Abstract:
The existence of open spaces in private urban villages in Jakarta is very rare. Occupancy at the center of the city causes people choose land for buildings rather than open space. Even though Jakarta has ranked in the top 5 countries with an upper threshold. Vertical garden was chosen as an alternative greening solution on limited open space. Vertical garden assistance and training is aimed at students from PGRI 15 High School located around the campus of Budi Luhur University, South Jakarta. Students are introduced to the importance of greening for environmental health and are encouraged to be creative in creating vertical garden forms with a variety of ideas. The approach method used is tri-daya, i.e. i) social power, ii) environmental power, and iii) economic power. The concept of Social Power is to invite students to become individuals who are more concerned about the environment capable of providing solutions to the completion of greening in urban areas that are increasingly limited. The concept of Environmental Power aims to invite students to take part in a residential or school environment to implement a vertical garden and increase their creativity in developing various vertical garden designs. And the concept of Economic Power is the result of the production of making vertical gardens can be used for themselves or sold to the general public, which in turn can increase the economic value of the surrounding community.

Abstract:
This study aimed to determine the factors that influence student learning comfort in the classroom and its distribution. This explorative study employed 772 students who were elementary school, junior high school, and senior high school students in several Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta schools. Data collection techniques using open questionnaires. The data analysis technique uses qualitative analysis which consists of three stages: open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The results showed that the factors that influence learning comfort of students in the classroom include: air circulation, quietness, cleanliness, adequate & supportive facilities, and peer attendance. These five factors are among other factors that are grouped into two: 1) factors originating from the physical environment (of building & site themes and of indoor space themes); and 2) factors from within its occupants (of human themes). The theme that shows the highest influence comes from the physical conditions in the classroom, that is indoor space themes.

Abstract:
This article presents data from a large-scale cross-sectional survey of LGBTQ college students ( N = 1,123) reflecting on their middle and high school experiences in choral music. The quantitative data indicate that students felt safer in high school than in middle school and that a small majority of high school teachers voiced support for LGBTQ students. These data indicate that high school choral classrooms were perceived as safe for a majority of respondents. The open-ended responses highlight themes including: the plight of transgender students who faced difficulty navigating their gender identities in the choral environment, the importance of enumerated non-discrimination policies, and the importance of words/semantics. Respondents discussed helpful and hurtful words and/or policies that influenced their choral experiences. A main theme was encouragement of open acknowledgement of LGBTQ identities and issues in the choral classroom. Suggestions for teaching practice and policy are provided based upon these data.

Abstract:
As nature and greenspaces in urban areas are agreed to enhance children’s appreciation towards natureand so the purposes of environmental education, it is of high importance to create spaces in and aroundschools that allow students to connect to nature on a daily basis. The aim of the study was to analysefunctions and other components supporting environmental education appear in the open spaces ofschool grounds in Budapest, and to understand the main characteristics of school grounds with thehighest potential in environmental education. The study points out that the presence of environmentaleducational functions often depends on the size, urban context and location of the school grounds, however the curriculum of the school does not necessarily influence its open spaces, while the presenceof motivated and engaged teachers does. The study reveals environmental educational functions doexist in school grounds of primary schools in Budapest, however they play only secondary role behindactive movement and play functions. The schools with the best potentials in environmental educationare without doubt the ones situated on large plots in the suburban zone, mostly with a high proportionof green spaces in and around the school grounds.

Abstract:
Purpose Building on the growing interest in school-based “making” and “makerspaces,” this paper aims to map the emergence of a literacy-oriented makerspace in a non-selective urban public high school. It examines how competing conceptions of literacy came to be negotiated as students and teachers shaped this new space for literacy practice, and it traces how the layered uses of the space, in turn, reworked understandings of literacy in the larger school community. Design/methodology/approach Part of a longitudinal design-research partnership with an urban public high school, the paper draws on two years of ethnographic data collection to follow the creation, development and uses of a school-based literacy-oriented makerspace. Findings Using notions of “re-territorialization,” the paper examines how the processes of designing, mapping and building a literacy lab offered space for layered and contested purposes that instantiated more expansive views of literacy in the school – even as it created new frictions. In presenting two analytic mappings, the paper illustrates how mapping can offers resources for people to make and remake the spaces they inhabit, a form of worldmaking that can open possibilities for reshaping the built world in more just and equitable ways. Originality/value The study offers insights into how mapping can serve as a research and pedagogical resource for making legible the emergent dimensions of literacy practice across time and spaces and the multiple perspectives that inform the design and use of educational spaces. Further, it contributes to a growing literature on “making” and literacy by examining how informal making practices are folded into formal school structures and considering how this reconfigures literacy learning.

