Abstract:
AbstractObjectivesTo investigate the food intake of Slovenian adolescents and to compare it with food-based dietary guidelines developed for children and adolescents, named the Optimized Mixed Diet (OMD). The OMD is a useful tool for the evaluation of food intake of adolescents.DesignAll adolescents completed an FFQ at a regional health centre; a subgroup also completed a 3 d weighed dietary protocol at home.SettingThis study is a part of the first national representative study on the dietary habits of Slovenian adolescents.SubjectsThis cross-sectional study included a representative sample of 2813 Slovenian adolescents entering high school, aged 14–17 years, from all ten geographical regions of Slovenia.ResultsThe greatest deviations from the recommended intakes of the main food groups in the OMD were significantly lower intakes of (P < 0·001, mean): vegetables (179 and 163 g/d in boys and girls, respectively), bread/cereals (271 and 226 g/d), potatoes/rice/pasta (212 and 163 g/d); in boys also a significantly lower intake of fruits (mean: 321 g/d, P < 0·001) and a significantly higher intake of meat/meat products (mean: 126 g/d, P < 0·001). Additionally, the results show too high intake of sugar-sweetened beverages and too low intakes of fish and plant oils in both genders.ConclusionsThe food intake pattern of Slovenian adolescents deviates markedly from a healthy eating pattern. Nutrition education and interventions are needed for Slovenian adolescents.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different hormonal protocols on the reproductive performance of Santa Inês ewes in Amazon environmental conditions. Twenty-two Santa Inês ewes between 3 and 4 years-old were distributed in a randomized block experimental design, where the treatments consisted of two protocols for estrus synchronization (short and long) with eleven animals each. Data on the occurrence of estrus were described for each protocol. Data of estrus, pregnancy, and prolificity were firstly subjected to ANOVA and a subsequent Tukey’s test. Results were considered significant at p ≤ 0.05. The short-term protocol presented an interesting successful rate, where above 70% ewes tested had estrus. The long-term protocol also achieved a high successful rate, where above 80% ewes tested had estrus. However, comparing the protocols, the long-term protocol presented better results of positive estrus and pregnancy rates in ewes. Thus, it can be concluded that both protocols presented satisfactory results regarding estrus manifestation, and prolificity (lambs produced per ewe). However, under Amazon environmental conditions, the long-term protocol presented better results regarding positive manifestation of estrus and pregnancy rate.

EFFECT OF DIFFERENT PUBERTY-INDUCTION METHODS ON REPRODUCTIVE RESPONSE IN NELLORE HEIFERS ABSTRACT: Examines the influence of different puberty induction protocols in Nellore heifers. Data referring to 1528 Nellore heifers related to the result of gynecological evaluation before the induction protocol; body condition score (BCS); average heifer weight and age; induction protocol used; and result of pregnancy diagnosis. After data tabulation, statistical analyses were performed using the Chi-Square test. For BCS, 100% of the females were classified between 3 and 3.5. In terms of age and weight, 30.9% had an average age of 14 months and weighed approximately 270 kg, whereas 69.1% were around 20 months old, with an average weight of 320 kg. Heifers that underwent an induction protocol showed an 8.3% higher pregnancy rate. The protocol that involved only long-acting injectable progesterone (P4) provided the same results as the treatment with the reusable intravaginal device associated with estradiol cypionate. In conclusion, progesterone is effective for inducing puberty in Nellore heifers from 14 months of age with an average weight of 270 kg. in addition, the use of injectable P4 can be an effective alternative as an induction protocol for prepubertal Nellore heifers. Keywords: conception rate; hormonal treatment; ovulation induction; progesterone.

