Uppsatsens syfte var att undersöka vilken betydelse yttre påverkan och inre drivkrafter har haft i fyra individers karriärutvecklingsprocess inom en hårt konkurrensutsatt bransch, samt hur dessa har hanterat denna. Datainsamlingen genomfördes med hjälp av semistrukturerade mailenkäter, och det insamlade materialet bearbetades med hjälp av deduktiv tematisk analys. De teman som ligger till grund för analysen är: studie- och yrkesvägledning, cooling down, empowerment, informationsteorier, forskningslitteratur samt karriärvalsteorin SCCT. Studien visar att samtliga respondenter har utsatts för dämpande påverkan, cooling down, under sin uppväxt, både från skolpersonal, och den egna familjen, men också att de erhållit empowerment från andra håll. Respondenterna har hanterat denna yttre negativa påverkan på olika sätt, men gemensamt för dem alla är att de visat på en inre drivkraft, som trots den nämnda negativa påverkan gjort att de nått framgång inom sitt gebit. Vi drar slutsatsen att respondenternas strävan att lyckas varit starkare än påverkansfaktorerna, samt att empowerment fungerat.
Our aim in this essay was to examine what importance external influence and internal impulses have had in four individuals' career development process in a competitive sector, and how they have handled the situation. The gathering of facts was implemented with the use of semistructured mail-interviews, and processed, using a deductive thematic analysis. The themes were as follows: guidance counseling, cooling down, empowerment, theories of information, former research and SCCT. The study shows that all respondents have been the victims of downcooling effects in their youth, both from school personnel, and the immediate family, but that they also received empowerment from other sources. They have handled the negative impact in various ways, but they all possessed a strong internal desire to create a successful career, that has overcome the negative impact. Therefore we draw the conclusions that the endeavor to succeed has outlasted the downcooling, and that empowerment indeed works.

Odds and Ids is a satirical novel of 419 pages that ridicules the tenets of psychotherapy and the beliefs and behaviors of psychotherapists. There are two story lines which overlap and converge at the end. Odd chapters tell the story of semi-sane Clinical Psychologist Nicholas K. Mavros and his alcoholic dog, Misty, the melancholy collie. Disillusioned by life, and in particular by the sham of psychotherapy, Nick decides to commit suicide in seven days by driving his burgundy van off the Billy Bopplemeyer Pier at sunset.He and Misty form a sacred pact to achieve that gallant end. Knowing that he will be dead in one week frees Nick at work and play to say what he is thinking and to act as he is feeling. He simply does not care any longer what others--friends, staff, and clients--think of his behavior. The odd chapters follow him day by day until he and Misty plunge or do not plunge into the cold waters of Puget Sound.The even chapters trace the rise and fall of the fictional Rumanian Bithwanians, a strange family that personifies postFreudian psychotherapy. Three generations of odd Bithwanians bungle through the bizarre world of mental health, seldom knowing the first thing about how to help another human being. This professes to be a poetic commentary to the Nemean odes of Pindar. It argues for a re-evaluation of this poet's epinikia as poetry and has taken as its principal focus the stuff that is critically ignored or devalued. Much that Pindar writes is difficult in that it is at once dense and dynamic, obedient to the strictures of a genre and yet never ruled by them. He invites commentary and scholars have for the most part centred their considerable efforts on decoding genius. There is as much literature on the poet and his relatively inaccessible work as there is an absence of poetic appreciation of it. The desire for a system of language, a master decoder of metaphor, imagery and thought processes, and the desire to find unity of thought, for Grundgedanken , for correspondences, structural parallels and polarities is the engine that drives the philologist reading these odes. But Pindar defies system.

The relationship of women to gambling is explored, placing it in its historical, legal and social context. An account of the gambler as a person is presented with reference to the various theories on why it is that people gamble at all and on occasions to their own destruction. An analysis of the existing sources of data draws attention to the invisibility of women when they move within a traditionally male domain and the prejudices they encounter when they try to join the male gambling group. Theories of gambling are then re-examined from a gender perspective, focusing on the way that women differ emotionally and economically from men and from each other. A series of assumptions is placed under scrutiny; i.e. that women take fewer risks in their lives and prefer harmony to competition; that women in general prefer less isolated experiences of gambling and shun the potential loss inevitable in this experience. The analysis embraces those women who gamble in supportive groups and those who become more isolated as their gambling develops a pathological tinge, together with women who manage to combine both forms of activity. Gambling activity is surveyed in the context of an established setting into which adult women must physically enter in order to play, that is; the dog or horse track; the casino; the bingo hall; the bookmakers. The high participation rate of women in bingo playing leads to a reassessment of women's propensity to gamble when social economic and psychological barriers are minimised. The thesis concludes with the view that it is the traditional “hidden from history" phenomena that operate to keep the participation of women in gambling activities a social secret and acknowledges the political and policy implications for women if attention is drawn to their involvement.

