Abstract:
In young adults, overweight and hypertension possibly already trigger cardiac remodeling as seen in mature adults, potentially overlapping non-ischemic cardiomyopathy findings. To this end, in young overweight and hypertensive adults, we aimed to investigate changes in left ventricular mass (LVM) and cardiac volumes, and the impact of different body scales for indexation. We also aimed to explore the presence of myocardial fibrosis, fat and edema, and changes in cellular mass with extracellular volume (ECV), T1 and T2 tissue characteristics. We prospectively recruited 126 asymptomatic subjects (51% male) aged 27–41 years for 3T cardiac magnetic resonance imaging: 40 controls, 40 overweight, 17 hypertensive and 29 hypertensive overweight. Myocyte mass was calculated as (100%–ECV) * height2.7-indexed LVM. Absolute LVM was significantly increased in overweight, hypertensive and hypertensive overweight groups (104 ± 23, 109 ± 27, 112 ± 26 g) versus controls (87 ± 21 g), with similar volumes. Body surface area (BSA) indexation resulted in LVM normalization in overweights (48 ± 8 g/m2) versus controls (47 ± 9 g/m2), but not in hypertensives (55 ± 9 g/m2) and hypertensive overweights (52 ± 9 g/m2). BSA-indexation overly decreased volumes in overweight versus normal-weight (LV end-diastolic volume; 80 ± 14 versus 92 ± 13 ml/m2), where height2.7-indexation did not. All risk groups had lower ECV (23 ± 2%, 23 ± 2%, 23 ± 3%) than controls (25 ± 2%) (P = 0.006, P = 0.113, P = 0.039), indicating increased myocyte mass (16.9 ± 2.7, 16.5 ± 2.3, 18.1 ± 3.5 versus 14.0 ± 2.9 g/m2.7). Native T1 values were similar. Lower T2 values in the hypertensive overweight group related to heart rate. In conclusion, BSA-indexation masks hypertrophy and causes volume overcorrection in overweight subjects compared to controls, height2.7-indexation therefore seems advisable.

Abstract:
The trend of overweight and obesity was growing with shifts in individual and behavioral factors. Globally, overweight and obesity becoming a major problem, yet extensive data especially in Africa is still lacking. The objectives of the study were to determine the prevalence, socio-economic, and lifestyle-related factors associated with overweight and obesity among women aged 18-49 years in Kizinda in Bushenyi district. A cross-sectional analytical study design was used. Data on prevalence was collected through anthropometric measurements using the BMI (Body Mass Index) while those of socio-economic and individual factors were collected with a structured questionnaire. 271 women aged 18-49 years in Kizinda Trading Center, Bushenyi district were sampled. The prevalence of overweight and obesity among women of reproductive age in Bushenyi town was 47.24% and 19.92% respectively. Housewives were twice as likely to be overweighed and obese [AOR: 2.10, 95% CI (0.87- 3.15)]. Unemployed women have 74% [AOR: 1.26, 95% CI (0.50-2.36)] higher odds of being overweight or obese and those who earn >700000 shillings have 37% [AOR: 1.63, 95% CI (0.56-2.25)] higher odds to be overweight and obese. Compared with women who live in rented houses, those who live in their own houses were 48% [AOR: 1.52, 95% CI (0.78-2.94)] higher odds of being overweight or obese. Women who engaged in physical activity had 65% [AOR: 0.35, 95% CI (0.17-1.27)] less odds of being overweight or obese compared to those who did not. Participants whose food intake is mostly rice and ghee had 55% [AOR: 1.45, 95% CI (0.40-1.27)] and 44% [AOR: 1.56, 95% CI (0.53-2.11)] more odds of being overweight or obese respectively compared to those who take Posho. Women whose food intake was mostly milk were two times [AOR: 2.01, 95% CI (0.55-2.75)] more likely to be overweighed or obese compared to those who take Posho. The high prevalence of overweight and obesity among women of reproductive age in Bushenyi calls for serious attention. Abstract:
Background: Eating habits were often linked with overweight or obesity. Several types of food that are often consumed by the public were known to be associated with the occurrence of being overweight/obesity. But information about the association of each type of food is lacking especially in young adults. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the association between eating habits with overweight status among women young adults in Indonesia. Methods: This study analyzed 4966 adults from the fifth waves of the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS5) in 2014. Eating habits are measured by the frequency of consumption of each type of food. A chi square test and logistic regression were used to explore the association between the variables with the overweight status among women young adults. Results: The prevalence of overweight and non-overweight were known to be 41.1% and 59.9%. Milk; cheese; and others consumption (p=0.006) and rice consumption (p=0.017) had negative correlation with overweight/obesity meanwhile sweet foods consumption was associated with overweigh/obesity (p=0,034). On the other hand, it is shown that there is no association between egg consumption, meat consumption, soft drink consumption, and fast food consumption with overweight status among women young adult (p>0,05). Conclusions: It was concluded that the consumption of sweet foods was associated with a higher likelihood of being overweight or obese. In addition, the consumption of rice and milk; cheese; butter; and others that were less frequent associated with a lower likelihood of being overweight or obese. Therefore, the consumption of sweet foods among adult needs to be limited in order to reduce and prevent the problem of being overweight.

