Abstract:
This paper critically evaluates indoor overheating of multilevel office buildings in Colombo—a tropical warm humid city. The work questions the building morphological characteristics on thermal performance and indoor climate, thus the levels of Building Energy Indices (BEI) of air conditioned buildings. Pattern of heat stress on buildings due to building characteristics and its relationship to the BEI were identified. A study of 87 multilevel office buildings contributed to identify two critical cases in shallow plan form with similar morphological characteristics such as wall-to-window ratio, aspect ratio, orientation, occupant and equipment density, and façade architecture. A comprehensive thermal performance investigation on these two critical cases quantified the heat stress patterns on their facades and thus indoor thermal environments. Indoor air temperature during office hours in 3 m × 3 m multizones across the depths and lengths in these two buildings showed deviations up to 10.5 °C above the set point temperature level (24 °C). Findings highlight the severity of heat stress on air conditioned indoor environments and the need to address this issue for energy sustainability of urban office buildings in the tropics.

Abstract:
Recent ethnographies among professional architects have given us a novel version of the argument against architectural autonomy: architects work in a condition of entanglement not only with clients and markets, but also with the very objects through which architectural conception takes place. There is a tension between this view and one that surfaces within management scholarship on design competitions. In these studies, the design competition is a moment of architectural work in which architectural autonomy is uniquely pronounced, where the artistic statements of architects achieve a special efficacy. The author investigates the possibility that the design competition enacts a different sort of architectural entanglement than what we see in recent anthropologies. He considers two situations of architects working on design competitions, one in an architectural school in the UK and one at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture. He concludes that, in design competitions, discourse itself becomes subject to adjustment and iteration.

Medan City, Indonesia's third largest city with a strategic position as the main gateway of Indonesia in the western region, must prepare itself to develop in facing variousopportunities and challenges as a metropolitan city. Polonia's ex-terminal complex post-relocation Polonia Airport is a region with the high potential to become a strategic trading center in Medan. Taking into consideration the availability of the existing area, the concept of vertical-shelter construction is chosen that can be used as a trading place, office or second residence is known as an apartment. The apartment can be defined as a building consisting of several residential units arranged in stages, and has the same space and facilities, to overcome the problem of density of occupancy rate and limited land in urban areas. Therefore, the concept of "Green Architecture" is considered appropriate to address the environmental issues. Where the concept of green architecture (Green Architecture) is an approach to the building that can minimize the various harmful effects on human health and the environment.

Artykuł to próba interdyscyplinarnego podejścia do analizy projektu dyplomowego „Exodus albo dobrowolni więźniowie architektury”, a przedstawioną interpretację należy traktować jako jedną z możliwych. Praca autorstwa Remmenta L. Koolhaasa, Madelon Vreisendorp, Elii Zenghelisa i Zoe Zenghelis została obroniona w 1972 roku, w Architectural Association School of Architecture w Londynie, a sam projekt stał się katalizatorem powstania biura R. Koolhaasa - Office for Metropolitan Architecture.

Steel is an excellent construction material with a high strength-to-weight ratio. As such, it is gaining popularity in metropolitan Asian cities such as Singapore. Many modern office towers are of steel-composite construction – which is lightweight and achieves faster construction cycles compared to concrete construction. Savings on foundation costs may also be significant, especially for tall buildings, due to the lighter weight of steel compared to concrete. However, the lightweight nature of steel will also mean a lower modal mass generally; therefore, vibrations from active sources (e.g. footfall) will to need be considered carefully during the design stage. This article discusses vibration performance and mitigation based on recent experience in Singapore.

