Abstract:
The SU(3) octet states with baryon number B = 2, hexaquark dibaryons, are considered. We extend previous work and determine strong decay coupling constants sum rules with first-order SU(3) symmetry breaking for dibaryon octet into two ordinary baryon octets and into a baryon octet plus a baryon decuplet. Possibilities for the experimental observation of multibaryon and anti-multibaryon states are pointed out.

Abstract:
In this talk we report on the use of a chiral unitary approach for the interaction of the octets of meson and baryon and the octet of mesons with the decuplet of baryons. Two octets of Jπ=1/2- baryon states and a singlet are generated dynamically in the first case, resulting in the case of strangeness S=-1 in two poles of the scattering matrix close to the nominal Λ(1405) resonance. In the second case many resonances are also generated, among them an exotic baryon with S=1 corresponding to a ΔK resonance. We make suggestions of experiments which could show evidence for the existence of these states.

We investigate the Jp = 1/2- baryons in the octets based on flavor SU(3) symmetry. Since baryons with same quantum numbers can mix with each other, we consider the mixing between two octets before their mixing with the singlet. Most predicted decay widths are consistent with the experimental data, and meanwhile we predict two possible Ξ mass ranges of the two octets.

Abstract:
Within the framework of the generalized linear sigma model with glueballs recently proposed,[Formula: see text] we study the schematic spectroscopy of scalar and pseudoscalar mesons in the SU(3) flavor limit and explore their quark and glue contents. In this framework, for both scalars and pseudoscalars, the two octet physical states are admixtures of quark–antiquark and four-quark components, and the three singlet states contain quark–antiquark, four-quark and glue components. We identify the two scalar octets with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] and the two pseudoscalar octets with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. We show that, as expected, the light pseudoscalar octet is made dominantly of quark–antiquarks whereas the light scalar octet has a reversed substructure with a dominant four-quark component. The case of singlets is more complex due to surplus of states up to around 2 GeV. We consider all 35 permutations for identifying the three pseudoscalar singlets of our model with three of the seven experimental candidates. Our numerical simulation unambiguously identifies the lightest and the heaviest pseudoscalar singlets with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], respectively, and favors the identification of the middle singlet with either [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text] (or, to a lesser extent, with [Formula: see text]) and thereby allows a probe of their substructures. We then estimate the quark and glue components and find that the three pseudoscalar singlets (from lightest to heaviest) are mainly of quark–antiquark, four-quark and glue substructure, while the corresponding three scalar singlets (from lightest to heaviest) are of four-quark, quark–antiquark and glue contents. The masses of pure pseudoscalar and scalar glueballs are estimated around 2.0 and 1.6 GeV, respectively.

Abstract:
The light scalar nonets are studied using the QCD sum rules for the tetraquark operators. The operator product expansion for the correlators is calculated up to dimension 12 and this enables us to perform analyses retaining sufficient pole-dominance. To classify the light scalar nonets, we investigate the dependence on current quark mass and flavor dynamics. Especially, to examine the latter, we study separately SU(3) singlet and octet states, and show that the number of annihilation diagrams is largely responsible for their differences, which is also the case even after the inclusion of the finite quark mass. Our results support the tetraquark picture for isosinglets, while that for octets is not conclusive yet.

Abstract:
This paper performs integrated performance evaluation, including preamble detection in the Smart Body Area Networks (SmartBAN) physical layer (PHY). The system specifications for a PHY and media access control layer (MAC) in SmartBAN, which is a standard for medical and health care advanced by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), were issued in April 2015. In the PHY, the packet structure has a two-octet preamble, which is used, e.g., for timing synchronization. However, it is considered that the current preamble structure is not appropriate for handling medical and healthcare data that are required to have high reliability because of the too simple structure. Therefore, we propose adding a start frame delimiter (SFD) to correctly detect the header position. Computer simulations indicate that preambles with an SFD consisting of an orthogonal maximal length sequence (M-sequence) perform better than SmartBAN and similar approaches, particularly when transmitting over the IEEE model CM3. In addition, the packet error ratio (PER) and energy efficiency are evaluated in an integrated manner while taking preamble detection into consideration. The numerical results from computer simulations indicated the best performance with respect to PER was achieved using a preamble with orthogonal M-sequences of 4 octets. However, for energy efficiency, better results were obtained using a preamble with orthogonal M-sequences of 2 octets. Additionally, the theoretical analysis found the optimum length of the PHY packet to achieve the maximum energy efficiency with PER less than 10−2.