Abstract:
Practical activities play an important role in science education. Through it, students develop a deeper understanding of standing theoretical concepts, skill, utilization of technology, and methods for investigation with direct manipulation of related materials. Effective use of laboratories is one of the requirements in learning chemistry, especially in experiment material. However, problems that are often encountered in learning in the laboratory are laboratory management which includes the procurement process, application process, and the maintenance process. The research method used was observation, document recording and interview with all chemistry teachers and students at Labuhan Deli Senior High School and Percut Sei Tuan Senior High School, District of Deli Serdang, Indonesia. Stages in the research of this are (1) observation based on National Education Standards, (2) observation of chemistry experiments implementation, (3) observation of constraint and problems laboratory at school, and (4) determine alternative solution. The result showed that area of chemistry laboratory has suitable with BSNP standart, but the standard of facilities and infrastructure category reference scale (PAP), showed less category results. So the settlement by researchers on this problem is to do a simple practicum that can be done in an open space or using the technology (virtual laboratory) to increase the students’ skill in industrial 4.0.

Abstract:
A substantial proportion of Italian students are unaware of the connection between what they learn at school and their work opportunities .This proportion would most likely increase if data were collected today, given the generation of a broad range of new jobs that has arisen due to advancements in technology. This gap between students’ understanding of what they learn at school and its application to the broader world—the society, the economy and the political sphere—suggests there needs to be a rethinking of how teaching and learning at school is conceived and positioned. To help students to approach ongoing social and economic transformations, the Italian Educational Ministry (MIUR) has endorsed a school–work interchange program which, aligned with the principle of open schools, aims to provide students with work experience. It is within the scope of this initiative that we have tested high school students with remote sensing (RS) from space projects. The experience-based approach aimed to verify students’ openness to the use of satellite data as a means to learn new interdisciplinary skills, to familiarize themselves with methodological knowledge and, finally, to inspire them when choosing a university or areas of future work. We engaged three cohorts, from 2017, 2018 and 2019, for a total of 40 h each year, including contact and non-contact time. The framework of each project was the same for the three cohorts and focused on the observation of Earth from space with a specific focus on wildfires. However, the initiative went beyond this, with diverse activities and tasks being assigned. This paper reports the pedagogical methods utilized with the three cohorts and how these methods were transformed and adapted in order to improve and enhance the learning outcomes. It also explores the outcomes for the students, teachers and family members, with respect to their learning and general appreciation.

The article is devoted to reforming of the higher education system, which is associated with technological and technical changes, namely, distance learning. The authors emphasize that the distance learning at the university makes education more open and mobile, but interindividual computer-mediated communication not only contributes to the design of a high-quality information educational space of higher school, forming the information culture of the actors of the educational process, but also causes a huge number of risks: informational, organizational, technical, psychological, health risks. As a result of the analysis, the authors concluded that certain elements of distance technologies can strengthen the education system, but a complete distance will exclude the social component from educational practices, which will entail a deformation of society.

Abstract:
The paper examines the current situation of grammar school’ libraries, which are being trans-formed into library-informational centers. The composition of the library fund is analyzed. The article considers the features of the activity of libraries of General education institutions on the example of libraries of grammar schools in Tomsk. The main areas of activity are defined, such as library lessons, organization of exhibitions, etc. The paper considers the formats of libraries' participa-tion in the educational process and extracurricular activities (organization of events). The representation of grammar school libraries in the virtual spaceis analyzed. The document analysis method was used as the leading method. In general, the representation of libraries on the websites of educational institutions is usually very limited. On some sites, information about libraries is limited to providing brief information about the library or even to having a provision about the library (or library-informational center) as a structural division of the grammar school. The main source of statistical information was the regulations on libraries, open analytical re-ports and reports on self-examination of educational institutions. These documents are presented on the websites of grammar schools. Basic statistical information is provided in open analytical reports and self-research reports. The-se documents determine the current composition of library collections, the volume of the fund of edu-cational and methodical literature, as well as the equipment and capacity of libraries. Open reports, in addition to this information, also contain information about the activities of li-braries: the subject of exhibitions and librarian events. The websites of some grammar schools have provided library work plans, which have also be-come a valuable source of information, since they provide the greatest coverage of the topics and types of events that are held by the library. The regulations on libraries and library and information centers of grammar schools have be-come a source for defining the libraries main tasks, which can be different. The main conclusion to which the author of the article comes: despite the fact that most educa-tional institutions are focused on creating library-informational centers aimed at creating a common information environment, there is a lack of representation of the activities of high school libraries in the virtual space, which is modern and promising.

