Full textOf the Swedish internet users, 83 percent use social media and 63 percent of them use socialmedia daily. The new technology have created a platform for sexual offenses. The laws do notinclude sexual offenses via social media. The study shows that lack of knowledge andbehaviour among internet users are two major problems. There are no statistics on the mostcommon sexual offenses on social media, but according to the interviewees, sexually abusivesex crime is the most common sexual crime that occurs on social media. The problem of sexual offenses on social media should be seen as a problem of human rights and should be dealt with on a deeper level. Responsibility lies with more individuals than the police and more knowledge is needed in the area to be able to educate all respective who have a connection to the internet. Further research on methods for counteracting sexual offenses on social media can lead to aids for those organizations who can make change.

Full textIntention and questions The intention of the study is to investigate the ideal body that upper secondary school students come across in social media. The study also aims to inquire students experiences on how the subject of physical education and health takes discussing in body images and ideal in social media. From the purpose of the study, these questions formulations are presented. Which types of bodies are exposed in social media according to the students? Do the exposure from social media affect the student own body image linked to physical training, if yes, in what way? Do the students experience the exposure of physical training and body image in social medias are adapted and worked on in the pedagogy subject of physical education and health? Method Three focus group interviews were implemented on secondary school students in the district of Stockholm. The interviews have been analysed through a thematic analysis and the results have been categorised according to pre-arranged themes. Results The interviews illuminated that the exposure of images of the ideal body in social media effects youths to a great extent and can lead to consequences. Further on this seems to be a subject that is not discussed or dealt with in school, particularly not in the subject of physical education and health even though it is a part of the curriculum. Conclusion In the study it seems to emerge that social media is transmitting a body image that seems far away from how your own body appears. An unachievable ideal is created where conceptions and attitudes to the bodies that does not look like the ideal effects youths which in worst cases can lead to very damaging consequences. This seems particularly to be something that is not of high priority in school and there is definitely a gap to fill since it is a part of the curriculum in both elementary and upper secondary school.

Full textAs today's consumers become increasingly aware of the global, social and environmental consequences that our consumption brings, has in recent years influenced companies' way towards business ethics and sustainability. Therefore, corporate responsibility for the environment and society has become a central subject in business decisions, also known as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The purpose of CSR is to encourage and integrate the work of ethical, financial, social and environmental aspects of business processes, and in relation to stakeholders, in addition to what the law requires. One tool that is becoming more common among companies when communicating their CSR work, is via social media. The increased use of social media has changed the communication for both companies and consumers, as it has created new opportunities to integrate with one another. The use of social media can thus be an effective tool in market communication, as it can be used as a direct communication tool to its target groups, as well as be used to build, maintain and nurture the relationship with its consumers. In addition, social media has increased the transparency, as it creates accessibility to information, whereas the consumers have more information and insight about companies today. Which demands on companies' marketing communications to be handled effectively, not least in the field of CSR, since social responsibility is a highly debated topic among today's consumers. Companies are becoming more aware of the possibilities of using social media, however, if it is not used or handled properly, it can also prove to be an obstacle as it is an advantage. Since social media creates an opportunity for consumers to provide feedback, which in many cases within CSR can be negative, it can also create the opportunity to easily spread Negative Word of Mouth (NWOM). Thus, communicating CSR on social media can therefore be a challenge for companies. If companies can manage social media, it can be used as an effective marketing communication tool. Therefore, it is important to use strategies that can handle possible conflicts that may arise in discussions of CSR on social media. If it is not handled, it can affect consumers' attitudes and purchase intentions, and ultimately their relationships with a brand. The purpose of this study is to investigate and observe strategies in market communication with CSR discussions on the social media platform, Facebook [Facebook pages]. Furthermore, identify possible challenges that the observed strategies pose, with the aim of gaining an increased understanding of strategy management in market communication. To study CSR communication on social media, the study has delimited to the cosmetics industry, as an empirical context, due to currently great discussions about CSR among consumers. The study resulted in a CSR-integrated relationship management model and observed two main categories: Verbal and non-verbal relationship management strategies. which includes four different management strategies; accommodating, defensive, censorship and non-engaging. The study also resulted in different difficulties companies have when using social media [Facebook pages] within the field of CSR. It observed three major difficulties/challenges; (1) It is difficult to satisfy a displeased consumer within the concept of CSR, due to the concept of CSR goes beyond the transaction and it is more based on an individual's emotions. As CSR is a complex subject, the difficulty of compensating a dissatisfied customer becomes challenging as CSR is about integrating social and environmental responsibility into the entire business model. (2) CSR discussions are difficult to manage for companies with traditional customer service strategies in social media marketing and webcare. (3) Companies that do not have integrated CSR into their business model from start, finds it difficult to create, maintain and nurture the relationship with their consumers within CSR discussions.

