Abstract:
Orientation-patterned gallium phosphide (OP-GaP) has been grown heteroepitaxially on OP gallium arsenide (GaAs) templates using hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE). The effect of OP-GaAs template fabrication methods of epitaxial-inversion and wafer bonding on the heteroepitaxial OP-GaP growth has been investigated. OP-GaP layers with a growth rate of up to 35 µm/h and excellent domain fidelity were obtained. The growth rate and the domain fidelity have been revealed/studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition, we demonstrate that the crystalline quality of the individual domains, namely, the substrate-oriented domains (ODs) and the inverted domains (IDs), can be investigated by high-resolution x-ray diffraction reciprocal space mapping (HRXRDRSM), which can also indicate the domain fidelity. Attempts to increase the growth rate and improve the domain fidelity by increasing the III and V group precursors resulted in either an increase in the growth rate in the OP-GaP layers grown on epitaxial inversion OP-GaAs template at the expense of the domain crystalline quality and fidelity or an improvement in the crystalline quality of the domains at the expense of the growth rate in the OP-GaP layers grown on wafer-bonded OP-GaAs templates. In the case of OP-GaP grown on OP-GaAs templates prepared by epitaxial inversion, the crystalline quality of the ODs is better than that of the IDs, but it shows that the quality of the inverted layer in the template influences the quality and fidelity of the grown domains. To the authors’ knowledge, exploitation of HRXRDRSM studies on OP-GaP to establish the crystalline quality of its individual domains (ODs and IDs) is the first of its kind. OP-ZnSe grown on OP-GaAs templates has also been included in this study to further emphasize the potential of this method. We propose from this study that once the growth rate is optimized from SEM studies, HRXRDRSM analysis alone can be used to assess the structural quality and to infer the domain fidelity of the OP structures.

Abstract:
In the present study we evaluatedin vivoandin vitroeffects of 4-tert-octylphenol (OP) on the expression and distribution of adherens and gap junction proteins, N-cadherin,β-catenin, and connexin 43 (Cx43), in testes of seasonally breeding rodents, bank voles. We found that in bank vole testes expression and distribution of N-cadherin,β-catenin, and Cx43 were photoperiod dependent. Long-term treatment with OP (200 mg/kg b.w.) resulted in the reduction of junction proteins expressions (P<0.05,P<0.01) and their delocalization in the testes of males kept in long photoperiod, whereas in short-day animals slight increase of Cx43 (P<0.05), N-cadherin, andβ-catenin (statistically nonsignificant) levels was observed. Effects of OP appeared to be independent of FSH and were maintained duringin vitroorgan culture, indicating that OP acts directly on adherens and gap junction proteins in the testes. An experiment performed using an antiestrogen ICI 182,780 demonstrated that the biological effects of OP onβ-catenin and Cx43 involve an estrogen receptor-mediated response. Taken together, in bank vole organization of adherens and gap junctions and their susceptibility to OP are related to the length of photoperiod. Alterations in cadherin/catenin and Cx43-based junction may partially result from activation of estrogen receptorαand/orβsignaling pathway.

Abstract:
In recent years, there has been a raging controversy regarding the orbital symmetry of the superconducting order parameter (OP) in the high temperature superconductors. Many experiments were interpreted in terms of a dx2-y2-wave OP, but many others were interpreted in terms of a more conventional s-wave OP. We review the problems of both intrinsic and extrinsic natures with the phase-sensitive experiments on YBCO. We further show that the photoemission experiments of the purported superconducting gap in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O 8+δ are entirely consistent with charge- and/or spin-density wave formation in that material. The presence of such density waves greatly complicates the analysis of most experiments. Hence, we conclude that the orbital symmetry of the superconducting OP is still unknown in any of the high temperature superconductors.

Abstract:
There is a gap separating Kodály's Seven Pieces for Piano, op. 11 from his Nine Pieces for Piano, op. 3. The differences of style, structure, and texture cannot be explained in terms of development, let alone progress in any sense. With op. 11, Kodály undertakes a shift of paradigms from instrumental principles to a kind of vocal orientation within instrumental music. Op. 3 stands in the tradition of autonomous instrumental music, of Liszt and French music in particular, and displays similarities to early piano works by Bartók. In op. 11, that instrumental paradigm and its core principle of indirect expression are called into question. Instead Kodály aims at direct expression, vocality on the piano. Since a piano cannot sing, the pieces op. 11 can be seen as failing in terms of Classical-Romantic composing standards. This paper argues that in dealing with the distinction between instrumental and vocal music, Kodály takes up a major topic of Musical Modernism (Carl Dahlhaus) and exposes himself deliberately to the risky question of “When is Art?” (Nelson Goodman).

