Abstract:
The article considers the notional nature and peculiarities of genus-species relations between the phenomena of opposition and oppositivity ; it also deals with the lexical-and-grammatica ways of expressing the latter in an English literary text. The study establishes that, besides the logical component, an opposition also expresses a subjective one, manifesting a communicants unique view on the communicative situation and thus displaying semantics of oppositivity. Unlike spatial, logical and grammatical oppositions, generally characterized by a symmetrical structure, the subjective (oppositive) opposition is asymmetrical. It is revealed that due to the structural asymmetry this kind of opposition is marked by greater semantic potential compared to logical and grammatical oppositions. It is proved that the complication of subjective oppositions with antonymous pairs, lexical and syntactical repetitions, antithetic units, oxymorons etc. extends the scope of meanings implied by them; and the use of subjective (oppositive) oppositions in a literary text themselves becomes an effective tool of contrast-building both on the lexical-grammatical and textual levels.

Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this study is to describe the different political and social conditions of opposition activity in Hungary and Poland between 1956 and 1989, and to map the relations between the various opposition groups. It starts from the premise that after 1956 radically different political, economic, and social conditions developed in the two countries. While in Poland the situation was relatively favorable for opposition activity, in Hungary the possibilities were limited; and only in the late 1970s, and especially after the birth of the Polish Solidarity movement, did the scope for action increase. In this article, I argue that the political, ideological, and generational determinants of Hungarian opposition groups in Hungarian-Polish opposition relations have been decisive in their choice of Polish partners. Hungarian opposition groups contacted Polish groups whose worldview corresponded to their own as this aspect was more important to them than the oppositional attitude itself. The article points out that the East-Central European opposition movement was a transnational phenomenon—not only because the task of all oppositions was to formulate and represent responses and reactions to the socialist system but also because they converged and interacted through their internal relations, channels, and mutual interactions.

Abstract:
A folk-tale narrative with its unique composition and deep-laid semantics is an important phenomenon of modern life. It supplements a rational worldview and preserves its priorities, despite the changes that take place in the technical, informational, communicational and other areas of human activity. The folk-tale model of the world is a binary entity characterized by interconnected oppositions. For this reason the structure of the folk-tale and its holistic perception is largely determined by the category of opposition. The article describes a model for representing the category of opposition in Celtic folklore. The author identifies general and specific types of oppositions and describes the language means expressing them. The proposed methodology for the analysis of the language means makes it possible to go beyond the traditional structural description. It gives an insight into a linguistic opposition as a contextually conditioned or a potential phenomenon. Moreover, the oppositional method can be extrapolated to the study of texts which belong to other genres of literature. Such research contributes to the understanding of British ethnic mentality. Establishing what is seen as the opposite in the texts of traditional folk culture helps to identify cultural meanings in language units.

Abstract:
This article analyses the problem of anti-systemic opposition’s existence in a totalitarian state. Different concepts concerning the genesis of totalitarianism as well as the features of this system were presented in the paper. Then, the idea of the opposition in a totalitarian state was defined. At the same time, it was emphasized that defining the oppositional quality in a democratic and totalitarian state is completely disparate. Next, an analysis of anti-systemic opposition’s occurrence in the states such as the Republic of Cuba and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was made. This analysis helped to answer the question concerning the conditions which must exist in a totalitarian state so that the anti-systemic opposition could appear.