Abstract:
We examined the effect of an age-related leftward shift in the force-frequency relationship on the comparative quadriceps fatigability of nine young (27 ± 1 yr old) and nine old men (78 ± 1 yr old) during low-frequency electrical stimulation. Two different protocols of intermittent trains (6 pulses on, 650 ms off) of electrical stimulation at 25% maximum voluntary contraction were performed by both groups: 1) 180 trains at 14.3 Hz [constant frequency (CF) protocol], and 2) 180 trains at the frequency corresponding to 60% of each subject's force-frequency curve [normalized frequency (NF) protocol; young 14.9 ± 0.4 vs. old 12.7 ± 0.5 Hz; P < 0.05]. The quadriceps of the old men were weaker (∼31%) and relaxation was slower compared with the young men, as assessed by the maximal relaxation rate constant of the 50-Hz tetanus (young 12.1 ± 0.2 vs. old 9.2 ± 0.5 s-1; P < 0.05) and a leftward shift in the force-frequency relationship. The NF protocol revealed a decreased fatigability in the quadriceps with old age (percentage of 1st contraction force remaining at 180th: old 63.4 ± 1.5 vs. young 58.2 ± 1.7%; P < 0.05) that was masked during the CF protocol (old 60.7 ± 1.6 vs. young 58.6 ± 2.3%; P > 0.05). Irrespective of the protocol, the maximal relaxation rate was reduced to ∼73 and ∼57% of the prefatigue value in the young and old men, respectively. The age-related leftward shift in the force-frequency relationship of the quadriceps contributed to an underestimation of the fatigue resistance with old age during the CF protocol. However, when the stimulation frequency used in the NF protocol was adjusted to account for the age-related shift in the force-frequency relationship, the quadriceps muscles of the old men were less fatigable than those of the young men. Thus we suggest that whole muscle fatigability is better examined by electrical stimulation protocols that are adjusted for inter- and intragroup differences in the force-frequency relationship.

Abstract:
Secure multiparty computation (MPC) requires the messages transmitted in secure channels which can provide encryption and authorization to the messages. To implement a secure channel for MPC protocols, researchers have tried some communication protocols, such as TLS and Noise. However, these methods have some limitations. These protocols need a trusted certification authority to provide identity authorization which is difficult for an MPC protocol, and how participants manage the key of each party and how to use the key to establish communication is also a problem. A Signal protocol is an end-to-end encryption communication protocol, which is known as the most secure communication protocol in the world. Based on the Signal protocol, we implemented a signal-based secure multiparty computation protocol, which can run the MPC protocol and transmit messages through a signal-based secure channel. Compared with previous research on the MPC protocol over Signal secure channels, the new MPC client adds group communication of the Signal protocol to transmit messages, which significantly improves the communication efficiency of broadcast messages of MPC protocols. To test the communication efficiency of the new MPC client, we implemented a concrete BLS threshold signature protocol on the new client, comparing the elapsed time of key generation and signing on the new client to that on the client only using Signal end-to-end communication. According to our experiment result, we found that the new client run at least 37.48% faster than the old client on the BLS threshold signature whose number of parties ranges from 3 to 5, if the parties have sent Signal group messages to each other. The more parties in the MPC protocol, the higher the proportion of broadcast messages and the more obvious the performance improvement of the new client. Our work improves the performance of MPC secure channels based on the Signal protocol, especially for complex MPC protocols with many participants.

Abstract:
Abstract The use of pediatrics-inspired protocols in adolescent and young adult (AYA) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) results in superior survival compared with the adult protocols. Pediatrics-inspired protocols carry an increased risk of toxicity and treatment-related mortality in low resource settings, which can offset the potential benefits. We studied the outcomes and prognostic factors in the treatment of AYA ALL with a pediatrics-inspired regimen. We retrieved data regarding demographics, investigations, treatment details, and toxicities from the electronic medical records of patients diagnosed with ALL in the 15- to 25-year-old age group who were initiated on a modified Berlin-Frankfurt-Münster 90 (BFM-90) protocol between January 2013 and December 2016 at the Tata Memorial Centre. A total of 349 patients in the 15- to 25-year-old age group were treated with a modified BFM-90 protocol. The use of this pediatrics-inspired protocol resulted in a 3-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) of 59.4% and 61.8%, respectively. Only 15 patients underwent an allogeneic stem cell transplant. Minimal residual disease (MRD) persistence postinduction emerged as the only factor predictive of poor outcomes. A modified BFM-90 protocol is an effective and safe regimen for AYA ALL with an OS and EFS comparable to the published literature.

