Abstract:
This writing analyzes a short story entitles The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas written by Ursula Le Guin which highlights the elements of Utopia and Dystopia found in a society as reflected in the text such as the happiness, cheerfulness which are almost perfect. Besides, the feeling of secure is also felt by the inhabitants of Omelas so that they don’t need a government to manage their life. On the contrary, the element of dystopia is ironic, in which the happiness felt by the people is paid by a little child who is locked in dark, small room. This child is victimized to guarantee the perfect life of the people in Omelas. Consequently, those who can’t accept this reality decide to leave Omelas, they are the ones who walk away from Omelas. Related to that, this analysis applies descriptive analysis in which the result will be explained descriptively. From the description, it will show how the elements of Utopia and Dystopia are reflected in the life of the people in Omelas which describe the society of Omelas and its belief in Sacrificing the child for the sake of the happiness of the community.

Abstract:
This study examines the concept of utilitarianism presented in the short story "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" in "The Wind's Twelve Quarter" by Ursula K. Le Guin. Through an ethical approach in sociology literature, this study aims to analyze the ethical implications of collective action in achieving general happiness in Omelas. Through analysis of the sociology of literature, this study reveals the social practices of utilitarianism presented in the story. In utilitarianism through ethical theory developed by philosophers Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill, argues that a good action is an action that produces as much happiness as possible for as many people as possible. In the context of this short story, society has collectively chosen to maintain general happiness by ignoring the fate of the oppressed individual. This raises deep ethical questions about the justice and morality of emotional action. This study also analyzes the attitudes of individuals who choose to leave Omelas. This action shows disapproval of the principle of utilitarianism which sacrifices one individual for the sake of broad happiness. The attitude of individuals who dare to walk raises ethical overtones about our responsibilities to society and individuals. Through an analysis of ethical theory in a literary sociology approach, this study concludes that "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" pushes to limit the ethical boundaries of utilitarianism and change moral compromises in achieving peace. The social and psychological implications of this story awaken our awareness of the moral dilemmas associated with emotional action and raise deep ethical questions about human values and justice. Abstract:
Science fiction is gaining academic recognition as a tool for teaching ethics and engaging potentially resistant students in communication and critical thinking, but there are not many lesson plans available for how to implement science fiction in the classroom. I hope to address that gap by sharing a successful lesson plan I developed while teaching a first-year composition and ethics course at the Colorado School of Mines. “Stand Where You Stand on Omelas” combines writing, communication, and ethical decision making by asking students to defend what they would do as a citizen in Ursula K. Le Guin’s short story, “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas,” where a young child’s torment ensures the prosperity and happiness of society as a whole.

