Abstract:
COVID-19 pandemic has affected many areas including cinema exhibitions. Due to non-opening of cinema theatres film makers found the platform that is over-the-top (OTT). Before COVID-19 OTT was not able to compete with theatrical release. However, the pandemic situations changed the way of movie release through OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hot-star and others. The usage of OTT increased during the period of lockdown. According to Boston Consulting Group, subscriptions increased 60% and average watching hours increased to 14.5%. In the Kannada film industry, the well-known actor and producer Punith Rajkumar’s two films titled Law and French Biriyani were released on India's second largest OTT platform Amazon Prime during the lockdown period. In this context, this research tried to find prospects of Kannada film exhibition through OTT platform. The specific objectives are to explore the opportunities for releasing Kannada films through OTT, to study the challenges ahead in this way. The study used both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Online surveys conducted with structured questionnaires among 100 OTT users and in-depth interviews conducted among the people who are involved in film making from Kannada film industry to answer the research questions. This study would help filmmakers who are intended to release their film through OOT in future.

Abstract:
Purpose The outbreak of COVID-19 saw a robust increase in viewership of over-the-top (OTT) media platforms. This study aims to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on OTT platforms in India, as it has led to reshaping consumer content preferences. Design/methodology/approach The authors have conducted primary research by doing a survey and focus group discussion. The first study has focused on the impact of various factors such as time, content, convenience, satisfaction and work from home (WFH) on OTT platforms during the COVID-19 crisis and the second study has focused on change in behavior of people before and during lockdown using visual representation. Findings The findings of this study show that lockdown has played a major role in the increase in viewership of OTT platforms, as people working from home are also using OTT platforms more. The average hours spent on OTT have increased from 0–2 to 2–5 h and average spending that users are willing to make on OTT platforms is Rs 100–300 (per month). The satisfaction level of customers is directly related to space to watch with family, time to use OTT platforms, the quality of content on OTT platforms and preference of OTT platform over television. Also, factors such as age group, occupation, city and income groups also determine the usage of the OTT platform. Originality/value The main contribution of this paper is to analyze the customer needs that impact their satisfaction level.

Abstract:
OTT, the new video streaming service in India has rapidly evolved over the last few years. Post Covid era forced the people to follow a new and different pattern of video consumption which accelerated the growth of OTT platforms. Unlike traditional TV, in the new platform content creators can communicate with their consumers directly through an internet interface which offers much ease viewing at one’s own convenient space and time. Changing demographics, growing internet penetration & data consumption, affordable smart phones, elevated the trend and later leads to cord-cutting phenomenon. However a close analysis of OTT platform shows that apart from the demographic and infrastructural changes success of the new video platform is primarily determined by the quality and variety of content delivered by the OTT media. To compete with the traditional TV and the emerging regional OTT platforms, content strategists adopt different innovative idea. This report is the overview of the factors that leads to the adoption of the content localization strategy by OTTP in India. The study also entails the opportunity of particular strategy.

The presence of the Netflix OTT platform in the film and television world has caused a shift in the film-watching ecosystem from cinemas to new alternative spaces for viewing. This paper will discuss the heterotopia construction that occurs on the Netflix OTT platform. The construction of heterotopia in this article will be discussed using the heterotopia approach initiated by Michel Foucault using qualitative descriptive analysis methods to analyze and disclose data as information media using field survey techniques and literature review. The results of the study show that the Netflix OTT platform space fulfills most of the heterotopia concept space proposed by Foucault. In addition, the various principles of heterotopia space that exist on the Netflix platform are also in line with Foucault’s views. Analysis of aspects of crisis and deviation, function, juxtaposition, time, place, and society shows that there is a relationship and affinity between real space and unreal space that complement each other and cannot be separated from one another on the Netflix OTT platform.