IPv4 is the network protocols of the present Internet, which is characterized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Network protocols characterize guidelines, polices and traditions for communication between system devices. Every advanced protocol for computer organization utilizer a packet switching system to send and get the message. The protocols are intended to conquer the activities of any enemy that can lose the sent message, discretionarily change the fields of the sent message, and replay old messages. In the web, the colossal measure of information and the immense number of various protocols makes it perfect as a high-bandwidth speed vehicle for undercover communication. Abstract:
Introduction. Neurofeedback (NF) is an adjuvant or alternative therapy for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This study intended to compare the efficacy of two different NF protocols on clinical and cognitive symptoms of ADHD. Materials and Methods. In this clinical trial, sixty children with ADHD aged 7 to 10 years old were randomly grouped to receive two different NF treatments (theta suppression/beta enhancement protocol and theta suppression/alpha enhancement protocol). Clinical and cognitive assessments were conducted prior to and following the treatment and also after an eight-week follow-up. Results. Both protocols alleviated the symptoms of ADHD in general (p<0.001), hyperactivity (p<0.001), inattention (p<0.001), and omission errors (p<0.001); however, they did not affect the oppositional and impulsive scales nor commission errors. These effects were maintained after an eight-week intervention-free period. The only significant difference between the two NF protocols was that high-frequency alpha enhancement protocol performed better in suppressing omission errors (p<0.001). Conclusion. The two NF protocols with theta suppression/beta enhancement and theta suppression/alpha enhancement have considerable and comparable effect on clinical symptoms of ADHD. Alpha enhancement protocol was more effective in suppressing omission errors.

As satellite ground systems migrate toward network-centric, distributed architectures, controlling remote ground equipment becomes a central issue. While many protocols and approaches exist that address remote control and status, there is little agreement on a common solution. Device vendors and system integrators commonly find themselves integrating multiple protocols to meet a wide range of requirements. Technologies change and new protocols evolve that result in yet more options to be considered. However, the fundamental aspects of device control remain constant. The Ground Equipment Monitoring Service (GEMS) seeks to define a standard model for device control independent of the underlying protocols and technologies. Using this approach, a wide range of protocols can be mapped to the GEMS model. Systems using different protocols can then rely on the common mapping and utilize translators to connect heterogeneous components with little integration costs. This paper describes the state of the specification and potential uses of the GEMS specification in Satellite Ground Systems. Interactions between the GEMS specification and other standards such as the CCSDS SLE Complex Management services are also presented.

Mestrado em Engenharia Eletrónica e Telecomunicações
The digital revolution of the 21st century contributed to stem the Internet of Things (IoT). Trillions of embedded devices using the Internet Protocol (IP), also called smart objects, will be an integral part of the Internet. In order to support such an extremely large address space, a new Internet Protocol, called Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) is being adopted. The IPv6 over Low Power Wireless Personal Area Networks (6LoWPAN) has accelerated the integration of WSNs into the Internet. At the same time, the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) has made it possible to provide resource constrained devices with RESTful Web services functionalities. This work builds upon previous experience in street lighting networks, for which a proprietary protocol, devised by the Lighting Living Lab, was implemented and used for several years. The proprietary protocol runs on a broad range of lighting control boards. In order to support heterogeneous applications with more demanding communication requirements and to improve the application development process, it was decided to port the Contiki OS to the four channel LED driver (4LD) board from Globaltronic. This thesis describes the work done to adapt the Contiki OS to support the Microchip TM PIC24FJ128GA308 microprocessor and presents an IP based solution to integrate sensors and actuators in smart lighting applications. Besides detailing the system’s architecture and implementation, this thesis presents multiple results showing that the performance of CoAP based resource retrievals in constrained nodes is adequate for supporting networking services in street lighting networks.