Abstract:
Abstract Bergson imputes the generation of false problems in philosophy to the idea of nothingness and negative concepts. Yet, all his books are fraught with oppositional thinking, such as the oppositions between space and time, quantity and quality, life and matter. Understandably, this apparent discrepancy has led a philosopher like Merleau-Ponty to speak of inconsistency, while Jankélévitch and others counter the charge of inconsistency by arguing that Bergsonism embraces operational opposition as opposed to substantial opposition. This article disagrees with both interpretations and proposes a solution based on the need to distinguish between the level of intuitive vision of the unity of nature and the level of representative analysis whose defining feature is that it operates by means of opposing concepts. The progression from representation to intuition transcends opposition and unites life and matter in the vision of a self-surpassing effort or élan.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to identify similarities and differences in the implementation of the category of opposition in folk and literary fairy-tale texts. The article compares two folk and three literary versions of the fairy tale, united by plot and compositional similarities. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time a comparative study of the corpus of oppositions in fairy-tale texts of different genesis is being conducted. The category of opposition is considered as a universal linguistic category that ensures the coherence and consistency of a fairy tale narrative. It is confirmed that antonymous units are represented at different levels of the language system and are not limited to conventional oppositions, forming contextual and potentially realizable oppositions. Generalized generic and particular category oppositions are identified, which are realized at different levels of language and located within a dicteme or hyperdicteme. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the linguistic implementation of oppositions and their contextual location are largely determined by the authorship of the text. Folk tales are characterized by common lexical, grammatical and syntactic oppositions located within one or more dictums, whereas the authors of literary versions widely use contextual and potential oppositions, preferring the contact arrangement of oppositional units.

The opposition between literary monuments is a phenomenon that has afflicted the world of literature since historical times, and perhaps between different nations, and Arabs are fond of writing oppositions, matching, dividing poems, dividing them, and simulating them. Poets throughout the ages have sought to oppose the effects of their well-known counterparts, admiring them or emphasizing their superiority over them. Among these oppositions, which received great attention, were the opposition of the Lamiyyat, as many poets opposed it, including the opposition of al-Tughrafi in his poem Lamiyat al-Ajam, the poem of the Lamiyat of the Arabs by al-Shanfriuth, the opposition of Nir al-Tabrizi, the poem of Lamiyat al-Ajam in his poem marked Lamiyat al-Turk.

Abstract:
Lexical semanticists have categorized linguistic items based on their perceived relationships and have come up with the category termed semantic oppositions to describe words that share certain contrastive features. Consequently, certain categories of semantic oppositions have been documented in the literature. The current research argues that a certain type of opposition termed contextual opposition has not been accounted for. Resting on Teun van Dijk’s (2006) socio-cognitive theory of context, this paper probes into the types of opposites found in Niyi Osundare’s poetry, The Eye of the Earth with a view to accounting for the nature of relationships existing between certain pairs of opposites. In addition to the various types of semantic opposites in the text, analysis reveals the presence of a new type of opposites termed ‘contextual opposites’ (opposition conferred on the linguistic items by context). Findings reveal that contextual oppositions (or pragmatic oppositions) designate a relationship in which words, phrases and larger expressions which ordinarily do not share any linguistic relationship of contrast or incompatibility are forced to appear as opposites as a result of their contextual contradictory semantics and syntactic ordering. The paper concludes that current categorisation of opposition in English should incorporate contextual oppositions rather than limiting such to the traditional lens of lexical semantics.

Abstract:
A dialect text is an informative and valuable source for researching the entire dialect system of a language, as well as for interdisciplinary studies related to cultural studies, folklore, ethnography, etc. The issues of the category of opposition were studied by L.A. Bulakhovskyi, F. de Saussure, O.O. Potebnia and others; Ukrainian linguists today consider antonymy mainly with regard to pragmatics (F.S. Batsevych, D.V. Movchan, K.V. Taranenko, N.O. Rusnak). In the article the category of opposition as one of the most widespread in the dialect text, the basis for creating informativeness about the past for the present life is analysed. It has been found that the category of opposition in oral stories-memoirs of dialect speakers is realised in the form of concepts-oppositions. Specific examples are used to illustrate the use of verbalisation techniques for concepts with oppositional meanings within the semantic field of the КОЛИСЬ – ЗАРАЗ. Іn dialect discourse, speakers focus on distinct differences in life and activity over time, and for the informativeness of communication, they talk about modern traditions and point out the differences in the past, thus expressing their attitude to such changes. The category of opposition is based on the opposite, which covers all spheres of human existence. In statements, two opposite states of an object or a subject are realised, and most importantly, the attitude of the linguistic personality, which makes it possible to create connotatively coloured linguistic units. The category of opposition as a logical procedure based on opposition (dissimilarity, incompatibility, comparison of objects, states, characteristics by certain differential features) covers the entire reality of human existence. Statements can represent two opposite states of an object or a subject, and most importantly, the attitude of a linguistic personality, which makes it possible to create connotatively coloured linguistic units.