Abstract:
Google and Apple together are ruling the mobile phone industry with their operating systems, Android and iOS. Any mobile application willing to reach the vast majority of end-users, need to be run on both platforms. The issue, however, arises when considering that fact that developing an application for each platform requires different knowledge and code base. Cross-platform frameworks are emerged to overcome the mentioned issue by providing the possibility to develop a mobile application which works on multiple platforms with potentially a single code base.To investigate the capabilities of cross-platform frameworks, three frameworks were chosen to be compared; React Native backed by Facebook, Xamarin owned by Microsoft, and Flutter developed by Google. The chosen frameworks have been compared in the context of OTT Videooriented mobile applications. As a reference application OTT Flow, an OTT Video application developed by Accedo, has been used. The findings in this thesis shows that Xamarin is not a good choice for the purpose of this thesis since no advantages were witnessed in most of the criteria. React Native and Flutter, on the other hand, offer promising features which suit developing OTT applications. When considering the video-specific functionalities, however, React Native stood out slightly better. In fact, even though React Native is possibly the best choice among the mentioned frameworks for developing OTT Video-oriented mobile applications, the cross-platform frameworks are not mature enough in terms of video-specific functionalities support yet.

Abstract:
As Over The Top (OTT), platforms continue to gain market share and disrupt traditional linear broadcasters has lead academic, business leaders and legislators to consider if conventional marketing and Information systems models can explain continued use intentions for OTT platforms. While the adoption of technology is crucial to the success of an enterprise, it is continued use that determines the long term sustainability of an enterprise. Understanding the factors that drive continued use intentions of OTT platforms is crucial for developing long-standing sustainable and loyal relationships with customers. Video-on-demand platforms like YouTube, Showmax, Amazon and Netflix continue to disrupt traditional linear broadcasters and are continuously altering the TV and video marketplace and value chains. These OTT platforms are altering consumer viewing trends, moving away from TV schedules prescribed and dictated by traditional broadcasters, resulting in time-shifted viewing. These changes are no longer limited to time-shifted viewing; consumers are increasingly in control of when and how they view video content, resulting in fragmented viewing patterns, significantly impacting mass media models relied on by the advertising industry. The results of our quantitative study indicate that the proposed model for continued use explains 69 percent of the variation in continued use intentions. Our findings indicate that consumers are multihoming and using multiple competing platforms, concurrently, which is inconsistent with conventional marketing and IS theory that consumers adopt and use only one competing product. Our findings indicate that the presence of a competing product impacts user continuance intentions, habit and satisfaction. However, the impact size was insignificant for intentions and satisfaction.

Abstract:
Over the past decade, the development of streaming entertainment such as movies, TV shows, documentaries and sports has increased drastically. This development has resulted in a number of new OTT (over-the-top) companies entering the market. Some of the world's largest entertainment and telecom companies have in recent years invested in this type of platform. The competition is constantly increasing as a variety of streaming services are available for the consumers to choose from. The consumer’s role is continuously growing in the development of these services, while e-loyalty is becoming a more important factor in creating competitive advantages online.  The purpose of the study is to investigate whether the 8Cs and eWOM create trust and satisfaction, by extension, e-loyalty to OTT platforms. The study is based on a deductive research approach of a quantitative nature. Through a survey, empirical data have been collected and then analyzed through descriptive statistics and regression analysis.  The results indicate that care, customization, character, contact interactivity and eWOM have a positive impact on trust and satisfaction. Furthermore, the results suggest that trust and satisfaction in turn have a strong positive impact on e-loyalty. Lastly, a model has been designed based on the results of the study, which can be provided as a practical and theoretical contribution. The model demonstrates which factors OTT companies should take into account when offering services to promote e-loyalty among their consumers. This paper is written in Swedish.

Abstract:
In order to prevent work-related injuries in manual work, a correct body posture is important. Therefore, problems arise in workplaces in the industry where operators of different body length have to work at the same workplace; they get different body positions depending on how high the work area is located. OMT Techcon wants to solve this problem through an ergonomic operator platform which the operator stands on and adjusts the height of work after his or her body length. This degree project was about drafting a concept proposal on such an operator platform. The work began with an information gathering on defining what a correct body posture means. Information gathering on other areas such as strain ergonomics, anthropo- metric data and safety were addressed. Furthermore, the current range of ergonomic lifting platforms and various lifting mechanisms that could be used for height adjustment of the platform were investigated. A visit to Volvo in Torslanda was made to form an idea of the environment in which the platform was intended to be located. Customer needs for the operator platform were identified, partly based on interviews and observations from operators on Volvo, but also from other sources such as the information gathering. Customer needs were translated into more concrete and measurable product specifications that the continued work was based on. After a functional specification consisting of both primary functions and support functions of the ergonomic operator platform was made, a number of suggestions for different product concepts were developed. The concepts were developed through a morphological matrix consisting on the primary product functions and solutions for these functions developed from a brainstorming session. The potential of the developed product concepts was analyzed using a Kesselring matrix where the concepts were compared to a reference object on an already existing operator platform. The reference object used was the one with the lowest self-height that had been identified during the information gathering. The three concepts considered to have the highest potential were selected and its primary functions were further developed and tested through various prototypes. Through discussion with the client, a definite concept was selected from these, which was then further developed with regard to previously treated primary functions, but also support functions were processed until a complete concept was specified.