Abstract:
Rumen microbiota enable dairy cattle to breakdown fiber into useable energy for milk production. Rumen bacteria, protozoa, and fungi ferment feedstuff into volatile fatty acids (VFA), the main energy source, while methanogens utilize fermentation by-products to produce methane. Milk fat contains several bioactive rumen-derived fatty acids (FA), including odd-chain FA (OCFA) and branched-chain FA (BCFA), important for maintenance of human health. The overarching dissertation goal was to determine which factors affect rumen methanogen and protozoal community structures and their metabolism products, while defining relationships between rumen microbiota and animal performance. Results presented contribute to the goals of providing new knowledge to dairy farmers, maintaining ruminant health, and enhancing bioactive FA in milk. The first objective was to use next-generation sequencing techniques to determine if lactation stage and dairy breed affect rumen methanogen and protozoal community structures and protozoa cell FA compositions in Jersey, Holstein, and Holstein-Jersey crossbred cows at 3, 93, 183, and 273 days in milk (DIM). A core methanogen community persisted by lactation stage and breed. At 3 DIM, methanogen 16S rRNA gene sequences formed distinct clusters apart from 93, 183, and 273 DIM, reflective of the dietary transition period post-partum. The starch-utilizing protozoal genus Entodinium, was more abundant in Holsteins than in Jerseys and Holstein-Jersey crossbred cows and positively correlated with milk yield. Jerseys had greater iso-BCFA contents in protozoa and milk and protozoa of the genus Metadinium. The second objective was to determine if supplementation of mixed cool-season grasses with annual forages (AF) alters the forage, microbial, and milk FA contents during typical periods of decreased pasture growth in Northeastern US. In short-term grazing (21d) of AF, ruminal VFA and major rumen-derived FA were not altered in bacterial and protozoal cells, suggesting little alteration of biohydrogenation and maintenance of ruminant health. In spring, milk contents of iso-15:0 and 17:0 per serving of whole milk were greater in control (CON)-fed cows, while contents of 12:0 and 14:0 per serving were greater in AF-fed cows. Contents of de novo FA and OCFA per serving of whole milk were greater in summer AF-fed cows than CON-fed cows, while total contents and BCFA did not differ, suggesting post-ruminal FA modifications in adipose tissue and the mammary gland. The third objective was to characterize and relate the rumen microbiota from CON- and AF-fed cows to animal performance. Rumen protozoal taxa were not altered, while less abundant bacterial taxa (< 5%) were different in both periods. The protozoal genus Diplodinium was positively correlated with feed efficiency and milk fat yield. In spring, AF-fed cows had greater abundances of the methanogen species Methanobrevibacter millerae, whereas CON-fed cows had greater abundances of the methanogen species Methanobrevibacter ruminantium, potentially as a result of differences in substrate availability. In conclusion, the work presented identifies several factors that influence rumen microbiota, rumen microbial FA, and milk FA, while providing new information to dairy farmers, researchers, and consumers.

Abstract:
The aim of this PhD thesis were to explore the relationships between several physical performance variables and bone parameters in a group of middle-aged men, to compare composite indices of femoral neck strength in inactive middle-aged men and ages-matched former football players and to explore the effects of a 1-year recreational football protocol on bone mineral density and physical performance parameters in a group of healthy inactive 50-year-old men. Three main studies have been conducted. The first study has shown that VO₂ max (L/min), lean mass and maximum power of the lower limbs are the strongest determinants of bone variables in middle-aged men. The second study has shown that former footbal practice is associated with higher composite indices of femoral neck strength in middle-aged men. The third study has demonstrated that WB BMC, FN BMD, CSMI, CSI, BSI and ISI increased in both experimental groups (RF30 and RF60) but not in the control group. The percentages of variations in bone health parameters and in physical performance variables were not significantly different in both experimental groups. Recreational football is an effective method to improve bone health in middle-aged men

Abstract:
Comparative study between the international trade law of genetically modified organisms (GMO) and the European law.The international trade regulation concerning genetically modified organisms (GMO), more specifically the Cartagena protocol, is in general, well-articulated with the European GMO law. This regulation is however in conflict with the WTO law. Between these regulatory systems, divergences are observed involving the precautionary principle and the principle of free trade, as well as with the implementation of mechanisms provided by the Cartagena Protocol. Despite the divergences there are important convergences within the common objectives of health and environmental protection, sustainable development and free trade protection. These convergences let us reflect upon the possibility of creating bridges to allow the articulation between these regulatory systems. This articulation becomes very important in a time where the law is strongly fragmented, and consistency becomes imperative. The conflict clauses established in the preamble of the Cartagena protocol and the mutual supportiveness principle are the mechanisms which allow the possibility of consistency between these regulatory systems, however, an articulation will never be possible before the WTO is open to consider other regulations. For a successful opening of the WTO, its Members States should make a political effort to evolve the WTO; furthermore, the WTO judge should consider an evolutionary interpretation of the WTO law

AbstractDespite the aging of the population, little attention is paid to the development of specific care protocols appropriate to the skin and even less to the scars in the elderly. The purpose of this chapter is to highlight common clinical problems with scar and scarring in older adults and provide appropriate advices on protocols for managing them. The literature review was carried out to look for the evidence-based elements, but, if the subject of scars is sometimes found, the elements relating specifically to scars in old age are nonexistent. Unsurprisingly, practices vary widely and are carried out according to habit rather than science. Based on our clinical experience of dermatologist and geriatrician and some literature data, some pathways for future research on scars in elderly are proposed.

