Au milieu du 19e siècle, en rupture avec les théories des aliénistes tels que Pinel et Esquirol, a émergé l’idée que la folie serait le signe de la décadence d’une civilisation corrompue par la modernité. Certaines théories ethnopsychiatriques, étudiant les troubles mentaux au sein d’un milieu culturel donné, s’opposent à la conception hippocratique d’une folie endogène (Folie-Maladie) en réaffirmant les conceptions exogènes (Folie-Sacré), décrites de façon similaire sous nos latitudes au Moyen-Âge chrétien. À l’image de Devereux, certaines figures de l’ethnopsychiatrie, sous l’influence conjointe de la psychanalyse et du structuralisme, prendront comme acquis fondamental l’idée relativiste selon laquelle l’interprétation du symptôme serait plus importante que le symptôme lui-même, la culture et le symbolique occultant quasiment le biologique. Devereux élaborera dans cette optique une théorie socioculturelle de la schizophrénie qu’il considérera comme le désordre ethnique caractéristique de la société occidentale dysfonctionnelle. Pour lui, ce trouble mental serait absent des sociétés authentiquement primitives et n’apparaîtrait en leur sein que suite aux processus d’acculturation qu’elles subissent [1]. Dans le sillage de cette pensée, Tobie Nathan développera quant à lui une théorie sociale et culturelle de la Folie [2]. Faisant fi des connaissances scientifiques au profit de la cosmogonie traditionnelle, il suppose que les populations étrangères n’auraient pas la même façon de penser le sujet et l’inconscient psychique, rendant toute théorie psychiatrique, neurodéveloppementale comme psychanalytique, inutilisable. En cherchant systématiquement des symboliques différentes à toute anomalie clinique, ce courant de l’ethnopsychiatrie tombe souvent dans la surinterprétation culturaliste. Nous questionnerons enfin l’idée que cet aspect de la pensée ethnopsychiatrique, en s’appuyant sur la culpabilité occidentale issue de la colonisation, répondrait au besoin de l’« Homme blanc » de réparer la faute dont on l’accuse, celle d’avoir souillé de façon indélébile la pureté originelle fantasmée des sociétés traditionnelles et d’y avoir importé jusqu’aux pathologies psychiatriques les plus graves

Cet article passe en revue les multiples applications de la théorie des groupes aux problèmes de symétrie en physique. En physique classique, il s’agit surtout de la relativité : euclidienne, galiléenne, einsteinienne (relativité restreinte). Passant à la mécanique quantique, on remarque d’abord que les principes de base impliquent que l’espace des états d’un système quantique a une structure intrinsèque d’espace préhilbertien, que l’on complète ensuite en un espace de Hilbert. Dans ce contexte, la description de l’invariance sous un groupe G se base sur une représentation unitaire de G. On parcourt ensuite les différents domaines d’application : physique atomique et moléculaire, matière condensée, optique quantique, ondelettes, symétries internes, symétries approchées. On discute ensuite l’extension aux théories de jauge, en particulier au Modèle Standard des interactions fondamentales. On conclut par quelques indications sur des développements récents. * * * The present article reviews the multiple applications of group theory to the symmetry problems in physics. In classical physics, this concerns primarily relativity : Euclidean, Galilean, Einsteinian (special). Going over to quantum mechanics, we first note that the basic principles imply that the state space of a quantum system has an intrinsic structure of pre-Hilbert space, that one completes into a genuine Hilbert space. In this framework, the description of the invariance under a group G is based on a unitary representation of G. Next we survey the various domains of application : atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter physics, quantum optics, wavelets, internal symmetries, approximate symmetries. Next we discuss the extension to gauge theories, in particular to the Standard Model of fundamental interactions. We conclude with some remarks about recent developments.

On the margin of the general problematic of the «synthesis of Arts» , the problem of vision definitely deserves particular attention in the framework of Silver Age studies. It is certainly possible to relate the painter Mixail Matjušin’s works on the «enlarged vision» to those by Jules Romain on the «extra-retinian vision» , and their further elaboration in the works by René Daumal. This constant interest, in France as well as in Russia (and certainly elsewhere) towards the functioning of the eye and its impact on the artistic creation is to be placed in a larger context of the 19th century scientific discoveries in optics, the works on the 4th dimension, and, finally, the theory of relativity. The objective of this article is to show how these purely scientific discoveries influenced artistic research and provided, at least partially, the theoretical foundation for it, even when the resulting theory itself gradually became fanciful, or at least unscientific. In a similar fashion, it is possible to relate the physiological notion of «peripheral vision» (Helmholtz) to the «enlarged vision» (Matjušin) and, a posteriori, to the discovery of abstraction. Furthermore, this problematic does not concern exclusively painting : vision theories have also had an important impact on poetry, which can be demonstrated by the experiments of Aleksandr Tufanov in the 1920s which followed the works by Matjušin or by the research of Daumal in the same years, which followed the works by Romain. All these elements allow to establish, in line with Arthur Rimbaud’s famous «Letter of the Clairvoyant» , a certain rapprochement of this problematic with the enthusiasm of certain representatives of the Silver Age for the phenomenon of clairvoyance.