Abstract:
Fiqh (Islamic law) has a central place in religious education. This paper attempts to attract attention to the central position of fiqh, which is defined as knowing one’s rights and duties; for this purpose the historical background of fiqh education from Ottoman madrasahs to the present is briefly covered, and its relation with basic Islamic sciences and Arabic, which is known as instrumental sciences, is displayed in the context of quality of education. In the paper the negative and positive aspects of the reflection of acquisitions on faculty education of İmam Hatip high school graduates in the case that they enter theology faculty are examined. Fiqh is related to such disciplines as construction, hadith and kalam based on religion; but it is also connected with such disciplines as philosophy, sociology and psychology which are not based on religion. The paper emphasizes the importance of including new fields such as Islamic law sociology and Islamic law philosophy in theology curricula and discussion is made on the necessity to open a space in the curriculum for these fields. The purpose here is to examine the problems in fiqh education in the process from İmam Hatip high schools to university and evaluate them from the perspective of students, lecturers and the curriculum.

Palabra clave: Instalaciones deportivas escolares, equipamiento deportivo, espacios descubiertos y espacios cubiertos.Abstract: The aim of this investigation is to evaluate the quality of the sports facilities and equipment of High Schools, according with current regulations. This is a quantitative research methodology, with descriptive character, using several check lists designed explicitly for this investigation. The sample consists of 21 High Schools. The results obtained, show us that 90.48% of High Schools have «open spaces» for the practice of physical activity, but only 61.90% of them have open spaces according with the regulations N.I.D.E. (Legislation about Sport Facilities and Recreation). In terms of «covered spaces», there is a 85,71% of High Schools that include these spaces to carry out the Physical Education classes, although the existing covered area does not comply the regulations currently in force in the 76.19% of the cases. This study shows that high school sports facilities, have serious shortcomings, especially m2 available in sporting and complementary, so it would be very positive that the current regulations (N.I.D.E.) are granted a prescriptive character, so that would be mandatory for High Schools, and able to sue a better endowment to the corresponding educational Administration. Abstract:
It is widely believed that education is a socially situated cultural process. Generally, schools are regarded as the key educational institutions. However, education can be formal, non-formal and informal, based on media-driven communicative settings. These types coalesce within formal institutions of learning. This study focuses on the transmission of cultural knowledge in informal spaces such as the bathroom. It argues that graffiti is a medium that offers students a unique communicative dynamic enabling an open engagement with issues they would otherwise not do elsewhere. It facilitates the transmission of vital cultural knowledge/literacy whose length and breadth cannot be adequately exhausted by the formal school curriculum alone. Bathroom interactions, therefore, bring a different dynamic to cultural education in learning institutions. Sexuality, hygiene and decency, among others, are negotiated from a strictly student perspective. A trip to the bathroom therefore marks a crucial transition from formal to informal education, and back.

Abstract:
Latina/o high school students face many challenges in school, and much current research on ethnicity and education likewise focuses on the downsides of being an ethnic minority in the U.S. educational system. Social scientists attribute the educational gaps associated with ethnic minority status to factors such as fewer family resources, discrimination, teacher-student mismatch, English learner status, and social isolation at school. This article shifts attention to the ways in which ethnic minority status can bolster educational attainment and highlights the significance of co-ethnic physical spaces or “enclaves” in majority white high schools. Data include 11 interviews with teachers and administrators at a public high school in the Southeast, supplemented with 100 hours of classroom participant observation and over 100 narratives written by students. Student perceptions are tapped through analysis of an open-ended essay writing exercise on what it means to be a Latina/o in the United States, completed by the Latina/o students enrolled in four Spanish language–only courses during three terms in 2013–2014. The observation, interview, and essay-based data indicate that Latino/a high school students benefit from school ethnic enclaves where they are free to draw on the support of co-ethnic peers and culturally flexible teachers. These themes emerge in the interviews with teachers and are supported by student comments in a writing exercise. School ethnic enclaves provide both academic and social support, help foster a positive ethnic self-image, and ultimately link ethnic minority status and heritage to success despite the significant—and more often studied—educational challenges faced by Latina/o high school students.

Abstract:
Field study was conducted in naturally ventilated primary school buildings in a warm and humid environment in Imo State, Nigeria to determine the thermal comfort perception of young children (aged 7–12 years) and to understand the thermal conditions in the classrooms. The comfort temperature was investigated in two types of classroom buildings during the rainy and dry seasons from October 2017 to May 2018. Approximately 7050 completed valid questionnaires were collected from 330 young children repeatedly surveyed twice a day. The children answered comfort questions at the same time the indoor and outdoor thermal variables were being measured. Results indicated that the combined ‘open-space’ classrooms produced a neutral temperature of 28.8°C with comfort range, 25.2–32.3°C. The neutral temperature of the combined ‘enclosed-plan’ classrooms is 28.1°C with 25.8–30.5°C as the comfort range. The differences in the comfort perceptions may be attributed to the differences in the architectural characteristics of both categories of classroom buildings. High temperature tolerance was shown by the participating children in the study area. This article, therefore, suggests that installing air conditioning in primary schools in the warm humid environment in Nigeria may not be necessary as it could lead to unnecessary energy consumption and carbon emission. Practical application: This work is part of the main research work that pioneers research on thermal comfort in public primary school classrooms in Nigeria. The findings from this study on the acceptable indoor temperatures in naturally ventilated classrooms in the warm and humid climate in Nigeria are important information for building services engineers and architects. The young children in these classrooms can accept high indoor temperatures. The intention of this information is to discourage high energy usage in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system in primary school buildings in the study area, while maintaining the acceptable thermal comfort levels.

