Abstract:
In this article, Z.N.Vorozheykina, first of all, paid attention to the socio-ethical events that were the focus of the poet's attention, and in this context, analyzed the meaning and ideological essence of the poet's rubai, and in the article "Umar Khayyom and Khayyom's rubai" first Khayyom indicates the sources that informed him as a poet. In particular, he mentions the testimonies of "Khayyam's younger contemporary, historian Abulhasan Bayhaqi", Arabic-speaking historian Kifti, Arabic-speaking jurist Najmuddin Razi about "Khayyam's Arabic poems and his Persian rubai". This scientist singles out Khayyam's poetry in the rubai genre and considers "the main content of his poems to be philosophical and joyous lyrics." In this context, analyzing Khayyam's Rubaiyat based on a mental approach, he comes to the conclusion that it is a "great idea". Taking into account the personality of the poet Khayyam, that is, the confirmation of the right of every person living on earth to live happily, allows us to consider Khayyam the greatest humanist of the past," he says (45, 13). From this point of view, the researcher analyzes samples from Khayyam's Rubaiyat. and shows its essence and main approaches of thought. Segregation of Khayyam's work into the world of topics, identification of ideological directions, recognition and evaluation of Khayyam's work, the merits of this orientalist are very great. Omar Khayyam's biography occupies a special place in Russian oriental studies. In the scientific works devoted to the study of this topic, issues such as his birthplace, social status, date and place of birth, personal and family life, and his relationship with his contemporaries were evaluated from different angles. Abstract:
In Latvia, unlike in other countries, the poetry of the outstanding Persian encyclopedist and poet Omar Khayyam Nīshapūrī (1048–1131) was discovered relatively late, when the poet Andrejs Kurcijs translated his quatrains. It must be admitted that even today, for the Latvian reader Omar Khayyam happens to be almost the only one poet of the Islamic world they would recognise. Omar Khayyam’s rubais have not lost their popularity until this day, as evidenced by a large number of re-published rubai translations by Kurcijs. His poetry translations are quite similar to what Edward FitzGerald once called rendering. When translating poetry, its characteristic foot, the number of syllables, and rhythm often are lost. The author of the particular article aimed to find out which of the manuscripts Kurcijs used for the translation, but unfortunately, the search was unsuccessful. The source text would have made it possible to compare Kurcijs’s performance with the original text.

A álgebra das equações tem seus primórdios na ciência islâmica medieval. Este trabalho é um recorte de uma pesquisa doutoral mais ampla em desenvolvimento que envolve a análise do tratado algébrico de Omar Khayyam (1048-1131), cujo título é Al-Risala fi-l-barahin ‘ala masa’il al-jabr wa-l-muqabala (Tratado sobre demonstrações dos problemas da álgebra e almuqabala). Ao se tratar de álgebra das equações, torna-se imprescindível citar o sábio al-Khwarizmi (780-850), que escreveu um tratado algébrico, conhecido até os dias de hoje como a Álgebra de al-Khwarizmi (780-850). O presente trabalho é sobre o desenvolvimento da álgebra islâmica de al-Khwarizmi a Omar Khayyam. O estudo tem como objetivo descrever o que foi elaborado e desenvolvido em álgebra islâmica de al- Khwarizmi a Omar Khayyam. Possibilitando um melhor entendimento do significado da álgebra de Khayyam, pois em seu tratado ele menciona alguns sábios que estudaram álgebra antes dele. A pesquisa foi realizada por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica, a princípio na plataforma de periódicos da Capes e para complementar utilizamos a busca pelas biografias dos sábios para descrever a trajetória, na página eletrônica Mac Tutor. Apresentamos este percurso de desenvolvimento da álgebra, como resultado obtido, considerando que novos estudos podem ampliá-lo. Os estudiosos que encontramos foram: Al-Khwarizmi resolvendo equações lineares e quadráticas, apresentando a álgebra como uma prática para resolver problemas e nomeando a álgebra; al-Mahani que chegou em uma equação envolvendo cubos, quadrados e números; Abu Kamil que aplicou a álgebra no pentágono e no decágono regular; al-Karaji que aritmetizou a álgebra, primórdios para o modelo da álgebra moderna; e chegando a Omar Khayyam que desenvolveu por meio de intersecções de seções cônicas um método geométrico de resolver equações cúbicas. Among the literati and men of culture of Iran, it is not exaggerated to call Khayyam one of the vaguest figures. One might recognize him certainly and resolutely through his philosophical and scientific works; however, it was his Rubaiyat attributed to him which created many arguments. This paper studies Hakim Omar Khayyam’s Rubaiyat in English and Persian language feature and non-biographical movies; hence, biographical movies depicting factual or imaginary life of Khayyam or any serials, TV productions, documentaries, non- English, non- Persian movies are not included. The aim is to expound any relationships between the film and Rubaiyat; therefore, according to the type of the applied quatrain, movie genre, plot, some categories are propounded to classify the movies in which Khayyam’s quatrains are quoted such as Transiency-Death, Transiency-Carpe Diem, Heaven and Hell, and Determinism. Indeed, these categories can be applied to the theme of the movies or a single scene in which the stanza is quoted.