Abstract:
BackgroundPatients who have suffered fragility fractures are at an in-creased risk for subsequent fractures. The Osteoporosis (OP) Clinic at Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) was set up in July 2015 to screen, diagnose, and treat patients with fragility fractures. The goal of this study was to identify differences in OP screening and treatment initiation between patients seen in the OP clinic versus usual care.MethodsA retrospective cohort study and telephone interview was conducted on 40 patients who had sustained a hip fragility fracture between September 2015 and July 2016. 20 of those patients were referred to the OP clinic, while the remaining patients received usual care. ResultsAt the end of the intervention, 16/20 patients in the OP clinic group were appropriately placed on a bisphosphonate/RANKL inhibitor versus only 6/20 patients in the usual care group (p < .01).ConclusionsA significant care gap exists in secondary fracture prevention between the osteoporosis clinic and usual care groups. Better screening and subsequent intervention are needed for patients with fragility fractures. This study highlights the efficacy of an outpatient OP clinic in a community hospital setting.

Abstract:
Abstract The development of the textile industry in Indonesia is rapid. It cause serious environmental problems because the dyes used in the textile industry are synthetic that is azo dyes. Azo dyes are non-biodegradable substances that pollute the environment if not processed. One of the azo dyes that is often used in the textile industry is Methyl Orange. Photodegradation is an inexpensive and environmentally friendly method of removing synthetic dyes. This study will discuss the effect of adding orange peel on the characterization of ZnO and the ability to degrade Methyl Orange. The results of the FTIR spectra showed an absorption in the area of 1430-1455 cm-1 that means the orange peel had been impregnated into ZnO and the more ZnO as added on orange peel, it may reduce the number of -OH and CH groups of the ZnO/OP composite. Based on the results of characterization using XRD, it is known that the addition of orange peel into ZnO did not damage the crystal structure and crystal form. The crystal structure of ZnO/OP formed was wurtzite with a hexagonal shape. The results of the characterization using DR-UV showed that the band gap energy of ZnO/OP was smaller than ZnO and the more ZnO was added, the wider the band gap of energy. ZnO/OP with a variation of 1:25 can degrade Methyl Orange more than ZnO that was 73% in 60 minutes.

Abstract:
It is shown by direct calculations that in a superconductor with a slightly violated d-wave symmetry of the order parameter (OP) the impurity driven phase transition from the gapless superconductivity to a state with a finite gap takes place at zero temperature. The corresponding scattering rate is close to the value at which the superconductivity vanishes in the d-superconductor. The behavior of the transition temperature, the OP and the density of states (DOS) is analyzed. The model is plausibly relevant to the BSCCO 2:2:1:2.

Abstract We show that optical properties change when the fullerene structures of Au32, Cu32 and Ag32 inflate and deflate. We first observe significant differences in the extinction spectra employing a classical approach based on the Green’s dyadic method. By means of real-time time-dependent density functional theory. We continue to calculate the optical spectrum (OP) via a δ-kick simulation, comparing results with the ground-state energetic property the HOMO–LUMO (HL) gap. Red-shift of the OP is expected as the fullerenes inflate, with only ±10% change in the size. As the fullerene breathes, a 0.8 eV shift in the first peak position could be observed in the gold nanoparticle. Ag has a smoother behaviour than both Au and Cu. We have also found changes in the optical spectra can not be directly interpreted as a result of changes in the HL gap.

Abstract:
This article integrates three central theories of optimism–pessimism (OP). The combination of the shared components of these theories – outcome expectancies, emotions, and behavioral intention – may produce an integrative academic achievement evaluation. Little has been written regarding the differentiation between general and domain-specific OP, a factor that is essential in describing the evaluation process of academic achievement. In this paper, we will examine this differentiation and discuss how an integrative model of the three theories is strengthened by two domains: (a) heuristic versus systematic processing styles and (b) the level of confidence in the accuracy of evaluating events. The gap between required confidence in high-personal-interest domains and actual confidence in moderate general OP influences systematic processing style and planned behavior. Based on these principles, an intervention program is suggested.