Full textAbstractTitle: A Study of Social Media in the WorkplaceLevel: Bachelor thesis in Information Systems 15 Hp.Author: Tobias LarssonAdvisor: Bengt NilssonExaminer: Bengt NilssonProblemThe problem area in this study is the possible link between social media and community spirit in the workplace. By studying the impact of social media and what effect it can have on the affinity using the theoretical models. The analysis part of the study should describe this connection.MethodThe essay´s interest area is to examine what can be studied through a qualitative research method. Qualitative research methods indicate that it is people and groups that are observed by these studies. Qualitative research method has the focus area of social assumptions and how you study what they want to describe as their reality. Qualitative survey methodology means that the study examines the behavior and patterns through interviews or observations.ConclusionsBased on the presented study the author explains how social media affects affinity. Respondents explain that social media works as an arena and door opener. The initial and most important contact is made orally. However, they believe that social media is a platform where they can share ideas, thoughts and information. Social media opens and also creates a new contact route between colleagues. A contact route that the respondents mean is readily available and effective. Results show that motivational factors and the symbolic value of fun and humor are essential in the workplace, creating a strong community.Further researchFrom this study, the following suggestions are given for further research: A longer longitudinal study at a workplace with continuous monitoring during the different stages of the individuals employment. Investigate further factors such as policies and social media to be or not be in a workplace. A further deepening in the area of social media, why it is used etc. It is also possible to make a comparative study of different types of work, an experimental studies in which social media first would be allowed to use and then not, or vice versa. A similar studie as this can be made but in greater extent, in order to create a greater understanding of the subject.ContributionsThe earlier research which is presented in the essay has not examined what this study is meant to do. What this study would investigate and attempt to discover is if social media are affecting the community spirit among employees in a workplace. This study leaves and contributes knowledge about the subject social media and what impact it may have in the workplace. The study is of interest because social media is described as something that is becoming increasingly important and more central in the workplace, which is also supported by the earlier research. The conclusion and analysis of the study can be used in an attempt to understand these factors .The study may be of interest to workplaces as a help for understanding the potential impact of social media usage in their organization.Key WordsSocial media, Facebook, Twitter, Blog, Vlog, Affection, Community spirit, Symbolism, Humor and Fun

Full textToday’s technology offers a variety of ways for people to communicate and interact with each other. This paper is a study of photo sharing through social media networks with a focus on the amateur photographers’ usage of this technology in order to widen the spread of their pictures. A key focus was placed on what kinds of strategies were used, but also on what kind of motivations the photographers had. Using previous research and in depth interviews we’ve managed to combine our own empirical data with our theoretical interpretations and have come to the conclusion that the use of social media in the purpose of reaching out with photos to other people varies greatly depending on the person being asked. Thus, how this technology is used depends wholly on the individual user. However, we have managed to identify some similarities in the usage social media for these purposes.

Full textThe aim of this essay is to study individual’s experience of creating their own identity on social media. Eight people have been interviewed about their experience of how their use of social media can be a part of creating their own identity. The sociological problem is based on the awareness that images displayed on social media often are excessively perfect or positive. Despite this, people are experiencing pressure regarding achieving the perfect life, or at least give a sense of it on social media. The study results in three main themes, which are "identity", "control of impressions" and "requirements". These three themes contain quotes from the empirical material which are analyzed and linked to theory. The concepts discussed are essentially identity, individualization, self-reflexivity, impression management and standardized behavior. The results of the essay show that social media is a large part of the project candidates lives, and contributes to many impressions and experiences that shape the personality and identity. The project candidates can to some extent choose what impressions they want to get and thus choose, for example, what type of people they want to be influenced by. Contacting likeminded people through social media can also form the identity, and the project candidates feel influenced of what they see in social media to a degree when their own opinions become weaker. Regarding the possibility to choose what they want to share, the have the possibility to control what kind of impression the environment get. They do not always act in a way that is deliberately misleading, but regardless it leads to the surroundings getting an unrealistic picture of the project candidates lives. They experience a difference in their own actions on social media and beyond, and thus, a difference in identity is perceived. On social medias, the project candidates display an image that they are energetic and positive. The essence of the essay is the project candidate’s comparison with others, which can be experienced problematic with the impression control on social media. Actions on social media takes place according to a certain approach and within a certain framework where only certain events occur. In conclusion, it can be said that the framework for what belongs on social media is created and maintained by users, partly through impression control. This framework presented on social media is found to be a part of the individualization as well. The individual can fulfill her dreams with the freedom she has, and this fact can create a stressful situation and apply pressure on the project candidates.

