Abstract:
Recent advances in Computer Vision (CV) algorithms have improved accuracy and efficiency, making video annotations possible with high accuracy. In this paper, we utilize the annotated data provided by such algorithms and construct graph representations to capture both object labels and spatial-temporal relationships of objects in videos. We define the problem of Spatial and Temporal Constrained Ranked Retrieval (STAR Retrieval) over videos. Based on the graph representation, we propose a two-phase approach, consisting of the ingestion phase, where we construct and materialize the Graph Index (GI), and the query phase, where we compute the top ranked windows (video clips) according to the window matching score efficiently. We propose two algorithms to perform Spatial Matching (SMA) and Temporal Matching (TM) separately with an early-stopping mechanism. Our experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods, achieving orders of magnitude speedups on queries with high selectivity.

Abstract:
First, a procedure is presented in order to build the space of statically admissible wrenches. The matrix which generates them is obtained in an intrinsic way. It uses intersection of spaces for the edges (of the associated graph) and the new operation of “triangular projection” for the vertices. From this matrix, the choice of any set of indeterminable contact forces is achieved via a very simple test. This matrix allows to determine also all the possible degrees of freedom to add to the over-constrained mechanism in order to transform it into a non over-constrained one. Wrench-twist duality arises clearly in this last procedure.

Abstract:
In many applications, such as decision support, negotiation, planning, scheduling, etc., one needs to express requirements that can be only partially satisfied. In order to express such requirements, we propose a technique called forward-tracking. Intuitively, forward-tracking is a kind of dual of chronological back-tracking: if a program globally fails to find a solution, then a new execution is started from a program point and a state 'forward' in the computation tree. This search technique is applied to the specific paradigm of constraint logic programming, obtaining a powerful extension that preserves all the useful properties of the original scheme. We report on the successful practical application of forward-tracking to the evolutionary training of (constrained) neural networks, and discuss other interesting applications.

Abstract:
The complete pole configuration of a planar n-link mechanism having one instantaneous degree of mobility, possesses (3n−4)/2 independent poles determining (n−2)2/2 remaining poles of the configuration. The dependency is demonstrated through Desargues’ Theorem and her generalizations. Simultaneously, pole configurations have been “elated” into three-dimensional point-lattices intersected by a plane. The insight obtained in these configurations allows the designer to find clues in building overconstrained linkage mechanisms meeting certain geometrical properties.

Abstract:
Over-constrained assembly of rigid parts is widely adopted in aircraft assembly to yield higher stiffness and accuracy of assembly. Unfortunately, the quantitative tolerance analysis of over-constrained assembly is challenging, subject to the coupling effect of geometrical and physical factors. Especially, gravity will affect the geometrical gaps in mechanical joints between different parts, and thus influence the deviations of assembled product. In the existing studies, the influence of gravity is not considered in the tolerance analysis of over-constrained assembly. This paper proposes a novel tolerance analysis method for over-constrained assembly of rigid parts, considering the gravity influence. This method is applied to a typical over-constrained assembly with constraints of multiple planar hole-pin-hole pairs. This type of constraints is non-linear, which makes the tolerance analysis more challenging. Firstly, the deviation propagation analysis of an over-constrained assembly is conducted. The feasibility of assembly is predicted, and for a feasible assembly, the assembly deviations are determined with the principle of minimum potential energy. Then, the statistical tolerance analysis is performed. The probabilities of assembly feasibility and quality feasibility are computed, and the distribution of assembly deviations is estimated. Two case studies are presented to show the applicability of the proposed method.

Abstract:
The Internet of Things (IoT) is being deployed to provide smart solutions for buildings, logistics, hospitals, and many more. It is growing with billions of connected devices. However, with such tremendous growth, maintenance and support are the hidden burdens. The devices deployed for IoT generally have a light microcontroller, low-power, low memory, and lightweight software. The software, which includes firmware and applications, can be managed remotely via a wireless connection. This improves flexibility, installation time, accessibility, effectiveness, and cost. The firmware can be updated constantly to remove known bugs and improve the functionality of the device. This work presents an approach to update firmware over-the-air (OTA) for constrained IoT devices. We used Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) as the wireless communication standard to communicate between the managing server and devices. NB-IoT is one of the most promising low power wide area (LPWA) network protocols that supports more than 50k devices within a cell using a licensed spectrum. This work is a proof of concept demonstrating the usage of NB-IoT to update firmware for constrained devices. We also calculated the overall power consumption and latency for different sizes of the firmware.

Abstract:
A new teminology, “degenerative degrees of freedom”, to describe mechanisms possessing different degrees of freedom (DOF) while containing the same number of linkages and joints is introduced. A systematic approach is developed for studying this particular type of closed loop mechanism and its degeneration characteristics of DOFs. First, the single closed loop over-constrained mechanism is analyzed and a relationship between the number of over-constraints and the number of joints and DOFs is established. Then, all possible types of independent over-constraints and their combinations are summarized. Further the non-instantaneous condition of the mechanism is analyzed by using an analytical method. The paper delineates three rules that provide the guidelines for the layout of joints, linkages and their assembly. Finally, the degenerative characteristics of all such mechanisms are systematically tabulated along with sketches of some typical ones. To corroborate the literature an example involving two 6R closed loop mechanisms with 1 and 3 DOFs respectively is presented and analyzed, thus validating their degenerative characteristics.

Abstract:
The problem of optimal power constrained distributed detection over a noisy multiaccess channel (MAC) is addressed. Under local power constraints, we define the transformation function for sensor to realize the mapping from local decision to transmitted waveform. The deflection coefficient maximization (DCM) is used to optimize the performance of power constrained fusion system. Using optimality conditions, we derive the closed-form solution to the considered problem. Monte Carlo simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed new method. Simulation results show that the proposed method could significantly improve the detection performance of the fusion system with low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We also show that the proposed new method has a robust detection performance for broad SNR region.
