Abstract:
Purpose The aim of this paper is to analyze the role of information technology (IT) in the performance of front office employees in hotels. This is done by testing and analyzing up to what level the task performance content of receptionists depends on IT and by testing and analyzing up to what level the contents of the service encounters in which they participate depend on IT. Design/methodology/approach This paper includes in-depth interviews with 30 receptionists, using the job task performance model and the critical incident technique in the service encounter model. Findings IT takes part heavily in the task performance of front office workers, who rely on IT to get their job done. On the other hand, in service encounters, the value of the human presence is still high, and in most critical incidents, IT do not participate. Research limitations/implications The sample was located in the same destination with only two types of hotels. Practical implications The dependence of front office employees with IT is so high that some of the receptionists could be substituted by IT in the near future. However, human participation in satisfactory critical incidents is very high. Social implications Receptionists should get ready and trained taking into account that the value they provide is higher in tasks that are both not routine and in which face-to-face interactions take place. Originality/value Usually, front office employees are managed with human resources view, without taking into consideration specifically how IT has spread into the hospitality industry.

Abstract:
We investigate whether university technology transfer offices, that is, divisions responsible for the commercialization of academic research, imitate their industry peers when designing their commercialization strategy. We borrow from information-based theories of imitation and the literature on academic entrepreneurship to argue that given a technology transfer office’s autonomy to strategize independently from its parent university, information from within and outside the technology transfer office affects its propensity to imitate the commercialization strategy of the “most successful peers,” that is, those with the largest live spinoff portfolio and greatest revenues from spinoffs in the industry. We contend that a technology transfer office’s experience, that is, a function of its age, represents a key internal source of information for the technology transfer office when deciding whether to imitate or not; we also consider the technology transfer office’s embeddedness in a network where the most successful peer is also a member as a key external source of information. From data on 86 British university technology transfer offices and their commercialization strategies between 1993 and 2007 that were drawn from both secondary sources and in-depth interviews with technology transfer office managers, we find that there is a negative relationship between technology transfer offices’ autonomy and their level of imitation of the most successful technology transfer office’s strategy, and that this relationship is moderated by the technology transfer offices’ age and by their membership into an association where the most successful technology transfer office is also a member.

Abstract:
With the continuous evolution and development of educational information, information technology has become an important driving force for promoting the transformation and innovation of office management. Drawing on the principles and methods of ecology, exploring the transformation of office management models supported by information technology has important theoretical significance and practical value for optimizing the structure and function of the office management ecosystem and promoting educational management reform and innovation. This study adopts a literature research method. Firstly, starting from the concept of "departmental office management", clarify the basic concepts and definitions of departmental office management, and clarify the status and functions of departmental office management. Based on analyzing the history and current situation of secondary college offices in universities, the main characteristics and functions of secondary college office management are summarized through interviews and questionnaire surveys with the school and college management, as well as grassroots teachers and students. Revealed the main problems in the office management of secondary colleges, and proposed transformation strategies for the office management of secondary colleges from the perspective of education and management ecology with a "critical reflection" attitude. This study aims to analyze and reflect on the problems that arise in the current management of departmental offices in universities, and attempt to study the management of departmental offices from an ecological perspective. It aims to provide new directions for the reform, development, and promotion of departmental office management in universities: for schools, teachers to provide new guidance for the maturity and improvement of office management concepts in universities such as students, and to provide a new approach for theoretical research on office management in university departments.

Abstract:
The U.S. Congressional Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) established a health program in 1975. During the next few years, OTA's health program published a series of reports dealing with different aspects of health technology assessment (HTA) in some depth. The key report in this series concerned the efficacy and safety of health technology, which in many ways played a ground-breaking role. It pointed out the pervasive lack of accessible information on efficacy and safety, despite more-than-adequate methods of assessment. It also pointed to many problems that resulted from this lack, and the limited use of such information in clinical practice and policy making. It promoted synthesis of existing literature as a practical method of assessment. Other key reports developed other aspects of HTA, including cost-effectiveness. These reports are generally considered to have shaped the field of HTA at least into the 1990s. OTA also pioneered the use of HTA in determining what preventive services to cover in public healthcare programs.

