Abstract:
Working With Space: An opportunity to be considerate and reflective as a human being As a visual artist, my work is primarily focused on building site-specific installation works for museums and galleries. This visual site work affords me the opportunity to research, understand, and underline the dynamics of place, highlighting the totality of the function of sculptural elements to each other and within site. Formally and structurally, my interest is in the details, quality of connections, quality of structure, and an understanding of all physical parts to a whole. This work is fueled and influenced by my research of system dynamics, primarily a holistic investigation of ecosystem function and observations of nature with supportive comparative study in architectural theory, urban development, and the psychology of space as it supports this inquiry and excitement for the dynamism of parts to the whole. Within my research, my main interest has been looking at the quality of thriving function, not dysfunction, found in nature, which observes an awareness of its environment and responds accordingly. As a point of reference for art making/installation building, I have been utilizing two themes from distinctive research: structural/physical qualities found in species connections and functional growth relationships in nature. This has included studying, most recently, growth dynamics from plant observation of species in groups and species next to species. How plants negotiate around boundaries and root length and dynamics, have been central to my interest in recent research. Ultimately, this research resonates with my observations on human survival and the plight of human relationships, and fuels the visual large-scale installation pieces. In my artwork, not only does content stem from holistic sustainability interests, but also material and processes are involved in making choices about being considerate and being a part of a global system, some of which are distinctive in the field. One of these methods utilizes paperclay, a construction material of a blended mix of clay and paper that offers unique lightweight and large-scale installation opportunity that can be fired or non-fired. I use either clay found close to the site or a dry EPK. The paper (100% cellulose) is either foraged from place in its natural state (grass or stalks) and boiled, or recycled from old clothes (100% natural fibers), both are beaten to a pulp in a papermaker’s beater called a Hollander beater. The paperclay material, when blended at 70/30 ratio, is strong and offers construction diversity; it can be dipped, sprayed, cast, modeled, or stuccoed. It can also be non-fired and fixed with a white glue or Portland cement to be presented at a variety of hardness densities. Or, of course, fired out, losing the paper percent in weight. Building on site with this mud mixture gives flexibility by allowing the installations to be built, making choices as I go, responding to the space and the sculptural forms responding to each other. Ultimately, the installation also accommodates the viewer. It provides a physical passage to move through the piece to consider the relationships between the forms, and the relationship of the forms to the space, offering the consideration of the sensitivities of all integral parts being of value to the potential whole. Abstract:
This study examined the effectiveness of a logbook and paperclip technique on awareness of the use and content of negative self-talk as well as the motivation to change negative self-talk. Participants (n = 73) completed a questionnaire measuring these variables, and were assigned to either a control, paperclip or logbook group. Participants performed three typical training sessions over a three-week period. The logbook group completed a self-talk logbook after each session whereas the paperclip group carried out a paperclip exercise during each session. Upon completion of the training sessions, the questionnaire was readministered. ANCOVAs revealed no significant differences between the groups for motivation to change and awareness of the content of negative self-talk. However, the logbook group had significantly greater awareness of their use of negative self-talk compared with the control group. A qualitative analysis of the logbook group’s use of negative self-talk provided insights into the situations that prompted negative self-talk, the content of the self-talk, and also the consequences of using negative self-talk. Collectively, the findings offer some support for the use of the logbook technique in the applied setting.

Abstract:
Objective Procedural complication rates associated with tube thoracostomy for pleural decompression is estimated to be between 2 and 25%, with incorrect insertion site being a common problem. We hypothesised that the inferior-most hair follicle in the axillary region would provide an accurate biometric marker to identify the fourth to sixth intercostal space. Methods A prospective cohort of patients requiring computed tomography scan of the chest was recruited from February 2015 to March 2016 at The Alfred Hospital. The inferior-most hair follicle on the patient’s axillary region was tagged with a paperclip, and a radiologist reported this location with reference to the corresponding intercostal spaces. Results Of the 254 enrolled patients, a total of 310 paperclip positions over intercostal spaces were analysed. There were 101 (32.5%) paperclips positioned in the fourth and fifth intercostal spaces with the remainder at the second or third intercostal spaces, and no paperclips placed at the sixth intercostal space or lower. Conclusions This study demonstrated that the inferior-most hair follicle in the axilla corresponded to an area between the second and fifth intercostal spaces. Recognition of this surface anatomy has the potential to eliminate iatrogenic injuries to the diaphragm and sub-diaphragmatic organs, but should not be used as the sole marker due to potential risks from high placement of pleural drains.

Abstract:
The US lagged behind the European powers, Germany, Britain and France, in scientific research and development at the beginning of the 20th century. Why this occurred and how Germany and Britain supported their flourishing scientific research cultures are discussed. The first serious expansion in basic scientific research in the US occurred with the influx of European Jewish scientists fleeing Nazism in the 1930’s. They specifically brought with them knowledge of atomic physics. The influence of Vannevar Bush, who was Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development during World War Two proved crucial for the expansion of civilian research and development after the War, supported by the Federal Government. Also after the War, Operation Paperclip brought German scientists to the US and they had significant influence on developments in aeronautics, rocketry and space exploration.