Abstract:
AbstractFusarium wilt, caused by the soil-borne fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc), is considered one of the most devastating diseases of banana in the world. Effective management of Fusarium wilt is only achieved by planting banana varieties resistant to Foc. Resistant bananas, however, require many years of breeding and field-testing under multiple geographical conditions. Field evaluation is reliable but time consuming and expensive. Small plant screening methods are, therefore, needed to speed up the evaluation of banana varieties for Foc resistance. To this end, a small plant screening method for resistance to banana Fusarium wilt is presented. The method proposes the planting of 2- to 3-month-old banana plants in soil amended with 10 g Foc-colonised millet seeds. Rhizome discoloration is then evaluated to rank the disease resistance response. The optimized millet seed technique could be useful in mass screening of newly developed genotypes for resistance to Foc.

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Next-generation vehicle electrical architectures will be based on highly sophisticated domain controllers called HPCs (high-performance computers). These HPCs are more alike gaming PCs than as the traditional ECUs (electronic control units). Today’s diagnostic communication protocol, e.g., UDS (Unified Diagnostic Services, ISO 14229-1) was developed for ECUs and is not fit to be used for HPCs. There is a new protocol being developed within ASAM, SOVD (service-oriented vehicle diagnostics), which is based on a RESTful API (REpresentational State Transfer Application Programming Interface) sent over http (hypertext transfer protocol). But OBD (OnBoard Diagnostic) under the emissions regulation is not yet updated for this shift of protocols and therefore vehicle manufacturers must support older OBD protocols (e.g., SAE J1979-2) during the transition phase.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">Another problem is that some of the software packages may fall under the DEC-ECU (diagnostic or emission critical electronic control unit) definition and need to communicate with an OBD scan tool.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">This document will give an insight into SOVD and provide examples of how to support different regulatory diagnostic communication use cases for vehicles equipped with HPCs.</div></div>

Abstract:
Of 57 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) treated with rt-PA, we observed 2 major bleeding complications, both in patients who had been treated with anti-inflammatory drugs prior to admission. The thrombolytic protocol included: lOmg rt-PA in bolus and continuous infusion of 110 mg over 6 hr 5,000 iu heparin in bolus and continuous infusion of 25,000 iu/ 24hr, and aspirin 250 mg/24hr. The first patient, a 64 year old woman had been taking indomethacin 25 mg × 3 daily, during 3 weeks prior to the AMI. Rt-PA protocol was initiated with relief of chest pain and disappearance of ST elevation, but at 2 hr rt, sciatic pain developed. Treatment was continued accor ding to protocol in spite of the pain, but on the 3rd day hemoglobin decreased to 7.8%. Abdominal CT scan disclosed retroperitoneal hemorrhage. All anticoagulant medications were stopped, and 4 units of blood were transfused. The retro-peritoneal mass dissolved gradually. The second patient, a 68 year old male was treated by diclofenac 100 mg for 5 days prior to admission for AMI, and consequently aspirin was removed from the rt-PA protocol. However, 2 hr after completion of the 6 hr rt-PA infusion, gross hematuria and a “coffee ground” vomiting developed. Heparin infusion was discontinued and antacid treatment initiated, resulting in cessation of bleeding within a few hrs. In both patients the anticipated prolongation of APTT (heparin) and about 30% decrease in fibrinogen level were observed as the sole abnormality, and thus we related the bleeding episodes to the anti-aggregating effect of indomethacin and diclofenac respectively. We suggest that the use of anti-inflammatory drugs prior to administration of rt-PA protocol can be hazardous, and that special prudence (possibly protocol modification) is warranted.