Abstract:
Teaching chemical bonding using the octet rule as an explanatory principle is problematic in many ways. The aim of this case study is to understand the learning and teaching of chemical bonding using a research-informed teaching model in which chemical bonding is introduced as an electrostatic phenomenon. The study posed two main questions: (i) how does a student's understanding of chemical bonding evolve from lower- to upper-secondary school when an electrostatic model of chemical bonding was used at the lower-secondary level? (ii) How does the teaching of octets/full shells at the upper-secondary level affect students’ understanding? The same students were interviewed after lower-secondary school and again during their first year at upper-secondary school. Their upper-level chemistry teachers were also interviewed. The interview data were analysed using the grounded theory method. The findings showed that the students’ earlier proper understanding of the electrostatic-interactions model at the lower-secondary level did not prevent the later development of less-canonical thinking. Teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of the explanatory principles of chemical bonding and how to use explanations in science education needs to be promoted in both pre-service teacher education and during in-service training.

Abstract:
This study examined the relationship of muscle-tendon unit (MTU) stiffness and explosive force production during voluntary and evoked contractions of the knee extensors. Thirty-four untrained participants performed a series of explosive voluntary and electrically evoked (octets (8 pulses, 300 Hz) via femoral nerve stimulation) isometric contractions. Maximum voluntary force (MVF) was assessed during maximum voluntary contractions. Explosive force production was assessed as the time taken, from force onset (0 N), to achieve specific levels of absolute (25–300 N) and relative force (5%–75% MVF) during the explosive contractions. Ultrasonic images of the vastus lateralis were recorded during 10-s ramp contractions to assess MTU stiffness, which was expressed in absolute (N·mm−1) and relative (to MVF and resting tendon-aponeurosis length) terms. Bivariate correlations suggested that absolute MTU stiffness was associated with voluntary explosive force (time to achieve 150–300 N: r = –0.35 to –0.54, P < 0.05). However, no relationships between stiffness and voluntary explosive force were observed when the influence of MVF was removed, either via partial correlations of absolute values (P ≥ 0.49) or considering relative values (P ≥ 0.14). Similarly, absolute MTU stiffness was related to explosive force during evoked octet contractions (r = –0.41 to –0.64, P < 0.05), but these correlations were no longer present when accounting for the influence of MVF (P ≥ 0.15). Therefore, once maximum strength was considered, MTU stiffness had no independent relationship with voluntary explosive force production or the evoked capacity for explosive force.