Abstract:
The paper presents the work of analysis of Automated G-clip Paperclip machine of using Solidworks Simulation and a comparison between results of each analysis in cutting process using design of experiment (DOE) and followed by design verification of simulating the cutting process after design changes. It emphasizes on the analysis of process and additional substation process to overcomes current machining problem. The current problem is occurred at the cutting station, which lead to poor quality product. There is two-design stage, which is preliminary of design of experiments conducted in order to fulfill the design validity and design verification. Application of longitudinal cyclic transfer system in feeding with pre-straightener substation is implied for comprehensive feeding of the wire with 1.3 mm diameter in 2 second. Forming dies with stepper motor controller give the precise positioning and repeatability of movement since good stepper motors have an accuracy between 3 5% of a step and this error is non-cumulative from one step to the next. By incorporating the new station in simulation procedure for this machine, it shows that the product quality is improved.

Abstract:
Smartphones have become indispensable computational tools. However, some tasks can be difficult to perform on a smartphone because these devices have small displays. Here, we explore methods for augmenting the display of a smartphone, or other PDA, using interactive paper. Specifically, we present a prototype interface that enables a user to interactively interrogate technical drawings using an Anoto-based smartpen and a PDA. Our software system, called PaperCAD, enables users to query geometric information from CAD drawings printed on Anoto dot-patterned paper. For example, the user can measure a distance by drawing a dimension arrow. The system provides output to the user via a smartpen’s audio speaker and the dynamic video display of a PDA. The user can select either verbose or concise audio feedback, and the PDA displays a video image of the portion of the drawing near the pen tip. The project entails advances in the interpretation of pen input, such as a method that uses contextual information to interpret ambiguous dimensions and a technique that uses a hidden Markov model to correct interpretation errors in handwritten equations. Results of a user study suggest that our user interface design and interpretation techniques are effective and that users are highly satisfied with the system.

Abstract:
Although perceptual learning of simple visual features has been studied extensively and intensively for many years, we still know little about the mechanisms of perceptual learning of complex object recognition. In a series of seven experiments, human perceptual learning in discrimination of in-depth orientation of face view was studied using psychophysical methods. We trained subjects to discriminate face orientations around a face view (i.e., 30°) over eight daily sessions, which resulted in a significant improvement in sensitivity to the face view orientation. This improved sensitivity was highly specific to the trained orientation and persisted up to 6 mo. Different from perceptual learning of simple visual features, this orientation-specific learning effect could completely transfer across changes in face size, visual field, and face identity. A complete transfer also occurred between two partial face images that were mutually exclusive but constituted a complete face. However, the transfer of the learning effect between upright and inverted faces and between a face and a paperclip object was very weak. These results shed light on the mechanisms of the perceptual learning of face view discrimination. They suggest that the visual system had learned how to compute face orientation from face configural information more accurately and that a large amount of plastic changes took place at a level of higher visual processing where size-, location-, and identity-invariant face views are represented.

Abstract:
This article provides theoretical and methodological foundation for linguistic narratology of ludic literaryforms. This new area of research is aimed to (i) characterize ludic models of fictional narrative from a linguisticperspective; (ii) ascertain the specificity of ludic techniques in contemporary literary narratives; (iii) define a rangeof linguistic means producing ludic effects with regard to ludic text- and sense-making in literary text. The paperclams that ludic literary forms are the result of various fictional games. The research views ludic literary formswithin the bounds of the intentional, immanent, and receptive perspectives of literary text study. In termsof the intentional viewpoint, ludic literary forms are considered as deconventionalized literary structures whichoriginate due to breaking-up conventional genre-bound narrative patterns with further elaboration of new onesthrough their numerous transformations. According to the immanent approach, ludic literary forms are distinguishedby structural and semantic emergency. From the receptive standpoint, such literary forms are defined by the nonprototypicalinterpretation, which results in the reconstruction of new, emergent senses and inferences. In Coetzee'snovels, ludic literary forms are created due to the manifestation of psychofictional, metafictional, and autofictionalgames. Narrative gaming reveals itself via two facets – text- and sense-making. Accordingly, in Coetzee's fictionthree types of ludic literary forms were singled out: psychonarrative, metafictional, and autofictional. The paperperforms a linguistic and poetic analysis of such literary forms in terms of the "nodal points" technique andwith reference to a system of linguistic signals of psychofictional, metafictional, and autofictional games.

