Abstract:

Abstract:
This tutorial covers the basics of algorithmization and programming in Microsoft Visual Basic. Contains a description of such traditional material necessary for learning the basics of algorithmization as the operation of linear, branching, and cyclic structures, processing one-dimensional and two-dimensional arrays, programming using functions and procedures, string processing, and so on. We discuss the data types used in VB, review the main controls of the programming environment, and pay attention to data input and output methods. It also describes how to work with graphics based on the GDI+interface. Meets the requirements of the Federal state educational standards of secondary professional education of the latest generation. It can be used by students and teachers of secondary professional and higher educational institutions.

Full text
Abstract:
Stress echocardiography has evolved over the last 30 years but image interpretation remains subjective and burdened by the operator’s experience. The objective operator-independent assessment of myocardial ischaemia during stress echocardiography remains a technological challenge. Still, adequate quality of two-dimensional images remains a prerequisite to successful quantitative analysis, even using Doppler and non-Doppler based techniques. No new technology has proved to have a higher diagnostic accuracy than conventional visual wall motion analysis. Tissue Doppler imaging and derivatives may reduce inter-observer variability, but still require a dedicated learning curve and special expertise. The development of contrast media in echocardiography has been slow. In the past decade, transpulmonary contrast agents have become commercially available for clinical use. The approved indication for the use of contrast echocardiography currently lies in improving endocardial border delineation in patients in whom adequate imaging is difficult or suboptimal. Real-time three-dimensional echocardiography is potentially useful but limited by low spatial and temporal resolution. It is possible that these technologies may serve as an adjunct to expert visual assessment of wall motion. At present, these quantitative methods require further validation and simplification of analysis techniques.

Full text
Abstract:
Chapter 6 argues that when considering potential causative factors for the development of genocidal behavior, there is a middle ground between cultural and historical factors that operate over a very long time-scale and situational factors that impact behavior in a very short time. This middle ground is inhabited by basic mechanisms of learning and conditioning, such as nonassociative learning, classical and operant conditioning, and observational learning. These mechanisms are constant but subtle forces shaping our thinking and behavior. The Nazi regime used its coercive power and control over the media and education to manipulate and shape the attitudes and behavior of the population, effects that were mediated through basic mechanisms of learning and conditioning.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter illustrates the complexity of the mathematics curriculum and why students who struggle to comprehend mathematics face additional challenges in terms of remedial instruction. Mathematics disabilities are more common than often believed. These difficulties frequently stem from a deficit in basic numeracy, or an understanding of how numbers work and how our number system operates. A breakdown of mathematics concept areas from the Common Core State Standards illustrates the breadth of mathematics content. Case studies exemplify various presentations of mathematics disorders. Mathematics problems may remain undercover longer than other types of disabilities, and identification of a mathematics learning disorder may not occur until college. Assessment and remedial techniques are included.

Steel, Duncan G. Introduction to Quantum Nanotechnology. Oxford University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780192895073.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Quantum physics is rapidly emerging as a transformative approach to expand the frontiers of technology in areas including communications, information processing, metrology, and sensing. Indeed, the end of Moore’s Law looms in the near future and quantum effects in modern electronics such as quantum tunneling are a limiting factor. In contrast, in new technology based on quantum behavior, the quantum properties represent a new dimension of opportunity. This shift is already creating a growing need for engineers and physical scientists who have specialized knowledge in this area, in order to contribute to the growing effort. There are numerous outstanding textbooks available for a general approach to the field of quantum physics. There is much to be gained by taking the traditional learning approach, but it can take two or three years before students encounter many of the exciting ideas and tools for this area. This book takes an application-motivated approach to enable students to build a quantum toolbox. The first six chapters describe the quantum states of various systems of interest, while the remaining chapters focus mainly on dynamics. Important concepts like the quantum flip-flop, based using Rabi oscillations, and engineering the quantum vacuum are presented. Powerful tools including the atomic operator approach and density matrix operator are introduced with examples of applications. This book is aimed at upper level undergraduates and some first year graduate students. The book is arranged to fulfil the needs for a one-semester or two-semester sequence. For a one-semester sequence, the preface describes several paths that emphasize different aspects of quantum behavior.

Full text
Abstract:
Learning Legal Rules brings together the theory, structure, and practice of legal reasoning in order to help the reader to develop both their knowledge and reasoning skills. It provides techniques of legal research, analysis, and argument, and explains the operation of precedent as well as effective statutory interpretation. When studying law, it is easy to become focused on the substantive aspects of the subject—the concepts, rules, and principles that go to make up contract, tort, crime, etc. In order to study and practise law effectively, it is essential not only to understand what the legal rules are, but also why they are as they are, and what consequences they might have. This requires that you develop the abilities that are the core focus of this book: to find and make sense of the primary and secondary sources of law; to interpret and apply authorities; to construct arguments both about the facts of a case, and as to how and why a particular authority should or should not be applied in a given situation, and to write clearly, and in an appropriate legal style, making reference to authority as necessary, in the proper academic form.