In this work, our goal is to prove results on prolongation of solutions, uniform boundedness of solutions, uniform stability as well uniform asymptotic stability (in the classical sense of Lyapunov) for measure differential equations and for dynamic equations on time scales. In order to get our results, we employ the theory of generalized ODEs, since these equations encompass measure differential equations and dynamic equations on time scales. Therefore, to get our results, we start by proving the expected result for abstract generalized ODEs. Then, using the correspondence between the solutions of these equations and the solutions of measure differential equations (see [38]), we extend all the results to these the latter. After that, using the correspondence between the solutions of measure differential equations and the solutions of dynamic equations on time scales (see [21]), we extend all the results to these last equations. Finally, we investigate autonomous generalized ODEs and show that these equations do not enlarge the class of classical autonomous ODEs, even when we consider a more general class of functions as right-hand sides. All the new results presented in this work are contained in papers [16, 17, 18, 19].Neste trabalho, nosso objetivo e provar resultados sobre prolongamento de soluções, limitação uniforme de soluções, estabilidade uniforme e estabilidade uniforme assintótica (no sentido clássico de Lyapunov) para equações diferenciais em medida e para equações dinâmicas em escalas temporais. A fim de obter os nossos resultados, empregamos a teoria de EDOs generalizadas, uma vez que estas equações abrangem equações diferenciais em medida e equações dinâmicas em escalas temporais. Portanto, para obter nossos resultados, vamos começar por provar, os resultados que queremos para EDOs generalizadas abstratas. Em seguida, usando a correspondência entre as soluções de EDOs generalizadas e soluções de equações diferenciais em medida (ver [38]), estenderemos os resultados para estas ultimas equações. Depois disso, usando a correspondência entre as soluções de equações diferenciais em medida e as soluções de equações dinâmicas em escalas temporais (ver [21]), estenderemos todos os resultados para estas ultimas equações. Mūsų darbo tikslas buvo ištirti naviko proliferacijos žymens Ki-67 prognozinę ir prediktyvinę reikšmę bei imunologinius pokyčius neišplitusia melanoma sergantiems pacientams Pacientai ir metodai: Tiriant Ki-67 žymens prognozinę ir prediktyvinę reikšmę, retrospektyviai buvo ištirti 80 pacientų, kuriems buvo nustatyta neišplitusi melanoma su naviko storiu ≥ 1,5 mm. Vykdant prospektyvinį tyrimą, buvo išanalizuoti imunologiniai duomenys 27 pacientų, kuriems buvo nustatyta neišplitusi melanoma (pTis-pT4N0M0). Melanoma sergančių pacientų imunologiniai rodikliai buvo palyginti su 39 kontrolinės grupės asmenų atitinkamais rodikliais. Rezultatai: Ki-67 žymuo neturėjo prognozinės reikšmės negydytiems IFN-α melanoma sergantiems pacientams, su naviko storių ≥ 1,5 mm. Tuo tarpu gydytų IFN-α pacientų su Ki-67<16% išgyvenimas buvo ilgesnis negu pacientų su Ki-67 ≥ 16% (p=0,016). Tiriant imunologinius parametrus buvo nustatyta, kad melanoma sergančių pacientų periferiniame kraujyje yra mažiau monocitų (p=0,0002) ir citotoksinių T limfocitų CD8highCD57- (p=0,009). Sergantys neišplitusia melanoma pacientai periferiniame kraujyje turi reikšmingai daugiau CD4+ (p=0,02) ir CD8low (p=0,04) limfocitų. Išvados: Ki-67 proliferacijos žymuo neturi prognozinės reikšmės neišplitusia melanoma sergantiems pacientams, ir įgyja prediktyvinę reikšmę gydytiems IFN-α pacientams. Neišplitusia melanoma sergantiems pacientams stebimi reikšmingi imunokompetentinių ląstelių pokyčiai periferiniame kraujyje.The aim of the study was to explore the prognostic and predictive significance of proliferative index Ki-67 and changes of imunological parameters in non-metastatic melanoma patients MATERIALS