Abstract:
“The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson and “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” by Ursula Kroeber Le Guin are two stories depicting societies in which adhering to the traditionally imposed ‘scapegoating’ ritual ensures the prosperity of the majority of the population. Previous researches that analyzed the two texts, singularly or in tandem, predominantly emphasize the human capacity for evil as inherent in these communities through their traditions and some, admittedly, highlight the impact these traditions have on the individuals living in such communities. But no research has used the postulations of Friedrich Nietzsche in this regard. This paper intends to provide insight into this unexplored area by investigating the communities portrayed in the two stories, their respective traditional values and the community members in light of Nietzsche’s ‘master-slave morality.’ The purpose of this research is to find out how traditions exist in those communities, how these traditions are constituted by particular values, how these values are, in turn, enforced by these traditions, how those values correspond to the Nietzschean concepts, how the members represent different Nietzschean types, and how they respond to the aforementioned values. Thus, the theoretical framework is based on Nietzsche’s categorization of human beings into ‘master type and slave type’ categories as well as his theorization of ‘master-slave morality.’ Some definitional understanding of ‘tradition’, ‘master’ and ‘authority’ assist in this regard as well. The discourse of “The Lottery” as well as “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” has been considered in light of such theoretical and conceptual understandings to assess the dynamics of the communities they depict. This paper’s investigation of the communities & the members found in “The Lottery” and “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” shows that – traditions existing in those societies enforce particular values & these values, in turn, sustain those traditions; some of the members, e.g. – Tessie, who protests against the stoning ritual & the ones in Omelas who show dissatisfaction with the child’s cruel treatment, can be categorized to be master types as theorized by Nietzsche and the ones to comply with the scapegoating process(es) can be categorized as slave types. This adherence by the slave types and the consequential peaceful prosperity implicates the values being discussed as Nietzschean slave values. This study further shows that the scapegoating ritual(s) is imbued with a utilitarian stipulation for the ‘greater good for the greater number’ which creates a moral judgment & this moral judgment is used by the slave types to justify their complicity in the seemingly required cruelty and by the community itself to dominate the master types, as a result of which the master types are faced with a duality of choices – to accept the traditions of their communities, or to leave.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The phrase “ambiguous utopia” was coined by Ursula K. Le Guin in the subtitle of her novel, The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia (1974). That work appeared when utopian narratives had been displaced by dystopian imaginaries. This article embarks on a comparative analysis of three short stories: Ursula K. Le Guin’s “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” (1973), Angélica Gorodischer’s “Of Navigators” (1979), and N. K. Jemisin’s “The Ones Who Stay and Fight” (2018). Each author installs ambiguity at the center of their open-ended utopian imaginaries as a way to challenge dogma, pessimism, and complacency. Le Guin interrogates the boundary between belief and knowledge to hold the threat of authoritarianism at bay. Gorodischer, a friend and contemporary of Le Guin, is considered a central figure of Argentine science fiction and fantasy. Her story imagines the discovery of a second Earth set in 1492 and highlights the need for utopianism to challenge the legacy of colonization. Finally, Jemisin’s story is a critical homage to “Omelas.” Jemisin shares the decolonial impetus of Gorodischer’s fiction, and she constructs Um-Helat on an explicitly antiracist foundation. Instead of walking away, her characters actively fight the creeping threat of intolerance while working toward that better place.

More specifically, both stories offer complicated and nuanced considerations for how we respond methodologically and pedagogically to systemic oppressions and violence as feminist subjects.

Those Who Walk Away from Omelas and Those Who Turn Away from Catalonia. Catalan Independence Aspirations in the Context of Political Human Rights Symbols of the independence movement − whether in the form of yellow ribbons, attached to clothes by the inhabitants of Catalonia or slogans, painted on the facades of buildings and calling for the restoration of freedom of those detained after the referendum of autumn 2017 − have become an almost integral part of Barcelona, photographed by foreign tourists with no smaller the frequency than architectural works of Antonio Gaudi. The fact that so-called “Catalan case” arouses growing interest of external observers, became possible not only thanks to the activities of the separatists themselves, who try to draw the attention of the international community, but also due to legal, ethical and moral doubts that constitute not background, but rather the first plan of Spanish-Catalan political struggles.

For over a centurynow, dystopian visions of the future have been an integral part of the strategies through which literature reacts to changes in the world. However, dystopia is not always an entirely new world. Sometimes, it is an element in a world born from a utopian impulse. The article explores the variations of the dystopianin two such worlds influenced by the works of William James: Bernard Wolfe's Limboand in Ursula K. Le Guin's The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas. The analysis adopts the concept of dystopia as utopia’s shadow, and traces the moments when the world, the body, and the language of the Utopian begin to waver and transform into the voice of the Dystopian.

Abstract:
The logical argument from evil, generally thought to have been defused by Alvin Plantinga’s free will defense, has been reinvigorated by James Sterba’s exposition and defense of a new version of the argument that draws on recent work in moral philosophy. Whereas J.L. Mackie’s argument uses what can now be seen to be overly simplistic principles to try to establish a logical incompatibility between the existence of God and any evil at all, Sterba’s argument uses more sophisticated moral principles and seeks to establish a logical incompatibility between the existence of God (specifically, the God of Perfect Being Theology) and specific sorts of evil that our world contains. Here, I provide a brief exposition of Sterba’s argument and then sketch one possible theistic response to the argument. On the basis of that discussion, I conclude that Sterba’s argument is not decisive as it stands. However, I then develop a revised version of Sterba’s argument and argue that the Perfect Being Theist faces the following dilemma: she can answer the revised version of Sterba’s argument only by accepting a position that is deeply at odds with commonsense morality. Therefore, although Sterba’s argument does not quite succeed, it points us in the direction of a serious problem for Perfect Being Theism.