Abstract:
Urban sprawl in Poland has increased due to commune autonomy in spatial planning processes. Local authorities often implement planning measures based on their unit’s interests, overlooking long-term problems such as a lack of schools, kindergartens, commercial infrastructure, and traffic congestion. To address these issues, local governments should consider spatial planning and development projects alongside the development of necessary infrastructure. Many spatial planning methods delimit metropolitan areas based on existing built-up areas and urban corridors located along transport routes. This study analyzed the urban development of the Warsaw Metropolitan Area. Based on a study by the Office of Architecture and Spatial Planning of the Capital City of Warsaw, four urbanization zones of the WMA were delimited, focusing on the accessibility of infrastructure and the urban structure of settlements. At the same time, the population density of each village and each town was calculated, and the area of vacant land was counted. The study found 44 instances of locality types, grouped into four classes, representing peri-urban areas.

Abstract:
Incremental housing, supported by governmental funding, denotes a solution for low-income households where they can gradually customise their dwelling. The Chilean government officials and architects proposed phases of construction which fell short of addressing the households’ capabilities and motivation to finalise their units. Hereof, this article looks at two incremental housing projects: Lo Espejo condominium (2007) and Las Higueras (2006) in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile, to inquire capacities of government officials and architects’ comprehensive assistance to families’ housebuilding. The hypothesis holds that the greater responsibility of government officials and architects engaged with incremental housing will enhance motivation of low-income families to customise their house by self-building practice. Arguing for the importance of the self-building the author proposed the guideline for customising houses that comprises four phases: introducing the incremental construction design idea, discussing with families the possibilities for completing houses, connecting households’ construction plans with their financial resources, and presenting the customisation design template. This guideline structure is founded on extensive nine months fieldwork in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, carried out in close collaboration with low-income households from two neighbourhoods, the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism of Chile, the Architectural Office Elemental, and “Gubbins Arquitectos.”

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to examine the implementation of a workspace strategy within Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council. It identifies the efficiencies that were achieved through the increase in office workspace numbers, as well as the associated advantages of locating more people within the Civic Centre. Equally, this study examines the users’ perspective. Design/methodology/approach A survey was carried out in 2013, with Property and Design Services as a sample Council Department, to identify employees’ level of satisfaction with the implementation of the strategy. A paper-based questionnaire was handed to all participants. The primary comparison was their experience before and after changes to the workplace. Findings The results show that government targets for office space utilisation have been exceeded, thus supporting more efficient property asset management. The research has also established that the employees are generally satisfied with their new workspace. Research limitations/implications The issues are whether the reduced space per person can be mitigated by the design, and whether efficiency gains can be introduced without adversely affecting the users’ perception of their workplace. Practical implications The findings can guide future trends within the Council, as well as informing the implementation of similar workspace strategies in other organisations. Originality/value The originality of the study lies in a workspace strategy where the responses of users were taken seriously. Despite some concerns about distractions and lack of privacy, the employees responded that their overall satisfaction, and perceived productivity were unaffected by the strategy and reduced space per person.

The Capitol building of the Province of Bulacan in the town of Malolos, erected in 1930. Bulacan Capitol Building is an Art Deco Style Architecture. The entrance of the building has Portico with Octagonal Concrete Columns with decorative concrete torch. It has three entrances of wooden frame door accentuated with wrought iron grills with design of rising Sun. Upon entering the lobby, you will be welcomed by Grand double return staircase. The façade of the building is of massive walls and columns with simplistic design painted with purely white color. The Bulacan Capitol Building was designed by Architect Juan Marcos Arellano. JUAN MARCOS ARELLANO (y de Guzman), one of the Philippines' founding fathers of architecture, was born on this day in Tondo, Manila. Among his most famous works are Manila's Metropolitan Theater (1935), Legislative Building (1926) (now the National Museum of the Philippines), the Manila Central Post Office Building (1926), and Jones Bridge. The researcher utilized Reconnaissance Survey Methodology, an extensive study of an entire area that might be used for analysis. Its purpose is to eliminate those buildings or site elements which are impractical or unfeasible and to identify the more promising buildings or site elements. The result showed that one of the famous landmarks in Bulacan is its Provincial Capitol Building. The building, erected in 1930, was destroyed during the Second World War. It was rebuilt in 1950 with the assistance of the American government. During the administration of President Corazon C. Aquino, the building was renovated and expanded. The building is a Cultural Heritage Property.

