Abstract:
During any synchromesh development programme, reliable methods for evaluating and assessing the gear-shift quality are necessary. In order to overcome the reliance on a trained driver and associated subjective judgement, methods have been investigated to describe the gear-shift characteristics using objective, rather than subjective measures This paper describes the measurement and calculation of objective measures that relate to perceived shift quality. Examples are given on the use of these measures to evaluate the effect of production variability on shift quality, and to allow comparisons of shift quality to be made between competitive vehicles

Abstract:
In the context of criminal law, proof is the core of criminal proceedings because what is sought in criminal law is material truth. Basically, this aspect of proof has actually begun at the stage of criminal investigation. The act of investigation and investigation will be carried out immediately in the event of a criminal offense, the existence of a criminal offense can be known by the officer, with reports, complaints, caught red-handed, or known directly by the officer. So, before an act of investigation is carried out, an investigation is carried out by an investigating official, with the intention and purpose of finding and finding an event that is investigated a criminal event or not, if the investigation results as a criminal event, an investigation can be carried out. or certain civil servants who are authorized to carry out investigations, before the investigator conducts investigations such as making arrests, calling, searching, detaining, confiscating, the investigator must notify the public prosecutor so that the prosecutor can follow his investigation from the beginning, and if deemed necessary to give instructions in order to perfect the investigation. In the murder case with the defendant Andro and Benges, the witnesses presented by the Public Prosecutors in the trial were almost all investigators who examined this case. If only an investigator is present in proving someone guilty or not in a criminal case, of course the investigator will justify what he has done so that his statement becomes not objective.

Abstract:
The problem of counteraction to investigation has recently gained particular topicality. . This is due to the fact that the activities of organized criminality are gaining and larger range, an essential reason of which, in its turn, are the processes of the personnel corruptibility of the power structures and law enforcement institutions. The basis of the people’s lifestyle of the adherent to the criminal environment is to put obstacles in the way of law enforcement institutions in general; and during their lifetime, because of specific mentality, criminals always and willingly put into practice various forms and methods of counteractions. As investigative practice shows, counteraction to investigation may go on during the lifetime of the counteraction performer; it may begin also in the preparation phase of a crime, or may begin or continue during investigation, trial, and even during the time of serving sentence. The purpose of this study is to clarify the essence of the counteraction concept to investigation. As a result of the study and based on the theoretical knowledge, the most important conclusion has been drawn, namely: the counteraction to investigation is an action or inaction executed on premeditated purpose to hinder or even to stop the full, objective and comprehensive clarification of the offense circumstances by the investigating authorities and courts. In the course of the study, the problems were also identified, and the means and methods of overcoming the counteraction to investigation were offered. The prevention of counteraction to investigations, identification of its motives, forecasting of counteraction forms and methods of its implementation both – at the initial period of the investigation and during the implementation of investigation activities are a part of the necessary provisions for successful neutralization of counteraction, for unmasking of counteraction performers’ activities. It is also a compulsory provision for objective, detailed and complete clarifications of all circumstances of offence, providing in this way a fair punishment for guilty persons. The application of countermeasures requires an understanding of the methods and techniques used by law enforcement authorities in investigation of criminal networks. Insufficient prevention and overcoming of counteractions to investigations is one of the reasons of qualitative and quantitative aggravation of the performance parameters of law enforcement authorities.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThis paper adds data to help establish fidelity criteria to accompany the simulator motion system diagnostic test specified by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. Twelve airline transport pilots flew three tasks in the NASA Vertical Motion Simulator under four different motion conditions. The experiment used three different hexapod motion configurations, each with a different trade-off between motion filter gain and break frequency, and one large motion configuration that utilised as much of the simulator's motion space as possible. The motion condition significantly affected (1) pilot motion fidelity ratings, and sink rate and lateral deviation at touchdown for the approach and landing task, (2) pilot motion fidelity ratings, roll deviations, maximum pitch rate, and number of stick shaker activations in the stall task, and (3) heading deviation after an engine failure in the take-off task. Significant differences in pilot-vehicle performance were used to define initial objective motion cueing criteria boundaries. These initial fidelity boundaries show promise but need refinement.

Abstract:
Railroad, aviation, and shipping transport accidents tend to be handled as organizational incidents. The objective of accident investigation is to effectively decrease and prevent accident recurrence, rather than to ascribe blame to any person. Such investigations clarify technological, system-based, and managerial shortcomings. By eliminating factors that cause accidents, we may be able to prevent similar recurrences. In this article, we first review the global status of accident, then, look at current situations and issues as they apply to accident investigation in Japan.