Abstract:
The improvement of the recipe composition of the quality of the omelet with the use of natural raw materials – bee pollen, honey, egg powder has been studied. Inclusion in the recipe of bee pollen will help to obtain a functional omelet omelette. The article highlights the results of the study of organoleptic parameters. The positive effect of the api-egg omelet is due to the mutual complex influence of all components and their number. According to organoleptic studies, the best results were obtained in example 2. Replacing sugar with honey in the omelet can reduce the amount of carbohydrates, not only improves the taste and healing properties, but also allows people with diabetes, obesity, as well as children to consume it, etc. The method of preparation of the omelet is as follows: lemon zest, bee pollen are added to the apiya-egg omelette mixture, the mixture is thoroughly mixed, poured into a portion pan with melted fat, fried on both sides for 5–7 minutes. Bee pollen is a biological stimulant that has a beneficial effect on the human body. The protein complex (26 %) in pollen consists of 22 amino acids, including a number of essential ones, and bee pollen also contains 28 chemical elements. Especially a lot of iron, potassium, as well as copper, cobalt. We studied api-egg omelette, which includes: cream or pasteurized milk, butter, egg powder, bee pollen, natural lemon zest. In this article, the quality was determined by organoleptic method. The literature available to us does not establish the combination and use of bee pollen, egg powder for the preparation of api-egg omelette. Given that chicken eggs are one of the most valuable human food and are used in the preparation of many dishes, especially egg omelets, as well as information about the nutritional and biological value of omelets, we consider it appropriate to use bee pollen to produce omelets to improve health. of people of all ages. Based on the research, it can be argued that the use of opiya egg omelette, dishes with bee pollen, will expand the range of omelets and increase the biological value of the finished product. Inclusion in the recipe of bee pollen, honey will help to obtain a functional omelet. The positive effect of the opiya egg omelette is due to the mutual complex influence of all components and their quantity. Organoleptic evaluation of the quality of the apiya-egg omelette was performed on the following indicators: color, smell, taste, consistency, harmony of the additive. The results of a comprehensive organoleptic evaluation of an api-egg omelet made in accordance with the proposed method are shown in Fig. 4, the highest indicators of sample 2, namely, points: color – 4.86, odor – 4.92, taste – 5.0; consistency – 5.0, the harmony of the additive – 5.0, which confirmed its high consumer organoleptic properties. Cooking an omelet in the proposed way is possible in almost different conditions, where there are means of cooking: fire, utensils, liquid, cream.

The Confréérie mondiale de les chevaliers de l'omelette gééante (World Fraternity of Knights of the Giant Omelet) spreads good cheer in several countries of the French-speaking world through the making and sharing of giant omelets. The tradition began in 1973 in Bessièères, France, where the townspeople fed indigent families in town. The practice of making a giant omelet soon spread to Frééjus, France; Malmedy, Belgium, and other cities with francophone histories: Dumbééa, New Caledonia; Granby, Quebec, and Abbeville, Louisiana. Each omelet has a regional flavor. The Louisiana omelet is influenced by Cajun and Creole cooking traditions. In Belgium, the omelet is made with pork lard. The recipe for Granby's more traditional omelet is familiar to most Quebecers: eggs, salt, parsley, thyme, pepper, scallions, and olive oil. In this case: fifteen thousand eggs, four liters of salt, five thousand scallions, and twenty liters of extra-virgin olive oil. The omelet is calculated to serve ten thousand.