Abstract Opposition responsibility is a neglected field, and if at all noticed, opposition parties are often placed in the irresponsibility frame. The purpose of our paper is to examine to what extent, under which conditions, and in which ways opposition parties can be considered to act responsibly. This article will develop the concept of opposition responsibility and test the expectations in the behaviour of opposition parties in three countries: Hungary, Italy and Spain. The analysis highlights that opposition responsibility exceeds—although does not exclude—policy making and scrutiny activities as it has broader implications. We shall regard the opposition’s general performance and their political system-related behaviour as components of responsibility.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this article, a simple approach is suggested to calculate the approximate dates of opposition and conjunction of Earth and Mars since their opposition on August 28, 2003 (at perihelion of Mars). The goal of this article has been achieved via using accurate analytical solution to Kepler’s equation in terms of Bessel function. The periodicity property of this solution and its particular values at specified times are discussed through some lemmas. The mathematical conditions of opposition and conjunction of the two planets are formulated. Moreover, the intervals of opposition and conjunction have been determined using the graphs of some defined functions. The calculations reveal that there are nine possible oppositions and conjunctions for Earth and Mars during 20 years started on August 28, 2003. The dates of such oppositions and conjunctions were approximately determined and listed in Tables. It is found that our calculations differ few days from the published real dates of Earth–Mars oppositions due to the neglected effects of the gravitational attraction of other planets in the Solar system on the motion of two planets. The period of 20 years can be extended for any number of years by following the suggested analysis. Furthermore, the current approach may be extended to study the opposition and conjunction of the Earth and any outer planet.

Opposition theory suggests that binary oppositions (e.g., high vs. low) underlie basic cognitive and linguistic processes. However, opposition theory has never been implemented in a computational cognitive-semiotics model. In this paper, we present a simple model of metaphor identification that relies on opposition theory. An algorithm instantiating the model has been tested on a data set of 100 phrases comprising adjective-noun pairs in which approximately a half represent metaphorical language-use (e.g., dark thoughts) and the rest literal language-use (e.g., dark hair). The algorithm achieved 89% accuracy in metaphor identification and illustrates the relevance of opposition theory for modelling metaphor processing.

This study aims at analyzing the deconstruction process in the short story Seribu Kunang-Kunang di Manhattanby Umar Kayam by looking at the binary oppositions as well as the form of deconstruction that happens in the short story. The theory used in this study is deconstruction theory by Jacques Derrida. The result showed that there were several binary oppositions, namely: West and East, big city and village, man and woman. The oppositions described in this story are problematic. The first opposition, West and East, was reversed and won by the East. The second opposition, the city and the village, experienced a reversal so that the village won. Likewise, with the third opposition, man and woman also experienced a reversal and won by the woman. In the end, this research shows that these hierarchical oppositions do not exist and are only the result of the construction of the author's imagination. Yet the author rejects what he wants to portray in the story, the Western life in Manhattan, United States.

Abstract:
The article focuses on the English pronoun and its ability to substitute its counterpart by this or that opposition. In linguistics, this phenomenon is referred to as oppositional reduction or oppositional substitution. Oppositional reduction is well-research in the systems of noun and verb; however, it has but only cursory mentions in regard of the pronoun. It is this circumstance that encouraged the author to focus on the problem. Grounding his speculations by M. J. Blokh’s ideas, the author dwells on several language phenomena that promote reduction in the oppositions within the categories of number, gender, and case, as well as various oppositions of the English pronoun. The research objective was to structure the available information on the problem, as well as to identify varieties of oppositional reduction in the system of the English pronoun. The article contains historical reference, the main provisions of the fundamental theory, and the scientific experience in solving various issues of oppositional reduction. The author dwells on research material and methods, focusing on the contextual analysis. The paper classified oppositional reduction, illustrating each type by examples from written sources of various genres.