Abstract:
The diurnal variation of north east monsoon rainfall of coastal Tamil Nadu represented by four coastal stations Chennai Nungambakkam (Nbk), Chennai Meenambakkam (Mbk), Nagapattinam (Npt) and Pamban (Pbn) was studied in detail based on hourly rainfall data of rainy days only, for the period 1 Oct-31 Dec for the 47/48 year period 1969-2016/2017. Mean Octet rainfall and its anomaly were computed for the 8 octets 00-03,…., 21-24 hrs of the day and the anomaly was tested for statistical significance. Various analysis for the individual months of Oct, Nov, Dec and the entire period Oct-Dec were separately conducted. The basic technique of evolutionary histogram analysis supplemented by harmonic analysis of octet mean rainfall anomaly was used to detect the diurnal cycle signal. Two indices named as diurnal variation of rainfall index and coefficient of mean absolute octet rainfall anomaly representing the intensity of diurnal variation in dimensionless numbers were defined, computed and interpreted. The analysis based on the above techniques revealed that the diurnal signal which shows an early morning maximum and late afternoon minimum of octet rainfall is well defined in Oct, decreases in Nov and further decreases in Dec for all the 4 stations. Though the diurnal variation manifests a well defined pattern in Dec the signal is not statistically significant in most cases. For Nbk and Mbk there is a weak secondary peak of octet rainfall anomaly occurring in the forenoon and afternoon respectively in Oct and Dec suggesting the presence of semi-diurnal variation of rainfall. Stationwise, the diurnal signal is most well defined for each month/season in Pbn followed by Npt, Nbk and then Mbk. The physical causes behind the diurnal signal and its decrease as the north east monsoon season advances from Oct to Dec have been deliberated. The well known feature of nocturnal maximum of oceanic convection influencing a coastal station with maritime climate and the higher saturation at the lower levels of the upper atmosphere in the early morning hours have been advanced as some of the causes. For the much more complex feature of decrease of diurnal signal with the advancement of the season, the decrease of minimum surface temperature over coastal Tamil Nadu from Oct to Dec causing an early morning conceptual land breeze has been shown as one of the plausible causes based on analysis of temperature and wind. Scope for further work based on data from automatic weather stations, weather satellites and Doppler Weather Radars has been discussed.

Abstract:
The electronic structure of crystalline Li21Si5 is investigated by semiempirical MO (molecular orbital) calculations of the INDO (intermediate neglect of differential overlap) type in the framework of a finite cluster approach. The complex solid-state ensemble with 416 atoms per unit cell is divided into 16 cluster units M26 that form the three-dimensional structure. These M26 clusters have two different chemical compositions and act as formal donor and acceptor fragments, namely D = (Li20Si6) and A = (Li22Si4), having the formal net charges q(D ) = - 4 and q(A) = + 4. The electronic structures of these finite building units are rationalized by the semiempirical MO model. The one-electron energies of (Li20Si6)4- and (Li22Si4)4+ are derived on the basis of fragment interactions between the site sets (tetrahedral, octahedral, cube-octahedral) that build up the different M26 units. The canonical MO’s are transformed by means of the Edmiston-Ruedenberg localization procedure in order to come to a clear representation of the chemical bond in the two clusters. In (Li20Si6)4- a coincidence of the classical valence rules and the existence of nonclassical many-center bonds is found. (Li22Si4)4+ on the other side violates the counting schemes because of an excess of 2 electrons (electron octets at Si). The model calculations show however that the octet rule is strictly fulfilled in the Si subspace. The Li centers allow for the formation of an additional bonding cage orbital due to in-phase interactions between the Li 2s AO’s. This MO is occupied by the two excess electrons which are left after filling the valence orbitals associated to Si. The formation of such a one-electron level is not considered in classical models. The Li-Si interaction in Li21Si5 is of covalent nature and is comparable to the metal-nonmetal bonds in other lithium silicides. The Li-Li contacts are nonbonding in the framework of the Hartree-Fock approximation. The observed solid-state structure of the binary phase can be explained by intercluster interactions between the different donor and acceptor fragments.

The feminists of thequerelle[des fewines] were reacting to changes they seemed to have no control over, or to a Puritan revolution that served mainly to confirm their subjection to men. Lacking a vision of social movement to change events, their concern lay with consciousness. Most probably converted to Protestantism under the influence of Jeanne d'Albret, Queen of Navarre (to whose court she was attached after her marriage to Guyon de Gout, c. 1562), de Montenay composed a series of one hundred militant Christian octets in the mid-i56os and closely supervised their illustration by a gifted Lyonnais etcher, Pierre Woeiriot, who was also of the reformed persuasion.