Abstract:
This study analyzed the chemical composition of the dorsal muscle tissue of Hypophthalmus edentatus, in particular, fatty acids of the lipidic fraction, and its relationship with the biological variables and the capture period. The average values for moisture, ash, protein and total lipids were 63.15, 1.11, 14.27 and 17.24%, respectively. In the lipidic fraction, 35 fatty acids were identified, the most abundant being: 16:0, 18:1omega9, 18:0, 16:1omega7, 18:3omega3, DHA and EPA. The totals of respectively saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids were 41.15, 35.30 and 23.88%. The PUFA/SFA ratio was equal to 0.68 and the omega3/ omega6 ratio equal to 1.98. The PCA demonstrated that the long chain PUFAs contributed positively to the formation of the first axis. The CCA showed some effects of the biological factors (weight, reproductive cycle, sex) and the capture period on the variation of total lipids and some fatty acids.

Abstract:
Dairy products represent an important source of beneficial substances for humans. At the same time, they can expose the consumers to environmental contaminants ingested by animals through their diet, influencing their health negatively. This experiment aims to evaluate the risk and benefits related to the consumption of typical stretched cheeses, considering their fatty acid (FA) profile and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) content. Six representative farms, two of them organic, raising Cinisara cattle were selected, considering the typical extensive management systems, based on feeding of natural pasture integrated with concentrate and hay depending on the availability of forage on pastures. A total of 18 cheeses produced in winter, spring and summer with bulk milk of each farm were sampled and analyzed. The chemical composition of cheeses was influenced by farm management, and the FA profile mainly by the season. In particular, cheeses made in spring showed a healthier FA profile with the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), of omega3-PUFA and omega6/omega3 ratio pair to 7.29%, 1.44% and 1.32, respectively, while in winter 5.44%, 0.98% and 2.55, respectively, and in summer 4.77% 0.49% and 3.04, respectively. Due to high levels of feeding integration, cheese made in winter presented unhealthier characteristics compared to the cheeses made in spring and summer, showing high levels of saturated FA (66.2%, 64.2% and 65.5%, respectively), and large contents of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) (57.07 ng/g fat, 36.25 ng/g fat and 10.22 ng/g fat, respectively) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (36.19 ng/g fat, 4.68 ng/g fat and 3.73 ng/g fat, respectively), mainly in those from non-organic farms. Levels of PCBs considered to be hazardous to human health were found in nine samples.

Abstract:
The combination of consumer’s ongoing demand for chia (Salvia hispanica L.) alongside the increased demand for regionally produced food products provided the impetus for this study. Its aim was to test if a regional cultivation of new chia genotypes, which were adapted to day lengths greater than 12 hours, is feasible under Central European conditions. Therefore, three early flowering chia genotypes (Sahi Alba 914, W13.1, G8) were cultivated in a randomized block design at two experimental stations in Southwestern Germany (Ihinger Hof, Eckartsweier) over the course of two years (2015, 2016). Mean yields ranged from 100 to 1290 kg ha−1. Mucilage content ranged from 9.5% to 12.2%, while the crude protein content ranged from 17.2% to 25.0%. Crude oil content fell in the range of 30.9–33.7% and the PUFA:SAT ratio ranged from 4.0 to 9.4, whereas the omega6:omega3 ratio varied from 0.27 to 0.5. As chia seed yields surpassed yield levels obtained by their countries of origin and as quality parameters obtained, were in line with the genotypes cultivated in their countries of origin, it can be assumed that a regional chia production in Southwestern Germany offers great potential, being ecologically and economically profitable.

Abstract:
The present paper makes a review of the current industrial hemp uses, given the biological, ecological, technological, sociological and economic properties of its cultivation and capitalisation. The whole plant can be processed with zero waste. The oils from the organic hemp plant, with a complex composition, being non-toxic and processed by modern technologies, can be used as raw materials for the manufacture of phyto-medicines and food supplements or for cosmetics products, according to the bio-circular economy principles. In our case study, such oils produced in an organic processing facility are analysed. The chromatographic analysis showed a balanced ratio of unsaturated fatty acids (omega6 / omega3). After processing the aerial part of the hemp plant (herba) to obtain CBD (cannabinoid) oil, the remains are used as the plant base for the production of bio-compost, and after the cold pressing of seeds, the resulting parts are dried and ground. The resulting powder, which represents a rich source of quality, easily digestible proteins, can be used in the bio-economic circuit for obtaining premixes (for human and veterinary use), bakery products, protein bars and various functional foods.