Solid foundations and necessary change in forestry training (essay) With climate change and new demands from the public, the framework conditions of forestry work have changed significantly. More and more, foresters' competences must be wide, sound and interdisciplinary. For training, the biggest change has been the opening of a technical high school (Haute école specialisée) pathway in the space between the technical school (Ecole supérieure specialisée) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). The forest services would like to see pathways open up at Zollikofen towards a Masters in Life Sciences or other postgraduate qualifications (Master of Advanced Studies, specialised Certificates of Advanced Studies), so as to complete the range of training opportunities, from basic to postgraduate, which is necessary to understand the complexity of the forest system and hold responsible jobs. As for ETH Zurich, the forestry training has changed name and image, and is not well known to the public. It is therefore necessary to put it under the spotlight and promote it.

Abstract:
Approximately one in eight people in the United States have been diagnosed with asthma. Asthma is associated with significant medical expenditure and has been implicated as a leading reason for chronic school absences. Environmental risk factors such as access to green space and exposure to poor air quality are patterned such that some vulnerable populations may be at higher risk. Using data from DC Health, the Washington, DC, department of public health, this study investigated associations between neighborhood social, built, and natural environments and rates of asthma-related healthcare encounters by ZIP code between 2014 and 2017. We found that significant differences in rates exist between ZIP codes and for different subpopulations. Black boys had the highest overall rate, with 58.49 visits per 1,000 population, ranging by ZIP code from 0 to 88.56 visits. We found that the ZIP code Social Vulnerability Index was consistently associated with rates of healthcare encounters, but not access to green/open space or exposure to high traffic. However, we discuss how the ZIP code level may not be an appropriate level at which to investigate such built/natural environment features because of the proportion of variability that is found within rather than between ZIP codes. We end with a short discussion of ways that nurses, in particular school nurses, could help to address neighborhood environmental risk factors.

Abstract:
The main challenge in the development of scientific education in Malaysia is the lack of interest in science among students. One of the reasons for this discrepancy lies in the fact that these fields often require laboratory exercises to provide effective skill acquisition and hands-on experience. Physical experiments increase the costs due to their required equipment, space, and maintenance staff. A virtual laboratory can provide a cost-efficient way to organize high-quality laboratory work for many students. It is a damage resistance laboratory, thus opening the possibility to learn from mistakes. In Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, virtual laboratories can offer effective scientific exploration at a low cost. The objective of this research is to develop a platform for open-source virtual laboratories for STEM education inside and outside of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The virtual laboratory initiative is known as “AsperLabs”. This web-based interface offers several open-source virtual experiments for three subjects including physics, chemistry, and biology. Asperlabs have been utilized at Foundation level in UPM and STEM programs at local secondary schools. It has received positive feedback from students on both levels and will be included in the course materials for Foundation Program at UPM in the near future.

Abstract:
The inclusive trends of the mainstream of the education system in the Czech Republic not only affect legislative and economic changes, but the quality education platform is also determined by the arrangement of normal conditions in such a way as to create adequate space for all participating individuals. The key role of quality education in inclusive education is played by both the guidance system and the pedagogical and non-pedagogical staff of individual schools. Qualitatively Oriented Research of the Student Grant Competition of the Palacký University in Olomouc “Research of inclusion in individuals with special needs” (IGA_PdF_2019_024) builds on several years of research of the Institute of Special and Educational Studies. From the methodological point of view the qualitative design of the research was chosen. The research uses qualitative methods of data collection - in the form of semi-structured interviews. The individual data obtained from the research sample were transcribed and the data processed using the open coding technique in R Core (R Core Team, 2019). The research sample consisted of special educators, educational advisors and class teachers at the second stage of primary schools in the Czech Republic and contained interviews from 20 respondents in each category. Although the results of the research have shown the overall coherence of the system of care for individuals with special educational needs, this is largely influenced by the lack of awareness among individual school staff about the competences of all stakeholders in education. The individual settings of individual schools make it difficult to identify the general characteristics of an ideal model of collaboration between teaching staff, but despite this high variability, the core needs of all groups have been identified, which can be divided into administrative matters, mutual relations and communication.