Introduction. The study focuses on the analysis of lexico-semantic and stylistic means of oppositions’ verbalization in Ray Bradbury’s texts.Purpose. The aim of this paper is to examine the basic views of scholars on the linguistic means of expressing oppositions and illustrate them with examples from Ray Bradbury’s novel“Fahrenheit 451”.Methods. The paper applied the methods of stylistic analysis, semantic and contextual analysis.Results. Systemic relation in language representing oppositions of different kinds have been studied by many scholars in different genres of texts but fiction. In Ray Bradbury’s science fiction novel “Fahrenheit 451” opposition relations are created with the help of such lexical means as synonymy, antonymy on the levels of separate words, lexical and semantic groups and lexical and thematic fields. The study of lexico-semantic and stylistic means of opposiitons’verbalization approved that among the dominant means there are antithesis, metaphor and metonymy as stylistic means to represent the conceptual opposition “HUMAN BEING – TECHNOLOGY” which is one of the crucial in creating the unique idiostyle of the writer.Conclusions. Oppositions on the lexico-semantic level are verbalized through the synonymic and antonymic relations of the separate words, lexical and semantic groups, lexical and thematic fields. The stylistic means manifesting the oppositions in the Ray Bradbury’s woks are antithesis to show the contrast; metaphor and metonymy to create opposition on the basis of common characteristics. The further research will be aimed at the in-depth analysis of the verbalization means of the conceptual opposition “HUMAN BEING – TECHNOLOGY” in Ray Bradbury’s works for classifying the peculiarities of the writer’s idiostyle.

FPI (Islamic Defenders Front) is a mass organization that has consistently positioned itself as the opposition since the reformation. However, during the Jokowi era, the FPI's opposition was more dominant than during before Jokowi era. Using Robert A. Dahl's opposition theory and Maurice Duverger's pressure group theory, as well as qualitative methods, this study wants to see the reasons for FPI as an opposition, FPI's affiliation with Joko Widodo's political opponents. It then analyzes the relationship between ideological and political aspects. This study shows that the FPI oppositional movement is divided into two. That is, the FPI oppositional movement is based on ideological aspects and based on political aspects. This includes da'wah, political support for Jokowi's opponents, and oppressive movements such as the 212 movements. FPI can strengthen identity politics because FPI often uses SARA issues in its movement as a radical Islamic organization.

This paper discusses Marah Rusli’s Anak dan Kemenakan text with opposition concept by Julia Kristeva. Opposition is something unexchangeable and unconditional between two inharmonic, not-complementary, and unsettling groups. This paper was written to observe the opposition in Anak dan Kemenakan text. Data analysis methods used are suprasegmental and intertextuality analysis methods. It’s found that the oppositions in the text can be seen from the aspects of educational, marriage, social class, and mamak’s (uncle) and father’s role in Minangkabau’s matrilineal kinship system. All of those aspects are opposite in thought, attitude, and behavior between the old and the youth. It describes that the people of Minangkabau was starting to enter a renewal which was marked by the appearance of educational institution. Meanwhile, the renewal itself wasn’t completely accepted by the society. Therefore, the oppositions between the old and the youth became unavoidable.