Abstract:
Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of different resistance training (RT) volumes on muscle strength and functional capacity in breast cancer survivors (BCS) undergoing hormone therapy (tamoxifen® oranastrozol). Methods: A total of 13 untrained women breast cancer survivors were randomized to one of the following TR groups: high resistance training volume (HRTV: 6 women; 57.0±8.3 years old; height: 1.59±0.0 m; body mass 63.7±7.61 kg) or low resistance training volume (LRTV: 7 women; 55.1±7.4 years old; height: 1.58 ±0.0 m; body mass: 59.8±15.1 kg). Participants performed a full-body RT routine (e.g. leg press, bench press, lat pulldown, stiff, and sit-up) once a week for 8 weeks. All exercise sets were performed until momentary muscle failure within a range of predefined repetitions in both groups HRTV (12–15 repetitions) and LRTV (6–8 repetitions), in a total of three sets for each exercise. Upper and lower limb strength was evaluated by the 10-repetition maximum test using the bench press and leg press, respectively. Functional capacity was assessed by the Timed Up and GO test. Results: Both groups showed changes in performance variables (bench press — F=36.35, p<0.001), and in functional capacity (F=13.84, p=0.003), regardless of protocol used (HRTV and LRTV), with no differences between groups. Conclusion: Both protocols used in the present study (HRTV and LRTV) when prescribed in a supervised manner and in minimum weekly doses can contribute to the increase in strength of upper and lower limbs in a similar way and, consequently, can provide improvements in the functional capacity of BCS under hormone therapy treatment.

Abstract:
The HEC-6T 1D numerical sedimentation model was used to evaluate the long-term and system-wide sedimentation effects of modifying the operation schedule at the Old River Control Complex (ORCC). The changes evaluated were the increase and decrease of the percentages of flow diverted from the Mississippi River at the ORCC and the modification of the distributions through the four ORCC structures. Also evaluated were dredging scenarios that removed sediment from the bed of the Mississippi River at the ORCC. Sedimentation effects for several operation and dredging scenarios were compared to a Base Condition that represented the existing operation protocols. The predictive simulations extended for 50 years. The model was used to calculate and compare sand transport past various gages along the Mississippi River and in the Outflow Channel. Dredging volumes at the deep-draft crossings and in Southwest Pass and above Head of Passes were compared. Differences in water-surface profiles in the vicinity of ORCC were determined.

Four dredging scenarios were developed and analyzed. Additionally, two structure options were developed and analyzed. The scenario analyses presented in this report are intended to identify large trends and to make gross assessments of the potential impacts of various proposed operational changes to the ORCC.

Abstract:
The HEC-6T one-dimensional numerical sedimentation model was used to evaluate the long-term and system-wide sedimentation effects of modifying the operation schedule at the Old River Control Complex (ORCC). The changes evaluated were increasing and decreasing the percentage of flow that is diverted to the Atchafalaya River from the Mississippi River at the ORCC and modifying the distributions through the four ORCC structures. Sedimentation effects for several operation scenarios were compared to a Base Condition that represented the existing operation protocols. Additionally, a dredging scenario was developed and analyzed. This scenario featured dredging material from the Mississippi River and depositing it into the Outflow Channel, downstream of the ORCC. The predictive simulations extended for 50 years. The model was used to calculate and compare sand transport past various gages along the Atchafalaya River. Also, the model compared differences in water surface elevations and bed elevations using a specific gage analysis at several gages along the Atchafalaya River. Last, the effects of the various scenarios on annual dredging requirements in Berwick Bay were also determined.

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: The objective of this scoping review is to map the instruments validate for the Portuguese older population (65+ years old) that assess loneliness; and to identify their psychometric properties and contexts where they have been in use. The questions for this scoping review are: What are the validated instruments for Portugal that assess loneliness in the older individuals? What are the psychometric properties of those instruments? In which contexts were the loneliness assessment instruments used? Eligibility criteria: Participants – This scoping review will consider all studies that included older adults with 65 years and over. Concept – This review will be included studies that assess loneliness or cover loneliness by validated instruments that address different dimensions, including, but not limited to, emotional or social. Context – This scoping review will consider studies that used validated instruments the loneliness in Portuguese older adults including, but not limited to the context of community, intermediate care, long-term care or acute care. Types of sources - This scoping review will consider quantitative and mixed-method studies. In the quantitative designs include experimental, quasi-experimental, observational and analytical observational studies including prospective and retrospective cohort studies, case-control studies, and analytical cross-sectional studies will be considered for inclusion. This review will also consider descriptive observational study designs including case series, individual case reports, and descriptive cross-sectional studies for inclusion.
