Abstract:
The rapid industrialization and growing energy needs have put a great stress on the conventional energy resources. This is even more concerning for a country like India which is a net importer of oil. To meet the ever increasing need for energy, it is essential that the search for unconventional energy is intensified. This paper deals with the estimation of coal bed methane potential of the Margherita Coal Field of Assam, India. For this purpose, eight coal samples were collected from Tirap O.C.P., Ledo UG Incline and Tikak O.C.P collieries of the Margherita coal field. Proximate analysis, megascopic study and finally qualitative analysis of these eight samples was undertaken. After analysis, the inferred reserves of CBM at Margherita Coalfield, was found to be in the range of 42.5-49.04 Billion Cubic Meter.Int J Appl Sci Biotechnol, Vol 3(2): 232-235DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/ijasbt.v3i2.12449

Abstract:
Background: Elderly people have multiple co morbidities and are often prescribed potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs). As there is paucity of information about the prescribing practices in elderly this study was undertaken to assess drug utilization patterns in elderly patients. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital. A total of 576 prescriptions of elderly patients were included in the study. Prescribing patterns among elderly patients attending OPD and admitted to wards of departments of Medicine, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Pulmonary Medicine, General Surgery, E.N.T., Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology were analysed using the prescribing indicators (WHO criteria). The PIMs were identified as per the Beers 2012 criteria. Results: The average number of drugs per patient was 3.91±1.93 for O.P.D and 7.37 ±2.22 for I.P.D. patients. 37.76% patients in I.P.D. and 26.87% patients in O.P.D. received a medication which was potentially inappropriate as per Beers 2012 criteria. 7.58% (234/3088) of total medications prescribed to patients in the study were potentially inappropriate. There was a significant increase in the number of PIMs (p value ˂0.05) as the total number of drugs prescribed increased. Conclusions: Educational programmes are needed to reinforce rational prescribing by physicians and precautions should be taken while prescribing potentially inappropriate drugs to elderly patients.

Abstract:
SummaryFlax pulp obtained by anthraquinone-soda pulping, resulting in a kappa number of 11.1, a viscosity of 950 ml/g and 36.7% ISO brightness, was bleached in a totally chlorine-free sequence using the enzyme laccase from the fungusPycnoporus cinnabarinusand 1-hydroxybenzotriazole (HBT) as redox mediator (stage L), followed by a hydrogen peroxide stage (P). The laccase treatment was optimized using a three-variable sequential statistical plan over the following ranges: 1–20 U/g o.d.p. (oven-dried pulp) laccase dose, 0.5–7.5% o.d.p. HBT dose and 1–24 h reaction time. The influence of these variables on several pulp properties after the P stage of the LP sequence was examined. The models defined from the results obtained predicted variations in ISO brightness, viscosity and kappa number of 57.6–74.8%,590–955 ml/g and 0–6.2, respectively. The variables most strongly influencing these pulp properties were found to be the reaction time and the enzyme dose. A compromise was adopted as regards the operating conditions in order to ensure optimum results. The study was completed by conducting a biobleaching assay in a pressurized reactor (590 kPa) to assess the effect of oxygen pressure. The high pressure level resulted in improved pulp properties by the laccase-mediator system.

Abstract:
Diabetes Mellitus is one of the of the most common non communicable or lifestyle disease globally. In Ayurveda this condition can be correlate with Madhumeha. It is one type of Prameha where the patient passes honey like urine. Prevalence of diabetes mellitus is rapidly rising throughout the world, where India leads with largest num- ber of diabetes. In Ayurveda Madhumeha is explained as Asadhya but also gives treatment for it. Ayurveda can be useful in the treatment of diabetes and associated complications. Sodhan and Shaman both are useful in the treat- ment of Madhumeha. A 64 years old male patient known case of Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus was visited in OPD of P. D. Patel Ayurveda Hospital, Nadiad. He had complaints of weakness, pain in both knee joint and shoulder joint with back pain since 10 years. Patient was on regular allopathic medicine for 10 year but he did not got any satisfactory relief in the sign and symptoms. His blood glucose level also not under control. He was treated for 28 days in I.P.D. treatment then after O.P.D. treatment also given. After treatment a significant improvement was noted in patient’s signs and symptoms. His blood glucose level also under control even after insulin therapy and hypoglycemic drugs were stopped. There was 80% relief after I.P.D. and O.P.D. treatment. On radiological workup following admission, USG B Scan, MRI Brain and 3D reconstructed faciomaxillary imaging were indeterminate for presence of foreign body, whereas CT scan showed a hyperdense lesion suggestive of intra-orbital foreign body. In this condition of imaging dilemma, surgical exploration was decided since there was no improvement in clinical symptoms via lateral orbital approach. Two small wooden pieces were detected in orbital exploration. This case highlights the role of history taking, clinical judgement in all cases of intraorbital tumour more so in paediatric population than solely going by the investigative modalities.