The Weibel instability is investigated using relativistic intense short laser pulses. A relativistic short laser pulse can generate a sub-relativistic high-density collisionless plasma. By irradiating double parallel planar targets with two relativistic laser pulses, sub-relativistic collisionless counterstreaming plasmas are created. Since the growth rate of the Weibel instability is proportional to the plasma density and velocity, the spatial and temporal scales of the Weibel instability can be much smaller than that from nanosecond large laser facilities. Recent theoretical and numerical studies have revealed that astrophysical collisionless shocks in sub-relativistic regimes in the absence and presence of an ambient magnetic field play essential roles in cosmic ray acceleration. With experimental verification in mind, we discuss the possible experimental models on the Weibel instability with intense short laser pulses. In order to show the experimental feasibility, we perform 2D particle-in-cell simulations in the absence of an external magnetic field as the first step and discuss the optimum conditions to realize the nonlinear evolutions of the Weibel instability in laboratories.

We have studied the comparative importance of the relativistic beaming model (RBM) and the density variation model (DVM) in our understanding of asymmetries in double radio sources, using their lobe separation ratio (Q) and flux density ratio (F). Our result shows an F − Q correlation in the sense expected for the RBM but contrary to the DVM. We attributed the result for the DVM to varying beam power, as its efficiency is density profile-dependent. From the coredominant parameter-linear size R − D relation for the RBM subsample, we found that sources in this subsample are beamed within an optimum cone angle Phi_c≈8°. We posit that relativistic beaming is largely accountable for the observed structural asymmetries in radio sources, though other effects cannot be ruled out.

AbstractExperimental data are presented showing maximum carbon C6+ ion energies obtained from nm-scaled targets in the relativistic transparent regime for laser intensities between 9 × 1019 and 2 × 1021 W/cm2. When combined with two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations, these results show a steep linear scaling for carbon ions with the normalized laser amplitude a0 ($a_0 \propto \sqrt ( I)$). The results are in good agreement with a semi-analytic model that allows one to calculate the optimum thickness and the maximum ion energies as functions of a0 and the laser pulse duration τλ for ion acceleration in the relativistic-induced transparency regime. Following our results, ion energies exceeding 100 MeV/amu may be accessible with currently available laser systems.

AbstractGaia is ESA's upcoming astrometry mission, building on the heritage of its predecessor, Hipparcos. The Gaia nominal scanning law (NSL) prescribes the ideal attitude of the spacecraft over the operational phase of the mission. As such, it precisely determines when certain areas of the sky are observed. From theoretical considerations on sky-sampling uniformity, it is easy to show that the optimum scanning law for a space astrometry experiment like Gaia is a revolving scan with uniform rotation around the instrument symmetry axis. Since thermal stability requirements for Gaia's payload require the solar aspect angle to be fixed, the optimum parallax resolving power is obtained by letting the spin axis precess around the solar direction. The precession speed has been selected as compromise, limiting the across-scan smearing of images when they transit the focal plane, providing sufficient overlap between successive “great-circle” scans of the fields of view, and guaranteeing overlap of successive precession loops. With this scanning law, with fixed solar-aspect angle, spin rate, and precession speed, only two free parameters remain: the initial spin phase and the initial precession angle, at the start of science operations. Both angles, and in particular the initial precession angle, can be initialized following various (programmatic) criteria. Examples are optimization/fine-tuning of the Earth-pointing angle, of the number and total duration of Galactic-plane scans, or of the ground-station scheduling. This paper explores various criteria, with particular emphasis on the opportunity to optimise the scanning-law initial conditions to “observe” the most favorable passages of bright stars very close to Jupiter's limb. This would allow a unique determination of the light deflection due to the quadrupole component of the gravitational field of this planet.