Abstract:
The main purpose of this article is to substantiate the proposition that mathematicians and architect-artisans had collaborated through special meetings, called conversazioni in the text, for the application of geometry to architecture in the Islamic world. A meeting reportedly attended by Omar Khayyam furnishes convincing evidence for this proposition. The study expands on the untitled treatise written by Omar Khayyam as a response to a question raised at this meeting. The treatise is about a problem that concerns an ornamental pattern, the story of which can be traced in two other works on geometry: Abu 'l-Wafa' al-Buzajani's book, What the Artisan Requires of Geometric Constructions, and an anonymous Persian treatise on ornamental geometry, On Interlocking Similar or Corresponding Figures. While these three works are analyzed in the article, the wider implications of the collaboration between mathematicians and artisans concerning the field of architecture are discussed.

The fact that quatrains known as Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam were not really composed by the twelfth century astronomer of that name, but composed by various hands and made into collections later, is widely accepted. This paper examines under what political and social atmosphere in later times, the collections began to be compiled, and what elements of scepticism, irreligion, mysticism and even rationalism entered into them. It is argued that the collections retained their popularity and freely circulated wherever Persian was cultivated down to modern times.

Abstract:
O presente estudo faz parte de uma pesquisa doutoral em desenvolvimento que trata da álgebra das equações por meio de resolução geométrica desenvolvida por Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) em seu Tratado Algébrico e sua aplicação ao ensino. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo é verificar as publicações já existentes nas bases de dados indexadas no Portal de Periódicos da Capes por meio de uma revisão de literatura sobre o tema. O estudo foi realizado por meio de uma pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases da Capes, mediante os termos descritores elencados pela junção das palavras-chave iniciais. Examinamos 21 bases (CNPq) de pesquisa mediante a sua relação com o Ensino de Ciências e Matemática, das quais apenas 11 contribuíram para com o resultado almejado. Efetuados os refinamentos, observamos que são escassas as contribuições para o ensino das equações cúbicas e que não possuem a mesma abordagem que a nossa pesquisa doutoral, assim como o maior número de textos encontrados é descritivo/expositivo sobre a álgebra de Omar Khayyam. Assim, comprovamos o ineditismo da pesquisa doutoral e encontramos novos textos que podem enriquecer nossa pesquisa.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to identify the parameters of cyclization, as well as techniques for updating the ancient form and technique of polyphonic writing by modern musical means in a cappella choral music. The subject of the study is the choral creativity of Sergei Ekimov. The object of the research is the study of the architectonics of the cyclic form and the consideration of polyphonic techniques in thirteen five-voice madrigals "From the Rubayat of Omar Khayyam" by S. Ekimov. The musical language of the St. Petersburg master is saturated with semantic concentration, differs in the expression of the utterance. The appeal to ancient polyphonic genres, forms and techniques of writing in S. Ekimov's choral cycles is characterized by an individual approach to solving creative ideas. S. Ekimov embodies the images of Omar Khayyam's poetry in music and forms his own author's concept of the entire cycle. Through the synthesis of research methods, including musicology, poetics and choral studies, the parameters of musical composition are revealed: the architectonics of the cycle, genre specificity and musical. The author examines in detail such an aspect of the topic as the dialectical interaction of constructive and destructive formants of the architectonics of the musical form of polyphonic compositions for chorus. The main conclusion of the research is the paradigm of artistic connections of the Western European polyphonic tradition with the achievements of Russian musical culture through the prism of modern techniques of compositional writing (sonorica, aleatorica). The attention is focused on the need to study the problems associated with the architectonics of modern choral polyphonic a cappella cycles, due to the general artistic and historical potential and the significance of Russian choral music. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time the polyphonic cycle of choral creativity a cappella by a modern Russian composer is analyzed from the standpoint of musicology and choral studies. A special contribution of the author to the disclosure of the topic is the study of Sergei Ekimov's essay "From the Rubayat of Omar Khayyam", which has not previously been the object of special research, and its introduction into modern scientific usage.