Abstract. The California Current Large Marine Ecosystem (CCLME), a temperate marine region dominated by episodic upwelling, is predicted to experience rapid environmental change in the future due to ocean acidification. The aragonite saturation state within the California Current System is predicted to decrease in the future with near-permanent undersaturation conditions expected by the year 2050. Thus, the CCLME is a critical region to study due to the rapid rate of environmental change that resident organisms will experience and because of the economic and societal value of this coastal region. Recent efforts by a research consortium – the Ocean Margin Ecosystems Group for Acidification Studies (OMEGAS) – has begun to characterize a portion of the CCLME; both describing the spatial mosaic of pH in coastal waters and examining the responses of key calcification-dependent benthic marine organisms to natural variation in pH and to changes in carbonate chemistry that are expected in the coming decades. In this review, we present the OMEGAS strategy of co-locating sensors and oceanographic observations with biological studies on benthic marine invertebrates, specifically measurements of functional traits such as calcification-related processes and genetic variation in populations that are locally adapted to conditions in a particular region of the coast. Highlighted in this contribution are (1) the OMEGAS sensor network that spans the west coast of the US from central Oregon to southern California, (2) initial findings of the carbonate chemistry amongst the OMEGAS study sites, and (3) an overview of the biological data that describes the acclimatization and the adaptation capacity of key benthic marine invertebrates within the CCLME.

Abstract:
AbstractFix a nonzero window ${g\in\mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R}^{n})}$, a weight function w on ${\mathbb{R}^{2n}}$ and ${1\leq p,q\leq\infty}$. The weighted Lorentz type modulation space ${M(p,q,w)(\mathbb{R}^{n})}$ consists of all tempered distributions ${f\in\mathcal{S}^{\prime}(\mathbb{R}^{n})}$ such that the short time Fourier transform ${V_{g}f}$ is in the weighted Lorentz space ${L(p,q,w\,d\mu)(\mathbb{R}^{2n})}$. The norm on ${M(p,q,w)(\mathbb{R}^{n})}$ is ${\|f\/\|_{M(p,q,w)}=\|V_{g}f\/\|_{pq,w}}$. This space was firstly defined and some of its properties were investigated for the unweighted case by Gürkanlı in [9] and generalized to the weighted case by Sandıkçı and Gürkanlı in [16]. Let ${1<p_{1},p_{2}<\infty}$, ${1\leq q_{1},q_{2}<\infty}$, ${1\leq p_{3},q_{3}\leq\infty}$, ${\omega_{1},\omega_{2}}$ be polynomial weights and ${\omega_{3}}$ be a weight function on ${\mathbb{R}^{2n}}$. In the present paper, we define the bilinear multiplier operator from ${M(p_{1},q_{1},\omega_{1})(\mathbb{R}^{n})\times M(p_{2},q_{2},\omega_{2})(% \mathbb{R}^{n})}$ to ${M(p_{3},q_{3},\omega_{3})(\mathbb{R}^{n})}$ in the following way. Assume that ${m(\xi,\eta)}$ is a bounded function on ${\mathbb{R}^{2n}}$, and define$B_{m}(f,g)(x)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}}\int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}}\hat{f}(\xi)\hat{g}(% \eta)m(\xi,\eta)e^{2\pi i\langle\xi+\eta,x\rangle}\,d\xi\,d\eta\quad\text{for % all ${f,g\in\mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R}^{n})}$. }$The function m is said to be a bilinear multiplier on ${\mathbb{R}^{n}}$ of type ${(p_{1},q_{1},\omega_{1};p_{2},q_{2},\omega_{2};p_{3},q_{3},\omega_{3})}$ if ${B_{m}}$ is the bounded bilinear operator from ${M(p_{1},q_{1},\omega_{1})(\mathbb{R}^{n})\times M(p_{2},q_{2},\omega_{2})(% \mathbb{R}^{n})}$ to ${M(p_{3},q_{3},\omega_{3})(\mathbb{R}^{n})}$. We denote by ${\mathrm{BM}(p_{1},q_{1},\omega_{1};p_{2},q_{2},\omega_{2})(\mathbb{R}^{n})}$ the space of all bilinear multipliers of type ${(p_{1},q_{1},\omega_{1};p_{2},q_{2},\omega_{2};p_{3},q_{3},\omega_{3})}$, and define ${\|m\|_{(p_{1},q_{1},\omega_{1};p_{2},q_{2},\omega_{2};p_{3},q_{3},\omega_{3})% }=\|B_{m}\|}$. We discuss the necessary and sufficient conditions for ${B_{m}}$ to be bounded. We investigate the properties of this space and we give some examples.