Abstract:
Overweight and obesity which are known to pose serious health problems are becoming increasingly prevalent in Nigeria which is a sub-Saharan African country. This study utilized the 2018 Nigeria Demographic Health Survey to examine demographic and socio-economic risk factors of overweight and obesity among Nigerian women aged 15-49 years. Exploratory analysis was used to provide basic description of the data while a semiparametric structured additive models was used to describe the relationship between the presumed factors and overweight and obesity status while also accounting for spatial effects at state level. The national prevalence of overweight and obesity among Nigerian women was found to be 27.4%. Increased risk of overweight and obesity among Nigerian women was found to be strongly associated with being older, high educational level, being rich, living in an urban area, having many children, being pregnant, and residing in southern part of Nigeria. In respect to ethnicity and religion, the Fulani tribe and Islamic religion were associated with lower prevalence of overweight and obesity. Overweight and obesity were found to be significantly more prevalent in the Southern parts compared to the Northern parts of Nigeria. The highest and lowest prevalence of overweight and obesity were observed in Anambra and Yobe states respectively. Prevalence of overweight and obesity was higher among Muslim women compared to Christian women since most Northern women are Muslims and most Southern women are Christians. Random (unstructured) spatial effects were significant indicating that overweigh/obesity was influenced by unobserved state specific factors

Overweight and obesity are health problems that can affect many children and adolescents around the world. The literature has identified that the prevalence of overweight and obesity is high in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Saudi Arabia) in children and adolescents attending schools in Saudi Arabia. Student counselling practices can be a cost effective way to help students to deal with overweight and obesity in Saudi schools. The aim of the study was to conduct an evidence-based review of the literature in order to suggest new approaches to applying student counselling services and programmes in order to directly combat overweight and obesity in schools in Saudi Arabia. The study used a non-empirical review of the literature on overweigh and obesity and on student counselling in the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia. The study argues that in theory student counsellors in schools in Saudi Arabia are ideally placed to help to directly address and reduce the existing high prevalence of overweight and obesity in youths and adolescents attending schools in Saudi Arabia. This could be done using a combination of dietary interventions and counselling methods. The research study concludes that student counselling in schools in Saudi Arabia could potentially be used to directly help to combat and reduce levels of overweight and obesity among school children and adolescents in the long term.

Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between timing of permanent tooth emergence with overweight and obesity in children from Brazilian Amazon region. The studied population consisted of 192 children, 09 to 12 year-old, from public schools at Manaus, Amazonas-Brazil. Clinical examination was performed and the tooth emergence was evaluated according to the number of permanent erupted teeth. Body mass index z-score was calculated. For the statistical analysis ‘Overweight/obese’ group was compared with ‘Normal weight’ group in a case to control ratio 1:2. The t-test based on age was used for means comparison between the groups. A linear regression analysis using age and gender as co-variants was used. The established alpha was 5%. One hundred twenty-seven children were classified as normal weight and 65 were classified as overweight/obese (49 were overweight and 16 were obese). Overweight/obesity condition was associated with the gender, in which boys had a higher chance to present higher weight conditions (OR=1.84; CI 95% 1.06-3.37; p=0.04). The mean number of permanent teeth was higher in the overweight/obesity group (p<0.001). Linear regression analysis demonstrated that nutritional status, gender and age were strongly associated with number of permanent erupted teeth (p<0.05). In conclusion, our study demonstrated that timing of permanent tooth emergence is associated with overweigh/obesity in children from Manaus, Brazil.

These diagnoses reflect the multifactorial nature of obesity, highlighting the need for interdisciplinary and intersectoral articulation of nursing interventions for prevention and control of overweight.

