Des enquêtes sur la trypanosomose porcine menées aux abattoirs et sur les marchés de brousse ont concerné 1 954 porcs croisés, âgés de 6 à 30 mois et élevés dans la zone du Middle Belt au Sud-Nigeria. Elles ont révélé un taux de 26,8 % d'infection. Parmi les animaux infectés, 66,5 % l'étaient par Trypanosoma brucei et T. congolense (infection mixte), 23,9 % par T. brucei et 8,2 % par T. congolense. Dans 1,5 % des cas, l'agent causal n'a pu être identifié et aucune preuve n'a été apportée de l'existence de T. simiae. Pour les deux sexes, le taux d'infection était significativement plus élevé (p < 0,05) chez les porcs provenant des abattoirs (37,8 %) que chez ceux des fermiers (21,8 %). Un pic a été noté chez les animaux âgés de 11 à 15 mois, de même qu'à la fin de la saison des pluies et au commencement de la saison sèche (de septembre à décembre). Des tests complémentaires d'inoculation sur souris ont révélé 83 cas à l'état subclinique ou latent. L'auteur les recommande comme technique de confirmation du diagnostic. La maladie crée des problèmes aux éleveurs et la coopération des chercheurs est essentielle.

Des bovins Borgou (n = 10), Lagunaire (n = 10) et zébus Bororo blancs (n = 10) du Bénin ont été infectés expérimentalement avec un clone de Trypanosoma brucei brucei en vue d'évaluer le test ELISA de détection d'antigènes circulants. Aucun des trois témoins non inoculés de chacune des races n'a développé d'infection. Les bovins Lagunaire et Borgou ont développé une maladie bénigne suivie de guérison spontanée, les zébus Bororo blancs une maladie typique à allure chronique et fatale après plusieurs mois. Pour tous les animaux confondus, la sensibilité du test de détection des antigènes circulants de T. brucei a été de 20,46 %, nettement inférieure à celle de la détection des parasites par la méthode du buffy coat (40,24 %). La sensibilité du test varie fortement en fonction du type d'animaux infectés et de l'allure de l'infection; elle est la plus élevée chez les bovins Borgou aux parasitémies élevées mais de durée plus courte (44,44 %) et la plus faible chez les zébus Bororo blancs aux parasitémies faibles et intermittentes (4,09 %). Augmenter la sensibilité du test de détection des antigènes circulants en abaissant la densité optique de 0,050 (seuil de positivité) à 0,025 paraît impossible sans altérer sa spécificité. Comparés au buffy coat, les faux négatifs du début d'infection et les faux positifs d'après la guérison spontanée compromettent également la valeur du test pour le diagnostic des infections actives à T. brucei.

Les variations biochimiques plasmatiques ont été étudiées durant 8 semaines consécutives chez des chèvres Red Sokoto expérimentalement infectées par 1,6.10 puissance 7 Trypanosoma brucei injectés par voie intraveineuse. Le pouvoir infectieux de la souche 8/18 s'est révélé élevé. L'hématocrite moyen a diminué de façon significative entre la 1ère et la 8e semaine après l'infection (post-infection PI) (P < 0,05). Durant cette période, les concentrations plasmatiques moyennes en bilirubine totale ont augmenté significativement (P < 0,05). Les taux moyens de bilirubine conjuguée (directe) et de bilirubine libre (indirecte) ont augmenté significativement de la 2e à la 8e semaine PI (P < 0,05). L'albuminémie moyenne n'a pas varié de façon significative (P > 0,05), mais les concentrations moyennes en protéines plasmatiques totales et en globulines ont augmenté significativement entre la 5e et la 8e semaine PI (P < 0,05). Aucune modification significative des concentrations moyennes en bicarbonates, de la créatininémie et de la cholestérolémie n'a été notée (P > 0,05)

Three species of the alpheid shrimp genus Salmoneus Holthuis, 1955 associated with burrows of other decapod crustaceans are reported from various Indo-West Pacific localities. Salmoneus venustus sp. nov. is described based on material collected at two distant localities, Nha Trang Bay, southern Vietnam, the type locality of the new species, and the Yiti-Sifah region east of Muscat, northern Oman. Both specimens were collected with the aid of a suction pump applied to burrow entrances or mounds in muddy sand; the holotype was possibly associated with burrows of the callianassid ghost shrimp, Glypturus sp. Salmoneus venustus sp. nov. shares many characteristics with S. latirostris (Coutière, 1897), including the red banding of the pleon, but can be distinguished from S. latirostris and all other species of the genus by a unique combination of morphological characters. The large-sized Salmoneus brucei Komai, 2009 is reported from Sumba, central Indonesia, representing a significant southward extension of the species’ previously known distribution range and the first record since its original description. The callianassid ghost shrimp Lepidophthalmus cf. rosae (Nobili, 1904) is recorded as a new host of S. brucei. Finally, Salmoneus colinorum De Grave, 2004, associated with burrows of larger snapping shrimps from the Alpheus malabaricus Fabricius, 1798 species complex, is reported for the first time from Madang, Papua New Guinea, representing an eastward extension of the species’ previously known distribution range.

