Full textOFDM multicarrier techniques are now widely deployed in most wireless communication systems, in particular in cellularnetworks (L TE), broadcast networks (DVB) and WiFi networks. However, multi-carrier modulations are characterized by avery large dynamic amplitude measured by the Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). which prevents radio frequencydesigners to feed the signal at the optimal point of the Power Amplifier (PA) which reduces the PA energy efficiency. Inliterature, the PAPR reduction and linearization techniques are the main approaches to solve the PAPR problem, the PAnonlinearities problem. as well as the low PA efficiency problem. The approach developed in this thesis was to study an intelligent solution for future implementations to control thereduction of PAPR and the linearization steps in a flexible way according to some predefined parameters so that theybecome adaptive and self-configurable. More specifically, our work focused on the analytical analysis of in-band measureby the Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) and out-of-band distortions measured by the Adjacent Chanel Power Ratio (ACPR)for clipped multicarrier signals taking into account the impact of non-linear amplification, memory effects and predistortion. In particular. many analytical results complemented by simulation results to evaluate the EVM and ACPR are proposed. These analytical expressions depend on the PA characteristics taking into account or not the PA memory effects and theuse of clipping and pre-distortion techniques. lt is worthwhile to note that our proposed theoretical analyses could be veryuseful for optimizing future transmitter efficiency and linearity in the field of broadcasting applications for the deployment oDVB-T2 transmitters as well as for L TE cellular networks

Full textThis study investigates verbal and visuospatial memory strategies used by individuals with perceptual or cognitive disabilities. The groups concentrated on in this study are deaf individuals who are native sign language users and individuals with dyslexia.
The study comprises an experiment and an in-depth study in which a pre-test and a questionnaire were used. Nine deaf signers, two persons with dyslexia and 12 persons without any perceptual or cognitive constraints participated. Of these 23 persons, seven were selected to take part in the in-depth study.
The results indicate individual differences in working memory capacity among the subjects and differences in performance and processing between native sign language users and hearing individuals. Further, all of the participants were using a number of different strategies and shifting between strategies in the experiment. The results demonstrate that the amount of information individuals are able to hold activated in working memory is dependent on a range of factors, both internal factors specific to the individual and external factors relating to how information is presented. Guidelines for information presentation to limit working memory demands based on the findings are suggested.

Full textSince her literary debut, the classics have regularly surfaced in the highly intertextual writing of Elfriede Jelinek by means of fragmentary and fleeting citations. Her recent dramatic productions are marked by an ever greater confrontation with the Germanic classics, with numerous rewritings produced since the mid-2000s. Among these, the play Ulrike Maria Stuart (published online over three days in 2006 and only published in print in 2015) echoes Friedrich Schiller’s play Marie Stuart, while FaustIn and out (accessible free of charge on Jelinek’s website since 2011) toys with the “immeasurable” work of Goethe, (Ur-)Faust. This study unravels the different strata of the palimpsest and revises the spaces occupied by rewriting through a well-defined path, an approach with multiple entry points that allows the functioning and issues of rewriting to be described from the perspective of both its production and its reception, notably in form of dramatization. By analysing how the space of rewriting evolves into a sort of unwriting and takes advantage of “secondary” or minor (Deleuze) writing, the macrostructural, aesthetic, and socio-literary stakes of these texts emerge. The confrontation with classicity resonates with the new positioning of the author within the literary field, especially through the process of the classicisation of her works, and influences the uncommon editorial approach framing the works of the corpus under investigation

Full textThis discertation has its focus on the empiric interest of the search and the construction of the solidary relationships that were built as a result of the Agênda Colômbia-Brasil constitution. This text inquires the way in which due to the narratives related with social and political conflicto in Colombia discussions about solidary relationships between different political contexts. This work tries to stablish how emotional actions lead to solidary potical process which knotted in the same time experiences on brazilian militans and migrants of differetn political parties and political movements. In the same way this work claims for the emergency escenarios of this type of political organization and its positioning on a transnational political space. This work understands that this positioning occurs from stablishing a conceptual framework of enunciation based on the practice “give out” a determines context of the conflicto. Investigates in the memory and what it enunciates about the social and political conflicto in Colombia from an space as brazilian is.

Full textThe aim of this study was to realise a “rodent model” (C57Bl/6 mice) of age-related working memory (WM) impairments, and to evaluate the procognitive impact of several pharmacological compounds. We show that compared to young adult mice (4-5 months), aged mice (18-19 months) exhibit an exaggerated vulnerability to delay-dependant interference in a sequential spontaneous alternation task. CREB activity assessed by immunohistochemistry demonstrates that aged mice show an over-activation of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) negatively correlated with behavioural performance. Infusion of an inhibitor of CREB activation into the PFC restores WM performance in aged mice. Both results highlight the link between the PFC over-activation and the age-related cognitive deficit.Pharmacological study reveals that cholinergic compounds restore cognitive performance of aged mice and act differently on brain structures sustaining WM. On one hand, donepezil – an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase – increases CREB activation of the hippocampus. On the other hand, S 38232 – an agonist of α4β2 nicotinic receptors – decreases the CREB age-induced over-activation of the PFC. Finally, using β2 knock-out mice, we show that the regulation of the cholinergic system is submitted to complex mechanisms.Overall, our experimental set up demonstrates that spontaneous alternation is a valuable model for studying age-related WM impairments. In accordance with human’s findings, our results highlight the link between prefrontal over-activation and the cognitive decline occurring during ageing. Considering that S 38232, by decreasing the CPF over-activation, alleviates the WM deficit observed in aged mice, the α4β2 nicotinic receptor appears to be an efficient target for new therapeutic strategies

