a qualitatively different mode of coexistence. Such qualitative changes lead to the extinction of one or two of the three populations. Using the technique of stochastic sensitivity function and the method of confidence domains, the probabilistic mechanisms of destruction of equilibrium modes are demonstrated. A parametric analysis of the probabilities of extinction of populations for two types is carried out. The range of the bifurcation parameter and the level of noise intensity, that are the most favorable for the coexistence of three populations, are discussed.

Abstract In process industries, closed-loop step and closed-loop relay feedback tests are popularly used for estimating model parameters. In this paper, different methods available in the literature for parameter estimation using conventional techniques and techniques based on relay feedback test are surveyed by reviewing around 152 research articles published during the past three decades. Through a comprehensive survey of available literature, the parameter estimation methods are classified into two broad groups, namely conventional techniques and relay-based parametric estimation techniques. These relay-based techniques are further classified into two subgroups, namely single-input-single-output (SISO) systems and multi-input-multi-output systems (both square and nonsquare), and are revealed in a lucid manner with the help of benchmark examples and case studies. For the above categorized methods, the procedural steps involved in relay-based parametric estimation methods are also presented. To facilitate the readers, comparison tables are included to comprehend the results of different parametric estimation techniques available in the literature. The incorporation of quantitative and qualitative analysis of papers published in various journals in the above area with the help of pie charts and graphs would enable the readers to grasp the overview of the research activity being carried out in the relay feedback domain. At the end, the challenging issues in relay-based parametric estimation methods and the directions for future investigations that can be explored are also highlighted.

Abstract We consider a multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) problem where importance of criteria, and evaluations of alternatives with respect to the criteria, are expressed on a qualitative ordinal scale. Using the extreme-point principle of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), we develop a two-parameter method for obtaining overall ratings of the alternatives when preferences and evaluations are made on an ordinal scale. We assume no parametric setup other than the two parameters that reflect minimum intensities of discriminating among rank positions: one parameter for the alternatives’ ranking and one for the criteria ranking. These parameters are bounded by the ordinal input data, and they imply a universal tie among the alternatives when both parameters are selected to be zero. We describe the model, discuss its theoretical underpinning, and demonstrate its application.

The paper presents a method of selecting a function to outsource for a mechanical engineering enterprise. The method is based on a bi-parametric selection criterion. AbstractThe “sketch” drawn by a human designer represents a shape class of wider variability than can be captured by traditional CAD models; these typically work with parametrizations based on a nearly finished shape. Traditional Qualitative Reasoning is also unable to model this degree of ambiguity in shape. Cognitively, shapes are often represented in terms of an axial model. In defining 2D contours, such an axial representation is called the Medial Axis Transform or MAT. By perturbing the parameters of the MAT—length, link angle, and the node radius—one can define a shape class. Unlike the contour-to-MAT transform, which is well-known to be unstable, the MAT-to-contour process is an integrative process and is very stable. The variation in these parameters can be controlled by defining a suitable discretization over the parameter space. This leads to a broad class of similar shapes from which an optimized shape can be obtained for a given set of criteria. The optimizing criteria may involve the boundary description for each shape; the axial model is only used for generating the shape class. This Qualitative MAT model has been tested in several design optimization contexts, using Genetic Algorithms, and we show results for Automobile contours, IC engine parts, building profiles, etc.

Abstract One of the basic problems in the comparison-based property valuation process is to determine the influence of property attributes on their price differential. Due to the qualitative character of the majority of property attributes as well as to the distributions of both prices and attributes, their effect on the price differential is increasingly often assessed by means of non-parametric statistical methods. As a tool for determining the effect of attributes on prices, many authors propose parametric methods, in particular multiple regression models. The study presents a comparison of the results of property market attribute weight estimation obtained by means of the Spearman rank correlation coefficient with the ceteris paribus adjustment and the multiple regression model based on a set of transactions with built-up land property. In both of the analyzed methods, qualitative variables were modeled with the use of the Osgood semantic differential scale. The results of the analysis show the equivalence of the applied methods. Property attribute weights calculated using the method based on the rank correlation coefficient with the ceteris paribus adjustment and the multiple regression model, both with the same level of relevance, showed almost identical values. This indicates that both parametric and non-parametric methods can be used to estimate weights.

Lowe8 demonstrated a method for automatically segmenting and smoothing image curves by varying degrees. It was intended to remove noise and unnecessary fine detail, aiding subsequent processing such as grouping and matching. An alternative technique is described in this paper that is based on recursively subdividing the curve into alternative sets of sections. Rather than use thresholds on the values of curvature and its derivatives to determine the segmentation and degree of smoothing our technique is driven by three qualitative measures: (1) a criterion for selecting potential breakpoints, (2) a criterion for determining the amount of smoothing for curve sections, (3) a significance measure that determines which sections form the best selection. The advantages of the technique are robustness, scale invariance, and the absence of parameters.

Studies of the use of oscillations for control purposes continue to reveal new practically important properties unique to the oscillatory open and closed loop control laws. The goal of this paper is to enlarge the available set of analytical tools for such studies by introducing a method of analysis of the qualitative changes in the behavior of dynamical systems caused by the zero mean parametric excitations. After summarizing and slightly refining a technique developed previously for the finite dimensional nonlinear systems, we consider an extension of this technique to a class of distributed parameter systems (DPS) governed by semilinear parabolic equations. The technique presented is illustrated by several examples.