Abstract:
Position taking is an important legislative area that scholars have investigated extensively. Since one of the main roles of the opposition is to present an alternative to the government, the question is, how does the opposition establish its positions? To address this question, we analyze the use of One-Minute Speeches (OMSs) by opposition members in the Israeli parliament (the Knesset) during 2000-2013. There were four Knesset terms during these years, so we have the opportunity to study the opposition’s behavior over a period of time. We decided to analyze OMSs because they are considered an easy tool to use and as such can be considered a weapon of the weak. The study uses mixed research methods, beginning with a statistical analysis (both at the legislator level and at the OMS level) and continuing with a content analysis of the speeches and the interviews conducted with members and leaders of the opposition. The statistical analysis shows that opposition members use OMSs more extensively than coalition members. Among the opposition members, we also found different behavior patterns based on nationality and seniority. In addition, the qualitative analysis of both the OMSs and the interviews shows that opposition members are active in two ways. First, they react to government-initiated proposals. Second, they raise topics for the Knesset’s agenda, a move that the coalition generally does not appreciate. Third, members of the opposition consider OMSs an effective tool in that it allows them to create a relevant debate on current issues. Finally, ministers and other MKs often respond to the opposition’s OMSs that are controversial and provoke debate. Thus, we conclude that the OMS is a weapon of the weak.

Abstract:
The article presents the analysis of infixed and sta-stem verbs opposed to ia-stem verbs attested in the old Lithuanian scripts, investigating the opposition causative/anticausative. The research has shown that this morphosemantic opposition was amply testified in the earliest Lithuanian written sources – 59 correlations of this type were recorded in total. More than 50 percent of the equivalents of the oppositions attested exist in the Latvian language as well. This suggests that the causative/anticausative formation belongs to the Eastern Baltic period, and has been crucial to the productivity of the class of infixed and sta-stem verbs. Although not so abundant, the correspondences of the oppositions found in the Slavic and Germanic languages presuppose an even earlier chronology of decausation. The regularity of the semantics and formal structure of the oppositions allow the relations of the opposites to be treated as derivative. This is particularly true in the case of the abundant reflexes of “complex-root” oppositions such as CeRC/CiRC. The abundance of non-present and prefixed forms of the analysed verbs testifies to the specificity of this flexional class in terms of actionality: inchoative, completive, limitative or punctual meaning realised by corresponding prefixes was important for the development of the morphosemantic uniformity of decausatives and has inspired new patterns of word formation, the durative/terminative opposition and the derivation of the denominatives in particular. The study of the causative/anticausative verbal opposition in the old Lithuanian scripts is significant for the history of Lithuanian infixed and sta-stem verbs and for a typological linguistic research.

Abstract:
The article analyses the situation in Cambodia’s oppositional National Rescue Party which was dissolved in 2018. The author shows that there is no unity among opposition members. The split primarily concerns two leaders – Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha, each of whom pursues his own political agenda. The opposition members are split between supporting Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha, while some members either intend to or already have formed their own political parties. The segmentation of the opposition prevents its unification within a single structure, which could effectively compete with the ruling Cambodian People’s Party. Meanwhile, the ruling party is itself faced with unprecedented challenges amidst severe economic crisis.

Abstract:
This research is aimed to analyse the binary opposition in the “The Goldfinch” novel by Donna Tartt. The problem that analysed in this research focused on binary opposition of major character in the novel. The approach to analysing binary opposition used Derrida's concept, namely the theory of deconstruction by Jacques Derrida which is categorised as a poststructuralist approach. Deconstruction theory is understood as a theory that dismantles existing general views. The concept of binary opposition is directed to analyze the difference between two things which are considered to produce a new perspective and can be accepted by many people. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive method, namely the author described and analysed existing data. The data is from the quotation of the novel. The result of the research is there are five binary oppositions, they are good – bad, valuable – worthless, honest – dishonest, caring – ignorant, and crowded – silent. The binary oppositions are found in the characters of the story. The characters in the story represent some of the characters of other people in the real world. People's perceptions about certain human characteristics can be explored deeper and have opposite sides.