Abstract:
People in today's society spend the majority of their waking hours indoors. Individuals are increasingly separated from nature in the fast-paced metropolitan surroundings of the twenty-first century, leading to a variety of physical and mental health concerns. Even in the United States, there are about 27 million office employees who could get sick building syndrome. Interiorscaping addresses this gap by incorporating natural components into indoor settings, which promotes better air quality, stress reduction, and increased productivity. Interior landscaping is the practice of growing and arranging plants indoors. To enrich and enhance the look of the indoor environment, it entails choosing, installing, and maintaining plants. Indoor plants, green walls, and sustainable design ideas all contribute to healthier, more enjoyable living and working environments. The benefits of indoorscaping are: provides privacy, screens unpleasant view, define space, controls traffic, glare reduction, softening architecture. Different types of indoorscaping are being used like: vertical garden, softscaping, terrarium, dish tray garden, hanging garden, windowsill garden, waterscaping, aquascaping, etc. With growing concerns about climate change and the need for environmentally friendly practises, introducing greenery into indoor areas can help with carbon sequestration, energy conservation, and overall ecological balance. Today, Interiorscaping use both modern technology and the experience of nature, which leads to increased creativity and productivity and, in the end, the creation of spaces that has soothing effect on our mind and soul. Hence, not only would interior landscaping save power consumption but also foster the development of human energy in our homes, businesses, neighborhoods and cities.

Abstract:
Brussels Capital Region has to deal with urban conflicts arising from the different kinds of land uses. On the one hand the process of metropolisation has intensified the inner city's land use through residential, economic and urban development and on the other hand this same process has contributed to the expansion and sprawling of the city beyond its administrative borders. The city's main challenge is to ensure the cohabitation of different urban forms and densities in a multi-scale level related to metropolitan and local functions (Ananian P. 2010). Brussels, originally an industrial city, has become an administrative centre, generating a series of disaffected areas. Urban regeneration and sustainable development policies aim to improve the standard of living through urban, social and economic enhancements. Indeed, these policies deal with the construction, renovation and requalification of obsolete areas into new dwelling complexes. In this context, the present article shows the results of a broader research commissioned by the Brussels Capital Region on residential densification between 1989 and 2007(Declève B. Ananian P. et al 2009). Through the analysis of this inventory, we have identified three main techniques concerning the requalification of old places into residential uses: firstly the reurbanisation of brownfields generated by the delocalisation of large facilities; secondly the requalification and reconversion of isolated buildings (abandoned and obsolete industrial and office buildings) and last but not least, the recycling of terrains merged into the urban fabric of old neighbourhoods. Following two methodological approaches (morphological observation and analysis of social perception), this research has shown us that, in the last twenty years of housing production in Brussels, the main abandoned buildings and sites that were available were requalified, increasing density and improving urbanity through the diversity of the urban forms adopted for the public and private spaces.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to examine short-distance firm relocations, the most frequent form of relocation, to better understand how employees as individuals experience those relocations. Design/methodology/approach – This study was a multiple-case study with five organisations that had relocated within the same metropolitan area during the previous 18 months. To understand why and how the relocation was carried out, 15 semi-structured interviews were conducted with company representatives who were actively involved in making decisions and executing the relocation of their organisation. Subsequently, to study the employees’ experience and perception of the process, 17 employees who did not have an assigned role in the process were also interviewed. Findings – The findings show that even within the same organization, people experience relocation differently; therefore, the employees should not be treated as one object of change but as several individuals who experience change. Further, it was identified that relocation included both location and workplace change aspects. Research limitations/implications – The study is of qualitative nature and, therefore, the findings should not be generalized to individuals outside of the context of study. Instead, the value lies in the description and the themes developed in the specific context. The findings show that emphasis needs to be put on how the relocation process is managed, and that relocation change management efforts should include both location and workplace changes. Originality/value – This study provides new insight on how individual employees experience the relocation process and augments the previous body of knowledge on employee experiences and satisfaction with various elements in the work environment and/or with new ways of working, and the previous studies on relocation that focus on comparing employees’ experiences of the old office with the new one.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Beyond Ecology means beyond just the reciprocal relationship between living things and the surrounding environment. The ecological crisis began to be voiced in the 1960s, where most people began to rethink their relationship to nature when human actions began to threaten the balance of nature and alienate humans from life other than themselves. With the world experiencing this acceleration, there are concerns about the sustainability of an ecosystem. Much of the damage to ecosystems caused by human behavior such as hunting for animals, dumping waste, and forest fires that reached their peak in 2019 is caused by human indifference. According to Bintarto, this often happens in large urban areas with high density, causing humans to be indifferent to their environment. The presence of an interactive space based on an ecological design is the answer to the existing problems. As for Jakarta, which is the largest metropolitan city in Indonesia, it is the target in this design, precisely in the Kemanggisan area. Judging from the character of the area, it is dominated by formal education facilities, office areas, and is located around the shopping area. The Stack method from Benjamin Bratton and the biophilic design are the references in this design as an effort to foster a sense of empathy and care for the community towards the environment. The program is in the form of educational institutions and offices as a form of supporting the activities of residents, which are dominated by employees and students. Open areas and stages are a strategy to create an area that does not only focus on community forums and learning but as an area for recreation that does not forget about ecology itself. Keywords: Activity Spaces; Architectural Biophilic; Recreation; Social Crisis Abstrak Beyond Ecology berarti melampaui dari hanya sekedar hubungan timbal balik antar mahkluk hidup dengan lingkungan sekitarnya.