Research studies from around the globe on Omar Khayyam’s Persian quatrains and their translation into English by the poet, writer, and translator Edward Fitzgerald, are in abundance. Researchers are, in general, in praise of the translation and give credit to Fitzgerald for making Khayyam a world-renowned poet. However, the translation has rarely been approached from a socio-political perspective or a look into Fitzgerald’s ideological manipulation of the original. The present research study investigates two issues with Fitzgerald’s translation- ideological manipulation and selective translation. The study also looks into Khayyam’s life and his works. It probes into the effects this translation left on the literary scene. The study involves a comparative literary translation analysis to compare and contrast the elements found in Fitzgerald’s translation and two Arabic translations. Employing Lefevere’s (1992) theory of ‘translation as rewriting,’ this paper assesses the extent to which a translator’s ideology can lead to a misrepresented product of translation (Lefevere, 1992). The study adopts textual analysis as a research method to capture the epicurean elements recurrently emphasized by Fitzgerald in his translation.

Abstract This article explores the source and the meaning of the eleven quatrains quoted by modern Japanese writer Dazai Osamu (1909-1948) in his last complete novel, Ningen shikkaku (No Longer Human, 1948). Although dubbed as “rubaiyat”, which would indicate that they are translations of classical Persian poet and mathematician Omar Khayyam (1048-1131), the poems do not seem to match any of the known English translations from his work. This article explores the origin of the Japanese quatrains in Dazai’s novel, as well as their possible relevance for his literary work overall.

The great speakers like Rudaki, Daqiqiy, Firdavsi, Asadi Tusi, Nosir Khisraf, Omar Khayyam, Nizami Ganjavi from the Tajik, Iranian and Azerbaijani nations were educated. Each of these writers has their own way of life and creativity, artistic style and literary services. Though Sir William Jones's captivating English version of a ghazal of Hafez, first published in 1771, inspired many translators in the final years of the 18th and early years of the 19th century, none succeeded in producing a living, breathing body of Hafez's work in English. Goethe, of course, lavished his admiration on Hafez in the West–Östliche Divan, and Ralph Waldo Emerson echoed and amplified this praise in America with a number of English translations of von Hammer-Purgstall's German renditions of Hafez. All this attention from trend- and style-setting literary figures did Hafez the favor of creating an interest in and a ready market for translations of his poems. At the same time, however, it burdened him with a literary reputation the expectations of which were difficult for translators to meet. Once FitzGerald's Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, perhaps the most successful English verse translation in history, demonstrated the possibility of creating a native English idiom for a poet such as Khayyam, readers' expectations for Hafez only intensified. Though a score of translators have tried their hand at Hafez, none has managed anything more than a satisfactory result.