In this paper a brief account of the optimal tracking problem (O.T.P.) is given, to show that the response of the output vector of a linear observable system can be made to be close to some desired dynamic response. This optimal tracking problem has been applied to linear mathematical models of the F-100 jet engine for various operating conditions, and the results obtained prove that it is possible to achieve the desired thrust response at each operating condition without violating the engine's operational requirements. An attempt was made to establish whether a single control law, based on the solution of the optimal tracking problem at one condition, could be used with the engine throughout its operating range.

Although anticoccidial-resistant Eimeria spp. have been reported in avian industry, it has yet to be officially identified in dairy goats in Taiwan. This paper describes Eimeria strains, identified from a five-week-old kid, found to be resistant to sulfonamide drugs, due to the fact that the number of oocysts per gram of feces (O.P.G.) remained to be 9200 after seven consecutive days of treatment and only dropped to zero after another two consecutive days of treatment with toltrazuril. We believe this is the first paper to identify the emergence of an anticoccidial-resistant Eimeria spp. strain, and further investigation should be warranted. This paper would help farmers and veterinarians consider an alternative treatment protocol when dealing with coccidiosis in the goat industry.

Abstract:
Abstract The sandy littoral of Sète, with its barred shoreface, is one of the three studied sites of the thematic action “Morphodynamics of sandy beaches” of the French Programme National d’Environnement Côtier (PNEC), selected because of its microtidal wave-dominated characteristics and of the long time series of available data. During the PNEC program, the principal results obtained show that the morphological evolution of the sedimentary bars can be synthesized according to two conceptual models, in reaction to hydrodynamic variability. (1) The model of “oscillation around a position of equilibrium” (O.P.E) defines the usual mode of behaviour of the bars, with an alternation of shoreward and seaward movements. The bars migrate seaward during storms and shoreward when the energy conditions decrease. This oscillation is expressed with several rhythms. (i) During the main phases of the bar evolution, which are long periods during which the bars present the same geometrical characters. The passage from one phase to the other occurs when a 4 m significant height storm happens. (ii) At the seasonal scale, which is well illustrated by the behaviour of the inner bar: during summer, when the conditions of agitation are weak, the bar aggregates punctually with the shore; when the conditions of agitation increase in autumn the inner bar is reformed and moved seaward. (2) The model of “Net Offshore Migration” (N.O.M) points to the tendency of the bars to retreat under the effect of paroxysmal events (storms with a 20 to 50 yrs return time) being a prelude to their degeneration. From the former position of equilibrium, the outer bar strongly moves seaward and drops following heavy swell. Instead of moving to the coast according to the O.P.E model, the outer bar loses material that is recovered by the inner bar and degenerates. The inner bar, exposed to the swell, then moves seaward to replace the initial outer bar, a new inner bar being created at the coast. A few years after, the standard pattern is restored. These results are compared with those described in the literature.

Abstract As the popularity of female cosmetic genital surgery has grown, so has the number of publications detailing surgical techniques, particularly regarding labiaplasty. As a nascent surgical field, much room remains for finesse and exploration of new techniques to optimize outcomes and patient satisfaction. We present the techniques for anterior and posterior commissuroplasty the senior author (O.J.P.) has developed. Anterior commissuroplasty is efficacious in addressing a number of anatomic variations to achieve the appearance of a single midline cleft, which is commonly requested by patients. Posterior commissuroplasty was developed to address skin excess at the posterior fourchette that may develop as a result of labiaplasty. Either technique may be used in combination with labiaplasty or as a stand-alone procedure. These tools may be a useful addition to the repertoire of a surgeon practicing female genital surgery. Revisiting various concepts and results of Isbell, Linton, Bacsich and Herrera, we note, among other things, that the dominion (resp. the stable dominion) of a subset of a structure K is its closure under O P I's (resp. under equalizer-closed O P I's), and we show that in a variety, all epis are surjective (resp. all monos are regular) iff all limit-closed (resp. product-closed) O P I's are restrictions of total implicit operations.