Abstract:
A model of an integrated metropolitan land market with respect to office location is provided. The model combines aspects of production theory and utility theory in outlining the locational choices of the office-using sector. The mixed basis of the model arises from the possibility of factor intensity reversals in the office sector which allow locational choices. Empirical tests of some of the propositions of the model yield the supporting result of a city-size effect in the linkages between downdown and suburban office-location markets.

Abstract:
The Metropolitan Architecture Project aims to create an artistic metropolitan landscape, which captivates visitors. It focuses on the relationship between the form’s image and the surrounding context, emphasising the structural image in architectural design. The project draws inspiration from the City of Muses Project, incorporating a symbolic mediator as a propeller, which represents the connection with the contemporary society’s cultural symbols and bridges the gap between the past, present and future. The methods employed in the Metropolitan Architecture Project involve integrating artistic elements into the metropolitan landscape. This includes incorporating the symbolic mediator and designing the structural image to interact harmoniously with the surrounding environment. The project has successfully introduced a new type of built form characterised by a relational figure and a vibrant and sensual image. By embracing this approach, the architectural design actively engages with the environment and enhances the overall architectural experience. The Metropolitan Architecture Project demonstrates the significance of incorporating an artistic dimension in creating a metropolitan landscape. The project achieves a captivating and interactive architectural design by considering the dynamic relationship between the form, context and structure. This understanding of architecture contributes to a deeper comprehension of the society which constructs it, resulting in a rich and engaging architectural experience.

Abstract:
The fourth office development boom in Dublin (1995-2000/2001) has had far-reaching consequences for the pattern of office development in the metropolitan area. The hallmark of this boom has been the rapid proliferation of offices at peripheral locations and, to a lesser extent, at secondary areas within the city centre. This paper investigates the relative influence of the urban planning context and private property development interests in shaping this new geography of office development and highlights the problematic consequences of this development pattern for the provision of public transport.

Abstract:
Purpose - This paper provides a detailed analysis of the connotation of the middle office architecture. It explains the middle office’s role, operation mechanism, and development status. Design/Methodology/Approach - This paper focuses on the theoretical description of the enterprise portrait suitable for implementing the middle office architecture, the core value of the middle office output, the typical architecture of the central office construction, and the strategic adjustment of the organizational structure, and the strategy of maximizing the effectiveness of the middle office strategy. The typical areas of the current implementation of middle office architecture strategy are also listed, and further outlook on the development trend of middle office architecture is given. Findings - As a necessary tool for data-enabled businesses, data middle office applications have entered a period of development. This paper provides ideas and references for enterprises to build and implement a middle office architecture and thus drive their digital transformation. Research Implications - Digital transformation is gradually becoming necessary for enterprises to achieve sustainable operations. We need to digitize product development, supply chain, manufacturing, sales, and service, but most importantly, we need to digitize the user interface. Therefore, building a connection platform between “virtual” and “real” is necessary, and the middle platform architecture is one of the best solutions.

