Abstract:

Résumé L'auteur présente une synthèse des travaux théoriques et cliniques de Gisela Pankow concernant la psychose. La lecture des travaux de cette psychanalyste a un caractère fascinant pour diverses raisons : elle fournit de nombreux cas cliniques détaillés et vivants, elle prend en analyse des patients pour lesquels d'autres méthodes de traitement ont échoué. Mais cet aspect spectaculaire risque de faire passer le lecteur à côté de l'essentiel de l'oeuvre qui est une théorisation et une approche, pratique originales concernant la psychose. Le résumé des thèses de Pankow s'avère d'autant plus nécessaire que cette dernière ne prend pas toujours le temps de présenter ses travaux de façon claire et organisée. Les principaux apports de Pankow sont les suivants : l'utilisation de techniques non traditionnelles (face à face, dessins, modelages, contacts avec la famille) dans le traitement du psychotique, la redéfinition de l'image du corps avec une double fonction de forme et de contenu, le développement de la technique des greffes de transfert, par opposition au transfert classique, la redéfinition du concept de forclusion (Lacan) en tant que mécanisme de défense impliquant directement l'image du corps. Le présent texte peut servir d'introduction à la lecture des travaux de Pankow en mettant quelque peu les idées en ordre.

During the thermal combustion processes of carbon-enriched organic compounds, emission of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons into ambient air occurs. Previous studies of atmospheric distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons showed low correlation between the experimental values and Junge-Pankow theoretical adsorption model, suggesting that other approaches should be used to describe the partitioning phenomena. The paper evaluates the applicability of multivariate piece-wise-linear M5? model-tree models to the problem of gas-particle partitioning. Experimental values of particle-associated fraction, obtained for 129 ambient air samples collected at 24 background, urban and industrial sites, were compared to the prediction results obtained using M5? and the Junge-Pankow model. The M5? approach proposed and models learned are able to achieve good correlation (correlation coefficient >0.9) for some low-molecular-weight compounds, when the target is to predict the concentration of gas phase based on the particle-associated phase. When converted to particle-bound fraction values, the results, for selected compounds, are superior to those obtained by Junge-Pankow model by several orders of magnitude, in terms of the prediction error.

AbstractIn the August 1997 issue of Environmental Science&Technology (ES&T), PANKOW and co-workers at the Oregon Graduate Institute reported that the addition of ammonia-containing additives to cigarette tobacco increased the amount of unprotonated nicotine in cigarette mainstream smoke (MSS) and thus increased the bioavailability of nicotine to the smoker. Articles about PANKOW's work also appeared in other publications along with allegations that ammonia-containing additives are used to manipulate nicotine deliveries. However, initial review of PANKOW's research and that reported on environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) in an earlier paper showed that potentially serious issues existed with PANKOW's experimental data and conclusions. Consequently, a critical assessment of PANKOW's research and the underlying theories of gas/particle partitioning was undertaken. This assessment confirmed that PANKOW and his co-workers made a number of errors not only in their determinations of the gas/particle partitioning coefficients for nicotine in MSS and ETS but also in the interpretations of the data. During the preparation of this assessment, data from other researchers became public. These data showed that there was no correlation between tobacco ammonia (including residual ammonia from the use of ammonia-containing additives) and MSS ammonia deliveries and MSS smoke pH, and that the amount of unprotonated nicotine in the undiluted MSS of a full flavor (FF) American filter cigarette was less than 0.1%. These new data fully substantiated the findings of this assessment, and it can be safely concluded that the assertions made by PANKOW and his co-workers were incorrect. However, this assessment also showed that there is significant merit in the application of PANKOW's theory of absorptive partitioning for the estimation of the gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile components in MSS and ETS. Application of PANKOW's theory along with data from recent tobacco related conferences has allowed estimation of the gas/particle partition coefficient for nicotine in cigarette MSS and also has allowed approximation of values for the activity coefficient of nicotine in mainstream particulate matter.

Zudem konnten erste Erfahrungen gemacht werden, auf welchen Gebieten Widerstände und Schwierigkeiten bei der Ermittlung der eigenen CO2-Bilanz entstehen.

Abstract:

The main objectives of the research were to estimate the relationship between the gas-particle partition coefficient, Kp, and the octanol-air partition coefficient, KOA, of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHs, and polychlorinated biphenyls, PCBs, at industrial and urban sites in the Vojvodina region, to compare the obtained slopes and intercepts of the log vs. log KOA relations with the results of regression analyses reported in previous studies and to assess the consistency between the particle-bound fractions predicted by the KOA absorption model and the results obtained within field measurements. Fairly good log KP - log KOA correlations, with an average value of the correlation coefficients of 0.70, indicate that the partition coefficient KOA can be used as a prediction parameter of the gas-particle partitioning processes for both classes of compounds. The results of modelling the atmospheric distribution of PAHs using the KOA absorption model showed inconsistencies between the measured and predicted values of the particle-bound fraction, ?, of 1-2 orders of magnitude, while significantly higher discrepancies for PAHs in the Nap-Ace range were found. A similar variability of the measured/modelled ? values was obtained using the Junge-Pankow adsorption model, indicating the presence of particles enriched with PAHs. The conducted research showed that the KOA-based approach was less suitable for predicting the gas-particle partitioning of PCBs in urban and industrial sites, compared to the Junge-Pankow model.