AND METHODS: To explore the prognostic and predictive significance of the proliferative index Ki-67, a retrospective analysis was performed with 80 patients, in whom primary non-metastatic melanoma with tumour thickness of ≥ 1,5 mm was diagnosed. A prospective study was performed to explore the immunological parameters in 27 patients who had been diagnosed with non-metastatic melanoma (pTis-pT4N0M0). The immunologic parameter values of patients were compared with those of the control group (39 subjects). RESULTS: Proliferative index Ki-67 in primary tumours had no significant prognostic value in melanoma patients non-treated with IFN-α, tumour thickness≥ 1.5 mm. However, survival of IFN-α treated non-metastatic melanoma patients with Ki-67 expressed in <16% cells was longer than that of the patients with Ki-67 expressed in ≥ 16% cells (p=0,016). The investigation of immunological parameters showed that the peripheral blood of melanoma patients contained a smaller amount of monocytes (p=0.0002) as well as cytotoxic T lymphocytes CD8highCD57- (p=0,009) compared to healthy controls (p=0.009). Diplominiame darbe „Deja vu Afrika“ nagrinėjama, Afrikos tradicinė taikomojo meno estetinė sankloda ir jos semantika. Ieškoma sąsajų tarp Afrikietiškos ir Baltiškosios kultūrų. Juodasis žemynas turtingas ne tik gamta, bet ir įstabiu etniniu paveldu. Afrikos archajiškos kultūrinės tradicijos yra gyvos ir šiandieną tenykščių žmonių papročiuose, buityje, religinėse apeigose. Tai platus tyrimų ir interpretacijų laukas, leidžiantis pasireikšti neribotai fantazijai. Tyrinėjant afrikietiškos kultūros simbolius, kartu praplečiama mūsų baltiškųjų simbolių samprata. Šia studija siekiama parodyti, kad netikėtas atpažįstamumo jausmas, kylantis kūrėjui, gali būti inspiruotas ir kituose kraštuose realiai egzistuojančių simbolių. Šešių modelių kolekcija „Deja vu Afrika“ – tai žvilgsnis kitu kampu į Afrikietiškas tradicines rankines, kuriomis interpretuojant siekiama suteikti sukurtai rankinių kolekcijai savito išskirtinumo. Kūrybinė idėja inspiruota tradicinės Afrikos moterų audeklinės skaros khanga. Tai skara-aksesuaras, kuri labai plačiai naudojama čiabuvių. Joje šio žemyno moterys nešioja savo vaikus, daiktus, jomis puošiasi pačios. Kolekcijoje tradicinė skara virsta konceptualiomis odinėmis rankinėmis, krepšiais, kišenėmis. Aksesuaruose naudojamos tradicinės ir savitos odos pynimo, dažymo technologijos, organiškas spalvų bei formų žaismas.The final thesis ”De javu Africa” analyses aesthetical background and semantics of traditional applied art of Africa. The interfaces between African and Baltic cultures are being searched. The black continent is rich not only in its nature but in its magnificent aesthetic heritage, too. African archaic cultural traditions are alive in the customs of indigenous people, their everyday life and religious rituals. It is a wide field for research and interpretations, which allows manifestation of unlimited imagination. Exploration of African cultural symbols expands the conception of our Baltic symbols. This study aims to show that a sudden feeling of recognizability that comes over creator may be inspired by the symbols actually existing in other countries. The collection of six models “De javu Africa” is a glimpse from a different angle in African traditional handbags, the interpretation of which is intended to provide specific uniqueness to the designed collection of handbags. The creative idea has been inspired by traditional African women fabric shawl called khanga. This is the shawl – accessory which is widely used by African women. They carry their children and things by them as well as smarten themselves by wearing them. In the collection traditional shawl becomes conceptual leather handbags, bags and pockets. In accessories traditional and peculiar technologies of leather weaving and dyeing are used, as well as organic play of colours and forms is applied.