Abstract:
Purpose Recognizing the close relation of educational philosophies and methods with the design of the built environment which accommodates them, the purpose of this paper is to bring insights to the issue through presenting the interpretations of one of the major user groups, educating staff, to determine the primary sources of the need for spatial change at primary schools in the local context. Design/methodology/approach A field study has been conducted with the participation of 142 teachers from 15 public primary schools located in a dense urban environment, in Bayrampasa district, Istanbul. Responses to the open-ended questions were analyzed through the use of the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process method. Findings The results indicate that the need for providing qualified spaces for physical activity and play as well as devoted subject-specific learning areas, utilization of outdoor spaces, accommodation of high numbers of students emerge as primary sources of the need for spatial change. Practical implications The contemporary child-centered and experience-based educational approaches of the twenty-first century, developed around carrying the learning activities beyond the traditional classrooms brought the formation of boundaries at schools under question. Regarding these ideas, flexibility and related concepts have become the common design aspects to come under focus for school architecture. In Turkey, there is an increasing trend in the production of educational facilities due to population growth and rapid changes in the educational system, which seems to proceed in the foreseeable future. The innovative proposals of school design indeed have the potential to contribute to the development of future school projects. Originality/value The study presents a unique contribution to the related literature through presenting empirical data from users’ perspective.

Abstract:
Recent emphasis has been placed on the effect the built environment has on physical activity levels of children. Children living in poorly planned or urban neighborhoods (areas with limited room or green space for play, lack of sidewalks and streets that do not connect) have less access to physical activity opportunities. The purpose of this article is to describe a shared venture between a public university, nonprofit organization and faith based organization to increase physical activity among children living in a city with limited open space. A mobile physical activity unit (MPAU), which consisted of a renovated passenger bus with playground equipment, was developed and utilized with the intent of providing safe, age-appropriate and supervised activities and games in a parking lot. Hence, children living nearby had access to a “playground” that was non-existent in their neighborhood. The MPAU was made available to children twice per week for 12 weeks. Attendance rates were high, and parents reported positive feedback. The findings suggest that in the absence of joint-use agreements for access to playgrounds after school hours, innovations such as the MPAU may be effective alternatives to increase children’s physical activity levels.

Abstract:
Can questions sent to Open-Educational-Resource (OER) websites such as Ask-An-Expert serve as indicators for students’ interest in science? This issue was examined using an online questionnaire which included an equal number of questions about the topics “space” and “nutrition” randomly selected from three different sources: a 5th-grade science textbook, the “Ask-An-Expert” website, and questions collected from other students in the same age group. A sample of 113 5th-graders from two elementary schools were asked to rate their interest level in finding out the answer to these questions without knowledge of their source. Significant differences in students’ interest level were found between questions: textbook questions were ranked lowest for both subjects, and questions from the open-resource were ranked high. This finding suggests that questions sent to an open-resource could be used as an indicator of students’ interest in science. In addition, the high correlation of interests expressed by students from the two schools may point to a potential generalization of the findings. This study contributes by highlighting OER as a new and promising indicator of student interest, which may help bring “student voices” into mainstream science teaching to increase student interest in science.

Abstract:
Abstract This article is one of the results of a research carried out with high schools in the city of Vitória (ES). This research proposal arose from the need to understand the manifestations of prejudice and different types of violence that historically happen in our social context and, more specifically, in the context of formal educational institutions. The aim of this research was to identify the main forms of prejudice and violence against ethnic, sexual, religious, and gender differences and diversities that occur within the context of high school institutions in the city of Vitória (ES). Upon accepting to participate in the research, questionnaires with semi-open questions about various topics that dealt with the prejudices and violence occurring within the school context were given to students and teachers, and the voluntary and confidential participation of the research was always informed. The results were divided between the identification of teachers and students, as well as their experiences regarding violence in the school context. Given the data presented and the discussion, it is possible to perceive that although the school is full of diversity present in its daily context, there are still many cases of prejudice, discrimination and other types of violence occurring in this space. It must be understood that any action in the school context is full of meaning and is linked to different conceptions of society and possibility of existence. When the school is positioned or not in the face of violence, this position is reflected in more authoritarian or democratic conceptions of society. Keywords: Education, Occupational Therapy, Violence.

