Abstract:
This paper proposes a new typology of educational aspirations, expectations and achievement. This typology is derived from combinations of aspirations, expectations and achievement, creating eight possible combinations of aligned and irregular profiles. To devise this new typology, data from the Longitudinal Study of Young People in England (LSYPE) panel survey and matching administrative data from the National Pupil Database (NPD) was utilised. These data were collected in 2004 from a sample of 15,770 young people (YP) aged 13 to 14 attending 647 different schools in England. This study demonstrates that aspirations, expectations and achievement do converge amongst some students; but for most young people they do not always intersect. Many young people succeed academically, but without necessarily developing high aspirations or high expectations. For one out of every five young people, high aspirations and high expectations do not lead to academic achievement. The findings in this paper provide a distinct analytical framework for further research and policy development in this area.

Abstract:
SummaryAfter a short, general review of medieval shrine types, a particular category is defined and examined: ‘tomb-shrines’: which were a form of shrine-base with round, window-like openings, constructed over the pre-existing grave of a saint. The archaeological and documentary evidence (including evidence from drawings and painted glass) for tomb-shrines is examined, and the few extant structures are described and discussed. In the light of these findings an important fragment of thirteenth-century Purbeck work from Winchester Cathedral is reassessed: it is argued that it derived from the tomb-of St Swithun. This stood on the site of the saint's original grave until the Reformation, and was a focus of veneration that was as important as the main reliquary behind the high altar within the cathedral itself.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a new airport typology that might arise from the expansion of airports with dominant low cost carrier traffic. In the first part of the paper, the typologies and different airport categorizations are reviewed with examples of current taxonomies used by principal international organizations. However, none of the current airport taxonomies takes into account low cost (LCC) carriers and cannot be used to create an airport market strategy with LCC operation. The paper highlights the characteristic of LCC features, the differences between the LCC airlines, and the characteristics of secondary – low cost airports. Finally, the paper proposes a new taxonomy of airports with low cost operations based on the airport data analysis and expert panel elucidation. For identification of airports with a high share of low cost carriers, Eurocontrol 2013 data on airline types and movements were used. The novel classification of low cost airports enables management to design marketing strategies to respond to LCC dominance and its implications. The main contribution of this research is to provide a novel classification for low cost airports which is relatively new phenomenon comparing with the problems of full service carriers dominance at large airports.

Abstract:
This study examined the effect of enhanced electronic access to information on patterns of scholarly communication. Using a panel typology, the academics at the Australian National University were surveyed in 1991 and again in 1994, with the data collected by means of mailed questionnaires. The research drew on the literature of scholarly communication and information-seeking behaviour. Principles of systems theory were used to explain the changes taking place within the academics' environments, including both the system of scholarly communication and the culture of the three disciplinary groupings: science, social science and the humanities. Three research questions directed the study focussing on the effect of enhanced electronic access to information on the academics' use of the library and on their patterns of information seeking and dissemination. Results found that between 1991 and 1994, while some aspects of communication technologies - such as email - had been almost universally adopted, overall, few changes had taken place in academics' information related behaviour. Scientists were more likely to have adopted the new technologies than social scientists or scholars from the humanities. However, there was strong evidence that a small group of academics were adopting the new technologies with enthusiasm suggesting that the overall pattern of use would change in the future.

Abstract:
Since the publication of the third version of Agrarverhältnisse im Altertum (The Agrarian Sociology of Ancient Civilizations, 1909), the concept of capitalism plays an essential role in the analysis of the ancient economy in Max Weber\'s writings. On the one hand, the classification of the ancient economy as capitalist depends on the understanding of its uniqueness. On the other hand, as the bearer of a special kind of capitalist system, the ancient world\'s economy offers a counterpoint to the modern economy. This thesis assumes that Weber has worked in his researches on the ancient economy at two different levels of abstraction, which include distinct types of capitalism; the passage from one abstraction level to another is the basis of the comparison between ancient and modern economy, and allows Weber to better define the concept \"modern capitalism\", in its rational dimension.

Abstract:
The objective of the research is to investigate the relationship between the city structure and the bus terminal in São Paulo, considering the defining role of the urban environment in the definition of its typology. Through historical analysis, I try to understand the emergence of this with the initiatives of structuring an integrated bus system. The hypothesis is that the terminal, despite being able to become a powerful agent for urban structuring and transformation, and to stimulate the creation of a network of centralities in the urbanized territory, follows the spatial and anti-urban logic of the urban functionalism in order to disaggregate socio-spatial environment. The work proposes to understand the structuring of the architectural types implanted for the urban bus terminals from the 1970\'s, through the morpho-typological analysis of the urban bus terminals Bandeira, Princesa Isabel and Lapa. In this sense, the work aims to understand: (1) the role of the mobility infrastructure as an agent of induction of the urban space in the formation of centrality and urbanity; and, (2) the structuring of the architectural typology of the bus terminal.