Geschichte, Sozialstruktur und Veränderungen (des Straßenbilds, der Nachbarschaften etc.) im Großbezirk Pankow werden als Ausdruck, aber auch als Bedingung rechter Hegemoniebestrebungen erkennbar. Im Feld der rechten Bewegungen und Parteien hat sich die AfD als maßgeblicher Akteur etabliert. Anhand von Vignetten aus Behandlungen mit Patienten, die an psychotischen Störungen leiden, wird die Frage erörtert, welche Rolle Abstand in der Beziehung zwischen Analysanden und Analytikerin spielt. Dabei kommt ausgehend von initial fusionären Übertragungsbeziehungen dem Bezug zum Körper eine besondere Bedeutung zu, da er den Ausgangspunkt darstellt, von dem aus ein erster Abstand in der Beziehung wahrgenommen und etabliert werden kann. Die Folgen für die Behandlungstechnik werden erörtert. Besonders die Bedeutung bzw. Störungen des unbewussten Körperbildes (Pankow, Sami-Ali) werden untersucht und es wird gezeigt, dass über die Wiederherstellung eines abgegrenzten Körperbildes ein erster Abstand entsteht, der das Erleben von Getrenntheit und Unterschiedlichkeit ermöglicht. Dies bildet die Voraussetzung für eine Beziehung zum lebendigen Anderen sowie für Lernen durch Erfahrung und wirkt so der Psychose entgegen.

Dieser Beitrag stellt ein neu entwickeltes Instrument zur Bewertung der Mobilität vor: den Mobilitätsindex. Ausgehend von der Annahme, dass Mobilität im Sinne der Bewegungsmöglichkeiten die Ursache für Verkehr ist, untersucht er, wie die tatsächlichen Möglichkeiten der Menschen – unabhängig vom entstandenen Verkehr – ausgestaltet sind. Hierfür wird zunächst ein theoretisches Modell von Mobilität entworfen, bevor im Anschluss Indikatoren aus der Wissenschaft definiert werden, welche die menschliche Mobilität messbar machen. Diese Indikatoren werden in einem Indexmodell zusammengeführt und können am Ende die Mobilität in Untersuchungsräumen anhand eines Indexwerts nachvollziehbar machen. Gezeigt wird dieses Vorgehen am Beispiel des Berliner Bezirks Pankow. Hier wird deutlich, welche neuen Perspektiven ein Mobilitätsindex für Politik und Planung bietet, indem er die Möglichkeiten der Menschen unabhängig vom Verkehr darstellen kann. Dies ist eine zentrale Voraussetzung für eine evidenzbasierte Mobilitätsplanung, deren Ziel es ist, die Ursachen für den Verkehr zielorientiert zu verändern.

Zondek-Aschheim's biological response is one of the brilliant chapters of endocrinology's advances over the past ten years. At the present moment, thanks to this reaction, we are able to almost accurately establish the diagnosis of pregnancy even in those early periods when there is still no possibility of determining such by other research methods. In a short period of time (since 1927), this reaction has become widespread, due to the minimum percentage of errors with it. So, based on the questionnaire material Deut. m. Woch. (No. 51, 1929), Wagner received 451 positive answers out of 459 cases, Hornung in 98% of cases, Pankow in 100% of cases, Martins out of 74 cases. 73 positive answers, Kehrer in 100% of cases. According to our personal data, in 98% of cases we got a positive (correct) answer. The very authors of this reaction, Zondek and Aschheim, speak of the minimum percentage of errors bordering on zero.

Abstract:

Freight tram systems can potentially reduce commercial road vehicle use and, consequently, reduce congestion, accidents, air pollution, noise levels, and road maintenance costs. This paper explores the new application for the urban rail system as a sustainable solution for urban freight distribution. A significant problem in using rail for urban freight is determining the most efficient tram route, in terms of related costs and accessibility for the distribution centers and end-users. The study takes a systematic approach, based on identifying scenarios, existing tramlines, traveled distances, and time durations, and appraises the scheme through an energy consumption analysis to assess a hypothetical freight tram scheme. In a German case study in Berlin, a freight tram system delivered the goods of five delivery companies from their logistics hubs in the Pankow district to a micro depot instead of to the trucks. Three different path scenarios from logistics hubs to the micro depot were developed, to make comparisons based on energy consumption. Freight tram implementation in Berlin (compared to the current situation) resulted in a reduction of more than 7 tons of CO2 emissions per year, and 60 road-vehicle-kilometers per day, in exchange for 275 MJ of daily electric consumption.

