Abstract:
Social networking, through media such as Twitter and Facebook, is changing influence streams on consumer (customer) attitudes and behaviours. The direct and readily available consumer-to-consumer communication, made accessible through social networking, provides a repository of information from one's referent group, as well as an organisation's customer-facing facade. Therefore as connections among customers increase, the customers assume a higher degree of brand control at the expense of corporate marketing efforts to establish a specific brand image. This paper presents the results of interviews with four organisations that have created interactive marketing strategies built upon social networking. These companies are using social media and social networks to create online communities where they can leverage peer-to-peer network influence and use this influence to reinforce or increase a positive brand image.

Abstract:
Introduction: This research is inspired by numerous stimuli from accounting studies under both structuration and historical perspectives. Giddens' Structuration Theory based research calls for more investigations on the relationships between social structures and agents' actions in a specific time-space context. However, accounting historians addressed research to explore the accounting system in a non-profit organisation operating between the sacred and the profane. The study of the Society for the Preservation of the Christian Art Monuments in Pavia (1875-1908) has allowed fulfilling these gaps, considering the rich accounting sources available at the Civic Historical Archive of Pavia. Aim: Prior literature has addressed the research to explore if and how accounting was involved in the evolution of the preservation of the Christian art monuments in Pavia (1875-1908). Their origin referred to the earlier Company of Holy Rosary (1577) with the mission to conduct solemn celebrations, using sacred music, against the plagues. These research questions have been investigated to widen knowledge on the accounting history of non-profit organisations with a philanthropic and religious purpose. Methodological Approach: The research methodology is based on a longitudinal case study: The Society for the Preservation of the Christian Art Monuments in Pavia (1875-1908). Upon examination of the archival sources, a reconstruction of the history of the Society based on the contextual, and institutional and organisational changes as been attempted. The Structuration Theory has been adopted to interpret the accounting sources. Moreover, the synchronic approach has enabled the development of critical analysis, considering the trend of accounting knowledge during the period of this study. Main Findings: The research findings highlight the traits of continuity and changes in accounting with the contextual and institutional or organisational evolution of the Society. Accounting has contributed to the resilience and relevance of this organisation. The traits of changes, connected to the structural dimensions of accounting, enabled the accountability of information on the Society. This legitimised its philanthropic mission and strengthened the accounting domination, secularly than ecclesiastic. The research highlights how the double facade of accounting guaranteed the Society's resilience by fulfilling both technical and spiritual objectives during its long-existence. Originality: The Society for the Preservation of the Christian Art Monuments in Pavia has never been studied from the perspective of accounting history. This research bridges the gap in the history of the Society whose existence over the centuries has been questioned. From the Structuration Theory perspective, the study's contribution to exploring the structural dimensions of accounting is still under-investigated also within the field of accounting history. Finally, the research findings open a new stream of historical investigation about accounting and resilience within non-profit organizations and in other settings.

Abstract:
The location of the entrance and its relation to the main functional apartment groups in multi-storey, multi-family buildings, is to a great extent determined by the organizational concept of the apartment. The apartments with auxiliary entrances are less present in practice, majority of apartments fit the spatial frame of the building itself. The apartments can border with the next apartment on the same floor, be oriented towards one or more facades, but what is of key importance in determining the number of apartment entrances and their positioning is the size of contact zone between the apartment and common communication areas, as well as the configuration of the apartment. The aims of this paper include the analysis of the main positions of the entrance and the concepts of apartment organization that they determine, analysis of characteristic concepts of two-entrance apartments in multi-storey, multi-family buildings and re-examination of the relation between the introduction of the additional entrance and the necessity of having constant or occasional segregation of certain activities in them.

Abstract:
National Sawdust opened in October 2015, and behind its brick facade in Brooklyn a promising venue for new music was unveiled, overseen by composers, creators and visionaries. Splotched in haphazard polygons and neon tubes, the modest space offers an intimate environment for a new generation of artists to showcase their work. The venue's name comes from the sawdust factory that once occupied the century-old building at 80 North 6th street, and which its governing non-profit organisation raised over $16 million to bring to life. The building was designed by Bureau V architects and the acoustic consultants from Arup, who made some critical decisions, such as placing the building on over 1,000 metal springs to absorb the shock from the subway trains running nearby. Advised by a board whose members include Philip Glass, Renée Fleming and Laurie Anderson, composer and entrepreneur Paola Prestini helms the organisation.

Abstract:
Conviviality means living happily together in the company of each other. A convivial public open space represents a healthy society. The qualities of the built environment surrounding a public open space can play an important role to make it friendly, sociable or convivial. This paper aims to investigate the conviviality of public open spaces with reference to visual aesthetics of the built environment around them. For this investigation, a perception survey has been carried out to examine the users’ perception of conviviality and built environment qualities of selected eight public open spaces in new market, Bhopal. The data gathered are analysed using the correlation between perception of built environment qualities (aesthetics, legibility and walkability) and supporting variables of conviviality. Aesthetics of a typical building facade in two public open spaces has been objectively measured apart from public perception. The objective measurement will help to rationalise the public perception of aesthetics. The objective measurement is based on the Gestalt law of visual organisation for evaluating visual aesthetics of a building facade using order and complexity. This study will help urban designers and planners to understand the role of aesthetics in creating convivial public open spaces.