Abstract:
Unit representation in the Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) specified in the IEEE 1451 standards is a binary sequence of 10 octets that encode the physical units as a product of the seven Système International base units, plus radian and steradian, each raised to a rational power in addition to an unsigned integer indicating the structure of the unit. While this representation seems trivial, manual compilation is prone to be erroneous and impractical, especially for complex units used in the hydroclimatology field. Hence, the development of a software application to automatically generate this vector represents a critical step to both reduce work load and automate unit conversion. Existing conversion packages for manipulating units fall short in many ways and also suffer from not integrating with a units controlled vocabulary. We developed HydroUnits (Python-based) to compute the vectorial representation for the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Sciences, Inc's Observations Data Model units for use in an IEEE 1451.0-based TEDS generator. In addition, the package has been extended to support dimensional analysis, unit reduction and unit conversion and contains provision to convert time series data between different unit systems.

Abstract:
This article on a genre of Tuscan Italian verbal art, the Contrasta, uses performance as a key to look at the connections between ethnic identity and place. The Contrasta takes its name, “contrast”, from its humorous representation of a verbal duel among entities, people or ideas. Structurally, it is formed by a series of chained Octets, in hendecasyllables. After an initial discussion of the current definitions of ethnic identity, the article is articulated in two parts. First, through the analysis of the “openings” of several Contrasti, 1 will show how a “repertoire” of ethnic identities becomes evident in the way the artists choose to represent themselves across contexts. These identities are connected to place. They are instead connected to towns, villages, valleys and mountains, monuments and historical events and legends. Tuscan ethnic identities emerge in the dialogue between the poets and their public. In the second part of the article, the in depth analysis of a Contrasta furnishes a key to understand how performance names and defines, but also contests, definitions of places and the associated identities. Performance brings to view the layers of complexity of ethnic identity, warning us against fixing and simplifying descriptions of it.

Abstract:
Background: Sarcina spp is a Gram-positive, coccoid microorganism which forms tetrads or octets, and is observed with a characteristic "bundle" arrangement. The most recognized species are Sarcina ventriculi and Sarcina maxima. It has been described as part of the normal microbiota in horses and cats, but it has also been linked to abomasal bloat in goats, lambs, and calves, although its causality has not been proven yet. Case description: This work presents the case of a 3-months-old female horse which died of generalized tympanism. Macroscopic findings showed mild cyanosis and abundant gas in the lumen of the stomach, small and large bowel. Microscopically, high numbers of Gram-positive microorganisms compatible with Sarcina spp. in the gastric lumen and on the surface of the small and large bowel were observed, along with mild inflammation. Conclusion: The severe tympanism was the only relevant lesion observed and could explain the death of the animal. Although it is not possible to determine a relationship between these lesions and Sarcina spp, it is interesting to highlight that the high amount of these bacteria could be associated with gas production and tympanism. It is important to continue investigating the role of Sarcina spp. in horses, and its possible link with tympanism.

Abstract:
SUMMARYThelohania solenopsae is a unique microsporidium with a life-cycle finely tuned to parasitizing fire ant colonies. Unlike other microsporidia of social hymenopterans, T. solenopsae infects all castes and stages of the host. Four distinctive spore types are produced: diplokaryotic spores, which develop only in brood (Type 1 DK spores); octets of octospores within sporophorous vesicles, the most prominent spore type in adults but never occurring in brood; Nosema-like diplokaryotic spores (Type 2 DK spores) developing in adults; and megaspores, which occur occasionally in larvae 4, pupae, and adults of all castes but predominantly infect gonads of alates and germinate in inseminated ovaries of queens. Type 2 DK spores function in autoinfection of adipocytes. Proliferation of diplokaryotic meronts in some cells is followed by karyogamy of diplokarya counterparts and meiosis, thereby switching the diplokaryotic sequence to octospore or megaspore development. Megaspores transmit the pathogen transovarially. From the egg to larvae 4, infection is inapparent and can be detected only by PCR. Type 1 DK spore and megaspore sequences are abruptly triggered in larvae 4, the key stage in intra-colony food distribution via trophallaxis, and presumably the central player in horizontal transmission of spores. Molecular, morphological, ultrastructural and life-cycle data indicate that T. solenopsae must be assigned to a new genus. We propose a new combination, Kneallhazia solenopsae.