Abstract:
Platinum (Pt.) thin films have been deposited by Magnetron Sputtering Deposition method with 25 nm and 50 nm thickness by used power RF for deposited 5 nm Titanium (Ti) firstly then used DC for deposited Platinum (Pt) on Ni-Cr alloy substrate. SEM/EDX and Ellipsometry Spectroscopy have been used to investigate the morphology, element analysis, nanothickness and roughness of the thin films respectively. Electrochemical corrosion tests have been used to analyze the localized corrosion resistance by used cyclic polarization, Tafel extrapolation and open circuit potential (o.c.p) methods on artificial saliva solution at 37 ±1 oC. The results show the ability to deposit 5 nm of Ti before deposited of Pt. film to improve the adhesive of the films, nanostructure morphology of the Pt. film without defect or microcracks, nanocoatings thickness of Pt. film, and high localized corrosion resistance in artificial saliva corrosive media.

Abstract:
Diabetes and Periodontitis are the most common chronic disease in the world. Abundant epidemiology evidence implies a bidirectional relationship between these two diseases. Periodontitis has been reported as the 6th compli- cation of Diabetic Mellitus. In Ayurveda, there is no direct reference for Diabetic Periodontitis. But the symptoms of Upakusha can be correlated to Periodontitis. Dantamala is one of the Prameha Poorvarupa which is quoted by Sushruta in NidanaSthana. Prathisarana and Gandusha are the procedures explained in our classics for oral hy- giene. So, the present study was undertaken to study the effect of Gaurasarsapa Lepana and LakshadiTaila Gandusha in the management of Diabetic Periodontitis. 40 patients with Diabetic Periodontitis as per inclusion criteria were selected from O.P.D and IPD of SJIIM Hospital, Bengaluru.40 Patients were treated by Gaurasarsa- pa Lepana followed by LakshadiTaila Gandusha for 15dyas. Clinical signs and symptoms were given suitable scores according to the severity and were assessed by pre and post data given in research proforma, designed for the study. The treatment showed significant results after the treatment. Keywords: Diabetic Periodontitis, Upakusha, Prathisarana, Gandusha.

Abstract The article summarizes fundamental facts of a part of the research project that was focused on pupils' professional orientation and on technical and practical competence of pupils at senior primary grade of the schools within Moravian-Silesian County. The research was executed by means of on-line data collection provided by Methodical and Evaluation Centre o.p.s. in 2008 and 2009. The data analysis of the results of General Interest Structure Test (AIST-R test), which deals with the professional orientation, demonstrated an interesting structure of pupils' professional orientation. The pupils from 6th up to 8th classes were examined. We obtained preferences of the interests structure, the most sought combinations of career selection, aspiration levels of reached education and all that for about 1,600 pupils. This internationally proven test in a computational version was used continually with a newly constructed achievement method for finding out aptitudes linked with technical and practical competence (TTPP - Test of Technical and Practical Competence). The results that foreshadow possibilities of pupils' professional aiming might become a useful tool of their motivation then.

Background: Human Papilloma Virus has been found to be associated with cervical squamous cell carcinoma. Studies and reviews indicate that HPV testing is more sensitive than Pap smear for identifying cervical cancer and its precursors in population screening. Hybrid capture 2 assays detect high oncogenic risk viruses and can be used as primary screening tool for women older than 30 years. Methods: A detailed history followed by a thorough clinical and gynecological examination was carried out for women attending the gynecological O.P.D. HPV-DNA (HCT) samples were collected using a cytobrush. Suspicious lesions of the cervix were further subjected to colposcopy directed loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) and sent for histopathological examination in formalin. The results of HPV-DNA (HCT) and histopatholgical report were then correlated. Results: In this study, one hundred and sixty women were screened for HPV-DNA. Thirty-two women were found to be positive for HPV-DNA. They were further subjected to colposcopy directed large loop electrosurgical procedure. The positive patients were found to have either low-grade or high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Conclusions: The use of HPV-DNA test may make it a viable alternative to cytological screening especially as a less frequent screening.

Abstract:
Background: Burns are a major, global public health problem, resulting in an estimated 195,000 deaths annually. Most burns occur in low-and middle-income countries, with almost half occurring in the south-east Asia region. The reasons for the high incidence include widespread ignorance of fire prevention, the rapid increase of poor socio-economic conditions, and the persistence of old traditions and customs. Methods: The study was carried out in Department of Surgery, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, SRH University, Swami Ram Nagar, Dehradun over a period of 12months. Cases of the post burn contractures attended in the O.P.D were included in the study. Results: A total of 45 patients were included in the study. Of these, 22 (48.8%) were males and 23 (51.2%) were females. Ages ranged from 1 to 55year. Flame burn (20 cases = 44.4%) was the most common type of initial burn insult followed by scald burns (14 cases=31.1%).Conclusions: The pitfalls in initial burn care that lead to contractures in the patients include the failure to institute adequate surgical management of deep burns, the lack of physiotherapy/ROM exercises, and failure to provide proper anti-deformity splint age. There is need to revisit the prevalent acute burn care practices and establish focused preventive strategies.