Cette thèse expérimentale s’est essentiellement déroulée au Laboratoire d’Optique Appliquée à Palaiseau (France), sur un système laser capable de générer des impulsions proches du cycle optique en durée avec des énergies de plusieurs mJ à une cadence de 1 kHz : la Salle Noire 2. Ce système laser Titane:Sapphire est double CPA avec un filtre non-linéaire entre les deux étages (basé sur la génération d’onde de polarisation croisée ou ‘XPW’) pour améliorer le contraste temporel, suivi d’un étage de post-compression dans une fibre flexible étirée à cœur creux. Grâce à ce système, nous étudions l’interaction laser-matière en régime relativiste à haute cadence. Nous parvenons, d’une part, dans des jets de gaz, à accélérer des électrons dans le sillage du laser jusqu’ à une énergie de quelques MeV; et d’autre part, par interaction avec des miroirs plasma, à générer des harmoniques d’ordres élevés qui sont associées dans le domaine temporel à des impulsions attosecondes. Malgré la prouesse technique de ces expériences, les propriétés des faisceaux XUV et d’électrons ainsi générés restent encore peu compatibles avec des applications phares en aval. À la suite de travaux précédents en Salle Noire 2, l’objectif de cette thèse était d’obtenir des faisceaux aux propriétés stables, ce qui a été accompli en rendant le système laser plus stable et fiable, ainsi qu’en implémentant une boucle de contrôle rapide de la phase enveloppe-porteuse des impulsions laser. En variant la phase enveloppe-porteuse, nous avons ainsi pu générer des impulsions attosecondes uniques en formant une porte temporelle d’intensité relativiste à la surface du miroir plasma, et aussi produire des faisceaux d’électrons stables en énergie et en direction, en contrôlant l’injection d’ électrons dans l’accélérateur laser-plasma. De plus, différents régime d’interaction avec les miroirs plasma ont été étudiés expérimentalement, tels que l’accélération d’électrons dans les longs gr adients de densité plasma, et l’accélération de protons en face avant de la cible (la face sur laquelle le laser est incident) le long de la direction normale à la cible, afin de mesurer de nouvelles observables (spectre d’énergie des électrons, divergence des faisceaux de protons) et ainsi mieux comprendre la dynamique d’interaction laser-plasma<br>This experimental thesis was essentially conducted at Laboratoire d’Optique Appliquée in Palaiseau (France), on a laser system capable of delivering near-single-cycle duration pulses containing a few mJ of energy at 1kHz repetition rate: the Salle Noire 2. This laser is a Titanium:Sapphire double CPA system with a nonlinear filter in between (based on the crossed polarized wave generation effect) for temporal contrast enhancement, followed by a stretched-flexible hollow-core-fiber based post-compression stage. Using this system, we study laser-matter interaction in the relativistic regime at high repetition rate. We can, on one hand, in gas jets, accelerate electrons in the wakefield of the laser up to several MeVs; and on the other hand, by interacting with plasma mirrors, generate high order harmonics which are associated to bright attosecond pulses in the time domain. Despite the technological prowess in these experiments, the properties of the XUV and electron beams thus generated remain scarcely compatible with the main applications downstream. Following up on previous works in Salle Noire 2, the objective of this thesis was to obtain beams with stable properties, which was achieved by making the laser system more stable and reliable, as well as implementing a fast carrier-envelope phase control loop. By varying the carrier-envelope phase of the laser pulses, we could generate XUV continua/isolated attosecond pulses by forming a relativistic-intensity temporal gate at the surface of the plasma mirror, and also produce electron beams exhibiting stable energy and angle of emission, by controlling the electron injection within the plasma accelerator. Additionally, different regimes of interaction with plasma mirrors were experimentally investigated, such as wakefield acceleration of electrons in long plasma density gradients, and the acceleration of protons on the target’s front side (onto which the laser impinges) along the target no rmal direction, in order to measure new observables (electron energy spectra, proton beam divergence) and thus gain deeper insights into the laser-plasma dynamics