Abstract:
The vibrational transition $|v=1, J=1, - angle leftarrow |v=0, J=1, + angle$ in the a$^3Pi_1$ state of CO is measured at the kHz level as 51399115447(3) kHz. The measurement is done on a pulsed, supersonic molecular beam. The achieved relative accuracy is $6cdot 10^{-11}$, more than four orders of magnitude better than previous measurements. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part treats the generation of coherent radiation in the mid-infrared by difference frequency generation of two near-infrared lasers in a custom-made orientation-patterned gallium phosphide (OP-GaP) crystal. This novel nonlinear material is extensively characterized. This crystal is particularly interesting for its wide transparency range, its high nonlinear coefficient, and for the possibility of quasi phase-matching with the widely used 1064-nm lasers. Then, it is explained how the accuracy and the stability of the frequency standard at the national metrological institute (INRIM) is transferred to the 6-micron radiation using a 642-km long fiber link and an optical frequency comb. The mid-IR source is characterized in terms of phase noise power spectral density. The second part of the thesis deals with the experimental setup and the spectroscopic measurement. After a brief discussion of the carbon monoxide energy levels and experimental apparatus, the high precision measurements are presented. The effects of stray fields, mainly magnetic, and of the Doppler shift are extensively discussed.

Odendaal, Elizabeth Margaretha. "Invloed van besigheidsrisiko op die omvang van 'n oudit." Diss., 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/15688.

Full text
Abstract:
The existing audit risk model does not take business risk into account. The aims of this study are, firstly, to do research on the necessity of taking business risk into account in the audit risk model, and secondly, to indicate the influence of business risk on the audit risk model and on the scope of an audit. In this study, both audit and business risks were researched and it was determined that the existing audit risk model only considers the probabilities that auditors can give incorrect opinions. This study proposes a method whereby an auditor can consider both his own business risk and that ofhis client in determining an audit risk that is acceptable to him and in determining the scope ofhis audit. In addition to the probabilities of incorrect decisions by auditors the consequences thereof are also considered, thus limiting the auditor's engagement risk.

Abstract:
As the reversible pump-turbines operate in the S-shaped region, instability problems including backflow, vortex formation and rotating stall may appear. Previous researches studied instabilities at different guide vane opening (GVO) on their inception and evolution but few studies explored the effect of the blade lean at the leading edge. In present work, two runners tested by experiments, the runner A with a negative and the runner B with a positive blade lean at leading edge, were studied in CFD mode with a reduced scale model. Six operating points, namely, best efficiency point (OP#1), two points in the normal operating region (OP#2, OP#3), two points near runaway line (OP#4, OP#5) and a low discharge point in turbine brake (OP#6) were calculated for both runners. As the discharge reduces, the flow in the runners loses its symmetry and the efficiency becomes lower and lower. The flow of OP#1, OP#2 and OP#3 is healthy but slight separations locate near the inlet of the passages. At OP#4, obvious vortexes occupy the passages and the visible vortexes prevent the flow from entering the channels. The blockage generates strong backflow near the inlet of the runner. Moreover, the main backflow area locates near the hub for runner A while for runner B it is near the shroud. Unsteady vortex formation and rotating stall respectively exist at the near runaway points (OP#4 and OP#5) and low discharge point (OP#6). At these three points, the pressure fluctuations in the vaneless gap between the runner and guide vanes are very high and the amplitude shows a small difference between the two runners. Dramatic distinction appears on the frequency of the fluctuation. For both of the two runners, a peak corresponding to 70% fn, where fn is the runner rotating frequency, rises in the spectra of OP#4 and OP#5. This peak appears at all the monitors in the vaneless space at the same time standing for the unsteady vortex formation, which does not rotate with the blades. In addition, at OP#6, 40% and 50% fn are detected as the dominant frequencies for runner A and runner B respectively. In addition, the propagation of such two low frequency signal along the annulus in the vaneless space proves the existence of the rotating stalls.

Abstract:
Bridging the skills gap is necessary to increase productivity and equity. In Latin America and the Caribbean, this challenge has manifested in high rates of youth unemployment, informality, and inactivity. Traditional higher education has struggled to respond to this challenge, with rising costs limiting access and poor outcomes forcing students to question the value of a university degree. In this paper, we explore a model for collaboration between higher education providers and employers designed to overcome these challenges. In this co-op model, students earn a bachelors degree in three years, while also working part-time during the second and third years. This model provides students with the foundational skills and knowledge needed to become broad, interdisciplinary thinkers, while also giving them valuable work experience for which they earn credit while pursuing their degree. Economic constraints are addressed by students degrees being partly subsidized by an employer, who benefits by easily hiring employees who can fill their most critical human resource needs.