Abstract. Three groups of aliphatic carbonyl compounds, the n-alkanals (C8–C20), n-alkan-2-ones (C8–C26), and n-alkan-3-ones (C8–C19), were measured in both particulate and vapour phases in air samples collected in London from January to April 2017. Four sites were sampled including two rooftop background sites, one ground-level urban background site, and a street canyon location on Marylebone Road in central London. The n-alkanals showed the highest concentrations, followed by the n-alkan-2-ones and the n-alkan-3-ones, the latter having appreciably lower concentrations. It seems likely that all compound groups have both primary and secondary sources and these are considered in light of published laboratory work on the oxidation products of high-molecular-weight n-alkanes. All compound groups show a relatively low correlation with black carbon and NOx in the background air of London, but in street canyon air heavily impacted by vehicle emissions, stronger correlations emerge, especially for the n-alkanals. It appears that vehicle exhaust is likely to be a major contributor for concentrations of the n-alkanals, whereas it is a much smaller contributor to the n-alkan-2-ones and n-alkan-3-ones. Other primary sources such as cooking or wood burning may be contributors for the ketones but were not directly evaluated. It seems likely that there is also a significant contribution from the photo-oxidation of n-alkanes and this would be consistent with the much higher abundance of n-alkan-2-ones relative to n-alkan-3-ones if the formation mechanism were through the oxidation of condensed-phase alkanes. Vapour–particle partitioning fitted the Pankow model well for the n-alkan-2-ones but less well for the other compound groups, although somewhat stronger relationships were seen at the Marylebone Road site than at the background sites. The former observation gives support to the n-alkane-2-ones being a predominantly secondary product, whereas primary sources of the other groups are more prominent.

Abstract. Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are of considerable concern due to their well-recognized toxicity and their potential to bioaccumulate and engage in long-range transport. These compounds are semi-volatile and, therefore, create a partition between vapour and condensed phases in the atmosphere, while both phases can undergo chemical reactions. This work describes the extension of the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) modelling system to POPs with a focus on establishing an adaptable framework that accounts for gaseous chemistry, heterogeneous reactions, and gas-particle partitioning (GPP). The effect of GPP is assessed by implementing a set of independent parameterizations within the CMAQ aerosol module, including the Junge–Pankow (JP) adsorption model, the Harner–Bidleman (HB) organic matter (OM) absorption model, and the dual Dachs–Eisenreich (DE) black carbon (BC) adsorption and OM absorption model. Use of these descriptors in a modified version of CMAQ for benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) results in different fate and transport patterns as demonstrated by regional-scale simulations performed for a European domain during 2006. The dual DE model predicted 24.1 % higher average domain concentrations compared to the HB model, which was in turn predicting 119.2 % higher levels compared to the baseline JP model. Evaluation with measurements from the European Monitoring and Evaluation Programme (EMEP) reveals the capability of the more extensive DE model to better capture the ambient levels and seasonal behaviour of BaP. It is found that the heterogeneous reaction of BaP with O3 may decrease its atmospheric lifetime by 25.2 % (domain and annual average) and near-ground concentrations by 18.8 %. Marginally better model performance was found for one of the six EMEP stations (Košetice) when heterogeneous BaP reactivity was included. Further analysis shows that, for the rest of the EMEP locations, the model continues to underestimate BaP levels, an observation that can be attributed to low emission estimates for such remote areas. These findings suggest that, when modelling the fate and transport of organic pollutants on large spatio-temporal scales, the selection and parameterization of GPP can be as important as degradation (reactivity).