L'interaction laser-plasma à très haute intensité (I " 1015 W/cm2) avec des impulsions ultra-courtes ( t " 100 fs) est un domaine en plein essor car il offre l'opportunité d'étudier des phénomènes physiques toujours plus brefs, regroupés sous l'appellation " science attoseconde ". L'interaction laser-plasma promet aussi l'avènement de nouvelles sources pour la génération de faisceaux de particules et de rayonnement X très énergétiques. Notre démarche se concentre sur la génération d'impulsions attosecondes sur miroir plasma à partir d'impulsions de quelques cycles optiques ( 5 fs à 800 nm), à haut taux de répétition (1 kHz) et avec un contrôle fin des paramètres laser. La génération et le contrôle temporel et spatial de l'émission d'harmoniques d'ordres élevés dans le régime non-relativiste ont récemment été démontrés par le groupe. L'objectif suivant est d'atteindre le régime relativiste, qui nécessite une intensité sur cible plus élevée. Ce travail de thèse s'inscrit donc dans la logique d'améliorer les performances de la chaine existante en termes d'énergie et de contraste temporel, tout en préservant les autres paramètres clés. Pour répondre à ces défis, l'objectif a été de mettre au point une architecture laser basée sur l'amplification à dérive de fréquence (CPA) délivrant des impulsions de 5 mJ, 5 fs à 1 kHz, avec un contraste temporel C = 1011 et une phase absolue (CEP) stabilisée à 200 mrad rms. La problématique de l'amélioration du contraste par la technique de génération de polarisation croisée (XPW) occupe une place centrale dans ce mémoire. Une étude extensive du mécanisme XPW a été menée. Elle a permis de confronter résultats expérimentaux et développements théoriques dans les régimes dits " extrêmes " tels que la génération à très haut rendement et le filtrage d'impulsions de quelques cycles optiques. En outre, un nouveau schéma de filtrage adaptable sur une large gamme d'énergie (de 100 μJ à 10 mJ) et efficace (20%) a été réalisé. La compression des impulsions d'un facteur supérieur à deux avec ce schéma a également été démontrée. La nouvelle chaine laser inclut un tel filtre dans une configuration en double CPA dont les performances finales visées sont les suivantes : 10 mJ, 20 fs, C = 1011 et CEP = 200 mrad rms. Le schéma d'étirement/compression a fait l'objet d'une étude détaillée pour permettre un étirement élevé (50 ps) tout en restant compact pour préserver la stabilité CEP. La configuration adoptée consiste en un étireur verre, un filtre acousto-optique dispersif programmable et un compresseur "grismes". Le mémoire présente enfin les perspectives de post-compression dans une fibre creuse remplie d'un gaz rare pour obtenir des impulsions de 5 mJ, 5 fs, C = 1011, CEP = 200 mrad rms à 1 kHz.

Ce mémoire de HDR résume les dix dernières années de recherche effectuée au Laboratoire d'Optique Appliquée sur l'accélération d'électrons par interaction laser-plasma. Les résultats principaux sont l'obtention d'une source d'électrons relativiste (100-300 MeV), mono-énergétique, ultracourte (quelques fs), compacte (quelques millimètres), stable et réglable. Le manuscrit décrit les étapes qui ont permis d'élucider la physique en jeu puis de la maîtriser, ce qui a finalement abouti à la génération de cette nouvelle source. Les aspects de propagation non linéaire de l'impulsion laser dans un plasma sous-dense sont tout d'abord traités: la création d'onde de sillage linéaire et non linéaire, l'auto-focalisation relativiste et pondéromotrice d'impulsions courtes et intenses, l'auto-compression dans les ondes plasmas. Puis l'accélération et l'injection des électrons dans les ondes de sillage est rappelée d'un point de vue théorique. La démonstration expérimentale de l'injection des électrons dans le régime de la bulle et/ou par collision de deux impulsions laser est ensuite développée. Ces expériences ont été parmi les premières à permettre l'obtention de faisceaux mono-énergétiques de bonne qualité dans un premier temps, et stable et réglable dans un deuxième temps. Les deux derniers chapitres sont consacrés aux diagnostics du faisceau d'électrons par rayonnement de transition puis aux applications en radiographie gamma et radiothérapie. Finalement les perspectives de cette recherche sont présentées en conclusion. En particulier, on s'est intéressé aux paramètres atteignables sur les lasers petawatt en cours de construction.

Ce travaille de maîtrise comporte deux sujets distincts. Le premier porte sur une nouvelle solution au paradoxe des jumeaux d’Einstein. Plusieurs personnes ont tenté de trouver des solutions à ce paradoxe mais sans grand succès. Dans ce mémoire nous vous présenterons une nouvelle solution basée sur l’approche diachronique développé par Mr Michel Duguay dans son document intitulé Diachronie représentation of spacetime applied to problems in spécial relativity and in quantum optics. Tout d’abords nous ferons un rappel de ce qu’est la relativité restreinte, ensuite nous présenterons l’origine du paradoxe des jumeaux et quelques solutions proposées par d’éminents physiciens. Enfin il serait question des notions diachroniques et de la méthodologie à suivre afin de bien résoudre ce paradoxe. Au niveau pédagogique, nous présenterons des animations en flash et java qui permettront de mieux assimiler ces notions diachroniques. Le second sujet porte sur l’intégration à des circuits de lasers semiconducteurs, des amplificateurs optiques à base de semiconducteur. Le circuit de laser semiconducteur utilisé dans ce mémoire n’est autre qu’un guide d’onde effilé précédemment étudié par Mr Baribeau dans le cadre de la compensation de la dispersion chromatique. Nous utiliserons le même principe de base qui est la conversion adiabatique de mode dans un guide d’onde plan comprenant une paroi d’épaisseur variable pour pouvoir amplifier notre signal à l’aide de puit quantique. En premier lieu nous ferons des calculs et simulations nous permettant d’analyser la propagation d’un signal à l’intérieur d’un guide ensuite nous étudierons l’influence de l’intégration de puit quantique à ce guide d’onde.<br>Québec Université Laval, Bibliothèque 2019

