Abstract:
Several sustainable development indicators have been used to monitor and measure the progress of various countries. Similarly, reports and data available about countries progress prove that development has not been equal in all regions.  On the brighter side, the data can be used to inform decision making in areas that are experiencing deficiencies. In this research, a decision support system(DSS) is built to help governments and NGOs to properly choose projects that align with the needs of the people. We approached this research by utilizing Abraham Maslow’s proven psychological framework on the hierarchy of needs as the main criteria for choosing projects for sustainable development. The system ranks development projects based on the needs priority and how much it has been fulfilled. It ranks projects that meet an urgent need that is also lacking fulfillment higher than other project alternatives. The social progress index (SPI), a comprehensive open data that measures the social progress of counties were correlated to the needs indicated by Maslow’s Hierarchy. The needs were then used as criteria in the AHP decision analysis model to build a classic DSS to aid in selecting the most appropriate development project.

This work presents a new concept called Loss Equivalent Impedance (LEI), which is characterized by being a practical and economical method that allows calculating technical and non-technical losses in electricity distribution networks with good accuracy, for which it uses the data that any electric utility has, such as the user's electricity bills, the grid's electrical parameters and the measurements of power and currents at the substation coupling point. To show the application of this method, this document covers the data processing and description of the software used to simulate the operation in the test systems IEEE 13 and 37 buses networks, considering that they present technical and non-technical losses. In addition, these systems are evaluated with different operational conditions, including the incorporation of a photovoltaic plant. The cases evaluated in this work show that the method can be used to plan and monitor the electricity distribution networks, considering the separation of technical and non-technical losses, so that in future reduction actions concerning these losses can be managed, since of unmanaged electricity losses is translated into considerable economic losses for both the utility and customers and indirectly for the country. The results presented in this dissertation, regarding the application of the Equivalent Operational Impedance to the calculation of technical and non-technical losses, have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, so that it is foreseen a great potential for the application of the proposed procedure in the electrical sector mainly in the distribution utilities.

Abstract:
Main goal of creating the Open Source project and GPL licence are free sources and applications available for a wide public. Competent communities are responsible for support and upgrade of Open source based applications and softwares, which are created on a voluntary bases. Due to this fact an implementation depends on plenty others publicly available libraries and applications, which sometimes complicate the installation process itself. Successfully created VoIP connection is two-phase based process. Signalization is necessary in the first place, which might be supported with H.323 or SIP. After call parameter negotiation – voice codec, cipher code, ports etc, the second phase takes over to transfer voice. Theoretical part of this thesis describes SIP, H.323, MGCP, RTP and IAX protocols, as well as secure ways of signalization and voice stream part of the call. These might be SIPS, SRTP, ZRTP and IPsec. In thesis Open Source Asterisk PBX is well described, when mentioning its options, features and community support. I put near options available for particular releases and introduce attacks and abuses which are possible to perform on the VoIP system in general, together with available, no cost and working tools to perform the attacks with. Practical part focuses on possibilities to generate experimental attacks on individual systen parts with exact definition of what the consequences are. Based on the overall analyse of achieved results I conclude three solutions as autoinstallation linux packages. These „deb“ packages consist of specific Asterisk release required to meet the security needs, ready-to-test configuration and guide to follow with correct options to set. Final security possibilities requires hardening on application layer, where Iptables takes its part. „Linux firewall“ as some express Iptables are configured to reflect VoIP system parameters and protect from DoS attacks.

Distributed renewable generations such as photovoltaic units are electricity generators for installing close to the loads on the distribution system. In this paper, the dispatch function of a non-centralized Virtual Power Plant (VPP) with having a photovoltaic unit in each bus is considered to optimize. This dispatch function is assigned based on the predicted load shape of the next day. A new day-ahead hybrid optimization algorithm is presented to optimize the dispatch function. The proposed algorithm implements a new hybrid combination of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Optimization (GA) algorithms simultaneously to benefit both algorithms’ advantages. The objective function is the optimization of the voltage deviation of the VPP. The suggested algorithm is executed on a 13-bus-radial IEEE standard VPP system using MATLAB software coupled with open-source software called Open-DSS. The results show the importance of the proposed algorithm to optimize the voltage deviation of the VPP. The superiority of the proposed algorithm is related to the accuracy and calculation velocity in comparison with the other tested evolutionary algorithms. The Distribution System Operator could map and move towards its full benefits of the increasing integration of DGs with a strategic placement that could keen prosumers on integrating these actions.

Abstract:
The electricity supply industry is being restructured all over the world. Privatisation, with the emergence of Independent Power Projects (IPPs), especially in developing countries, and liberalisation of the power generation market are changing decision-making processes in a radical way. New challenges of deregulation and customer demands, and economic instabilities in south-east Asia, oblige electric utilities to face a double jeopardy: least-cost planning and least-risk investments. Consumers are encouraged to save energy and emission reduction policies are implemented to promote utilisation of high efficiency, clean power production technologies. The aim of this paper is to introduce the concept of life cycle risk management and Decision Support System (DSS) for open and combined cycle schemes, highlighting the market potential for Flexible Mid-size Gas Turbines (FMGT) in mid-merit applications. The DSS that has been developed at Cranfield University includes: plant simulation program, providing design and off-design performance, maintenance planning, component degradation, and load-following models. In addition several economic techniques based upon engineering finance and project accounting make power plant economic appraisals possible. The DSS also provides a Monte Carlo risk analysis in order to deal with technical and economic uncertainties in a very effective way. Case studies will stress several parameters that planners have to carefully assess when making decision in the context of the coming millennium, bringing all sorts of new challenges and areas of uncertainty that will be discussed in the paper.

Abstract:
Brodie, Katherine, Brittany Bruder, Richard Slocum, and Nicholas Spore. Simultaneous mapping of coastal topography and bathymetry from a lightweight multicamera UAS. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), August 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/41440.

Full text
Abstract:
A low-cost multicamera Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) is used to simultaneously estimate open-coast topography and bathymetry from a single longitudinal coastal flight. The UAS combines nadir and oblique imagery to create a wide field of view (FOV), which enables collection of mobile, long dwell timeseries of the littoral zone suitable for structure-from motion (SfM), and wave speed inversion algorithms. Resultant digital surface models (DSMs) compare well with terrestrial topographic lidar and bathymetric survey data at Duck, NC, USA, with root-mean-square error (RMSE)/bias of 0.26/–0.05 and 0.34/–0.05 m, respectively. Bathymetric data from another flight at Virginia Beach, VA, USA, demonstrates successful comparison (RMSE/bias of 0.17/0.06 m) in a secondary environment. UAS-derived engineering data products, total volume profiles and shoreline position, were congruent with those calculated from traditional topo-bathymetric surveys at Duck. Capturing both topography and bathymetry within a single flight, the presented multicamera system is more efficient than data acquisition with a single camera UAS; this advantage grows for longer stretches of coastline (10 km). Efficiency increases further with an on-board Global Navigation Satellite System–Inertial Navigation System (GNSS-INS) to eliminate ground control point (GCP) placement. The Appendix reprocesses the Virginia Beach flight with the GNSS–INS input and no GCPs.