Abstract:
The Bistable Aerial Platform (BAP) has been developed in order to further enlarge the repertoire of devices available at the microscale. This novel device functions as a switch in that its platform can lock in two positions, up or down. Herein, it will be examined and explained, but a true understanding of its workings requires a better understanding of its compliant constituent parts. The Helico-Kinematic Platform (HKP), which serves as an actuator for the BAP, is currently under investigation by another researcher and will be merely touched upon here. The focus, therefore, will rest on the analysis of the Quadrantal Bistable Mechanism (QBM), the principle component of the BAP. A preliminary pseudo-rigid-body model, an aid for the understanding of compliant mechanisms, will also be examined for the QBM. The models developed for these two devices, the HKP and QBM, can later be combined to form a full model of the Bistable Aerial Platform.

During the last years, material science has been focused on the exploration of the material characteristics at nanoscale. In fact, some materials show different properties only if they are designed with a nanometer structure. Even if they can be used to build macro devices (e.g., tactile surface, strain sensors), the nanostructured materials can reach high sensitivity or accuracy. Thin films [1], nanoparticles [2] and nanowires composites [3] have been widely used thanks to their sensitivity to mechanical strengths [4] or light stimuli [5–7]. In these cases, a large number of nanostructured elements have been merged in a single device to transduce macro-phenomena (e.g., strain, bending, pressure, temperature). Although nanomaterials can be used for standard sensor applications, the aim of nanotechnology is to exploit the dimension of the basic elements (e.g., nanoparticles) to conceive innovative applications at nanoscale. In order to exploit the ultra-small dimension of these materials, researchers addressed the development of nanodevices including only a single nanostructured element to increase sensitivity and accuracy. Nanomaterials, such as nanowires (NWs), bridging molecules or nanoparticles, are considered the basis for a new generation of bio-sensors able to interact with gases [8, 9], molecules (e.g., DNA molecules) or other bio-substances at nanoscale. Some examples are the lab-on-chip designed to implement drug detection using functionalized CNT [10] and the Electronic Nose able to identify different gas molecules [11]. The fabrication process of a nanosensor (or nanodevice) mainly consists in the integration of nanomaterials (previously synthesized for achieving the desired functionality) with metal electrodes. The fabrication process is actually complex and implies high costs. Different techniques can be used to connect nanomaterial with metal electrodes and, then, to the custom electronic interface. The most used methods for integration involve a stochastic deposition upon interdigitated electrodes [12] or chemical processes to directly grow the nanomaterials in-situ [13] or an electrically controlled deposition of nanomaterials dissolved in liquid solution [14]. The fabricated nanodevice is a passive component and it needs to be connected to a measurement system, involving long cables and therefore high parasitics. Fundamentally, when a nanomaterial is exposed to specific molecules or physical phenomena, its resistance or capacitance changes proportionally to the sensed quantity. Thus, the larger the variation of the resistance or capacitance of nanomaterials, the higher the sensitivity to specific phenomena. The electronic interface for passive nanosensors should be able to stimulate the nanomaterial and convert the large variation of its electrical characteristics to analog or digital signals compliant with commercial electronics. The nanomaterial signal is usually a current in the pA-μA range and the noise coupling, due to long interconnections, can easily affect the whole nanodevice sensitivity. Hence, a new approach for the nanosensor fabrication and for the read-out is strictly required to cut fabrication costs and improve measurement accuracy. The electronic interface needs to be placed as close as possible to avoid interferences at the interconnection cables. Anyway, the read-out system has also to overcome flicker-noise effects during DC or low-frequency measurements. In addition to the issues related to the measurement accuracy, a single nanosensor is not sufficient to produce reliable results because of the process variation in nanomaterial synthesis and nanodevice fabrication. Thus, an array of nanosensors is strongly suggested because a large number of nanodevices compensates the defects in single nanosensor fabrication. The measurement system provides the final results performing an average calculation of the nanosensor outputs. Actually, if the final aim is a complex system as the Electronic Nose [15] (i.e., an integrated multi-sensors system) or a bio-sensors for blood analysis [16], an array of nanosensors is strictly required given that different molecules have to be detected and average measurements are mandatory. This PhD thesis reports about a flexible platform implemented in CMOS technology for conceiving a Micro-for-Nano (M4N) system where nanosensors and microelectronics coexist on the same chip. The nanomaterial integration process (Chapter 2, Chapter 3), the read-out circuits for nanosensor interface (Chapter 4, Chapter 5) and the architecture to handle large number of integrated nanosensors (Chapter 6) will be described in the following chapters. The M4N project has been developed in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Tecnology (IIT@PoliTO), which has supported all the experiments needed to set-up the integration process and to characterize the designed CMOS circuits.

