Abstract:
This paper focuses on Mass Observation (MO)’s morale work, commissioned by the British Government over the period 1939–41. It examines the ways in which MO’s earlier collecting practices were recomposed through its research into civilian morale, and linked up with national centres of calculation, in particular the Ministry of Information (MoI). We explore the associations through which civilian morale was established, simultaneously, as an autonomous object of knowledge and as a particular field of intervention. As an object of knowledge, morale posited the existence of a dynamic affective ‘atmosphere’ associated with collective everyday life, which could be calibrated through various social scientific methods. As a particular field of intervention, technicians of morale postulated that this atmosphere might be regulated through various policy instruments. This paper traces the ways in which MO practices were implicated along these two axes in the emergence of civilian morale as a domain warranting the state’s ‘constant attention and supervision’.

Abstract:
One of the most difficult concepts in both contemporary and academic accounts of the Second World War is that of civilian morale. This paper uses evidence from the Mass-Observation Archive to argue that understanding fluctuations in morale can only be understood through an exploration of working-class culture during the 1930s and 1940s. The paper examines difficulties of defining ‘morale’ and goes on to argue that the pattern of bombing in urban centres and the continuity of working-class institutions helped shape and maintain morale during the critical period of 1940–41

Abstract:
This scholarly article critically evaluates the impact of technology, with a particular focus on online education, on students' morals and character. The research is designed to understand how online education, due to technological development, affects students' morals and character and to seek strategies to strengthen these aspects. The research methodology involved a comprehensive literature review, with data collected from various journals and the author's observation of the online education phenomenon. The results show that online education brings new challenges for students, including teachers' need for more direct guidance and the monotony of learning methods. This has an impact on the decline of students' morale and character. This article provides new insights into how technology affects students' morale and character, particularly online education. The study also highlights the importance of character and ethics education in the current education system and how online education can be customised to strengthen these aspects. In modern education, which is increasingly influenced by technology, this study contributes to understanding the challenges and opportunities posed by online education. As such, this article serves as a valuable resource for educators, researchers, and policymakers who seek to maximise the potential of online education while minimising its negative impact on students' morals and character

Abstract:
AbstractThis article examines the memory of the Great War and the underexplored topic of morale during the Phoney War, and contributes to, and connects, their historiographies. Analysis of previously unexamined Mass Observation (MO) material confirms and qualifies some of the concerns about morale that MO expressed at the time. It also reveals that many Britons looked backwards to the Great War during the Phoney War, whether they had lived through the Great War or not, and their memories and understandings of the Great War informed their attitudes to the Second World War. Memories of wartime trauma were just one facet of the varied legacy of the Great War that Britons drew upon. Importantly, Britons of different ages drew upon post-war representations and personal and vicarious experiences to different extents, but those who were able to typically ascribed influence to personal rather than cultural memories of the Great War. This complicates the assumption that the latter determined Britons’ responses to the outbreak of the Second World War and contributes to understandings of both the reception and influence of cultural representations of the Great War, and the place of the Great War in the subjective worlds of Britons during the Second World War.

Abstract:
This literature review explores the implications of utilizing the Classroom Observation Tool (COT) and Results-Based Performance Management System (RPMS) on teaching performance among educators in public elementary schools. The COT serves as a structured instrument for assessing classroom activities, while the RPMS provides a framework for evaluating teacher performance based on professional standards. Through a comprehensive analysis of existing research and policy documents, this review examines the impact of these systems on teaching effectiveness and student outcomes. Research indicates that the systematic use of the COT allows educators to identify areas of strength and growth in their teaching practice, leading to targeted professional development interventions. Additionally, the integration of the RPMS ensures alignment between teacher assessments and professional standards, promoting accountability and continuous improvement in teaching practice. Studies have shown that educators who participate in regular classroom observations and performance evaluations experience enhanced job satisfaction and morale, leading to greater retention and commitment to their profession. Moreover, the implementation of these systems has been associated with improvements in student learning outcomes, as teachers are better equipped to meet the diverse needs of their students. However, challenges such as resource constraints and resistance to change may hinder the effective implementation of these systems. Moving forward, further research is needed to explore the long-term impact of the COT and RPMS on teaching performance and student achievement. Overall, this literature review highlights the importance of incorporating systematic observation and performance evaluation mechanisms into teacher professional development initiatives to promote continuous improvement in teaching practice and enhance student learning outcomes in public elementary schools.

Abstract:
Getting the citizens to comply with tax payment is a herculean task for policy makers in developing economics like Nigeria. Therefore, the researchers investigated tax compliance and economic growth: Moderating effect of tax morale. The quantitative research design adopted was found to be appropriate for the quantitative research model that underpins the study at hand. Also, descriptive statistics was used to explain the study’s variables. The secondary data were sourced from the Statistical Bulletin of CBN and the National Bureau of Statistics (2022). A regression analysis was adopted to analyze the data so collected. Moreover, the panel regression is a veritable for re-occurring observation of the same variable for several times or periods. While the control variables are the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the Human Development Index (HDI), the components of tax compliance are proxied as logged revenue and as the independent variable. Moreover, tests for robustness were run, including simple regression, to validate the result's dependability while also taking into account all of the assumptions related to regression. Findings revealed that there is a negative significant effect of tax compliance (TAXCOMPL) on economic growth (HDI) of Nigeria, there is a positive significant impact of tax compliance (TAXCOMPL) on economic growth (RGDP) of Nigeria, also, there is a significant weak moderating effect of tax morale on tax compliance and Nigeria's economic growth. In the light of the above, the researcher made the following suggestions; government should provide essential services to the people to enhance voluntary tax compliance. To motivate tax payers, policy makers should translate taxes collected into human capital development to boost economic growth.
