Abstract:
The paper presents the history and development of conservation of books, graphics and paper objects in Warsaw Poland, both in practical approach as well as in the process of teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts. The theoretical assumptions are followed by a review of chemical methods used today, but also abandoned ones. There were two turning points in the history of conservation in Warsaw: beginning co-operation with professional chemists at the Academy and developing the system of microbiological controls at the National Library. A short description of the most important conservation projects is included: Acid Paper and Energy Efficiency of Museums and Libraries.

Abstract:
This research announcement outlines the fundamentals, initial reflections, objectives, and methodology of a research project developed jointly by the University of West Attica, Greece, and the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It presents the variability of the concept of value in the context of the preservation of cultural assets, the diversity of the terminology and the scarcity of specific discussions in the area of paper conservation. It outlines the conceptual contribution based on the relationship between values, historical evidence, and layers of data in cultural objects, as well as on the impact of conservation procedures on their interconnections. Finally, this article supports both the societal and material approach to decision-making in preservation and conservation through the interdisciplinary investigation of paper-based objects to understand them as complex artefacts.

Abstract:
The rate of deterioration of printed paper has grown to a point where conventional conservation methods can no longer cope with either the volume or the cost. In response to this problem, several mass conservation methods have been developed: treatment with diethylzinc, methoxy magnesium methyl carbonate, magnesium oxide, ammonia, cyclohexylamine, and ethanolamine; polymerization by ethyl acrylate; and strengthening with cellulose. Some processes are still at the pilot stage. Methods vary in complexity, and some require very large plants. A comparison of them shows that no process meets all the ideal criteria. Disadvantages include fire or health hazards, and detrimental effects on ink or leather. Some methods deacidify the paper without reinforcing it. Treatment varies between 5 and 72 hours, and the cost ranges from 30 cents a book to $15, but the latter partly depends on the state of development of the process.

Abstract:
The consumption of copy or print paper has been rapidly increasing. There are several aspects to be considered for environmental conservation, for example, resource of woods, energy consumption and paper trash in office, etc. We have been developing the toner removal system from copied paper since 1993. We have improved such as machine service life, toner removal mechanism, toner removal quality, special paper and running cost, etc. We have developed a commercial prototype. The system proved that a toner removal system permits reuse of a copied paper multiple times so that the system is effective for environment conservation.

Abstract:
Drawing on a collaborative ethnographic study of the 2016 International Union for the Conservation of Nature World Conservation Congress (WCC), we analyze how Indigenous peoples and local community (IPLC) rights advocates have used a rights-based approach (RBA) to advance long-standing struggles to secure local communities' land and resource rights and advance governing authority in biodiversity conservation. The RBA has allowed IPLC advocates to draw legitimacy from the United Nations system—from its declarations to its special rapporteurs—and to build transnational strategic alliances in ways they could not with participatory discourses. Using it, they have brought attention to biodiversity as a basic human right and to the struggle to use, access, and own it as a human rights struggle. In this article, we show how the 2016 WCC provided a platform for building and reinforcing these alliances, advancing diverse procedural and substantive rights, redefining key principles and standards for a rights-based conservation approach, and leveraging international support for enforcement mechanisms on-the-ground. We argue that, as advocates staked out physical and discursive space at the venue, they secured the authority to shape conservation politics, shifting the terrain of struggle between strict conservationists and community activists and creating new conditions of possibility for advancing the human rights agenda in international conservation politics. Nonetheless, while RBAs have been politically successful at reconfiguring global discourse, numerous obstacles remain in translating that progress to secure human rights to resources "on the ground", and it is vital that the international conservation community finance the implementation of RBA in specific locales, demand that nation states create monitoring and grievance systems, and decolonize the ways in which they interact with IPLCs. Finally, we reflect on the value of the Collaborative Event Ethnography methodology, with its emphasis on capturing the mundane, meaningful and processual aspects of policymaking, in illuminating the on-going labor entailed in bringing together and aligning the disparate elements in dynamic assemblages. Keywords: Human rights, global conservation governance, collaborative event ethnography, Indigenous peoples