Objectives:This study aims to assess differences in disease activity, functional ability and quality of life among underweight, normal weight, overweigth and obese patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Methods:715 patients with RA (609 women and 106 men) were included in this study. According to their Body-Mass-Index, all patients were divided into four subgroups: underweight (BMI <18,5), normal weight (BMI between 18,5 and 24,9), overweight (BMI between 25,0 and 29,9) and obesitas (BMI ≥ 30,0). Mean values of DAS28, CDAI and SDAI (measures of disease activity), HAQ-disability index (measure of functional ability) and RAQoL index (measure of qualitiy of life) were compared among four subgroups of patients.Results:28 (3,9%) RA patients were underweight, 310 (43,4%) had normal weight, 268 (37,5%) were overweight, whilst 109 (15,2%) patients were obese. Among these subgroups, no difference in mean age, disease duration, percentage of seropositive patients, and patients treated with glucocorticoids, csDMARDs or biologics, was noticed. There were no statistically significant differences in mean values of DAS28, CDAI und SDAI in four subgroups of patients. However, mean value of the HAQ disability index was significantly higher (p<0.05) in underweight (1.32) and obese patients (1.27), compared to normal (0.87) and overweigth patients (1.08). The mean value of the RAQoL-Index was also somewhat higher in underweight and obese patients (8.8 and 8.1, respectively) than patients who are overweight or have normal weigth (7.0 and 6.5, respectively), but the difference was not statistically significant.Conclusion:Underweight and obese RA patients have worse physical function than normal and overweight patients. Abstract:
Objective. To review the extant literature on the prevalence of overweight and obesity in adolescents (10–19 years old) of both sexes. Design. The search was carried out using Medline and Scopus considering articles published from the establishment of the databanks until June 7, 2012. Data on the prevalence of children being overweight and obese from the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF) website was also reviewed. Only original articles and one National Health Report were considered. Forty studies met the inclusion criteria. Results. Twenty-five of these studies were nationally representative, and ten countries were represented only by regional data. Conclusions. The prevalence of overweight and obesity among adolescents worldwide is high, and obesity is higher among boys. The IOTF criterion is the most frequently used method to classify adolescents as overweighed or obese in public health research.

The quality of life in elderly hypertension with overweight and non-overweightBackground: Indonesia will enter the period of aging and an increase in several elderlies with chronic diseases. The biggest health problems of the elderly are degenerative diseases, namely hypertension which significantly disrupts the quality of life both in terms of physical and mental health. One of the causal conditions associated with hypertension is overweight and obesity, which is known at this time the prevalence of obesity is growing progressively in old age. However, the results of research related to the influence of obesity on quality of life are still controversial.Objective: To determine differences in quality of life between hypertensive elderly who are overweight and non-overweight.Method: Cross-sectional study conducted in Yogyakarta City in Januari-April 2017 with a subject of 200 elderly people aged 60-74 years. Overweight was determined based on BMI measurements (>23 kg/m2) with an estimation of elderly height using depa length, quality of life of the elderly was measured using WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire, and compared the quality of life by age, gender, education, occupation, income, marital status, comorbidity, and disease history. Data analysis used independent t-test and linear regression.Results: Mean of environmental domain score was significantly higher (p=0,012) in elderly hypertension with overweight (26,69±3,28) compared to elderly hypertension non-overweight (25,44±3,58). Overweight protective effect on the low quality of life of the environment domain because it is influenced by other factors such as marital status, income, and education. Multivariate analysis shows that income and marital status are external factors that consistently influence the quality of life of the elderly both in total scores and per domain. High-income elderly people with married status have a better quality of life score.Conclusions: The mean score of the environmental domain is higher in elderly hypertension with overweight. Quality of life scores will be better in high income elderly and married.

Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan indepth interview, observasi partisipasi, dan data sekunder. Jumlah subyek sebanyak 11 orang. Model konseling yang digunakan adalah transtheoritical model. Konseling dilakukan 1 kali tiap minggu selama 4 minggu. Subjek penelitian adalah remaja dengan status gizi overweightHasil : Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terjadi perubahan sikap dan perilaku pemilihan makan setelah dilakukan konseling gizi. Perubahan perilaku pemilihan makan pada remaja menjadi lebih baik, ditunjukkan hampir seluruh responden menerapkan anjuran yang diberikan oleh konselor. Terdapat perbedaan antara sikap dan perilaku pemilihan makan remaja sebelum dan setelah dilakukan konseling gizi.Kesimpulan : Konseling gizi mempengaruhi perubahan sikap dan pemilihan makan pada remaja overweight.