Ce travail de thèse s'intéresse aux corrections relativistes induites par une impulsion lumineuse ultra-brève et intense dans la matière condensée. Il s'inscrit dans la thématique nouvelle de la désaimantation ultra-rapide cohérente de systèmes ferromagnétiques induite par une impulsion laser femto-seconde [Nature 5, 515 (2009)] [1]. Un couplage de nature relativiste entre les spins et les photons a été proposé pour expliquer les résultats expérimentaux observés dans [1]. La première partie de ce travail étudie la limite non relativiste du formalisme de Dirac en présence d'un champ électromagnétique dépendant du temps. En utilisant la transformation de Foldy-Wouthuysen , le hamiltonien électronique de Dirac en présence d'un champ électromagnétique dépendant du temps est développé au cinquième ordre en 1/m. Les résultats obtenus ont permis de postuler une expression générale de l'interaction directe entre le spin et le champ électromagnétique sous la forme d'un développement en série entière. Un travail similaire est réalisé dans le cadre du problème relativiste à deux électrons en interaction coulombienne. La diagonalisation du hamiltonien de Breit au troisième ordre en 1/m fait apparaître une interaction singulière entre le spin, le champ coulombien et le champ électromagnétique externe dépendant du temps. Dans la deuxième partie, on propose un modèle classique pour modéliser une expérience de magnéto-optique non-linéaire réalisée sur des échantillons ferromagnétiques. Les prédictions théoriques des angles de rotation Faraday sont comparées aux résultats expérimentaux de la référence [1] et permettent d'ouvrir une discussion à propos des mécanismes physiques gouvernant les phénomènes magnéto-optiques observés. Le rôle joué par l'interaction spin-orbite entre les spins et le champ électrique du laser est discuté.

Pour générer des faisceaux d'électrons à hautes énergies, les accélérateurs conventionnels utilisent des ondes radiofréquences pour accélérer des particules chargées à des vitesses relativistes. Cependant, le champ électrique accélérateur produit est limité à quelques dizaines de mégavolts par mètre, dû notamment à un phénomène de claquage. Il faut donc des installations de très grande taille pour atteindre des énergies suffisamment élevées. Ainsi, l'accélérateur linéaire de Stanford (SLAC), qui est l'accélérateur linéaire le plus long au monde, accélère des électrons jusqu'à 50GeV sur 3.2km. Les accélérateurs laser-plasma peuvent produire des champs électriques dépassant 100 GV/m, soit environ trois ordres de grandeur plus grands que ceux obtenus par les accélérateurs à cavités radiofréquences. Ils pourraient ainsi permettre une diminution drastique de la taille des accélérateurs pour des applications scientifiques, médicales et industrielles. Cependant, plusieurs verrous devront être levés avant que ces applications puissent voir le jour. Il sera notamment nécessaire de démontrer la production efficace de faisceaux d'électrons de haute qualité, à des énergies de plusieurs GeV et à un taux de répétition élevé.Le projet doctoral s’attaque à cette problématique en explorant de nouvelles méthodes pour augmenter l'énergie des faisceaux d'électrons grâce à des techniques qui sont compatibles avec des puissances laser et des taux de répétition élevés et qui peuvent être alliées avec des méthodes d'injection contrôlée. En effet, des faisceaux d'électrons à haute énergie ou avec une injection contrôlée ont été obtenus séparément durant les quinze dernières années, mais jamais de manière combinée. Cette thèse présente les travaux réalisés sur les techniques de guidage ainsi que sur celles d'injection des électrons qui ont permis d'obtenir expérimentalement des faisceaux de bonne qualité à hautes énergies. Ce travail s'est fait notamment au travers de l'optimisation d'une optique nouvellement conçue au Laboratoire d'Optique Appliquée, l'axiparabole, ainsi que sur le développement de jets de gaz spécifiques à l'accélération laser-plasma<br>To generate high energy electron beams, conventional accelerators use radio frequency waves to accelerate charged particles to relativistic speeds. However, the accelerating electric field produced is limited to a few tens of megavolts per metre, mainly due to a breakdown phenomenon. Very large facilities are therefore needed to reach sufficiently high energies. For example, the Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC), which is the world's longest linear accelerator, accelerates electrons up to 50 GeV over a distance of 3.2 km. Laser-Plasma Accelerators can produce electric fields exceeding 100 GV/m, that are about three orders of magnitude larger than those obtained by radiofrequency-cavity accelerators. They could thus allow for a drastic decrease of the size of accelerators for scientific, medical and industrial applications. Yet, several bottlenecks have to be solved before these applications can be really implemented. It is notably necessary to demonstrate the efficient production of high-quality, multi-GeV electron beams at a high-repetition rate.The doctoral project tackles this problem by exploring new methods for increasing the energy of the electron beams thanks to techniques that are compatibles with arbitrarily high laser powers and repetition rates and that can be combined with controlled injection methods. Indeed, high energy or controlled injection electron beams have been obtained separately during the last fifteen years, but never combined. This thesis presents the work carried out on the guiding techniques as well as on the electron injection techniques which allowed to obtain experimentally good quality beams at high energies. This work was done in particular through the optimisation of a new optic designed at the Laboratoire d'Optique Appliquée, the axiparabola, as well as the development of gas jets specific to laser-plasma acceleration