Abstract:
The educational space consists of a number of important and interrelated components, some of them date back to the recent or distant past. There are components of such past, which in this regard can be of cognitive and scientific interest, in particular in relation to Ukrainian schooling. Width of this space keeps many questions open, which arouse and will arouse interest and need for clarification. One of such questions concerns existence, usage of firearms and knives by teachers and students and their attitude towards these articles. The study highlights usage of firearms and knives as a part of daily life of students of high schools in Kyiv's education district as well as of their teachers. Aspects related to following matters are studied: which types of firearms and knives were available to students and teachers, in which ways they came into hands of students and teachers, how they were used and for which purpose, which existential and social consequences they might have. Students and teachers were found to be dealing with shotguns, pistols and revolvers, as well as large knives and small penknives. The author pointed out that students were not allowed to use firearms; teachers could purchase them under certain circumstances. Knives used to sharpen pencils or quills were allowed to be used by students, whereas were forbidden to be used for other purposes. The study analyzes cases of usage of knives and shows that knives were used to intimidate, threaten or insult rivals or colleagues. Cases of usage of firearms and damages they caused were identified: suicide (very common cases), duel, hunting, reckless behaviour, and injuries or deaths as consequences. Access to firearms is related to negligence in their safekeeping, sometimes firearms were borrowed, purchased or appropriated. Usage of weapons and knives resulted in investigation, trial and imprisonment, expulsion from high school, or dismissal, injury and death. The author assumed that number of weapons kept at home as well as number of accidents was greater than nowadays.

Abstract:
AbstractToday, the vast majority of meteorological data are collected in open, rural environments to comply with the standards set by the World Meteorological Organization. However, these traditional networks lack local information that would be of immense value, for example, for studying urban microclimates, evaluating climate adaptation measures, or improving high-resolution numerical weather predictions. Therefore, an urgent need exists for reliable meteorological data in other environments (e.g., cities, lakes, forests) to complement these conventional networks. At present, however, high-accuracy initiatives tend to be limited in space and/or time as a result of the substantial budgetary requirements faced by research teams and operational services. We present a novel approach for addressing the existing observational gaps based on an intense collaboration with high schools. This methodology resulted in the establishment of a regionwide climate monitoring network of 59 accurate weather stations in a wide variety of locations across northern Belgium. The project is also of large societal relevance as it bridges the gap between the youth and atmospheric science. To guarantee a sustainable and mutually valuable collaboration, the schools and their students are involved at all stages, ranging from proposing measurement locations, building the weather stations, and even data analysis. We illustrate how the approach received overwhelming enthusiasm from high schools and students and resulted in a high-accuracy monitoring network with unique locations offering novel insights.

The application developed, namely e-botik, was an integration of several previously-designed applications using Code ignitor (CI) framework. The database used was My-SQL. It is commonly known that Code igniter is an open source web application framework utilized to create dynamic PHP applications. In this study, e-botik consisted of three main components including interface, database, and application programming interface (API). Some of the applications combined were ARtikon_joyful (Android-based), Video Kasumedangan Batik (movie player), Nalungtik Batik (desktop-based), Digi_Learnik (web-based), Batik UPI (manual), Batik Cireundeu (manual), and Lembar Balik (manual). The combination proceeded web-based so that it was compatible with various operating systems. The application (e-botik) was designed and then tested. The test was performed through whitebox testing and blackbox testing. The results of the test showed that it ran well and was able to be used a batik learning media. It is expected that students can utilize e-botik in selecting topics of learning batik in accordance with their competences and needs. This condition enables e-botik to support learning batik through heutagogical approach. In addition, the application was also validated in terms of both system and usage aspects.

Abstract:
We present results from the first year of a three-year extramurally funded project involving a partnership between an ethnically diverse urban high school and professional research botanists. The goals are to provide students exposure to real-world science, broaden interest in scientific fields of study, and increase floristic data and herbarium specimen collections in under-sampled areas of Solano County, California. A floristic survey was conducted in a 425-acre, open-space public park in Vacaville, California, that is actively grazed by cattle and characterized by grasses, forbs, and oaks. A total of 77 students were enrolled in the course associated with the partnership, and 47 participated in four visits to the collection site. Twenty-five unique plant specimens were collected, including 14 native and 11 introduced species. Results of a student perception survey suggest that the partnership has had a positive impact on students’ understanding of scientific methodology and interest in pursuing a science career. Perception survey results were disaggregated by ethnicity; Hispanic students, more than any other group, indicated that they feel more confident in scientific research and writing skills. There was no significant difference between male and female students’ responses.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the research of trends and mechanisms of STEM-innovations implementationin Ukraine. STEM – a series or sequence of educational programs designed to solve the problem of thescientific and engineering specialists lack for high-tech industries and raise the competitiveness of thestate. It is a priority in state policy towards economy strengthening and state social order to the educationalsector. Consequently, relevance of STEM in the modern European institutional space is beyond doubt. Inthis regard, attention is focused on measuring the understanding of STEM and its essence, on the prospectsand difficulties of implementing these social technologies in Ukrainian realities. The paper presents theresults of quantitative research conducted on the basis of author’s methodologies, members of teachingstaff, student youth, expert group and parents of high school students. On the basis of conducted monitoringresults calculation, comparing the answers of different categories of respondents, the authors attempt tosummarize the STEM technologies state in modern Ukrainian society and come to the conclusion that theimplementation of relevant innovations contributes to the dissemination of dialogue among all participantsin the educational process, parents and potential employers. Conducted research makes it possible to statethe following. Educators of experimental educational institutions have a sufficiently high level of motivationto innovate, open to cooperation and understand the importance of innovations in the modern Ukrainianschool. STEM topics of interest to students are clearly outlined. Therefore, the majorities of polled studentssupport the STEM direction and understand its prospects but do not understand in what sphere and wherethey will work in the future, even choosing the STEM profession. The results of the study showed thatmodern parents are motivated to influence the future profession choice their own children. However, thedirect parents’ influence on the future profession choosing is limited because a significant number of highschool students have their own opinion on this issue, which is in part or does not coincide, with parents.STEM innovations create a new space for a steady dialogue between educators, parents and employers forthe development of the economies of the states and engage youth in STEM industry.