Abstract:
Objectives This study analyzes the living and educational conditions that affect the education gap in the eastern and western regions of Daejeon Metropolitan City, and tries to find out how the education gap in Daejeon is changing through interviews with local elementary school teachers. Methods In order to study the changes in living and educational conditions in the eastern and western regions of Daejeon Metropolitan City, data from the Statistics Korea and the Educational Statistical Yearbook of the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education were used. Also, a focus group interview was conducted on elementary school teachers. The target was a teacher who worked at an elementary school in the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education and had experience working at both schools in the east and west. Through FGI, We suggest a way to bridge the educational gap. Results The living and educational conditions of Seo-gu (Seo-gu, Yuseong-gu) and Dongbu (Jung-gu, Dong-gu, Daedeok-gu) of Daejeon Metropolitan City were analyzed. In almost all regions, the east was inferior to the west, and the difference was deepening over time. In addition, elementary school teachers felt that the educational gap between the eastern and western regions of Daejeon Metropolitan City was widening. Conclusions Guarantee policies for vulnerable students should be more aggressively implemented. Support standards should be refined and the level and causes of educational disparities by administrative district and school should be in-depth investigated so that customized support can be provided according to the characteristics of each school. In particular, it is necessary to take a multi-pronged approach, such as promoting policies that guarantee basic academic ability, expanding students' educational experiences, and raising students' interest in learning at home. Finally, since this problem is not limited to education, it is suggested that all members of Daejeon Metropolitan City should be aware of the current situation and solve it together.

Abstract:
In 1917, Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi is returning from Russian captivity. And although he arrives to his native eparchy with the glory of a tsarist prisoner, nevertheless, the period of his exile has greatly affected his health. Realizing the challenges facing him, he begins consultations with his closest associates on the candidacy of a bishop-assistant for Lviv Archeparchy. Lviv Chapter considered the Metropolitan’s native brother, Father Klymentii Sheptytskyi, to be the most suitable candidate. However both of them, he personally, as well as Metropolitan Andrey, were categorically against it. Despite this, the Capitular Fathers tried, often bypassing the person of Metropolitan Andrey, to convince the Apostolic Capital to use its authority and under obedience to make Father Klymentii agree to accept the title of the Assistant Bishop of Lviv with the rights of succession. And although in the meantime His Most Reverend Bishop Ivan Buchko became the Assistant Bishop of Lviv, nevertheless, the case of Klymentii Sheptytskyi candidacy for the BishopAssistant of Lviv Archeparchy with the rights of succession was in procedure until December 22, 1939, when Metropolitan Andrey secretly ordained Father Josyf Slipyj as his assistant and successor. In the Central State Historical Archive of Lviv there are several files containing correspondence which shed light on the issue of the candidacy of Father Klymentii Sheptytskyi for the bishop-assistant of Lviv with the rights of succession. It is this correspondence that formed the basis of the present article. All documents are published for the first time. Abstract:
The city of San Francisco in California has 826,000 residents and is growing slowly compared to other large cities in the western United States, facing concerns such as an aging population and flight of families to nearby suburbs. This case study investigates the social and demographic factors that are causing this phenomenon based on data that were collected by San Francisco's city controller's office in its annual survey to residents. By using data analytics, we can predict which residents are likely to move away, and this help us infer which factors of city life and city services contribute to a resident's decision to leave the city. Results of this research indicate that factors like public transportation services, public schools, and personal finances are significant in this regard, which can potentially help the city of San Francisco to prioritize its resources in order to better retain its locals.