The focus of this thesis is to find efficient ways of solving certain types of ODEs and PDEs. We have implemented a time upscaling method called Multiscale timestepping technique for this problems. In this method discretization of PDEs are transformed into wavelet basis, which divides the solution and the discretized differential operator into coarse scales and fine scales. Larger time steps are then used for solving the fine scale elements. In numerical experiments we show that the accuracy of the solution is maintained but the computational cost is significantly reduced compared to standard methods.Denna uppsats behandlar effektiva metoder för att lösa vissa typer av ODE och PDE. Vi har implementerat en metod för tidsuppskaling som är baserad på tidsstegning med flera skalor. Metoden utgår från en vanlig rumsdiskretisering av en PDE. Den transformeras till en wavelet-bas som delar upp lösningen och den diskretiserade differentialoperatorn i grova och fina skalor. Stora tidssteg används sedan för att approximera de element som motsvarar fina skalor. I numeriska experiment visar vi att noggrannheten i lösningen bibehålls, men att beräkningskostnaden jämfört med standardmetoder blir betydligt mindre.

Bakterinės odos ligos yra vienos dažniausių šunų odos ligų. Darbo tikslas buvo išanalizuoti šunų bakterinių odos ligų patogenezę, klinikinius požymius, diferencinę diagnostiką bei gydymo principus. 2012 – 2013 metais LSMU VA Dr. L. Kriaučeliūno smulkiųjų gyvūnų klinikoje buvo renkami duomenys apie šunų sergamumą bakterinėmis odos ligomis. 301 šuniui buvo diagnozuota odos ligos (201 iš sirgusiųjų sirgo bakterinėmis ligomis, 95 iš jų patelės, 106 – patinai). Klinikinė diagnozė patvirtinta remiantis atliktais mikroskopiniu, mikologiniu ir bakteriologiniu tyrimais. Patinai odos ligomis sirgo dažniau nei patelės (55,48 proc. palyginti su 44,52 proc.) ir dažniausiai sirgo šunys, kurių amžius buvo nuo vienerių iki penkerių metų (43,52 proc.), rečiausiai – vyresni nei penkerių metų šunys (26,24 proc., p<0,001). Dažniausiai odos ligomis šunys serga pavasarį (33,90 proc., p<0,001), rečiausiai rudenį (16,60 proc., p<0,001). Dažniausiai bakterinėmis odos ligomis sirgo čiau čiau (100 proc., p<0,01), amerikiečių Stafordšyro terjerų (90 proc., p<0,01) ir auksaspalvių retriverių (84,62 proc., p<0,01)veislių šunims. Nustatyta, kad dažniausiai bakterinių odos ligų sukėlėjai yra Staphylococcus spp. (37,76 proc.) bakterijos. Labai tikėtina, kad tai buvo Staphylococcus pseudointermedius, Staphylococcus delphini ir Staphylococcus epidermidis, tačiau jos fenotipiškai neidentifikuotos. Taip pat dažnas bakterinių ligų sukėlėjas yra Staphylococcus aureus (31,47 proc.). Nustatytas bakterijų jautrumas... Work aim – to analyse the pathogenesis of the bacterial skin diseases of dogs, their clinical symptoms, differential diagnostics and treatment principles. In 2012–2013 data on the dog morbidity (bacterial skin diseases) has been collected at Dr. L. Kriaučeliūnas Small Animal Clinic of Veterinary Academy of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. Skin diseases have been diagnosed to 301 dogs (201 of them were ill with the bacterial diseases, 95 of them were females, and 106 – males). Clinical diagnosis has been approved according to the microscopic, mycological and bacteriological tests. Male dogs were ill with the skin diseases more often compared to the females (55.48% vs. 44.52%), and the dogs from one to five years old have been ill the most often (43.52%), rariest – dogs older than five years (26.24, p<0.001). Dogs are ill with the skin diseases in spring (33.90%, p<0.001) the most often, rarest – in autumn (16.60%, p<0.001). Chow Chow (100%, p<0.01), American Staffordshire terriers (90%, p<0.01) and Golden Retrievers (84.62%, p<0.01) were ill with the baterial skin diseases the most often. It has been determined that the most common factor of the bacterial skin diseases is Staphylococcus spp. (37.76%) bacteria. A influência da tradição eólica representada pelos dois musicistas de Lesbos, Safo e Alceu, pautou a maioria das escolhas temáticas e formais do poeta. Odes compostas em metros asclepiadeus e jônicos kataV stivcon, em estrofes sáficas, alcaicas e asclepiadéias e em dísticos de formação variada (cola datílicos, sáficos, jâmbicos e trocaicos), mostram ritmos próprios, capazes de imprimir, no ânimo do ouvinte, sensações diferenciadas, de acordo com a natureza da seqüência métrica empregada. A teoria do ethos métrico leva em consideração o conceito da conveniência (Prevpon, decorum): conteúdo e forma em harmonia na criação poética. Os efeitos impressivos das medidas gregas, naturalizadas por Horácio, que deu feição datílica aos versos eólicos, fixou quantidades livres e disciplinou as estrofes, devem-se ao caráter psicagógico dos metros, herdado da antiga teoria musical. Desde Platão e Aristóteles, passando por Cícero, Demétrio, Dionísio de Halicarnasso, Longino e Quintiliano, registramse a preocupação de classificar os metros de acordo com sua adequação a cada tipo de composição e a censura de seu uso indiscriminado na prosa e na poesia. A análise rítmico-semântica de algumas odes de Horácio revelou o zelo do poeta em combinar forma e conteúdo e em selecionar palavras de composição sonora e formação métrica em harmonia com o sentido. Nas Odes a musicalidade do ritmo métrico tem implicações semânticas, realçando a expressão textual.It has been observed in Horace\'s Odes books that he has employed thirteen metrical schemes distributed among thematic different poems. Aeolic tradition influence, represented by the two Lesbian musicians Sappho and Alcaeus, was responsible for most of the formal and thematic choices of the poet. Odes written in asclepiadean meters and ionic kataV stivcon, in sapphic, alcaic end asclepiadean strophes and in various distics (cola datctylics, sapphics, iambics and trochaics) show their own rhythms, which are able to impress different sensations to their listeners, according to the nature of the metrical sequence used. The theory of metrical ethos considers the convenience concept (Prevpon, decorum): subject and form harmonically living in poetic creation. The impressive effects of greek measures, (which were naturalized by Horace, gave dactylic features to the aeolic verses, fixed free amounts and regulated the strophes), are due to the psychagogic character of the meters, inherited by the old musical theory. Since Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, Demetrius, Dionysius of Halicarnassus, Longinus and Quintilianus, there is a worry at classifying meters according to their adequacy to each kind of composition and disapproval of its nonrestrictive use in prose and poetry. The rhythmic-semantics analysis of some odes from Horace revealed the poet care to combine form and subject and to select sonorous words and metrics in harmony with sense. In Odes, metrics rhythm musicality has semantic implications that highlight the textual expression.

There is a small, methodologically diverse body of research indicating that approximately 20% of families provide disproportionate amounts of foster caregiving, place fewer restrictions on characteristics of children they are willing to foster and actually do foster, and provide caregiving environments as good as or better than those provided by other foster families. Cherry and Orme (2013) conceptualized this phenomenon in terms of the Pareto Principle, also known as the 80-20 rule or the Vital Few, and they refer to these 20% of families as the Vital Few and the remaining 80% as the Useful Many. This review will examine and synthesize the available research on Vital Few foster families and explore next steps in the development of this body of research.