Abstract:
While women have increasingly gained access to the position of opposition leader, we still know very little about their pathways to that office. Therefore, this article seeks to uncover the dynamics and patterns that distinguish the ascendency of women politicians to the office of opposition leader from a comparative perspective. In this article, opposition leaders are understood as the parliamentary party group leaders of the largest non-governing party in a given legislative assembly, which marks the closest equivalent to the Westminster understanding of leaders of the opposition that continues to dominate international notions of opposition leaders and oppositional leadership in parliamentary democracies. We draw on data from opposition leaders in 28 parliamentary democracies between 1996–2020 to identify opportunity structures that allow women opposition leaders to emerge across countries. In addition, we test how factors on the individual level (e.g., previous experience in party and parliament as well as in government) and at the party level (e.g., ideology) affect the likelihood that a parliamentary opposition leader is a woman. Our analyses demonstrate that the share of women in parliament significantly increases the likelihood that at least one of the parliamentary opposition leaders of the past 25 years was a woman. Moreover, opposition leaders in leftist parties are more likely to be women than their more rightist counterparts. Surprisingly, and contrary to our expectations, previous political experience does not shape the probability of women becoming opposition leaders. Thus, overall, the institutional and ideological contexts of selecting parliamentary opposition leaders seem to matter more than the experience and qualifications of individual candidates.

Abstract:
Binary opposition is the most important aspect that can reveal how humans think, how humans produce meaning and understand reality (Culler, 1976). Therefore, the discovery of binary oppositions is useful in providing clues to the workings of human reason. In the context of narrative analysis, binary opposition can reveal how the logic behind a narrative is made. Based on this, this study highlights how the formation of binary opposition contained in the novel "Lettres de Mon Moulin" by Alphonse Daudet uses Lévi Strauss's theory of binary opposition (1955) and structural analysis using Freytag's plot theory (1863). The corpus of the research consists of six stories contained in the novel forming a binary opposition. After doing the analysis, it was found that a pair of words with binary opposition were included in the exclusive category and two pairs of words that were included in the non-exclusive binary opposition category. From these findings, it was found that the author of the novel, Daudet, gave directions on what was good and bad by giving a clear line of separation. This is in line with the context of making stories during the industrial revolution, which mapped the world into two things, namely traditional and modern life.

"The political opposition in Democratic Republic of Congo reamins less studied in studies on the dynamics of democratic transition in this country for two reasons. It is about the omission of this component in the constitutionalist process after independance and the long duration of military government come to power by coup or armed insurrection. Consequently, this article proposes to operate three variables to study congolese political opposition. Institutional determinants (related to the party system, methods of voting systems), the legal expression of the opposition and finaly, the nature and charisma of congolese opposition leaders. Anyway, the congolese political opposition has its origins in an intra-party struggle to evolve into an inter-party oppositon in its fight for the conquest of state power. It remains true that on the three democratic experiences relating to the presidential elections, the congolese political, by forming electoral coalitions, managed to beat the ruling party once in the presidential elections. Nevertheless, the strategies of this opposition remain limited in terms of effectiveness because of the nature of the parties that compose it, political transhumance, the ego between its leaders in a political system combining victory in the presidential and legislative elections to govern without alchemy of cohabition.

Abstract:
“Not in my back yard” (NIMBY) is characterized as behavioral opposition to proposed change and reflects vested interest and perceived negative personal consequences. The present research examined the role of arousal in moderating the relationship between vested interest and oppositional behavior. Two studies replicated previous research with high vested interest associated with greater oppositional behavior and greater attitude-behavior consistency than that observed with low vested interest. Moreover, a misattribution of arousal manipulation (Study 1) resulted in reduced oppositional behavior, whereas an induced arousal manipulation (Study 2) resulted in greater oppositional behavior. These results provide experimental support for the role of arousal underlying vested interest and behavioral opposition. Implications of the results for applications and further research are considered.