Abstract:
Purpose Lean office covers the improvement of administrative processes and information flows. In offices, one of the essential challenges is to coordinate the development of information management capabilities. Thus, this paper aims to identify the key factors of information management in lean office deployment contexts. Design/methodology/approach By adopting a qualitative approach, it consists of theoretical research that applies grounded theory's coding technique and exploits 27 scientific studies on lean office published in the past 20 years. Findings It identifies five key factors for managing information into an organizational structure that optimizes information flow, such as “information-seeking,” “access to information,” “information quality,” “information processing” and “use of information and communication technology”. Research limitations/implications Data analysis was restricted in scientific research regarding lean office deployment. Therefore, the accuracy of the concepts and categories of information management proposed in this paper can be adjusted and validated in future research, thus deepening the discussion of its findings. Practical implications It highlights issues for managing information in contemporary organizations such as failures in information retrieval, restrictions on access to information, lack of quality information, inadequate information processing criteria and inefficiency of information systems infrastructure. Originality/value It analyzes the lean office deployment from the theoretical framework of information management. Thus, it differs from other studies in this field because it is not limited to the operational aspects of lean management. Nevertheless, it shows that lean office reconfigures information flows and continually improves organizations’ strategic management.

Technology has made Motor Vehicle Tax services more efficient and effective. However, one of the weaknesses is that the communication network is still limited or often disrupted. This study aims to prove the influence of trust and information system technology on individual performance at the Samsat office in East Java Province. This study uses primary data sourced from the answers of the Samsat Joint Office employees who are directly related to the Motor Vehicle Tax payment information system, which is as many as ninety-four people. This study uses multiple linear regression analysis with independent variables of trust and information system technology, while individual performance is the dependent variable. Based on the results of multiple linear regression analysis, it can be concluded that trust and information system technology influence individual performance. These results prove that the individual performance of employees in the Samsat office increases if they already trust and understand the technology used. The implication is that the Samsat office must always strive for technology and motor vehicle tax application features that can satisfy its users

Abstract:
The main task in choosing candidates for filling a vacancy is to meet the demand for employees in qualitative and quantitative terms. Hiring an employee is preceded by a clear understanding of the functions he will execute, tasks and job responsibilities, rights and interactions in the organization. Based on the set-out requirements, appropriate people selected for a specific position. Staff selection remains a challenge for many companies (problem). For solving these problems, it is necessary to develop information technology for the staff selection in the office of a logistics enterprise, which will provide a decision-making process in various situations for tasks of varying computational complexity(methodology). The work goals to improve the organizational management of staff support through the development of information technology for staff selection in the office of a logistics company. To achieve this goal, you need to solve the following tasks to develop the structure of information technology for the process of staff selection in the office of a logistics company; to formulate an example of staff selection by using analytic hierarchy process. As a result of developed information technology for staff selection in the office of a logistics enterprise includes: requirements formation for the office staff for the logistics enterprise; goal formation and its decomposition, including decision-making of multi-criteria and fuzzy information, information support and rule base staff selection model in the office of a logistics enterprise; multi-criteria discrete optimization; results evaluation. The practical aspect of example of staff selection in logistics office considered the usage of the analytic hierarchy process. A hierarchy of problems ‘to choose the best candidates’ creates a matrix of pairwise comparisons for all criteria. The first level is to select the best candidate. The second level is to evaluate the criteria for candidates. The third level is to fulfil the vacancy of a logistics enterprise. The difference of the developed information technology lies in the usage of fuzzy initial information, which makes it possible to be more adequately and fully evaluate applicants for vacant vacancies (originality).