Abstract:
The aim of this research was to give further evidence for the influence of vestibular and proprioceptive information on distance perception, and to verify how perceived distance changes if we use matching versus verbal judgment task. That is, the aim was to investigate how perceived distance changes when we bend over and look between the legs. The experiment was performed on a daylight open field (full-cue situation), with 20 participants, high school students from the Petnica Science Center. Participants had the task to match distances of two stimuli, one of which was in front of them at eye level, whereas the other was behind them, and they could observe it by bending their body forward and looking between the legs. Stimuli were 7cm*5cm large, and rectangular in shape. Results have shown that perceived distance changes in such a way that distances observed between the legs are perceived as longer than distances observed from an upright position. This difference in perceived distances exists only for larger physical distances (3m and 5m), but not for smaller physical distances (1m). Results coincide with our previous findings which indicate that vestibular and proprioceptive information change elongates perceived distance. On the other hand, the results contradict some findings gained in experiments in which the verbal judgment task was used. These contrary results probably appear because the verbal judgment task leaves more space for higher cognitive processes to be involved.

<p class="AbstractTitle"><em>Abstract: </em><em>Astronomy is a natural science that studies celestial objects and phenomena that include observation and explanation, occurs outside Earth and its atmosphere. Location of Indonesia which is at the equator enables the constellations in north sky and south sky can be observed very well. In Asia Pacific, astronomy in Indonesia is also growing and interested by many researchers from abroad. Astronomy also has relationship with aerospace engineering. Aerospace engineering studies about aircraft design. PT Dirgantara Indonesia is also the first and only one aircraft company in Southeast Asia. However, there are obstacles in these potentials, as in Indonesia, astronomy formal education is only at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Besides, facilities and infrastructures to study astronomy are still concentrated in Java. Yogyakarta is known as “Kota Pelajar” where the dynamics of education and tourism are strong enough to make it possible to deliver a High School of Astronomy and Aerospace, precisely in Gunungkidul Regency. Gunungkidul have ecological conditions that are still green and far away from the word "metropolitan" so as can be a place to facilitate astronomical observation. From this location, Sustainable Architecture becomes an approach that combines the aspects of efficiency, conservation, and durability that can be applied to the building and the environment. The efficiency is applied in energy use, particularly in the use of sun light and wind direction, as well as the efficiency of land use, so that not all of the site is covered by buildings that can provide green open space. On the conservation aspect is closely linked to sustainable development, especially in the use of natural resources. Conservation will keep the natural resources remain on a sustainable point. Durability is the resistance of a building and environment. In this case, how to make the building can last a long time because of the threat around the environment is minimized. Abstract:
Kuta Alam Subdistrict is one of the subdistricts in the Banda Aceh city that has a risk of fire disasters. This is because this area is a residential area with a moderate category. Semi-permanent buildings and temporary constructions are still at high risk of fire often found in the area. Based on the results of interviews with the Banda Aceh Fire and Rescue Service, there were 27 fire incidents from 2014 to 2017, of which 12 houses were burned down, 2 schools, 3 office units, and 10 other public facilities affected by the fire. This research is needed to improve the ability of people to prevent and protect themselves, especially in pre-disaster conditions so that they can reduce the fire incidence. The community capabilities in fire disaster mitigation are the methods used in this study. Subdistrict consist of optimizing land use in city development, minimizing street parking, increasing green open space, increasing the ability of water sources and wet towel / clothes as a method of fire outage if there is a small fire at home, access information about procedures for firing and providing early warning, and must be able to evacuate to the designated location.