Full textOver recent years it has become increasingly common for the general populous to use social media, especially for companies and consumers in the tourism industry. This affects the way potential consumers learn about new destinations and also influences their opinions on said places. The aim of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of how destination marketing is interpreted by consumers. In order to achieve this, two questions needed to be answered: How do consumers come across destination marketing on social media? and In what way do consumers feel destination marketing impacts their purchasing decisions? Interviews were conducted with 20 consumers to obtain qualitative data in order to gain an insight on the consumers perspective. Empirical data was analyzed using five different theories: Social Media Marketing, The Buyer Decision Process, WOM and eWOM, Personal Characteristics Affecting Consumers Behavior and Push- and Pull Factors. This study shows that consumers encounter destination marketing on social media often and also that destination marketing has a significant influence on consumers purchasing decisions as it encourages travel and allows selection of destination.

Full textThis essay is about how social media affects Swedish consumers purchasing decisions. New social media services such as Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram have gained a growing popularity among people. Intensive technology development has helped consumers to make their purchases in a variety of ways. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how social media affects consumers purchasing decisions in relation to how consumers use social media when purchasing clothing products. The method approach chosen to be used is a quantitative method consisting of a survey. A selection was made where only women in the ages 20-50 have been studied. Finally, the results of the survey are reported. The result has been coded thru SPSS to clarify the relationships between the variables. The theory chapter seeks to provide a picture of the general impact that can occur in the consumers buying journey. As a result, the main theory, Instagram, the online buying process and e-WOM, which form the basis of the survey, are presented. Finally, the study's research model and how the different theoretical parts are connected are presented. Two hypotheses have also been developed to test whether a relationship exists between them. The results of the survey show that there are more options for purchasing ready-to-wear clothing online, where the consumers value availability, prices, convenience and information research when making the purchase. The respondents in the survey show that these features influence their purchasing decisions and that needs are the most important part of the buying process on Instagram. In addition, the study’s findings indicate that consumers' tendency toward impulse purchases has evolved using social media, such as Instagram. A conclusion is drawn, which shows that consumers active participation for entertainment on Instagram leads to them being exposed to advertisements and discounts that increase their buying desire and possible purchasing decisions.

Full textThis study examines media company’s rules and guidelines when it comes to employee’s use of social media, as well as the guidelines impact on the employees. The purpose is also to get an insight in the employees relation to the boundaries between work-life and private life on social media, based on a professional context. To do this, a multiple case study research method has been used, where qualitative interviews has been done. Three media companies have participated, where two interviews on each company has been conducted. The companies work with their strategies for social media and the impact on the employees has been examined and analysed. The result shows that all of the examined companies have different work processes when it comes to social media, but it also shows that the corporate culture has a major role in how the companies and employees look at the use of social media. Except the corporate culture, experience, personal interest and habits also affect how employees deal with social media, as well as influence them. A conclusion is that personal strategies can be used to handle the boundaries between work-life and private life on social media.