This research examines the relationship between higher education and eventual marriage in Canada using statistical, ethnographic and historical data. Data from the 1971, 1976 and 1981 Canadian census Public Use Sample Tapes are used to determine if the inverse relationship between higher education and eventual marriage for women in the United States is observed in the Canadian population. The data indicate a strong, negative relationship between higher education and eventual marriage for women in Canada. Although the relationship appears to be weakening, in 1981 20 percent of women, age 50-64 with a bachelor's degree and 27 percent with a graduate or professional degree never married compared to 5 percent of women with a high school education. For men in the same age group there was no difference in the percent who never married by educational level. Men with a high school education, bachelor's or graduate degree all had a nonmarriage rate of 8 percent. To account for this relationship for women, census data is also used to analyze mating preferences and sex ratios in Canada. With respect to education the preferences are in the predicted direction. Men tend to marry women with equal or less education and women tend to marry men with equal or greater education. This contributes to an unfavorable ratio of eligible males to highly educated females who have postponed marriage until their thirties.
In addition, this research examines the relationship between education and marriage as it is perceived by the highly educated, unmarried woman. The data are from in-depth interviews with a sample of 15 never married women with professional and graduate degrees engaged in professional careers. The study profiles the career goals of these women and their expectations and perceptions about marriage. The women were not found to be antimarriage or antifamily. The major factor contributing to the women's postponement of marriage is the incompatibility of traditional marriage with career commitment, especially during the early stages of career development. The combination of both family life and participation in the labor force is difficult for women to manage, but add to that many years of post-secondary schooling, long hours of weekend work, geographic mobility and a competitive work environment and it is not difficult to understand that these women wait until their careers are established before trying to combine family life (as it is now structured) and career. Another important factor contributing to the women's postponement of marriage is their perception that most men have not changed their expectations of what men and women do for each other in a marital arrangement. They feel the majority of eligible males prefer a wife that will subordinate her own career development to the demands of family. For these women, the ideal marriage is one where both husband and wife have continuous and self-fulfilling extra-domestic career roles as well as meaningful and involving family roles.
Finally, this research also provides a historical perspective on the relationship between education and marriage. Although higher education for women carried within it the potential for dramatic change in women's occupational as well as psychological states, a survey of one hundred years of college and domesticity in America shows that this dramatic shift did not occur. Unlike feminists involved in political struggle, the earliest women in higher education did not have clearly defined targets or goals. Even into the mid-twentieth century higher education for
women insured a clinging to traditional values of domesticity, placed in a frame
of professionalism, and hindered the ease with which college-educated women could choose life styles not sanctioned by domesticity. Pagrindinė problema, su kuria susiduriama minkštinant odą – nėra prietais�� odos minkštumui nustatyti. Minkštumas vertinamas pagal odos standumą, o šis apskaičiuojamas išmatavus santykinį poilgį, esant tam tikro dydžio įtempiams.
Norint nustatyti odos minkštumą, tiksliau, santykinį slankumą, su 113 minkštintos odos bandinių buvo atlikti du eksperimentai – tūrinis dviašis ir vienaašis tempimai.
Grafiškai pavaizdavus santykinio slankumo, matuoto tūrinio dviašio tempimo principu, S0 priklausomybę nuo storio paaiškėjo, kad turimos odos bandinius reikia suskirstyti į dvi grupes. Tam buvo sprendžiamas režimo pasikeitimo uždavinys. Įžvelgus daugiau galimų režimo pasikeitimo taškų – režimo pasikeitimo uždavinio sprendimas pakartotas dar du kartus.
Buvo apskaičiuoti gautų grupių grupuotų duomenų vidurkių ir dispersijų taškiniai ir intervaliniai įverčiai bei koreliacija.
Visose nagrinėtose imtyse santykinio slankumo S0, matuoto tūrinio dviašio tempimo principu, duomenų dispersija yra kur kas mažesnė nei santykinio slankumo S1, matuoto vienaašio tempimo metodu, duomenų ir santykinio slankumo S0 grupuotos imties vidurkio bei dispersijos pasikliautinieji intervalai yra siauresni negu santykinio slankumo S1 grupuotos imties.

A number of particular softening technologies can be used, i.e. by means of a vibration punch, or using rotating shafts in flow machines, etc. The main issue encountered in the process of leather softening is unavailability of metering tools for determination of softening effect. Softness of leather is determined based on it’s rigidity, while the rigidity is calculated on the basis of measuring relation elongation at a certain tensioning. For the purpose of assessment of leather softness, or, to be more precise, relational fluidity, two experiments have been performed on 113 samples of softened leather, i.e. volume-based dual-axis tensioning and single-axis tensioning. Graphical rendering of the dependence of the relational fluidity, measured according to the principle of volume-based dual-axis tensioning, S0, on the thickness of leather has shown that the samples could be classified under two categories. For this purpose, a structural-change problem had to be resolved. As more possible structural change-points were identified, the structural-change problem was resolved two times more. The calculations have resulted in mean values and dispersion range values (point values and range values), as well as relevant correlations for the groups of the samples. The main part of this thesis is a survey of Pindar's treatment, in his epinicians, of myths involving the mythological family of the Aiakids. I establish what may be known of Pindar's sources for these stories, and then compare his own accounts. I consider (together with some minor incidents) Aiakos' assist- ance in building the walls of Troy; Phokos' murder; Peleus' experience with Hippolyta and Akastos, and his marriage to Thetis; Telamon's participation in Herakles' expedition against Troy; Achilles' infancy, his combats against Telephos, Kyknos, Hektor and Memnon, and his own fate; Aias' birth and suicide; and finally the story of Neoptolemos' visit to Delphi (chapters 1-7). My major conclusion is that his versions of these myths are more firmly grounded in the mythological tradition than is widely believed: they are constantly allusive, and contain little innovation. What changes there are may be ascribed to a broad rationalizing tendency, rather than to sophisticated poetic purposes. Pindar seems to prefer lesser known, often locally preserved, strands of tradition, but is concerned to produce authoritative accounts of them. The defensive tone of N. 7 may be satisfactorily explained by his care to produce such an account from confused and undignified material; the poem does not contain an apology for a hostile treatment of Neo- ptolemos in Pae.6. In chapter 8, I confirm my conclusions by examining three difficult cases: the myths of P. 3, O.I, and the break-off from the first myth of 0. 9. These examples confirm that traditional material has intrinsic value in epinician, and suggest the conclusion that the explication of a paradeigmatic relation between myth and victory is not the only valid explan- ation of the function of myth in Pindar. Myth may also serve to provide a publicly acceptable warrant for the praise of the victor.