Abstract:
The basic purpose of this research was to explore certain dimensions of creative potential in university students who assessed their scholastic skills using self-ratings of the symptoms of learning disabilities. The learning disabled (LD; n = 47) group revealed lower levels of self-reported scholastic skills, whereas the non–learning disabled (NLD; n = 52) group showed higher levels. Both female and male undergraduate students of Maria Curie-Sklodowska University (MCSU), who majored in special education, participated in the study. The creative potentials of the LD and NLD groups of MCSU students were compared. The creative potential was investigated in two ways. First, the subjects were asked to think of as many uses as they could for a paperclip and a pencil (Alternative Uses Task by Guilford). Second, they were asked to complete a Creative Behavior Questionnaire (KANH) by Popek. Furthermore, the subjects were asked to complete a Rating Scale for Intensity of LD Symptoms. Thus, they were requested to self-report the intensity of their LD symptoms. It was found that nonconformity and heuristic behavior were the factors that differentiated the university students with self-reported LD from their peers in the NLD group. In general, taking into consideration the scores that were obtained in the KANH, the LD group obtained a lower level of creative potential, compared with the NLD group. The effects of gender, self-reported LD, and instrument selection on our research outcomes are also discussed.

Abstract:
Social protection has long been a relevant subject of scientific debate. Its development is interrelated with the study of fiscal factors (collection of social contributions), establishment of major social protection vectors, and confirmation of hypotheses about the link between social protection policy and the resulting socio-economic indicators. The purpose of the paper is to study the impact of public funding of social protectionon social indicatorsusing the example of Eurozone countries. To this end, a number of economic and mathematical methods of analysis were applied to process panel data of seventeen countries for the last fifteen years, including the calculation of the relative rate of variation, regression dependence statistics, and cluster analysis. The study established the irrelevance between the scope of the fundingof spending on social protection and social contributions (coefficient of determination R2=0.255). As illustrated, social indicators are determined not only by the amount of funding of social spending, but also by the structure of the social protection system, in particular, the focus on assistance to families with children and disability compensation (coefficient of determination R2>0.3). The general level of public funding for social spending items results in the 69% income inequality index andis behind 58% of non-economic parameters affecting life quality. The information outlined in the papercan serve as a basis for the formation of social and budgetary policy, as well as the revision of the structure and scope of social protection funding toensure an efficient impact on the quality of life of the population.

Abstract:
Objectives. This study is aimed at identifying the specifics of managing current assets in construction enterprises and developing a set of practical measures that can enhance the efficiency of their use.Method. In the course of the study, a system approach was taken, comparative and functional-cost analysis methods.Result. It is shownthatthe specifics of current assetformation in construction industry is to be taken into account when developing a conceptual basis for managinga construction enterprise. Methodological approaches to the estimation of current assets are described, the most effective of which facilitate the optimal choice of sources, forms and volume of attracting current assets into construction industry. A set of practical measures for organizing a system of current asset management in construction enterprises is proposed. These measures are expected to provide for the rational formation and use of all the constituent components of this system.Conclusion. The methodological approaches to the estimation of current assets, criteria for making managerial decisions, management strategy development stage sand methodological provisions for the organisation of the management of current assets presented in this papercan be used as a methodological basis for managing the working assets of a construction enterprise, thuscontributing to improved management efficiency and creating conditions for sustainable functionality. Every managerial decisionrelated to determining the level of financial assets, accounts receivable and inventories should be considered from the standpoint of both the profitability of these assets and the optimal structure of current assets, thus requiring respective management levers. The implementation of the basic requirements for the management of current assets necessitates the application of anti-risk expert-analytical procedures, including those related to the functioning of the corporate information management system.

Abstract:
The ease with which modern plastics can be injection molded makes them very suitable for the production of many different products and, today, plastics are often used as substitutes for metal. Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most widely used thermoplastics globally since it is very useful, cost-effective and flexible for molding. However, the amount of harm to the environment caused by plastic waste has become phenomenal and the recycling of plastics has become a serious aspect of environmental protection. PP, as the most commonly used plastic material, was selected for use in this study. It has a melt flow index of 15 g/min and its recyclability, fluidity, and physical properties, as well as manufacturing conditions, were explored in relation to the number of times the material could be recycled (TR). A cavity pressure sensor was used to measure the viscosity index of the recycled plastic after multiple cycles of plasticizing and injection, part molding, scrap-recycling, and crushing. A paperclip-shaped test specimen was used to determine PP fluidity and crystallinity of specimens with different TRs. Tensile tests were used to detect differences in the tensile strength between specimens made from Raw-PP and recycled PP. The results showed that PP that had been recycled several times had a higher melt flow index, material fluidity, melting peak area, crystallinity, crystallization rate, and crystallization temperature. Repeated injection and recycling of the material had reduced the length of the molecular chains and broadened the molecular weight distribution. This improved the fluidity and increased crystallinity. The increase in fluidity made cavity filling easier, reducing the cavity pressure as well as the viscosity index. The results of this study showed that the recycling of the PP could improve the physical properties of the products to a degree and also went some way to further the benefits of a circular economy. The recycling of injection-molded PP material can be added to renewable energy technologies and used in environmental impact assessment.
