Full textThis thesis is born of a triple interest : - an interest in Romance linguistics and dialectology : I propose to ascribe the fragmentation of Occitan in the Renaissance to an abandonment, appearing gradual when considering Occitania from North to South, of enclisis. - An interest in psychoanalysis : in the structure and morphology of imperatives, in the fact that an unmarked verbal form is necessarily related to an address and that its descriptive value depends on that relation, I see evidence that language functions in an indicial as well as in a symbolic way (and I give a particular meaning to Chomsky's Extended Projection Principle). - An interest in intonation facts : in the possibility of asserting the juxtaposition they got up, it was six conjointly, of giving it the meaning " when they got up, it was six " or on the contrary " they got up, since it was six " by focusing the second and the first clause - respectively, I recognize a discursive - temporal - dimension to sentences. According to the first eventuality, its real context - its point of insertion within a particular chain of events - is being represented in the asserted clause (cf. , for a relation of strict contiguity rather than superposition in the narrative sequence, they got up, no one reacted). In the second case, the adjunct clause, as a subsequent term, cannot coincide with the immediate context : its link with the main clause is presupposed in an absolute way, is representative of causality. A thorough analysis of the prosodic structuring of sentences - an analysis totally independent of punctuation - bears testimony as well to their inscription in time. The constraints known by the dislocation of temporal complements show that these latter are related to global sequences rather than to constituents. Dislocation also leads to the parallel definition of two ways of identifying ordinary references : one, corresponding to the logic of sets, bound to government (and varying minimally across tongues, according to enclisis in particular), the other, binary, oppositional, characterizing partitives, or even personal pronouns and vocatives. All these views offering a frame, eventually, for a description of relative clauses

Full textFixed expressions are frequently used in the media, in the literature and in daily conversations. Thus, they often perplex learners of a new language, but also translators. Moreover, existing machine translation systems give frustrating results for fixed expression entries, especially when it comes to translating french fixed expressions into chinese. Would it be possible to create a machine translation system that is able to recognize the right sense of a french fixed expression and then to translate it into chinese in an intelligible way ? After studying fixed expressions, (human) translation and machine translation, we find out the principal problems that are inherents in the related areas : the polysemic nature of french fixed expressions ; the principle of fidelity in translation: fidelity to the sense ; the recognization of the right sense of a french fixed expression, and the output of an intelligible chinese translation - by a machine : the formalization of all linguistic and translating respects is therefore indispensable. These problems show that the sense is the essential element in the related areas, and that the sense underlies concrete forms. The sense of a fixed expression may not only be determined by the form that the expression takes, but also be outlined by its co-textes. Based on these findings, We suggest the canonical approach on the bassis of semantic and formal respects of french fixed expressions and their chinese translations. With this approach, We establish the trace system (canonical translation of expressions) which is able to translate correctly a french fixed expression into chinese
Kuroda, Kyoko. "Traduction automatique : divergences de traduction entre le japonais et le français." Besançon, 2006. http://www.theses.fr/2006BESA1004.
Full textSentences obtained by translation show varied and important syntactic discrepancies. This is true especially when the sentences are in distant languages such as Japanese and French. This work described here explores the issue of translation divergence of these particular languages in order to apply the results of this investigation to our transfer system. With this intention we are interested in the discrepancy observed at the level of verbal argument structures. We put special focus on changes of lexical category, changes of voice, diversification of the actancial distribution and various forms of actualized predicate. These disparities often are correlated with each other and have common origins. For example they can be explained by what Pottier calls ‘event statutes' of the predicate. That is, according to whether the event to be expressed is one of state or evolution, the way of representing the event is different. Furthermore, this differentiation largely depends on the lexicon of each language and also on the syntactico-semantic constraints which each language imposes on its lexicon. We have thus endeavored to extract factors which, on the one hand, are correlated between the diverging facts and, on the other hand, are common to our two languages. We have included these factors in the lexical description, in considering that they thus enable the transfer system to apply operations which neutralize the disparity. Having formalized these lexical descriptions which are based on unification grammar, we show how the transfer system uses the common factors in order to neutralize the discrepancy