Trata-se, portanto, de uma abordagem que privilegia não o sentido, como se faz de costume no âmbito acadêmico, mas, sim, alguns elementos formais bem específicos (o metro e o ritmo), os quais são caros ao tema central da tese que defendemos: a da unidade rítmica nos epinícios aqui estudados.This work is comprised of a metrical and rhythmical study of Pindar\'s Pythian Odes, as well as a translation of said poems with a view to reproduce the metrical and rhythmical aspects that were identified during the study. Hence, this approach focuses not on the meaning of the poems, as it is usually done in the academy, but on specific formal elements (meter and rhythm) that are dear to this thesis\' central theme: the rhythmic unity of these victory odes.

Il s’agira, en combinant la théorie des opérations énonciatives, la sémantique et l’interprétation littéraire, de mieux comprendre le rôle des marqueurs grammaticaux et leur usage original dans la poétique de Keats, et de voir comment l’auteur utilise de façon signifiante les catégories grammaticales et les valeurs qui leur sont associées pour donner aux termes de l’énoncé poétique un surcroît expressif tendant vers ce que Antoine Culioli appelle le haut degré notionnel. Ce faisant, nous serons amené à mettre à jour d’autres procédés créateurs d’expressivité poétique : la polysémie, la mise en réseaux lexicale, thématique ou prosodique, la discontinuité textuelle, logique, référentielle ou pragmatique, les figures de style (métaphores, métonymies, oxymores, synesthésies), la trans-polarité et la trans-énonciativité — notre objectif constant restant de voir comment la grammaire se prête à ces procédés expressifs. In doing so, we will bring to light other devices that partake in poetic expressivity: polysemy, lexical, thematic or prosodic network structuring, textual, logical, referential or pragmatic discontinuity, figures of speech (metaphor, metonymy, oxymoron, synesthesia), trans-polarity and trans-enunciativity. Our constant aim will be to focus on the way grammar lends itself to those expressive forms. We shall first analyse expressive forms in the nominal group, then in verbal determination, and finally, we shall see how prepositions are similarly turned into markers of poetic expressivity

Prediction markets provide a promising approach for future event prediction. Most existing prediction market approaches are based on auction mechanisms. Despite their theoretical appeal and success in various application settings, these mechanisms suffer from several major drawbacks. First, opinions from experts and amateurs are treated equally. Second, continuous attention from participants is assumed. Third, such mechanisms are subject to various forms of market manipulation. To alleviate these limitations, we propose to employ the classic fixed odds betting as an alternative prediction market mechanism. We build a structural model based on a belief-decision framework as the event probability estimator. This belief-decision framework models bettors' beliefs with mixed beta distributions and bettors' decisions with prospect theory. A maximum likelihood approach is applied to estimate the model parameters. We conducted experiments on three real-world betting datasets to evaluate our proposed approach. Experimental results show that fixed odds betting based prediction outperforms the reduced form models based on odds and betting results, and achieves a comparable performance with auction-based prediction markets. The results suggest the possibility of employing fixed odds betting as a prediction market in a variety of application contexts where the assumptions made by auction-based approaches do not hold.

In the first part the theoretical research work focuses on the accurate description of the candidate materials in a research fusion reactor ITER. Following are detailed constructional ODS materials and tungsten alloy as a material of the first wall. The second part of the theoretical research deals with various possibilities of joining high-melting dissimilar materials such as brazing or electron beam welding as well, which will be established in the experimental section. The experimental part of the thesis deals with a joining ODS steel MA 956 with sintered carbide WC-Co and ODS tungsten. These materials are welded by electron beam. Individual samples are distinguished used filler material, preheating or welding parameters. Safeguarding children in the UK generates few reports of success. Poor or tragic outcomes continue to be associated with collaborative failures despite recurring attempts by Government to improve joint working. These initiatives are often justified on the basis of improving outcomes but the basis for such claims remains unclear. Better knowledge is needed of what success means in safeguarding children and the part played by collaborative practice. This study contributes to this knowledge by exploring the perspectives of different participants on success and collaboration and their inter-relationship. It adopts an interpretive stance and uses a multiple embedded case study design to gain an in-depth portrait of success and collaboration in one children’s trust area. This portrait is built from an analysis of interview, observation and documentary data drawn from three different collaborative domains within the children’s trust: the Local Safeguarding Children Board; the workplace of two safeguarding teams; and accounts of safeguarding work with individual children and parents. In a context where there is an overriding concern to avoid failure, success can be found, but in multiple, coexisting forms that vary for different participants. These successes relate to organisational improvements, personal gains and resiliencies, symbolic achievements, as well as perceived benefits for children and parents. For organisations and to some extent for practitioners, the imperatives of organisational improvement and regulatory compliance encourage collaborative practices that are self-serving and focused on surveillance and risk management. For parents, austerity and marginalization limit opportunities to engage services. Despite these unpromising circumstances, this study finds evidence of collaborative practice by parents and by practitioners that contributes to participant satisfaction and meaningful change in children’s and parents’ lives. Such forms of success are likely to be further cultivated by respectful services that family members can engage with, relational practices between practitioners and family members, and acknowledging and learning from their successes. These developments require multi-organisational arrangements that have the power and capacity to develop safeguarding systemically, workplaces that contain the open climate necessary for sharing achievements as well as uncertainties, and leaders with the ability to inspire confidence in practitioners and courage to bring about change.

