Abstract:
Composite coatings containing iodine- and bromine-containing compounds as biocides have been obtained on the basis of industrial paintwork materials. A number of composite coatings containing biocides - Nitroxynil, Ioxynil and 2,5-dibrom-4-nitrophenol, have been analyzed using a modified technique for assessing biological activity and toxicity for determining the survival rate of Artemia salina crustaceans. It was found that the compositions on the basis of paintwork materials with Nitroxynil show the greatest bioactivity. AFM study of the surface morphology of the developed coatings showed that the introduction of biocides leads to coating structuring at the nanolevel, with the strength of nanostructured coatings on impact decreases by 2-3 times, however, these values are 2 times higher than those of the reference sample --- an industrial copper-containing antifouling paint. The obtained results can be used for further development of environmentally safe protective and antifouling polymer coatings and paintwork materials. Keywords: protective and antifouling paintwork materials, iodine- and bromine-containing biocides, atomic-force microscopy, morphology of composite coatings, surface roughness, impact strength.

Abstract:
Coatings made of perchlorovinyl enamels have sufficient resistance to atmospheric influences, to the action of water, oil, acids, alkalis and corrosive gases. They are applied to metal and wood. The disadvantages of these materials include their low heat resistance (not higher than 80°C) and poor adhesion to metals. Elimination of the above disadvantages is possible by introducing additives of surfactants of various compositions into the composition of perchlorovinyl paintwork materials.

Abstract:
Ballistic-resistant organoplastics made from layers of aramid fabric, adhesively bonded by a binder film, exhibit an increased tendency to absorb moisture, water and technical fluids in comparison with organoplastics monolithic structures. The absorption of liquids is anisotropic and manifests itself most intensively through the butt ends of the samples. The use of protective paintwork ensures stability of the characteristics of ballistic-resistant materials when exposed to environmental factors (environment, water, fuel, oil, natural climatic conditions).

Abstract:
The article describes the particular qualities of application of a cylindrical steel tanks' and base foundation technical inspection method without removal of a protective covering. The model is formed and the basic parameters of an estimation of economic efficiency of carrying out of diagnostics are determined. The economic efficiency of application of the modern method of vertical steel tank examination is estimated. The high economic efficiency of the new technological method is substantiated in comparison with the traditional method. It is established that the advantage of using the innovative diagnostic method in comparison with the traditional method is fully manifested when it is necessary to maintain a large fleet of tanks. It is calculated that, given the design parameters, the savings in the use of the method proposed by the authors in the long term are 1773.2 million rubles compared with traditional. The use of a new technological method - the technology of diagnosing vertical steel tanks without removing the protective coating, allows to reduce the total cost of conducting diagnostics with a discount of 8.7 times. Dependences were obtained of the discounted volume of expenses on acquisition of the equipment and the subsequent diagnostics of vertical steel tanks on the operation time of the vertical steel tanks.

Abstract:
Physicochemical techniques, in particular spectroscopic, have been an important tool in the characterisation of Cultural Heritage assets. In the case of paintworks, several techniques can be easily applied due to their flat and polished surfaces. In this work, the techniques OM, PXRF, SEM/EDS and micro-RS are used in the analysis of pigments and gold alloys from a polyptych by Bernardo Manuel, the last generation of painters of the Workshop of Coimbra. The complementary use of these techniques allowed a good characterisation of the artworks, without jeopardising them. As such, PXRF was the first approach selected, allowing for both an overview of the artworks and selection of the samples for extraction. It also allowed to determine conclusively the presence of vermilion and lead tin yellow, mainly on red and yellow regions, respectively, and suggested the use of copper-based pigments to colour green and black areas, as well as red ochres in red and brown areas. The PXRF analysis also suggested the use of Flemish white in most white samples, which may be have been purposeful or a consequence of an intervention or incorrect cleaning action. As for the micro-RS analysis of the samples extracted, it allowed to determine the presence of gesso on the preparatory layers of three paintings as well as the composition of the surface layers (proteinaceous or polysaccharideous media) and the use of green earth (terre-verte) as the imprimatura of one of the paintings. It also suggested the presence of carbon-based pigments to achieve black tones. Regarding the study of gold alloys, SEM/EDS indicated that a high purity alloy (in general, 23 C) was employed in the whole polyptych, which is evidence of the importance of the Workshop of Coimbra during its last stage.Lastly, the results obtained support the attribution of the four paintings to the same workshop/artist, although a few aspects seem to have been modified.