Numerous plants are reported to have ethno-therapeutic properties; among these plants are the leaves of Moringa oleifera and Azadirachta indica used for the treatment of protozoan infections. Forty grower rabbits at approximately 70 days old were used to determine the prophylactic anti-trypanosomal effects of the dry leaf meals of Moringa oleifera (MLM) and Azadirachta indica (NLM). The rabbits were placed into eight groups of five animals each in a completely randomized design, with mean live weights of 1.2 Kg. The rabbits were allotted to four diets (D1, D2, D3 and D4) and two levels of inoculation (inoculated and uninoculated rabbits) in a 4×2 factorial arrangement of a Completely Randomised Design. Parameters monitored were performance, serum biochemistry and rectal temperature. The parasitaemia were presented as line graph for the infected rabbits. The percent mortality of the groups was evaluated and no mortality was observed for rabbits fed D4. No significant differences (P>0.05) were observed between treatments for growth rate, feed intake and feed conversion, except rectal temperature and total protein (P<0.05) in serum biochemistry. Rabbits that were uninfected with trypanosomes had (P<0.05) lower total protein than the infected animals except T2. It was concluded that only the 1% MLM had prophylactic anti- trypanosomal effect on serum total protein and mortality amelioration of T. b. brucei infected rabbits when administered alone and a combination of both MLM and NLM prevented pyrexia and mortality.
De nombreuses plantes auraient des propriétés ethno-thérapeutiques ; parmi ces plantes figurent les feuilles de Moringaoleifera et d'Azadirachtaindica utilisées pour le traitement des infections protozoaires. Quarante lapins de culture à environ 70 jours ont été employés pour déterminer les effets anti-trypanosomal prophylactiques des repas secs de feuille de Moringaoleifera (le 'MLM') et d'Azadirachtaindica (le 'NLM'). Les lapins ont été placés en huit groupes de cinq animaux chacun dans une conception complètement randomisée, avec des poids vivants moyen de 1,2 kg. Les lapins ont été attribués à quatre régimes (D1, D2, D3 et D4) et deux niveaux d'inoculation (lapins inoculés et non ininoculés) dans un arrangement factorial de 4×2 d'un Désigne complètement randomisé. Les paramètres surveillés étaient la performance, la biochimie sérique et la température rectale. La parasitémie a été présentée comme graphique linéaire pour les lapins infectés. La mortalité en pourcentage des groupes a été évaluée et aucune mortalité n'a été observée chez les lapins nourris au D4. Aucune différence significative (P>0,05) n'a été observée entre les traitements pour le taux de croissance, l'apport alimentaire et la conversion des aliments pour animaux, à l'exception de la température rectale et de la protéine totale (P<0,05) dans la biochimie sérique. Les lapins qui n'étaient pas infectés par les trypanosomes avaient (P<0,05) moins de protéines totales que les animaux infectés, à l'exception du T2. On l'a conclu que seulement le MLM de 1% a eu l'effet anti-trypanosomal prophylactique sur la protéine totale de sérum et l'amélioration de mortalité des lapins infectés de T.b. brucei une fois administrés seuls et une combinaison de MLM et de NLM a empêché la pyrexie et la mortalité.

De la difluorométhylornithine (DFMO, eflornithine) a été donnée par voie intraveineuse (lV) à des chiens infectés expérimentalement par Trypanosoma brucei. Une posologie de 400 g/kg/jour répartie en trois doses quotidiennes pendant 7 jours pour les primo-infections ou 21 jours lors de rechutes ne s'est pas révélée curative. Le traitement des primo-infections aussi bien que de leurs récidives s'est caractérisé par un déclenchement lent de l'action (le coefficient d'épuration parasitaire a été atteint après 4 à 5 jours de traitement) et de courtes périodes sans parasitémie (6 jours). L'administration simultanée de DFMO et d'une seule dose de Berenil (7 mg/kg) pour les primo-infections a permis d'obtenir des résultats chimiothérapeutiques plus importants que ceux de la monothérapie car elle n'a pas été suivie de rechute. L'administration orale de DFMO a provoqué, dans les quatre jours qui ont suivi, une perte d'appétit, des vomissements, une diarrhée abondante et une déshydratation avancée. Ces inconvénients importants font de la voie IV une véritable alternative à celle de la thérapeutique orale.