Le travail expérimental présenté dans ce manuscrit a été réalisé au Laboratoire d'Optique Appliquée (LOA, Palaiseau, France) sur un système laser compact multi-mJ kHz, capable de délivrer des impulsions quasi-mono-cycle à phase enveloppe-porteuse (CEP) stabilisée. Le premier volet expérimental a consisté à améliorer les performances de la source laser grâce à l’intégration d'un étage d’amplification multi-passage cryogéné dans la chaîne destiné à augmenter l'énergie d'impulsion disponible, à améliorer la stabilité de la CEP, ainsi qu’à fiabiliser les performances quotidiennes du laser. En parallèle, une nouvelle technique a été testée, basée sur la propagation nonlinéaire dans une cellule multi-passage (MPC), afin de post-comprimer temporellement et d’améliorer le contraste temporel des impulsions laser. Dans l’avenir, une fois mis à l’échelle et intégré dans la chaîne laser, ce dispositif innovant de mise en forme temporelle d’impulsions laser, augmenter encore plus l’éclairement atteignable pour les expériences.Le deuxième volet expérimental est axé sur l'utilisation de la chaîne laser afin de piloter des miroirs plasma relativistes et de générer du rayonnement attoseconde (1 as = 10-18 s) dans le domaine spectral de l’ultraviolet extrême, ainsi que des faisceaux d’électrons et d’ions fortement énergétiques. Nous avons pu produire des faisceaux d'électrons relativistes par injection localisée d’électrons du plasma dans le champ laser réfléchi de manière nonlinéaire par le miroir plasma. En outre, nous avons pu générer des faisceaux quasi-collimatés de protons avec des énergies proches du MeV dans le cadre d’une expérience pompe-sonde contrôlée. En stabilisant la forme d'onde des impulsions laser, nous avons pu restreindre temporellement le processus de génération d’harmoniques en-dessous du cycle laser et ainsi produire des impulsions attoseconde uniques. Nous avons réalisé une étude paramétrique complète afin d'optimiser les propriétés spatio-temporelles des impulsions attosecondes XUV ainsi émises, jetant ainsi les bases de leur refocalisation pour les applications<br>The experimental work presented in this manuscript was carried out at Laboratoire d’Optique Appliquée (LOA, Palaiseau, France) on a compact kHz multi-mJ energy laser system capable of delivering waveform-controlled near-single-cycle pulses. The first part of this work is focused on improving the performance of this laser source by integrating a cryogenically-cooled multi-pass amplifier in the laser chain in order to increase the output energy, enhance the laser waveform stability, making the laser source more stable and reliable, and with more overall reproducible day-to-day performance. Furthermore, we explore laser post-compression and temporal contrast enhancement in a multipass cell. In the future, this post-compression scheme when power-scaled and integrated into the laser chain will further enhance the focused pulse intensity for experiments.The second part of this work focuses on using the laser system to drive relativistic plasma mirrors on the surface of initially-solid targets to generate highly energetic particle beams (ions and electrons) and harmonic radiation in the extreme ultraviolet region, corresponding to attosecond pulses (1 as = 10-18 s) in the time domain. We could produce relativistic electron beams by localized injection of electrons into the nonlinearly reflected laser field by the plasma mirror. Additionally, we could generate nearly-collimated MeV-class proton beams in a controlled pump-probe experiment. By stabilizing the waveform of the driving laser pulses, we could temporally gate the interaction process on the target surface and produce isolated attosecond pulses. We performed a comprehensive parameter study to fully characterize and optimize the spatio-spectral properties of the emitted XUV attosecond pulses, laying the groundwork for their refocusing for applications