Abstract:
The International Standards Organisation (ISO) is currently developing a standard by which the frequency dependent values of the sound absorption coefficient of building materials can be expressed as a single number rating. This paper describes the new rating procedure and relates it to measurement techniques currently employed. The practical implications are discussed and some examples of results presented. The new rating procedure was tested on various brickwork to be employed for building facades. Some of them were variants of common products, only differing in surface roughness; others were of new material not yet commercially available. Modifications to the production process allowed bricks with a perforated surface to be measured where the depth and the width of the holes could be varied to give a strong reactive absorption at various frequencies. The measurements were performed in an impedance tube, using both the conventional pure-tone technique and a variant of the transfer-function method, which is also described.

Abstract:
Ceramic panels produced since 1960 in the “Kamionka” cooperative in Łysa Góra are one of the most versatile materials used for architectural decorations. They made it possible to create small “ceramic accents” as well as large-scale and monumental works. Compositions made of Łysa Góra panels, at first found mainly in secular buildings, started to appear in church architecture from the mid-1960s. The earliest was the cladding on the facade of the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Piaseczno by Krzysztof Henisz in 1965. The article presents realisations found in Polish and foreign churches. Most of the discussed compositions were created in the period when new rules of organisation resulting from the recommendations of the Second Vatican Council were introduced into church interiors. This important theme is also highlighted in the article. The last mentioned work – the altar wall in Harmęże by Anna Praxmayer – was created in the 21st century, just before the definitive demise of the factory in Łysa Góra.

Abstract:
Governance concerns have been in facade of society both in South Africa and in the rest of the world. These concerns have been raised at various levels such as public sector, private sector, and even within sports and recreation. The South African media have also heightened the exposure of incidents whenever gross violation of good governance principles occurred. The sport fraternity, particularly football, is not immune to this scourge. In the South African context, very little research has been done to look into the governance trajectories concerning sports organisations. As a result, this paper will consider how the Gauteng football clubs that are affiliated with the South African Football Association (SAFA) perceive issues of governance and those that concern social responsibility. Qualitative data in a form of semi-structured interviews was used. A total of 12 executive managers participated in the study. Atlas ti was used to analyse data deductively. The findings seem to suggest that the clubs are aware and supportive of good governance principles, ethics and issues of social responsibility. Calls are made to SAFA and its structures, government and the corporate sector to instil good governance principles and support social initiatives within their surroundings. Moreover, families and communities were encouraged to raise the bar in terms of improving the moral capital of society.

"Environmental Noise around Hospital Areas: A Case Study." Environments 6, no. 4 (April 1, 2019): 41. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/environments6040041.

Full text
Abstract:
Due to the particular characteristics of hospitals, these buildings are highly sensitive to environmental noise. However, they are usually located close or within urban agglomerations. Hence, hospitals are, in many cases, exposed to high levels of environmental noise. A study of one of the main hospitals in the Extremadura region (Spain) is presented here to allow a global assessment of the acoustic impact of outdoor sound sources. Both long- and short-term measurements were carried out, and a software model was developed. The measured values exceed the World Health Organisation reference value of 50 dBA for daytime and evening, and are even higher than the 55 dBA limit at which severe annoyance is generated. Taking into account the results obtained, the noise impact on this hospital is primarily influenced by three sound sources: road traffic, cooling towers of the hospital and the emergency helicopter. Their relative importance depends on the facade under consideration. It can therefore be concluded that the overall situation of the hospital needs to be improved. Thus, a series of solutions are proposed for a possible action plan based on interventions regarding the main sound sources and the location of the most sensitive areas to environmental noise.

Abstract:
The Matta Sur neighbourhood in Santiago acquired official protection for its heritage value in 2016. It is the largest protected area in the city and one of the few in which vernacular architecture, local lifestyles and community networks withstand the city's rapid urban development. It has a regular urban structure of wide streets framed by continuous facades, which predominantly belong to one-storey homes, organised around a central courtyard. They are built combining burnt or raw masonry and wood and earth traditional building systems, which are now discontinued and often misunderstood, leading to poor interventions which deteriorate the quality of buildings and liveable spaces. The Heritage and Community Centre Project attends the need for comprehensive interventions to approach appropriate conservation of Matta Sur under these circumstances. This project aims, on one hand, to provide a suitable community space within the neighbourhood and, on the other, to set an example for appropriate intervention, management and maintenance of the vernacular constructions in the neighbourhood. All of the process is developed through community-based design and intervention, attending to the role of community organisations in Chile, which have been traditionally responsible for filling the gap between public policies and community wellbeing, particularly in urban contexts, through strong solidarity networks. Through a process of co-design and co-management, the project aims to refurbish a traditional house of the neighbourhood into a community centre in which various community initiatives converge and which allows for these solidarity networks to keep functioning in a contemporary context.