Recent developments in laboratory-based micro X-ray diffraction (µXRD) have extended X-ray examination of geomaterials to the microscopic level (50–500 µm), greatly expanding the applicability of XRD to mineralogy, petrology, materials, environmental, and planetary sciences. Laboratory-based µXRD has been accomplished using a Bruker D8 Discover diffractometer, having a sealed-tube Cu source, theta–theta geometry, Gobel mirror parallel optics with 50–500 µm collimation, and general area detector diffraction system (GADDS). A wide range of samples, including polished thin sections, electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) mounts, rock slabs, whole rocks, and powders have been examined with µXRD using a remote-controlled XYZ sample stage, with imaging by optical microscope monitor and charge-coupled device (CCD) camera. Individual grains in heterogeneous samples have been examined in situ, with little or no sample preparation. The two-dimensional GADDS preserves textural and crystallinity information (e.g., bioapatite) and easily discriminates between multiple phases of utility for synthetic or natural samples (e.g., mine tailings). In situ µXRD of minerals preserves spatial relationships, enabling study of orientational phenomena, such as strain-related mosaicity (giving “streaked” diffraction lines). Examples include strained quartz (La Malbaie quartzite, Quebec) and shocked clinopyroxenes (Shergottite NWA 3171). Mineral mapping has been demonstrated by reproducing exsolution textures of kamacite from taenite (Widmanstätten pattern) in the Toluca iron meteorite. Diffraction data obtained from single crystals (by the omega scan method) have enabled grain-by-grain correlation between unit cell (µXRD) and chemical composition (EPMA), as demonstrated by kimberlite indicator garnets. The examples shown herein demonstrate the breadth of information that can be obtained by µXRD of Earth and planetary materials.

Background: Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases play an important role in catalyzing the first step in protein synthesis by attaching the appropriate amino acid to its cognate tRNA which then transported to the growing polypeptide chain. Asparaginyl-tRNA Synthetase (AsnRS) from Brugia malayi, Leishmania major, Thermus thermophilus, Trypanosoma brucei have been shown to play an important role in survival and pathogenesis. Entamoeba histolytica (Ehis) is an anaerobic eukaryotic pathogen that infects the large intestines of humans. It is a major cause of dysentery and has the potential to cause life-threatening abscesses in the liver and other organs making it the second leading cause of parasitic death after malaria. Ehis-AsnRS has not been studied in detail, except the crystal structure determined at 3 Å resolution showing that it is primarily α-helical and dimeric. It is a homodimer, with each 52 kDa monomer consisting of 451 amino acids. It has a relatively short N-terminal as compared to its human and yeast counterparts. Objective: Our study focusses to understand certain structural characteristics of Ehis-AsnRS using biophysical tools to decipher the thermodynamics of unfolding and its binding properties. Methods: Ehis-AsnRS was cloned and expressed in E. coli BL21DE3 cells. Protein purification was performed using Ni-NTA affinity chromatography, following which the protein was used for biophysical studies. Various techniques such as steady-state fluorescence, quenching, circular dichroism, differential scanning fluorimetry, isothermal calorimetry and fluorescence lifetime studies were employed for the conformational characterization of Ehis-AsnRS. Protein concentration for far-UV and near-UV circular dichroism experiments was 8 µM and 20 µM respectively, while 4 µM protein was used for the rest of the experiments. Results: The present study revealed that Ehis-AsnRS undergoes unfolding when subjected to increasing concentration of GdnHCl and the process is reversible. With increasing temperature, it retains its structural compactness up to 45ºC before it unfolds. Steady-state fluorescence, circular dichroism and hydrophobic dye binding experiments cumulatively suggest that Ehis-AsnRS undergoes a two-state transition during unfolding. Shifting of the transition mid-point with increasing protein concentration further illustrate that dissociation and unfolding processes are coupled indicating the absence of any detectable folded monomer. Conclusion: This article indicates that GdnHCl induced denaturation of Ehis-AsnRS is a two – state process and does not involve any intermediate; unfolding occurs directly from native dimer to unfolded monomer. The solvent exposure of the tryptophan residues is biphasic, indicating selective quenching. Ehis-AsnRS also exhibits a structural as well as functional stability over a wide range of pH.

Uppsatsen undersöker negativ valretorik i några utvalda valkampanjer från Nya moderaterna och Alliansen. Materialet består av tre valkampanjer, två från Nya moderaterna och en från Alliansen. Samtliga kännetecknas av användandet av negativ valretorik. De metoder och analyser som används är topikanalys, pragma-dialektisk argumentationsanalys, stilanalys och visuell retorik. Syftet med uppsatsen är att genom dessa metoder analysera valkampanjerna för att se hur negativ valretorik används som en retorisk strategi.