Full text
Abstract:
Background: This research sought to understand the perspective of mineworkers regarding incident investigations, with the objective of identifying incident investigations improvement opportunities. First, through interviews, the research sought to identify the causal factors considered during investigations and the reasons for conducting investigations in the Ghanaian mining industry. Secondly, through questionnaire surveys, the study focused on understanding the extent to which a large sample of mineworkers considered the identified causal factors and investigation reasons relevant and applicable in their mine. Method: Data were collected from 41 participants through interviews and 659 respondents through surveys, and the data were analyzed through thematic, content, and statistical analyses, including descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and correlation analysis. Result: The interviews led to the identification of five and nine categories of incident causal factors and reasons for investigating incidents, respectively. The results suggested a focus on workers’ unsafe acts as the main incident causal factor and identifying the person who caused the incident as one of the major reasons for investigating incidents, as these two factors where the modal choice from both the interviews and survey across all five mines. The results further showed that concerning the accident causal factors and the reasons for investigating incidents, no significant difference was observed between the perspectives of mineworkers involved in investigations and mineworkers with no investigation responsibilities. Conclusion: It can be concluded from the results that talking to ordinary mineworkers does not generate innovative safety responses in this context, as the workers believe whatever they are taught, without critiquing it. Again, the focus on workers’ behavior as an accident causal factor is an indication of single-loop learning in contrast to double-loop learning, and its implication as well as opportunities to strengthen incident investigation focusing on improving organizational safety have been discussed.

Abstract:
The article discusses the most recent developments in Australia’s anti-dumping practice on the determination of ‘material injury’ and ‘causation’. It argues that while Australia’s anti-dumping investigating authority has failed to conduct assessment of ‘injury-causation’ adequately and objectively in past investigations, in two recent investigations the authority seems to have become more objective and comprehensive in its ‘injurycausation’ determinations. The developments suggest that the Australian authority has started moving towards a thorough and unbiased analysis of ‘injury-causation’ in accordance with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. They also suggest that active and full participation in ‘injurycausation’ defence in an investigation is crucial for exporters and other parties with shared interest to increase their odds of success.

Abstract:
Objective: Investigation of the frequency of symptomatic venous thromboembolic disease 3 months after negative results of colour duplex ultrasound investigation of the lower extremities in patients with suspected deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Design: Retrospective analyses of consecutive ultrasound investigations and a survey in patients with normal findings. Setting: Patients were investigated at two clinical vascular laboratories in teaching hospitals. Main outcome measures: Objective verification of symptomatic venous thromboembolism during 3 months follow-up by a questionnaire and retrospective analyses of diagnostic procedures for venous thromboembolism. Results: Eighty-seven per cent answered a questionnaire and the majority had temporary symptoms which were explained by other diagnoses than DVT. In one patient a DVT was phlebographically verified 1 week after the ultrasonographic investigation, which showed only superficial thrombophlebitis. Conclusion: Patients with suspected DVT and a negative colour duplex investigation of the deep veins are unlikely to develop clinically important venous thromboembolic disease within 3 months.

Abstract:
Background: Nigeria has an infertility rate of 4% to 48.1%. This health condition is the most frequently investigated in radiology departments across the country. Although ultrasound is used as first line investigation, its limited sensitivity to tubal patency has made hysterosalpingography (HSG), despite its radiation risks, as the procedure of choice. Objective: To determine the throughput of all special investigations in the study locations with a view to ascertaining if the use of hysterosalpingography is declining or flourishing. Methods: A retrospective extraction of data about special investigations from physical archives in the radiology department of two tertiary hospitals. Concluded special investigations between 2012 – 2014 and 2017 – 2019 were enlisted. The physical film jackets in both centers were consecutively scrutinized and the type and date of special investigation was noted. Results: A total of one hundred and forty-eight thousand, three hundred and twenty-two (148,322) patients aged 2 days to 95 years (mean: 34.85 ± 16.61 years) passed through the radiology departments between 2012 – 2014, and 2017 – 2019. Those for special radiological investigations numbered 4,806 (3.24 %). Hysterosalpingography (n = 2.148; 44.7%) and lateral invertogram (n = 39; 0.8%) were the special investigations with the highest and least throughputs, respectively. There were five specific HSG findings and fibroid had the highest frequency (n = 683; 31.80%). Conclusions: Hysterosalpingography is the most common special radiological procedure for investigating infertility by radiographers and radiologists in Nigeria.