Abstract:
Students spend more time using English out-of-school compared to in school. Situated in previous research on Extramural English, this study will be drawing on interviews with a specially selected sample of upper secondary school students who engage in intense and personally meaningful interactions in English-mediated communities online. This qualitative research study seeks to answer how and where these students communicate. Furthermore, the students’ experiences of use of English in school and in online communities will be explored. Results are based on a thematic content analysis. Based on the result, students experience high confidence in their L2 English proficiency in online communities. However, some of the participants experience anxiety and worries when using English in school. Teachers need to be aware of their students’ Extramural English to understand challenges related to students’ in- and out-of-school L2 English experiences.

Abstract:
The book series, edited by Nicoletta Pesaro and sponsored by the Department of Asian and North African Studies, aims to give voice to a time-honoured branch of theoretical and practical research across the disciplines and research domains within the Department. The series aims to establish a platform for scholarly discussion and a space for international dialogue on the translation of Asian and North African languages. In doing so, the project aims to observe and verify the translingual and transcultural dynamics triggered by translation from and into said ‘languages-cultures’, as well as to identify and explore the deep cultural mechanisms and structures involved in interethnic behaviours and relationships. Translation is also a major research tool in the humanities. As a matter of fact, a hermeneutic potential in terms of cultural mediation is inherent in translation activities and in the reflection on translation: it is precisely this potential that allows scholars, in both their research and dissemination work, to bring to the surface the interethnic and intercultural dynamics regulating the relationships between civilisations, both diachronically and synchronically. The project is a continuation and a development of the research carried out in recent years by the former Department of East Asian Studies – now Department of Asian and North African Studies – of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice through a series of initiatives organised by the research group on the translation of Asian languages “Laboratorio sulla Traduzione delle Lingue orientali” (Laboratori sulle lingue orientali). Such activities involved periodical meetings on translation, whose objective was to introduce and discuss specific issues in translation from and into Asian languages, as well as several international events (workshops, conferences, and symposia).

Abstract:
The first chapter lays out the “platform society” as a contested concept, embroidering on Airbnb as an example. The term refers to an emerging society in which social, economic, and interpersonal traffic is largely channeled by a global online platform ecosystem that is fueled by data and organized through algorithms. Platforms are defined and approached at three levels: the micro-level of individual platforms, the meso-level of the platform ecosystem, and the macro-level of platform geopolitics. The American-based ecosystem is mostly governed by five big tech companies (Alphabet-Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft) whose platform services are central to its overall design and the distribution of data flows. Besides the dominant tech companies, there are also state and civil society actors active in governing the platform society. The question is: who is or should be responsible for anchoring public values in societies that are increasingly organized through online systems?