Segregation och social exkludering har på senare tid ökat allt mer i Sverige, både i storstäderna och i de mindre kommunerna. För att motverka detta har stor del av segregationsforskningen fokuserat på att bryta homogena boendeformer i segregerade stadsdelar genom exempelvis kompletterande ny bebyggelse eller förändrade upplåtelseformer. Men hur fungerar det i särskilt känsliga kulturmiljöområden där det finns svårigheter med kompletterande bebyggelse och där ändrade upplåtelseformer riskerar att förvanska den arkitektoniska kvaliteten? I detta mastersarbete undersöker jag hur segregation kan motverkas i områden som är särskilt känsliga ur kulturmiljösynpunkt. För detta har jag valt Nya bruket i Sandviken som undersökningsområde, ritat och planerat av Ralph Erskine. Området omfattas idag av riksintresse för kulturmiljö samtidigt som området är det mest segregerade i Sandvikens kommun. Arbetet är ett kombinerat vetenskapligt och konstnärligt arbete i två delar, en uppsats (del 1) och ett projekt (del 2). Del 1 består av en kartläggning av platsens historia, de vandrade observationerna samt intervjuer av två tjänstepersoner och åtta olika personer som är boende på Nya bruket. Den insamlade empirin visar bland annat att alla de tillfrågade trivs på Nya bruket men att det finns flertalet negativa föreställningar om området, oftast formade från de mer socioekonomiskt starka områdena som inte rör sig på Nya bruket. Empirin visar också att det finns barriärer runt området och att platsens historia och riksintresse inte uppmärksammas alls. Bland annat visar intervjuerna att endast 2 av 8 av de tillfrågade vet om att området omfattas av riksintresse för kulturmiljö. Baserat på analysen av den insamlande empirin utformades ett kunskapsunderlag som ligger till grund för projektet i del 2. Kunskapsunderlaget består av de tre olika åtgärdsstrategierna lyfta historien, bryta barriärer och skapa målpunkter samt de sex olika platserna för vilket åtgärderna lämpar sig bäst: kanalrummet, diagonalen, förskolan, parkeringarna och garagen, centrala kvarteret och gröna torget. I del 2 som består av projektet testades och utvecklades kunskapsunderlagets strategier vilket skapade konkreta förslag på en bättre integrering av Nya bruket i Sandviken. Designkonceptet som användes var urban akupunktur vilket har som syfte att punktvis göra precisa åtgärder och på så vis lyfta stadsdelar (Nya bruket i detta fall) som helhet. Åtgärderna som utformades i projektet sammanställdes i fem övergripande kategorier: ny stadsgata, omvandling av centrala kvarteret, Gröna torget som multi-funktionell yta, kanalen som historisk plats och förlängning av parkstråket. Genom urban akupunktur skapade dessa åtgärder det nyaste Nya bruket - Nya bruket 3.0.

Denna studie undersökte samarbetet mellan landsting och Socialtjänst gällande unga vuxna mellan 18 till 25 som brukar "nya drogtyper" i Gävles lokalsamhälle. En kvalitativ metod har tillämpats med semisstrukturerade intervjuer med fem professionella inom kommun och landsting för att få en djupgående förståelse för intervjupersonernas unika upplevelser av det rådande ämnet. Intervjumaterialet analyserades utifrån det teoretiska perspektivet organisationskultur. Studien visade på att samarbetet mellan Psykiatri och Socialtjänst är problematisk och enligt intervjupersonerna kan det bero på de attityder och synsätt som finns hos de två huvudmännen. The objective of this dissertation is to develop a methodology for describing the functionality, analyzing the complexity, and evaluating the performance of a large class of pattern-matching circuit design approaches for field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The developed methodology consists of three elements. The first is a functional model and associated nomenclature that unifies a significant portion of published circuit design approaches while also illuminating many novel approaches. The second is a set of analytical expressions that model the area and time complexity of each circuit design approach based on attributes of a given pattern set. Third, software tools are developed that facilitate architectural design space exploration and circuit implementation. This methodology is used to conduct an extensive evaluation and comparison of design approaches under a wide range of conditions using pattern sets from multiple application domains as well as synthetic pattern sets. The results indicate strong dependences between pattern set properties and circuit performance and provide new insights on the fundamental nature of various design approaches.
A number of techniques have been proposed for designing pattern-matching hardware circuits with reconfigurable FPGA chips. The use of FPGAs enables high performance because the circuits can be customized for a particular application and pattern set. A relatively unstudied consequence of tailoring circuits for specific patterns is that circuit area and performance are affected by various properties of the patterns used. Most previous work in this field only considers a single design approach and a small number of pattern sets. Therefore, it is not clear how each design is affected by pattern set properties. For a given set of patterns, it is difficult to determine which approach would be the most efficient or provide the highest performance. Previous attempts to compare approaches using results from different publications are conflicting and inconclusive due to variations in the FPGA devices, patterns, and circuit optimizations used. There has been no attempt to evaluate a wide range of designs under a common set of conditions. The methodology presented in this dissertation provides a framework for studying multiple aspects of FPGA pattern-matching circuits in a controlled and consistent manner.