Abstract:
AbstractBehavioral and electrophysiological studies of insects demonstrate both spectrally independent and chromatically dependent behaviors and interneurons. This account describes the neuroanatomical identification of two parallel retinotopic subsystems, one supplying descending channels to spectrally independent neck and flight motor circuits, the other supplying polychromatic channels to neuropils associated with leg motor circuits in the thoracic ganglia. In the compound eye, two classes of photoreceptors contribute to each of several thousand sampling units. High-sensitivity, chromatically uniform short-axon photoreceptors (R1-R6) supply the lamina's external plexiform layer and are presynaptic to L1, L2 efferents. These project in parallel with a second system of trichromatic long-axon receptors and the L3 efferent. Both pathways supply columns of the medulla, equal in number to ommatidia. Golgi and cobalt-silver impregnation demonstrates that neurons from the medulla diverge to two deeper regions, the lobula plate and lobula, the former a thin tectum of neuropil dorsal to the more substantial lobula. Layer relationships between medulla neurons and their afferent supply suggest that the lobula plate and lobula are each supplied by one or the other, but not both, of the two parallel subsystems. Independence of the two parallel pathways is suggested by ablation of the photoreceptor layer leading to selective degeneration of the motion-sensitive lobula plate neuropil. In addition, octets of small-field neurons associated with the R1-R6/L1, L2 pathway give rise to synaptic complexes with motion-sensitive neurons of the lobula plate. A variety of behavioral and electrophysiological studies provide supporting evidence that certain insects possess parallel visual pathways comparable to the magnocellular and parvocellular subsystems of primates.

Abstract:
Organic cation transporters (OCTs) and novel organic cation transporters (OCTNs) are responsible for drug delivery in the intestine and kidney; in the lung, OCTs mediate inhaled drugs’ transport, although their physiological role in airways remains poorly understood. The studies addressing OCTs/OCTNs in human airways were mostly performed in immortal or transformed cell lines; here, we studied OCTs in EpiAirway™, a recently developed in vitro model of normal bronchial epithelium. Calu-3 monolayers were used for comparison. The activity of OCTs was evaluated by measuring the uptake of 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+) at the apical and basolateral side of monolayers and protein expression through Western Blot analysis. OCTs and OCTNs expression, along with that of Amino acid Transporter B0,+ (ATB0,+)transporter, was determined by measuring the number of mRNA molecules through quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR). The interaction of the transporters with bronchodilators was also assessed. Results highlight significant differences between Calu-3 cells and EpiAirway™, since, in the latter, OCTs are active only on the basolateral membrane where they interact with the bronchodilator ipratropium. No activity of OCTs is detectable at the apical side; there, the most abundant carrier is, instead, SLC6A14/ATB0,+, that can thus be potentially listed among organic cation transporters responsible for drug delivery in the lung.

Abstract:
The biosynthetic pathway from linoleic acid to 1-octen-3-ol in Agaricus bisporus has long been established, in which linoleic acid is converted to 10-hydroperoxide (10-HPOD) by deoxygenation, and 10-HPOD is subsequently cleaved to yield 1-octene-3-ol and 10-oxodecanoic acid. However, the corresponding enzymes have not been identified and cloned. In the present study, four putative genes involved in oxylipid biosynthesis, including one lipoxygenase gene named AbLOX, two linoleate diol synthase genes named AbLDS1 and AbLDS2, and one hydroperoxide lyase gene named AbHPL were retrieved from the A. bisporus genome by a homology search and cloned and expressed prokaryotically. AbLOX, AbLDS1, and AbLDS2 all exhibited fatty acid dioxygenase activity, catalyzing the conversion of linoleic acid to generate hydroperoxide, and AbHPL showed a cleaving hydroperoxide activity, as was determined by the KI-starch method. AbLOX and AbHPL catalyzed linoleic acid to 1-octen-3-ol with an optimum temperature of 35 °C and an optimum pH of 7.2, whereas AbLDS1, AbLDS2, and AbHPL catalyzed linoleic acid without 1-octen-3-ol. Reduced AbLOX expression in antisense AbLOX transformants was correlated with a decrease in the yield of 1-octen-3-ol. AbLOX and AbHPL were highly homologous to the sesquiterpene synthase Cop4 of Coprinus cinerea and the yeast sterol C-22 desaturase, respectively. These results reveal that the enzymes for the oxidative cleavage of linoleic acid to synthesize 1-octen-3-ol in A. bisporus are the multifunctional fatty acid dioxygenase AbLOX and hydroperoxide lyase AbHPL.