Abstract:
The current analysis explored the relevance of colorism among Black girls enrolled at a predominately Black, all-girls high school, with a specific focus on their identities and well-being. Fifty-nine Black girls ( Mage = 16.97) completed a survey and semi-structured interview. Results from a two-step quant-qual analysis indicate a strong positive association between rejecting colorist ideology and positive self-esteem. Open coding of semi-structured interviews showed that 75% ( n = 44) of the sample spontaneously mentioned colorist ideology when describing their racial and gender identities, including references to skin color (56%), hair texture/style (50%), attractiveness/femininity (38%), and body type (18%). More importantly, 74% of these discussions indicated resistance to colorism illustrating Black girls’ engagement with and denouncement of ideologies of white supremacy, patriarchy, and anti-blackness. This critical qualitative analysis illustrates and offers guidance for practicing anti-racist adolescent research. We offer four insights: (a) consider the research spaces in which Black youth in our research are situated to better represent the diversity (and potential) of Black youth; (b) listen to and and follow the voices of Black girls; (c) attend to agency and resistance in development; and (d) recognize intersectionality as integral to anti-racist research.

Abstract:
AbstractSelf-disclosure is an individual's actions to share information about himself to others, whether it is private, less intimate or even everyday information. Adolescent with the development of personal space sometimes need distance and keep many secrets from their parents, and tend to be more open to friends. Parents who are worried about the child's social and personal life will do parental monitoring. Parental monitoring efforts are partly influenced by the social signals displayed by children, meaning that the strength of parental monitoring can be influenced by the degree of self-disclosure. On the other hand, children who try to disclose sometimes get different responses such as reacting positively or negatively from parents. Therefore, we assume that the strength of parental monitoring will also be influenced by parental knowledge. Self-disclosure will be a source of parental knowledge, and this knowledge then determines parental monitoring. If parents do not use the child's disclose to increase knowledge about the child, then the child's self-disclosure will not affect parental monitoring. Through a proportional stratified random sampling technique, it was obtained 394 high school students, to see the link between self-disclosure and parental monitoring with the mediation of parental knowledge. Data were taken using parental monitoring scale from Kerr and Stattin (a=0.83), self-disclosure scale from Wheeless and Grotz (a=0.67), and parental knowledge from Kerr and Stattin (a=0.73). Mediation test results with the model 4 Hayes PROCESS obtained that the relationship between self-disclosure and parental monitoring is fully mediated by parental knowledge of 0.10. This means that self-disclosure in high school students will affect parental monitoring, only if parents have adequate knowledge about their children.

Abstract:
Heat waves are the second leading cause of weather-related morbidity and mortality affecting millions of individuals globally, every year. The aim of this study was to understand the perceptions and practices of community residents and healthcare professionals with respect to identification and treatment of heat emergencies. A qualitative study was conducted using focus group discussions and in-depth interviews, with the residents of an urban squatter settlement, community health workers, and physicians and nurses working in the emergency departments of three local hospitals in Karachi. Data was analyzed using content analysis. The themes that emerged were (1) perceptions of the community on heat emergencies; (2) recognition and early treatment at home; (3) access and quality of care in the hospital; (4) recognition and treatment at the health facility; (5) facility level plan; (6) training. Community members were able to recognize dehydration as a heat emergency. Males, elderly, and school-going children were considered at high risk for heat emergencies. The timely treatment of heat emergencies was widely linked with availability of financial resources. Limited availability of water, electricity, and open public spaces were identified as risk factors for heat emergencies. Home based remedies were reported as the preferred practice for treatment by community members. Both community members and healthcare professionals were cognizant of recognizing heat related emergencies.

Abstract:
In this paper we grapple with the ways in which real-world issues directly impact children’s lives and ask what else gets produced through encounters with children’s global news media, specifically within the contexts of the United Kingdom and Norway. Our aim is to experiment with storytelling and worldling practices as a means to open up generative possibilities to encounter and reconfigure difficult knowledges. We take two contemporary events, the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire tragedy in London and the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting massacre in Florida, as a means to attend to ways in which affects are materialised across multiple times and spaces. News reports of these harrowing events, alongside what they produced in terms of child activism, racism and toxic masculinity, provided a catalyst for a feminist new materialist experiment in generating other knowledges through material-affective-embodied encounters. Newspapers, glue, sticky tape, string, torches, bags and a cartridge for a firearm were used in important work within a speculative workshop, where a small number of early childhood researchers came together to be open to multiple and experimental ways of (k)not-knowing to formulate collectively shared problems. Following Manning (2016), we recognise that to avoid getting stuck in familiar ways of thinking and doing we need to undertake research differently. We wondered how the re-materialisation of these events (through objects, artefacts, sounds and images) might shift our thinking about childhood in other directions. We dwell upon the affective work that these high-profile news events perform and how they might become rearticulated through affective encounters with materiality. Attending to how these events worked on us involves staying with the trouble (Haraway, 2016) as it becomes reignited, mutated and amplified across time and in different contexts. Our goal is to generate other possibilities that seek to reconfigure the ‘image of the child’. By resisting comforts of recognition, reflection and identification, we reach beyond what we think we know about how children are in the world and instead argue for their entanglement with difficult knowledges through our and their world-making practices.