The purpose of this essay is to analyze the ideology of the cultural phenomenon, that is as political as it is controversial, the new atheism. By studying the ideas and values of four prominent new atheists, commonly referred to as the ‘four horsemen of the new atheism’, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, and Daniel Dennett, this study aims to, in some ways challenge, and in others, nuance, the categorization of the movement. Its adherents have often been labeled as, for example: ‘secular fundamentalists’, ‘evangelical’ and ‘radical secularists’. None of these designations are inherently wrong. But I think there is a more fitting term available: ‘societal secular maximalist’. This term is a modified version of ‘religious maximalism’, coined by the historian of religion at the University of Chicago, Bruce Lincoln. I argue that the new atheist ideology is not fundamentalistic because it admits fallibility if another theory where to disprove it within its own scientific discourse. Considering this fact, it does not hold is central ideological feature, most commonly a Darwinist theory of evolution, as absolute. Due to this, and some other factors, I argue that the societal secular maximalist categorization is more fitting because the scientific and humanistic views of the ‘four horsemen’ lay claim to all aspects of human existence, private and public, emotional, and factual along with the morals, ethics and aesthetics of our societies.

L'objet de ce travail est la conception et la realisation de photodiodes a avalanche a multi-puits quantiques a eclairage lateral pour les telecommunications optiques. Ces photodiodes permettent d'obtenir des produits gain-bande eleves et d'envisager la realisation de photorecepteurs tres sensibles et fonctionnant a 20 gbit/s. Les couches sont epitaxiees par jets moleculaires. Les epaisseurs de la couche d'absorption et d'avalanche ont ete definies par la resolution des equations de courants dans les differentes zones. Les resultats ont abouti a des produits gain-bande simules situes entre 130 ghz et 170 ghz. La zone de transition, permettant la repartition des champs electriques dans les zones d'avalanche et d'absorption, a ete definie en resolvant l'equation de poisson. L'etude du champ electrique et de la capacite a permis de determiner une zone de transition graduelle non dopee, intercalee entre deux fines zones dopees p. L'optimisation des couches de confinement est necessaire pour realiser des structures multimodes a forte sensibilite. Les calculs des modes guides et de la sensibilite (autour de 0,9 a/w) ont abouti a des structures dissymetriques, simplifiant ainsi les etapes technologiques. La methode modale a ete validee par des calculs de puissance propagee (bpm) et par des calculs des modes guides en complexe, mettant en evidence l'influence des metallisations de contact sur la dependance de la sensibilite a la polarisation. Les differentes etapes technologiques ont ete mises au point, en particulier les etapes de gravure. Le nitrure de passivation sert egalement de couche anti-reflet. La technologie developpee est simple, reproductible et permet une caracterisation des composants directement sur tranche. Les composants realises ont donne des performances a l'etat de l'art. Les mesures de bruit ont permis de determiner des gains allant jusqu'a 30 et des facteurs d'exces de bruit inferieurs a 4 pour m=10. Les frequences de coupure, superieures a 20 ghz, conduisent a des produits gain-bande superieurs a 165 ghz. Les sensibilites de 10 a/w mesurees prouvent, pour la premiere fois, la faisabilite de photodiodes a avalanche sensibles et rapides. Ces caracteristiques, etablissant un nouvel etat de l'art dans le domaine, font de ces photodiodes d'excellentes candidates pour la photoreception a 20 gbit/s.

Le grand nombre de voies d'acquisition des signaux issus du calorimetre electromagnetique du detecteur atlas (machine lhc) pose un probleme de cablage et des solutions prevoyant le placement de la partie amont de la chaine electronique d'acquisition dans le meme milieu que l'element froid de detection ont ete envisagees. L'electronique amont doit donc etre resistante aux radiations (2 10#1#4n/cm#2, 0. 5mrad), fonctionner a la temperature de l'argon liquide (89k), avoir un faible niveau de bruit, une non-linearite inferieure a 1%, consommer peu et etre rapide (40mhz). Dans le cadre de ce projet nous avons explore les possibilites offertes par les differentes technologies. Nous avons retenu les technologies asga qui resistent aux radiations et fonctionnent jusqu'a des temperatures cryogeniques. Nous avons mis en evidence au moyen de caracterisations (a basse temperature) le fait que les technologies asga sont capables de fonctionner dans un tel environnement. Les amplificateurs concus presentent une amelioration de leurs performances quand ils fonctionnent a basse temperature (reduction du bruit, reduction de la puissance dissipee augmentation du gain) rencontrant les contraintes posees par la calorimetrie dans atlas, faible niveau de bruit, faible puissance dissipee, grande dynamique de sortie et bonne non-linearite integrale, mais ne sont pas encore capables d'assurer un niveau de fiabilite de fabrication suffisant. Nous abordons egalement le probleme de la simulation des mesfet a basse temperature. Les modeles manquant, nous avons employe pour la simulation des parametres spice extraits a la temperature de l'azote liquide. Finalement, nous avons approfondi la simulation du bruit des circuits analogiques et mis en evidence les problemes existant ainsi que les precautions a prendre afin de rendre la simulation spice du bruit plus fiable.