Abstract:
More people today get news via Facebook and Google than via any news organization in history, and platforms like Twitter serve news to more people than all but the biggest media companies. This book draws on interviews and other data to analyze the platform power a few technology companies as a consequence have come to exercise in public life, the reservations publishers have about platforms—as well as the reasons why they often embrace them nonetheless. Most of the news content we rely on is still produced by journalists working for news organizations. But the way in which we discover it, how it is distributed, where decisions are made on what to display (and what not), and who profits from our behavior—all this is changing rapidly as people increasingly rely on social media, search engines, and aggregators offered by large platform companies to access news, and publishers in turn seek to reach people via the platforms they rely on. To understand the new, distinct relational and generative forms of power that platforms exercise, this book analyzes how they have evolved from the early days of Google’s first forays into news. Examining the different ways publishers have responded and how various platform companies have in turn handled the increasingly important and controversial role they play, it draws out the implications of a fundamental feature of our world we all need to understand: the news media are simultaneously empowered by and dependent on a few powerful private, for-profit technology companies.

Abstract:
Individuals all over the world can use Airbnb to rent an apartment in a foreign city, check Coursera to find a course on statistics, join PatientsLikeMe to exchange information about one’s disease, hail a cab using Uber, or read the news through Facebook’s Instant Articles. In The Platform Society, Van Dijck, Poell, and De Waal offer a comprehensive analysis of a connective world where platforms have penetrated the heart of societies—disrupting markets and labor relations, transforming social and civic practices, and affecting democratic processes. The Platform Society analyzes intense struggles between competing ideological systems and contesting societal actors—market, government, and civil society—asking who is or should be responsible for anchoring public values and the common good in a platform society. Public values include, of course, privacy, accuracy, safety, and security; but they also pertain to broader societal effects, such as fairness, accessibility, democratic control, and accountability. Such values are the very stakes in the struggle over the platformization of societies around the globe. The Platform Society highlights how these struggles play out in four private and public sectors: news, urban transport, health, and education. Some of these conflicts highlight local dimensions, for instance, fights over regulation between individual platforms and city councils, while others address the geopolitical level where power clashes between global markets and (supra-)national governments take place.

Abstract:
This chapter explores the gig economy’s entrepreneurship narrative, juxtaposing platforms’ promises of autonomy, freedom, and self-determination with the sobering reality of algorithmic control. Life as a ‘micro-entrepreneur’, it turns out, is heavily conditioned by ever-watchful rating algorithms, which aggregate customer feedback and compliance with platform guidelines to exercise close control. Failure to comply can have drastic results. Moreover, depending on consumer demand, the promised flexibility of on-demand work can quickly turn into economic insecurity, as gig income is highly unpredictable from week to week. The promise of freedom similarly rings hollow for many—not least because of carefully constructed contractual agreements that ban some gig workers from taking platforms to court. Instead of enjoying the spoils of successful entrepreneurship, a significant proportion of on-demand workers find themselves trapped in precarious, low-paid work.

Abstract:
This chapter critically reflects on the origins and developments of recent currents in academic literature dealing with technology-led urban development and planning. It shows, how planning ideas over the last 30 years have changed the mode of institutionalizing platforms within urban politics and planning. From smart to platform urbanism to platform municipalism, this contribution unveils the values, programmatic ideas, and policies that these different planning ideas incorporate. Using Vienna and Toronto as two examples of different institutionalization processes of platforms for urban planning agendas, the chapter embeds the concept of platform municipalism as a progressive approach to platform development into wider debates on smart and platform urbanism to look beyond a techno-dystopian vision of urban futures and carve out the scope for action for urban governance in the digital age.

Abstract:
Henk Wiechers discusses the relationship between the concept of glitch feminism and platform urbanism with a sectoral focus on mobility platforms. Looking for glitches in everyday workings of platforms is seen as a way to envision emancipatory potentials in these interactions. Here, mobility platforms serve as a fitting example, due to their manifold material and social interconnections between platforms and urban space. In three scenes deduced from autoethnographic field visits the author identifies three perspectives on how to investigate mobility platforms through the lens of the glitch and points out aspects where further research is needed.