Abstract:
The existence of authoritarian elections raises a number of questions regarding the strategies of political opposition. What explains the choice of strategy among key opponents of a regime? What determines when opposition groups willingly participate in elections and when they engage in electoral boycott? To understand the opposition’s strategic choices, we develop a formal model of government–opposition interaction under authoritarianism. We contribute to the literature on election boycotts in emphasizing the effect of uncertainty about the strength of the regime on strategic decisions. The model produces predictions for several key features of authoritarian elections, including the decision to participate, boycott, and mobilize against the regime. Importantly and uniquely, the model provides an explanation for variation in opposition strategies within a particular country. Using the case of Jordan, we illustrate how the results of the model can be used to explain variation in opposition strategy across parliamentary elections.

Abstract:
In recent literature on post-Soviet electoral revolutions in places where attempts at regime change through popular protest did not succeed, opposition groups are often simply regarded as ‘failed’. And yet, opposition actors exist and participate in the political life of their country. Building on the Belarusian and Azerbaijani cases, we argue that opposition actors are maintained in a ‘ghetto’, often virtual, tightly managed by the ruling authorities who exert monopolistic control over civic activities. Opposition actors adapt to the restricted conditions – accepting a certain level of dependency. They thus develop various tactics to engage with the outside, striving to reduce the ghetto walls. To this end this article proposes a typology of what we call oppositional ‘resistance models’: electoral, in the media, lobbying and through education. The models highlight what makes ‘opposition’ in authoritarian states and are a step towards a more comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon in this context.

Abstract:
The paper considers the relation of semantic opposition in terms of the prototype theory of concepts. Its purpose is to provide information on peripheral or border areas of the category of semantic opposition. Data from linguistic analyzes, as well as the results of contemporary corpus studies, indicate that pairs of co-hyponyms from multi-element sets are potentially relevant material in peripheral areas of the category of semantic opposition. A psycholinguistic study was conducted to verify the psychological reality of the data. 720 Polish language users were instructed to provide semantic oppositions to the list of 24 stimuli words (test of directed associations). The research material was Polish nouns belonging to 3 lexical fields: animals, plants and artifacts, with no obvious semantic oppositions (as bee, cabbage, vase). It turned out that, according to the hypothesis, proportions of reactions classified as co-hyponyms of stimuli are high: for 21 stimuli it was 52–94% of the response corpora and for 22 stimuli the dominant reaction was co-hyponym of the stimulus word (as cabbage-lettuce, bee-wasp, vase-flowerpot). The characteristics that determine the choice of a given co-hyponym as the semantic opposite of the stimulus were identified. The remainder of the response corpus was analyzed in order to reveal other ways and mechanisms for seeking the semantic opposition by respondents. The data obtained in the presented study confirm the necessity to incorporate the problem of co-hyponymic pairs from multi-element sets into reflections on the category of the semantic opposition.

Abstract:
Electoral strategies of Turkey’s main opposition parties during the rule of the Justice and Development Party This paper aims at analyzing the evolution of the electoral strategies of the main oppositional political parties to the Justice and Development Party, which has been in power since 2002. Assuming that due to the increasing autocratization of Turkey’s political system, the opposition’s options for action remain limited, and any eventual victory depends on the ability to form electoral coalitions, the paper will trace the political path taken by the AKP itself and the political parties opposed to it until the elections in 2023. At the same time, the question will be asked about the reasons for the defeat of the opposition parties in 2023. The basic assumption here is that the internally diversified National Alliance failed to construct a comprehensive programmatic offer capable of attracting voters of the ruling party on a massive scale and at the same time it failed to deliver a sufficiently satisfactory offer to its own electorate.

Although the right to form and exercise parliamentary opposition has always been recognized as an essential part of the free democratic basic order, there is widespread disagreement within jurisprudence about the specific status of oppositional actors in the German Bundestag . The ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court of May 3, 2016 has provided little clarity in this respect . While the court rightly recognizes the principle of effective opposition, many issues remain unclear, particularly with regard to the constitutional derivation on the one hand and the practical consequences of the principle on the other . This contribution attempts to answer these questions and finally pleads for an opposition-sensitive design of the instruments of parliamentary committees of inquiry and abstract norm control in order to ensure the effectiveness of parliamentary opposition also by formal law .