Presumed Criminal is a provocative analysis of youth, race, and crime in New York City from the 1930s to the 1960s that shows how shifts in the criminal justice system bolstered authoritative efforts that criminalized black youths. Grounded in extensive research, it is a startling examination of a historical past that appears to be anything but past.The criminalization of black youth is inseparable from its racialized origins. Thus, when the federal government entered the debate on how to address juvenile delinquency in the United States, it occurred at a critical juncture when Progressive-era modes of rehabilitation were being replaced by disparate means of punishment. Black youths bore the brunt of the transition. In New York City, increased state surveillance of predominantly black communities compounded arrest rates into the post–World War II period, which gave reason to become tough on crime. Extreme police practices, such as stop-and-frisk, combined with media sensationalism, cemented black youths as the primary cause for concern. Consequently, before the War on Crime, black youths already faced a punitive justice system that restricted their social mobility and categorically branded them as criminal—a stigma they continue to endure.

Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP) er en tiltaksplan og et dokumentasjonsverktøy som har til hensikt å kvalitetssikre omsorg ved livets slutt. I Norge er 329 sykehjem registrerte brukere av tiltaksplanen. Planen finnes i både papirbasert- og elektronisk format. Hensikten med denne studien var å utforske dokumentasjonspraksisen når elektronisk tiltaksplan brukes til døende pasienter i sykehjem. Studien bygger på datamateriale fra fokusgruppeintervju som ble gjennomført i forbindelse med et implementeringsprosjekt ved to sykehjem i Midt-Norge. En mysteriefokusert analysemetode, «Mystery as method», ble brukt for å få dypereliggende kunnskap om dokumentasjonspraksisen – en metode som går ut på å skape og løse mysterier. Det inkarnerte mysteriet viser en diskrepans i intervjutekstene, hvor helsepersonellet erfarer at LCP er et krevende dokumentasjonsverktøy, samtidig som de – paradoksalt nok – har en gjennomgående positiv holdning til verktøyet. Løsningen på mysteriet gir oss en forståelse av at tiltaksplanen i utgangspunktet er en rigid plan, som er lite tilpasset kontekstuelle forhold – og hvor helsepersonell strever med å internalisere planen i egen praksis. Planen synes imidlertid til å fungere som et symbol på tillit og legitimering av praksis, noe som veier opp for de negative erfaringene med planen. Videre ser det også ut til å skje en frakopling fra den rigide planen, hvor tiltaksplanen genererer nye og spennende effekter ut over det som var den opprinnelige hensikten med planen: felles kultur, kompetanseoverføring og økt trygghet hos helsepersonell.

Orwell himself had this goal in mind but saw it as requiring considerable sacrifice on the part of the more prosperous. Examining Orwell’s BBC broadcasts to India during World War II, Robbins suggests that Orwell saw wartime rationing as surprising evidence that people were willing to deny themselves material goods for some greater good; hence they might be capable of doing so again in the interest of greater global equality.

This chapter compares instances of worker mobility and marginalization in the workplace. Wilson examines the mechanisms by which some Latino workers have been able to access better-quality jobs while others have not. Specifically, he argues that later-generation Latinos leverage their “in-betweenness” to gain more prominent roles in a socially and culturally divided workplace. By contrast, those who remain stuck in the lowest-rung restaurant jobs are hampered by compounded disadvantages that cut them off from not only their fellow coworkers but also relatively better job opportunities that are available to the latter. Confined to the “back closet” of restaurant employment, undocumented Latina workers bear the brunt of a socially segregated workplace that has no place for them but at the bottom and out of the way.

This chapter recovers the case of the Harlem Six to attest to the firmness of race as a crucial determinant in American notions of crime and delinquency. The progress made in the decade of delinquency was met by systemic and institutionalized racism in the 1960s. Efforts to create a fair and impartial juvenile justice system became a thing of the past, and black youths in New York City bore the brunt of inordinate police practices and, consequently, endured the stigma of criminality henceforth. With anticrime laws such as “stop-and-frisk” and “no-knock,” which contributed to disparate arrest rates and increased police encounters in predominantly black communities, New York City officials established a police state that created a climate for dissension. This tale of criminal injustice reveals the extent to which the community was compelled to go to protect its youths from the overwhelming power of the state.

Ein vesentleg grunn låg i protestantismens personreligiøsitet, dvs. i vektlegginga av det særeigne forholdet mellom den einskilde og guddomen. Grunnlaget var Luthers fem maksimar, som vart omgjort til ein praktisk handlingsregel om at lekfolk ved sjølvsyn skulle kome til sann erkjenning gjennom individualisert bibellesing.