Full textThe object of our study is to deal with the application of the "comparative stylistics" with regard to the translation of french into korean and vice versa. The point is to perceive the difficulties which arise out of practive, to contemplate their solution and to find finally the rules for a correct translation. The "comparative stylistics" used by vinay et darbelnet to solve the translational problemes is of great help and can be applied for translating french into korean and vice versa. This methode proposes translation by blocs, by units. We have chosen as unit of translation, the french causal conjunction as well as "parce que", "car", "puisque" and their korean counterparts. We have compazred the usage of these units with extracts from textes : the text original and its version. We have found out that essentially "parce que" corresponds to "ki ttaemune" and "eoseo", "puisque" to "nikka" and "car" to "eoseo", all of these being conjunctive endings. Eventually, we have found out that the methode of "comparative stylistics" is suitable for the translation from french to korean and vice versa. The rules and methodes for a good translation apply to all languages. The difficulties arising out of the specificities of certain languages can easily be resolved through the use of elements contrived by the methode of "comparative stylistics"

Full textArabic language is morphologically poorer in determiners than French. This could pose some translation problems. The objective of this work is thus to help translators and those who are involved in teaching/learning translation to overcome these difficulties. Based on a corpus made of a French text and its translation into Arabic, this contrastive study compares the determination systems of French and Arabic. It studies French determiners and their equivalents in Arabic, comments them and formulates generalities. In conclusion, it emphasizes the importance of complete and incomplete actualization in the translation of the French article. It plays a key role in translating noun phrase (article + noun). If the article is definite for instance, that does not necessarily mean that we should translate in Arabic by a definite noun. This research presents also a number of equivalents in Arabic of French indefinite determiners. Finally, it opens many perspectives for future research: actualization, definites, indefinites and other

Full textThis thesis deals with the + processing of spatial prepositions in a french-german, german- french unification-based machine translation system ;. It is divided into two volumes : the first one deals with theoritical concerns and first with the study of prepositions in four fields : morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics, and presents the current studies on computer-oriented processing of spatial localization. It is followed by a presentation of already existing models: case grammar and unification grammars, and the computer implementation in which they are used. It ends with a presentation of the cat2-system and of the way the translation program functions. The second volume corresponds to the pratical part of our work and presents organigrams used for the translation program we have created. It also includes french and german morphological dictionaries, french and german semantical dictionaries, along with the computer-program and the different test-examples
Zhao, He Ping. "Le principe de la fidélité en traduction (de la validité de la théorie interprétative pour la traduction chinois-français et français-chinois)." Paris 3, 1989. http://www.theses.fr/1990PA030039.
Full textThis thesis, based upon the interpretative theory, deals with the principle of fidelity in translation between chinese and french as well as several other aspects relating to the fidelity, such as clarty, liberty and servility. The operation of translation does not take place at the level of the language, but rather at the level of the speech where the language and the non-linguistic factors (the speaking person, the perceiving person, the place, the timing and the circumstances of the communication) interplay. The meaning of a word or a sentence is not the object of the translation. The translator transmits the sense of a text to another text, a sense which is concrete and individual while the meaning is abstract and collective. Therefore, the principle of fidelity applys to the sense as well as to the tone of the talking person (or writing person), to his language level, to the logic of his speech and to what he wishes to express. The clarity is definied with regard to the reader. In order to be faithful, the translator should be free with regard to the original language while subservient to the target language

Full textThis thesis intends to show that translation errors are in certain cases directly induced by ambiguities in the source language text. Such ambiguities lead to interpreting the text differently from the author's intention, and therefore produce a partially inaccurate translation. By working on a corpus of technical texts written in German, Claire Allignol has been able to propose a detailed typology of the writing deficiencies in German which can result in misunderstandings of the original text and generate translation errors. Lexical anomalies are the most common source of difficulty. With regard to the sentence and the texts, phrases in the passive mood and problems of logic in the presentation of information are the two main causes of possible misunderstanding of the message by the translator. C. Allignol offers translators her own rigorous method for translating technical texts, based on documentary research and a critical analysis of the text which includes her corpus study results. She also provides guidelines for technical writers so that their texts be better understood by the translators and therefore better translated