The article critically reviews existing research around platform urbanism and discusses how the infrastructural character of platforms is analyzed. Going beyond this existing research, the authors sketch out a framework to understand how an infrastructuralization of platforms takes place vis-à-vis ongoing socio-spatial transformations akin to austerity urbanism. Furthermore, the authors propose a rethinking of technopolitical theorizations with a feminist perspective that takes the social-reproductive contradictions inherent to financialized capitalism as a central prism for a more nuanced understanding of platforms' business models. Empirically, the article looks at Airbnb and care platforms to understand how platforms leverages care gaps resulting from the dismantling of welfare state provision.

Digitalization of agriculture and the food sector is carried out on the basis of IT 2 platforms, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technology. Fragmented and unclear legal mechanisms, slow updating of legal regulation hinder the introduction of digital solutions. This article is dedicated to the Earth Remote Sensing (ERS), which the authors believe is a great way to teach geography and allows forming an idea of the actual geographic features and phenomena. One of the major problems that now constrains the active introduction of remote sensing data in the educational process is the low availability of training aerospace pictures, which meet didactic requirements. The article analyzes the main sources of ERS as a basis for educational resources formation with aerospace images: paper, various individual sources (personal stations receiving satellite information, drones, balloons, kites and balls) and Internet sources (mainstream sites, sites of scientific-technical organizations and distributors, interactive Internet geoservices, cloud platforms of geospatial analysis). The authors point out that their geospatial analysis platforms (Google Earth Engine, Land Viewer, EOS Platform, etc.), due to their unique features, are the basis for the creation of information thematic databases of ERS. The article presents an example of such a database, covering more than 800 aerospace images and dynamic models, which are combined according to such didactic principles as high information load and clarity.

Abstract:
Modern agricultural production and food trade are involved in the process of digital transformation, which is a cardinal factor of sustainable development and is carried out on the basis of IT platforms, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain technologies. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the dependence of these sectors of the economy on information and communication technology infrastructure and services. At the same time, the slow updating of legislation, which lags behind the constantly improving digital technologies, not only hinders their implementation, but also is a source of a number of social and legal problems. A modern regulatory framework based on digital strategies should strengthen "smart agriculture". In Russia, the legal mechanism of digital transformation and development of the national platform "Digital Agriculture" should be supported by updated basic legislation.

Abstract:
The article studies social media as a communication platform during the war. The set of mass communication tools to meet the audience’s information needs, coordination of volunteer activities, popularization of the volunteer movement, and involvement of the Internet community in helping the Armed Forces were analyzed. During the Russian-Ukrainian war, social media became the platform where the exchange of information takes place much faster; good analytics could be found quickly, which were pushed out of the information space. Also, social media have taken on the role of a platform where you can coordinate work, unite society around important issues, organize assistance to the army, and report on the needs of the Armed Forces. That is why the presentation of volunteering in social media is considered a relevant research topic because the presentation of volunteering in social networks has generally changed the content of blogging. Stars of show business, politicians, people of art, and educational and scientific fields have done incredible things with social media’s help in organizing military aid. We believe that the volunteer movement through social media has expanded the functions and role of these communication platforms, demonstrating the importance of Internet communication and the effectiveness of using the latest media tools in wartime. The historiography of the study covers the works of Ukrainian and foreign scientists. Among them are L. Horodenko, V. Hvozdiev, B. Potiatynyk, G. Synorub, A. Rohulskyi, D. Rashkoff, and others. The war situation in Ukraine has opened up new requests for blogging activities, exceptional support, and initiation of volunteering. The content of bloggers is now 80 percent filled with the topic of war. The presentation of volunteer work is considered individually and collectively on behalf of foundations and public organizations. We believe that a significant advantage of an active volunteer movement in social networks is fast communication, which contributes to the rapid resolution of crucial tasks. Keywords: social media, volunteering, information, war.

Abstract:
The amount of scientific information has been growing exponentially. It became more complicated to process and systemize this amount of unstructured data. The approach to systematization of scientific information based on the ontological IT platform Transdisciplinary Ontological Dialogs of Object-Oriented Systems (TODOS) has many benefits. It has been proposed to select semantic characteristics of each work for their further introduction into the IT platform TODOS. An ontological graph with a ranking function for previous scientific research and for a system of selection of journals has been worked out. These systems provide high performance of information management of scientific information.