Abstract:
This article follows two branches of Tsur's cognitive poetic theory to their logical conclusion and applies them to Fitzgerald's Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam where they are fully validated. The first branch emphasizes the expressiveness of speech sounds (phonemes) and the second branch the importance of the Gestalt principle of closure to poetry. Rubaiyat were phonetically transcribed and their phonemes were then categorized in terms of emotional character. The closural device of a return to baseline described the preferential use of active phonemes in the rubaiyat while the closural allusion of definitive termination described the preferential use of pleasant phonemes. Clynes' concept of the essentic form for grief was used to explain the rise and fall of preferential activation in the first three lines of each quatrain. The emotional picture drawn of the rubaiyat on the basis of these procedures was one of fatalism or emotional resignation. General patterns and individual examples are discussed.

Finding the roots of cubic equations has been the focus of research by many mathematicians. Omar Khayyam, the 11th century Iranian mathematician, astronomer, philosopher and poet, discovered a geometrical method for solving cubic equations by intersecting conic sections [1]. In more recent times, various methods have been presented to find the roots of cubic equations. Some methods require complex number calculations, a number of techniques use graphical methods to find the roots [e.g. 2, 3] and some other techniques use trigonometric functions [e.g. 4]. The method presented in this paper does not use graphical techniques as in [2] and [3], does not involve complex number calculations, and does not require using trigonometric functions. By using this fairly simple method, the roots of cubic equations can be found in a short time without using complicated formulas.

This article investigates the use of the history of mathematics as a pedagogical tool for the teaching and learning of mathematics, using the history of the cubic equation as a specific example.Cubic equations arise intrinsically in many applications in natural sciences and mathematics. For example, in physics, the solutions of the equations of state in thermodynamics, or the computation of the speed of seismic Rayleigh waves require the solutions of cubic equations. In mathematics, they are instrumental in solving the quartic equations, for in the process, these are reduced to cubic equations. The impossibility of trisecting an angle or doubling a cube using only a straightedge and compass is equivalent to solving some cubic equations. As the name implies, the cubic spline approximation, an important tool in numerical analysis, also entails working with cubic functions. Although cubic equations were explored by the ancient Babylonian, Greek, Chinese, Indian, and Egyptian scholars, it took the collective work of many well-known mathematicians such as Diophantus, Archimedes, Fibonacci, del Ferro, Khayyam, Tartaglia, Cardano, Viète, Descartes, and Lagrange to finally obtain a full solution. Our goal in this paper is to investigate one of the most formidable steps in this extensive and prolific history, namely the complete classification of the cubic equations by Omar Khayyam in eleventh century, who was the first scholar to classify cubic equation and hence facilitate a methodical and logical approach to obtaining a general solution.

The universality of literature has had great effects on literary unity. In this area, the effects of Arabic and Persian reflect the development of in-kind modeling of literary and literary overlap and become a wide field of comparative studies. Khayyam is considered to be one of the greatest men of the fifth century AH and has left a great literary imprint in the world of art and literature. One of the most famous of its variants is the reference to its quartets, which seem to have conflicting views of the universe and the Creator at first sight. This duplication, which we find in the quartets of the tents has produced many studies over the ages, including those Zahawi contemporary Iraqi poet, who was affected by the tents clearly. We find this effect when the quartets of the tents express the prose and the system, and also when it regulates its quadrilateral. We find that his idea inspired much of the quartets of tents. Here is the importance of studying the comparison between them through the quartets. And their cultural influences between them and this research includes common aspects between the quartets of these poets. The most important results we have reached in this study can be summarized as follows: Al-Zahawi was influenced by his quartets of the ideas and quartets of tents. The tents look at life and the universe with a pessimistic look and call for forgetting the melancholy of the world and its depression, while also drinking alcohol and Zahawi. The Arabization of the quartets of the tents by the Zahawi and the similarity of the contents of their quartets due to the cultural context common to them as a result of the knowledge of the Arab world on the ideas of tents. Such study confirms the connection and friction of both Arabic and Persian cultures.

Translation is a mental and intellectual activity that has always attracted the attention of linguists, literary critics, psychologists, ethnographers, etc. It is well-known that the lexicosemantic analysis of translation is important precisely for linguists, where they carry out in-depth scientific research. The purpose of this research is to analyze the lexico-semantic asymmetry in the translation of a literary text. The material of the study was the English translation of the Tajik novel “Memoirs” by S. Aini, the English translation of “Navruz-name” by Omar Khayyam and the poems of Kamol Khujandi. When comparing and contrasting samples of the translation of Tajik and English texts, it turned out that not always the realities were successfully identified. In most cases, under the influence of intercultural factors, the translation of the original text with the translated text is not equivalent. In the process of translating non-equivalent vocabulary, the translator uses the method of descriptive translation or the method of translation transformation.