Abstract:
Objective Unilateral vestibular weakness has considerable potential etiologies. One source is a vestibular schwannoma. This article evaluates, in the absence of other symptoms and signs, if unilateral vestibular weakness is an analogue to asymmetric sensorineural hearing loss and serves as an indication for lateral skull base imaging. Study Design Retrospective chart review. Setting Academic tertiary center. Subjects and Methods All patients undergoing caloric assessment between January 1, 2012, and June 30, 2018, were investigated. Patients with unilateral vestibular weakness (a left-right difference >25% on electronystagmography) were included in the study. A provincial encompassing image library was surveyed for potential adequate imaging (computed tomography internal auditory canal infused, magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] brain, MRI internal auditory canal) of the target population within the preceding 5 years. Presence/absence of vestibular schwannoma on imaging was determined. Results Of the 3531 electronystagmography reports reviewed during the period, 864 patients were identified with unilateral vestibular weakness. Of these, 542 had sufficient imaging, and 14 vestibular schwannomas were identified. Only 1 individual had a vestibular weakness in isolation, while the remaining 13 patients also suffered from documented sensorineural hearing loss that would have mandated MRI scanning. Conclusion The results of our study suggest that, in isolation, vestibular weakness is an insufficient indicator for lateral skull base imaging.

Abstract:
Orthopaedic bone drilling attacks the surrounded bone cells and tissues in terms of thermal and mechanical in such a way that these cells can get damaged permanently. This damage to the surrounding of drill point upsurges the rehabilitation time of injury and in some cases leads to the failure of the bone screw joint. This study is based on the optimization of multiple response characteristics to minimize the damage during the bone drilling. All real-life problems, including bone drilling, require the multiple response optimization for getting a combined optimization result for all countable response characteristics. The Taguchi optimization technique is observed as a highly recommended tool for single response optimization. This article uses the Taguchi technique with little modification of membership function that will help to convert the multiple response characteristics into single response and further optimize it as a single function of performance. Rotational speed, feed rate of tool at three different levels with three different kinds of drilling tools are the drilling parameters selected for the study. The objective of this study is to minimize the surface roughness and thrust force simultaneously. Analysis of variance helps to find the percentage contribution and significance of each parameter on the performance.

Abstract:
Pentamode metamaterial (PM) has enormous application potential in the design of lightweight bodies with superior vibration and noise-reduction performance. To offer systematic insights into the investigation of PMs, this paper studies the various effects (i.e., unit cell arrangement, material, and geometry) on bandgap properties through the finite element method (FEM). With regards to the influences of unit cell arrangements on bandgap properties, the results show that the PM with triangular cell arrangement (PMT) possesses better bandgap properties than the others. The effects of material and geometry on bandgap properties are then explored thoroughly. In light of the spring-mass system theory, the regulation mechanism of bandgap properties is discussed. Multi-objective optimization is conducted to further enhance the bandgap properties of PMT. Based on the Latin hypercube design and double-points infilling, a high-accuracy Kriging model, which represents the relationship between the phononic bandgap (PBG), single mode phononic bandgap (SPBG), double-cone width, and node radius, is established to seek the Pareto optimal solution sets, using the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II). A fitness function is then employed to obtain the final compromise solution. The PBG and total bandgap of PMT are widened approximately 2.2 and 0.27 times, respectively, while the SPBG is narrowed by about 0.51 times. The research offers important understanding for the investigation of PM with superior acoustic regulation capacity.

Abstract:
The Grossman-Helpman “Protection for Sale” model, concerning the political economy of trade protection, yields clear predictions for the cross-sectional structure of import barriers. Our objective is to check whether the predictions of the Grossman-Helpman model are consistent with the data and, if the model finds support, to estimate its key structural parameters. We find that the pattern of protection in the United States in 1983 is broadly consistent with the predictions of the model. A surprising finding is that the weight of welfare in the government's objective function is many times larger than the weight of contributions. (JEL F1)

Abstract:
Initial symptoms of paraquat (PQ) toxicity are often not obvious, and the lack of advanced testing equipment and medical conditions in the primary hospital make it difficult to provide early diagnosis and timely treatment. To explore simple, objective, and effective indicators of prognosis for primary clinicians, we retrospectively analyzed acute PQ poisoning in 190 patients admitted to our hospital from 2008 to 2017. Based on their condition at the time of discharge, patients were categorized into either the survival group ( n = 71) or the mortality group ( n = 119). Age, PQ ingested amount, urinary PQ, urinary protein, white blood cell (WBC), and serum creatinine (Cr) were the key factors associated with the prognosis for PQ poisoning. We identified specific diagnostic thresholds for these key indicators of PQ poisoning: PQ ingested amount (36.50 mL), urinary PQ (semiquantitative result “++”), urinary protein (semiquantitative result “±”), WBC (16.50 × 109/L), and serum Cr (102.10 µmol/L). Combining these five indicators to identify poisoning outcomes was considered objective, accurate, and convenient. When the combined score was <1, the predicted probability of patient death was 6%. When the combined score was ≥3, the predicted probability of patient death was 96%. These findings provide metrics to assist primary clinicians in predicting outcomes of acute PQ poisoning at earlier stages, a basis for administering treatment.