The application of information technology and an innovation found in immigration, especially at the Immigration Office, is a very important thing to always pay attention to and develop its development in the very long term, one of which is the focus on changes in terms of services at the office. With the existence of research in offices that has created an innovation regarding service and can produce several comparisons between before the innovation was made, and after the innovation was made. The results of the study conducted with this qualitative research method have explained that the immigration information technology system and an innovation in the Immigration Office still has an analysis and evaluation of making innovations that have an impact on services, and can be a development of the innovation application system. So, it is necessary to make several further studies or research related to the development of innovation in immigration information technology systems both at the Immigration Office and at other agencies that have an innovation related to the use of applications for services.

Abstract:
Abstract Objectives While electronic health records (EHRs) have improved billing efficiency and note legibility, they may also disrupt clinical workflows, affect patient interactions, and contribute to physician burnout. This study aimed to identify effective strategies, as reported by physicians, to mitigate these EHR shortcomings. Methods The Rhode Island Department of Health administers a health information technology (HIT) survey biennially to all physicians in active practice statewide. The 2019 survey asked physicians about strategies implemented personally or by their practice to improve their experience working with HIT. Physicians who identified at least one strategy were then asked if each implemented strategy was “actually useful.” Results The 2019 survey was administered to 4,266 physicians, with a response rate of 43%. Both office- and hospital-based physicians most commonly reported that their practices had implemented voice-recognition dictation software (48 and 68%, respectively). Office- and hospital-based physicians identified self-care as the most commonly implemented personal change (48 and 47%, respectively). However, 26% of office-based and 15% of hospital-based physicians reported reducing clinical hours or working part-time to improve their experience working with HIT. The strategies identified as “actually useful” varied by practice setting and were not always the most widely implemented approaches. Conclusion Most physicians reported that both they personally and their practices had implemented strategies to improve their experience with HIT. Physicians found some of these strategies more helpful than others, and the strategies identified as most useful differed between office- and hospital-based physicians. From a workforce and access perspective, prioritizing strategies that physicians find “actually useful” is critical, as many physicians in both settings reported reducing clinical hours to improve their experience.

The development of computer technology and information and communication technology has entered all aspects of life both personally and business institutions such as offices. Work behavior patterns that still apply traditional offices with modern office equipment only produce work effectiveness, but have not produced work efficiency. In this paper, we will describe the results of traditional work behavior patterns, especially the use of wasteful paper, and how to make the most of information technology that has been owned to change traditional behavior patterns into modern ones which will result in a maximum reduction in paper use. Thus the achievement of work productivity is not only in the form of work effectiveness, but work efficiency can be achieved by applying modern work behavior. This change in work behavior indirectly plays a role in helping to improve the environment, because each sheet of paper used is the result of logging as the main ingredient. The application of modern work behavior patterns will have a significant impact if carried out jointly and thoroughly at each office.

Abstract Distributing the analytical and map production capabilities of a geographic information system (GIS) to field offices benefits staff in many ways, including facilitating more informed and timely management decisions. Forest management organizations may encounter problems in shifting GIS functions from a central office to field offices, however. Success depends on the readiness of field office staff, the extent of database availability, access to the necessary technology (hardware and software), and degree of organizational commitment to the distributed-GIS approach.

This paper compares implementation frameworks for Information Technology (IT) governance and functions of a Project Management Office (PMO). While there are commonalities, the relational mechanisms called for in IT governance frameworks are omitted from the PMO functions. The authors provide a case study of a PMO at a large municipal government organization where relational mechanisms are incorporated into the risk assessment process through the use of a risk profile spider chart. Drawing conclusions from collaborative practice research, the authors discuss the use and relational aspects of the risk profile spider chart and show how this tool enables boundary spanning between the PMO and other departments by functioning as a boundary object-in-use, increasing the likelihood of buy-in for IT governance decisions. The authors conclude that the tool has potential both as a risk assessment mechanism and a boundary object for building collaboration and thus may be useful for PMOs at other organizations.