This thesis consists of the manuscripts of three research papers studying stochastic ODEs (ordinary differential equations) and PDEs (partial differential equations) that arise in biological models of interacting multi-type populations.
In the first paper I prove uniqueness of the martingale problem for a degenerate SDE (stochastic differential equation) modelling a catalytic branching network. This work is an extension of a paper by Dawson and Perkins to arbitrary networks. The proof is based upon the semigroup perturbation method of Stroock and Varadhan. In the proof estimates on the corresponding semigroup are given in terms of weighted Hölder norms, which are equivalent to a semigroup norm in this generalized setting. An explicit representation of the semigroup is found and estimates using cluster decomposition techniques are derived.
In the second paper I investigate the long-term behaviour of a special class of the SDEs considered above, involving catalytic branching and mutation between types. I analyse the behaviour of the overall sum of masses and the relative distribution of types in the limit using stochastic analysis. For the latter existence, uniqueness and convergence to a stationary distribution are proved by the reasoning of Dawson, Greven, den Hollander, Sun and Swart. One-dimensional diffusion theory allows for a complete analysis of the two-dimensional case.
In the third paper I show that one can construct a sequence of rescaled perturbations of voter processes in d=1 whose approximate densities are tight. This is an extension of the results of Mueller and Tribe for the voter model. We combine critical long-range and fixed kernel interactions in the perturbations. In the long-range case, the approximate densities converge to a continuous density solving a class of SPDEs (stochastic PDEs). For integrable initial conditions, weak uniqueness of the limiting SPDE is shown by a Girsanov theorem. A special case includes a class of stochastic spatial competing species models in mathematical ecology. Tightness is established via a Kolmogorov tightness criterion. Here, estimates on the moments of small increments for the approximate densities are derived via an approximate martingale problem and Green's function representation.

We examined part and full thickness skin mechanical lesions and full thickness skin burns. The objectives: to estimate recombinant human growth hormone Biosoma impact on mechanically inflicted animal part thickness cutaneous wound healing according to histomorphometrical evaluation of the wound bed collagen; to evaluate recombinant human growth hormone Biosoma influence on full thickness skin mechanical wound healing in accordance with the wound contour changing; to choose the thermal exposition parameters for inflicting standard full thickness contact skin burn in animal; to evaluate the influence of recombinant human growth hormone Biosoma on animal full thickness skin burn healing and to compare it with the full thickness skin mechanical wound healing; to estimate the influence of recombinant human growth hormone Biosoma on animal full thickness burn ECM synthesis according to histomorphometrical wound bed collagen measurements. According to the research data, all types skin wounds (part and full thickness skin mechanical and full thickness burn) healed faster, their wound bed collagen fibers synthesis and maturation were faster in the experimental animals (rats) treated with rhGH Biosoma 5.6 IU (2.0 mg/kg a day) injections.

Methods for assessing small peripheral nerve fiber function objectively are limited. The cutaneous silent period (CuSP), a transient supression of electromyographic voluntary activity that follows painful stimuli, could serve as an objective functional measure of the A delta fibers.
The aim of this study was to evaluate function of small diameter A delta nerve fibers using the CuSP in normals and in patients with both focal (carpal tunnel syndrome - CTS) and generalised (polyneuropathies - PNP) peripheral nerve injuries.
The objectives of the study were the following:
1. To determine the CuSP normal values by age, gender, side, height and weight in healthy controls.
2. To study the topography and extension of the CuSP by changing recording and stimulating sites in healthy controls.
3. To evaluate the CuSP in patients with CTS of different severity and to compare these results with those of healthy controls.
4. To estimate the CuSP onset latency and duration in relation with median nerve evoked compound muscle action potential amplitude, distal latency and conduction velocity in patients with CTS.
5. To evaluate the CuSP in patients with PNP of different types and to compare these results with those of healthy controls.