In this addendum, which was the basis for an article published at the network conference 2021, we discuss a mathematical description of a network field. We describe the exchange of capital between objects in a team which we call a network. We make the assumption that exchanging capital between the actors in the field is the same as exchanging kinetic and potential energy. In our model, we use three types of capital: financial, human, and social to represent the qualifications of an object. By analogy, a non-relativistic gravitational field can be described by a time dependent Kinetic Energy part minus a position-dependent Potential Energy part. Here we describe a non-relativistic network field as Lagrangian with a time-dependent Financial Capital part minus a relative position-dependent Potential energy part. The description of the network field and especially the potential energy for a certain area in the field is comparable to the description of a Graph Neural Network for a set of nodes, a concept from deep learning theory. We use the Graph Neural Network to analyze the effects of exchanging potential energy in a network. We also use it to calculate the optimum distribution of qualifications of the actors in a team.

Abstract The methylene molecule CH2 is one of those simple species with a long history in the development of quantum chemistry. First observed experimentally in 1959 by Herzberg and Shoosmitha it was the object of an especially important near-SCF study by Foster and Boysb predicting (correctly) the ground state to be the triplet 3 B1 with a bond angle of about 129°. Shortly thereafter, Herzberg concluded the molecule in the 3B1 state was linear, but eventually experiments by others, as well as higher level calculations, showed Foster and Boys to be correct.c The singlet-triplet splitting (singlet energy minus triplet energy), initially thought to be about 2 kcal/mole from experiment and about 30 kcal/mol from theory, is now known to be 9-11 kcal/mole. The fixed-node calculations of Reynolds et al. were carried out for optimum geometries indicated by analytic variational calculations, and they gave energies more than 15 kcal/mole below the lowest energy variational calculations available at the time. The trial functions for node location and importance sampling were single-determinant double-zeta functions with optimized Jastrow terms. The QMC result for singlet-triplet splitting, obtained by subtracting energies, is 9.4 ± 2.2 kcal/mole. With allowance for the zero-point energy and relativistic effects the splitting becomes 8.9 ± 2.2 kcal/mole. These are in very good agreement with very recent theoretical and experimental values. This substantial cancellation of node-location error for these two similar systems occurs in the same way as expected for the somewhat larger errors in analytic variational calculations for similar systems.

The Klein–Gordon equation for spinless particles, as well as the Weyl–Pauli and Dirac equations for particles with spin, may be derived from one information-theoretic principle. Consider a gedanken experiment whereby the mean position of a particle in a central force field is to be estimated by means of one position measurement. An efficient (optimum) estimate obeys a condition of minimum Fisher information, or minimum precision, according to the second law of thermodynamics. When the Fisher information is minimized subject to a constraint on the mean-square kinetic energy for the particle, the solution is a probability law on position whose corresponding wave amplitude obeys the Klein-Gordon equation, the Weyl–Pauli equation, or the Dirac equation, depending on whether scalar (without spin) or vector (with spin) solutions are sought. The minimized Fisher information is proportional to the mean-square kinetic energy, minus the rest energy of the particle.

With a rigid pipe for the vertical free standing portion and a flexible pipe for the near surface dynamic motion region, Free Standing Hybrid Riser (FSHR) has been widely accepted within the offshore oil and gas industry, especially in the field of West of Africa, Gulf of Mexico and field of Brazil. So the optimum design of FSHR system is becoming increasingly meaningful and necessary. This paper mainly presents the parametric sensitivity analysis and optimization of deepwater Free Standing Hybrid Riser (FSHR). First of all, a general description about FSHR system is given in the introduction. The components of FSHR and their function are presented in detail. Secondly, the procedure for parameters optimum design is discussed, and in order to make it looks more clearly and directly, a flowchart is illustrated to show the process. Considering the design requirements for a deepwater FSHR, the optimum design mathematic model is presented with the optimal objective - minimum of FSHR total weight which is directly proportional to project cost. Thirdly, a design instance is given to make clear the flow of FSHR optimum design with the best performance. The global strength analysis is carried out with the use of generic FEA tools. Then the parametric sensitivity analysis is performed through Single-Variable Control Method. Based on FSHR global strength analysis, four sensitivity parameters are carried out, and the minimum bending radius (MBR) of Flexible Jumper and the max von Misses stress are checked according to API RP 2RD. The relationship between sensitivity parameters and the response of the riser system is briefly discussed and the regress analysis can be used to quantify the relativity. Finally, the parameters optimum design is analyzed and the optimum results are checked to ensure its validity.