Dette er en utvikling som også har fått økt oppmerksomhet i virksomheters rapportering, og en rekke aktører tar i bruk nye kriterier knyttet til bærekraft i sine retningslinjer og modeller for økonomiske beslutninger. Med utgangspunkt i regnskapsdirektivet har EU-kommisjonen utgitt retningslinjer for rapportering fra store foretak om ikke-finansiell informasjon. I dette kapittelet bygger vi på kunnskap fra utviklingen av finansiell rapportering og kriterier som har blitt utviklet for å forbedre og understøtte denne, og vurderer fundamentet for retningslinjer for rapportering av klimarelaterte opplysninger. Kapittelet bygger på en dokumentanalyse for å belyse grunnleggende forutsetninger om rapporteringsenhet, rapporteringens formål og kvalitetskriterier for ikke-finansiell foretaksrapportering. Dokumentanalysens resultat indikerer at kravene til ikke-finansiell rapportering kan videreutvikles med hensyn til systematikk og konsistens tilsvarende det som er utviklet for finansiell rapportering. Grunnlaget for rapportering av ikke-finansiell informasjon fremstår som uklart med hensyn til rapporteringsenhet, rapporteringens formål og sentrale kvalitetskriterier. Med bakgrunn i analysen foreslås det at det bør utvikles kvalitetskriterier for ikke-finansiell informasjon basert på kvalitetskrav til informasjon IFRS konseptuelt rammeverk for finansiell rapportering. Det er også behov for økt forskning innen ikke-finansiell rapportering.

Voksne som samhandler med barn kommer ofte i situasjoner som ikke har en handlingsmaksime. Dette er gjennomgående også for lærerprofesjonen og må av den grunn fokuseres på i lærerutdanningen. For å øve opp og reflektere over mulige handlingsvalg kan samtaler med utgangspunkt i ulike kunstverk være en vei å gå. Gjennom dialog, ulike stemmer og parallelle historier kan det profesjonelle skjønn og egen subjektivitet styrkes og utvikles. Denne studien undersøker hvordan et kull i lærerutdanningen reflekterer over et kunstverk, og artikkelen drøfter hvordan kunstverk kan åpne for pedagogisk refleksjon og profesjonsetisk bevissthet. Det empiriske materialet er innhentet gjennom kvalitativ metode, bestående av analyse av 45 studentdokumenter, samt et strukturert litteratursøk. Analysen viser at kunstverk inviterer til dialog og profesjonsetisk bevissthet, men at bruk av kunstverk som igangsetter for pedagogisk refleksjon bør introduseres som metode og anvendes flere ganger om studenter skal bli fortrolig med dette. Artikkelen skisserer videre hvordan lærerutdanningen ved å introdusere og anvende denne metoden kan være med på å gi lærerstudenter en grunnleggende handlingskompetanse til selvrefleksjon. Det vil være i tråd med beskrivelser om profesjonsfellesskapet i ny overordnet del i læreplanverket og forventningen om en lærers livslange læring.

O presente artigo investiga duas questões: os afetos presentes nas interações homens e objetos técnicos no âmbito das tecnologias atuais, e o tratamento dado por autores de ficção científica para composições homens máquinas. O primeiro eixo vale-se da obra de Gilbert Simondon e de seu trabalho sobre a evolução dos objetos técnicos, da cultura técnica e da psicossociologia da tecnicidade. O afeto faz uma espécie de mediação entre homem e objeto, bem como constitui o elo de agenciamento entre individuação, técnica e desejo. O segundo eixo trabalha com diferentes possibilidades para relações entre homens e máquinas na literatura de Philip Dick, James Ballard, Bruce Sterling, William Hodgson e Max Barry. Os afetos, nesse caso, indicam diferentes possibilidades para relações entre homens e máquinas e para os hibridismos aí implicados: robôs, cyborgs, andróides e monstros. Os universos maquínicos das tecnociências contemporâneas produzem novas subjetivações, recriando cibertemporalidades e ciberespacialidades. Os afetos mobilizam a imaginação e, portanto, estão na base do ato criativo e da vida psíquica. A autonomia dos afetos, expressão de Brian Massumi, desdobra-se na autonomia das máquinas, na redução das margens da intersubjetividade e no fim do eu. Políticas da imaginação e recriação poética da vida psíquica sinalizam a importância dos afetos na construção de novas possibilidades subjetivas.