1. Introduction
The pathology of chronic ulcers of legs is quite often and it makes a huge influence on the daily life of a patient. According to the literature, ulcers open to 1,5 from 1000 people who are under the age of 65, and if we take into account healed up ulcers of legs, there are 36 people from 1000 to whom ulcers of legs have ever been opened. The reason of ulcers up to 80% of all cases is chronic insufficiency of veins. In Lithuania there are about 150 000 patients suffering from the chronic insufficiency of leg vein blood circulation, and about 30 000 of which are venous ulcers of legs. As in Lithuania in some of the medical institutions the treatment and the prophylaxis of chronic venous blood circulation and ulcers is insufficient, the above mentioned numbers of patients may be even higher.
All the authors have noted that the oftenest reason of CUL is the insufficiency of venous blood circulation. In this case, CUL open due to the increased pressure in leg veins. The main reason for that is the insufficiency of surface and deep veins and the perforating vein valves. Nous insistons sur le style poétique et prophétique qui donne un caractère particulier au texte. Dans le chapitre ii, nous donnons notre traduction des 42 odes avec, en notes, a l'occasion des variantes quand le texte l'exige. La deuxième section s'intitule "de l'expérience spirituelle à la désignation du christ. Le chapitre iii traite de la christologie sous l'angle sotériologique. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is limited by depth penetration and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), impacting the ability to resolve subsurface features. Stacking, a process of averaging multiple scans in the same location, improves SNR. Digital antennas are capable of stacking at much higher rates than analog antennas. Four sites were examined using a GSSI SIR-4000 GPR unit with a 400 MHz analog antenna and a 350 MHz digital “hyperstacking” (350 HS) antenna. Sites represent various soil conditions, with known features. Data were compared qualitatively and quantitatively for differences in antenna outputs. Visual inspection of radargrams indicate a reduction in noise in the 350 HS data compared to the 400 MHz data. Quantitative assessments identified significant differences in standard deviation of radar reflection amplitude occurring at depth with both antennas and a reduction in noise and marginal increases in depth of penetration in low-loss conditions with the 350 MHz HS antenna.

The critical analysis section of this dissertation seeks to define the ode using examples in translation from Greek and Latin odes and examples in English written from the 1500s to the 2000s. Although most definitions of the ode contend that this subgenre of the lyric is an occasional poem of praise that includes a meditative or mythological element, the ode is far more complex. An ode is an occasional poem, but it works to privilege rather than strictly praise its subject, allowing for the speaker's ambivalence toward the subject. Meditation is a key element of the ode, since the poet uses the subject as a means for moving to the meditation or as a conduit through which the meditation occurs. The meditation in the poem is also a way for the poet or speaker to negotiate the relationship between the subject and herself; thus, the ode is concerned with power, since the poet must place herself or the speaker in relation to the subject. Power thus may be granted to either the speaker or the subject; the poet names and speaks of the subject, and often the poet names and speaks of himself in relation to the subject. Additionally, odes usually contain some exhortation, generally directed to the subject if not to those surrounding the reader or capable of "listening in" to the performance of the poem. This definition, it should be noted, is intended to be fluid. In order for a poem to be relevant to its age, it must either adhere to or usefully challenge the contemporary concerns. Thus, while many of the odes discussed will contain the elements of this definition, others will work against the definition. In the remainder of the introduction, I examine ancient models and twentieth- and twenty-first century examples of the ode as a means of exploring what an ode is and how it can undermine the elements of the definition and still work as a poem of this subgenre. In the second section of the dissertation are lyric poems, many of which fit in varying degrees the definition laid out in the critical analysis.

The thesis is focused on microstructural stability of heterogeneous weld joint of ODS steel and tungsten. The theoretical part summarizes the basic information about the structure and properties of ODS steels and describes the methods of joining these steels with tungsten. In the experimental part, materials MA956 and WL10 were welded by using electron beam. The individual samples differ by preheating temperature or use filler material. After annealing at 800 °C/1h and 1000 °C/5h, a change of the weld metal microstructure was evaluated by using scanning electron microscope. The chemical composition was measured by energy dispersive spectroscopy. It has been found that during annealing, massive precipitation of particles occures in the whole volume of the weld metal. These particles were identified as Laves phase.

Using the finite elements method with digital ANSYS programmable packet was made non-linear model of leg's prothesis receiver and stump of soft tissues . Made calculiation have shown that deformation ratio in stump and receiver contact declines when the lood increases. Therefore it is very important to evaluate not only the height of desabled persion but also his weight durind estimation the magnitude of deviations of leg prosthesis manufacturing and assembly.

This work, finalizing the master’s degree studies, is the self-dependent part of a collegial research project. The key issue of a project is to adopt the specific tests to the specific cultural environment of Lithuania. Two different tests have been evaluated. One of them, - teamwork test “Team Plus” has been made & tested by Germans under the Lithuanian conditions, & another test of organizational microclimate- has been created locally in Lithuania. Tests have been checked with the teams of leather processing enterprise. The organizational microclimate of a typical workgroups has been targeted as the main issues of the test. This research, together with the written report about it, is the main part of a master’s degree work. Total number of a 115 respondents has fulfilled the questionnaires. The total respondent’s number represents the 11 teams. Data has been analyzed, using the typical SPSS program. Both: qualitative & quantitative research methods have been used. The influence of demographic variables (meaning the sex) on to the teamwork expression has been evaluated in this research. According to the processed research data, the influence of the sex appeared to be nonessential. In conclusion, the next key issues can be stated. The indicators of an effective teamwork can be noticed only in the departments with a positive organizational microclimate. On the other hand, the ineffective teamwork markers are tightly connected with a negative organizational microclimate.