Introduction: In adolescence, intense social and school demands, hormonal changes that modify the circadian rhythms and the overuse of electronic equipments causes an inadequate sleep duration to adolescents. Studies have linked short sleep duration with the increase odds to have overweight and obesity. Objective: To identify articles that analyzed relationship between inadequate sleep time and overweight and obesity in adolescents. Method: It was done a research on Bireme (Lilacs and MEDLINE), PubMed, Scielo and Ibecs for two independents researchers using Portuguese and English keywords: “sleep”, “sleep duration”, “adolescence”, “obesity” and “overweigh”. It was considerated as inclusion criteria: sample with 10-19-year adolescents, original articles between 2002 and 2013 in Portuguese and English. Therefore, it was excluded review articles, thesis, dissertations and monographs. Objectives: To investigate socio-demographic factors and diseases causingoverweight and obesity among 25 to 60 years women. Study Design: Descriptive crosssectionalstudy. Duration & Setting: Comprised of five months (January 2016 to May 2016);concerning household survey i.e. door to door sampling method was carried out in Lahore,Pakistan. Material and Methods: Multistage sampling technique was used and 3239 womenaging 25 to 60 years; of which 1684 (52%) females were normal weight (excluded from theresearch) and 1555 (48%) overweight/obese women i.e. 1106 (34%) were overweight and 449(14%) women were obese (included in the analysis).Descriptive statistics and Bivariate logisticregression was applied on the achieved data through IBM SPSS Statistics Version 21. Results:Socio-demographic factors and diseases were found significantly associated with overweightand obesity; includes age (p=0.001), marital status (p<0.000), level of education (p=0.000),occupation (p=0.000), father/husband occupation (p=0.000) and monthly income (p=0.001);whereas, diseases such as hypothyroidism (p=0.001), polycystic ovarian syndrome (p=0.000),menstrual period (p=0.001) and depression/stress (p=0.000)as their p-values were less than0.05 (significant). Conclusion: The research findings points out notable explanation of sociodemographicfactors and diseases causing overweight and obesity among 25 to 60 yearswomen with respect to which the study can definitely summarized to countless extent.

Conclusion:The study leads to the interesting exposition of the various overwhelming diseases relatedto overweight and obesity. Significant achievements were obtained by considering differentcomorbidities with respect to which the topic can be easily summarized to some extent.

Abstract:
This longitudinal study investigates whether there are particularly salient ages when being overweight is related to problems in interpersonal relationships (i.e., physical, relational, and verbal victimization, lack of friend social support, dating status, and romantic relationship worries). Participants were from a large, six-wave longitudinal study ( N = 662, 48% males, M age at T1 = 15.5 years, SD = 1.9 years). We use time-varying effect models to estimate how the associations between weight status and interpersonal problems differ from ages 12 to 28. Gender differences are also investigated. Findings show that youth who are overweight are more likely to experience verbal victimization, feel less supported by their peers, and are less likely to date than youth who are not overweight from mid-adolescence into early young adulthood. Further, females who are overweight are more likely to be physically victimized at ages 15 to 22 than females who are not overweight. The results provide a better understanding of age-related changes in interpersonal problems among youth who are overweight from adolescence into young adulthood.

BackgroundQuantification of the burden of overweight on the healthcare system is becoming increasingly urgent for health policy, but accurate estimates are hard to obtain.MethodsIn order to assess healthcare utilisation and expenditure of overweight and non-overweight children, we linked, on an individual basis, data on body mass index from a birth cohort study with administrative health insurance claims data. In children aged 14–15 years, we compared utilisation and expenditure on general practice care, dental care, hospital/specialist care, prescribed medication, allied healthcare and mental healthcare of overweight children (overweight at age 11 and 14, n=80) and non-overweight children (no overweight at age 11 and 14, n=1253).ResultsFor overweight children, mean 1-year healthcare expenditure was €837 per child and for non-overweight children €616. This difference was mainly due to significant differences in utilisation of hospital care (49% vs 37%) and mental healthcare (14% vs 7%) and to a lesser extent to higher expenditure per user.ConclusionOur results indicate the potential value of linking survey data to claims data in order to obtain insight into the healthcare costs of childhood overweight. Further studies should elucidate whether the observed differences are causally related to overweight.