We report on experiments carried out at high intensities with a table top terawatt laser system which employs the chirped pulse amplification technique [1]. High efficiency frequency doubling (85% conversion from 1 pm to 0.53 pm wavelength) is used to generate high contrast pulses. The green beam (1 J in 300 fs pulse with no prepulse) is focused to intensities up to 5 × 1018 W/cm2. At these intensities relativistic effects and ponderomotive pressure [2] are important issues for the interaction. The interaction of a very clean pulse with solid matter allows the production of hot solid density plasmas which offers a unique way to address experimentally, in the laboratory, some problems of great astrophysical interest [3] and of importance for atomic physics. In order to get fully ionized solid density emitting matter, a careful optimisation of the interaction regime is required [4]. On one hand laser intensity must be high enough to overcome, with radiation pressure, the thermal and hydrodynamic mechanisms tending to spread the plasma at low intensity. On the other hand the intensity must be kept below some limit above which we enter the regime of cratering and hole boring problems associated with ultra-high radiation pressures [5], We present and discuss such an optimisation study for the generation of Li-like solid density plasmas. The plasma density and temperature are deduced from line broadening [6] and line ratio calculations (using TRANSPEC code). We observe an optimum at a laser intensity of 1018 W/cm2 for the generation of Al plasmas radiating Li-like emission at solid density. We will discuss the physics of the various interaction regimes for laser intensities between 1017 W/cm2 and 1019 W/cm2 and for various Z material. The implications of these results for the design of an ultra-fast X-ray sources [7] will be outlined.

High-order harmonic generation (HHG) [1], if phase matched, may provide an important and convenient (in principle, table-top) source of short-wavelength coherent radiation. So far, however, HHG phase matching remains poor. The only experimental way to improve HHG phase matching has been weaker focusing of the pumping beam. An inherent disadvantage of this method is that it lowers the incident intensity thus decreasing overall power conversion efficiency. Moreover, this technique can have only a limited success in approaching the optimum phase matching which corresponds to large negative values of the parameter bΔk (b is the laser confocal parameter, and Δk is the dispersive phase mismatch of the medium), since in gases or, to much larger extent, in plasma, Δk is positive. Recently, J. M. Rax and N. J. Fish [2] have suggested plasma density modulation as a method to phase match relativistic third-harmonic generation in plasma. Their idea is essentially a ramification of the well known in nonlinear optics method of quasi-phase-matching (QPM). Almost all the effort in QPM has been concentrated on the second-harmonic generation in solids since obviously much more convenient ways to optimize higher-order harmonic generation (until recently -- almost exclusively, third-harmonic generation) in gases exist. As a result, to the best of our knowledge, no general consideration of quasi-phase-matching in gases and plasma, in particular for HHG, has been published yet. In the present paper, we consider quasi-phase-matching of HHG by a focused beam in plasma or a gas whose nonlinear succeptibility and refractive index are spatially modulated, in particular through the medium density modulation, and demonstrate that QPM is feasible with the available laser and plasma technology. In accordance with the HHG experimental conditions, we assume that harmonics are generated by bound electrons. To obtain analytic results, we rely on the perturbation expressions for the induced nonlinear polarization; our results remain valid beyond perturbation limits if some general assumptions hold regarding nonlinear polarization induced by strong laser field [3]. Accurate quantitative estimates of the improvement in HHG due to QPM requires nonperturbative calculations of HHG in homogeneous media with large negative bΔk; to our knowledge, no such calculations have been published yet. On the basis of a nonperturbative model introduced in Ref. [4], however, one might expect QPM-optimized harmonic intensity to be up to two order of magnitude larger, with available depth of plasma density modulation, than the output intensity attainable under currently employed loose focusing and poor phase matching. Even more important a consequence of QPM is the opportunity to use tight focusing so far deleterious for HHG; resulting much higher intensities would greatly increase power conversion efficiency as compared to the loose-focusing regime.