Full textToday, social media are a major part of our everyday lives, and surveys show that young women are the largest group of users. It is also the ones who feel the most of their own appearance and body to the greatest extent. The purpose of the study was to investigate how young women relate to the body ideals produced on social media and how this ideal affects their body image. This was done using seven qualitative interviews with women between 18 and 29 years. To gain an understanding of the purpose, their own and others' presentations on social media were also investigated. The empiricism was analyzed using Charles Horton Cooley's theory of the looking-glass self, Leon Festinger's theory of social comparison, and Erving Goffman's theory of impression management. The study's findings show that the use of social media can have a negative impact on the body's perception of the interviewees, but also on their self-image in general. This is because the ideal made visible through social media results in the interviewees not only comparing women's bodies but also women in general whose appearance and person is the opposite of themselves. This makes them feel insufficient. They relate to this ideal by changing their exercise and dietary habits as well as highlighting their best sides to control others' impressions as well as to imitate the ideal. The study shows that the interviewees 'presentation on social media is in line with other members' presentations. This means that users of social media create and maintain together a framework for what is expected to appear on the various platforms. This results in the interviewees contributing to the negative impact they imply on social media. Keywords: Social media, body image, body ideal, young women

Full textIn the spring of 2017, Sweden experienced a crisis when the most deadly act of terrorism since 1940 occured; a truck drove through a crowd of people on Drottninggatan in Stockholm, hitting several people and killing five. The event spread rapidly in social media and the circulating information was in part unconfirmed data that later turned out to be incorrect. The purpose of this study was to generate recommendations regarding emergency communicators’ proactive work against false information and the spreading of rumors on social media, while at the same time be a foundation for future studies within crisis informatics. To achieve this purpose six respondents from Krisinformation.se and the Swedish police were interviewed and a timeline (Bilaga 3) was created in order to clarify the chain of events on social media during the act of terrorism. Analysis of data from the aggregated material has resulted in ten recommended measures applicable to proactive work against false information and spreading of rumors in social media. Measures that can be applied generally to actors within crisis management. These measures were: Practice; Monitor; Create material; Be quick, Be correct; Be present; Respond to rumors; Be available; Educate; Crowdsource.

Full textIn this qualitative study, we examined how young girls describe being influenced by social media use and whether their behaviour might have a resemblance to an addictive behaviour. The data material consisted of three focus groups with young girls aged 15-18. In total, 18 participants were included. During the focus groups, five themes emerged which then came to characterize the result. These themes are presented as; Positive aspects of social media use, False relationships/Communication, The sense of self, The sense of pressure and stress in relation to social media and Mobile dependency. The analysis was based on two theories. Goffman's theory of social interaction and identity creation as well as Butler's theory of performative identity. Dependency diagnostic criteria were used to compare participants' responses. The result shows that the young girls who participated in the study are influenced by social media use based on the various themes mentioned. However, the girls do not meet all the requirements to be able to classify this phenomenon as an addiction. In conclusion the participants consider social media to be a major part of their everyday lives that contributes to both positive and negative aspects in the girls' lives.

Full textThis paper studies design patterns. Existing, known pattern libraries have been used as a foundation for a new pattern template. Six new design patterns have been identified and created from social media with the help of pattern mining, these are: the like button, hashtag, share, comment, posting pictures and news feed. Furthermore, interviews have been conducted with seven respondents from different Stockholm based web design agencies to examine how these six identified design patterns have affected their web design. A central part of this study has also been to see if web design agencies even use design patterns when they are building a web site. After the interviews it is clear that the majority of web designers have not heard about design patterns the way this paper defines them. Web designers are working with inspiration from other web sites to help them find design solutions and they are also following trends in web development. Of the six design patterns from social media only three are regularly used, the like button, share and news feed.

Full textPurpose: The purpose of the study is to map how influencers argue for socially important issues, personal issues and for products / brands they market on social media. The rhetorical models, and the theoretical models parasocial relations and the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) will be applied to identify whether rhetorical arguments are important in the creation of relations. The study also aims to gain an understanding of why followers listen to influencers' recommendations. Method: The study uses a qualitative method in the form of a content analysis and focus group interviews. Findings: Based on the content analysis, it appears that the rhetorical arguments ethos, pathos, and logos are often used in influencers' arguments through social media. The most common argument was pathos, which consisted of at least 50% of the posts for paid collaborations. The focus groups show that the younger generation is more motivated to follow and act on influencers' recommendations than the older generation. Conclusion: The study shows that influencers frequently use rhetorical arguments to convey a message on social media. The posts that influencers produce enable the creation of parasocial relationships which in turn leads to purchase intentions. The rhetorical arguments influencers use also lead to followers, wanting to act on their recommendations / buying advice. It is also through rhetorical arguments that influencers create parasocial relationships with their followers. The study also indicates that there are differences between the younger and the older generation, where the younger ones find it easier to enter into parasocial relationships with influencers.(This thesis is written in Swedish)