Abstract:
Air sampling using Tenax, a selective solid absorbent, was performed from spawning to pinning over the duration of four mushroom crops of Agaricus bisporus (Lange) Imbach (Fungi; Agricaceae). The contents of the air sampling tubes were thermally desorbed directly to a gas chromatograph-mass selective detector. In two crops 3-octanone and 1-octen3-ol were detected 12 to 13 days after spawning. These two compounds were also detected after compost was added at casing (CAC) and the ketone was present in large quantities. Air sampling of a 10-g sample of spawned compost vs. unspawned compost confirmed that these two compounds were of fungal origin. Bags of spawned compost were used to determine the effects of a CAC layer, a soybean supplement, and Spawn Mate on the volatiles released by the spawned compost. The CAC layer and the soybean supplement selectively absorbed 1-octen-3-ol and, to a lesser extent, 3-octanone. The addition of Spawn Mate to the compost at spawning did not alter the quantity or ratio of 3-octanone to 1-octen-3-ol released by the spawned compost.

Abstract:
Based on the Hashin–Shtrikman variational principle, novel bounds on the effective shear moduli of a two-phase periodic composite are derived. The composite constituents are assumed to be isotropic, while the microstructure is assumed to exhibit cubic symmetry. A solution of the subsidiary boundary value problem is expressed as a double contraction of a fourth-order cubic tensor with the applied macroscopic strain. The bounds for cubic shear moduli are new, while the bounds for the bulk modulus are equal to the classical ones. The new bounds are verified for composites with the cubic, frame, octet and cubic + octet structures. It is shown that they are nearly attained for the cubic, octet and cubic + octet structures.

Abstract:
Hierarchical lattices are structures composed of self-similar or dissimilar architected metamaterials that span multiple length scales. Hierarchical lattices have superior and tunable properties when compared to conventional lattices, and thus, open the door for a wide range of material property manipulation and optimization. Using finite element analysis, we investigate the energy absorption capabilities of 3D hierarchical lattices for various unit cells under low strain rates and loads. In this study, we use fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing to fabricate a dog bone specimen and extract the mechanical properties of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) 85A with a hundred percent infill printed along the direction of tensile loading. With the numerical results, we observed that the energy absorption performance of the octet lattice can be enhanced four to five times by introducing a hierarchy in the structure. Conventional energy absorption structures such as foams and lattices have demonstrated their effectiveness and strengths; this research aims at expanding the design domain of energy absorption structures by exploiting 3D hierarchical lattices. The result of introducing a hierarchy to a lattice on the energy absorption performance is investigated by varying the hierarchical order from a first-order octet to a second-order octet. In addition, the effect of relative density on the energy absorption is isolated by creating a comparison between a first-order octet lattice with an equivalent relative density as a second-order octet lattice. The compression behaviors for the second order octet, dodecahedron, and truncated octahedron are studied. The effect of changing the cross-sectional geometry of the lattice members with respect to the energy absorption performance is investigated. Changing the orientation of the second-order cells from 0 to 45 degrees has a considerable impact on the force–displacement curve, providing a 20% increase in energy absorption for the second-order octet. Analytical solutions of the effective elasticity modulus for the first- and second-order octet lattices are compared to validate the simulations. The findings of this paper and the provided understanding will aid future works in lattice design optimization for energy absorption.