Abstract This essay investigates the theme of emotionlessness in Salman Rushdie’s novel Shame; the research is carried out within the theoretical framework of postmodernism. In the novel, otherwise filled with strong emotions such as love, hate and shame, one character, Farah Zoroaster, can be singled out as a person characterised by a lack of emotion. The question raised in this research is about the place of emotionlessness in the narrative of the novel and the functions it performs. It is discovered that although Farah has a unique position in the novel, her story is intertwined with those of other migrant/ peripheral characters such as Bilquis Hyder, Eduardo Rodrigues and Omar Khayyam Shakil as opposed to the protagonists of the novel Iskander Harappa and Raza Hyder, who are local/central characters of the novel. However, alongside the narrative lines of her father and Eduardo Rodrigues, Farah Zoroaster’s story explores the topic of migration from a perspective of personal freedom and spirituality, which is different from other migrant narratives in the novel. The postmodern nature of the narrative plays with the reader by offering contrasting connotations of the freedom and spirituality attributed to the emotionlessness of Farah, such as narcissism and the absence of personal qualities.

Тhe study presents an analysis of a unique civilizational phenomenon: the Iranian-Tajik literature of the heyday period (X-XIII centuries), its historical and social environment. The article is rather staged in nature and anticipates the author’s intention to conduct a broader historical and comparative comparison of the epic and artistic works of the peoples of the Indo–Iranian world, of which the Ossetian ethnos is also a part. This research is the initial stage of the planned research, its introductory part. The possibilities of one journal publication allow us to turn to the analysis of Persian literature on the example of only the most prominent representatives of the period of its heyday: Firdousi, Omar Khayyam, Saadi, Rumi. The study provides a brief substantive analysis of the creativity of these authors by the main ideological categories: the semantic context of the eternal confrontation between good and evil; views on the concept of power and the image of the “good king”; understanding of physical labor, humanistic meanings of human existence; religion, love. The specificity of the article is the scientific interest in the socio-cultural orientation of the artistic creativity of medieval poets who wrote in Farsi, its aesthetics, moral motivation, value characteristics and the general historical and anthropological content of the sung ideals. Having settled at the crossroads of trade routes and cultural influences, the Iranians were distinguished by genuine loyalty and at the same time unique civilizational stability. The indescribable charm of Persian literature reflected the influence of various ideological, philosophical, religious, moral and ethical systems and ancient beliefs. William Morris is extremely famous for his career as a designer and one of the founders of the whole movement of the Arts and Crafts in Late Victorian England. But the other side of his career, as a man of letters, is far less abundantly documented. While his Socialist utopia News from Nowhere (1890) is still read and commented upon today, far less attention has been given to his early poems, as well as his late romances written in a mock- mediaeval style which was to inspire the whole twentieth-century movement of “Fantasy” literature.The article focuses on Morris’s partly neglected love of letters, both in the sense of literature as a whole, and of individual letters. Morris loved the letter as a writer, but also as a visual artist: from an early stage of his career, he practiced calligraphy as leisure, before turning to book-printing as a professional activity in the last years of his life. This love of letters is studied on the basis of a particular case-study: his production of a calligraphic and illustrated version of the mediaeval Persian poems of Omar Khayyam, the Rubbayiat, in their English translation by Edward FitzGerald (1859). Aside from his passion for letters, in both their graphic and poetic dimension, Morris’s work on the Rubbayiat shows how deeply intercultural and intermedial his inspiration was. He recreated for the English readers of the Persian poet a visual world which borrowed from his other creations in the field of textiles, carpets, wall-papers, etc., and brought together East and West in a completely hybrid visual creation. It is those eminently cross-cultural and trans-disciplinary sources of inspiration that the article unravels.