Introduction : La tumeur à cellules géantes (TCG) est une lésion osseuse qui se développe préférentiellement au niveau de l’épiphyse des os longs chez des sujets de 20 à 40 ans, mais exceptionnellement au niveau des maxillaires. D’étiologie inconnue, elle fait partie du groupe des tumeurs osseuses bénignes. Ce groupe nosologique comprend le granulome central à cellules géantes (GCCG), le chérubisme, le kyste anévrismal ainsi que les TCG et les tumeurs brunes liées à l’hyperthyroïdie. L’histologie ne permet pas de poser un diagnostic de certitude entre la TCG et le GCCG. Cependant, les TCG présentent un tableau clinique plus agressif et récidivant. Il existe un risque de transformation maligne en sarcome dans 10 à 20% des cas (Barthélemy 2009) et un fort potentiel métastatique (Martin-Duverneuil 2004). Observation : Le cas rapporté est celui d’une patiente de 28 ans qui présentait une tuméfaction intrabuccale douloureuse de 35mm de grand axe, en distal de 47. Le Cone Beam (CBCT) montrait une lésion osseuse radioclaire sous-jacente de 22mm de grand axe, à proximité d’un apex résiduel de 48. Le diagnostic initial était celui d’un kyste résiduel compliqué d’une cellulite. Le traitement a consisté en une énucléation simple. L’examen anatomopathologique suspectait un granulome périphérique à cellules géantes (GPCG) avec atteinte osseuse. La patiente a été perdue de vue 4 mois jusqu’à la récidive de la lésion. Le nouveau CBCT montrait une lésion ostéolytique de 40mm de grand axe, au niveau de l’angle mandibulaire, envahissant la branche montante avec perforation des corticales et atteinte des tissus mous. Une chirurgie interruptrice mandibulaire en marges saines avec reconstruction par attelle en titane préformée a été réalisée. L’examen anatomopathologique de la pièce d’exérèse n’a pas pu conclure entre GCCG et TCG. La patiente a été suivie 2 ans sans récidive. Discussion : Contrairement au GPCG, le GCCG et la TCG se développent d’abord dans l’os spongieux puis de manière excentrique jusqu’aux corticales osseuses qui peuvent être détruites et aux tissus mous qui sont refoulés ou envahis. Le contenu est mou, de couleur brun-rouge, parfois vacuolaire ou hémorragique. L’examen histologique montre un stroma assez homogène, très vasculaire, contenant, à côté de cellules mononuclées, de grandes cellules multinucléées : les cellules géantes. Le nombre de noyaux serait corrélé avec l’agressivité de la tumeur (Ficarra 1987). Moins fréquente que le GCCG, la TCG est plus agressive. Elle récidive dans environ 50% des cas. La recommandation actuelle est de la traiter par exérèse chirurgicale réglée avec des limites histologiques saines. Le curetage est insuffisant pour prévenir le risque de récidive et de transformation maligne (Barthélémy 2009). Dans le cas rapporté, la forme particulièrement agressive de la tumeur chez cette jeune patiente (récidive en 4 mois avec perforation des corticales et envahissement des parties molles) nous a orienté vers le diagnostic de TCG et un traitement radical de sa récidive. Conclusion : La TCG nécessite un diagnostic précoce et une exérèse en marges saines dès la première intervention afin de diminuer le risque de récidive et d’éviter des traitements plus mutilants.

RESUMO A sociedade atual vive em um contexto tumultuoso, sendo comum as pessoas viverem de forma mais estressadas, se alimentando mal e convivendo cada vez menos com as pessoas, perdendo oportunidades de fazer e manter relacionamentos pessoais. Como este estilo de vida está saturado, gerando problemas de saúde aos indivíduos, existem diversos estudos que comprovam a tendência de que as pessoas buscarão um melhor aproveitamento do seu tempo, com um maior contato com a natureza, dando valor ao seu próprio bem-estar, prestando mais atenção no que consome e em como consome, assim como a valorização do prazer de estar em um meio social. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho é contribuir por meio da visão sistêmica e do design, o incentivo e a prática da filosofia Slow Food, e dessa forma, promover a preocupação com uma saudável forma de alimentação e a ação colaborativa entre as pessoas, em que um indivíduo possa cooperar com o outro, resgatando o convívio e socialização. Assim, pretende-se atuar em pequenas unidades urbanas externas, como prédios, condomínios, praças e avenidas com intuito de criação de um artefato que motive a prática dessa filosofia, assim como impulsione também as práticas colaborativas nestes locais, buscando a integração social e desenvolvimento econômico e ambiental, atendendo os princípios da sustentabilidade e o desenvolvimento local. O método de pesquisa usado é descritivo, em que se observou e analisou as situações e relações dos indivíduos, tanto de forma individual quanto as relações em sociedade. Os instrumentos escolhidos para coleta de dados foram o questionário, entrevistas e observações abertas, feitas informalmente ao decorrer das entrevistas. Neste trabalho integrou-se dois métodos de projeto, a ferramenta HCD/IDEO (Human Centered Design - Design Centrado no Ser Humano), usado como base, com técnicas para o entendimento dos desejos e necessidades da comunidade estudada e o Guia de projeto NASDesign/UFSC (Núcleo de Abordagem Sistêmica do Design/Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina), dividido em três fases: Sentir, Agir e Realizar, como complementação. Ao final, conclui-se que o modelo físico do produto proposto atende uma lista de requisitos divididos em três grande grupo: requisitos de produto, referentes à forma, materiais e texturas do objeto; requisitos do usuário, referente a necessidade entendida a partir do tipo de ambiente em que o produto está, e de como ele está sendo usado e aos requisitos do contexto de uso, que consiste nas necessidades do usuário observado durante a pesquisa.Palavras Chaves: design de produto, slow food, sustentabilidade.