Abstract:
From a corpus of six manuscripts which had been turned down for publication by Companhia das Letras in 2014, this paper analyzes the main characteristics of contemporary narrators based on their syntactic choices, narrative voice, jargon and crutches, originality, rhythm, verisimilitude, metaphors, dialogues and precision. The classification was achieved from the reading of manuscripts submitted for publication at Companhia das Letras by their authors from 2009 to 2015. While sorting these texts, five narrative types appeared more frequently and, therefore, a typology of narrators was created to systematize these narrative voices and their peculiarities. The narrators, named as Nostalgic, Moderate, Poetic, Snobbish, and Autobiographical are examined from the point of view of the editor, and through stylistics, for the complexity of the novel, textual criticism, and using Bakhtin\'s discourse analysis. With the help of the essays by Erich Auerbach, Bakhtin, Chekhov, H. S. Becker, Steven Pinker, Francine Prose, Stephen King, David Lodge, Schopenhauer and José Luiz Fiorin, this paper attempts to answer why so many authors rely on fragile stylistic resources of little expressive force and on false premises about good literature and the art of narration. The results point to narrators who do not know the difference between being able to communicate in a given language and using it as a stylistic instrumento Added to this, there is the complexity of the novel, a genre that contemplates endless possibilities and therefore turn assertive decisions more difficult. The study yet shows that narrators rely on an old idea of what good literature is - dogmatic, incomprehensible, complex, inaccessible and produced by a small group of writers. Lastly, also according to Bakhtin\'s theory, which states that every discourse is political and therefore molded by the power relations, the narrators use obscure and wordy narratives to disguise insecurities or feel protected from possible criticism.

Abstract:
In an attempt to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the professional development activities offered to help teachers improve their use of technology, the leaders of a rural school district participated in a design process modeled after the Delphi technique. Leaders from the schools summarized past efforts and created plans for future professional learning. Those summaries and plans were critiqued by a panel of experts through multiple iterations. The documents created through that process along with transcripts of the discussions of the panel of experts were analyzed to identify the factors that affected the group's decisions. Three dimensions were identified, and variation in those were used to define three types of professional development activities.

Abstract:
Since the UN Convention is being used as a compass for analysis and is the common thread linking all chapters in this book, the purpose of this chapter is to provide a broad overview of the objectives, principles and obligations contained in the Convention directly relevant to the lives of people living with dementia and their family members and to explain how the Convention works. The chapter also draws on Flynn’s typology for classifying the core themes contained in the UN Convention namely equality, participation, autonomy and solidarity, a typology which will be returned to in chapter eight. It identifies those Articles (a total of 12) which will be critically reviewed in later chapters, it explains the PANEL principles and shows that as a human rights instrument underpinned by the social model of disability, the UN Convention provides a solid basis for the reframing of dementia as a disability. The chapter concludes by discussing a number of recent events which have taken place across the world which reflect a slowly evolving rights based movement in dementia policy and practice.

In this chapter the nature and reach of impact is evaluated and compared across the three sub-panels based on a typology that distinguishes between the effects on policy-making (new policy invention, new direction or new ideas), on practitioners or whether the contribution is based on improved data and knowledge capture. In addition, concepts such as impact pathways and impact agents are being applied to the Impact Case studies of the 2014 REF.

Abstract:
Steel-concrete composite beams embedded in floors (slim-floors) offer various advantages such as the floor thickness reduction or the ease of installation of under-floor technical equipment. However, this typology presents important differences in terms of thermal behaviour, as compared to other composite beams, when exposed to elevated temperatures. These differences are due to their special configuration, being totally contained within the concrete floor depth. Moreover, the current European fire design code for composite steel-concrete structures (EN 1994-1-2) does not provide any simplified thermal model to evaluate the temperature evolution of each slim-floor part during a fire. Additionally, only a few experimental studies can be found which may help understand the thermal behaviour of these composite beams. This paper presents an experimental investigation on the thermal behaviour of slim-floor beams. Electrical radiative panels were used in the test setup to produce the thermal heating. The thermal gap between the lower flange of the steel profile and the bottom steel plate was studied, being found to be one of the most influential elements over the cross-section temperature gradient. The experimental campaign was developed by varying the cross-section configuration in order to evaluate the influence of this parameter over the slim-floor thermal behavior. Finally, the experiments carried out were used to develop and calibrate a finite element thermal model which may help in further research on the thermal behaviour of slim-floor composite beams.
