Abstract:
Background: The population of the older persons is increasing steadily worldwide. This is secondary to lower fertility rate and increasing longer life. With the increased older person’s population, societies get challenges taking care of the health function of older people. The growth in older person’s population comes with the challenges of taking care of the older persons. As old age sets in, quality of life goes down. Methods: Population based cross-sectional descriptive study was used. Multi-stage sampling method was applied to select participating units starting with Sub County, wards, and then villages. Households with an older person were selected and formed a sampling frame. Systematic random sampling using the sampling frame formed was used at household level to select 333 participating respondents. In case a house hold had more than one older person the eldest or the head of the household/bread winner was selected. Statistical package for social sciences version 25 was used for data analysis. Descriptive analysis was used for social-demographic characteristics. Testing the association between independent variables and dependent variables was done using Chi-square and Odds ratio. Results: The results indicated that age of the older persons respondents (p=0.0001), education (p=0.046), walking with support (p=0.001) and occupation (p=0.020) were significantly associated with care giving in personal hygiene practices. Most of respondents 100 (30.0%) carried out daily activity by themselves, equally by the relative especially on bathing 182 (54.7%) and attending medical appointments 107 (32.1%).Conclusions: The role of care giving in enhancing well-being of the older persons was hygiene, nutrition, environment and older persons abuse whereby feeding and older persons abuse were the most significant.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTBackground: Screaming is common among older persons living with dementia in nursing homes. Research on this population has not provided a useful basis for understanding such behavior that could help determine appropriate interventions. The purpose of this study was to explore the meanings of screams in older people living with dementia and their influencing factors. Methods: Critical ethnography was selected as the research design. Seven triads, each composed of an older person living with dementia who screamed, a primary family caregiver, and one or two formal caregivers, were recruited in a nursing home. Various data collection methods and Spradley's (1979) ethnographic analysis were used. Results: Screaming is related to vulnerability, suffering, and loss of meaning experienced by older persons. This singular behavior also expresses various final outcomes that can be differentiated through modulation criteria. The meanings of screams are influenced by stability and flexibility in the nursing care organization and reciprocal effects between older persons who scream and others in the nursing home environment. Each person's screams constitute a unique language that can be learned. Other influencing factors include respect for the older person's wishes, needs, and personality, shifts in power relations within the triad, and feelings of powerlessness and guilt in family and formal caregivers. Conclusions: This study advances knowledge of the meanings of screams in older persons living with dementia. It has implications for and offers insight on culturally congruent care for older persons living with dementia and the people around them.

Abstract:
Abstract This research explores the life circumstances of older persons (aged 60 years and above), focusing on the sociodemographic and socioeconomic conditions of those who live alone. We situate the living arrangements of older persons within the global context of changing household structures in 76 countries from all regions of the world. Older persons who live alone are among those most likely to need governmental and other forms of social support. The analysis presented here is crucial for supporting policy responses to the needs of older persons, including the special attention they require during the current COVID-19 crisis. It also supports the operationalization of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA)(United Nations, 2002), the realization of United Nations Principles for Older Persons (United Nations, 1991), and the broader framework of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development(ICPA-POA).