Abstract. Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation in the atmosphere is currently often modeled using a multiple lumped "two-product" (N·2p) approach. The N·2p approach neglects: 1) variation of activity coefficient (ζi) values and mean molecular weight MW in the particulate matter (PM) phase; 2) water uptake into the PM; and 3) the possibility of phase separation in the PM. This study considers these effects by adopting an (N·2p)ζpMW,ζ approach (θ is a phase index). Specific chemical structures are assigned to 25 lumped SOA compounds and to 15 representative primary organic aerosol (POA) compounds to allow calculation of ζi and MW values. The SOA structure assignments are based on chamber-derived 2p gas/particle partition coefficient values coupled with known effects of structure on vapor pressure pL,io (atm). To facilitate adoption of the (N·2p)ζpMW,θ approach in large-scale models, this study also develops CP-Wilson.1 (Chang-Pankow-Wilson.1), a group-contribution ζi-prediction method that is more computationally economical than the UNIFAC model of Fredenslund et al. (1975). Group parameter values required by CP-Wilson.1 are obtained by fitting ζi values to predictions from UNIFAC. The (N·2p)ζpMW,θ approach is applied (using CP-Wilson.1) to several real α-pinene/O3 chamber cases for high reacted hydrocarbon levels (ΔHC≈400 to 1000 μg m−3) when relative humidity (RH) ≈50%. Good agreement between the chamber and predicted results is obtained using both the (N·2p)ζpMW,θ and N·2p approaches, indicating relatively small water effects under these conditions. However, for a hypothetical α-pinene/O3 case at ΔHC=30 μg m−3 and RH=50%, the (N·2p)ζpMW,θ approach predicts that water uptake will lead to an organic PM level that is more double that predicted by the N·2p approach. Adoption of the (N·2p)ζpMW,θ approach using reasonable lumped structures for SOA and POA compounds is recommended for ambient PM modeling.

Résumé Deux expériences ont été réalisées sur un site expérimental contrôlé de dimensions décamétriques reconstituant un aquifère alluvial. L’originalité de ce travail est basée sur le fait que cette plate-forme expérimentale permet de rendre compte du rôle de la frange capillaire dans les phénomènes de transfert, ce qui est difficilement accessible sur des systèmes réduits de laboratoire ou dans les investigations sur site réel. L’objectif principal est l’évaluation quantitative des mécanismes de transfert de Composés Organiques Volatils (COV) depuis la zone non saturée vers la nappe dans le cas d’une source de pollution localisée en zone non saturée. Le cas du transport du trichloroéthylène (TCE) a été abordé où une analyse comparative du transfert du TCE depuis la zone non saturée vers la nappe via la frange capillaire est présentée en étudiant les deux mécanismes : dispersion et dissolution. Dans la première expérience, la dispersion passive de la pollution par les vapeurs depuis la zone non saturée vers la nappe via la frange capillaire est étudiée. Dans la seconde expérience, l’impact sur la pollution de la nappe du lessivage des vapeurs par une pluie contrôlée est quantifié. Les résultats montrent que la dispersion passive des vapeurs peut causer une pollution significative de l’eau de la nappe, et ce, malgré la lenteur du processus de diffusion dans la partie inférieure de la frange capillaire suffisamment saturée en eau. Le lessivage des vapeurs par la pluie provoque une pollution de nappe plus importante et plus étendue. La quantification des flux de pollution partant de la zone non saturée vers la nappe a été réalisée dans la première expérience en se servant de la méthode de JOHNSON et PANKOW (1992), et du code de calcul (Hydrus) dans la seconde expérience. Les résultats expérimentaux et analytiques mettent en évidence, d’une part, le rôle d’écran joué par la frange capillaire contre le transfert de la pollution vers la nappe, et d’autre part, l’augmentation significative du degré et de l’étendue de la pollution de la nappe en cas de lessivage des vapeurs par les eaux de pluie.

Purpose A whole series of food scandals indicates that misdirected incentives continue to be a source of food risks. Lacking market transparency and the opportunistic use of seemingly profitable opportunities to break the rules cause negative externalities and failure of markets. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of mandatory transparency schemes on food businesses’ behavioural drivers and thus on compliance. Design/methodology/approach The authors use an adopted analytical framework developed by Hirschauer et al. (2012) as the theoretical background. The authors provide an empirical analysis of the effects of a disclosure system on businesses’ behavioural drivers in three urban parts of the German capital Berlin. The authors conducted a pen-and-paper survey among food businesses to collect data and used a generalized ordered logit regression model to analyse them. Findings The results show that the higher the businesses assess the possible negative effects of a negative smiley on sales, the higher the probability of compliance. Considering the immaterial behavioural drivers (protective factors) the authors find the statistical significant influence of a feeling of embarrassment in case of disclosure and the feeling of a fair evaluation on compliance. Thus, the study supports the expectation that disclosure policies affect behavioural drivers and have the potential to steer food businesses’ compliance. Practical implications The study supports the expectation that hygiene controls’ disclosure positively affects food businesses’ compliance. These findings should be taken into consideration in the ongoing discussion about disclosure. Nowadays, there is no mandatory transparency in Germany due to a strong opposition from businesses and their lobbying groups. Originality/value The authors conducted a pen-and-paper survey among food businesses in three urban districts of the German capital Berlin, namely, Pankow, Lichtenberg and Marzahn-Hellersdorf in 2014. The food authorities in these districts were the only ones in Germany that had introduced and run a mandatory disclosure system (smiley-system) for food businesses. The results of the inspections were published on the authorities’ homepages in the internet, and were displayed in businesses. Thus the data mirror the unique experiences of the only German food businesses that participated in a mandatory transparency scheme.