Abstract:
The current limits for fourth generation quarks allows to expect their mass of the order of 500 GeV. In this mass region for quark–antiquark pair the additional Yukawa-type attraction due to Higgs mechanism is expected to emerge. This Higgs-induced attraction greatly exceeds strong interaction between quarks and leads to the formation of bound states in both color-octet S(8) and singlet S(1) states. In the key of recent works on significance of color-octet channel for production of color-singlet state of fourth generation [Formula: see text] we calculated the binding energies for both octet and singlet states. Such an attraction localizes quarks in extremely small area. Hence, color-octet pair of fourth generation quarks can form the "nucleus" and, together with color neutralizing light particle that is captured by strong interaction in orbit around the nucleus, create particle with structure similar to Deuterium.

Abstract:
Based on IS model, the cross-sections of associated ηc and γ diffractive production in [Formula: see text] collision are calculated. Under the framework of NRQCD factorization formalism for quarkonia production, the dominant contribution to associated ηc and γ production comes from color octet [Formula: see text] subprocess, the color octet matrix element of [Formula: see text] is related to that of [Formula: see text] of J/ψ by the heavy quark spin symmetry. Because the value of color octet matrix element of [Formula: see text] of J/ψ is determined by the large PTJ/ψ production data, the prediction of ηc and γ is more reliable. The ratio of diffractive to inclusive cross-sections is independent of the values of color octet matrix elements, which is sensitive to the gluon factor of the Pomeron and renormalized Pomeron flux factors. So experimental measurement of this ratio can give us more information of the nature of Pomeron and test the assumption of diffractive hard scattering factorization.

Non-coking stable alkaline earth metal (M = Mg, Sr, and Ba) modified Ga-NaY catalysts were prepared by ionic-exchange and tested in oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of n-octane using air as the source of oxygen. The role of the alkaline earth metals in NaY was to poison the acid sites while enhancing the basic sites responsible for ODH. The exception was the calcium modified NaY, which was more acidic than the parent NaY, coking and unstable under the ODH conditions used in this study. The role of gallium was to enhance the dehydrogenation pathway and improve the stability of NaY. The sequence of increasing selectivity to octenes followed the order: CaGa-NaY < Ga-NaY< MgGa-NaY < SrGa-NaY < BaGa-NaY. The highest octene selectivity obtained was 37% at iso-conversion of 6 ± 1% when BaGa-NaY was used at a temperature of 450 °C. The activity of the catalysts was directly proportional to the reducibility of the catalysts, which is in agreement with expectations.

Abstract Lattice sandwich beams are often subjected to vibrations when they are used. The aim of this study was to explore the vibration characteristics of the octet-truss lattice core sandwich beam by translating discrete octet-truss core to the continuous homogenization material. The natural frequencies of which are obtained by theoretical calculation and numerical simulation. The theoretical solutions are in good agreement with the numerical results. It demonstrates that the theoretical approach is effective to compute the natural frequency. Furthermore, the influences of truss member radius and thin sheets ply on the natural frequencies are also discussed. The outcomes indicate that the octet-truss lattice core sandwich beam’s natural frequencies are controlled via selecting the appropriate truss member radius and the face sheets thickness.

Abstract:
In tissue engineering, scaffolds can be obtained by means of 3D printing. Different structures are used in order to reduce the stiffness of the solid material. The present article analyzes the mechanical behavior of octet-truss microstructures. Three different octet structures with strut radii of 0.4, 0.5, and 0.6 mm were studied. The theoretical relative densities corresponding to these structures were 34.7%, 48.3%, and 61.8%, respectively. Two different values for the ratio of height (H) to width (W) were considered, H/W = 2 and H/W = 4. Several specimens of each structure were printed, which had the shape of a square base prism. Compression tests were performed and the elasticity modulus (E) of the octet-truss lattice-structured material was determined, both, experimentally and by means of Finite Element Methods (FEM). The greater the strut radius, the higher the modulus of elasticity and the compressive strength. Better agreement was found between the experimental and the simulated modulus of elasticity results for H/W = 4 than for H/W = 2. The octet-truss lattice can be considered to be a promising structure for printing in the field of tissue engineering.