Abstract:
The growing demand in natural matrices that represent a source of dietary and nutraceutical molecules has led to an increasing interest in Cannabis sativa, considered to be a multipurpose, sustainable crop. Particularly, the considerable content in essential fatty acids (FAs) makes its derived-products useful food ingredients in the formulation of dietary supplements. In this research, the FA and triacylglycerol (TAG) composition of hempseed oils and flours were investigated using gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry and flame ionization detection as well as liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS), respectively. Furthermore, a recently introduced linear retention index (LRI) approach in LC was successfully employed as a useful tool for the reliable identification of TAG species. A total of 30 FAs and 62 glycerolipids were positively identified in the investigated samples. Relative quantitative analyses confirmed linoleic acid as the most abundant component (50–55%). A favorable omega6/omega3 ratio was also measured in hemp-derived products, with the α-linolenic acid around 12–14%. Whereas, γ-linolenic acid was found to be higher than 1.70%. These results confirm the great value of Cannabis sativa as a source of valuable lipids, and the further improvement of the LRI system paves the way for the automatization of the identification process in LC.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Asbtrak The omed-omedan tradition is a tradition of ancient heritage, passed down and performed by generations of Banjar Kaja Sesetan residents. Omed-Omedan is an entrenched tradition in accordance with the times while staying true to the prevailing norms. The uniqueness of the omed-omedan tradition attracts the attention of foreign tourists, turning it into an icon of Denpasar City. More than just a tradition, Omed-omedan contains aesthetic values. The present study on the aesthetic values in the omed-omedan tradition is a qualitative research and the data in this study are qualitative data. The theory used herein is the theory of aesthetics. Based on the results of study, the omed-omedan tradition contains subjective, objective and Hinduism aesthetic values related with: 1). Satyam (Truth), 2). Siwam (Sanctity) and 3). Sundaram (Harmony). The Subjective aesthetic value lies in an inherent aesthetic value seen in the attraction that creates drama in the form of tragedies or events that occur suddenly. The objective aesthetics contained in the omed-omedan tradition can be enjoyed by the audience both through sensory absorption and technological absorption. The sacred value lies in that when the omed-omedan tradition is carried out, it begins with the first nedunin sesuhunan, namely he who is worshiped and purified, is present to witness the omed-omedan tradition which will be held in that place.

AbstractObjective:To evaluate the safety of phosphatidylserine (PS) enriched with omega3 fatty acids, mainly eicosapentaenoic (PS-Omega3) in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).Methods:Two hundred children diagnosed with ADHD were randomised to receive either PS-Omega3 (300 mg PS-Omega3/day) or placebo for 15 weeks. One hundred and fifty children continued into an open-label extension for an additional 15 weeks in which they all consumed PS-Omega3 (150 mg PS-Omega3/day). Standard blood biochemical and haematological safety parameters, blood pressure, heart rate, weight and height were evaluated. Adverse events and the Side Effect Rating Scale were also assessed. Results:One hundred and sixty-two participants completed the double-blind phase. No significant differences were noted between the two study groups in any of the safety parameters evaluated. One hundred and forty participants completed the open-label phase. At the end of this phase, no significant changes from baseline were observed in any of the studied parameters among participants who consumed PS-Omega3 for 30 weeks. Conclusions:Study results demonstrate that consumption of PS-Omega3 by children with ADHD, as indicated in a 30-week evaluation period, is safe and well tolerated, without any negative effect on body weight or growth.