Full textThis thesis addresses the difficulties of writing the civil war and tackles the Druze-Christian relations clashes, representations, conflicting memories and a failure of the reconciliation process, implemented by the State at the end of the armed hostilities, and according to the clauses provided by the Ta’if Agreement. Besides the introduction that includes a geographical overview of the Druze-Christian region of cohabitation, that is the Southern part of Mount Lebanon, commonly called al-Jabal (the Mountain), a first historical part addresses the Druze-Christian relations in their political context since Lebanon’s independence in 1943 and until the official end of the Lebanese War in 1990 with a large emphasis on the Mountain War in 1982-1983 and the wars that resulted from it, in the Chahhâr in 1984, and in the Iqlîm al-Kharrûb in 1985. Those constitute a major fracture in the relations between the Druze and Christian communities. This first attempt at historicizing these wars is based on unpublished sources and cuts across many interviews. The second part tackles, in a first chapter, the Reconciliation process in an uncertain post-war, and the political relations between Druze and Christians. A second chapter addresses the vivid memories and the uses of the past related to the clashes and massacres of the nineteenth century (the harakât of 1841, 1845 and 1860), and the links in the memories between past wars and the Lebanese war. A third chapter reports on crossed representations between Druze and Christians, as well on conflicting memories related to the War of the Mountain. The Druze-Christian relations in Southern Mount Lebanon alongside wars and reconcilitations, representations and memories

Between theories of leadership gained special attention to LMX (Theory Leader Member relationship) theory that addresses the supervisors-subordinate relationship, where the first manifest a tendency to segregation of subordinates in in-group and out-group. This represent a negative trend to organizational performance, by that a research followed the aim to analyze the relations Leader Member and its impact on individual and organizational performance by focusing research at the University José Eduardo dos Santos (UJES). Methodologically decided to diagnose the state of the LMX Theory in UJES. Were designed and implemented three surveys, one answered by a sample of 40 supervisors and other for a sample of 60 subjects. Since the problem of study was: What is the impact of the issues related to the theory of exchange between supervisor and subordinate, in 2013 and 2014 in UJES? Were formulate five sub-questions (SQ1, SQ2, SQ3, SQ4 and SQ5), that grouped the items that respond to each sub-question. Each inquiry item had the response options: Strongly Disagree (1); Very Disagree (2); Partly Disagree (3); Not Agree and Not Disagree (4); Partially Agree (5); Very Agree (6); High Agree (7). Based on the characteristics of items and frequency analysis of the responses, we calculated the sums of responses (1), (2) and (3) - considered to be less positive, the sum of responses (5), (6) and (7 ) considered to be more positive. How dominate the responses of more positive, were confirmed five sub-issues, noting that many supervisors and subordinates observed that there is segregation of subordinates in preferred and non-preferred; problem affecting trust, ethics, motivation, and behavior of subordinates, carrying your individual performance and organizational performance.

Through case studies of three Boston-area neighborhoods, East Boston, South Boston, and North Quincy, this dissertation examines the vernacular memory practices of the residents of historically ethnic neighborhoods to show the ways in which everyday representations of the past allow individuals to strategically negotiate a meaningful sense of shared identity. Using field interviews, vernacular digital sources, previously recorded oral histories, amateure historical texts, memoirs, and other expressive memory works, this study examines locally produced representations of historical identity that range from the social imagining of translocal past to personal memories of neighborhood life that are deeply rooted in an understanding of local space as ethnic place. Chapters One through Three trace the scholarly literature on space and place, social memory, and folklore studies in order to demonstrate the way in which, through a process of selection and emphasis, local folk histories have often been used to strategically reaffirm the connection between contested spaces and a certain ethnic identity. They further show how individuals use their own personal narrative repertoire to situate themselves within these traditionalized or naturalized understandings of neighborhood space. Chapters Four and Five explore a variety of contests and conflicts over the traditionalized sense of space and place examined in the initial chapters. Developing the notion that cultural symbols, such as the shamrock or the flag of the People's Republic of China, and practices, such as the celebrations surrounding Columbus Day or the Autumn Moon Festival, can bring together or "index" a variety of identity constructs, these chapters demonstrate the ways that these symbols can be strategically deployed in order to build or disrupt traditionalized understandings of the connections between neighborhoods and ethnic identity. Finally, Chapter Six suggests that, as a result of the emerging vernacular use of geospatial media technologies, the cultural symbols, narratives, and practices that are integral to the construction of local conceptual maps can now be accessed virtually. This makes available the possibility that meaningful local identities can be formed by actors who are interacting with these traditional understandings of local place virtually but who are not physically present in local spaces.
